MWF Hotpoint Filter Cartridge

MWF Hotpoint Filter Cartridge
  • Replacement for MXRC, FXRT, FXRC, WR97X10006 and 46-9905 when used with an adaptor
  • Fits Hotpoint HWF
  • Reduces cysts, sediment, lead, chlorine taste and odor
  • For best performance replace your filter every 6 months

I recently purchased this cartridge along with an adapter to replace an old metal FXRC cartridge in a used fridge I just bought. It fit perfectly (with the adapter in place on the top), and after running through a quart or so of water to clean it up I''ve been using it for a month or so now with no issues. The water tastes very good, as does the ice. I live in the AZ desert so it gets a lot of use. Good product, does what it says...

Looked good when compared to Watts Premier RO unit but when completed it leaked at a few points where the inner stems were missing. However the vendor responded promptly by sending the new rubber gasket and also the inner stems for containing the leaks.

Selected 5 Stage Ion Exc. Filter 8 pck By Zero Technologies

Selected 5 Stage Ion Exc. Filter 8 pck By Zero TechnologiesWe have been using ZeroWater ZD-023 23-Cup Water Dispenser and Filtration System since we moved three years ago. These filters remove the TDS (total dissoluble solids) from our drinking water. It is frightening what is considered safe. Straight from the tap this morning our city water read 461 TDS, water from our dispenser read zero. The design of these filters is amazing. They remove what our prior water purifying pitcher systems did not. We take zero water with us when we travel for the health and well being of our family.

We love our Zero Water. We are unable to drink our city water and we love this. The filters are so much cheaper this way.

Beckett Corporation Waterfall Kit Save 61% Off

Beckett Corporation Waterfall Kit, ResinThis waterfall kit is perfect! The hose connects easily to the waterfall and the pump. It comes with a hose clamp, but I didn''t need it. It also comes with a pond liner. My waterfall has been up and running for a month now and I love it.

I did put the pump inside a filter box with some foam to filter the water before it enters the pump. The pump intake is covered by a plastic grate, but could easily take in larger particles and become clogged if you don''t pre-filter the water a little first.

I purchased this kit for the waterfall.. I had been looking for quite some time. The price beat out everyone else. The waterfall is a nice feature..relatively natural looking, really simple to install. I shared the pump and liner with my sister as I didn''t need them, but my experience with Beckett products has been good.

The Beckett Waterfall Kit blends in perfectly.

I smeared the whole outside of the resin Waterfall with cement and then wiped-off most of it with a damp sponge. With the cement in the cracks it will give you a very realistic look.

Instead of using the liner, we used a black PVC cattle water basin.

You can not beat the value and quality of this Beckett Waterfall Kit !!!

The natural stone, 3" thick concrete slab, water basin, Ceramic tiles and Beckett Waterfall kit was less than $500.

We were quoted almost $2500 by a local landscaping company ...

Adds an extra touch to our pond. Looks great and loved all the accessories that came with it to make a lil river. I cleaned it a few times but if you take out the filter it runs a lot better.

Years later this little waterfall is still in operation. Although I did have to replace the pump after about a year. I would recommend getting some kind of prefilter for the pump to keep out extra debris. Mine would have lasted longer if I would have had something like that.

Blueair 203 GO SMOKESTOP Air Purifier

Blueair 203 GO SMOKESTOP Air PurifierI purchased this air purifier because one of my children suffers from allergies. We now run the Blueair 203 air purifier 24/7 and it really has been a remarkable aid for my son whose sniffling is almost a thing of the past and whose rashes are virtually gone!

It''s very quiet so it can operated throughout the night without disturbing sleep and it''s an attractive unit. So, it''s quiet, it''s attractive, and it works really well; for that I give it five stars! I wish I had purchased an air purifier sooner. I may even purchase another one for our living room!

This is the second BlueAir air cleaner I have purchased. The first was a 500 series cleaner, which I love. I decided to add a second, smaller, BlueAir for the bedroom. These cleaners are attractive, easy to operate and make the air in my apartment much cleaner. The replacement filters (every 6 months) are expensive, but if you want clean air, it is worth the cost.

Without a doubt, the Blue Air 203 is the best air purifier I''ve owned! Because my daughter has eczema, I''ve installed a number of purifiers throughout our house. Some good, some not-so-good. But, the Blue Air surpasses all of them. It''s quiet and solidly built (made mostly of steel, not plastic). When you run it on low, you can barely hear it. And, its been on 24 hours a day, with no problems. So, once again, it gets my thumbs-up!

I''m in that small percentage of people sensitive to the foul slow-curing plastics entrenched in this industry and in small electric heaters. More about that later. Charcoal comes in various shades and grades. I don''t know the specifics. They use coconut shell charcoal here which emits a faint odor of toasted coconut shell (which is not the

same as toasted coconut). The odor does not bother me, but I thought it should be mentioned. I am not a smoker.

Note that HEPA filters without charcoal can be used in this unit. The new filter weighed 3LBS. and likely contains

the 2LBS. of charcoal stated. I feel I''m getting a lot more filter for my money than I did with my Oreck air cleaner. When I first set up the unit the VOC''s made me uncomfortable (the maker refers to this as "newness").

I decided to take a chance and keep the unit because it is so well constructed and seems to be intelligently

designed (as opposed to clever). It reminds me of sturdy products from the 1970''s. As one seller put it "this is not a piece of plastic junk that will end up in a landfill in a couple years". My situation wants manual control.

I like the simple 3-speed switch and absence of pseudo-innovation and digital BS.

I opted to try slow-cure: removed, wrapped & stored the filter. Placed the unit where air would circulate thru it, but not get dirty. Then I forgot about it for 5 months until my old electrostatic Oreck finally burned out. The

Oreck made nice quality air, but not quantity and was low rated. When I reassembled the Blue Air unit the VOC''s

had dropped to a tolerable level and I had a GOOD air cleaner! I consider the unit to be pretty quiet considering

the volume of air moving and the noise is unobtrusive and relatively "white". I like the modest ionic charge it

imparts. I covered the Bright blue light as others did. Important questions about longevity, serviceability and

whether or not the replacement filters are like the original have yet to be answered. Big thanks to Amazon for providing this great reviews department which is editable and encourages customer discussion. Reviews at other seller''s sites are often obviously filtered. Yes, I recommend this unit.

I would rate this product a 3.5. It doesn''t remove as much odor as I would have liked and it is a bit noisy on the higher levels. The filters are very easy to change but seem somewhat expensive. Looks attractive and works adequately. Not too disappointed since I''ve bought two of these.

Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier Save 28% Off

Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air PurifierI have tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best I have tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room. Here''s why I bought it. I wanted an air cleaner for a medium to small sized room where I keep my cat''s litter box. Normally, it doesn''t smell, but about the day it''s time to change it, I can smell it. Now, I don''t want to smell it ever, though I keep my kitty box schedule in tact. Anyway, this air cleaner is so quiet on Whisper Mode that I literally cannot hear it.It''s a great item and i''m extremely happy with it.

Compact, quiet and does the job. Hasn''t been turned off since I purchased it the middle of December and it runs great! The room smells better and I think my allergies aren''t as bad. Have only had to clean the filter once and it was very easy, just popped the front cover off and ran the vacumn over the two filters.

Would definitely purchase again.

This unit was pretty easy to put together. Make sure you install the carbon filters. I didn''t realize after reading the description that you do have to pay for replacement carbon filters which are what help remove odor. I know the unit says "pet" in the title but I think this has the same design as their allergy-reducing unit (model 04383) this one is 04384, so I want to assume it''s nearly the same but newer. This is simply speculation; nonetheless, it''s cleared up odor and dust.

Read Best Reviews of Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier Here

Bottom line: A very nice performing air cleaner for the price and has reasonably priced replacement filters. It''s virtually the same as the Allergen-Reducing model except that this one comes with carbon filters for odor reduction. This model is the better choice if you are looking to reduce odors as well as dust.

Full review:

I needed an air cleaner for my office to help get rid of the smell of smoke (been cutting back, but still can''t kick the habit). I''ve been using a Holmes air cleaner than helps, but the office is big enough than a second one was needed.

I saw this and the Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner and could not determine from looking at them what the difference was (other than a price difference). After doing some research on the Hamilton Beach web site it appears they are exactly the same except that the Pet model has the ability to use a replaceable carbon filter in front of the HEPA filter.

The unit itself is nicely designed, and I very much like that it can be used either upright or on its side. It comes with a base plate if you want to use it upright. The plate comes off easily (no tools) so you can position it on its side. It includes 4 non-slip foot pads to keep it stable when it is sitting on its side.

The unit looks very nice. It has a three speed fan. On the lowest speed I can''t hear it at all. Granted, it''s not moving much air either. The mid speed is still soft enough that I can keep it close to my desk and not have the sound be irritating or interfere with a phone call. At the high speed it is still quiet enough that I can have a conversation next to it without any problem, but the sound is grating to have in the background constantly.

The main filter is what Hamilton Beach terms "HEPA-grade." That often means that it is not a true HEPA filter, so it won''t pull out the really small stuff out of the air. But it appears up to the task of basic air cleaning.

Hamilton Beach boasts that the HEPA filter is "permanent." While you can extend the life of the filter by vacuuming it, nothing is permanent. It will need to be replaced eventually, especially if you''re using the cleaner for odor control as I am.

It also has a very thin prefilter than can be cleaned. The only purpose of the prefilter is to trap the real big chunks, such as visible dust from a litter pan.

The carbon filters go on top of the HEPA filter. Each is about half the length of the HEPA filter, and are held in place with snap-in plastic bars. You need 2 carbon filters per use. It comes with 2 and the cost of replacements is not too bad about $12 for a pack of 3. Remember, you need 2 filters, so a 3 pack will only last 1.5 changes. They claim the carbon filter will last for 90 days. They offer standard carbon filters, pet carbon filters, and smoke-eater carbon filters. (I''ll take the cynical view and assume that there really isn''t any significant difference between them other than how they are marketed.) You can also buy generic carbon filters (search on Amazon for Universal Carbon Filters) and cut them to size to save even more on the filter cost. The quality of the generics can be hit or miss, however.

It comes with a rather novel way to remember to change the carbon filter. It''s easy to use but hard to explain there''s a disk that you press, and it creates a red line that slowly expands over the course of 3 months. So, when the red line is full, it''s time to replace the filter. I''ve not had this for 3 months so I can''t speak to how accurate a time keeper the red line is, but it''s a nice idea.

So, does it work well? I think so. It has cut down the smoke smell. Not completely, but it''s doing a better job than other air cleaners I''ve used, some of which cost a lot more. Now, its intended task is for pet smells. If it can handle smoke, it certainly can put a dent in kitty litter odor (as a multi-cat household, I know first-hand what that can be like as well). Plus, the fan noise at the low speed is so soft that it certainly would not bother a cat even if the air cleaner was placed right next to the litter box. The mid speed might bother some cats, but only if it was right next to their box.

While this is not a hospital-grade air cleaner it is an effective way to drop the smell level down affordably and quietly, plus get rid of dust and some pollen/allergens. I''ll give it 5 stars based on it''s price-performance level and the fact that replacement filters don''t cost an arm and a leg.

Want Hamilton Beach TrueAir Compact Pet Air Purifier Discount?

I have two air purifiers in my apartment. This one from Hamilton Beach is set up in my office, and I have another, larger air purifier from another brand set up in the much larger open living room/dining room/kitchen area. When I use the other air purifier, the air actually seems cleaner. The apartment feels less stuffy and the air actually smells better, fresher. When I use this air purifier in my home office, I can''t tell the difference. The room still feels stuffy to me and it still smells the same to me. If I bring the other air purifier into the office, then I can feel/smell the difference within only a few minutes. There were a few positives though. This air purifier is very compact, so it is very unobtrusive in my office. Additionally it is very quiet, especially on the "Whisper Clean" mode. I can''t even hear it over my desktop computer. On the other settings, it''s a bit louder (especially on "Quick Clean" mode), but it''s still not overbearing...it sounds like a floor-standing/table fan. Overall though, I was pretty disappointed with this air purifier as I really don''t feel like it''s making a difference.

Aqua-Pure AP817 Water Filter Replacement Cartridge, 25 Micron Rating
  • Granular activated carbon reduces chlorine taste and odors
  • For use in whole-house water filter for larger homes and commercial applications
  • Filter media also reduces particulate and rust for clearer water
  • High-capacity cartridge lasts up to six months before replacement
  • Helps protect plumbing and fixtures

I use these in my whole house dual water filtration system. They work great to remove chlorine from the water. I think Amazon has the best price on these. The only water not going through these is the lawn sprinkler water so they last at least a year. By having two of these in parallel the pressure at the tap is not reduced at all.

Be aware, some filters that look the same only remove grit not chlorine.

The O-rings do stretch a bit and flatten too if you tighten them too much. But, that happens with all O-rings and it is just more apparent with a BIG ring. Here''s the tip for a long and multiple use life do NOT overtighten the housing, if the 0-Ring is a bit too large, put it into the freezer for about 10 minutes and then install it it will shrink enough to install properly.

This is a piece of junk. After you change your filter a few times this ring expands and doesn''t fit into the slot. Plan on buying two cuz you will need the other for when the first one fails to fit properly. Then you should plan on buying two more.

My order and my receipt both say IC-100 (no A) and since there doesn''t seem to be a way to directly talk to Amazon or e-mail them, I''m just returning these. I''ve been using this filter model for two years. I''m on my second unit. It works about the same as other inline filters I''ve used with regard to taste of the water. It seems not to last as long, but maybe my waster quality has changed, but it lasts long enough considering the price. I do like the quick connect fitting system. My filter is located in an awkward location, and not having to snug up compression fitting anymore to copper tubing is a big help.

I''ve read other reviews comment on black particles. You have to flush out the filter before you hook up the outlet end to your refrigerator. Just like any other filter. Maybe a gallon at most. I just do it until I don''t see black particles coming out. The instructions say to do this as well, but I think it says to use more water. That''s just CYA though.

I bought a two-pack for my Sub-Zero refrigerator. The older water filters used to come with brass nuts on each end but these new ones come with plastic ones. I over tightened and cracked the first one. This is probably my fault but would not have happened with brass nuts. Luckily, they come in pairs, so I installed the second filter without any problems. Next time, If I have a choice, I will choose a filter that is made with quality parts.

Swizz Style EMS-164 "Aquila" Ultrasonic Humidifier Save 20% Off

Swizz Style EMS-164 ''Aquila'' Ultrasonic HumidifierThe humidifier works really well and produces great vapor with a good quality mineral filter and ionic silver to inhibit bacterial growth. For function alone, I would give this 5 starts. But I gave it two stars because of the obnoxious, ultra-bright internal LED lights that cannot be turned off. The lights are so bright that it lights up the entire room at night. It''s not an ambient glow, it''s BRIGHT. I received this as a gift for my son''s nursery, and the only way I can use it is to rig pen caps as "covers" for the LED lights (I can''t use tape because they''re located IN the water reservoir) and then wrap the tank in black fabric. Even then, it still puts off a glow that''s about equivalent to a bright night light. It''s such a pain in the neck to get this thing set up with the pen caps and the fabric that I avoid using it. This would be a great product if not for the internal lights. What a horrible design flaw.

I knew from other reviews that this humidifier had lights that you cannot turn off when it is functioning. This is 100 percent true. The blue LEDs are beneath the tank and while you can dim them, you cannot turn the lights off while the unit is functioning. This is a drawback, but shouldn''t completely discourage you. The light is not that bright when dimmed and I agree with another reviewer that it is no more disruptive than a fishtank light.

There are TWO really AWESOME things about this humidifier that are unique and great. I own two other brands, so I know what I''m talking about.

1. The humidity comes out like a ''smoke'' and not wet. Everyone who has seen this operate has commented on how they want one like this with the super fine ''smoke'' and not just misting wet air and ruining everything within a few feet. This really does look like it''s smoking rather than misting and surfaces within its proximity do not get wet. It doesn''t have a fan to push the humidity in a certain direction, but it does have the ability to aim the nozzle on the top to different directions. The humidity ''smoke'' will be going straight up though and you will see it sink and roll across the surface, just like smoke. It''s actually rather cool to watch.

2. The footprint of this is so small. I am renting an apt while my home is being renovated and my apt is really small. It''s so great that this takes up no more space on the counter than a ballet slipper. My other humidifiers take a lot of counter space, so this being so small is a big plus. The downside is that you will have to refill the tank if you intend to run it all day. It doesn''t hold as much water as my other units.

One concern I have is with the calcium/anti-bac filter in the middle of the tank. We had a few warm days, so I emptied everything to let it dry out and the calc/anti-bac filter never did dry out and when you''d shake it, it clearly still had water in it. It has some sort of microbeads in it and is impossible to dry out. I just put it all back together and refilled the tank because it turned cold again. I question where you can buy a replacement for this filter, since it is obviously meant to be thrown away after a couple months use and there''s no way to dry it out. Doesn''t look like Amazon carries the filters yet. If someone knows how I can obtain more filters, please let me know.

All-in all, this is a cool little unit and raised the humidity in my 600sq ft apt without problems. Just don''t expect much if you are using this in a large house. You''ll need to close it off in a room for the best effectiveness.

Buy Swizz Style EMS-164 "Aquila" Ultrasonic Humidifier Now

The Swizz Style humidifier looks great and has many good design points. It''s thin enough to stand on my windowsill. I think $80 is far too much to pay for a humidifier; even one with features as this one.

It consumes about 1 gallon (1 tankful) per day. There is no option to adjust the (light) rate of mist production --which is fine for me. The various blue LED lights (on the AC adapter, next to the on/off switch, and under the water tank) are too bright to sleep with, so I have covered them with black electrical tape.

Since the tank capacity is only one gallon, it doesn''t get too heavy or unwieldy to bring from the faucet. Like other humidifiers where the mist stack goes through the water tank, there will be a few drops of condensation clinging to the stack that will fall out as you bring the tank to be filled; but it''s not as bad as the Crane drop-shaped humidifiers that will essentially drip on the entire path.

I like the idea of the filter and the ionic silver; however, after two months of use, the reddish-brown algae or mildew that comes out of my faucets has taken up residence in this machine. (Better than the one month it took for the Crane.) This is easier to clean than the Crane drop-shaped humidifier: the vent at the top of the mist stack pops out, providing access to clean the inside surfaces.

I like that the LEDs turn red when the tank needs to be refilled. Simply refilling the tank won''t resume mist production, though --you need to press the on/off button for the machine to reset.

So far, it seems to work great. Thought I should weigh in and say that, in my opinion, the light is not "bright" at all. At most, it is the strength of a night light, or an alarm clock. I have it at the foot of my bed and am nevertheless not kept up by the light or noise.

Want Swizz Style EMS-164 "Aquila" Ultrasonic Humidifier Discount?

We typically use humidifiers for our two daughters this time of year, and this "Aquila" Ultrasonic Humidifier arrived just a day or two after three out of four members of the family were diagnosed with sinus infections. This was perfectly easy to set up right out of the box. Literally taking it from my porch to pressing the on button took, at most, seven or eight minutes. This is a compact, well-made unit that really packs a punch. It works better than the humidifier we had been using, despite only being half its size.

Alas, there is a drawback and it borders on being significant. As another reviewer pointed out, the blue glow produced by this tiny device can be quite powerful and distracting in a dark room. I read through the instructions carefully, and even though the booklet gave the impression that the LED light could be dimmed or turned off completely, I found only three settings total regular, dim light, and off. Indeed, there is no option to completely turn off the light and still use this unit. The "dim" setting is slightly less irritating but does not make a huge difference.

So, will I stop using it because of the light? No. No one had any real difficulty falling asleep. The light is comparable to a fish tank or small reading lamp. Just be aware before you make your purchase that this unit will light up and stay lit as long as the humidifier is working.

PUR has discontinued the orange indicator model, it looks like Amazon doesn''t sell from a supply of these older and better ones.

I love the taste from PUR water filters. I''ve been using them for about 18 months and in that time I have had a bad time with over half of them. The problem doesn''t develop right away, but will manifest itself after 1 to 3 weeks of use. The water suddenly begins to drain from the top through the filter VERY SLOWLY. It can take over 3 hours for the top of a small pitcher to drain through. A rigorous shaking sometimes improves things temporarily. When this 3-pack is done I will be switching to another brand.

The only thing I don''t like is how they are labelled, are all of these styles the "ultra" or not?

Crane Hs-3161 Drop Shape Humidifier Filter Save 9% Off

Crane Hs-3161 Drop Shape Humidifier FilterI got this because I knew in advance that my tap water was ''hard''. In the drop humidifier instructions (which you don''t read until you have purchased the thing) it says note: It is recommended you used filtered or distilled water. The reason is because the minerals in tap water will cause some white dust to come from the machine. And I guess over time it will cause the unit to not work properly. Anyway I got this thing and they don''t list here that it should be replaced after 30-40 refills and you refill every day. That means the life of the filter is around a month. Just consider this expense if you have hard water like almost everyone does.

The filter itself is around 3x5 inches. It fits in there just fine. You have to soak it for 30 minutes before you put it in the machine.

We ordered this filter for our Crane drop humidifier EE-5301 as we have pretty hard water in our area. The filter works well and we have stocked up to get us through the winter season. I read the previous reviews and found the filter to fit perfectly. It seems Amazon took care shipping the correct product. I would recommend this filter if you have lots of minerals in the water or use well water

Crane has updated the drop shape humidifier and in the process changed the required shape of this filter. Unfortunately, they didn''t change the model number at all. So if you buy this filter you really have no way of knowing which one you will actually receive and worse yet if it will match your humidifier. I just bought the humdifier new and added the filter because I know my water isn''t the best. Got both in the same box and proceeded to think I was going crazy because the filter just wouldn''t fit. Ended up calling Crane directly who didn''t want to help me because we didn''t have the correct number of some sort. Finally received this response:

Dear Crane Customer,

I apologize that you are experiencing a problem with your new Drop Shape and Filter. You are not doing anything wrong! Unfortunately, against our request, some retailers are still selling/shipping an older model of filter that does not work with the newest model of Drop Shape.

Keurig K75 Platinum Brewing System Save 7% Off

Keurig K75 Single-Cup Home-Brewing System with Water Filter Kit, PlatinumUnboxing:

Item was purchased from Amazon directly; Arrived triple boxed and in perfect condition. I was presently surprised to find a little note from Keurig stating I was amung the first to receive the new K-75 this seems to be a silent upgrade as the UPC, and printed box specs are for the current model B-70.

The unit was packaged securly with an instructional/promotional packet above the top piece of styrofoam that was 1/2 of a steady shell that surround the fully assembled unit. Packet contained a "Buy two get two free offer" for K-Cup packs if purchased from Keurig directly, the owners manual, and the surprise note mentioned above along with specials directions on how to install the included water filter.

Setup:

Setup was easy, and took less than ten minutes complete. (This includes the brewing of the first cup) I found the most difficult part of the process was installing the water filter into the unit, as it must be lowered into the units tank, and seated on an inlet hole towards the rear of the tank. I would say most people would not have an issue with this however, and fully blame my ape hands for the difficulty I encountered.

Use:

The unit was ready for its first brew about 4 minutes after turning it on. Prep is simple and consists of raising the front lever, dropping a K-cup into the hole, closing the lid, and hitting brew. Not much more to say about the possess, it just works. The one thing that did stand out is how quite this unit is from start to finish. It is not much louder that the Bunn pour over machine it replaced!

Misc:

This unit looks great with the blue LED lit tank, and matching buttons. The larger 75oz tank slightly reduces the drip try area as it extends past the base as a result of the larger size. This in no way hinders use of the unit.

The directions for the water filter say each filter pod should be changed every 60 tank fills or every two months; which seems more than reasonable as a three pod replacement pack is about $12.

Brews coffee as well as any of Keurig units I have tried, and water temp is accurate to within 1 degree of its set point measured at the very top of the stream coming out of the unit.

All in all I am very happy with this product, and as a result I just purchased another for my office.

I just got the Keurig K75 at Costco with 60 K-Cups and My K-Cup reusable coffee filter for only 149.99. It''s a great coffee maker, but if you are a Costco member, you might want to save the $30 and get the extras.

I purchased the Keurig B70 for work. When I make coffee at home I prefer to grind my own beans and will drink an entire pot but at work I wanted something convenient that would give me a fresh cup every-time, never burnt. The Keurig fits the work environment perfectly. Everyone can drink whatever they want, dark roast, blond roast, tea hot chocolate, etc. with never any waste or mess. I''m still looking for the perfect K-cup, most are not quite strong enough for my taste but at least no one is fighting over how to make the coffee or who will clean up the mess.

Clearwave Electronic Water Softener System

Clearwave Electronic Water Softener System
  • Remove scale build-up due to hard water
  • Works on both hot and cold water systems
  • Makes it easier to wipe clean ceramic, plastic, glass, and metal surfaces
  • Scaly crust or stains in toilets or under faucets will be significantly reduced

We''ve had one of these water softeners at our house for 10 years. We''ve recommended them to family and friends, and installed them in other peoples'' houses, and everyone has been amazed that they not only work, but work SO WELL!

We bought one for our son for his brand-new house, which had very hard water, and iron pipes. When the water-softener salesman came around the neighborhood and tested everyone''s water (planning on big sales), he couldn''t figure out why the results were so bizarre at this house. He was finally clued in, and said maybe he should start selling Clear Wave softeners!

Things we noticed right away: a significant reduction in the amount of detergent we used for launday; showerheads didn''t get clogged as fast; water-spotting on tiles was easier to clean off; skin was less irritated.

"Installing" this unit consists of wrapping wire around the pipe that comes into the house, and plugging it into an electrical outlet. Ours has been chugging along for 10 years with no issues. It doesn''t make any noise, it doesn''t need to be "fed" or fixed. It just quietly does what it was designed to do 24/7. No chemicals or salts have to be added to the water, and this unit costs about as much as a light bulb to operate.

I was delighted to find this on Amazon, because I want to buy another one for someone who just moved into a home with old pipes and hard water. I KNOW it will help!

Buy Clearwave Electronic Water Softener System Now

I had earlier posted a review on this saying it doesnt seem to do anything. I am changing that review now, but for some reason amazon wont let me change the number of starts I rated this at ... I now give this 4 STARS

I had earlier posted the review that this doesnt seem to be doing anything, but I left it on. Interestingly while it took its time this thing does seem to be doing exactlt what it says it will do namely making the hardness in water "non-sticky". My shower heads look quite a bit cleaner, and yes we are noticing small while precipitate in the water, showing that the long deposited white ''scaling'' on boiler and pipes is actually coming off.

This seems to also have had a very positive effect on the dish washer. I dont get the whole scaling on glass anymore.

So if you have tested your water and its hardness is in the range for this device (mine qualifies) I will now very strongly recommend this to you. Its a peach to install and setup, and provided you have the patience to wait for its effects which can take a few months to show up this is great.

The Background

If you want to know how this works technically, please read elsewhere, you can download the manual on the internet and there are plenty of resources about the technology. Same goes for Soft Water, read about it elsewhere for details. If you are interested in my experience with the Clearwave, read on!

So I had a Culligan water softener in my old house and although we paid way too much for it, I loved the soft water, no more hard water to deal with.

Then we moved and decided not to take the softener with us so I got a water boss from Lowes and installed it myself. Again a happy camper for 4 years, then the water pressure started dropping due to gunk coming through the system and blocking all the aerators in the taps and showers. A quick checked proved that it was the softener by bypassing the unit, and a call to water boss confirmed I would need to either replace the unit or have it repaired. This was just before Christmas and funds were low so we did without soft water for a while. Now I shave my head which is actually my benchmark. Hard water makes it very difficult, I nick my skin and it takes me a lot longer to do. Soft water by comparison makes it quick and easy. After a month of hard water showers I was getting itchy to replace the softener, but still had no money.

Then we went to visit my parents in Spain.... They live in a small village and last time I visited they had hard water. But imagine my surprise when I jumped in the shower and noticed right away that the water was soft. I mentioned it to my Dad and he immediately confirmed that a friend had recommended an electronic softener, it was relatively inexpensive and although skeptical he gave it a go. He has had it for quite some time and all the hard water deposits that had built up had gone away so he was happy. Now I have seen these before but must have drunk too much Culligan cool-Aid when I was sold my original unit, I mean how can something like this work? So I had ignored it, but here was evidence! Dad''s unit was not a clearwave, but hey the US was bound to have something.

The Clearwave

On getting home to California I checked on the internet and there is a huge variety out there with big price differences. Then up popped the Clearwave that was similar in price to Dad''s unit and seemed to have the same function, and given the price it seemed worth the risk. Ordering was easy as it always is at Amazon and it arrived promptly and I was excited to get it going.

Unfortunately the builder for our home piped the water in to the opposite side of the house from the boiler, so if I was going to mount it in the boiler room area out of the elements I would only get soft hot water. I had already done some custom plumbing to put my salt based softener outside the house where the mains entered and now this caused me a problem because ideally you need room on the pipes to mount the device and my pipe work was full of valves and bends I was doubly challenged because I had to protect it from the elements. To cut a long story short I ended up doing some re piping to remove the bypass valves for the old unit and add in some straigh piping. Also until I can build a wooden box to cover the pipes I went to Lowes and got myself a small plastic storage box which with a few cuts slipped over the pipe work easily enough and allowed me to mount the Clearwave inside it and close the lid. Interestingly enough I ended up wrapping the coils around a bend in the pipe and although I was worried this would affect the performance, it does not seem to.

End result, I can see the red led''s pulsing inside my plastic box and sure enough it has become much easier to shave my head again. So all in all this does what it says it will, does not add salt to the wate, and at just over $100 it costs way less that a traditional softener right out of the gate. The Clearwave is easy to install, though it will depend on your house plumbing and may need some prep work, once I had everything in place it took me about 30 mins, and that was only because of the plastic box getting the the way. If it was inside my boiler room it would have taken no more than 10 mins. My plastic box solution has already stood up to heavy rains and while it is not exactly pretty it gets the job done. The unit itself appears well built, it feels a little but lightweight but then its just an electronic gizmo so that''s to be expected.

This solution to me is a minor miracle, go buy one!

In Summary

1. Cheap to purchase

2. No maintenance required

3. Keeps your piping healthy from the inside

4. Melts away existing hard water deposits and keeps them gone

5. Reduces household costs because soft water uses less soap

6. Makes shaving in the shower very easy

One final note, my parents did in fact see an increase in water pressure once the existing hard water deposits went away, as verified by a slight increase in the water bill!

I was enticed by the decent reviews of this product. After a few weeks of my own research, I decided to buy one myself and keep my fingers crossed that it would work. My main concern regarding the water in my house is the calcium buildup, which this product claims to treat/prevent. The product manual also claims that if you are unsatisfied with this product for any reason that you can return it to the place of purchase within 90 days. I will address this problem later...

A little background. This water conditioner claims that it will not only prevent buildup, but actually reverse the effects of existing calcuim buildup. This product was installed in a brand new house with a brand new electric water heater. I had my water tested and the grains of calcium were 23 (this product claims to work by itself up to 25). I gave the product 2 months before I attempted to return it. Over those two months, I determined the product to be a scam. Calcium built up on my shower heads, clogging them, around the sink drains, in my new dishwasher, and in my toilets. My old house is located in the same water district as my new house, so I went into this knowing the effects the untreated water has on fixtures. With this knowledge, I though the Clearwave water conditioner would, at the very least, slow down the buildup of calcium...but it didn''t.

So, still well within my 90 return window guaranteed by the manufacturer, I contacted amazon and requested a return. They stated I needed to contact the company that fulfilled my order (Smarthome.com) and request a refund through them. I contacted Smarthome.com and they stated the order was actually fulfilled through Amazon. So back to Amazon I went. Amazon then stated their return policy was 30 days and they would only offer me 50% of my money back for this product. Arguing with them got me nowhere, so now I am stuck with this worthless piece of junk.

For anyone still interested in this product, more info can be found here:

This is my first review and I typically prefer to read others reports than to write my own but I felt compelled to provide some feedback.

I really wanted this product to work as I do not like having to use a traditional water softener. Once our existing salt based water softener broke I decided to try the Clearwave and see if my wife could tell the difference. I did not tell her about the change and this was truly going to be blind field test. After a couple of weeks my wife asked if there was anything wrong with our softener as she had begun to notice some typical hard water build up. I had to fess up to the change and asked her to give it a few more weeks. I waited the full 90 days but it was clear that the Clearwave did not do the job as well as a traditional water softener. It appeared to not make any difference at all. The hard water stains were readily apparent in the shower and near the sink.

I will very reluctantly go back to a salt based system until some better comes along to replace it.

Hoover Air Purifier with TiO2 Technology Save 27% Off

Hoover Air Purifier with TiO2 Technology - WH10600The other reviews are very thorough. Just want to add a note that they are accurate.

We''ve had ours for a week now and it works great. Leaving it on low does a nice job of keeping our bedroom pure... well, the air at least...

Like someone else mentioned, the lights are rather bright on the control panel. We cover the top of the unit with the user manual at night to block the light.

One note for those comparing this one with the WH10400 model... the lower model does not have the auto-mode for the fan speed, does not have the fancy display, and it also does not have a remote. I almost bought the lesser model... but the auto mode pushed me over to buying this one. Its also interesting to see the display change color if the air quality is not great.

If you are looking to buy an air purifier, I would highly recommend this one.

UPDATE July 1, 2011 purifier still works great... I''ve rinsed the foam dust filter on the back several times, that is the only maintenance so far.

The auto mode is great... if the air is clear the display is blue and the fan runs on low (very quiet). If we are doing something that stirs up dust (vacuuming, dusting, etc) then it will kick up to the yellow-orange color and the fan goes to setting 2. If you are really stirring up dirty air (like when I come in from mowing and take off my dusty shirt) then it turns red and the fan kicks to high (3).

It gets somewhat loud at settings 2 and 3, we usually keep at it 1 during the night. Sometimes if a neighbor (or a bat in our attic) is making noise we put it on level 2 just to create some white noise.

I''d recommend this as a great air purifier.

I''ve been wanting another air purifier for a while now. I had several Sharper Image purifiers and one Rabbit Air. I still like the Rabbit Air but always wished it had a UV bulb inside. But my Sharper Image purifiers have been collecting dust and sitting unused ever since they started acting up -crackling, popping and making all sorts of annoying noises that no amount of cleaning can seem to remedy. Well, thanks to this Hoover, I finally got to toss out that old Sharper Image junk! I''m still using the Rabbit Air, but do consider this Hoover to be the better of the two.

Things that make you go DUH!

It wasn''t until I got this home that I realized this Hoover Purifier is the same brand as the vacuum people -DUH! Well, that little insight made me even happier about getting this unit. It''s only natural that the people who make some of the best vacuums are now making one of the best air purifiers I''ve tried. I guess now they''re in the business of vacuuming the air too!

I''ve done A LOT of research into air purifiers over the years. I have chronic respiratory problems including COPD, asthma and bronchitis. I use oxygen too, both at home and on the go, so breathing clean air is not only important to me, but critical to my well-being. And living in Los Angeles, I''m very aware of "good" air quality days and "bad." It effects me constantly and I couldn''t get by without my air purifiers. And with my Sharper Image Purifiers acting up, this new Hoover arrived at just the right time for me!

Auto Feature Set It & Forget It

One of the things I like best about this Hoover is the Auto Feature. The unit automatically detects the air quality, and adjusts the fan''s speed, accordingly. My Rabbit Air has this feature too, but doesn''t seem to be anywhere near as sensitive as this Hoover. I could be in the bathroom spraying on my deodorant, and the Hoover will detect the "pollution" from the next room and kick into high gear to clean the air. Cool! And even though I have respiratory problems, I do occasionally like to use smudge sticks and incense for cleansing purposes. Usually, I turn off my air purifiers when smudging, but as an experiment, I decided to leave the Hoover on and lit a smudge. It literally took no more than 15 seconds for it detect the "air pollution" and kick into high gear -and I watched as it literally sucked the smoke out of the air and got rid of it all in about 30 seconds! So all told, from lighting the smudge, back to clean air, was less than 1 minute. This Hoover REALLY SUCKS! And I mean that in the Best possible way!

Does NOT Create Ozone

Unlike the old Sharper Image purifiers, this Hoover does NOT create Ozone of any kind. Actually, even my Sharper Image purifiers were modified (by me with a pert provided by Sharper Image) to eliminate all ozone output. Those old reports by Consumer Reports are just that -old and out of date. The whole ozone/purifier issue has long since been addressed and remedied, with this Hoover being the latest product to offer ozone free ionization.

Additional Features

This Hoover also has an ionizer and something called a UV/TiO2 feature which is basically a UV bulb that kills airborne viruses and germs. Hospitals have been using UV bulbs for years, and they are highly effective at killing airborne contaminants. As I said, it''s a feature that is sorely lacking from my Rabbit Air, so I''m quite happy to have it on this Hoover.

LCD Control Panel

The display panel shows 3 different colors, depending on the air quality. Blue = Good; Yellow = Fair and Red = Poor. This color scheme is very easy to see from across the room, and gives a quick and easy to see visual gauge of the air quality. I think my only complaint is I''m not fond of the big, bright curved light that indicates if the UV bulb is on or off. It''s just a little too bright in a dark or dimly lit room. It''s no big deal; it''s just a personal pet peeve of mine. it seems every new piece of technology or electronics I get has a personality complex and wants its own big bright twinkling, blinking or glowing light on it to assert its own self-worth and importance. If we''re supposed to be more eco-friendly, then how about a few less bulbs on everything I buy??

Remote

I like the remote control because I can easily up the fan speed if I feel the need. Though honestly, the auto feature works so well, I may not use the remote much.

Bottom Line - this Hoover air purifier is a state of the art piece of equipment, and from a brand I know and trust. Some people might not think an air purifier is necessary, but use this for 1 month and then take a look at all the crap collected on the filter, and I bet you''ll think differently! This is the best air purifier I''ve personally tried and I think it''s a really high quality unit. Go for it!

Buy Hoover Air Purifier with TiO2 Technology Now

The CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) apparently is only listed on the box the unit comes in. I couldn''t find it even on Hoover''s website. They probably are doing this because the numbers are very low: Smoke 51, Dust 84 & Pollen 79. I believe the CADR numbers aren''t useful numbers with UV and Ionization functions those are things that can''t be accurately tested by CADR testing? But those CADR numbers are so very low for a true HEPA filter. For people who are allergic to smoke, dust or pollen the higher the number the better.

Another thing is the square feet this unit is certified for 79 square feet. That''s it? I thought that might have been a typo. That is a pretty small room slightly smaller than a 10x8 room.

The indicator lights & LCD panel are extremely bright! They could probably have saved a few watts of electricity by dimming them down a bit. If you have it in your bedroom you are going to need to cover them up.

What is up with the replacement HEPA filters? I see the price go from $24.99 to over $100. Would be nice to know they are at the $24.99 level. Since they are smaller they may need to be replaced twice a year.

Will be returning this item.

We bought this because of my wife''s allergies. It is a very nice design and it looks great. She reports of having better quality of air in the house. Now I don''t know if that is a placebo effect or really her allergies are better. Either way even if the placebo effect is helping I would do anything for her. One thing that I should -

REVISE: The ionizers on these certain products emit noise frequency wavelengths that affects our pets'' hearings. I really think everyone should know this. I tell you why. Through an audiogram I can prove that these low frequency noises that are emitted from ionizers, certain microwaves and other household stuff affects your pets hearing and therefore behavior. I noticed this since we have a little kittie. She is always fun and happy go lucky. For the past few days since we have turned on the Hoover she was droopy, kind of avoiding every body and not like herself. It was mild enough to go unnoticable but we being anomal lovers notice everything about our pet. After doing some research my wife and I tried to find out why she is acting like that. We have not changed anything we thought, then tonight at 3 am when I got up to turn the Hoover off I saw this button "ionizer" on top of it. Half sleep I said to myself I know the reason the cat was acting funny. This had happened once before with another equipment that emitted noise that we couldn''t hear but she could. I did a test right at that time. The Hoover with its ionizer on emits a low frequency tone of 50 hz, but at an intensity of 59 db. That is really horrible. Now; research has shown that dogs frequently are affected by this decible than cats are. We all must remember that our pets hear noises that we don''t hear. Yes yes I know What do you do if you have to turn on your microwave or changing channels on remote control or etc... I agree but you have to remember those noises emitting from our microwave ovens and remote controls are intermittent meaning they are not on at all times the Hoover was. How do you like hearing a high pitch noise 24 / 7 in your ear like our pets do and then we wonder why they act weird or withdrawn sometimes. So if you have pets becareful with ionizers and kitchen equipment that emit low frequency sounds.

I read the reviews here before buying this Hoover and many complained about the fan noise of it and the back light when it s on. None of that really bothered us. The back light for its control panel is not that bright at least for us unless you are extremely sensitive to any light. The noise of it is fine too. Let me compare the noise to you more accurately. When the highest level is on which is level 3 the noise of it is double than a laptop computer fan. At level 1 the Hoover sounds just like as the fan of a laptop computer sounds. Why did I give it a 4 stars instead of 5 the price. It is really fine even if you shut down its ionizing button it still works well. Hope I helped some little kittie or a little pooch out there.

This thing is amazing, and I''m a huge fan. I have it in my office at work, and every time a co-worker comes in, they make mention of how fresh the air in my office smells. It''s a dramatic and noticeable difference from the air in the rest of the building.

Great things:

Very quiet, and really only audible when the fan is on its highest setting.

The design is attractive and unobtrusive.

The timer feature is a plus, especially in my case; it makes it easy to set the purifier to turn off when I leave for the day.

I''m a big fan of the internal UV light that kills germs. I haven''t taken an air sample yet to make sure this is working, but I have faith. :)

The remote keeps me from having to get up and walk to the purifier to change a setting I can do it right from my desk.

Things that could be better:

Being able to turn off the display at night would be great the light on it is pretty bright in the dark.

Being able to turn off the beeping sound when changing a setting.

The price is a bit steep for an air purifier.

I''m not entirely sure why previous reviews were complaining about the ionizing feature, because you can turn that off if you''re concerned about an old report Consumer Reports published. If anything, it should get a *higher* rating for including that feature.

Either way, I really like the unit, and I''ll be purchasing one for my bedroom as well.
