These last about 6 months in my house. The water gets a dusty dirty taste to it when I go too long without replacing them. Use a pre-filter like this as a beginning of any water filtration system. I also have a softener, carbon and R/O filter. This pre-filter lets the other filters last much much longer. It reduces staining and sediment buildup in all plumbing and in the laundry.
