This works on very good quality silverplate meaning plating over copper, brass or nickel. Don''t think if you have a lesser quality base metal, that ANY hand applied plating system, such as this, would work it just won''t. (In that case, you need the professional acid applied system. If the silver plate is chipped or broken, most probably that item has the acid dipped method of plating, and means the base metal is not copper, brass or nickel.)
If you have the right base metal, this will work and can save you the cost of this product many times over. It is meant for silverplate that is thin or worn... not deeply scratched, chipped or broken. I read some of the negative reviews, and they were all cases where the damage was so severe that only the professional system of plating would work. Of course, this is a very reasonably priced system, so it''s worth trying even on the most damaged item but it simply isn''t meant for that.
So.... I would say if you have worn flatware, trays, or other silverplated objects that have no actual physical damage such as gouges, chips or breaks in the silverplate this is the perfect item for you! My coffee urn looks great and I am rummaging around my house looking for other pieces to restore.
This is also an excellent silver polish, and will KEEP your items looking great, as it lays down a thin coat of silver with each polish application. I really like this stuff a lot!I bought this product to polish/replate some tableware. It cleans very well, and does replate and to the naked eye, it "repairs" lightly worn pieces, or where the wear is only contained to say a ridge or raised area. On well-worn pieces though, like the bowl of a spoon or flat part of a handle, it helps but remains noticeable, even with repeated applications.

I used this on a very old but beautifully-detailed plated spoon, which was worn beyond use but had been in the family "forever". The plating system did a nice job of replating the silver. The spoon doesn''t look new, but it''s now lovely and usable. The system might work even better on items that are not so very worn.Read Best Reviews of Liquid Silver Plating System, Silverware Kit Here
OK, I ordered this stuff, thinking I was basically throwing away money. I read some of the negative reviews but decided to take a chance, as I had a favorite bracelet that had sentimental value. I have held onto that bracelet for years, even though it had worn down to a coppery color on most of the sections.I got the product and put a little on the grey "sponge" and rubbed it onto the edge of the clasp. Just waited to see what happened. Nothing. Then I rubbed it for about 15 seconds....and wow! it began to turn silver! Then it kept turning even when i did not rub. I almost cried!
I could NOT believe it. It was so easy and even though this bracelet has lots of indentions, curves, etc, the product got into the nooks and crannies and still made it silver again.
I worked on it for about 15 minutes and then rinsed the black gook off. Polished with the soft cloth. It looks brand new. Seriously.
You may not have the same results, but hey, I had a great result and now I have my favorite bracelet back. I''m a happy girl!My son ordered this to use on his tarnished silver-plated saxophone. I wasn''t expecting too much but he was very excitied. To my surprise he said it was wonderful! The sax looks new again! Be sure to use exactly as instructed. The results should please you!
