Handpresso Intense Portafilter Save 17% Off

Handpresso Intense PortafilterThis *should* come with the Handpresso kit. I don''t like that they make you but this expensive add-on to actually obtain good coffee from your portable machine. But, it is the same good quality as the original, and really makes a stronger cup of espresso. A bit expensive, but E.S.E. pods are even more expensive, so it''ss better to get as much flavor as possible from every cup. Highly recommended product, but Handpresso should include this portafilter instead of the one they give you with the machine.

I already own the handpresso traveling kit and it probably is one of the best gadgets I have ever owned

When we are traveling it is so nice to have access to good coffee so when I saw this item and read what it did I naturally had to have it its kind of like a update for the handpresso unit

I cant wait to try it out there are going to be some jealous people around when they smell the fresh espresso (LOL)

  • Economically priced drop-in cartridge provides quick and easy filter change
  • Enhanced dirt holding capacity for extended cartridge life
  • Endurawrap design traps sediment to prevent plugging of carbon block media
  • Manufactured entirely from FDA-compliant materials

I cut one of these open and sure enough.....it''s just a big block of carbon. I wish it had an interior lining to trap the carbon particles, but no big deal. I use it downstream of a 1 micron ceramic filter, and I get around 0.9 GPM flow.

The item arrived broken. The Base of the unit is made of thin plastic. The Compressor broke off and was rattling around inside when it arrived. Not going to chance having another one shipped.

Wellness Carafe (2.3 Litres)

Wellness CarafeThe Wellness Carafe creates great tasting water. But now that I need a new filter, there are none to be found. I don''t know what the problem is but I fear I may have to buy a different brand to make sure I can replace filters.

Have Well Water and wasn''t sure if this would work. Bought this to see if i could notice an improvement in my green smoothies and wheatgrass plants. the wheatgrass is growing like crazy. Love this product.

Despite the fact that the lid broke as soon as I took this out of the box warning: be very careful with the lid I love this pitcher. We have really horrid water and this pitcher takes all of the bad taste out of the water. I can''t see it taking all the dangerous metals and particles and chemicals out of the water but I trust that it does that too. I''m sure that the taste of the water should be the least of my concerns but frankly I love a really neutral glass of water. Water is what I drink all day allergic to milk, won''t drink sugar pop or chemical pop, coffee makes me hyper. So to have a great pitcher of water in the fridge all the time is fantastic. I glued the cover it broke again. I called for a replacement they didn''t have one and although I wish it weren''t broken ..I still stand by my 5 star rating. I can only say the water is worth the badly designed and broken lid. But I wish they''d replace the lid.

it really does work, I keep regularity, eat less, feel a difference in concentration/ ''brain fog'' (Hashimoto), settles my nerves at work. When i drink the alternative "neutral" water, I feel sick. May be a scam for others, but I am sold!

This is a great filter pitcher. I love it..the water tastes cleaner, softer, just better water. I use already purified water that I like but am not just confident enough to use directly. So I clean it thru here and then use that definitely cleaner and fresher water for drinking and cooking. Love it.

Whink Coffee Maker Cleaner, 3 Count, 10 Ounce Save 84% Off

Whink Coffee Maker Cleaner, 3 Count, 10 OunceWe have issues with hard water and our coffee maker constantly slowing down. Up until now I have always used vinegar but it hasn''t worked all l that great. The 3 pack of this coffee maker cleaner went on sale at a great price so I decided to get some. I have only used this once so far but I do think it helped speed up the brewing process. My only complaint is that it requires a few rinses by brewing plain water. The whole process can take hours because you don''t want to overwhelm the machine with constant repeated brewing, but you have to because this product is toxic to people. I will continue to use this monthly as recommended an update this review as needed.

We''ve tried both vinegar and CLR to clean our coffee maker with limited success. After trying Whink we were thoroughly impressed with how well it worked. It immediately removed calcium build-ups where CLR did not.

AirTamer® Ultra High Efficiency Air Purifier Save 14% Off

AirTamer® Ultra High Efficiency Air Purifier w/Ultra High Performance Pleated FilterThis machine is well designed. Easy to use. I would say maybe a bit louder than some of the others on the market; however if you look closely some of the others don''t cover pets. Yes, pets. I noticed that a lot of them would filter cat dander. Also, I wanted something that would address specifically mold. This does the trick. I can tell the house is cleaner and have had guest comment that the house doesn''t smell like musty dog anymore (though I didn''t know it did).

As I said, it''s well designed with many things in mind. I''m rather keen on the fact that the lights on the device has 16 different light settings. I turned off the lights since I''m very light sensitive.

There is also the option to use other filters and not be tied into buying their filers only. Great savings in filers and energy.

What I was looking for: consumer report friendly, somewhat portable/sleek design, dog dander, mold, and energy. (dont'' forget the energy cost it can be way more than the filter cost)

Great buy! Considering buying another one for the bedroom.

You don''t want to use ionizer or ozone producing machine. Please read EPA official statements based on scientific studies. Ozone can cause shortness of breath or may have long term effect on your lungs.

Yes, this machine is using 16 x 20 x 2 pleated filter with a high rated MERV 16 that is good for a year. MERV 11 is being considered the best while MERV 8 is the standard for both residential and commercial, so MERV 16 is superior as ultra allergen. In addition, it included another layer of antibacterial black filter(there were 3 included in the package) against virus and molds, in case you need it on top of the ultra allergen white filter.

My furnace is currently using 3M 16 x 20 x 1 filter with 1000 MPR equivalent to MERV11. So this one is an extra purifier to consider the people coming in and out the door.

The original MERV 16 filter is expensive at $80 to buy a replacement after a year. But the advantage of this machine is I can use an alternative filter (furnace filter) of the same size. I have found 16 x 20 x 2 pleated filter at Amazon with MERV 11 by Midwest for $54 with 6 filters in the pack.

The lowest speed at 1 is quite. The design is very simple which is practically just about to enclose the size of the filter. The electrical plug is 100-240 volts so it can be used in any country but the advantage is the low wattage of electricity.

The system came with a european plug! I called the customer service line and the rep. was very polite said he would get a correct tail out to me ASAP. Some mistake on the factory/shipping end. Had it set up quick and running. ONE hour later after leaving it in a closed room the scent of the room was gone and the air just felt cleaner. My son said after a week that he no longer woke up with stuffy sinuses and thanked me for getting it!! (he is 5!) I have one in my room and now I''m considering one for the livingroom too! Do the research, I did and this is a winner!! I did add the carbon antimicrobial filter that is used on the A710 to the included filter for the A600. Worth the added cost!! You can see the evidence on the filter that it is working!

Watts 500113 4-Stage 50GPD Manifold Reverse Osmosis Residential System Save 29% Off

Watts 500113 4-Stage 50GPD Manifold Reverse Osmosis Residential System
  • Reduces Chlorine taste and odor, Arsenic, Lead, Perchlorate, Cysts, Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Entamoeba and more
  • Nitrate Reduction
  • 4 Stages of Filtration
  • NSF Certified
  • High production 50GPD membrane

What can I say, I love this Reverse Osmosis Water treatment system, I admit after reading some bad reviews of this product, I was very skeptical of this brand, customers seemed to complain about water leaks, have had no problems with the system it makes great tasting water and there is no maintenance or upkeep whatsoever, like I had with my last reverse osmosis brand system that this one replaced, and the water was not as good tasting water as this system makes, even though my last system was very old and was a two stage whereas this one is four stage, more cleaning and filtering with this system than my other system, my father in law has the same brand of reverse osmosis and is very happy with it, his is much older of course, but still very happy with it, The Watts premiere however does do alot of running due to refilling the tank and cleaning the system all at once, but does not last very long, only until the tank is filled with clean fresh water, I am very happy and delighted with this purchase.

So far I have been unable to use the unit because it leaks. Out of the box the unit was mostly assembled, that was good. The instructions could have been less confusing but I got it fully assembled. Time to turn water on to the unit, after taking a will to fill I started finding leaks. Thinking surely it was something I had done, I called an expert to straiten out what I had done. He found two of the quick connects, that were part of the main body to be defective. He said that I had two choices, either return the unit or drill out the connection and tap the hole to recieve a differant type of connection.................... I purchased the WP5-50 and went through three months of hell before throwing it in the trash! First, the hissing noise had to be solved by Watts sending me a bypass for the system. Thirty days later, the system quit. I paid someone to test my water pressure. I had Watts to send me a replacement shut off valve. Finally, I paid $18 to have it shipped back to Watts to be repaired and was told that I needed to replace all of the filters and the membraine because something in my water or the water pressure had clogged up the filters (it had only been in use 60 days). I am now waiting for the system to be mailed back to me so that I can put it in the trash. I will never buy a Watts product again in my life. $235 down the drain! (no pun intended)

The filters in this system are great, 2 carbon stages, one sediment stage and the reverse osmosis membrane are all you need for a water-filter system at home. The housing is sturdy, the hoses are standard HDPE and the fittings should work just fine. The pressure range at which the system works is yet to be determined however. Water keeps leaking from the housing sealed joints (not the hose fittings) consistently, at any operating pressure.

The manual I received was for a different system, though I was able to download the actual instructions for mine off the web.

I installed the system and observed leaks from both the faucet outlet and the tank hose. I cut the hoses again in case they were not flat-ended and tightened everything in the system. Same outcome. I then disassembled the entire system and cleaned every filter and housing, then used water soluble lubricant for the large o-rings and inspected every small gasket in the inlets/outlets. Still leaking form the same places.

I called the technical support and waited for 40 minutes listening to the repetitive "your call is important to us..." then decided it is much faster to return the filter back. Amazon even scheduled a pickup for the package!

I recommend you not to buy this system and consider other similarly-capable but different brand water filter setup for your home.

Kudos to Amazon, and a big, fat boo for Watts -I''ve heard their filters are great when they actually work. Definitely disappointing.

I''ve been using this unit for about 3 months and there is no way it will produce 50 gallons per day, 1 gallon per hour at best !!! Water tastes great. Hooked up the ice maker to it, had to adjust the ice cube size because it''s low pressure now. Now I have mostly clear ice cubes.

I told the attorney general'' office and they said "this is clearly false advertising and they should remedy the situation, tell them to. If we get a few more complaints, we''ll start a class action law suit!"

Well Watts, what are you going to do about it ?

It seems to me like you owe me another unit !

Mr. Coffee Fresh Iced Tea Maker Save 8% Off

Mr. Coffee TM70 3-Quart Iced Tea Maker, 3-Quart, BlueI''ve read the other reviews and I had to write my own since I have had nothing but a positive experience with this tea maker. First of all, I don''t know why some others have experienced leaking from the front since it hasn''t leaked a drip for me. All you have to do is push the pitcher in all the way and it''s a perfect fit. Also, all of my water is being emptied from the reservoir and I''ve never had a problem with it. I actually own both, the TM3-2 and this TM70. I bought the TM3-2 first for one location and I later bought this one conveniently at Wal-Mart for $18 for home. I like the plastic used for the TM70 better since it doesn''t seem as cheap, it doesn''t stain as much and it''s dishwasher safe. I also like how the TM70 only has one opening for the tea to leave and go into the pot. There''s a possibility that one of the other reviewers had the opening plugged up to cause an overflow, a finely ground tea might cause that. That may also cause the brewer to automatically stop and not brew all of the water from the reservoir, but I don''t know. The TM3-2 has an opening at the top just in case water is overflowing, but this causes the water to go straight into the pitcher without brewing the tea. There are other points I like better about the TM70 design, but I can go on about why I like the TM70 better. I guess it''s different strokes for different folks. Maybe I just got lucky to buy one without any flows or it''s user error.

I had an earlier Mr. Coffee Ice Tea Maker before this one and it was awesome. I loved it. The only problem was that it just got old from lots of use and the pitcher and tea bag holder started breaking. So I bought a new one for Christmas this year. This model. And it is absolutely horrible. The problem appears to be that as the tea is coming down out of the top of the unit and trying to drop into the pitcher, the unit starts acting up and the hot tea starts getting distributed onto the sides of the unit around the end of the pitcher, instead of falling directly into the end of the pitcher, and it leaks all over the counter. Horrible, horrible design. I do not understand how Mr. Coffee hasn''t been sued over this piece of crap model yet from having it burn someone. I''m returning mine and I''ll think twice about buying another Mr. Coffee model again.

I love sweet tea and was really excited to get this. I was pretty disappointed. I could have put up with the fact that it was leaky and spilled easily and was pretty hard to clean, if only it made good tea. The tea didn''t taste good was way too bitter and when I followed the instructions for making sweet tea that came with it I only ended up with mildly sweet very bitter tea with a mess of undissolved sugar inside. I''d rather boil a pot of water on the stove than mess with this tea maker.

Wow interesting to see I''m not the only one experiencing problems with this thing! It made great tea the first few times I used it. In fact I was amazed that I could use the contents of of only 3 tea bags for making 2 quarts and still come out with delicious tea. After the first few uses however the infamous leaking problem started where I''d find about 1/2 cup of tea in a puddle on my counter when the brewing was finished. At first I thought it was just when I made 3 quarts worth of tea but then it started hapening with 1 & 2 Quarts as well. It doesn''t happen every time but it''s at the point where I''m afraid to leave the machine unattended for fear of returning to a big mess. I suspect the seeping basket is the culpret here. It fills up fast, is VERY slow to empty and is too small to be effective at preventing overflow.

Jiffy Steamer Liquid Cleaner (3 Pack) Save 9% Off

Jiffy Steamer Liquid CleanerI have the Jiffy Travel Steamer, the Esteam machine. I had quite a bit of buildup on the bottom of the steamer. I tried vinegar/water over night. It loosened up some of it, but not much at all. I then bought some of this stuff. I checked after one hour and shook the steamer around with the solution inside to see if any of the calcium has come loose, but nothing. I then looked again after 2 hours. I finally started to see the calcium floating in the solution. They recommend emptying it after 2 hours, but I let it sit over night. If I emptied it after 2 hours, I would still have a lot of calcium buildup on the bottom. So leaving it sit overnight is a good idea. I uploaded before and after pictures of the steamer so you can see my results. I would have given it 5 stars, but it didn''t get rid of it all, but about 90% of it which is fine with me. I think I will use distilled water in the future so as not to get this calcium buildup any more, at least when I use it at home. Buying a gallon of distilled water every now and then will be quite a bit cheaper than buying this solution every few months. Besides, I mostly use it at home anyway and When I do travel, I will just use tap water and try and dry it best I can afterwards. So if you have the buildup, I can honestly say that it does work!

My mom has the old J-200 steamer, which gradually accumulated some buildup to the point that NOTHING was coming out of the hose. The hose was getting warm, but no steam.

I scoured the internet and tried the cheapest method I saw which was to use a mix of vinegar and water. I let that sit in the steamer for at least a week, with absolutely no results.

While trying to find an authorized service dealer, I ran across one in North Hollywood who walked me through some steps that I could try, and also suggested using this branded liquid cleaner which he mentioned would probably work a lot better than vinegar since it contained acid. I put in only about 1/4th of the bottle and let it sit overnight. The next morning, after rocking the liquid inside the unit back and forth, I noticed the clear liquid had turned into a deep brown hue, with a few chunks of sediment. Flushed it out with water, re-attached the hose, and plugged it in. A few seconds later, the familiar throaty gurgle roared into life and out came a puff of thick white steam.

This stuff works, people. Well, it did for me, and now I don''t have to look like I crawled out of the dryer with my wrinkly shirts. :)

This cleaner works great to get the deposits off of the element in the steamer.

I waited a little too long the last time between treatments and the element was completely white with a pretty thick covering of deposits. I tried leaving the solution in two hours and that barely did anything. I left it over night the second time and in the morning the deposits flaked right off.

You can very lightly prod the element with a long object after it has been soaking awhile. If the deposits are stuck fast then let it sit a few more hours until it only takes a gentle prod for the white deposits to come off. You can then empty and a few good rinses should suffice to remove the residue of deposits. Note: You should not try and scrape the element clean. If you have to do this then it has not soaked long enough.

Instructions are easy to follow. I recommend it.

ZeroWater ZT-2 Electronic Water Tester Save 50% Off

ZeroWater ZT-2 Electronic Water TesterI purchased this device to check the performance of a water filter I purchased here on Amazon. To my dismay, I learned the water filter was virtually useless. The filtered water was almost the same as the water straight out of the tap. I checked the water from my new Samsung refrigerator and its internal filter was much better than the big under sink filter I purchased. The Samsung refrigerator filter reading was about half of the incoming water reading. Also, I use this to measure bottled water that I buy at Wal-Mart to find the brands with the lowest reading. And I bought a bottle of distilled water and the reading was the same as in air exactly what it should have been. There is no way for me to determine the absolute accuracy of the readings, but it serves my purpose quite well. It is small enough to take with me when I travel to test the local water quality. Of course, some mineral content in water is perfectly fine, but since I cannot determine which minerals are safe is, I just go for the lowest mineral content reading I can find.

When I first received this item it did not work. After writing my first review I was contacted to resolve my problem. I was sent new batteries and the product works fine.

Please ignore my first review.

One of the reviewers is confused. This tester tells you nothing about safety or purity of the water. It measures TDS (Total Dissolved solids), the amount of minerals etc that are dissolved in the water. It tells you nothing about purity. I use one for testing the efficacy of my reverse osmosis filtration system. When the water coming out of the RO filter does not have at least 95% fewer TDS than the water going in it is time to change the RO filter membrane.

Read Best Reviews of ZeroWater ZT-2 Electronic Water Tester Here

I''d heard about this water tester from my parents. We have an Everpure ROM system that we''ve suspected wasn''t up to snuff in terms of filtering the water coming out of our drinking water faucet in the kitchen. My parents had gotten a system installed and I guess were pointed at this tester to test the water after the installation.

I got the tester and tried it out against a number of samples. I checked the regular tap water (we''re in Los Angeles so the water quality is okay but not in any way perfect) and it seems our filters are barely better than the tap. Fun. Tap was at around 180 on the meter (ppm). The "filtered" faucet was 160. At least it was doing something.

I did some additional checks against bottled water testing against Arrowhead (bulk mineral), Dasani (purified) and a bottle of Voss (not-so-bulk mineral) my wife picked up at a restaurant. As you''d expect, Dasani was at zero (it''s just purified tap essentially). Arrowhead was at round 60 and Voss was at 40-ish as I recall.

I guess it''s time to buy some new filters!

The device itself is easy to use (just uncap, press the on/off button, and dip the tip in the water sample). You''ll get an instant reading. Just remove, dry off (or flick-dry) and press the on/off button again.

The only real downside to this tester is that it really just does one thing: tests dissolved solids. So, if all you care about is how well your water filter is working? You''re set here. Otherwise, if you need pH or water temp, you''ll have to look elsewhere.

Want ZeroWater ZT-2 Electronic Water Tester Discount?

I had always suspected that our tap water was not that healthy--it tastes hideous. This little gadget pretty much confirmed my suspicions.

For each of the following waters I did three tests. According to the back of the instructions, "000" is the "cleanest water".

Faucet Tap Water = 257, 254, 254

Evian Water = 182, 184, 187

Fiji Water = 91, 90, 93

Nestle PureLife = 51, 50, 50

As you can see the readings were very consistent, even if you bounced around from one water to another.

As far as taste (I tasted all the waters after each measurement), the higher the ppm (parts per million) the "thicker" the water seemed. Which of course makes sense because there are more "things" in it.

But if one wants to argue that the closer the water is to 0ppm, the better it tastes, I''d have to disagree. For example, my favorite water is Evian (with Fiji a close second). So I think another important factor is "What is making up those particles?" in your "Parts Per Million" reading.

So with all that being said, I would advise against using this product solely to determine "quality" of water, but it could tell you if a filter is working or not (which is how I intend to use it once my water filter arrives).

I have had this system for 5 months now and love it. Water taste great, installation wasn''t to bad. I mounted mine in the basement to save space for under sink. The one problem I had recently was the small valve that mounts to your cold water supply started to leak. After removing it and putting new Teflon tape on it I noticed that it just didn''t fit tight enough in other fitting that it threads into. So after taking apart again, the threads broke off the valve. I called customer service and explained what happened and since it has a one year warranty, the operated said the new parts would be shipped out immediately with no charge.

Liquid Silver Plating System, Silverware Kit Save 15% Off

Liquid Silver Plating System, Silverware Kit, Medallion BrandI used Liquid Silver to repair an antique silverplated coffee urn and it really works. I suggest you first wash the item in warm, soapy water (not silver polish) and dry it thoroughly. Then apply the liquid and rub it in. Use the soft cloth provided to polish it dry. You may have to do two or three applications if the plating is really worn away, down to the base metal.

This works on very good quality silverplate meaning plating over copper, brass or nickel. Don''t think if you have a lesser quality base metal, that ANY hand applied plating system, such as this, would work it just won''t. (In that case, you need the professional acid applied system. If the silver plate is chipped or broken, most probably that item has the acid dipped method of plating, and means the base metal is not copper, brass or nickel.)

If you have the right base metal, this will work and can save you the cost of this product many times over. It is meant for silverplate that is thin or worn... not deeply scratched, chipped or broken. I read some of the negative reviews, and they were all cases where the damage was so severe that only the professional system of plating would work. Of course, this is a very reasonably priced system, so it''s worth trying even on the most damaged item but it simply isn''t meant for that.

So.... I would say if you have worn flatware, trays, or other silverplated objects that have no actual physical damage such as gouges, chips or breaks in the silverplate this is the perfect item for you! My coffee urn looks great and I am rummaging around my house looking for other pieces to restore.

This is also an excellent silver polish, and will KEEP your items looking great, as it lays down a thin coat of silver with each polish application. I really like this stuff a lot!

I bought this product to polish/replate some tableware. It cleans very well, and does replate and to the naked eye, it "repairs" lightly worn pieces, or where the wear is only contained to say a ridge or raised area. On well-worn pieces though, like the bowl of a spoon or flat part of a handle, it helps but remains noticeable, even with repeated applications.

I used this on a very old but beautifully-detailed plated spoon, which was worn beyond use but had been in the family "forever". The plating system did a nice job of replating the silver. The spoon doesn''t look new, but it''s now lovely and usable. The system might work even better on items that are not so very worn.

OK, I ordered this stuff, thinking I was basically throwing away money. I read some of the negative reviews but decided to take a chance, as I had a favorite bracelet that had sentimental value. I have held onto that bracelet for years, even though it had worn down to a coppery color on most of the sections.

I got the product and put a little on the grey "sponge" and rubbed it onto the edge of the clasp. Just waited to see what happened. Nothing. Then I rubbed it for about 15 seconds....and wow! it began to turn silver! Then it kept turning even when i did not rub. I almost cried!

I could NOT believe it. It was so easy and even though this bracelet has lots of indentions, curves, etc, the product got into the nooks and crannies and still made it silver again.

I worked on it for about 15 minutes and then rinsed the black gook off. Polished with the soft cloth. It looks brand new. Seriously.

You may not have the same results, but hey, I had a great result and now I have my favorite bracelet back. I''m a happy girl!

Saeco S-TG-ST Talea Giro Super Automatic Espresso Machine Save 29% Off

Saeco S-TG-ST Talea Giro Super Automatic Espresso MachineI have purchased this coffee maker because I tasted the coffee it makes at a friends party. It was awesome. My friend had his machine for a few weeks and was very excited about it. This is a good looking machine, easy to fall in love with. I immediately went to purchase one. That''s when my problems started. and by the way, so did my friend''s. If you don''t want to read any further, the summary is DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS MACHINE!!!

Pros: When it works, it makes wonderful coffee

Cons: you need about 10 minutes to read this and let it sink

1. Usability after a few weeks of use it stopped working. The first problem with this machine is its usability specifically, feedback to problems. It has a very capricious operation and the feedback it provides whenever a problem occurs is illegible. It is capricious because, it complains when (a) the water tank is half empty. When it complains you cannot make a decision to override it in other words, when the red light goes on because your water tank is half empty, you cannot continue making coffee until you fill it up again. It takes 2-3 lattes to empty half the water tank in other words, if you have several people for coffee, you can keep yourself busy filling the water tank, forget about polite conversations; (b) after 2-3 lattes you are also forced to dispose off of the used coffee, as it doesn''t let you make your own decision, even though the disposal container takes a third of the volume of the machine and has plenty capacity to store 30 times more.

2. Reliability I have this coffee maker for less than three months. It has been in repair 2 times, for a total of over a month. The first time I had to send it for repair after only three weeks of use, when the red light stayed on, no matter what I did. Customer service determined that the machine was faulty and asked me to send it for repair. It came back after 14 days with a note that they found nothing wrong with it! Miraculously it now worked, yet, while the red light problem went away, there was another, new problem. Now when I made espresso, the steam hose was dripping concurrently and profusely, emptying the water tank even faster then it already did under normal conditions. Called customer service again. They diagnosed it as a potential problem with an O-ring and asked me to send the machine for repair again, this time to their center in Ohio. I sent the machine for the second repair on November 14th, and I still don''t have it back as of this writing (Dec 9, 2009) you do the math!!! AND YES, THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE O-RINGS IN THE MACHINE, SO PLEASE TAKE A PITY ON YOUR MACHINE AND TRY NOT TO USE YOURS EXCESSIVELY, MAYBE A CUP A WEEK OR SO...

3. Customer Service this is the worst customer service money can buy. It is not that the reps are not nice they are very nice and courteous. However, they are completely ineffective, dis-empowered to make any decisions (everything goes to a supervisor, her manager, and so on). When you''re on the phone with the customer service rep, (which they have one of, judging by the wait time of 30 minutes on the average, and the fact that you get the same one every time) it may take 3-4 "waiting in between" times for him to go ask the supervisor how to answer my question or what to do with my request. And it goes on and on. By the way don''t call during lunch as you will get a voice prompt politely asking you to call back as the company is out to lunch literally! And yes, if you thought you can get a status of repair on your coffee machine you paid so much for, forget about it. They have no ability to tell you anything except that "its on the workbench" or its not on the workbench... If they promise to call you back to let you know what''s going on, because now it has been three weeks and you have called them multiple times, sent them multiple mail messages, etc., don''t hold your breath they won''t get back to you, guaranteed. And guess what, having gone through all this, they won''t send your machine overnight. If you have an issue with this, here is the reply you will get (I got this earlier today):

"I''m sorry that you feel that way. You should have been told that our turnaround right now is roughly 2 weeks. As I stated before, we are the main warranty center for THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES. THIS IS THE HOLIDAY SEASON. WE ASK OUR CUSTOMER TO BE PATIENT WITH US DURING THIS EXTREMELY BUSY SEASON. We ship standard ground. Anything other than standard ground must be paid for by the customer." It reminds me of the movie "My Cousin Vinny", when the whole store got the flu... The "roughly 2 weeks" she quotes has been 4 weeks now, so "roughly" goes a long way with Saeco. It also shows you how busy they are with repair the more they sell, the more they are swamped with faulty coffee machines.

Will update you when I get the machine back. Obviously I would have returned it to Amazon within the first 30 days, had I known what is in store for me. Now I have to keep it. But I am clearly done with Saeco no more buying their stuff. BTW if anyone knows if I have a different option, would love to learn about it.

Update 1/14/2010

And so it goes on and on. The long story from above ended up with Saeco replacing my first machine with a new one. Got back from my vacation few days ago and found a new machine awaiting to be finally enjoyed. My wife and I were very excited. Opened it up, read the documentation and watched the video and started setting it up. I won''t burden you with details three days later the new machine doesn''t work. Discovered that a selection knob (steam/hot water) is damaged. Sent Saeco support a couple of messages with the images of the broken part. No reply. Called Customer Service several times, waiting 20-40 minutes and ending up being disconnected. So here we are. I guess it''s lawyer''s time now.

We got this coffee maker for my husband, who likes to drink a lot of coffee and expend practically no effort to prepare it / clean up afterwards. He already knew drip machines were not for him clean up after every use... So he had switched to a French press and got to like the bold flavor but that ended up being too much work still. After that he was only drinking "Turkish coffee" (i.e. dump the grounds in a cup and pour water over them) that was about the right amount of effort but just didn''t taste that great. Especially compared to his favorite "Americanos" at the neighborhood coffee shop.

SOO, when I saw this machine I knew we had to get it. We found it almost 50% off at an unnamed dept. store so I have absolutely no reason to justify an expensive purchase by writing a positive review :).

I would not say it''s cheaply made at all. The parts where it matters most use high-quality materials. I don''t care if my water tank is plastic it seems to be crack resistant all right.

The maintenance could not be easier it cleans itself by running a bit of water through the system before every use (so the coffee never tastes stale) and all you have to do is empty out the grounds drawer and rinse the "brew group" about every week. Very easy.

My husband can make his americanos just by a touch of a button the dispensing of extra water could not be easier. The switch to steam, just as easy. He loves the coffee and so did our guests all major coffee fans.

And here''s my favorite part. I didn''t even drink coffee before we got this thing but now I will actually make a super light latte now and then. What won me over? The high-pressured, super-effective milk frothing system and the option to reduce the amount and strength of the coffee you brew. I can''t think of a better investment and I''m glad I listened to my coffee-fanatic sister about going for the proven Saeco brand.

Have been using this machine for a week now, and, most importantly, it makes outstanding coffee. I am not a coffee expert, but as a (now former) Starbucks regular, I can testify that I''d prefer coffee from this machine over Starbucks brew any day.

Other things on the good side:

easy to install and simple to operate

very fast, a great cup of coffee is always just a minute away

On the downside:

Although the design is ok, the execution is a bit on the cheap side (for what I''d expect at this price tag) with plastic body and controls not having a feel of precision mechanism

alarm indicators (too add water, add coffee, empty waste tank) are a bit cryptic and it takes an effort to figure out what this machine wants from you, maybe I''ll get better at it with time.

The Talea Giro shows a lot of functional improvements over my 1997 Saeco machine. It makes better coffee, yet I don''t believe it will be nearly as reliable and it is positively loaded with clumsy, annoying misfeatures. I''m somewhat disappointed. It is a machine to be endured rather than enjoyed.

I''ve been fussing with it for a few days and now have it making very good coffee. There is a lot of crema, which will easily float a teaspoon of sugar for five seconds. The coffee is much hotter than it was from the old machine. I make a couple two-shot cups in the morning and espresso at night, and both kinds of coffee are as good as restaurant espresso but not as good as the best hand-pulled shots.

As I said, there are several controls to twiddle. There are some that weren''t present on my old machine, and you have to tweak them for some time before decent coffee starts coming out. You control the grind fineness, the water volume, the dose (amount of ground coffee per shot) and the back pressure on the filter. Once you get these lined up to your satisfaction, the shots come out at a reasonable pace regardless of the amount of water that''s going to go through the ''puck'' of compressed coffee grounds. Once set, these controls seem to stay set.

The machine is much busier than my old one. When you start it up, it rumbles and growls for a few seconds, then there is a cheesy flashing Christmas-light display no doubt meant to assure you there is something going on. After that, it spits a couple ounces of hot water into the drip tray and hums a bit more to itself. All this activity is conducted at a low sound volume, at least. When you push the "brew" button there are all kinds of whirrings and gurgles. The grinder is fairly quiet.

The machine''s design is functionally OK it makes good coffee but it has enough usability problems to reduce an industrial engineer like me to helpless laughter. The exterior is not well made. It reminds me of a Fisher-Price doll house with lots of flaps and buttons to push, all somewhat misshapen and all made of plastic that''s a little too thin to be worthy of a machine this expensive.

The machine is pretty much cylindrical and it rotates on its feet so you can easily spill your coffee when you turn it to one side or the other as you must, to accord with its cryptic signals, or when you try to push the power button without making a weird Vulcan death-grip pinch on it. The water tank is hidden behind a cheap-looking panel. It should be visible so you do not have to rely on the machine turning on its ! light (its way of saying "something is wrong") to know when to do something, perhaps refill it. On top is the bean hopper. The bean hopper is supposed to hold the beans and allow them to slide into the grinder that''s located at its low point. My old machine had a round bean hopper with a conical bottom leading to the grinder a straightforward, silo-like device. The Talea Giro has a wide, shallow bean hopper with a nearly flat bottom so the beans stay perched in clumps instead of sliding into the grinder. You end up herding beans toward the grinder all the time and just so you don''t get carried away and try this while the grinder is operating, the cover is now interlocked. However, you can see the beans that aren''t going into the grinder. The hopper cover is clear. On my old machine the cover was opaque and that is the way it should be since coffee is degraded by light.

There''s another interlock on the water tank door and yet another on the "dregs drawer" where the pre-heat water and the used coffee pucks are ejected. The machine tells you to dump the "dregs drawer" every fourteen shots, no matter whether you''ve just done it or not, and it won''t proceed until you comply.

The half-bakery continues with a feature that was good in concept but was executed with malice aforethought. The drip tray moves up and down. This is wonderful if you have a tall morning coffee cup but short espresso cups. However, the entire mechanism is made of blow-molded cheap. It wobbles to help you spill your coffee when you turn the machine. The water-containing bit of the drip tray pulls off so you can dump it and when you do, you find that it''s so light and flimsy that you wonder how it manages to hold a cup up without catastrophic failure. This is going to get broken, perhaps when it''s bumped by a wandering kitten, and you need it because all the coffee you have spilled while turning the machine this way and that ends up in it.

I''m extremely unimpressed by the "BMW Designworks USA" effort at building coffee makers. These designers changed a machine that could have a straightforward way of operating into an expensive treasure hunt game, re-inventing things to make them needlessly complex, less useful and more annoying in the process, very much like recent BMW cars. I''m giving the machine three stars because the coffee quality is so good, but Saeco: give the industrial design job back to your old group. They built things that work and last, like my old Saeco machine.
