Capresso 465 CoffeeTeam TS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker Save 17% Off

Capresso 465 CoffeeTeam TS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder and Thermal CarafeLet me start by saying that I''ve been a big fan of grind and brew coffee makers. I know full well what to expect. My last grind and brew was a Cuisinart DGB-550 which means I was already accustomed to cleaning 7 different parts every time I made a pot of coffee and having my cats run for cover when the grinding began. The Cusinart had served me well for over a year but I really wanted something with a thermal carafe and I was excited for the prospect of a burr grinder. On weekends it can take me hours to drink a pot and I hated having my coffee cook during that time. Not to mention the wasted electricity while keeping that carafe piping hot for hours.

PROS

====

1) Conical burr grinder. The burr modules spin at lower speeds than standard burr grinders, imparting less heat to the beans.

2) SUPER easy clean up. I don''t think anyone can beat this model when it comes to clean up. Just 4 parts -3 if you use paper filters. The carafe, carafe lid, basket and permanent filter. No filter lid, no dirty grinding chamber, etc.

3) Compared to blade style grind and brews, the noise volume is lower (still loud) and the tone is of a lower frequency. There is no way to make a grind and brew coffee maker quiet, but it would be nice if manufacturers started employing noise insulation or noise cancellation techniques. But overall, I found the noise very tolerable. My cats did not even care, normally they would bolt to the basement when the Cuisinart fired up.

4) Thermal carafe is designed very well. You activate a thumb button to pour and the flow rate is very good, maybe 75% of the flow rate you would get from a standard, glass carafe.

5) Backlit LCD display is large and easily legible both day and night, although like others have said it is very bright.

6) The little charcoal water filter seems to be the same size as the Cuisinart ones. I''m pleasantly surprised that they seem to be interchangeable. Helpful because I''ve seen the Cuisinart ones sold at several locations, but not the Capresso ones.

CONS

====

1) Bean reservoir lid pops off during grinding. Yes, I made sure it was securely in place. It just snaps on, there is way to lock it in place. The machine vibrates during grinding, which eventually works the lid free.

2) Coffee was weak on the 4 cup setting, even bumping the aroma setting all the way to dark didn''t help matters. For a $200+ coffee maker that determines the amount of beans to use itself, this was strange.

3) Thermal carafe, despite being well designed, is small (10 cup). The Cuisinart burr grinder models come with 12 cup thermal carafes.

4) No outside water gauge.

5) Top lid does not snap close easily and feels like it could be the first thing to break.

6) Capresso was stingy on the stainless steel. The sides and top are black plastic. Not a huge deal, but for this price I expected a more high-end look. To compare, the Cuisinart DGC-650 which is less than half the cost has stainless steel on both sides.

7) There are a couple of tablespoons of beans that are "in transit" to the grinder and inaccessible. They are processed when the next pot is brewed. So if you decide to brew a pot of decaf and were previously making regular, a portion of your pot will be made with regular beans. Or in my case, if you sometimes go several days between pots, your coffee is always made with somewhat stale beans. Unfortunately all of burr grind and brew coffee makers that I''ve seen work like this.

Let me start by qualifying my comments, not that they are any more valid than anyone else but, I''m VP of R&D for a high end hobby company. I develop products for a living and I''m very critical of poor designs.

That said, the Capresso 465 arrived at my office earlier today so, I unpacked it and took it for a spin. It would have shipped back the same day if it didn''t pass muster but, I took it home at lunch and it''s on my counter, set up, filled, and programmed to make coffee tomorrow morning.

The guys and I evaluated the machine and the overall design quality, materials, and construction are quite good. We cleaned it up a little and then brewed a pot of coffee. The maker worked flawlessly and the coffee was excellent. We grind beans and use a Bunn at the office so, myself and the guys are more than just coffee drinkers.

OK, to keep things brief, the best feature is the simple and elegant design that makes using and clean up about as simple as it could be. We essentially never referred to the manual except to confirm why it changed to 10 cups from 6 when run in auto mode (there are separate settings for auto vs. immediate brewing and they both default to 10 cups). Other than that, turning it on, setting the current time, programming the auto on time, etc., is just so simple. Also, the settings for the grind level and strength or, "aroma" as they call it, are obvious and intuitive. It took about 12 minutes from start to finish (when the machine shut off) to brew 6 cups of coffee. We used the medium aroma and 2nd to finest grind size for light roast Colombian beans. The coffee came out hot, too hot to drink immediately (which I think is how it should be) and the taste was excellent. It was noticeably better than the Bunn especially after the coffee "cooks" for a half hour or so on the burner. So, it passes with flying colors on making coffee and the quality of same. Clean up is simply rinsing the filter, filter cup, and carafe under water and you''re ready to go again.

Now, for a couple of downsides. The bean hopper lid vibrated up (not off) as others have reported. This is just a press fit and a matter of tolerances. I think it may be better to have a simple twist/lock feature in the future. For me, fixing this minor issue is as simple as a couple of very small unnoticeable pieces of black electrical tape to snug up the fit. No big deal. The other semi-down side for me is that I like to brew different kinds of coffee. Especially on weekends. There is no way to easily empty the bean hopper. You would have to tip the entire machine over, which can be done. So, in order to use a different type of coffee bean, you need to run out of what is in the hopper and then add the new beans. Also, there will be a tablespoon or so of ground coffee "in transit" that will end up in the new pot. The grind channel, as they call it, can be cleaned out by simply removing the cover and brushing the ground coffee into the basket. Again, not a big deal, just a point for those that often switch types of coffee. For example, if you had a decaf drinker in the house along with someone who preferred leaded, this could become a bit of a hassle if the decaf drinker can''t handle a tablespoon of caffeinated coffee in their pot or vise-versa.

In terms of other reviews, and since I based my purchase solely on them (never saw the pot until it arrived today) I think there may be some knit picking out there. For example, someone talked about leaving some coffee/water in the carafe. Well, coffee I get. You may loose a couple tablespoons each pot but, in terms of water, just tip it completely upside down and shake it a little and all the water will come out. Of course, it''s not bone dry at that point but, no more water remains than in any glass carafe I''ve used. And, in terms of the LCD being too bright, unless you''re sleeping in the same room with the maker, no big deal. I kinda like the idea of a night light in the kitchen anyway. In terms of noise, the Melitta Mill & Brew I used for 8+ years is at least twice as loud. The burr type grinder is lower pitch and much more tolerable than the Melitta was. Oh ya, the cats always left the kitchen when the Melitta went off! It was pretty obnoxious but, to me, worth 20 seconds of noise for a fresh ground pot of coffee. By the way, the Melitta was the best coffee maker I''ve ever owned previously. They are no longer made. We''ll see if the Capresso can overtake that title going forward.

I absolutely love this thing already and unless something very unexpected starts to happen, this is a very well designed machine for making excellent fresh ground coffee. If I have reason to update this review, either positively or negatively, I will. Those of you on the fence, I recommend you give the Capresso 465 serious consideration even at the price.

I''ll leave my original review below so those that are interested can read my first impressions. Unfortunately my Capresso died after 1 year of use. The grinder just crapped out rendering the machine a useless carcass. Very unfortunate. I did''t bother trying to have it repaired and have since moved on (and up) to the Miele CVA-4066 plumbed coffee system. Now THAT is a coffee maker!*my prior review here***********

I can''t say enough about this machine. I bought this baby about 3 weeks ago and I could not be happier. Let me start by simply saying this combination grinder/brewer makes the BEST COFFEE I''ve ever tasted out of a home machine. And, after all, isn''t that the most important thing? There are multiple user available tool to change the coarsness of the grind, the amount of grounds that enter the filter, and the "aroma" of the overall process. If you like strong coffee the 10 setting, even with a full pot, is as strong as any cup of Starbucks I''ve ever had. If you like "weaker coffee" you can can simply reduce the amount of beans you use. So, for coffee taste and flexibility/adjustability this machine gets an A+

Probably the next most important thing is the appearance. We looked at the Coffeeteam Therm I really liked the idea of the grinding process being separated from the brewing process. That seemed important to avoid the problem the Cuisinart''s have where the brewing process seems to gum up the grinding area (more on this in a bit). The problem with the Coffeeteam therm is it''s not such a good looking machine. I also thought there was a high likelihood of having to clean up grounds off the counter every morning. Anyway, this machine is very sharp looking. Some folks have complained that it puts out a lot of steam and to be sure there is steam (as with any coffee maker). We don''t have ours under a cabinet so it''s no problem. But even if you are going to put this under cabinet again, I''m not sure it puts out that much more steam than any other coffee maker...maybe a little. So, looks, at least in our kitchen solid A!

Clean up is important. This coffee maker comes with the gold tone filter so if you like you don''t have to use a paper filter. We still do because it speeds cleanup. After each use (or before the next) just open the filter door, dump the paper filter and grounds, lightly wash the gold tone filter and thermal carafe and you''re ready to start a new brew. I think once every other week it''s probably important to wash the filter holder etc. I also wipe down the surfaces after starting each new pot. Bottom line VERY EASY to clean. I give it an A.

Over all build quality. Yes, for $200+ one might expect more stainless steel but this baby is a well built solid, compact machine. I have no issues with the overall build A solid B

Other points:

Grinder Noise: Some have complained about the noise the grinder made. Heck, I was prepared for the worst when I bought it. I used to have a blade grinder that seemed very loud so my expectations were fairly low. Still, I''d live through 30-45 seconds of grinding for a nice cup of joe in the morning. Well, to my surprise this grinder made A LOT LESS NOISE than my blade grinder. In fact I don''t even hear it in the morning. Now, our bedroom is upstairs so it is a bit away from the machine but when I used the blade grinder everyone in the house would be up. This machine you can barely hear it unless your either in the kitchen or in an adjacent room with the radio or TV off.

Coffee In Transit: Some have mentioned there are "beans in transit to the grinder" that hinder ability to go from caffinated to de-caf. The simple answer to this is to grind what''s in transit into an empty filter, put in your de-caf and off you go. Yes, this means holding some already ground beans aside for future use but I''m not sure other machines have any answer to that one.

Coffee Ground in Transit: Yes, there is some coffee already ground that doesn''t make into the filter that rests in the channel between the grinder and the filter basket. This is a nominal amount and will be used for your next potmost likely the next day. I''m not sure this changes the flavor it''s such a small amount.

Gumming Up: This is a problem with the Cuisinart so I was a bit fearful with this machine because the grind process is above and a bit set back from the brewing process. However the automatic seal device that closes off the channel between the brew and grind does a fantastic job. This baby doesn''t have any issues with gumming up AT ALL.

Top of Bean Reservoir popping off: Well, all I can say it, not on mine. Not once. Never seen it.

Internal Water Line View: Yes, there is not externally exposed view for the water reservoir. Uh, I don''t see this as a big deal. When you open the bin there is one inside. Quite functional. No issue there.

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS:

The bean reservoir could be larger. I''ve heard there''s an attachment for that. It holds about 3 days (Full Pots) of coffee.

The water reservoir lid needs to be reviewed a little. It''s functional but a bit hard to open and close. Probably would suggest a different material.

Anyway, LOVE THIS MACHINE. JUST LOVE IT!

I usually buy through Amazon, but ordered from another site because I didn''t want to wait another 3 weeks Amazon Time to get my hands on this coffee maker. I''ve had it for a little over a week now, it replaces a 7 year old Capresso CoffeeTeam, and I love the new design. The most noticeable design change is the narrow profile with direct feed grinding, thankfully doing away with the notoriously cantankerous swing-arm. I''m also glad to upgrade to the thermal carafe this time around, I don''t always get around to drinking my coffee when I intend to, so it''s nice not to have the coffee burning on the warmer. This is the best grind-and-brew system around, but there are still some tweaks Capresso could make to bring this to perfection.

1.) The thermal carafe is designed in a way that makes it impossible to get every last drop of coffee out, you''ll always end out with 2-3 tablespoons of sad wasted coffee in the bottom. (I guess you could use a straw if you were desperate!) This design also makes it hard to clean. Unless you towel dry the inside, you''ll end out with water in the bottom of the carafe, waiting to dilute your next cup.

2.) The brewing process creates a lot of steam! The coffee maker fits nicely under my cabinets, but the bottoms of my cabinets are dripping with water after brewing. I usually put a cotton towel over the steam hatch to save my poor cupboards.

3.) Between the steamy brewing and the lost coffee trapped in the carafe, plan on 1/2 cup of water "disappearing." If I want 12 ounces of coffee to fill my travel mug, I need to pour 16 ounces of water into the reservoir.

4.) The display is too bright! I''ve come into the kitchen a few times at night thinking I''d left a light on...they need to dim that down.

All in all, I''m a happy camper. The grinder sensor on my old Capresso failed after 2 years, so I couldn''t set the timer for magic AM coffee. I love having my magic coffee fairy back again!

I just bought this coffeemaker to replace my grind and brew Cuisinart which was a horrible grind and brew machine. The Capresso makes an outstanding cup of coffee and is very easy to use. The beans remain dry and the burr grinder is superior to other coffee grinders on the market.

This coffee maker has everything you need, thermal carafe, water filter, burr grinder and auto feature which allows you to have the perfect pot of coffee ready at a pre programmed time. I like the size of this machine it takes up less counter space than previous models.

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner Save 17% Off

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Upright Deep Cleaner, 66Q4My carpet is old and due for replacement. While this Bissell carpet cleaner couldn''t remove years of wear, it did remove a surprising volume of dirt. At first, I didn''t think it was really doing all that much. But once I emptied out the tank, my God, what a filthy carpet I was walking on! The used water was a very dark gray bordering on black. Yuck!

There''s a handy little spinning wheel icon on the base of the unit (aka the flow gauge) that tells you if everything''s going according to plan, or if you need to change the water, add cleaning fluid or some other issue. If it''s spinning, you''re in good shape. When it stops, you need to fill or empty the tank(s).

The cleaner has 4 different "custom clean" settings. I mostly used the "normal clean" setting and then switched to "heavy traffic" for the dirtiest regions. The "Dry Aire" feature sends hot air to your carpet to aid in drying. As I write this, my living room is somewhat humid and the floor is damp. I don''t think it will take long to dry though.

A small bottle of Bissell cleaning solution is included. Do yourself a favor and buy a larger bottle before this item arrives. You''ll go through it pretty quickly, so probably best to buy a decent sized refill in advance of delivery. Otherwise, you are flat-out going to run out of cleaning fluid before the job is done.

So what''s not to like? Well, it''s somewhat heavy and bulky. For someone small and weaker, it might be a bit hard to move around. Obviously, it rolls on the carpet fine, so that''s not an issue. But it''s a big unit and you probably need at least a little bit of muscle (but not too much) to use it properly. The tank filled with water might be a bit heavy for some as well. You carry it like a bucket, but toting around a bucket full of water and bending down to insert and remove the tank isn''t a simple thing for someone without a moderate amount of strength.

Assembly was quite easy. You put the top half into the bottom half and secure it with 3 Phillips screws. Nothing too tricky there. The tool rack requires a touch more attention. The illustration was not as clear as I would have liked and it took a bit of head scratching to figure out where a couple of tools sit on the rack. You''ll figure it out, but again the illustration could be clearer.

While the top of the hose rack secures with a screw, the bottom does not. I noticed that one other reviewer said that the bottom of the rack (no screw to secure it) would not stay in place. I initially had the same problem. However, I looked at that bottom rack a bit closer and there''s a tab that needs to snap in place and if you don''t do it just right, it will keep falling off. Play with it and you''ll see what I mean. If that bottom hose rack is popping off, you probably haven''t installed it correctly. It''s not hard, but you need to slide the lower hose rack piece in just right so that it clicks and locks into place. It''s not just gravity that''s holding it in place, but that''s what you''ll think if you don''t do it right.

The only other problems I had was that my knee and/or the cord kept knocking the hose off of the hose rack and onto the floor. I''m no engineer, but I think it could somehow be secured a bit better. Once, I knocked the hose off and then put it back on the rack. However, the head''s trigger was pushed on the stain brush, which I didn''t notice. By the time I discovered that the button was pushed, my leg was very wet and the brush had soaked my wallet and remote control. Fortunately, they are fine, but keep an eye on that so you don''t spray cleaning fluid where you don''t want it. Also, the coiled power cord rests right next to the coiled hose and they interfere with each other. I can''t help but think that they could have designed this a bit better.

I went back and forth as to whether to give this unit 4 or 5 stars. If you solely look at whether it does what you expect it to, it''s a 5 star item. It cleans your carpet well and gets out a lot of visible dirt. There are a few minor issues, but overall this is a nice carpet cleaner and it cleans very well. However, I knocked that hose off so many times either with my knee or the cord that I have to give it 4 stars.

I think that this Bissell will go a long way towards keeping your carpets looking nice and potentially extending the life of your flooring. I recommend it, despite a few minor issues.

I purchased my 2x pro heat about 1 month ago. Prior to this I used a low end Bissell which I thought was good, but with one pass on this new cleaner I was impressed.

I want everyone to know that I recommend this cleaner, it far surpasses my lower end Bissell and the high end Hoover I borrowed from the neighbor.

Reading some of these other reviews I understand the problems with some of the negative reviews.

One person writes that the cleaner left all the water on the floor. There is a red filter/flapper on the dirty water resivour. If you get too much foam in the container there is a flap that closes the intake so that the foam does not get sucked in the cleaner. Go dump the dirty water. Then check that red flapper and make sure it is not stuck to the intake. If it is just tap the container and it will flip back down. If it is sticking then you may be using too much cleaner.

When you finish up make sure you fill the soap container with water and run rinse water over the last part of your carpet. You are asking for trouble if you do not do this. Regardless of what Bissell says, get the soap out of the lines before storing the cleaner.

If the carpet is so dirty that the water is sucking up black. Between cleanings make sure all the moving mechanisms do not have stuff caught up in them. Your asking for a belt to break otherwise.

Do not be a fool and use some home brewed serum for carpet cleaner. Use Bissell carpet cleaner products. This cleaner has a heater on-board so the home brew stuff might cook and create chaos! Never use oxyclean or comporable products, they are desintegrators of plastic. You can use Bissells oxy proucts and I recommend them. This is how I lost my old cleaner. When I was speaking with the salesperson I heard a gasp when I told them of my cleaning serum.

Some people are just not mechanically inclined so they do not think about these simple things. I hope my review allows people to understand some of the bad reviews. There is nothing wrong with this cleaner...and if I ever need to contact their customer service and I get lousy service they will not hear the end of it.

I am a director of customer service for another company.

I had previously owned a Bissell ProHeat back in 2002 and felt that there was a lot of money invested in a cleaner that didn''t really show a lot of promise. When I moved across the country, I didn''t feel much of a loss when the moving company accidentally "misplaced" the ProHeat. When I saw the newer 66Q4, I wanted to test it out in order to see if Bissell had made any marked improvements over their previous lines, and alas, there''s not a whole lot of change.

For around $300, you''re paying for a couple of things. First off, you''re paying so that you can clean your carpet on your own time; no need to schedule a professional steam cleaning company to do it for you. You''re also paying for the clean that comes with "washing" the carpet instead of just vacuuming up the dust and dirt that''s accumulated between the fibers. Most professional steam cleaning companies charge around $100-200 for their services (obviously depending on the size of the house/apartment), so there is a lot to be said for just purchasing your own machine and cleaning when you need to. Unfortunately there has yet to be a single-unit device made that can match the power of the multi-thousand dollar units that the pro''s use. The ProHeat is no exception to that rule. So the question comes down to: Will the ProHeat work well enough that your calls to the professionals is lessened? The answer is: Yes, however you will still call them on occasion when you want your carpets "really" clean.

If you are new to carpet cleaners, there are some generic things you should know that apply to all carpet cleaners:

They are heavy and cumbersome, even without the liquid

They are messy, both to use and to clean up

They will probably end up smelling (think vacuum funk)

They take a long time to use (3-4x''s as long as a normal vacuum, not including dry time)

The cleaners are expensive and get used up quickly, and arguably, unneeded

The unit itself worked as well as expected. The dual brushes do a good job of agitating the carpet fibers so that a significant portion of the dirt embedded gets dislodged. After cleaning the area was visually "brighter" than non-cleaned areas. However, unlike professional cleaners which have a huge suction pull behind their steaming process, the ProHeat does not do a good job of reaching into the carpet pad underneath. Therefore the ProHeat will do a good job of cleaning the surface stain, however it will not remove all traces of things like pet urine (after a good cleaning with the ProHeat, the black light will still glow). Using the spot cleaner along with a little bit of enzyme-based pet urine remover formula will help. Also, it should be noted that the brushes themselves are quite stiff, so if you are seeing a lot of carpet fiber ending up in the cleaning liquid, you may want to reconsider using a agitation-based cleaner (hypothetically you should already be seeing the same behavior with your vacuum).

All-in-all, the ProHeat isn''t a bad unit, however if you''re considering "upgrading" from a previous model, there''s not much new here; nor has the core functionality been improved. If you''ve never owned a carpet cleaner and just need something to do a good carpet shampooing twice a year, this is a good buy (I would consider this a bit too bulky for a day-to-day spot cleaner) and the unit itself works great as long as you understand that it is not on par with a professional steam cleaning service.

We got this carpet cleaner because we have an autistic child and she can get a little bit messy. I wish we had done more research before buying because now I realize just how bad the design of this cleaner is. Instead of having two separate tanks for the clean and dirty water the Bissell has a bladder system in which the clean water is poured inside the bladder and the dirty water is stored in the tank around the bladder.

If germs bother you then your not going to pleased with the disposal process of this unit. It''s a pretty disgusting process of pouring out the nasty smelly water that sits around the bladder that the clean water goes in. The bladder design also makes it difficult to clean the tank out when finished. We used the hand tool a lot and it worked pretty well but now the water isn''t spraying out and I have to turn the unit off for a few minutes to get it working again.

Finally I just recently noticed that the bristles on the floor cleaner are no longer spinning. We paid over $200 for our machine and for that much money I would have thought it would hold up better than it has. After reading many of these reviews I think I will be looking at another brand in the future.

This cleaner replaced a Hoover Steam Vac (my 3rd) that had lost suction. First impressions:

It was easy to put together. I didn''t need the instructions, but I did need a long Phillips screwdriver. My short-bit rechargeable was too short for some of the 4 screws.

There was good, secure storage for the various attachments, plus a bag for holding them. I don''t know what I am supposed to put in the bag, but I suppose it is useful for those that don''t want to push around the machine with all of the attachments. Although I never use them, I like to have them on the machine. The bag has an easily removable Bissell tag and once removed it is a nice, but not terribly high quality, mesh bag that will work well for the beach.

I like that there is a heater to increase the water temperature as hot water is supposed to help in cleaning the average carpet, but I also like that it can be shut off for fragile items. The heater will increase your water temperature by 25F degrees, with a max temperature of 190F.

I was surprised that there is a separate container for the cleaning solution. You add the water to one area, soap to another, then set the mix to the dirt level you are dealing with. I like that you don''t waste mixed solution or need to keep going over an area until you have used up what you have mixed. This machine came with a 16 oz. bottle of Bissell Multi Allergen cleaner (no pet cleaner, but I did get the lovely mesh beach bag!) The directions specify 5 oz. per gallon of hot water, which is the same as my bottle of Resolve cleaner.

I liked the separate shot of cleaning fluid that comes out the side on request. Great for hitting the spots of unknown origin.

There is also a setting for rinse, which does not add the soap from the separate section. Obviously this would not work if you pre-mixed the soap and water, but it is a feature I really like as I don''t like soap residue on my carpets.

The tanks for clean and dirty water are one unit. They don''t seem to hold as much as my old Hoover, but I also don''t have to worry about the dirty water slopping around when emptying it. I noticed the clean water tank had a few suds in it when I was done, so I think there is a little cross-contamination. The water tank is actually a bladder and it was impossible to empty completely when I was done cleaning.

This did not come with a hard floor attachment, but says one is available from Bissell. My Hoover one never picked up much of the water, so I doubt if I will bother with this Bissell (my Hoover attachment does not fit).

It is easier to move around than the Hoover, partially because it is a little smaller in size and part because there is a habdle on the front that can be used when you want to lift the machine over something (like a rug you don''t want to clean).

I appreciated the little spinninbg wheel that told me when I ran out of water or soap. It also clued me in when I put the water unit on incorrectly and so had no suction.

As far as cleaning, which is the big thing, it works about as well as my Hoover did before it started to lose suction. They may not be quite as good as a professional cleaning, but with multiple pets and lots of dirty feet, I don''t go without having a carpet cleaner on hand. I think this is a great home machine and I recommend it.

DeLonghi EC702 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker Save 50% Off

DeLonghi EC702 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker, StainlessAfter purchasing and returning a cheap Mr. Coffee steam espresso machine that produced nothing close to a real espresso, I decided to get serious about finding a solid "entry-level" espresso machine. I did an exhaustive (ie: ridiculous) amount of research, reading reviews at a myriad of sites, comparing prices, talking to friends who consider themselves "espresso experts", etc. What I found first is that you will never find 100% agreement on a given machine. Second, you have to establish your price range. It does seem that with espresso machines, the more you''re willing to pay, the more you get, either in features, design, longevity or performance. For me, despite my friend raving about his newest $700 "it does everything except read the paper to you" machine, as a first time home machine buyer, I wanted to limit my first expenditure. So I set a max budget at $250 and learned about every possible option.

I won''t go through the reasons I didn''t buy other machines and it is possible that many I chose not to buy would have been perfectly good. What I will tell you is that thus far, about 3 months and 100+ espressos later, I am extremely happy with my DeLonghi EC702. The bottom line is that it produces a perfect crema with a rich taste. The steaming wand, though not perfectly designed, works well and I can make excellent Lattes. I feel it is important to add that like any machine, it takes some practice to produce the perfect espresso. There are so many human variables that come into play how long to let the pump run, proper warm-up time, type of coffee, the grind, how much you compact/tamp the coffee, etc. that no two people will get the same results. However, the performance of this machine has been flawless. I have not experienced any leaks or problems. I have followed the instructions carefully from the first use, kept it properly cleaned and it has rewarded me with a great cup every day.

Some other positives:

Very good clearance between the bottom of the filter holder and the base. I have a nice size cappuccino mug (in addition to standard espresso cups) and it fits perfectly. Apparently this is a problem with some other machines.

Two size filters one for single shot and one for double shot espressos.

Filters also use the ESE pod system if you''re into that. I don''t use pods.

Large, easily removable and cleanable water holder.

It looks great. All silver, mostly metal. Doesn''t have any of that cheap looking black plastic.

Warming tray on top really works. I store my cups and filters on top and they are nice and warm after about 15 minutes, which is the recommended warm-up time. And BTW this is not a problem. I get up, walk in the kitchen, turn it on. By the time I come back into the kitchen after getting the kids going, it is ready. Those people who complain because they have to wait a few minutes need to re-evaluate their addiction to coffee.

Great price point. Under $200.

Some notes:

Yes, it is somewhat noisy for the 15 seconds it produces the coffee but it is a pump machine, which you must have. My kids running around in the morning make far more noise than the machine.

Your first 5-6 cups will taste like battery acid. I was warned of this from an experienced friend. All new machines must be broken in to eliminate that metallic taste. So when you get it, after following the directions and running water through it a few times, then make several throw-away cups of coffee as well. I used a less expensive coffee for this instead of wasting my good stuff. Allowing the coffee flavor to permeate the filters will properly prep the machine.

You must clean it at proper intervals. The machine even comes with a bottle of descaler.

Buy an external tamper. It will make it much easier on you, help you be consistent in your tamping and will keep the machine cleaner. I bought the $8 Terry''s Tamper on Amazon and it is the perfect size for the DeLonghi filter. Don''t waste your money on expensive tampers.

Make sure you use the proper very fine grinds meant for espresso machines. I took one bag of beans to a grinder at Trader Joe''s and set it to the finest grind, which I thought was great. However, I later bought a can of Illy pre-ground for espresso (a fabulous coffee by-the-way) and learned that my public grinding was nowhere near as fine. So my espressos improved even further using a better grind.

So there it is. I actually purchased mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond as a 20% off coupon brought the price down to equal the generally better Amazon prices, but also allowed me an easy, walk-in no questions asked return policy if I wasn''t happy.

I hope this helps people. I felt I owed a review as thanks to all those whose reviews I leaned on. My final thought is that once you get hooked on making your own espressos, even with a good machine like the DeLonghi, you do start to see the value in the really expensive machines that are fully automatic and even grind the beans like my friends $700 gizmo. But for the regular guy who doesn''t mind a little manual labor and doesn''t have $700 to drop, I highly recommend this machine.

I have been making espresso at home for 30 years and have gone through 3 machines prior to purchasing the DeLonghi. The first was purchased in Rome in 1978 when home-brewed espresso in the US was a rarity. That machine lasted 10 years before the pump blew out and looking back it just made ''acceptable'' coffee. I next purchased a Krups (from Amazon) and ran that one to death in 10 more years. It was a fine machine but not surprisingly, it did wear out. A good value for the price and I got a lot of service from it. Then I got a Braun which was totally serviceable for yet another 10 years....do these things all last 10 years? I guess so. When it was time to purchase another espresso maker, I chose the DeLonghi EC702. What a nice surprise! It heats up really quickly, and despite the owner''s manual that says let it warm up for 15 minutes before you brew the first cup, I find you can get a perfect cup after only about 3 minutes of warm-up. Then, hit the ''milk steamer'' button and in just one more minute it''s hot enough to do the milk for a great cappuccino. The steamer nozzle is the first I''ve seen that can be EASILY dismantled (two small pieces to pull off) and rinsed. Former models had to be scrubbed with a scouring pad occasionally to scape off the residue left on the nozzle. This DeLonghi setup is far better and the steamer nozzle is always clean and ready for your next cappuccino. The drip tray (plastic with a metal grid) pulls off for easy cleaning too. Being a coffee-hound, I use the double-filter basket to make a single cup, although the photo shows two demitasse cups being filled side-by-side. Really, I''d recommend this machine without reservation. It''s good-looking, easily cleanable, warms up super fast, quickly steams the milk to a lovely froth, and filling the water reservoir is a snap because it pulls out like a small drawer so you can squirt more water in from the sink''s dish sprayer without needing to remove the entire reservoir from the machine (at least that''s how I do it). A full reservoir makes about 4 good-sized cappuccinos with frothed milk before needing refilling. All in all, a GREAT machine at a GREAT price. Buy it!

Basically all of the negative reviews they did not read the instructions well enough. This thing kicks ass for a 15 bar espresso/cappuccino machine for under (...). Perfect crema, nice steam, cleans easily. Sexy stainless. Of course it doesn''t have auto on-off... IT IS AN ESPRESSO MACHINE! The timing is different every time as the water pumps through, and how will it know if you are making a short, a double or if you want to turn it off early? If you are too lazy to push a single button to start and stop the pump, get a "Mr. Coffee" and quit whining that your appliance doesn''t tie your shoes for you... The steam nozzle only leaks if you don''t close it. If you don''t put the lever back to the closed position all the way, yes, then water sprays out. When it is not in steam mode and the valve is open it sprays water, thats what it is supposed to do (for tea, etc.). It is not that complicated a machine, but common sense is uncommon to most people. It heats up fast, makes a delicious cup of cappuccino or espresso and cleans up easily. The warming rack on the top is designed well also. It makes me happy to turn this thing on in the morning. It prefers finely ground espresso, not espresso ground for drip machines or stovetops. If you are a "pod" person, you should be ashamed and really don''t need this machine. This machine is for brewing a real cup with fresh grounds.

If you can work simple machinery and like espresso/cappuccino from freshly ground beans, get this machine and enjoy.

If you are a bit lazy and prefer everything to be automatic and are the type to use "pods", do not get this machine.

Pros: Brews excellent espresso with abundant crema, dual thermostats for brewing and steaming, two different sizes of filter holders, one of them allows you to use E.S.E. pods, good frothing, cup warmer, attractive look all at a good price.

Cons: Removable water tank not ease to reach in a tight counter space, I would have liked to see more flexibility in the frothing wand, the design leaves too little space both sideways and below to maneuver with the pitcher, cheap plastic, fragile looking bottom tray that contrast with an otherwise stainless steel solid body.

Although there are much better pump driven machines out there you may find out that the much higher price doesn''t have much impact in the quality of the espresso and sometimes even in the quality or functionality of the machine. For a budget minded person, this is a good choice in its class.

Now a few words about the different espresso makers to help you make a choice. I have owned all three types.

The traditional stove top maker, pros: is cheap, last a lifetime with little care, keeps the coffee warmer longer, cons: it is messy, slower in comparison with steam driven machines and requires attention while brewing, doesn''t make crema by itself and of course you need a separate frothing device for cappuccinos, size of the brew rigid you will need different sized machines to brew for just yourself or 3-4 people or you''d be wasting coffee. Still the most popular household machine in espresso loving countries and localities like Italy, Cuba and Miami.

Steam driven machines, pros: fast, inexpensive, durable, can be left unattended while brewing, integrated frothing wand, more flexibility in the size of the brew, cons: Espresso quality while similar to that of the stove top cannot match that of a pump driven machine, no crema, coffee gets cold fast.

Pump driven machines, pros: great tasting coffee with crema, integrated frothing wand and other convenient features, cons: always more expensive, lots of parts and electronics makes them pron to fail or wear much faster than the two other types, brewing requires full attention and some technique, the machine needs priming too so this are not machines for people on the run.

Finally, the quality of the espresso is in a good part a function of the quality of the coffee you use regardless of the machine, pump driven machines definitively give you a better tasting coffee all other things equal but requires you to learn some techniques and won''t compensate for bad coffee.

However, I must say that taste varies. Some people here scoff at this or the other brand of coffee and recommend particularly expensive brands as a show of their taste and sophistication. Follow you own instincts and taste, experiment with different brands and techniques (grinds, degrees of roast, tamp strength) until you find the most satisfactory to you. Many will find out that good coffee doesn''t necessarily have to be made and packed in Italy. I personally use inexpensive 30 cents an ounce or less Latin brands which suit my taste well for everyday use. When it fancies me I buy something more expensive for a gourmet experience. Bottom line, you don''t have to break the bank to enjoy a good espresso just like you don''t have to go every day to a gourmet restaurant to have a good meal.

Update April 14, 2012

I have owned this machine for more than two years of daily use and still running fine with all its original accessories. I have performed descaling with the recommended product twice. I notice a significant improvement in performance after each one even though I used filter water and in my area the water is not hard. In areas with harder water you may want to follow strictly the manufacturer recommended descaling schedule or do it more frequently. I also recommend to clean well the area outside and around the boiler removing the gasket as natural coffee grease accumulates and that may influence coffee taste as well as the boiler iteself. Same for the coffee holders.

I purchased this item 2 months ago and have been using it daily ever since. Previous posters were correct on the steamer wand (it IS a bit restrictive, I suggest purchasing one of the smaller frothing pitchers rather than a big one). Also, it *DOES* put out a lot of water through the steaming/frothing wand when you first turn it on, but you can get around that (more on that later).

It DOES produce a FABULOUS Espresso shot, Cappucino, Latte''s, it tastes MUCH better than Starbucks to me and it only took me two attempts to get my technique down to where it''s NOT a problem.

1. Loading coffee. I use half and half Lavazza in the can with the mark on it that has the Espresso picture and half any local bean ground to a #3 setting in the store my preference is for Blue Jamaican. Put the local ground half in FIRST, then put the Lavazza in on top of that.

2. Tamping. This is NOT a "press as hard as you can" thing. I use the double size grind basket, and a full scoop looks just SLIGHTLY rounded ABOVE the top edge BEFORE I tamp it, using a light "tapping" force like I''d knock on a door lightly. Tamp it LEVEL with the top of the basket, then use your finger to wipe around the EDGE of the basket top to get rid of the grinds that are on the edges where it will seal. Keeping the seal clear of grinds will prevent leaking.

3. Turning on the machine for warmup: I put it on STEAM first. This is important. Don''t open the steam knob yet, just let it warm up and give you the green light in the STEAM setting. Put a towel under the steamer wand. Once the light is green, open the steam valve and watch the water come out of the wand for 5-10 seconds until it''s all STEAM. This will purge the tube of water AND give you a nice warm steam rag to clean the wand AFTER you''re done. When it''s STEAM coming out, turn the valve back off and switch the machine to Espresso and wait for the light to go green again.

4. Brew Espresso as directed. It will LOOK like it''s foamy coming out. Once it SETTLES in the cups for a few seconds, you will see it is mostly espresso with a nice layer of Crema on top (assuming you have the glass tumblers that are available on Amazon pretty cheaply worth it!) Don''t worry that you have to manually turn it on and off, this takes about 30 seconds, just sit there and watch it, not a big deal.

5. Switch back to steam mode, wait for green light again. Put milk pitcher under frothing wand, froth your milk, then make your Lattte / Cappucino as desired. Hint: If you like a hot Latte like I do with a creamier taste, I microwave the milk first for a minute. This gets the milk up to temperature to where, by the time it''s frothed LIGHTLY, with a minimum of water/steam added into the milk, it''s hot.

All of the above takes me about 5-7 minutes.

All in all, I''m HIGHLY satisfied with this machine and would DEFINITELY recommend it. Heck, I bought one for my dad for Father''s Day. :)

Cuisinart EM-100 1000-Watt 15-Bar Espresso Maker Save 55% Off

Cuisinart EM-100 1000-Watt 15-Bar Espresso Maker, Stainless SteelI purchased this machine at a Kohl''s for roughly $220. I think it''s of an exceptional quality for the price.

Positives: #1 Well built (it''s actually quite heavy)

#2 easy to use, filters allow for a single or double shot to be made also comes with a pod filter but I''ve never used it

#3 large water reservoir that has allowed me to make 4 or 5 espressos and steam milk too

#4 comes with a DVD that teaches you how to use it (much easier than reading the booklet) this is especially helpeful if you''re new at making your own drinks

#5 easy to clean

#6 has a warming plate on top (good if you need to make more than one double shot cups or two single shot cups

#7 espresso has a good taste (although I think this has as much to do with the quality of the coffee you''re using) The machine actually does produce a good amount of crema for the price you pay

#8 Stainless steel frothing picture is just the right size for one latte or two cappucinos

#9 15 bar pump allows for more than enough pressure and for great taste.

#10 has a feature that allows you to get plain old hot water too if someone isn''t interested in the espresso and wants tea/cocoa/whatever

Negatives: #1 the steam nozzle is too long you kind of have to tilt the pitcher to get the nozzle out this isn''t a problem so long as you know so you can use less milk or you can place the machine so the nozzle can be used on a non-countered space. The nozzle has a good range of movement so this does help counteract.

#2 the distance between the portafilter (where the coffee comes out) and the drip tray is not very tall I''ve found that I have to use a smaller cup to brew and then dump it into a larger cup if I''m going to make a latte and want to fit in a decent amount of frothed milk.

#3 you have to be really careful to not overtamp your grounds or you''ll end out with coffee everywhere this machine is a little pickier than I expected (and pickier than the really cheap machine this replaced). But, with that said, the taste is 100x better. You can catch it if you overtamp too so long as you closely monitor and make sure the water is coming out of the portafilter at a decent rate. If you overtamp, barely anything drips out. After a while you figure out how much is too much.

#4 my biggest complaint, and this one is quite dangerous There''s not a great way of knowing that pressure has been released this means that once your espresso is made and you''re ready to clean out the coffee grounds you have to be really really careful or it''ll explode the hot coffee grinds all over you and your kitchen. I''ve been seriously burned a couple of times. It might not be a problem if you''re used to espresso machines (I wasn''t when I first bought this one) or you learn to be super extra careful always.

We had a Krups combo coffee pot/espresso machine and after several espresso calamities in a row, I gave up and got this Cuisinart. So far it has been great! It seems that there used to be only basic espresso makers or extremely expensive ones on the market, with nothing in between. But the Cuisinart satisfies the coffee connoisseur on a budget by making truly wonderful espresso and more.

One of my frustrations with our last model was the "perfect froth" tip, which was disastrous to say the least. I just need a basic steam wand and I can take it from there, and the Cuisinart fits the bill it steamed and frothed my milk easily and quickly. Just be careful to use less milk than you might think, because the volume doubles in no time. I''ll probably switch to a larger pitcher than the one that comes with the Cuisinart, though it''s fine to start out.

A couple tips to get started: the instructions say the heating light should come on right away, but it didn''t for me until I switched the small knob to the droplet icon (as opposed to the middle neutral position). I figured this out by watching the video, which I recommend as the instruction manual is pretty bare. It''s also good to see how much pressure one should use to tamp the grounds.

The only negative thing I can say is that the warming tray doesn''t seem to get very warm, but I do like being able to store my cups on top anyway (more space in the cabinets now, plus a certain café aesthetic is always nice), so I don''t mind. Positives are that it''s fast, it''s quiet, everything is sturdy and well designed (and clicks or locks solidly in place so you know things are seated correctly), and the espresso is truly café quality an enormous difference from the more basic espresso machines on the market.

UPDATE: Since this review I have had some experiences with clogging. Cuisinart customer service was totally unhelpful, but here''s what I do to remedy the situation:

1. As soon as you notice espresso isn''t coming out, turn off the machine, take off the basket (you may have to wait for the pressure to subside), rinse it out well, and fill the machine with water.

2. Scrub the underside of the metal grid that the filter basket attaches to with a damp cloth.

3. Reattach just the basket with no filter. Heat water and run that through to get any clogs in the upper part of the machine. I fill up a milk pitcher. Then turn the big black dial to neutral, add the empty filter to the basket, and repeat. As long as water starts running through that ok it should be all right. I hope it works for you!

I like my coffee. In fact, I freely admit to being a coffee addict. And before I say anything else, let me say that this machine makes great coffee. With the right beans and a bit of practice, you can beat the taste of any coffee shop with this.

That said, I am glad, I still have my french press, because sometimes this machine decides to be difficult. It usually starts if you tamp your coffee too hard. The coffee maker is then unable to pass water through and ceases up completely. Make sure you watch what you are doing, so you can stop it from trying if necessary. Now, the real problem with this is, that you will have a very hard time removing the basket, as long as there is still pressure inside. It takes somewhere between 5-10 minutes at least, before the pressure has gone down enough, that you can pry the basket off (watch for exploding coffeegrounds, if you didn''t wait long enough).

To make matters worse, the machine seems to have a hard time recovering after an incident such as this. It seems to get even pickier, with what it will accept, and it will be easier to resort to the backup plan, and let the espresso machine recover.

I would rate the EM-100 a 5/5, if it weren''t for this problem. I hardly apply any strength, when I tamp my coffee, and I still run into trouble from time to time. In fact, the first one I had got so picky, that I took it back to the store and exchanged it.

To minimize my risk, I take great care to clean every bit of the coffee maker after each use. If you can live with this issue, the coffee that comes out of this machine really is to die for.

Use it at least twice daily with both ESE pods and ground espresso. It really is a nice machine. If you are like some other reviewers and have problems with coffee grounds blowing out over the kitchen after you are done then you are likely tamping them too hard or using a grind that''s too fine. Easiest way for a first time user is to buy some coffee in ESE (easy serve espresso) pods from the internet and feel it to see how hard the coffee is tamped in the pod. Cut it open and see how finely it is ground. Go to the grocery store and grind a pound of your favorite roast to about the same grind. At my grocery store the second or the third finest setting works fine. You can use your own grinder but a good burr type grinder costs some money and the less expensive blade grinders are useless for espresso. Tamp it to about the same hardness as the pod was. It makes wonderful espresso with lots of crema on top. I''ve never had an issue with grounds or steam blowing out after I release the pot--even with the machine on and waiting just until the coffee stops dripping to detatch it. I don''t see how you could go wrong, but some obviously do.

This one looks nice. It works well. Has a self-priming pump (a good feature that alot don''t include). It comes with a tamper, a stainless-steel frothing cup, filter holders for pods, single, and double shots. It also includes 2 tolls to clean the little holes the espresso is pumped through. It comes with pretty much everything you would end up buying for it in the first year. I have a water softener so scale will never be a problem but you would want to descale it once in a while if you don''t use distilled water. The only thing I wish it had was a dial thermometer so I could watch the water temp more closely. I believe that it has an aluminum boiler. I would prefer brass but you just can''t get it at this price. The pump makes some noise but not more than any other I''ve used. Steam espresso machines are cheaper, much quieter but burn the coffee and it doesn''t taste nearly as good.

Overall, very good product, easy to use and the best value by far at this price.

To start with, the machine leaked water out of the bottom from the beginning.

A couple of months before the 1-yr warranty was up, the plastic (!) piece holding he steaming wand broke and sent the wand shooting under pressure. Cuisinart agreed to replace the machine, but I had to pay return shipping AND new shipping. I believe they sent me a refurbished machine, as immediately the wand would barely release steam and no water stream through the wand at all. The front knob would get so hot under all of the pent-up pressure, that it was too hot to touch! A couple of times the wand came shooting off. I called back, but Cuisinart told me now the warranty was up, even though they just sent me a faulty machine! Told me they might make an exception, but again I would have to pay shipping both ways! What?!?

No more Cuisinart for me.

Austin Air Pet Machine Air Purifier

Austin Air Pet Machine Air Purifier - Black - A16242 03I purchased this machine about six months ago. I have four small pomeranians who are house dogs and are inside while I am at work. I put down pee-pads for them while I am away at work, so you can imagine, I really wanted an air purifier to keep any odors out of the air. I am very happy with this unit''s performance.

It is heavy but can be wheeled from room to room on its casters.

It is not the quietest machine however, for those of you who sleep with fans on or white-noise machines, you can throw those out as this until will replace them and put you to sleep in their place. It does put out a LOT of air volume on high again if you sleep with a fan on for air flow and want this in your bedroom, you can dispense with it and save on your electric bill by not running both machines.

I have not had to replace the filter yet which carries a hefty cost but I consider it an investment in health and quality-of-life so to me it is worth the cost.

It took about two days to really kick in but now when I come into the room, there is definitely a sweet smell in the air. Not sweet as in perfumery but sweet as in fresh-air smell.

I definitely will buy another one of these units when I can afford to, for the living room.

DeLonghi Nescafe Dolce Gusto Genio Coffeemaker Save 34% Off

DeLonghi Nescafe Dolce Gusto Genio CoffeemakerMe & my wife researched a coffee maker for our new house for months I''m talking 6 months; and that''s before we even bought the house. We both love capps & lattes so were looking for a single serve coffee maker. We looked at all of them Keurig, Tassimo, Senseo, Dolce Gusto. We were looking for variety, quality of brew & product, durability, & price.

Obviously Keurig gives you the most variety as they are the #1 Single Serve company in the US; they also do have a Fill-Your-Own-Coffee pod which is nice. Price was OK too, but the quality of the product & durability were issues. We''ve read mass amounts of reviews with horror stories of pods exploding, water leaks not something we wanted to get into. Plus with the Keurigs you need to get the expensive ones to get the best out of it & you''re still dealing with break downs regardless. Also, people complained about the temp of the coffee.

Tassimo''s coffee quality seemed OK. Price was good too we liked that you could buy the pods at BB&B easily. But once again we heard stories of pods exploding, but not to the extent of the Keurigs. But we were still very interested in Tassimo.

Senseo was never really in the game considering the quality is substandard & variety is small.

Which brought us to the Dolce Gusto line from Nescafe''. The variety is average in all honesty with only Nescafe'' producing the pods, but the price points of the machines were good actually the cheaper one I think was $89 & it has good reviews but we were looking at the expensive ones to see about quality & if it were worth it. Quality of the brew was something we heard good things of, especially on the higher models due to the pressure systems.

After it was all said & done we decided on this one, The Genio. We have been loving this thing! The quality of the standard blend is OK, strong but OK. The others are awesome! Capps have been great, Mochachinos have been wonderful, the latte was outstanding! My wife tried a Chai Tea Latte the other day & has been in love with it. The machine is a little loud, but in the other room its barely noticeable. We have been very pleased with the coffee maker & pods. Buy them in bulk on Amazon saves money & join their rewards program! 10 points per box 100 points = free box. You buy the bulk boxes from Amazon you get $30 purchase you can''t go wrong!

I got one of these for Christmas, and I wasn''t sure about it. I''m not a fan of buying capsules, but I figured what the heck. So I gave it a try, and I absolutely love this thing. It''s cool, it''s really small and doesn''t take up much counter space. It fires up in no time, and it makes a top notch cup of espresso. I really like the lungo pods (long shot of espresso 4 oz.) These come out a bit weaker than an espresso, but a good bit stronger than a regular coffee, and I''ve been drinking way too many of them lately.

The Americano (regular) coffee from this is decent, although the pod selection is less than a Keurig, but this is really an espresso machine. Also the pod based cappucinos are surprisingly good. Forget the cost of the pods, I''ll have saved enough Starbucks cash to pay for this in no time. Unless you plan on dropping a grand on a real espresso machine, this is the guy you want.

Also, it leaves a really nice crema. Very impressed, and couldn''t recommend this more.

It''s a good little machine when it works.Coffee is good and strong;enough flavors to keep everyone happy, and a terrific system for making cappuccino. However,we are on our 2d machine, had to return the 1st and call Nescafe customer service to get the replacement working. It seems that when these sit around for a while in a warehouse ,something in the unit dries up,doesn''t pump water at all out of the carton and needs to be primed.Maybe fresher inventory would have solved the problem? It comes with a 2 year manufacturers warranty, and Nescafe customer service seemed very competent (enjoyed the USA based representatives)They got us up and running, so we''ll keep on using it.

*4 month update-The coffee started coming out lukewarm after a month or two ,we needed to heat it in microwave to be drinkable.Called customer service(Nescafe)and they recommended descaling. went through the descaling process(tedious) and no change in temperature .still lukewarm. called customer service again, they offered to exchange the machine,2 weeks later, new machine came and was dried up,would not prime,no water, burning smell. I think when the next machine comes,we will liquidate the pods we own and just phase out of the Nescafe Dolce Gusto program. The company tries hard, but quality control is poor.

So I ordered this coffee maker. Not only did it meet all the criteria, it makes good coffee, takes up very little space, and is a bargain price. The only thing I wish for is an automatic shut off timer. Other than that, perfect!

The title claims "switch espresso coffee maker." It''s basically just your regular coffee maker. There''s only one switch on the machine (on and off).

Pros:

-Small and compact (fits right under the cupboard)

-Comes with the permanent filter

-Really fast

-Easy to clean

Cons:

-No automatic shut off

I bought this one last year, two panels and it works great for North Dakota. However, one of the ends is leaking now so I have to find a good epoxy or something to repair it. I also had to "rig it" for the Intex Pump. I would recommend a solid panel.
