Mr. Coffee VBX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Mr. Coffee VBX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, BlackI love coffee! Coffee, coffee & more coffee! For as long as I can remember, I have owned the basic, easy-to-use, bell and whistle-less Mr. Coffee Machine.

Early one morning, I was horrified to discover that the heating elment on my then current machine had committed suicide the night before. It was an ugly morning of bumping into walls and uttering quite a few ugly little sentences. Avid coffee drinkers will understand.

So I head over to the local "Linnens-and-Beyond" type place,(what exactly is the "beyond" part anyway?)and I found it. The basic, black, 12 cup, on/off, timer if I should ever decide to use it, under $30.00 Mr coffee. Yay! Oh the rejoicing!!

Until I got it out of the box. The horror! They had changed the design of my beloved basic machine!

It used to be that just the back water chamber lid opened. Now the whole top of the machine is lidded. The problem? I have to pull the machine all the way to the edge of the counter to pour the water in. Then I have to push the whole thing back after it is full. Splash!! Ok not so big a problem, right?

Wrong!! And now for the idiots of the world, they have introduced two sunflower seed sized holes on the back wall of the water chamber. I suppose this is so he chamber is not over-filled. Great. So any water that I may overpour goes all over the counter. Or when I push the machine back into place, the splashing water in the chamber comes out you guessed it, all over the counter. Hey guys, thanks. What a brilliant idea.

Oh, did I mention that the pot itself is it''s own little nightmare and a half. This pot spills, spills, spills and spills some more. When filling the chamber, it dribbles. When I am pouring a cup, it dribbles all over, you guessed it, my counter. Gee, I sure am getting sick of wiping up the counter.

Open up the top of this machine and you will find the filter basket which has above it, a pivoting water arm. Ths arm must be moved anytime the filter is to be removed or replaced. Did I mention I wanted basic? Why am I delaing with moving parts at 5am? Oh one more flaw with this design. Remember our dribbling special-ed pot? Well if any water you are pouring into the chamber hits the axis point of the pivoting arm (ooh fancy!), said water will dribble instantaneously onto the heating element below (where the pot sits). Yay! More to wipe up!

Ok, so the bottom line is, pass on this design. I don''t know why the original design had to be changed, but change is not always a good thing.

The company should reimburse me for all the paper towels I have to use EVERY day.

I would like to see the machine go back to its previous design so I may be able to start my day NEATLY and happily with my oldest friend, Mr. Coffee.

Unfortunately (for me) I largely agree with The Electric Rat''s review. I wanted a basic coffee maker (so many others have very complicated-looking features, or add-ons like grinders and filters that I already have separate from my coffee maker, and they add a lot to the price). This one is basic but the design could be better. I''d say this coffee maker is OK, but research others before you buy it, maybe you can get something better for the same price.

Pros:

-Makes good coffee.

-I''m happy with the temperature (I''m also not a fan of coffee that you have to let sit for 20 minutes to avoid 3rd degree burns).

-Looks nice on the counter.

-Can set to brew in advance.

-2-hour shutoff.

-Contrary to other reviews I have not had any problems with the pot itself spilling when pouring. I am careful when pouring, but with my old coffee maker, even when I was careful it would spill.

-I only have to clean the removable parts. My old coffee maker used to get very dirty on the top and I would have to scrub it with a paper towel, and never could get it fully clean. With this one I don''t have to do that. I think a couple of the bad features below are what make me not have to clean that piece, so I''m a little torn on how I feel about it.

-When I open the lid after brewing coffee, the water clinging to the top funnels neatly back into the reservoir (where it evaporates after a while left open), and does not spill onto the counter.

Cons:

-The entire top flips up to put in coffee and water, so I have to pull the whole coffee maker to the edge of the counter, because it flips too high for the cabinets.

-There are holes in the back of the water reservoir, so if I pour too much in it''ll leak all over the counter. The holes are only just above the 12-cup mark so I haven''t spilled yet but it makes me nervous every time I make coffee (which is often). I would much rather not have those holes, and have to pour the water out of the coffee maker if I were to put too much in.

-When pouring water into the reservoir, if you''re pouring on the left side (you can use either side), you have to be very careful not to pour onto the water arm and splash.

-I''ve had trouble with the sneak-a-cup feature. I haven''t gotten it to work without a spill onto the hot plate, which I have to sop up with a paper towel (be careful!) or else when I put the pot back on, it sizzles for a long time.

This maker does a good job brewing the coffee. It is easy to use and make s a HOT cup of coffee. However, you would think after all these years of designing coffee pots, Mr. Coffee would have the best design. Nope, not even close.

No matter how slow I go or hard I try, the coffee pot ALWAYS "dribbles". To put it simply, it is a very bad design. If you pour a cup of coffee, do it on a napkin.

This product is the poster child of a product that is designed to break after being used for a relatively short period of time. After a year or so of normal use, I found that I could no longer turn the coffee pot on. After fiddling with it for a short period of time, most people would toss it and go out and buy a replacement. I took it apart, however (the manufacturer was clever enough to replace two of the six phillips-bit screws with torx-bit screws and hide them under the rubber feet which once again would have prevented their dirty secret from being discovered from someone less prepared) and I found that they offset the power switch a quarter of an inch side of the external button, and glued an activating arm to the external button so it would press the power switch. Naturally, such a flimsy arrangement would break off in short order. Looking at the curcuit board shows absolutely no practical reason to set it up that way (it would have actually increased their manufacturing costs by a couple of pennies) other than to design a product that you would be forced to replace after a year or so of normal, daily use.

I won''t be buying another Mr. Coffee product again.

I was getting fed up with

$100 coffee makers which didn''t keep the coffee hot, or dripped when poured, so i decided to try this one, and got it on sale at an incredible price, under $20!!!!! it is attractive, easy to use, makes a nice hot brew and is quick and quiet. the only negative is that you have to use MORE coffee grinds. for some reason, perhaps the lack of a cone shaped basket, the coffee was weak using the normal amount of coffee. so i add an extra scoop for 6 cups, and an extra 2 scoops for 12 cups. not a big deal and the coffee is great. save your money for good quality coffee, and enjoy this lovely cofffeemaker. i have stopped being a coffee maker snob! and this is after years of having problems with the top of the line products!!!!

Filtron Filter Pads

Filtron Filter PadsJust so you all know: The Filtron website offers a filter 2-pack for $7.00. It seems silly to charge almost the same for one filter.

Got a Filtron coffee system last year and absolutely LOVE it. After a year of use however the taste wasn''t quite the same, even though I care for the felt filter as recommended by Filtron. Decided to get a new filter & ordered this one from Amazon. It''s noticeably thinner in thickness than the original, but seems to work fine.

We drink lots of coffee and these filters last a long time. I rinse until the water is clear then hang them up and let them dry out. Soak and wrap them in a filter before I insert them in the pot. No grounds in the filter, easy to clean!!

CRYSTAL QUEST® Whole House Double 20" x 2.5" Water Filter System

CRYSTAL QUEST® Whole House Double 20'' x 2.5'' Water Filter SystemThis filter has dramatically changed the taste of our water from day 1. We have a private well which is untreated ground water. We run our water through a large and small particle sediment filter at the source/pump room. We also have the UV sanitizer after the main in the house. Previously we only had an additional small particle sediment filter in the home and we had problems with bad smelling ice from the in door ice maker of our fridge. The water also had a mild bitterness to the taste, it was tested and came back free of contaminants, but the taste was still there. We replaced our sediment filter with this Crystal Quest 7 stage whole house filter, and what an AMAZING distance. The ice cubes are crystal clear and free of any foul smell and taste, and the water from the tap has never been better! The filter system did not affect our water pressure, which was our only concern as it has a lower flow rate than many others out there, but again there is no change in our pressure, so we could not be happier with this purchase.

We had a company come to our home and test our water, and try to sell us a 6 thousand dollar water filtration system. Upon doing some research, I decided that this one was worth a shot. From the first day we saw a HUGE difference! You can feel the difference on your hands, in the shower. My dishes and stainless steel sink have way less water spots than before, and the water from the tap tastes great. I highly recommend this system, excellent for such a low price! Also I called crystal quest, and the customer service was very helpful, and they even called back when they said they would!!

Water Cooler Test for BacteriaEasy to use. You simply put about 5ml of water you want to test into the tube, shake 20 seconds, then put in a warm place for 48 hours (not a minute as it says on the Amazon page). And it says in the instructions that this cannot be used to certify water as safe for drinking, it only provides approximate results, and the results can only tell you if there is harmful bacteria potentially detected.

I''ve had this air purifier around four months and it''s been in constant use in the bedroom. My video review explains more but in a nutshell, my perpetual morning stuffy nose was eliminated by this machine. I love it! Filters are easy to change (the carbon filter replacement light came on today after four months) and it is whisper quiet. Two thumbs way up for Fellowes Quiet Air Purifier with True HEPA Filter!

This is my new favorite gadget in my home. I was actually concerned that this would be too quiet, but it turned out to be the perfect amount of ''white noise'' to lull me to sleep. Just to put it into perspective, though, this unit is much larger than my old Honeywell air purifier yet much less noisy. I would say that the Honeywell was more vibrational noise, and annoying enough to make it difficult to hear the TV, whereas the Fellowes is barely noticeable but enough to block out distracting noises that keep me from sleeping (like my neighbors in the apartment next door).

The air quality in my room has been great since the machine has been running. Pollen has been crazy high lately, but I have not had any problems to speak of. As for cleaning/changing the filter, it is too early for me to comment on this since I haven''t had it that long.

I will now try very hard to think of something negative (which, there isn''t much at all). For some reason, my cat likes to jump on top of the unit. Sometimes, when he jumps off of the unit, I noticed that the unit tends to ''fall forward'' because of the way the weight is distributed. It probably wouldn''t hurt the machine, since the air comes out the top in such a way that the air flow wouldn''t be blocked. Still, the unit probably could have been engineered in such a way that it was more balanced and less likely to tip over.

In summary, if you are looking for a high-end air purifier to improve your air quality, then look no further.

UPDATE (6/2/12): It has been about 3 months since I started using the product, and the red light has come on to tell me that it is now time to change the charcoal filter -the one that is supposed to filter larger dust particles. This is consistent with what the manual recommends, and the replacement filter is available through Amazon and seems to be at a reasonable price, so I think that it will be worth the cost and effort. Something tells me, though, that the unit doesn''t really detect that the filter is dirty. I suspect that there is simply a timer that signals when the unit has been running for three months!

I bought this purifier for my bedroom to replace a purifier I thought was too loud. But this purifier is incredibly loud but not due to the fan--it''s due to the high pitched noises the PlasmaTRUE ionizer makes. Even on the high fan speed I can hear the PlasmaTRUE which means that to me it is essentially louder than the fan on any setting and so "low" mode is unbearably loud to me. It sounds like a quiet dentist drill to get an idea of the frequency. I''m not young enough to be able to hear the super high pitched text tones so I don''t know why I''m the first to complain about this. To top it off, PlasmaTRUE is impossible to disable. So this purifier was not able to stay in the bedroom. I''m still debating on whether to return it.

If you want more detail about PlasmaTRUE, I found this info in a pdf online:

"o What is PlasmaTRUETM Technology?

PlasmaTRUETM Technology creates electrical discharges that neutralize the smallest and most harmful impurities and pollutants at the molecular level.

o How do I know if the PlasmaTRUETM Technology is working?

The "+" and "-" signs contained in the blinking bubbles on your Indicator Screen indicate that the PlasmaTRUETM Technology is active. There is no way for the human eye to see the effect of PlasmaTRUETM.

o Is PlasmaTRUETM Technology harmful?

No PlasmaTRUETM Technology is safe and has been tested and validated per the latest regulation to show that it does not generate Ozone, as opposed to some competitors'' products

o Can I deactivate PlasmaTRUETM?

No, PlasmaTRUETM is always on.

o What is the difference between an ionizer and PlasmaTRUETM Technology?

There is no difference between an ionizer and PlasmaTRUETM Technology. Some ionizers produce Ozone that can be harmful to your health; however; PlasmaTRUETM Technology has been tested and validated per the latest regulation to show that it does not generate Ozone."

I purchased this hoping the author of the featured critical review was just being super sensitive about the PlasmaTRUE ionizer noise since there weren''t any others that mention the noise. He is spot on though. My unit was delivered today and I noticed it as soon as I turned it on. The noise it produces is very obnoxious and I also don''t know how others aren''t hearing the same thing. Perhaps it''s a defect in only some units. My wife can barely notice it, but for me it''s deal breaker. I called Fellowes support and the nice CSR seemed oblivious about reports of high-frequency noise coming from the ionizer. He said a "clicking noise" is normal, but wasn''t sure about a high pitched whine. I described it as sounding like muted, but continuous cricket chirping. Phone support wasn''t much help and I didn''t feel like returning the unit, so I took things into my own hands.

The noise became so annoying to me that I disassembled the housing and started inspecting the components. At first I was thinking that the ionizer leads just needed a cleaning or something, but they looked fine (they''re just two small prongs in the upper left housing of the unit). I ended up removing the plug from the control board that powers the "Plasma Doctor WHO-1300" which is what they apparently re-brand as "PlasmaTRUE". The plug is behind the HEPA FILTER LED in the power control housing. Here some quick directions for doing this:

1. Unplug the unit and remove the filter cover.

2. Remove the top two screws that hold on the display panel and set the panel aside. It will still be tethered by the display panel control cable.

3. Remove the two screws that hold the black power control housing.

4. Lift up the power control housing and take the tape off that holds the display panel control cable in place.

5. The housing can be opened by hand enough where you can get to the power plug for the PlasmaTRUE (follow the black wire that runs along the outside of the bottom of the housing).

6. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers, disengage the securing latch and gently pull upwards.

7. Tuck the plug under the housing and reassemble.

The unit works fine with the PlasmaTRUE powered down. The PlasmaTRUE indicator on the display still functions and it appears it is just for show. I am a huge fan of everything else about this product. The HEPA filtering is outstanding, the air quality sensor/auto control is legit, and the fan noise is barely audible when it is on low. I can deal with not having ionization if it means truly quiet operation.

If it were $30 cheaper or if I could disable the PlasmaTRUE without taking the unit apart I would give it 4/5 stars (5/5 stars if it were quiet). As it stands now I give it 3/5 for having to spend 5 minutes to disengage the ionizer and not being able to have the feature without the noise driving me crazy.

I purchased my Fellowes Quiet Air Purifier with True HEPA filter AP300PH about 4 weeks ago, and have been running it on the High setting 24/7 ever since. The first day I got it I ran it on the Turbo setting for about 3 hours to clean out my family room. It did a fantastic job! It is a little noisy on turbo, but DON''T let that stop you from purchasing it, because you hardly ever need to run it on Turbo!!! When it is on the High setting it sounds like a soft fan...Very Quiet!.....Most the time I don''t even realize it is on, and I don''t have to have the TV any louder either.

My indoor allergies have been SO much better since I purchased the AP300PH. Actually I have stopped having to use my NasalChrome nasal allergy spray, which I used to use several times a day. I have also stopped having to use an allergy mask, which I was having to use daily.

When I say I am thrilled with my purchase, I truly mean it!! I couldn''t be happier. I had a smaller, much noisier unit before this one, and didn''t run it much because it was so loud, even on low and it was supposed to be a quiet model....haha. So I returned it and got this unit.

Do yourselves a favor and buy this Air Purifier, you won''t be sorry!! An added bonus for me was the fact that nice clean air comes out the top of the unit like a gentle fan blowing fresh air.

I think this is the second review I have ever written, and I just can''t say enough good things about it!

It''s easy to move around, easy to open up to get to the pre-carbon filter and True HEPA filter when it''s time to replace them. Taking a look at mine, it doesn''t look like I will need to replace mine any time soon. Oh, by the way, my house is Extremely dusty and I have 3 dogs who shed a lot, so the AP300PH has a lot of allergens to deal with.

Ok.....I think I have said my piece. Go buy your own ;)

Filtrete Under-Sink Standard Water Filtration System (3US-AS01) Save 35% Off

Filtrete Under-Sink Standard Water Filtration System
  • Provides reduction of chlorine taste & odor, sand, sediment, rust, and soil.
  • Installs in less than 30 minutes and offers 6-month filter life.
  • Maintains full water flow and requires no dedicated faucet head.

I just installed one of these filters. The push-in connectors worked great. The only thing I needed was an adapter to connect the compression fitting to the flanged cut-off valve. The water flow is better than I expected. I now have filtered cold water from the kitchen faucet. Replacing the filter is simple and inexpensive. I wish I had changed to this new Filtrete filter sooner. I hated the job of replacing filters in my other water filter. In the past, I always delayed filter replacement because of the effort required. On this new unit, 1/4 turn removes the filter, and the water flow is cut off. Grab the replacement filter, 1/4 turn and water is ready for use.

Highly recommended!

I just installed this unit and it works great. Glad to be rid of my PUR faucet-mount filter. The flow rate is much improved with this unit. Installation was easy, except for an extra trip to the hardware store for a 1/2" adapter. The installation video on the 3M website was very useful.

I purchased this product after seeing the positive reviews it received. Unfortunately my purchase would not be one of them.

The filter is not difficult to setup at all (they even have a step-by-step instructional video on their web site if you need), it only took about 30 mins at the most. The issue came when turning the water on and losing water pressure after installation. The water line was cut so there was no excessive tubing to restrict water flow, so that wasn''t the issue. 3M Filtrete touted their product as one that would not lose water pressure, but yet this was the exact issue I had.

I went to their web site for support... no support to be found on their web site. So I sent an email explaining my situation... to this day (more than 4 weeks later) I have yet to receive a reply regarding my issue. I considered returning the item to Amazon, but allowed myself to become content with the pressure until I decide to buy a replacement.

So if you are able to install the filter with no issues, then sure it''s worth the purchase for the positive effects it can have on your water. But be advised, it may not work as advertised, so be prepared to send it back if you are not satisfied.

I have a lot of experience plumbing and since I have this experience I sadly have to use this knowledge.

I hate getting under a sink, but I installed this unit in conjunction with an on demand hot water unit.

Just give yourself plenty of time and draw out your design on the wall if you have to.

Yes, there are plastic parts, but they worked well for me and they are not exposed to ultra violet rays, so

they wont break down due to that and they are only used on cold water lines, so they will not crack or break

due to hot water exposure.

It was a no brainer to choose this system. I use Filtrete filters in my heating system and since I was going to

the expense of installing a hot water on demand system in my kitchen it was going to be filtered after all of that

work.

It works flawlessly and I''ve had it installed since before Christmas 2010. I wont have to change the filters as often

since I only use the on demand hot water a few times a week.

The water tastes great and you can always upgrade or downgrade filters to fit your needs.

It''s a simple install if the product came with the right parts. Typical filter lines are 1/4" compression on both sides. The adapter that comes with the product goes from a 3/8" tube to a 3/8" male. So now you have to figure out how to get from a 3/8" male pipe to a 1/4" compression. It took me a couple of trips to OSH and HD to get the right tube union which goes from 3/8" tube to 1/4" compression to get this right. So I skipped the adapter that came with the product altogether. btw the tube union that I needed is cheaper at OSH 3.99 vs 5.50 at HD. The other user error here was that I pushed the provide pipe into the filter and turned on the water and it was leaking all over the place. I then realized that I need to make sure that it is pushed all the way in. Once I did that, there were no leaks.

Filtrete Water Pitcher WP02-WH-8 Save 33% Off

Filtrete Water Pitcher WP02-WH-8, 8 CupI have tried a number of water filtering systems, and encountered frustrations with all. I''ve had it delivered, but the bottles grew algae. I''ve Brita-ed but, when left out, the container grew algae, and when kept in the refrigerator, it took up too much space. I''ve used filtering systems on the tap water (still tastes funny) and through the refrigerator filter, which gets slow very quickly. So I was not expecting any miracles here.

And while it''s not a miracle, the Filtrete Water Pitcher WP02-WH-8, 8 Cup is pretty cool. Here''s why:

1. It actually fits in your refrigerator door. Oh, I know. Right now that''s jammed with pickle relish and maraschino cherries and a half jar of chutney and some Dijon mustard and lemon curd and a stick or two of butter. But trust me. Toss the pickle relish, which would grow mold if it could, and this baby will actually fit in the door.

2. It''s easy and fast to fill. Take the top off, set it in the sink, and run a slow stream of water over it while you get out the cat food or start to empty the dishwasher. It will sit there quietly filling. Turn the water off. No waiting. The water goes through the filter quickly. Put the lid back on and put it back in the refrigerator door (where the pickle relish used to be.)

3. It handles easily. It holds a decent amount of water (8 cups, to be precise). It''s not too heavy. You can fill your kettle or your espresso machine or pour some in your crockpot or your batter. Fresh water that you don''t have to beat out of the water filter.

4. The water tastes good. I''m not a big fan of water. I''m one of those people that does not thing it is delicious. But this tastes very pure and fresh.

5. The meter is easy to read. I''ve squinted at Britas. I''ve wrestled with refrigerator filters. This one is brightly colored and not too tiny. You can see when it reaches the halfway mark. You can see when it''s time to order a new filter.

I give it a full five stars. Now if you''ll excuse me, I need to go pick up some pickle relish.

This is an okay water pitcher IMO.

It''s from the Filtrete company who is more known heating/air conditioning filters.

It works just like a Brita filter, but the replacement filters are not as easy to find in your local store.

Buy Filtrete Water Pitcher WP02-WH-8 Now

I have been getting back on the program recently, losing some weight, and eating healthy. I bought Dr Fuhrman''s Eat for Health: Lose Weight, Keep It Off, Look Younger, Live Longer (2 book set) and have made major strides. One thing I remember from a long time ago was the Stillman water diet. In it I learned that if you drank 8 glasses of water per day, whatever else you did you would lose 1 pound per week just doing that. Of course if you are on a binge and gaining weight you wouldn''t lose a pound, but you would gain 7 lbs that week instead of 8. You get the idea, drink 8 glasses of water per day and make a one pound difference weekly in your weight. So in a year, that alone would be 52 pounds difference. So I decided the only way I would know if I am getting in my 8 glasses was to have a water pitcher in the fridge, and then along comes this Filtrete Water Pitcher in an 8 cup. Ok so onto the niceties about it.

This thing is slim. So it can fit on a shelf on the door, or it can take up very little space on one of the main shelves. It does filter the water, and it does so very efficiently. That part you see sitting inside of the pitcher is a water fill tub with a filter in it. So you pop the handy rectangular cover off thereby exposing the entire water trough making it easy to fill, and also into the future easy to clean if need be. The flow rate is great. There are 4 weep holes under the fill basin so all 4 are pouring filtered water through at the same time into the base fill container. So you can bring this over to the tap, set it at a moderately slow rate, and let it fill.

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with water in the door that is filtered also but I have no way of knowing just how much water I drank that day. With this the guessing game is over. Also there are those in the medical community that prescribe no super cold fluids into your digestive system; it supposedly is not beneficial from a health standpoint. Of course even thinking about drinking room temperature water is out of the question. So I load up on the ice (which cost money to generate) and then pour the water into it. So here is another bonus; by keeping it in the refrigerator in this Filtrete pitcher you get cool refreshing water, but not so cold it is on the borderline of ice, and after your glass sits as you sip it, the temp moderates even more.

It looks good. It has a very appealing style. Kind of retro 2000. :-) If there is such a thing. In making a lightweight pitcher, they did not bury this in one inch thick plastic, so the comments about it being cheaply made are not wrong if you are looking for something to throw at the neighbor''s dog when it gets into your garden, but is of sufficient quality for cool water in the fridge purposes.

I can''t find anything wrong with it. I have had the top on and off several times, and it goes on without a whimper. The little pour cap that sits conveniently at the nose due to gravity is always ready to move out of the way when you want to make a pour. Of course buying replacement filters every month and a half goes with the territory. It says it gets rid of chlorine in the water. I have not done a scientific test to see how it compares to the Brita Pitcher systems, but I was thinking I may use the filtered water from the fridge door as a means to fill it, thereby giving me double filtration. All in all, no problems, good unit. If it gives me any reason to despair in the future, I will come back and edit this review. So far so good. Nice price, nice unit.

PS: Contrary to what I read from another reviewer, this pitcher fills up really fast. I did a spot check from empty and noticed the digital clock and it took less than two minutes but just under to fill it from the tap, so I decided to do a more exacting measurement of fill time. So I started the fill right at the begining of one minute, and at exaclty one minute and fifty-two seconds it was filled with filtered water right up to the top. You can easily fill this by turning on your tap gently, and matching the fill rate with the spigot flow, and then simply walk away. With my Brita pitchers it was always fill them up, wait until it filtered the first fill up, and then come back and refill the top tub as well. You always had to have the whole top segment of the pitcher empty that way, and that takes up more space. With the small tub on top, and simply matching the water flow is more efficient use of valuable fridge space. Mind you I think Brita pitchers are great too.

As advertised, this pitcher has an excellent "fridge friendly" size.

Others pointed out that 3M aren''t very specific what the filter, uh, filters. We get municipal water that''s clean and safe enough that it''s not much of a concern, it''s just nice to have the water taste a little better and the filter does that fine. Maybe I''m naive, but being a 3M product I have pretty good confidence in the filter.

The water runs through the filter quickly, as advertised, but the reservoir on top of the filter is pretty small, so filling the pitcher still ends up being a bit of a slow process as you can only add a little bit at a time (or have to put it under the tap with the water just running the speed of the filter). This is by far the biggest drawback.

Another reviewer had trouble with the lid not fitting on the pitcher -on ours that''s not a problem; everything is fitting together fine.

The filters are pretty expensive currently at almost $12; but maybe the price will come down when the product is more widely available?

*Update about 4 months later* We''ve grown quite fond of this pitcher; it has completely replaced our fridge water filter (electrolux/frigidaire). We can''t tell the difference between the fridge filter and this; but it''s much faster to pour a glass of water from this than from the fridge.

After some time of use the filter was sending water through faster and faster, so it got really fast to fill up. It was probably not filtering as well though, so recently we changed it for the first time (after about 4 months of regular use, probably fill it up twice a day. We were gone for a month so that''s about 180 fillings). With the new filter we''re back to the more sluggish filling speed, but it''s still way faster than a typical pitcher, it also looks nicer and we''ve gotten good at adjusting the faucet to just the right speed to fill it up while doing something else in the kitchen for a minute. I''d give it 4 stars except the filters seem so expensive (though $4/month is probably comparable in cost to our fridge filter).

Want Filtrete Water Pitcher WP02-WH-8 Discount?

The Filtrete Water Pitcher has plenty going for it. The water filters through quite quickly & the slim design saves an awful lot of space in our already crowded fridge, but it does get a bit top-heavy when it is full, so every so often there have been some spills. Handling the Filtrete when it is full takes just a bit of time to get used to. All-in-all, though, this is a fine product & very useful.

Smart Planet EC-32G 22-Ounce Eco Filtered Water Bottle Save 6% Off

Smart Planet EC-32G 22-Ounce Eco Filtered Water Bottle, Green Filter/SipperThis bottle looks great and is a good size that fits easily in the hand. The trouble is that it takes too much effort to suck the water through the filter/straw. If you tip the bottle towards you to improve water flow, the water dribbles out from the vent hole on the cap and hits you in the nose! I am returning mine after one use.

This is very useful water bottle.

I usually drink water from fountains, but I did not like the taste.

I used this water bottle for water from tap and fountains and it worked very well.

If you are looking for the water bottle with filter, I think this is very good.

I like this design, but I think that the filter color should be white.

I dont know why the people are complaining about this water bottle. My wife found this water bottle at winners last April and we have been using this water bottle so well.

I read somebody''s review and it said hard to suck and drink but even my 18 month old daughter has been using this water bottle since she was 9 month old! and there was bo problem at all.

I definately recommand this product. It''s durable much better than bubble or brita.

This is a great idea but it still needs work. It does take a little effort to get the water out, but I''m dealing with it, because we have really hard water and it tastes awful. The real problem for me is that the filter is four inches tall and has nearly four inches of holes in it, so when you''ve drunk most of the water and there are only four inches left at the bottom, the straw stops working! What on Earth, right? So dumb.

The filter really works and the water tastes 1000x better, but like I said, needs work. Also, replacement filters cost as much as I paid for the whole thing, and you can''t necessarily get the color you want, if you can find them at all!

Black & Decker DLX1050 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Black & Decker DLX1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, BlackYes, I used to have to buy those overpriced, German coffee makers--but not any more. When my latest $100 coffee maker started leaking from both the underside and from the little, unreadable, glass tube on the side, I started looking around for a replacement.

I settled on this Black and Decker model because it does everything the high-priced models do, but at a quarter of the price. After three weeks, the clock still keeps excellent time, the machine still comes on when I''m sound asleep so that I wake up to coffee ready to drink. The coffee tastes very good (c''mon, drip coffee is drip coffee--and I am STILL a coffee snob) and is certainly hot enough. The coffee maker is absolutely EASY to program; each button serves but one function. Aside from the fact that it doesn''t LEAK, it seems I lose power here with disturbing regularity, so I like to be able to set the clock and the timer easily and quickly and feel assured that I''ll have coffee when I wake up.

What I don''t miss about the old coffee maker: leaks, erratic, confusing programming and multiple functions for one button, default ON for auto coffee making (and there''s no way to turn it OFF), special little (hard to find) charcoal filter gizmo, adjustable temperature settings on the hot plate, and did I mention LEAKS.

What I miss about the old coffee maker: ability to change length of time the hot plate stays hot, "CALC" calcium warning. Both of which are easy to overcome. If I want two more hours of hot plate all I do is hit the "power" button; if I want to decalcify my machine, all I have to do is run a load of vinegar through on the solstices and equinoxes.

I picked out this coffee maker because of a reasonable price and was a recommended best buy in Consumers Report magazine. I have only had a week or so and can''t address long term reliability. What it does do is NOT DRIP! It does not drip when pouring from the glass pot to the water reservoir or when pouring coffee into a cup. I do NOT have to be extra careful when pouring. It also stops the coffee flow from the filter as soon as I pull the pot out and does NOT drip on the warmer. Again, do NOT have to be extra careful here. It also does NOT leak condensation out of the water reservoir top when lifting the lid. The condensation on the reservoir lid drips back into the reservoir when the lid is lifted. The time and delay brew functions ARE easy to set and work fine. The coffee brewed fairly quickly and did not overflow the filter to allow grounds into the pot. So far, I am very happy with a product that someone spent some time making user friendly and practical. This is a well engineered inexpensive product.

This is, far and away, the best coffee maker I''ve ever bought. My previous was a Mr. Coffee, and the caraffe dribbled everywhere almost every time. This caraffe pours perfectly every time. The controls are so intuitive, I''ve yet to pull out the instructions. It brews a full 12 cups in 10 to 15 minutes. And the coffee is sooo delicious. Don''t waste your time looking at other machines. Buy this one.

I purchased this model over 10 years ago. It looks a lot like the new one except they have updated the lines. I just purchased the new model because after 10 years the hot pad only keeps the coffee warm and not hot but the first cup is always hot. Every feature still works on this machine except for the stop brew, to pour when brewing. That is because we removed it since we have broke several carafes over the years. I considered purchasing a fancier machine but figured why mess with a good thing. We have never had any problems. We love the timer and the coffee has always been great. I love coffee and feel like our Black & Decker has served us well and I will be sad to through it away. I know the new one will serve us equally well.

Bought this maker to replace another one of the same that the keypad died on. We had this one for 9 months and it suddenly stopped brewing. Luckily, I had the receipt so I called Black and Decker and they told me to cut off the plug and mail it to them with a check for $7.50 and they''ll send a replacement in 2 weeks. The problem I have with this is that, it is OBVIOUSLY a manufacturing defect that caused it to die, and nothing that we did, so I have to now go 2 weeks without a coffeemaker and pay $7.50 + $2.00 to send them the plug. I feel if it is a problem that is covered under warranty, then they should pay expedited shipping to get me a replacement ASAP. The brew temperature isn''t hot enough, it''s lukewarm at best. Also, the hot pad has been rusting for a few months now. Never had THAT happen on a coffee maker before.

Seven Plate KYK Genesis Home Water Filter and Ionizer

Seven Plate KYK Genesis Home Water Filter and IonizerOrdered KYK Harmony Home Water Filter and Ionizer. Received an email that day stating the product is on back-order for two weeks. The seller Water for Life USA stated that they will upgrade the order to the KYK Genesis water ionizer for free (this system has better filtration and ionization, more features)if I wanted. I said sure, and thanks. Received the order in a couple of days. My wife and I are extremely happy with the purchase. I did approximately twenty hours of research on all the Ionizer(s) Why? They are expensive. If you look at how KYK developed the unit with the features and history and the company that marketed this product you have a win, win.

I personally have this unit and bought it from Henna Hut. Those people are awesome and it was a pleasure to do business with them. They answered all of my questions and the low price was the icing on the cake. sure prices vary on shipping, but at 1525.00 I also got free filters and installation kit. Culligan IC-100A Level 1 Icemaker and Refrigerator Dispenser Drinking Water Filter

  • Reduces bad taste and odor and chlorine taste and odor
  • Easy installation and compact design
  • Includes 1/4-inch compression fittings
  • 2,500-gallon capacity or 12-months

I have used this filter in the past and ordered two replacements. This time, however, I was sent the Culligan IC-100A instead of the Culligan IC-100. The difference is, as I can clearly see on the boxes, the A does not contain the two fittings (adapters) that I need. Make sure that you receive the correct product before you put this away for future use (as I was going to do.) My order and my receipt both say IC-100 (no A) and since there doesn''t seem to be a way to directly talk to Amazon or e-mail them, I''m just returning these. Problem is that in searching for the correct product on the internet, all links go back to Amazon -the Amazon cosmic loop.

I''ve been using this filter model for two years. I''m on my second unit. It works about the same as other inline filters I''ve used with regard to taste of the water. It seems not to last as long, but maybe my waster quality has changed, but it lasts long enough considering the price. I do like the quick connect fitting system. My filter is located in an awkward location, and not having to snug up compression fitting anymore to copper tubing is a big help.

I''ve read other reviews comment on black particles. You have to flush out the filter before you hook up the outlet end to your refrigerator. Just like any other filter. Maybe a gallon at most. I just do it until I don''t see black particles coming out. The instructions say to do this as well, but I think it says to use more water. That''s just CYA though.

I bought a two-pack for my Sub-Zero refrigerator. The older water filters used to come with brass nuts on each end but these new ones come with plastic ones. I over tightened and cracked the first one. This is probably my fault but would not have happened with brass nuts. Luckily, they come in pairs, so I installed the second filter without any problems. Next time, If I have a choice, I will choose a filter that is made with quality parts.

Russell Hobbs RH13552 Ellora 1-2/3-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Save 30% Off

Russell Hobbs RH13552 Ellora 1-2/3-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric KettleThis is a great kettle. I''ve used plastic electric kettles for years but with concern about plastics in the food chain, I purchased this kettle. The design makes the kettle very stable on the counter. Wiping the kettle down with a microfiber cloth will keep the brushed stainless finish looking fine. Instructions say not to use vinegar to remove scale that builds up in the kettle. I do it anyway as I have done in all kettles I''ve owned. Boil 1 part vinegar and 5 parts water in the kettle, let it rest for awhile, pour it off and boil a pot of plain water to get rid of vinegar and scale residue and kettle will run quietly and efficiently. Enjoy!

Severe disappointment. This is the second of this model in less than 12 months on which the on/off switch has gone faulty. It''s not true ''Russell Hobbs'' like the old British days -that name was sold off. If you boil water only two or three times a day, this might serve. I use it an average of once every hour to 90 minutes, and the switch is not up to the job.

It''s a relatively quiet, fast boiler, and is a handsome brushed steel finish. Be aware that the lid is a bit too snug, so you may need to adjust the tangs that hold the thing on (use needlenose pliers). It''s attractive enough and stable on the base. To keep the inside clean, empty out the unit and stand it upside down with the lid off, overnight.

The fact that it''s made in China is not itself a negative. It seems that most electric kettles, cordless or otherwise, do not live up to the reputation of their predecessors.

Want Russell Hobbs RH13552 Ellora 1-2/3-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Discount?

After reading the reviews of many other electric kettles I decided on this unit being that it was constructed of stainless steel and had minimal plastic. In just under a year, the kettle has developed an electrical fault making it useless the final straw for this poor quality product. Material is stated as stainless steel but you have to remember that there a various qualities of stainless and this kettle clearly falls short of using anything of quality: my kettle has developed rust on the inside! I could understand it if I was doing something crazy like boiling sea water but this is regular household water I''m using. If the supposed ''stainless steel'' is corroded by household water it makes me wonder what type of blend of metal they really used and if any chemicals have been leaching into the water for the last year.

I remember Russell Hobbs as being a quality brand (the sort where a kettle by them would last 20 years) but reading some other reviews it seems that the name was sold off and people like myself are ending up purchasing something that, in my opinion, is of extremely poor and dubious quality.

These last about 6 months in my house. The water gets a dusty dirty taste to it when I go too long without replacing them. Use a pre-filter like this as a beginning of any water filtration system. I also have a softener, carbon and R/O filter. This pre-filter lets the other filters last much much longer. It reduces staining and sediment buildup in all plumbing and in the laundry.

White BottleLess Countertop Water Purification Cooler with 1,200-Gallon capacity water filtration and installation kit. From BottleLess Direct. Dispenses Hot & Cold water.I just installed it. I will update this review in the future if it is necessary.

Very happy in the first day, one gallon of could water and 1 litter of hot. I tried to prepare my oat meal direct from hot water''s dispenser, 5 min later ready to eat.

It was Sunday afternoon when I installed it, water was not going in the tank, check the web site, clicked on chat now, some one answered, told me to lock the filter, I tried, rotating clockwise, and that was it. I was very surprised to get an answer on a Sunday 5PM.

The only think I did not like is the connection from the cold water pipe, they send you a small faucet that punches the pipe, and I drove to HomeDepo and bought a 3 /8 "T (male, female) with a 1 /4 exit. It is the same as refrigerator ice pipe. I did it under the sink, removed the flexible hose, that goes to foucet, added the "T", connected the flexy hose, connected my pipe. Done.

Thank you

BISSELL Steam Mop Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner Save 34% Off

BISSELL Steam Mop Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner, 31N1After hearing wonderful things about steam mops from my friends, I starting doing research on them. I was anxious to retire my Swiffer which, as a mop, was better than nothing, but it left my dark hardwood floors streaky and I felt like I was just pushing the dirt around on the ceramic tile in my kitchen. I borrowed my neighbor''s Shark and after using it one time knew that I wanted a different mop. I was excited to see this new model from Bissell as I had narrowed it down to a Bissell or the Eureka Enviro-Steam. so I decided on the Bissell. The Bissell 31N1 was easy to put together, and includes a hanger so that you can hang your steam mop for storage. I used distilled water since it is supposed to prolong the life of the filter it comes with. The pads are substantial and easy to attach and stay in place while mopping. The unit took a little while to warm up but has an indicator light to tell you when it is ready. In use I saw hot steam pouring out which was great. The floors stayed wet for a while after use, but just like what happens when you mop a floor. I think I was trigger happy so I probably won''t hit the steam button as much next time and try to spread the steam around a little bit better. I did dry the hardwoods after I used it as a precaution and that was fine. I was disappointed to see my hardwood floors were still streaking but a neighbor told me that once all of the other floor cleaners come off the floor (after I continue to use my steam mop), the streaks will go away. I hope so. A cleaning person I used sprayed furniture polish on the hardwoods (argh!) so it might be a while. I still think the floors are wonderfully clean and the mop is easy to swivel around and use with the cord being a nice length. I didn''t have water leak on the floor like the other reviewer but perhaps that is because I removed the water tank immediately after use not sure. I think you would be happy with this mop. I clean up after a 2 and 4 year old so life is good now.

I feel the need to write this review because of all the crazy reviews I read while trying to decide if I wanted a steam mop, and which kind. I always seek reviews in a variety of places when I''m considering a new purchase, and this is the ONLY product I have ever been so confused about. The reviews are insane! They seem mostly to be written by people with muddy feet, 6 dogs, and they mop twice a day. Those same people also seem to want to feel comfortable serving dinner directly off the floor. That is NOT me. I keep a tidy home; I have 2 little girls, no pets; I mop when necessary (I''ll go 2 or 3 weeks if I can get away with it); and we typically dine at the table.

So, here is my review: The Bissell Deluxe Steam Mop works great. I love that I do not have to deal with dirty mop water and measuring chemicals. The cord seems plenty long enough, and my rooms are large and extra large. It takes a few seconds to warm up, and a few more seconds to get the steam to the mop head...which is perfectly fine with me. It gets my floor lightly wet, less than my traditional mop because I was never patient enough to ring it out thoroughly. If I come across yucky-dried-on-the-floor food, I hold the steam mop over it for a few seconds (no more than 15), run it back and forth a few times over the area, and the floor is clean. I don''t hold the steam button down the entire time I clean, but off and on as necessary. The longer you hold it, the more water it uses. So, depending on the type of cleaner you are, and the type of junk on your floor, the water may need to be refilled. My steam mop came with two washable pads that are easy to put on, pull off, and throw in the washing machine. So, basically, in my opinion, the steam mop that I bought at Target (on sale for $89 and their promotion gave me a gift card of $20 with the purchase) a few weeks ago is MUCH better than a traditional mop.

Other things to note:

-Get one with a removable water tank so that it''s easy to fill.

-I''m sure all of the Steam Mops work just fine. Unless you expect a miracle, of course. It''s just a mop. It''s still work. Just find one that suits your tastes and price range.

-My one year old is allergic to milk and peanuts, and that is why I looked into a steam mop. She''s also the child guilty of causing carrots, peas, and greenbeans to dry like concrete on the tile floor.

-I would have given the Bissell Deluxe Steam Mop 5 Stars IF it was a robot and all I had to do was push a button. But the mopping robots are too expensive and have horrible reviews. Again, this steam mop works great.

-My home has hardwood floors and ceramic tile floors.

-I like that the steam mop head turns and bends to fit under and around ANYTHING. Impressive.

-I probably could eat off my floors in the few seconds after steam mopping. I still wouldn''t. And I don''t require that from my mop.

Just a note: I have a iRobot Roomba vacuuming robot. I can''t imagine life without it. It does require emptying the bin and cleaning off the rollers after almost every use, but it works AMAZING and saves a ton of time and effort with cleaning. I run it several times a week.

Well I bought one of these from ABCVACUUM in Austin Tx yesterday for 89.95. I got it today.

I couldn''t wait to try it out. Anything that looks this good on TV usually isn''t.

First some facts. I''m a guy and I''m 65 and a widower. It''s me and the dogs and the linoleum floor in my kitchen is about 50+ years old and the old spoonge wet mop just wasn''t cuttin it.

Well, I put this thing together and plugged it in. It doesn''t have an on/off switch. You wait for the red light to come on which doesn''t take long and then pull the trigger and start mopping.

The first thing I noticed was it was hard to push on the old floor, but since I lift weights I decided this was just a new form of exercise that I could get something out of besides muscle tone. The next thing I noticed was the dirt came off the floor. It didn''t take me very long and the kitchen was done and next time it should be even quicker since it''s much cleaner now.

If you are slight and weak you''re not gonna like this on the kind of floor that I have because it''s hard to push around. It may work easier on a wood floor.

Second they give you enough liquid for two uses and then you need to get your own. I have really hard water so I''m skipping the tap water and going with distilled water from the start otherwise I think I would be buying a lot of filtration systems.

I''ve got a closet full of Dust Devils and other stuff that doesn''t work but this thing works good. Now if it will just last.

This review is for the Model 31N1 series.

I just purchased the Bissell Steam Mop Deluxe today and couldn''t wait to get home to try it out. I vacuumed first, then put it together (pretty easy!). I decided to try out the eucalyptus distilled water that came with it. I was surprised to see that this is the water you use INSTEAD of tap water -not as an additive. It has a nice but very faint smell, and I really wouldn''t waste money buying more when this is gone.

The unit took several minutes to get the water/steam to the mop head for the first time. I think there is only one tiny hole on the bottom of the head where the steam comes out, but after a few pulls of the trigger on the handle, the mop pad gets plenty wet. In fact, I would say that you should only pull the steam trigger when you want more wetness or when you have a particularly tough spot to get off the floor. If you keep the trigger pulled continually for steam, your floors are going to get quite wet.

My floors did get pretty wet anyway -I will try calling for less steam next time and see if the floors will dry faster that way. I didn''t see any streaking while the floors were wet, but after they dried there was a bit. No more than with a mop though. I liked the fact that I knew my floors didn''t have any cleaner residue after they were dry but they really didn''t feel any different than when I use my old mop.

The thing I like least about this steam mop is that after you''re done and you take off the mop pad (nice pads, by the way), you need to stand the mop on a folded towel or something because water continues to slowly leak out of the mop head. You surely don''t want to leave the mop standing even for a few minutes on any kind of wood floor or you will have water stains.

When I read back on this review, it sounds like I''m not crazy about this mop. In reality, I''m not sure. I think there is probably a little bit of a learning curve here, and I believe that after I have used it a few more times I will learn how not to get the floor so wet and how to store it quickly without leaving a puddle. As for the specifics of the mop, the cord was plenty long enough for me -20 ft. The head swivels but it''s not like driving a race car, if you know what I mean. It''s not small and maneuverable enough to get all the way behind my toilet. Two mop head pads are included and they are very nice and machine washable. The unit feels sturdy enough to last a long time. With this deluxe unit there is also a "glider" type tray that you can put over the mop pad and "refresh" your carpets or rugs. I don''t know how this refreshes anything. It is going to make your rug damp and unless your carpets are already really clean, it seems to me that it will just make it smell. I haven''t used this attachment though, so maybe I''m wrong.

I have only used this on ceramic tile floors -not wood or Pergo type floors. I think it would be too wet for my wood floors, which just have a satin finish.

In conclusion, I don''t know if this steam mop it cleans any better than a regular mop, but it''s more fun and maybe faster. No emptying buckets of mop water, which is nice! It''s a lot to pay for what is essentially not much more than just a wet mop (although the water that makes it wet is hot!), but maybe I''ll mop more which will help make it worth the price.

UPDATE: It is now August 2012, and I''m still using my Bissell steam mop. I may not use it as much as some people since I only have my husband and myself at home to dirty things up, but it still works fine. I have wondered the last couple times I mopped if I was getting less steam than I used to. I think so, but it is enough to get the job done, although I still don''t think it gets your floors any cleaner than a regular mop. The mop head covers have held up well, and I just throw them in the wash occasionally or else rinse them out by hand just before I use the mop. I think it works best if you dampen the mop head covers first before using them anyway. I never notice water leaking from the mop head when I''m finished anymore. I just remove the cover and stand it up against a wall (on tiled floor) when I''m done until it is fully cool. I also make sure I empty the water reservoir after each use.

Just recently purchased a Bissell 3 in 1 steam mop after much research. I had a Shark steam mop for the last couple of years which I loved but wanted something I didn''t have to pump for steam and a sturdier build. Out of the box the Bissell is a beauty and everything I wanted in a steam mop. Very sturdy and well built. The cord seemed a bit heavier than it needed to be for a 1500 watt, same as my Shark. The cord is also two feet shorter than the Shark''s 20'' cord. I couldn''t wait to start! Then disappointment seeped in. The little bit of steam coming from the Bissell didn''t seem like it could possibly clean my floors but I have to say it maneuvered nicely and fit under all the cabinets. I started on the hard linoleum floors and then made my way downstairs to the tile floors.

Just like so many of the reviews I had read I noticed the floors were way to wet but went in choosing to ignore what many reviews had complained about. I was willing to wait for floors to dry.

As my floors were drying the streaking and spotting started to appear. Not to noticeable on the linoleum floors but as the tiled floors dried they looked dirtier than before I had mopped them and they didn''t feel clean like when I used my Shark. Then the ultimate disappointment. I took the pad off the mop and even though it was soaking wet it wasn''t very dirty. As a rule when I''m done mopping the pad is quite dark. Dismayed I got out my Shark and went over the floors again. I noticed that the steam was so much more than the Bissell which in turn left minimal water on the floor and the drying time was 5-7 minutes compared to the 20 plus with the Bissell. Now for the last but most important test. I took the pad off the Shark and yes my floors really had been

dirty. It was all there on the bottom of the Shark pad. I realized then that the Bissell just doesn''t put out the steam needed to clean my floors and even though I loved the looks of the Bissell I really need a mop that will clean. I would give the Bissell three stars but only for the build of the mop. If I graded the Bissell on the way it worked there would be no stars because it just doesn''t work which in my opinion is rather unfortunate.

Euro-Pro Shark S3601 Professional Steam Pocket Mop Save 7% Off

Euro-Pro Shark S3601 Professional Steam Pocket MopTitle says it all -I love it! Easy to use, heats up quickly and does a great job at cleaning. I used to have the Eureka Enviro Steamer (yellow) which was bulky and did not a good job of getting into corners and up along the edges of the floor. The Shark glides along and reaches under cabinets and the lip of the stove and refrigerator. I love the pad for the professional vs. the deluxe Shark. The professional pad has little "fingers" all over it which does a super job of cleaning the toughest dirty floors. I have two toddler boys who spill everything on the floor. This machine has saved my life!

So here''s the deal. I''ve read just about every review there is on every floor steamer that exists. I''ve used old school mops, swiffer wet jet (useless) and even hands/knees with sponges and magic erasers. After my first use, i stared at the floors and was a bit disappointed. However, after really looking at the floor under bright natural light, I realized that all the streaks I was seeing were a result off all the old pinesol/swiffer/orange glo/pledge I was blasting off my hardwoods. With this in mind, I conceded to a double scrubbing and was pretty happy with the results. Now that I''ve used the steam mop a couple of times, I''m amazed with how clean/non-sticky my floors are. While The first few times may have been a bit more time consuming, i now find that my mopping time is literally 1/4 of what it used to be. Maybe even more impressive is that I''ve found myself mopping the floor at least every other week whereas it used to be put off to a once every other month, with spot treatments as needed. To address some of the concerns, yes, you do have to vacuum first, and if there''s a huge mud clot on the floor you''re going to have to scrape off the bulk. I''d say for the price it can''t be beat.

I''ve been looking for a floor cleaner that would clean the crevasses in my stone flooring. Heavy machines hurt my back for weekly cleaning, small automatic cleaners that use pads and spray chemicals don''t get into the deeper portions of the floor. Also, I don''t like drying the floor with an additional towel so we can walk on it right away.

So when I saw a commercial for this product I thought "what the heck" and bought it. I thought that it would be fine for daily dusting, but had my doubts that it would clean that well, and figured the pads would become prohibitively expensive, but I had to try it.

I can''t comment on the pads as yet, but one pad worked well for all three areas, and is still not too dirty to use on the other side next time, but I do tend to clean my floor regularly. An especially dirty floor might need more than one pad.

It''s easy to assemble, heated up quickly, comes with an extra long cord so you can clean more at one time without unplugging, and the hot steam lasted through the bathroom, dining area, and kitchen.

I had it on the scrub cycle through the entire cleaning just to test how long the water in the reservoir would last. When I was done, I had 1/4 of a tank full left, which was better than I expected! (call me Doubting Thomasina)

I have two small parrots and their droppings are notoriously hard to clean up; usually I have to use a paint scraper on the dried stuff. This cleaned it up easily, and cleaned even in the deepest crevasses.

The floor was immediately ready to walk on, and it''s squeaky clean... literally, my bare feet squeak on it, and the floor glows.

I would highly suggest this product, make sure you use it as instructed, and use only filtered or distilled water in the tank so you don''t leave hard water residue on the floor.

I got this mop on sale at Costco a couple of months ago. The first couple of times that I tried using it, I was disappointed. I set the mop to the heaviest "scrub" setting, and it still wasn''t getting up even small spots on the floor. If I hovered over the spot for 45 seconds to a minute, it might start coming off... but it was disappointing and time consuming to say the least. The third time I used the mop, I decided to dampen the mop head with warm tap water before starting to scrub. Wow! It made a huge difference!! And my floors ended up spotless and squeaky clean (and the mophead completely saturated with dirt on both sides)! Get the mop head wet, and you won''t be disappointed! (unless of course you want to clean your floors without getting them wet, but in my opinion, that just isn''t possible ;)

I got my mop around 3 weeks ago and have used it 2-3 times so far. I like it better then the regular steam mop because the water tank opening is facing upwards istead of on the side of the machine and makes filling it easy, it produces automatic steam instead of having to pump the handle and has 3 different levels of steam for dusting, mopping and scrubbing. The pads it comes with are different from the regular mop but the old mop pads fit on this one also so I can reuse all the extras I bought instead of having to buy more. It does pretty well on my ceramic tile floors and picks up most of the spills and dirt spots. The only problem is any hair or larger items on the floor wont stick so you have to vacuum or sweep before which I have the pet vacuum for hard floors that is quick and works well on my floors. I really love that is doesnt use any chemicals because I have 2 dachshunds which are low to the ground and 70% of my house is tile so that is a lot of floor to clean and makes the chances of them getting sick from a cleaning product much higher. It''s very quick and leaves the floor mostly dry and no stickyness. I originally bought this one because my regular steam mop broke after only having it for less than a year. I really loved my old mop but this one is even better and I hope they have worked out the problems from the old mop so I can keep it for more then a year. Other thanthat I think this mop is great and so far I love it.

I grew up in the country and really hate the taste of chlorine-ish city water. For years I have always installed a filter of some kind on the cold feed line in my kitchen sink so I have good-tasting drinking water. The only problem is that the filters can be such a pain to change. This style is a life-saver. Turn off the feed valve, pop the old filter off, put the new filter on, turn the water back on, and flush for a bit. It literally takes a couple minutes... in fact the longest part is probably the time it takes for me to take the crap out from under my sink so I can get at the line!

Very easy to replace, you just unscrew the old one and screw in the new on, with one easy twist. They last longer than you would think. The current one I have has been in use for 9 month, still no loss of water pressure.

Excellent filter system. Instructions give you a reminder sticker for 6 months. In my case, since it''s just my wife & I, it lasted much longer.
