Holmes S1708 Humidifier Bacteriostat Save 18% Off

Holmes S1708PDQ-U Humidifier BacteriostatFor several years we have used a large humidifier during the winter months. Despite frequent cleaning and care, we had to replace the humidifier filters every few weeks. We started using the Holmes Bacteriostat last winter and only had to replace the filter a single time, three-quarters of the way through the winter.

Follow the directions on the bottle and not only save money by not having to replace the humidifier filters as often, but it can also save you from breathing mold spores growing on an untreated filter (before the filter even looks like it needs changing).

From the bottle''s label:

Holmes

Humidifier Water Treatment

Model S1705

* Prolongs the life of wick filters and warm mist heating systems

* Helps prevent lime and scale build-up

* Provides easier cleaning

My motivation for buying the Treatment was to increase the lifespan of the wick. I was only getting a few months life from a wick, using about two per winter. Using the Treatment, one wick is lasting more than one winter.

And the bottle lasts more than a winter, so it''s worth it.

I hate to recommend W*lmart, but I bought my last bottle there for less than $2. That was still during the end of the humidifying season. Guess I should have bought two. I also bought their last half-dozen HM3600 humidifier wicks for $2 each (in July), when you couldn''t find them for less than $12 anywhere on eBay.

I''ll need another year to determine just how much longer the wicks are lasting, now that I''m on the Treatment. I just checked my wick. I think I used it for almost all last winter. It''s just a little soft all over, but no serious deterioration. And no smell, just in case you''re counting.

The instructions recommend adding a capful with every 3 gallons of water -as a start -and then after a while, you''re supposed to determine whether your water needs more or less. I used a little less, and it still did the trick for my wick, apparently. My water is very soft. The instructions say harder water will require more Treatment. Granted, that''s not a lot of guidance.

I didn''t know if it''s allowed to combine bactericide with the Treatment, so I didn''t. Between the Treatment and being careful not to allow the humidifier to sit with water if it was turned off, the water never got smelly.

Before we tried the S1708 in our humidifier MA0800, we had to replace the filter about once per month. I would buy a case of 6 filters for over $60 each winter season. Since our baby was born we have decided to leave the humidifier running year round. I have used a bottle of this and am now ordering another and have only used 2 filters this entire year. I went to change it like normal, but the filter was like new. The only time I''ve had to change the filter is when we left it off for a few weeks with water in the tank.

Great product that saves me money. Thanks Holmes!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Keeps my humidifier smelling fresh and clean all the time. I highly recommend this product. (Be sure to add after filling the contained though or it will bubble up.)

We could not find this item anywhere then i looked on amazon.com and here it was. You have to use antibacterial even when you get a ball with the machine that is said to do the job.

I love this product. I like the larger bottles and it really makes our room clean smelling not musty and molded. Our maching stays super clean and free of all bacteria and molds using this. I would not be without it.

If you are using a humidifier and they say you do not need to add chemical, wrong. Buy this and you will see the difference and how clean your machine and air stays.

PUR Flavor Options Faucet Mount FM-5050B

PUR Flavor Options Faucet Mount FM-5050B
  • Faucet Mount with option to add flavor
  • Easy One-Click Installation
  • Flavor Packet Concentrate:No Sugar, Calories, or Dyes
  • Electronic Filter Change Light
  • Premium filtration for deliciously healthy water

To quickly answer the question most people will want to know about, the flavoring option is a mixed bag. Personally, I think it tastes great but I am used to the flavor of "diet" tasting drinks so if you can stand drinks like Crystal Light, Fresca soda, or similar you will probably like this as well. This was a present for my mother, however, and she doesn''t like the taste. Adding flavor is completely optional. It''s simply a small plastic container that is attached to the front of the purifier and it squirts a small amount of sucralose flavoring into the water dispensed from the separate tap.

I''m also pleased to note that this matches a chrome faucet perfectly and I didn''t need separate (included) adapters during installation. My only complaint is you never feel like it is installed securely enough. While only finger tightening was enough to use without leaks, it still moves around sideways a lot. I''m not sure if that was the intent, but I would have preferred something that locks solidly into place. Installation of the filter is idiot-proof as you are literally placing a square peg into a round hole. Screw the cap on the front into place, installing the flavor cartridge if you desire, and you''re ready to go.

The filters are rated to purify 100 gallons before needing replacement. A small electronic light blinks green, yellow, or red when you switch to purified water as an indicator. Most importantly, the water tastes great and I find myself drinking a lot more of it in place of soda or other drinks. That certainly can''t be a bad thing. Recommended.

Update (May, 2008): I feel I should update this review. While my purifier worked, I was disheartened to read so many reviews saying these were defective. After about six months of use I started to see symptoms of problems others were complaining about such as leakage from the mount and decreased water pressure (likely due to a loose seal). P&G, the makers of Pur, were nice enough to send me a coupon for a replacement faucet but unfortunately the replacement leaked everywhere. I now question the quality and reliability of these devices, but cannot change my original rating. While the idea is great, these do seem to be cheap junk and I would not recommend them now. I guess I was lucky the first time.

PUR Water Filter Review \ Hack

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called ''planned obsolescence'' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn''t used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called ''timed death'' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking ''no'' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You''ve cheated no one. P&G''s cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You''re done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You''ll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn''t be without them. It''s P&G''s customer abuse that''s not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

Recently the quality of the PUR Faucet Mount systems have gone into the toilet. I contacted PUR to let them know I was having problems with keeping their PUR filter from leaking. They sent me a coupon for a new one and I purchased this "state of the art" model thinking that if the previous models had kinks then surely they would have worked them out by now. Ummmm... no way. The silver colored plastic Faucet Mount Housing (the large silver part that holds the filter) came off within about a week of us installing it because the glue gave out. The front silver cover that houses the flavor cartridge kept falling off if it was slightly tapped. This thing leaked within a few months of getting it. Try as we may, tightening it did nothing. Then we tried to take it off to check the rubber seal. The mounting nut that attaches it to the faucet then locked up so we couldn''t put it back on. Save your money. Replacing the unit every few months doesn''t give you any real savings. I''m dissappointed again. I wish I could give it -3 stars because I would.

I''m a very VERY picky person when it comes to water. I cannot stomach the taste of tap water so for years I''ve been buying at least a case of water each week.

I was very skeptical about trying anything out of the tap using a filter but I bought this with the raspberry flavoring. If you''re going to do it, might as well do it right!

I''m actually very surprised. The instructions made it so incredibly easy to install and use the unit and the water that came out didn''t have that ''tap water taste'' to it. It was extremely clean and the flavoring is a nice added benefit.

I''d suggest this to anyone that uses bottled water on a regular basis. It will save you money in the long run and the hassle of recycling.

This has to be one of the best products invented in a long time. It was very easy to install. My kids have always been water drinkers but now they love to drink water! And as an added benefit, there is no sugar in it. No more flavored drink mixes, no more soda, no more juice... Flavored water from the tap and it tastes'' great!

Now to stock up on the flavor cartridges!

Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer Save 14% Off

Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer With Thermo Carafe - Technivorm 9587I love coffee. For the past year, I''ve been immersed in the technical and chemical artistry (and it truly is) of home roasting my own coffee and perfecting the brewing process to take advantage of total control and total freshness. Up to now, I''ve made my single cups using a thermostatically controlled water kettle and a cone drip device which allows me to control the "steep" time of the water at the proper temperature. But what to do when guests come over?

The overwhelming consensus is that the TechniVorm (TV) is the Rolls Royce of batch coffee makers. I got one as a gift and I agree.

We all know that cheap coffee makers cannot supply brewing temperature water at the desired 203F. My Mr. Coffee, for example, was 169F at the brewhead. More on this in a minute.

The coffee maker comes assembled and requires only that the brewhead wand, filter basket and covers be installed. The water chamber is clear plastic with cup level markings on the side. I have not measured the "cup" volumes yet but I suspect they are consistent with a 6 oz. cup size. The coffee measure with the TV is said to make two cups per scoop, which is fairly accurate as a starting point. The filter basket, basket cover and water chamber cover are black plastic. The brewhead wand is stainless steel.

The TV is simple enough to use. Placing the filter basket on a plastic support is a no-brainer except that it helps to notice that the handle should go in front facing you, not to either side. This is because the basket is wedge shaped at the bottom to accommodate the #4 cone filters used, and the brewhead wand is designed to distribute water along the length of the bottom wedge. There are nine holes in the brewhead which distribute water effectively onto the coffee.

Taking a closer look at the TV, it is obvious that one of the reasons it achieves the proper high brewing temperature is that the siphon from the heating chamber passes through an outer plastic tube which effectively insulates the heated water from the cold unheated water in the water chamber. This is the main design flaw with cheaper coffee makers. The TV also has two heating coils rather than one to help maintain a high enough water temperature.

Additional control is provided with a three-position switch on the side of the filter basket. The positions are full flow (although the hole is quite small), partial flow and closed. My brewing so far has been to leave the switch open, as I''m brewing 10-cup batches and use a rather fine grind which extends the drip time. I have not yet made 2-cup batches, but I will plan to close the switch completely to enable a 4-minute steep time before releasing the coffee into the carafe. Note that the grind is a major variable here since fine grind will slow the water considerably over a coarser grind. I use a burr grinder which can be controlled easily. If you use a blade grinder, plan on a very fine grind and longer brew times.

Since I use home roasted coffee, my coffee is extremely fresh after a customary 4-day rest period. Very fresh coffee will give off CO2 which causes some foaming on the surface. This could be a problem if you are brewing 10-cup batches with a full filter and you restrict the flow with the second position on the filter basket switch, so beware. Commercial coffee, especially pre-ground, will not usually foam as it has already begun to stale. I would recommend brewing with the filter basket cover removed until you get a feel for how the water flows through your coffee. Overflow is certainly possible but not likely with the switch fully open, and my 10-cup batches with very fresh coffee came only to 1/2" of the top of the filter basket. If you get an overflow, then, you either have ground the coffee too finely and/or you are using filters that are too restrictive. I use Filtropia and Melitta, preferring the former.

The power is controlled by a single switch. The light on the switch stays on following brewing, but the coils shut off automatically at the end of a brewing cycle and the brew light goes out. There is no timer, which is often a complaint if you''re too lazy to grind and brew when you wake up. I always grind fresh and brew with fresh water and it takes only 60 seconds to fill the chamber, grind a couple of scoops of coffee and press the button. I prefer this to having a chamber full of stale water overnight.

The stainless steel carafe is a vacuum carafe and is perhaps the weakest link. I cannot imagine using a glass carafe with this machine, as coffee temperature is the whole purpose of the design, and an uninsulated glass carafe is good only to keep the coffee from spilling on the counter! This carafe keeps coffee hot for hours. Pouring is the only issue I might have here. The pour lip has no dimple and if you pour with the screw-in lid, it can spread a bit along the lip and cause some spilling. On the other hand, if you loosen the lid, turn it to the proper 1/4 positions and pour slowly, the coffee comes out leaving a nice ring of fresh-coffee bubbles inside the rim of the cup. This may well have been intended, as everything else on this device is well engineered. Just don''t get in a real hurry to pour with the lid on. You can, of course remove the lid to pour.

Overall, the best of the best with the vacuum carafe.

I have to say that some of the reviews of this product make me despair of the whole review process. They seem to fall into "no coffee maker should cost this much," or "it''s not made of platinum." In either case, my advice is this: don''t buy it! For those interested in a review of the thing itself, so you can decide if it''s worth the (high) price here it is.

My wife and I like coffee. It''s one of the day''s regular pleasures and we drink coffee every day. So we think our regular use justifies some extravagance. We buy good coffee. For years we used a small plastic Krupps grinder and a Krupps then Cusineart coffee maker. And it was fine. But then I took a flier on a burr grinder--way more expensive than the Krupps grinder (c. $100 vs $25 or so). And it was a revelation!! So then, with some Christmas money in hand we did research and were persuaded by a Cooks'' Illustrated review and bought the Technivorm. Wow! My idea of coffee is entirely changed. I get all that stuff about "notes of chocolate," and all that. It is just terrific coffee. What excellent wine is to table wine (and we drink a lot of table wine; so this is not about snobbism).

The whole Technivorm schtick is simple: a good pump, and keep the coffee at c. 200F until it comes out the nozzle over the coffee. Who would think it would make such a difference? But it does. The machine itself is perfectly durable, but it''s not fancy and is largely plastic, not metal. Whatever. The thermos keeps the coffee hot (if, as the instructions suggest, you rinse it first with hot water) for at least 5 hours. After that you should make a new pot anyway. It is fast, and it is quiet. It makes 10.5 cups, which is a little less than we''d like when company comes (12 is good).

The question is, and it''s a real question--is this indulgence the way you want to spend your money?

And of course, its durability is unproven--we''ve only had it for a month. But it makes wonderful coffee. If that''s really important to you, and you''ve got the money, then this machine won''t disappoint you.

=====

A couple of years later: The TV is still going strong, still making wonderful coffee. It has slowed a bit despite occasional white-vinegar treatments. Most notable: the carafe has colored on the inside and has a sort of brown glaze on the bottom. It seems not to affect the taste, but looks a bit grotty. Otherwise, still well worth the money!

I am a real coffee snob and have gone through at least 10 coffee makers and finally found this one. Was a three month wait to get it and finally got it. Makes great coffee and come out very hot. Brews very quickly. Don''t like the carafe that comes with it. Got a Nissan -Thermos to keep it hot. Everyone who tries my coffee always asks what coffee I use. In my quest for the perfect cup of coffee I have at last achieved success!! The Technivorm Moccamaster should be called Moccamaster-of-the-Universe. It is awesome. Easy to set up, easy to use. A child of average intelligence could use it. P-E-R-F-E-C-T coffee every time. The coffee is hot. The cofee stays hot for hours in the carafe. The coffee tastes as good as it piossibly can (see below). It is coffeemaker perfection, the holy grail, the difference between heaven and hell (owners of Delonghi-go towards the light!). It is what you want.

I have read all the reviews here and elsewhere. Let me save you the trouble. Here is the low-down:

Stupid comment 1) No "features."

-This thing is no-frills-you fill it with water and coffee and you turn it on. It makes coffee. You drink it. The end. What else do you want it to do?

Stupid comment 2) Coffee is "average" What''s the hype all about?

-This is common sense, but for those of you who are lacking in that dept I will explain. This machine is awesome, but it is not MAGICAL. If you put crappy coffee in, crappy coffee will come out. It will not make it worse, but it cannot make it better. get it?

Stupid comment 3)"Flimsiness"

-What? I don''t know what people are talking about when they say the base the carafe sits on comes off...did ya follow the simple directions? I did and mine stays together...I''m just sayin''... The parts of this machine that are supposed to come off do with ease (so no breaking it trying to remove lids, filters, etc) and the parts that aren''t supposed to come off don''t.

Stupid complaint 4) No Automatic timer.

-Whaa Whaa. How fresh is coffee that has been sitting out all night? Not very. It takes 5 minutes to brew the coffee. If you don''t have five minutes to brew coffee you don''t have enough time to drink it either. Some folks (like my husband) used to use a timer to make coffee several hours before they wake up so it''s "hot enough" when they wake up. This is how you burn coffee and is the very best way to make it taste truly awful. If you like burnt nasty swill don''t buy this machine. The technivorm makes coffee that is boiling hot. If you need it hotter than that you need help.

Stupid complaint 5) Unsexy.

-Ok, Technivorm went with superior function over superior style. Paris Hilton probably looks good in the kitchen, but lets face it-is probably pretty useless in there. I''ve never met a sexy dishwasher; have you?. Do you really care what it looks like? Has anyone ever said "why, what a beautiful coffeemaker you have there!" I doubt it. And anyway-it looks better in person than in the picture (unlike mail-order-brides and certain celebrity heiresses;P)

Bottom line: how much is 50+50+50+50+50+50? 300 right? Stop being a cheapskate!Save yourself the trouble of making 6 $50 purchases and just pony up the cash up front-it''s worth it and better for the earth than throwing out 6 coffeemakers.

Want Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer Discount?

We''ve had our Techniform for just over 2 years. While the coffee it makes is unmatched, it simply has had too many build problems to justify its premium price. Over a year ago, it began to develop a small leak in the piping inside, so if you put water in the reservoir, it will slowly leak out unless you brew right away. It was out of warranty, so we could get no assistance. Second, the coffee maker began blowing a fuse on one side of our kitchen, so we had to move it to another end with a dedicated breaker. Third, the thermos has just started to wear out, so coffee now only stays hot about 45 min compared to over 2 hours when we first bought it. Finally, the toggle switch to turn off the brewing to the thermos is quite annoying and often gets accidentally pressed down. So, while the Techniform generates awesome and consistent heated water, its shoddy build quality is sadly forcing me to turn elsewhere now.

SHURflo EV959206 ADC Quick Change Cartridge for Water Purification System

SHURflo EV959206 ADC Quick Change Cartridge for Water Purification System
  • Original cartridge that is used in Everpure Kit EV925205
  • Economically priced, but still removes a long list of contaminants
  • Bacteriostatic media helps reduce bacterial growth
  • Provides sub micron filtration

My Coach originally came equipped the EverPure ADC filtration system. I had to break my piggy bank to pay for the first one. Many places I travel have well water and one never knows if it has been contaminated.

Filter provides protection from Cysts such as Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica and Cryptosporidium parvum some which can survive Chlorination in fresh water holding tank. 0.5 micron carbon filter removes all Chlorine taste and odor and removes VOC contaminates. There are other filters on the market at a lesser price, But filter down to only 1 micron. Whether this makes a difference I couldn''t tell you as I am no expert.

I do have an RVing associate who contracted Giardia and it took him 4 years to get rid of it! Being a National Science Foundation (NSF) International Standard 42 Class 1 filter I feel safer. Cheap IN HOUSE filter systems have no CYST protection because it is Assumed that water treatment plants have taken care of them..

Each filter lasts me a year and a half as a Full Time RVer. I only replace filter when water flow diminishes to the point it dribbles out.. Also filters out Mold, Algae, Asbestos Fibers, Oxidized iron, Manganese, and Sulfides. What more can I say. it''s Priceless

C. parvum is considered to be the most important waterborne pathogen in developed countries. It is resistant to all practical levels of chlorination, surviving for 24hrs at 1000 mg/L free chlorine

Giardia cyst can survive for weeks to months in cold water, and therefore can be present in contaminated wells, water systems, and mountain streams. They may also occur in city reservoirs and persist after water treatment, as the cysts are resistant to conventional water treatment methods such as chlorination and ozonolysis.

Could not have asked for better customer service. As online transactions go, this has to be the best I have had to date. Am very pleased with the product and how they shipped it.

I bought a used motorhome that had the Everpure by Shurflo system already installed. That is why I bought the replacement filter. The filter seems to work just fine. It has improved the taste of the water from our water well. Amazon had the best delivered price I could find. It saved about 12 dollars over the local RV store. Personally I would not buy this system as it is way too expensive. You can buy a filter housing at Home Depot for about 20 dollars and replacement filters for 5 or 6 dollars each. Why spend 40 or more dollars for replacement filters?

My daughter bought a pair of these $71 shoes for me. They were fine until I stepped on a small water smear in the kitchen. I noticed black marks over the floor. Upon investigation I found the dye from the shoe sole was coming off on the floor. I slightly dampened a paper towel and scrubbed the sole of a shoe. Sure enough, black dye came off. I called the company. The representative said that they did not consider this a defect and would do nothing about it. I asked to speak to her supervisor who said the same thing.

Both admitted other customers had made the same complaint. There is no mention in their marketing copy of this. I asked if most people didn''t

walk in their kitchens and bathrooms in their slippers. Both places could be expected to have occasional spots of moisture on the floors. Both representatives agreed this was likely behavior, but still would not budge from their "it''s not a defect" stance. I asked what would have happened had

I stepped a few paces into a newly-carpeted area adjacent to the kitchen and

left black marks, probably ineradicable, on the rug? I was accused of being

sarcastic. I ended the call without receiving any help and now have a pair of

slippers I can only wear if I stay away from kitchen and bathroom where a smear of moisture might lurk.

Mine came with one of these and it really does work. It basically floats around in the water tank and absorbs minerals. It lasts about four months which, where I live, is about one season. It is a bit overpriced. Its not much bigger than your thumb and yet it''s $20. But it''s worth it if it works.

Product itself it fine. At first I thought the price was ridiculously high for one cartridge, but when it arrived I found there are four cartridges in the package -which it does say in the fine print on this web site, but I failed to see that. So I think the price is okay for four of them. However, I still got it cheaper online from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I am from the Northwest and was spoiled by the pure water up there. When I moved to Texas the tap water gave me headaches and stomach problems, so I started buying bottled water jugs (Ozarka Spring water). This solved the problem but is expensive (more than $1/gallon) and uses a lot of plastic. I bought the Filtrete system and installed it. The cost per gallon is about 1 cent, which is awesome. The quality is not quite as good as Ozarka Spring Water, but I feel better about not using so much plastic and importing someone else''s ground water that should probably stay in the ground there.

I will say the Filtrete installation may not be as easy as the instructions make it out to be. If you have standard stems (where the water comes out), it''s very easy and intuitive. But I had a flared stem and the compression fitting that comes with the system did not work. I spent an hour trying to modify the plastic bits before I realized I just needed to buy an adapter at the hardware store. $3 later I had a connector with a flare fitting on one side and the standard straight fitting on the other. The filtrete hose than connected in just a minute.

Be sure when you are tightening the nut for the compression fitting at the input hose (where the water comes out of the wall and goes into the first blue tubing for your filter) that you keep pushing the plastic tube into the fitting while you are tightening the fitting tightly. I used a wrench to tighten it well, but you could use pliers. This is important because if you don''t keep pushing it into the fitting or if you only hand-tighten the tube will get pushed out of the fitting when tightening, or will leak. So remember: hand-tighten the fitting that goes to the faucet (the output), but wrench tighten the fitting that comes from the wall (the input).

All in all, the quality of the water is good. There is a fishy smell to tap water in Houston and it deals with this nicely. The taste is not quite as good as the Ozarka spring water, but is definitely better than the tap water. It''s hard to beat ground water. But for the money, this is a very respectable unit.

It''s also convenient. The flow is labeled as 1.5 gpm, and I believe it. The flow rate is great where I am (fairly high pressure area). I could it use it for washing if I wanted to and I can certainly use it to fill a pot of water for cooking pasta. This is much more convenient than the Pur water filter which has a severely reduced flow when filtering. Also, I read many reviews where people said the Pur system was very flimsy and leaked easily. That''s primarily why I went with the under-the-sink Filtrete system. Also, the Filtrete is suggested by the National Science Foundation for water filtration, which I liked.

Replacement every 6 months is a deal as well since the Brita system requires constant filling and replacement every 2 months. And the filters are very reasonably priced considering the volume of water they can handle. As I said, about 1 penny per gallon for me.

I highly recommend this system. I only gave it 4 stars because I needed to buy a different compression fitting and because the flavor of the water is not absolutely perfect (it''s very good, but doesn''t beat ground water). The instructions should have mentioned what to do with a flared stem end, at the very least.

In Vegas our water is super-chlorinated. Forcing us to use a brita for cooking and coffee. I investigated other inline filters, but most of them required a separate tap installed -since we have a granite countertops, this seemed like an extreme fix. finally, here is a filter that simply sits in your cold water line -giving you filtered water to your existing cold water tap. It works great -the chlorine taste and smell is gone. It does slow down the cold water flow minimally. It is no big deal, and hardly noticeable. Installation was a snap. I would absolutely recommend it.

This filter is a snap to install and does a great job filtering water. If there''s any drawback at all, it filters the water TOO well. The filtered water tastes "soft," rather more like distilled water than drinking water. It''s a vast improvement over untreated Phoenix city tap water.

Do you hate the taste of chlorinated water? Do you live in an apartment where it''s a big no-no to make any modifications? Do you hate the aesthetics, flow rate, and filter cost of Pur and other filters installed at the aerator? I''m a big water drinker, to the tune of at least a gallon daily. After moving to a new city, I grew to hate the taste of the public water supply. At the office, I became accustomed to the purity of a reverse osmosis system, and grew weary of the chlorinated water at home.

Enter the 3M Filtrete Advanced Under-Sink Water Filtration System. It took less than 20 minutes to install. Since the tubing to my faucet was already plastic, I was able to simplify the installation a bit from the instructions, discarding the compression fitting adapter and one of the included hoses and inserting the hose from the faucet directly into the push fitting filter output. After running the cold water for 5 minutes to initialize the filter, I filled a glass. From the first sip, I was hooked. I''m sure there are still plenty of harmful chemicals, like fluoride and the prescription medicine that gets into the water supply, but the taste is outstanding. I don''t have water from the office here to test with, but I am sure that in a back to back taste test, I wouldn''t be able to distinguish between RO-filtered water and water from my Filtrete system.

The flow rate is ever so slightly diminished. My aerator has a small leak I haven''t gotten around to fixing, that used to spray a stream of water right toward my face if I fully opened the tap. Now, it sprays closer to chest level. Very scientific study here, of course, but what I''m getting at is that you can trust 3M''s claim that it has a minimal impact on the flow rate. My favorite part of this system is the simplicity. No holes to drill in the stainless steel sink, no extra faucet cluttering up the counter area, and the absolute minimum number of potential points of leakage (three, including the point where the filter canister screws in). If the staff from your apartment''s management ever find themselves in your unit, they''ll never know. When you move, you can take your Filtrete with you, as the installation doesn''t require any modifications to the existing parts under your sink.

Are there better systems available? Yes, a multi-stage filtration and reverse-osmosis system would surely yield cleaner water. I''m still giving this 5 stars, as it provides all of the tangible benefits of a RO system costing 10 times as much, in that it provides water devoid of any taste or odor. It is also much more compact (no storage tank) and filter replacement costs are much lower.

We''ve been using this filter system for over two years with absolutely no leaks in the fittings and excellent water flow whether using the standard filter or the pro model. Would definitely recommend for any DIY''er, or even those first time installers.

White BottleLess Countertop Water Purification Cooler Save 32% Off

White BottleLess Countertop Water Purification Cooler with 1,200-Gallon capacity water filtration and installation kit. From BottleLess Direct. Dispenses Hot & Cold water.I just installed it. I will update this review in the future if it is necessary.

Very happy in the first day, one gallon of could water and 1 litter of hot. I tried to prepare my oat meal direct from hot water''s dispenser, 5 min later ready to eat.

It was Sunday afternoon when I installed it, water was not going in the tank, check the web site, clicked on chat now, some one answered, told me to lock the filter, I tried, rotating clockwise, and that was it. I was very surprised to get an answer on a Sunday 5PM.

The only think I did not like is the connection from the cold water pipe, they send you a small faucet that punches the pipe, and I drove to HomeDepo and bought a 3 /8 "T (male, female) with a 1 /4 exit. It is the same as refrigerator ice pipe. I did it under the sink, removed the flexible hose, that goes to foucet, added the "T", connected the flexy hose, connected my pipe. Done.

Thank you

Even though you are using plastic we have saved so much on thinner and hazardous waste removal that in my opinion it is much better for our environment. Add on top of that the quick gun clean up and the fact that you can keep your paint in these for some time and reuse later. There is a filter on the lid so you dont have to worry so much about straining before going into your gun.

Also, this allows you to paint upside down. Once in your gun put your gun upside down and wait until the paint comes out. It creates a vacuum and keeps until you remove it from your gun. Very handy for the hard to reach places. We will never go back to not using a system like this.
