KRUPS FLF2J4 Cordless Electric Kettle Save 22% Off

KRUPS FLF2J4 Cordless Electric Kettle, BlackThe kettle''s appearance is nice. It has high power and boils fast. Due to design of the lid the water is tightly covered so there is less evaporation.

Here are the problems.

1) The stainless floor becomes spotted and uneven really fast (faster than with my previous Braun kettle).

2) On my first unit power switch was malfunctioning. It took me 2-3-4 attempts before I could start it. I replaced the kettle with a new one and had the very same problems.

The bottom line.

If you decide to buy, don''t do it online. Buy at some place where you can easily replace the kettle if the first (second, third etc.) one is defective.

I decided to return this kettle and buy Braun for the same price.

Update 08/08/2008

After half a year I decided to give it another try and bought a new black Krups Kettle from Bad Bath And Beyond again. I hoped that they produced a new batch with the known defect fixed. Nothing has improved. The third kettle is also defective in exactly the same way power switch doesn''t work properly and turns the kettle off several seconds after turning on.

I love the features of this kettle. However, after 10 months of use, it began to leak around the seam just where the bottom of the handle joins the body of the kettle. Disappointing.

My husband thinks that small appliances are a waste of counterspace and money. I don''t always disagree, but we make press pot coffee twice a day and heating up the water on the stove took 15+ minutes and there was always floating sediment in the bottom of our kettle...sounds appetizing! I researched this kettle and liked the description that the water boiled quickly and turned off automatically....I also wanted it to retain heat and be able to be taken off of the heating source for serving. My husband (and I) really like this pot. We use it not only for coffee (full pot to boiling takes just under 5 minutes) but to boil water for pasta and other cooking. It saves me time and I don''t want to be in the kitchen all night....this is one small appliance that we do not want to be without. The only change I would make is that the handle seems a bit large for the average hand so it is not as comfortable to hold and I still have sediment...which is probably a problem with my water. At least now I can get into the pot to clean through the large opening. No weird smells here and we have been using daily for 6 months.

There are good/bad sides to anything, and here''s an attempt at an unbiased review of both:

Note: We purchased this at Bed Bath & Beyond using the discount. We had to exchange it due to the on/off switch not working, and the second kettle still works fine after 2 years. I liked it so much I got one for my mother in law as a gift. Hers is also working fine after 1 year. Personally, I''m switching to a stainless steel kettle b/c I don''t like having a plastic-lined kettle, and also the wattage is a bit too high for our kitchen (1750W is on the high end for electric kettles; some are 1500 or 1200W).

The Pros:

-item works well, have had no problems or leaks, etc.

-the high voltage heats water in just a couple minutes. i boiled 5 cups of water in 3 mins, 20 seconds. usually i boil only 2 cups at a time which is even quicker.

-not too loud as far as electric kettles go, sort of a low rumbling.

-easy to clean on the outside, dark color conceals splatters and dust

-the little switch on top lights up while it''s boiling

-there''s a trigger under the handle to open the lid. sometimes i open it to put the water in the kettle this way since the lid can be a pain (see below)

The Cons:

-for us, the high voltage has been a con, as it trips the breaker when we use our micro (which is 1100W) and the kettle (1750W) at the same time. fyi, our house is only 8 years old.

-we had trouble with the first model''s on/off switch. it wouldn''t stay on long enough to heat the water. (our 2nd kettle did not have this problem)

-the lid (on both that we tried) is a bit troublesome. you have to rotate it a bit back and forth (between "close" and "lock") to click it in place.

-the interior is the same as the exterior, a heavy-duty plastic material. the base is a silver metal, probly Stainless Steel. I am no longer comfortable boiling water in plastic for human consumption. The steel can get brownish from water deposits and needs to be cleaned (some stores sell drop-in tablets for that)--also normal.

Hope this review was helpful. I wrote it b/c I appreciate the reviews others have written! God bless, CB

I just purchased this product after alot of research of other similar

electric kettles.I followed the directions about boiling twice and I did

not detect any plastic taste or smell like other reviewers. The water boils fast, shuts off like it is supposed to, pours without steam burning

my hand and feels light even when full. I don''t really need all that water

but I like having that feature. It''s also very easy to clean. I love it!!

I thought a bad solenoid was the problem with my Honeywell humidifier. It wasn''t. A hard water deposit had plugged a the pinhole sized inlet on the fitting that goes into my solenoid. Once I turned off the power and water, remove the water line and the inlet fitting; I cleaned out the pinhole and the little black screen inside the silver fitting and could blow through it. Put it all back together and the solenoid was was working like a champ again. It is awesome that this solenoid is available here, just make sure that that is really the problem first. I fixed mine for $0.00.

When my Honeywell central humidifier continued to flow water even when turned off, Honeywell customer service helped me to troubleshoot it, with the result we concluded that the solenoid valve needed to be replaced. Honeywell gave me the part number to order and even a link to the Amazon listing. After checking other sources for the same valve, it became apparent that Amazon had the best price and delivery, so I placed the order. The item was delivered earlier than projected and installed easily.

When I noticed our whole house humidifier wasn''t working, I did some troubleshooting and figured out the old solenoid wasn''t working. Swapping it out for this new one was extremely easy and got our system working again. Best of all, fixing it myself saved a bunch of money instead of calling a repair man to come look at it.

There is not much on a humidifier that would cause it to break. Bad circuit or the solenoid...this fixed it right up. Our problem was that the solenoid was stuck open and water was constantly running through it and not just when the heating unit was running like it should have. Our water bill was very high because of the broken solenoid.

I think these tablets are over priced for a cleaning product. I plan to use some of the less expensive tablets to compare and will check back here soon. $ stars because they do keep the machine functioning well. However our daughter has never cleaned her Jura Capresso in 4 years and only had one minor clog which rectified itself with a little water flush.

Sure they are overpriced, but using the correct product on your expensive automatic coffee maker is a small price to pay to ensure that it is going to keep working. When you pay $2000 for a coffee maker, why would you try to save $5 and risk either harming or only partially cleaning it? False savings!

West Bend 58002 12-42 Cup Automatic Party Perk Coffee Urn Save 34% Off

West Bend 58002 12-42 Cup Automatic Party Perk Coffee UrnI am pretty particular about coffee. I like to gind my own beans and have never used a perc coffee pot in the past. But we were having a huge family gathering and I needed a lot of coffee.

I ordered this Party Perk machine and when it came in I almost returned it because it seemed so flimsy, but I figured I''d give it a chance.

I''m glad I did. All the information I read on the Internet about coffee said that perc''d coffee is not very good because the water is boiled and constantly recirculated through the grounds and this does not equate to how to achieve the best tasting coffee.

Well, while this was not the BEST coffee I have ever had, the coffee was none-the-less very good. I used Berkley and Jensen ground coffee (available at BJ''s Wholesale club)and I could not have been more pleased with the results from this Party Perk. I used a little more than 2-1/2 cups of ground coffee for the full 42 cups and the information I read about expecting the pot to brew the coffee at one cup per minute seemed pretty accurate.

There were a lot of compliments on how good the coffee tasted. It did not taste burned, even after being kept warmed in the pot for a few hours.

I cannot comment on the durability of the machine as I haven''t had it that long. My parents saw this pot and remarked that they had the same one for many many years before they gave it away and never had the first bit of trouble with it.

We got this coffee maker to replace our thirty year old 20 cup maker. After 2 months of constant use, it''s still going strong. Unlike most people, we use this as our main coffee maker. It take us about 2 days to empty it. My husband fills his thermos when going to work and I still have coffee left over for the day.

The coffee maker makes a decent cup of coffee. Our only problem was we had 4 large cans of coffee in the cupboard that we could no longer use. We wound up wrapping them for Christmas presents. This coffee maker uses a courser ground coffee than the ADC makers. Luckily our grocery store has whole beans that you can grind to your specs.

My husband says he only wishes that it would come with a timer. I mentioned to him that this is normally used at a social function. We solved the problem with a timer that plugs into the outlet that we plug the maker into.

Eventually when this one goes out, we''ll buy another one like this. The size and style fits well on our counter under the cupboard. It takes about 40-45 mins for a full pot to brew.

We purchased the West Bend 58002 to make coffee for a program of adults that averages 15-25 people per day. This coffee maker provides good tasting coffee for the individuals and brews in a timely manner. Cleaning the coffee maker at the end of the day is easy. The cost was ok. We really didn''t like the plastic filter cup but were unaware that is was not a metal filter when we bought it. We also would have preferred a coffee maker with an on/off switch, rather than just plugging and unplugging it for power. Overall, it does a good job for our needs and we would recommend it to others.

I usually get Pur water filters for my faucet. The water tastes delicious (especially the 3-stage one), but I''ve had to replace two of them because they break after a few months. A hole will form usually on the red area that tells you when to replace the filter (water spews everywhere). I wanted to try a different brand that won''t break after a few months. This brand is more affordable and it was very easy to install. The water definitely tastes better than plain tap water and does its job to filter out bad things. I''m just honestly not used to the taste yet. To me, it doesn''t taste as good as Pur. However, it''s designed well and probably will last.

PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount Chrome FM-3700B Save 1% Off

PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount Chrome FM-3700BThis one-click thing doesn''t work. It just kept falling off the sink every time I would turn on the water until finally it wouldn''t even stay on at all. There are several design malfunctions with this unit. I actually tried a few different ones thinking that particular one was defective but I soon learned the whole line suffers from the same problems. First of all, the entire weight of the unit rests on the connection to faucet. you can tell it''s not balanced well because every time you turn on the water lightly, the unit''s lifts up from the pressure of the water. Unfortunately, if you turn the water up past the point of dripping, the unit explodes off. In addition, the little piece that attaches to the faucet is made of plastic so after the unit falls off a few times the grooves completely wear away and it no longer stays on at all! VERY poorly designed!!! If only they had invested a few more cents into making that plastic piece metal!!! Too bad because the water really did taste wonderful!!!

I still love these filters even if the quality isn''t like before.

But still the best around.

I don''t trust the carafes.

Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle Save 30% Off

Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle, Silver/ClearThe product was not nearly as nice as the Breville SK500XL Ikon Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle we bought when this one suddenly stopped working after six months.

First of all, if you showed me this kettle and asked me what it was made of, my first reaction would be "shiny metal-look plastic."

Second of all, after it completely conked out after only six months of moderate use, the seller, PRESENTS FOR US, completely ignored all my communications trying to get the product replaced.

Third of all, I emailed Kalorik no less than four times in an attempt to take advantage of their alleged "one year warranty" and once again, received absolutely zero response.

At the end of the day, I would never purchase another product from PRESENTS FOR US nor would I buy anything from Kalorik. There are so many better options.

What we have here is just another made in China item from an unworthy manufacturer.

1) This "stainless steel / glass" kettle does contain small plastic parts on the inside below the water line.

2) While there is a plate on the inside at the bottom over the heating element, the plate seems to be made of an inferior material. It developed spots (looks like rust to me) after the first couple of uses.

3) There is a gap / seam around that plate on the inside at the bottom where water can collect and stay in invisible / inaccessible places.

4) These parts of the kettle are just about impossible to wipe down because of narrow height of the kettle and lid design.

5) Some water will always stay in the kettle no matter how you try to empty it because of lid / spout design.

6) Not made in USA

The kettle retains a 2nd star since it does boil water quickly and does seem solid. The design of the external base is pleasing. The toggle switch on the kettle itself is sexy.

It is, however, by no means "green," healthy or made by a trustworthy manufacturer. The chamber which contains the water is NOT made out of solid, stable non-reactive materials. At this very moment it is probably leaching chemicals including toxins from plastics, nickel, glues, or coatings into the water. I''m looking for a replacement...

Buy Kalorik Aqua Line Cordless 60-Oz. Kettle Now

I was looking for a kettle with no plastic-water contact. This one is

aesthetically pleasing and uses only a little plastic. Unfortunately, mine

will not boil water because the sensor shuts off as soon as the water even

begins to get warm. Poor quality control! It''s going back of course.

The top is glass but contains various plastic parts inside. Also, there

is the ubiquitous plastic water level gizmo, which is really unneeded in

this design, since the top is so easy to open (push the thumb button).

If the manufacturer got rid of the water level thing and a little more

plastic inside, and also got their switches and sensors under control, it

could be a winner. As it is, don''t bother.

Cats Rule Frog Watering Hole Water Fountain Save 4% Off

Cats Rule Frog Watering Hole Water Fountain, White and GreenGiven the price of this product, I figured it was a fairly low risk entry point in the world of cat fountains. Sadly, the price was reflective of the quality.

The product is just as pictured. It comes in 3 pieces the main plastic basin, a second plastic riser/basin, and a frog which sits upon the second piece. Water is sucked through a motor hidden below the riser and is pushed through a tube and out the frog''s mouth. The motor is adjustable, with 3 power settings and the package comes with two carbon filters.

It took some work out of the box to adjust the rubber tubing running through the frog to ensure that water was getting pushed through. Even with adjustment, quite a bit of water leaks into the small elevated basin below the frog. It is worth mentioning that the frog is made of hollow plastic and is thus prone to mildew.

The fountain dispenses into a small dish, it was not wide enough to allow our cat to drink from the bowl without being splashed by the stream. For this reason our cat would barely approach the fountain except to occasionally drink from the VERY shallow top reservoir.

The motor is noisy and can be heard humming over the sound of the splashing water, it began malfunctioning about 2 weeks after purchase. The fountain stopped spouting, no matter the setting, and was very loud even on low. After disassembling the motor and cleaning out the fountain, the noise was reduced, but waterflow could not be returned to normal. The best flow I could get was a stream into the top basin on the high setting and a dribble down the frog''s chin on both medium and low.

This fountain was a waste of time and money. Our cat wouldn''t go near it, it molded quickly, and then it broke. Save yourself and your pet the frustration skip this item.

We were given this as a gift by friends after their two cats refused to drink from it. They think the cats were scared by the noise.

Our cat loves noise climbing up in the window to see what is happening whenever the construction across the street gets noisy! Our cat is fine with drinking out of this fountain. Probably drinks a little more water than she would otherwise. (She still likes the toilet, as well, though!)

There isn''t that much noise a low hum which gets louder if the water gets too low.

Overall a fine product and it seems cheaper than comparable cat fountains. Just be warned that your cat may not go for it.

Buy Cats Rule Frog Watering Hole Water Fountain Now

We put this item on our wedding registry just for fun and thankfully someone bought it for us, because our cat loves it. We''ve been using it for about 4 months and right now I''m searching to stock up on refill filters so that we can use it long-term. Our cat was a little hesitant about drinking out of it at first, but now she loves it and ignores her other water bowls. She drinks out of the stream coming out of the frogs mouth. Only problem is that if the stream out of the frog''s mouth stops, she gets quite upset. Usually fiddling with the frog or changing the water fixes the issue fairly easily. I was having some major problems with the water flow for a day or two, but changing the filter resolved the issue.

This is everything I had wanted it to be!

Pros: very easy to assemble, not too loud, very cute

Cons: the filters it came with seemed cheap and flimsy, but that''s easily fixed with buying some better ones [the ones it came with were free after all]

Overall this water dish is easy to use to put together and VERY cute.

It is everything I wanted.

Want Cats Rule Frog Watering Hole Water Fountain Discount?

I got this to try before buying a more expensive fountain. We have had this for 3 months with no problems. The motor only makes noise when the water level gets too low. You do have to fiddle with it at first to get the water to splash in the "pond" where you want it to without making too much noise, but it is not hard to do. It is fairly easy to clean and our cat loves it.

GE Air Purifier HEPA Filter Kit

GE Air Purifier HEPA Filter KitThis filter fits General Electric AFHC21AM air purifier.

The filter from Abt through Amazon is shipped with a sealed blue cardboard retail box labeled "GE" and "true HEPA". The filter is also labeled. Your nose can feel the difference in air quality within 15 minutes of using this filter.

A "true HEPA" filter must remove at least 99.97% of particles 0.3 micron (millionth of a meter) or bigger. This includes almost all bacteria. If you receive a generic version of the filter, make sure the box says "true HEPA", and not "HEPA-like", "HEPA type" or "like HEPA". It is much much cheaper to replace filters than your lungs. Many people die while waiting for lung transplant. The

inferior filters allow much of bacteria to pass through. They are not worth the saving.

I first started looking for products to remove chlorine from my shower water after hearing that chlorine can hurt your body after absorbing so much day after day. I heard about sonaki from youtube and decided to try it out. I have had experience with my eyebrows drying out and flaking and with my face feeling dry and itchy. I gave this product awhile to see if it worked and to my surprise my eyebrows and face are now no longer dry. I also feel more awake after taking a shower than I used to since its said that chlorine can cause you to feel drained of your energy. If you are having problems with your face being dry I suggest getting this. Also to help do not use soap on your face, I use a just use a loofah to scrub away the dead skin and let the water do the rest, when drying just pat your face with the towel and then let the rest of the water air dry.

While looking at the filter I was really confused as to if the vitamin c comes out at all since I couldnt really see any hole for it to escape from. But when you turn on the shower you can see it start spinning. I was still curious so after a shower I took out the filter immediately. I could smell the vitamin c and just to be even more sure I licked it. Haha..I did taste the vitamins so that right there proved it to me. After a week or so of taking a 20 minute shower every day I saw some of the powder going away but there is still quite a bit in it.

So overall I''d have to say this product is amazing. The jet and soft spray at once feel great and knowing the vitamins are helping my body makes me feel even better. Good bye chlorine.

Jiffy Steamer Liquid Cleaner (3 Pack) Save 9% Off

Jiffy Steamer Liquid CleanerI have the Jiffy Travel Steamer, the Esteam machine. I had quite a bit of buildup on the bottom of the steamer. I tried vinegar/water over night. It loosened up some of it, but not much at all. I then bought some of this stuff. I checked after one hour and shook the steamer around with the solution inside to see if any of the calcium has come loose, but nothing. I then looked again after 2 hours. I finally started to see the calcium floating in the solution. They recommend emptying it after 2 hours, but I let it sit over night. If I emptied it after 2 hours, I would still have a lot of calcium buildup on the bottom. So leaving it sit overnight is a good idea. I uploaded before and after pictures of the steamer so you can see my results. I would have given it 5 stars, but it didn''t get rid of it all, but about 90% of it which is fine with me. I think I will use distilled water in the future so as not to get this calcium buildup any more, at least when I use it at home. Buying a gallon of distilled water every now and then will be quite a bit cheaper than buying this solution every few months. Besides, I mostly use it at home anyway and When I do travel, I will just use tap water and try and dry it best I can afterwards. So if you have the buildup, I can honestly say that it does work!

My mom has the old J-200 steamer, which gradually accumulated some buildup to the point that NOTHING was coming out of the hose. The hose was getting warm, but no steam.

I scoured the internet and tried the cheapest method I saw which was to use a mix of vinegar and water. I let that sit in the steamer for at least a week, with absolutely no results.

While trying to find an authorized service dealer, I ran across one in North Hollywood who walked me through some steps that I could try, and also suggested using this branded liquid cleaner which he mentioned would probably work a lot better than vinegar since it contained acid. I put in only about 1/4th of the bottle and let it sit overnight. The next morning, after rocking the liquid inside the unit back and forth, I noticed the clear liquid had turned into a deep brown hue, with a few chunks of sediment. Flushed it out with water, re-attached the hose, and plugged it in. A few seconds later, the familiar throaty gurgle roared into life and out came a puff of thick white steam.

This stuff works, people. Well, it did for me, and now I don''t have to look like I crawled out of the dryer with my wrinkly shirts. :)

I have the Jiffy Esteam handheld steamer and absolutely love it for everyday use so it was good to bring it back to full working condition. (I only received one bottle of cleaner, not a 3 pack.)

This cleaner works great to get the deposits off of the element in the steamer.

I waited a little too long the last time between treatments and the element was completely white with a pretty thick covering of deposits. I tried leaving the solution in two hours and that barely did anything. I left it over night the second time and in the morning the deposits flaked right off.

You can very lightly prod the element with a long object after it has been soaking awhile. If the deposits are stuck fast then let it sit a few more hours until it only takes a gentle prod for the white deposits to come off. You can then empty and a few good rinses should suffice to remove the residue of deposits. Note: You should not try and scrape the element clean. If you have to do this then it has not soaked long enough.

Instructions are easy to follow. I recommend it.

Santevia Alkaline Water Stick Brand: Santevia

Santevia Alkaline Water Stick Brand: SanteviaOur tap water has a pH around 6.4. I have wanted to improve this for quite some time. I saw this product in a health food store and decided to give it a try. It doesn''t work!!!!! I have a pH testing kit, and after 5 minutes, it had not changed, nor after 10. After about 20, it maybe changed a little, but maybe by .2. I left it for a bit longer to see if with time it would work, and it didn''t. Finally after 1 hour, I tasted it to see if it at least made the water taste better.... it was horrible! Even if it worked, pH-wise, I wouldn''t use this, because the water tastes so bad. I wish it had worked, but really, don''t buy this!

BISSELL 58F83 Rewind SmartClean Save 28% Off

BISSELL 58F83 Rewind SmartClean, BlueI got this vacuum as a present, but logging on to amazon I''m a little (pleasantly) surprised at the price. I''m hugely impressed with this vac. Here are some of the things to consider:

1) Power. This thing has it in spades. You won''t believe what this thing will pick up. The first time I vacuumed my living room I found dirt...yes, as in earth... filling up the bottom third of the canister.

2) Clean sensor. The vacuum has some kind of sensor (optical I''m guessing) that detects when there is still dirt/dust in the air the vacuum is sucking in. When it doesn''t see any more dirt, the light is green, carpet''s clean. First time I used the vacuum the rug looked clean, but the red light told me "you''re not done yet". So see my comment in #1 about how much the vac picked up.

3) Weight. Nothing special. Not too heavy but the thing is made out of plastic.

4) Noise. You can still have a normal conversation while you''re vacuuming. You might have to speak up a bit but its not bad.

5) Hose and attachments. The hose detaches from the back of the brush head area and has an extension as well as an upholstery brush head and a narrow nozzle. The hose is pretty flexible and stretches for extra reach, but I honestly think it takes too much force. If you try to stretch it sideways to reach a corner, the vac may fall on its side.

6) Cleaning and loss of suction. Cleaning is easy. Slide a lever and it unlocks the canister, dump and go. As the canister fills up you''re going to lose some pickup power. The same happens when the air filters start clogging up. Which happens surprisingly fast. Maybe Dyson is on to something with this whole "no loss of suction" ad campaign. Bissel thought of it and has a little green-red slide indicator to let you know how much you''re losing (and when you have to clean it).

Wrap-up: This is a solid vacuum for the money. It may not pick up quite as much as my parents'' Dyson DC23 but it doesn''t cost $500 or weigh 20 lbs either.

I think that Bissell makes one of the better quality vacuums for the money. The key words here are "for the money." Because obviously if you''re going to spend much, much more for a Miele or a Sebo vac, then you''ll get a better product, but you''re certainly going to pay up for it.

The Bissell 58F83 vacuum is the 2nd or 3rd Bissell vacuum I''ve owned and I also own a Bissell carpet cleaner, so I have some familiarity with their products. There were some things I liked about this vac, and other areas where I would have liked to see some improvement. Let''s start with some good things about the 58F83 vac.

Good things:

It cleans very well. I vacuum my carpets pretty regularly and I was surprised at the amount of dirt and dust that it got out of my carpet. The primary purpose of a vacuum is to clean, and this one does in fact clean pretty nicely. It has a 12 amp motor, which is pretty beefy and gets the job done.

I like the clean carpet sensor. Sure, it''s kind of gimmicky, but basically this sensor consists of a big red light and a big green light on the front of the unit. If you see the green light, the carpet is more-or-less clean. If you see the red light illuminated, then make a few more passes until the light turns green. We could all live without this, but I think it''s a nice feature.

The vac is very easy to assemble. All that you have to do is remove the unit from the box and slide the top handle into the base of the unit. Then, insert one screw and you''re mostly done. You do have to plug in the hoses, but that''s very quick and easy. Truly, Bissell couldn''t have made assembly much easier.

The fact that the vacuum has a headlamp is a plus. Again, it''s a feature we could live without, but it definitely helps you to see what might be in front of you and assists with the cleaning process.

I like the price. As of this writing, this vacuum isn''t a whole lot over $100 shipped. This seems to be a very good value to me.

Most would consider the fact that the vac is bagless to be a good thing. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, bagless vacuums can be convenient and save money on bags. On the other hand, vacs that use bags are a lot less messy and they essentially force you to change the filter each time that you change the bag. But for most people, they''d likely consider the bagless feature to be a plus.

Not so good things:

I don''t care for the retractable cord. It catches and doesn''t retract smoothly. In fact, I took this vacuum to the repair shop. They told me that these cord retractors are "cheaply made" and said that even if replaced, I''d almost certainly have the same problem and that I''d be better off not messing with the repair. I think that this retractor could easily break and again mine was quite sticky right out of the box. While it sounds like a good feature, I don''t believe that it is in practice. I would have preferred a more traditional non self-retracting cord. Hint: When retracting the cord, push the button quite firmly in the exact center of the circle and not on the sides of the switch. You''ll see what I mean.

I hate the location of the cord. It''s down low and I was constantly stepping on it or it was otherwise getting in my way and in the way of vacuuming. Bad placement for sure. I would have much preferred that the cord attach to the vac up high, so it wouldn''t be so obtrusive.

The on/off switch is located down fairly low on this vacuum to the point where I have to bend down a bit to turn it on or off. I would have preferred that they mounted the switch higher so that I could turn it on and off without having to bend over.

This vacuum is relatively heavy. On my scale, it weighed in at nearly 18 pounds. While I''m a fairly strong guy, even I found it a bit awkward due to it''s size and weight. If you''re a smaller person, it could be heavier than what you might like.

It''s very loud. Probably the loudest vacuum I''ve ever owned. I doubt it will damage your hearing or anything like that, but expect it to make a bit more noise than you''d anticipate.

I don''t care for the way that Bissell''s attachments connect to the hose. Essentially, it''s only friction that holds them in place. I''d much prefer that they connect in a more affirmative manner with either a twist or a click. I''ve written about this concern before and I see that things haven''t changed. I''ve had the wands fall off in situations where I had to contort, bend and strain to get to the wands during times where they''ve become disconnected in an inconvenient location, and it''s kind of a pain to deal with that.

Overall, I''d give this vacuum a 3 star rating. It''s not great and it''s not bad. It cleans very well and the price is attractive. But it does have some aforementioned issues that I am not crazy about. I do give it a qualified recommendation, but it has its flaws for sure.

Bissel makes several vacuum cleaners that have very similar features. In fact, it offers several that are virtually identical, except for one or two small differences between them, and slightly different prices accordingly. I like the basic design very much, and recommend the product, but I suggest you look closely at two or three models to decide whether it''s worth the additional cost for a particular feature. In this case, the extra feature is a clean carpet sensor, described below.

I''ve used several Eurekas and Hoovers, and I prefer this vacuum cleaner. Here''s why:

1. It''s very easy to assemble. Ten minutes and a screwdriver, and you''re ready to go. Really, it''s that simple.

2. Great suction! When I first started using it, I was amazed at how much dirt it picked up from carpets I''d just vacuumed. It continues to perform on that level. I think you''ll be impressed when you see a layer of fine dirt at the bottom of the collection canister, with a thick pile of pet hair and other larger material on top. To maintain maximum suction, after several uses you should remove the filter beneath the canister (very easy to do) and wash both the filter and the sponge that surrounds it, and let them dry thoroughly (which takes about a day) before putting it back in. The loss of suction isn''t dramatic if you don''t, but it''s noticeable. The HEPA filter on the side of the machine isn''t washable, but it doesn''t collect much dirt; tapping it on a hard surface every once in a while is more than enough maintenance. (A reviewer or two has complained about the amount of dirt released when emptying the canister. I didn''t find it a problem. Just pay attention.)

3. The "turbo brush" attachment really works. It attaches to the end of the hose, and the suction running through it makes the smaller brush within it spin very fast and powerfully. I use it to remove pet hair from couches or my car interior, etc., and it''s great--much more effective than the typical attachments that just rub the carpet. Truly, if you have a pet this attachment is a real value.

4. It''s reasonably light, compared to other vacuums, and yet sturdy. The only mechanical issue I''ve had after several years of use is the need to replace the belt that turns the main brush after accidentally sucking up part of a bedspread--my own fault. Replacement wasn''t very difficult.

5. It''s easy to empty. Slide a lever to release the canister, slide out the canister, dump out the contents, and slide it back in.

6. No bags. Some people like the fact that bags contain the dust better than an open canister, which will release some dust when you remove it to empty it. For me, the hassle of making sure I have extra bags on hand, paying for those bags, replacing the bags, and the loss of suction as the bag fills outweigh that factor, and I''ll never go back to bags.

7. The price is reasonable. Perhaps because Hoover and Eureka are better known, the Bissells are very competitive.

8. This unit has a retractable cord. This won''t keep the cord at optimal length while you''re vacuuming--you still have to keep the cord out of the way--but it pulls in the cord after you''re finished, instead of having to wrap it. It will also let you play out a smaller length of cord if you''re vacuuming a smaller room.

Negatives:

1. The hose is neither very long nor very flexible, so when you use it either with the turbo brush or just to run along the baseboard, etc., it''s easy to pull the whole vacuum cleaner over.

2. Although Bissell touts the vacuum''s ability to suck up dirt very close to the wall, I''ve been unimpressed; I often end up using the hose for that. I can''t say whether other manufacturers'' models do a better job.

3. The feature that makes this model different from one that costs about twenty dollars less is a "clean carpet sensor" light that is supposed to change color from red to green when the carpet you''re vacuuming is clean. First, I don''t feel the feature is very useful even if it works; if I vacuum an area and see no more evidence of dirt, I''m fine with moving on. But in any case, I found the light unreliable. True, I didn''t use a microscope to determine how clean the carpet really was when the light changed color, but there were times when it wouldn''t change color no matter how many times I went over an area. To me, it''s a gimmick and not worth the extra cost.

All in all, a solid, easy-to-maintain, powerful vacuum cleaner, but I think most people will be just as happy with a slightly less expensive model with out the light indicating your carpet is clean.

I BOUGHT THE BISSELL REWIND SMARTCLEAN 58F8-3 VACUUM ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. WE HAVE 4 DOGS AND 4 CATS, SO THERE IS A LOT OF PET HAIR AROUND THE HOUSE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A NEW VACUUM THAT WORKS REALLY GOOD AT CLEANING CAT HAIR OFF STAIRS. I HAD BOUGHT A BISSELL ABOUT 10 OR 12 YEARS AGO AND IT STILL WORKS GOOD, BUT IT IS OLD. I BOUGHT ANOTHER VACUUM A WHILE AGO, IT WAS SUPOSE TO WORK WELL PICKING UP PET HAIR, BUT IT WASN''T THAT GOOD. I SAW THIS VACUUM ON SALE AND BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I HAD SUCH GOOD LUCK WITH THE LAST BISSELL I HAD. I HAVE USED IT NUMEROUS TIMES CLEANING THE STAIRS AND THE OTHER CARPETS IN THE HOUSE AND IT WORKS GREAT EVERY TIME. IF YOU HAVE A PET HAIR PROBLEM OR CARPETS THAT GET DIRTY FAST, I WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND THIS VACUUM. IT WORKS GREAT EVERY TIME.

I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE PERFORMANCE AND FEATURES OF THIS VACUUM (auto-rewind, bagless, WASHABLE FILTERS, etc.). I decided to buy a Bissell about a 9 mos ago, since I hadn''t any experience with the brand and, side by side, it seemed a much more impressive machine than the comparably priced Hoover. I have been very pleased!

Yes, it IS fairly loud -but what is that to complain about? The suction is really powerful (almost comparable to a $2000 Kirby, imo) and power and growl go together. The construction quality also seems above normal for the present state of the industry (I''ve come to despise Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and three or four other brands I''ve tried) and I believe the warranty is better than normal, as well.

Bissell should be very proud of itself with this machine. Unlike most of their competitors (actually, all I am aware of) they have over-delivered, by a huge margin. The price just dropped on Amazon to $99 and so I decided to stock up. If nothing else I can give a few away for Xmas presents!

Stop looking for a better machine in this price range. I''m pretty sure you won''t find a better machine for even twice the price. I''m hoping this machine is an example, rather than an exception, of the Bissell product line. I would love to see the vendors of deliberately degraded vacuum brands driven out of business. For the price, and in comparison, this machine isn''t just good -it appears to be amazing.

---

update: EVEN BETTER than I expected! This machine has a THREE YEAR warranty and appears to have a new feature: a red/green dirt sensor which tells you when a floor or carpet is clean or still needs more work. For $99??? I will update my review if I am disappointed with the durability of the machines. But I don''t expect that because: (1) Companies don''t offer extraordinary warranties unless they are extraordinarily sure of product quality. (2) I note Bissell is an American company and the machine is made in S. Korea (not China -the land of garbage) and (3) THE CEO''s NAME IS BISSELL (he is the great grandson of the founder)! Now, that was a pleasant surprise which explains a lot: a CEO who has reason to care about the VERY long term reputation of the company because his name is on the line!! Wow. Do yourself a favor and support a company which DESERVES your business: BUY BISSELL!

Rowenta IS9100 Precision Valet Commercial Full Size Garment Steamer Save 33% Off

Rowenta IS9100 Precision Valet Commercial Full Size Garment Steamer with Retractable Cord and Variable Steam 1550 Watt, Grey PurpleI recently returned the Rowenta Pro Compact steamer in exchange for this "commercial" steamer.

It certainly is a big improvement. The extra 150 watts of steaming power makes a noticeable difference.

There are several features that make this a wonderful unit. The large 1 gallon water tank is clear and easy to remove and refill. The on/off switch and the automatic cord reel are both foot actuated. There are two onboard accessories bins that keep the attachments from disappearing. The steam is powerful, plentiful and literally rolling out in 60 seconds. Also, the unit is quite sturdy.

Unfortunately, there are a few design flaws and disappointing problems. The two large wheels do not roll on my hardwood floors nor on my carpet. Instead as you drag the machine it leaves a nice trail of marks on the floor. The telescoping handles are not secured into the base of the machine and pull out when you attempt to lift the machine. Also, this unit did not come with a handy plastic brush attachment that the cheaper unit did.

Having said all this, the Rowenta Precision Valet Steamer does a wonderful job of removing stubborn wrinkle quickly and easily.

I have used a steamer (different brand) for the last 4 years minus all the nice amenities that the Rowenta IS9100 model has. Last month it started leaking which could not be repaired so I was on the hunt for a new steamer.

I was going to buy the same steamer and then I saw this Rowenta Model IS9100 Commercial one and with all the amenities and I decided to buy this and give it a try. After researching "everything" that was out there on clothes steamers, the Rowenta rose to the top of my list for several reasons. The larger water resorvoir which is fabulous! I can steam many more items now without having to stop and refill it...VERY nice feature.

The adjustable handle is also quite nice, allowing me to push it down and slide it out of the way in my laundry room. The efficient and FAST operation of this unit is also very very good. Seems like you don''t even wait a minute or so and you have HOT steam and ready to rock and roll! (As much as you can rock and roll while steaming clothes ;-) Less expensive steamers take 3 to 4 times longer to heat up, so this is a great feature. Also very hot steam...be careful ladies, this is a wonderful feature for getting out those really stubborn wrinkles, but it really smarts if you accidentally get a thumb in the way ;-)

The automatic cord rewind is another great feature. Before with my old steamer I had to wind my cord around and around and around my stand, which usually fell down anyway.

The garment rack on top is also great...just throw your shirt, sweater over the shoulder forms and steam away....then slide your hanger on and hang up...viola...done...kaput....give me the next item to steam. It rolls great and overall this is one top notch steamer.

So, if you are in the market and looking for a solid steamer...you won''t find one better than this! I love mine! (If you couldn''t tell ;-) You really will not find one better. Remember that old saying "You get what you pay for"...well this is worth every cent!

I have to wear business attire to work everyday. I bought this steamer with the hope that I could cut down on my dry-cleaning bill and avoid the chemicals used by dry cleaners by doing my own ironing. I was particularly hoping that I could use this to handle washing and ironing my dress shirts, which become wrinkly after a single use and dirty after a couple wears. I have a regular table iron that I have used for over a decade to iron my clothes, but it simply takes too long to adequately iron a dress shirt. I was hoping this steamer was the answer to my dilemma; unfortunately, it isn''t.

The steamer simply cannot handle dress shirts adequately, other than taking out simple creases on the flat areas of the front and back. If you have a freshly washed cotton dress shirt that is nice and wrinkly out of the dryer, look elsewhere for help. And forget about ironing the sleeves; anything other than a minor touch-up and you''ll be disappointed. If you''ve seen the video of the unit on Bed, Bath and Beyond''s website, don''t be fooled (like I was). The unit doesn''t work quite as effectively on dress shirts as the video indicates.

The main issue -as far as I can tell -is that the unit suffers from a design flaw; there is no backboard against which one can press the shirt, so one has to akwardly pull down on the shirt, making it impossible to avoid unintended creasing. Perhaps if there was a clip on the bottom that one could use to keep the shirt stretched out (like the comparable Haan unit), it would be easier to maneuver around some of the tougher parts of the dress shirt, like the sides and sleeves. But because the unit has no such feature, you have to use your off hand to pull the bottom of the shirt so that it is straight enough to be ironed. Not only is this ineffective, but it''s dangerous, as you are constantly at risk of steaming your hand (which I almost did twice on my first try).

To Rowenta''s credit, the steam hose seemed to work well and the pressure of the steam was constant. I tried the unit on some of my dress slacks and suit coats, and it seemed okay for purposes of minor touch-ups as to those items of clothing. But I''m not convinced that this limited usefulness is worth the price tag. Also, I''ve read some reviews in which users complained about the wheels; the wheels are a little sticky, but I did not have major issues with transporting the unit around my apartment (on carpet, rug, or hard-wood floor). Overall, the unit is relatively sturdy, so I wasn''t really worried about tipping the unit over. A minor complaint is that the handle where the hose is supposed to rest is also where hangers are supposed to be placed, so you have to hold on to the hose when taking items on and off.

Bottom line for me: If the unit worked well enough to serve as an adequate substitute for dry-cleaning my dress shirts, I would definitely keep it. But because it doesn''t, I will be returning it. If you don''t need it for dress shirts (other than minor touch-ups), this might not be a bad option for you.

Simply amazing!

I was shocked to see the wrinkles disappear from my pants and shirts. I never knew how clothes could be restored so easily. Using an iron never quite got the garment looking perfect. This unit does. It was fun just to steam everything in sight from neckties to polo shirts. It is a good investment. You will not be let down.

The on/off operating button went kaput after three and a half months of use. My only recourse is to ship it to the closest service station (that would be in Colorado: so convenient that I''m in Minnesota) for a three week wait until they can look at it.

Seriously, how much freakin'' research do I have to do before I buy something? Colorado? Three weeks? My boutique can''t wait that long; guess I''ll have to buy another one that has far better customer service than Rowenta.

Toastess DLJK459 Delfino Stainless Steel Cordless Kettle Save 35% Off

Toastess DLJK459 Delfino Stainless Steel Cordless KettleEXPERIENCE: WOW, that''s all I can say, seriously though, this is a top of the line electric tea kettle. First of all, I love stainless steel, as it looks nice, and is also functional in that it won''t rust. Using this kettle couldn''t be any easier, let me explain why. The kettle is cordless, in that you can separate it away from the power base. This allows you to easily fill it in the sink, and there is a reservoir window, located near the handle, to show you the level of water. It can boil between 0.5L all the way up to 1.8L of water.

All I had to do is press the button on the top of the handle, which released the fill door on the top of the kettle, I then filled it up to the 1.0L mark. What is nice about this kettle is, that it has a filter in the pour spout. Now all I have to do is place the kettle back onto the power base, it can go on it any which way, since it''s a 360 degree connection. Then all I have to do is press down on the power switch, located towards the bottom of the handle. Another nice feature is that the kettle, when turned on, will illuminate the reservoir window, so you can see how much water is still left in the kettle.

It will boil 0.5L of water in about 1:30-minute, 1.0L in about 2:30-minutes, 1.5L in about 4:30-minutes, and 1.8L in about 6:30-minutes. I don''t know about you, but I think that''s pretty fast! Think about it, a normal tea pot, fully filled, on your stove, will take about 10-minutes minimum to reach boiling point on the "HIGH" stove setting, and possibly even longer. It will take your microwave at least 3-minutes to boil 1-cup of water, and at least 6 or 7 minutes to boil 2-cups. Yes, I think the Delfino electric kettle wins the race!

The kettle contains a concealed element, which I believe to be a safer rout, and it allows for easier cleaning, as opposed to older kettle models. The kettle comes with built in safety features as well. It doesn''t matter how much water you put into the kettle, when it reaches boiling point, it automatically shuts off. And whenever you take the kettle off of the power base, it also automatically shuts off.

CONCLUSION: I never used to be into electric kettles in the past, I thought they were not necessary. But this stainless steel Delfino kettle from Toastess, has made me a believer. Its safer to use, faster to use, and easier to use, what more could you want? Its list price is for $52.00 dollars. I highly recommend this electric kettle, 5-stars!

I already had an Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle at home and liked it a lot. When I needed another kettle for the office, this Toastess just happened to be on sale. Even though the sale price was still above Aroma''s regular one, I was curious to find out whether the big price difference was justified.

It was not. The two kettles are similar in construction and identical in function. In fact, this Toastess is a little slower than the Aroma, which is no speed demon itself. The seat of the Toastess is also a little wobbly. The auto-shutoff switch is too quick to trigger, and the water would boil for just 2 seconds, not enough time, in my opinion to kill all the germs. In all, I would definitely go with the Aroma even if the two are priced the same.

Bought this kettle for my parents as a Christmas present. We''ve been using it several times a day for two weeks and it has worked beautifully. Looks great on the counter and boils water amazingly quickly. It''s a bit noisy when it''s heating the water, but it boils so quickly that the sound isn''t even a problem. Cordless and auto-off features are great. Better than the other electric kettle I have at home. Would definitely recommend!

I order one it worked great, then within a week, I see a puddle of water around the kettle, and between the kettle and the base. Find that it is leaking at the seam below the name. Return to Amazon (easy). New one arrives, and within a week, I can see the water marks on the base, and water seeping out the seam on this one too.

Now we choose to keep it, it does work well, and holds lots of water.

DO NOT STORE WATER IN IT for any length of time.

I bought the kettle for my brother who is a big tea drinker after I received my first elecric tea kettle from my daughter and just loved it. He has nothing but praise for this kettle. He says the kettle size and cord length are perfect and the automatic shut off, the best feature, has worked every time. We don''t know why it took us so long to find these kettles as we have burned up some expensive stovetop tea kettles and pots over the years. I have a Utilitea variable temperature kettle which seems to be "out of stock" since Christmas time but I have not brewed any tea which requries a lower temperature. My only complaint with these kettles is that the water level viewer is made of plastic so when heated you are drinking the poisons from the plastic. Glass should be used. To limit my exposure, I fill my kettle just for 1 cup of tea so the water barely reaches the plastic.
