Sunbeam 3.23-Gallon Whole-House Humidifier SCM3609

Sunbeam 3.23-Gallon Whole-House Humidifier SCM3609As an engineer I rate this appliance 5 Stars. The only drawbacks is the fan as not really balances and it vibrates slightly. Put mine in service and in 4 hours the humidity went up from 33% to 45%. Recommend NOT using the rollers, set it on the floor directly to damp the vibration. The water jugs are ingenious, handles on top and bottom make it a snap to fill. Wish they had these types in the 70''s. I AM IMPRESSED with this unit, and I do not give accolades freely.

Have had it for three years now and it''s still holding strong. Humidity and filter cleanliness gauges seem to have broken long ago though (eg even after cleaning filter gauge quickly says it''s dirty and humidity gauge always says 21%).

Unit is much quieter than others I have had in the past but the auto on/off never worked well (back when humidity gauge worked) since it would constantly cycle on/off every few seconds.

I wish the top would be boxed on this so when I fill it up I wouldn''t have to balance it in place, and it would hold more water.. Also, the handles hold water (when upside down, spills out when lifted), not good when overflow of bathtub water goes in. I just feel they could have done a better design job on these. I gave two stars due to the opening to fill is larger than my older model. Any non-ultrasonic unit I have works the same and way better than ultrasonic.

PUR CTRF-5050L 1 Stage Replacement Filter

PUR CTRF-5050L 1 Stage Replacement Filter, Single PackPrice is a little [costly](ok), Installation was fairly easy (good), Water is clean and tastless(great).

I have tried many filtration system (piture, sink, countertop) and I do like this the best. Does not take up room in fridge, no clunkie faucit attachment, and great filtration.

PUR has not only discontinued the undercounter/countertop filter kit, but it has also discontinued the replacement filter cartridges. Gee, thanks a lot, Proctor & Gamble (the new owners of PUR)!

If you go through the trouble to install an PUR PLUS undercounter kit (requiring a hole drilled into the sink to install the dispenser gizmo), then the whole kit goes to pot when you find that you cannot locate any replacement CTRF-5050 cartridges.

There are several sellers on eBay selling the normally $25 cartridge for double the price, but you would be well advised to go look for some other major brand undercounter kit for which you can still purchase replacement filters. Paying a premium for leftover PUR filters is money wasted that could have been spent on getting a entire new kit, as no one else makes a compatible replacement filter for the old PUR countertop or undersink unit.

Keep this in mind the next time you consider making an expensive purchase of a P&G branded item that might require regular replacement parts in the near future!

Buy PUR CTRF-5050L 1 Stage Replacement Filter Now

This filter fits a Pur undersink cartridge system that''s no longer being made. That said, the unit has worked nicely for me for almost 10 years now. The filter will exhibit somewhat reduced flow as it starts to get clogged, and will just shut off completely when it''s no longer useful. You don''t have to be concerned about whether it''s expired; it''ll let you know in this very simple fashion.

The cartridge mounts on the wall under the sink. To replace the filter you pop the cartridge off the mount, unscrew the cap at the base, and turn on the water JUST A BIT to push out the old filter. Then pop in the new filter, screw the cap on, and hang the cartridge back on the wall. You''re good for the next few hundred gallons of pure drinking water.

Newer units are generally bigger than this. Since I bought a house with a mammoth, industrial quality garbage disposal in the kitchen, I didn''t have much room left under the sink. This has worked well for me, and I''m glad that Pur keeps making replacement filters for it.

Just to calm any would-be buyers who read the older comments about the product showing "In Stock" status, but actually being out of stock: that may have been the case in 2005, but as of late 2006, I placed an order on a Wednesday, and with Super Saver shipping got the unit the following Friday.

This is a filter for a (sadly) discontinued countertop unit. I never understood why Pur discontinued the countertop line -it works so well for apartment dwellers like me. As long as the unit continues to function and Pur makes these replacement filters, I''ll keep buying them...it''s a great design.

[Edit: the filter line has been discontinued by the manufacturer apparently after they stopped making the units, they decided to stop making the filters for the existing product in the market. eBay is one option, but there appears to be some confusion regarding model numbers, so buyer/bidder beware.]

Want PUR CTRF-5050L 1 Stage Replacement Filter Discount?

Boooo! Pur has discontinued this filter! I''m very disappointed. We do not like the clunky faucet filters. I don''t understand why they''d quit making the undersink model. Our city has reverse osmosis, so all we need is the stage one filter to remove sediment and chlorine. Now we''re going to have to cap off our undersink dispenser and probably have to go with the clunky faucet one. Not a consumer friendly move by PUR. (I hope the two I ordered are really in stock.)

Aqua Mix Stone Enhancer Save 4% Off

Aqua Mix Stone Enhancer - QuartMy contractor uses this on every slate floor job he does. It does enhance (darken) the colors of the stone as well as seal. Once dry, it isn''t shinythe rocks still look dry. They just have that deep color you''d see if they were wet. I had accidentally bought a different product (that turned out to be just a sealer) to finish another stone floor that I had done myself. There was a big difference. The rocks with the plain sealer were a lot lighter and more dull. Thank goodness I could get that other sealer off by using acetone so that I could still use this enhancer on that floor.

I built an outdoor kitchen and used natural thin veneer stone (excellent stuff from Beuchel Stone btw) to cover the base. The stone looked nice, but lacked depth of color. I didn''t want a "wet" look either, just for the stone to look the way it did when it got wet. This product is perfect. I had about 100 sq ft to cover, and the quart was just about right. Applied easily with a paintbrush, and a towel to dab at the foamy parts. Easy to see where it''s been applied as you do it, and looks perfect in a day or so.

I used the Aqua Mix stone enhancer on a new travertine back splash. I first applied it to a few test tiles, and while it had some effect I was somewhat disappointed. While pondering these results I noticed how much stone dust remained on the tiles from being processed. After thoroughly cleaning a few more test tiles and applying I was very pleased with the results.

To clean the entire back splash I scrubbed it down with a wet scotchbrite pad, then wiped it down with a CLEAN grout sponge. By clean, I mean I would only wipe a very small area before rinsing the sponge. The scotchbrite also did a great job of cleaning up any excess grout I had left behind. Unless you don''t want the colors to come out at all, I think you would really have to do this with just about any natural stone.

While applying I was a little concerned about some grout joints. I kept seeing hairline cracks in the grout where the sealer was penetrating quickly. In other areas the sealer did not seem to be penetrating the grout evenly even where there were no cracks. However, several hours later, everything was nice and even with no issues.

Actual application of the product was easy and I would say it could be applied with just about anything (brush, sponge, high-nap roller, etc.). It is a little on the thick side so applying on a vertical surface isn''t impossible but not too thick. I used about 1/3 of the quart to cover about 35 square feet of 1in X 2in travertine with a 1/2in X 1/2in accent in it, but applied it quite liberally and had a fair amount that had dripped down to my granite counter, where I just wiped it in to the counter.

The final result was essentially all the colors that showed through wile it was wet, but without the glossy finish.

In summary:

It''s extremely important to make sure the tiles are clean and have any stone dust removed prior to application.

The penetration of the sealer will even out over several hours.

Ultimately, this product is only going to reveal the colors present in the stone. Wet your tiles well and that is the color you will end up with, but with a matte finish.

I purchased this stone enhancer for some interior ledge stone I had installed in my living room. After reading the reviews, I thought I should spend the money to get the best quality item. A few days before I applied the enhancer, I cleaned all of the stones with soapy water (dawn dishwashing soap) and microfiber cloths. This really improved the look of the stones. (After installation, they looked chalky and bland.) Days later, I applied the enhancer to a portion of my wall. When first applied, the stone looked wet and dark and I was scared I had made a mistake because they were so dark. The next day I couldnt tell any difference between the stones I had covered and the ones I had not. The liquid is much like a runny Vasoline. I wish I had not spent the money.

I have a sandstone waterfall in my house entrance and after 10 years was beginning to look crappy. I had it cleaned with acid and other cleaners but the stone was still dull. A tile installer recommended stone enhancer so I tried this via Amazon. It came into 2 days. I brushed it on with a paint brush, added a second coat and voila a newly restorred waterfall. Everyone comments how nice the stone looks.

Omega 9000 Juicer Save 21% Off

Omega 9000 JuicerI''m amazed that there aren''t hundreds of five-star reviews for this item. I shopped for a juicer for MONTHS, literally. After painstaking research including reading dozens of reviews like this one, and looking at Consumer Reports I finally decided on the Omega 9000. I wanted the model in black, but shopped at several different websites and couldn''t find a black one. So I settled for the white model. That''s the only negative comment I can make about the entire transaction. Not only is the juicer easy to use and compact (despite what another Amazon reviewer says, it''s much smaller than comparable machines), it''s also backed with a 15-year warranty and excellent service. I had a question in my first week of using the Omega and called the number on the instruction booklet: no recorded message, just a friendly, helpful person. As far as the actual operation/performance of the machine, I couldn''t be happier. All stainless steel, it''s beautiful and sturdy, and built to last that way. A centrifugal machine, it definitely gets all the juice out of the fruits and vegetables. And with the filters (a great value) clean-up takes less than five minutes. Stop looking. This is the one you want. You''ll enjoy fresh juice for (at least) the next fifteen years...

this juicer is still running strong. And I stand by every word of the above review. Definitely buy the filters: they make clean up a breeze.

The Omega 9000 juicer is a good juicer.

I''ve had an Acme 6001 for years and it has served me well. When it was time for a new juicer, I bought the Breville since it was such a "hot item".

Big mistake! Unless you want it to "keep up with the Joneses" and think having a big shiny juicer in your kitchen is more about prestige and less about health, then the Breville is for you.

Back to the Omega. The Omega 9000 makes pulp feel like a shirt. It''s pretty dry.

Big up to Amazon & HealthNut for it''s speedy pick up of the Breville and quick delivery of the Omega (2 days), which is actually well-designed and has good yield.

Now for the cons: carrot residue sticks to the bottom and along the periphery of the basket which goes inside the bowl. It took me a long time to scrub off. Maybe a filter will help, but I never had that problem with the Acme and it was built many moons ago in the 90''s. If it wasn''t for that design flaw, I''d give it another star.

One last thing. Make sure you process the fruit & vegetables in the right order. For some reason, if you put, say, cucumber and parsley first, before the carrot, the juicer will flip out and do a dance on the counter. I experienced this w/ the Acme as well. So go slow at first & read the tips about what to process first & how.

Cheers.

Buy Omega 9000 Juicer Now

This is a great juicer and will last forever. I bought mine about 15 years ago. This is a work horse. I have found filters do the trick. Similar to the Acme but at this point from my research initially and now from experience has better parts. I have replaced the cutting blade once which is good idea to do.....replaced after about 8 years of use...about 20 dollars.

In the beginning I thought filters would somehow diminish the juice in some way and didn''t want to buy an extra item. Omega puts out some unbleached (200 pack) for about 12 bucks. It doesn''t filter out anything (perhaps a little pulp and therefor thinner in texture) but makes it so all residue is put together in one clump.I have also read that the soft stuff with more water like citrus, cucumber, tomato etc. can get imbalanced in the basket and is not recommended if using the filters. The most efficient use for this type of juicer is the harder stuff. I use cukes and other watery veggies but even out things by putting the harder stuff first, and by cutting the softer in smaller slivers and feed slowly with harder stuff in-between. This helps but you may get some vibration. Keep in mind though this is not the type for leafy greens. Parsley, spinach etc. is okay but if you you want wheat grass, or to get the most out of spinach and other leafy types the "champion" type is the way to go. Then you look back at this one and clean up seems like a breeze! From time to time though for what ever reason you will get some thing that imbalances things and then I shut it off and take out the stuff with the filter and put in another one. If you don''t have an attitude about it, it takes less than a minute and then onward. From my experience this is the norm from time to time and filters help in all this. But most of the time there is no problem...just don''t rush things or over load it and things should be fine. Every machine takes a bit of use to get to know it.

Another thing: A lot of talk about all that pulp going to waste...(put it in your compost or there are recipes that use it). Juicing is for specific goals in healing therefor to work right needs the fiber out of the way. It should not be gulped but respected.

To sum up: For a centrifugal type juicer I don''t think there is a better one out there. When you compare though, this should at least be in the line up. 2 stars really does not give this model an accurate view. The quality on the 9000 is amazing. It is based on the 1000 which is more expensive with a plastic top rather than this metal one. And the 9000 has a 15 year guarantee!

I have used some that slow the motor if putting in a carrot. With a good blade (this one really does last for years)a carrot whispers through. 1/3 horse power? I have never had a problem thinking that it was too weak.

I have used this Juicer for about 10 years, and think it works fine. However, a very important adjustment needs to be made to reduce the likelihood of an imbalance (causing the juicer to ''dance'').

First, do note that the blade needs to be changed periodically -with daily use, I find that a blade lasts about 1 year. It can be used after this time, but requires more pressure and draws out the process of juicing considerably.

When you first receive the juicer, and after changing the blade, the height of the blade needs to be adjusted so that it is just below the bottom of the chute for the vegetables -if the gap there is too large, things will slip by, and cause the imbalance. Also, as the blade wears, it is best to raise the blade; this is best done a after a month or two and after 6 months. If the dance starts up again, it is time to re-adjust.

To adjust the height, one needs a slotted screwdriver and either pliers or (better) a wrench. On underside of the juicer, at the center, you will see a screw which is locked in place with a nut. With the juicer fully assembled (blade, cover), loosen the nut (just a bit order of 1/8 turn) with the pliers or wrench. Turn the juicer on for just a tiny moment, so that the blade spins. (If you hear a grinding noise, the blade is already too high -in this case, start with a CCW turn of the screw!) Turn the screw clockwise (to raise the blade) 1/4 turn, and turn on again for a tiny moment. Continue this until you hear scraping of the blade against the chute; then back off 1/4 turn and give it another short on/off cycle. I find it helpful when backing off that 1/4 to ''drop'' the juicer from the height of a few cm or an inch to set the motor down against the screw. Once you have it as high as possible without rubbing, tighten the nut -not too much force is needed (and too much will crack the plastic).

You may choose to do this again after there is some wear on the blade to compensate for the lowered teeth.

I use it without filters; I have a bread dough scraper made of nylon which I cut to just allow me to scrape clean the inside of the metal basket, and that goes quickly and easily.

It will last forever and it does a great job; I also like that the food surfaces are all stainless steel, so no concerns of plastics in the juice.

So, 5 stars, but it requires some attention from the user. No experience with other models.

Want Omega 9000 Juicer Discount?

The good Very powerful motor. I have used 2 other juices, but the Omega 9000 extracts the most juice from fruits and vegetables. The stainless steel parts are also a plus.

The bad The mesh basket design makes pulp removal difficult. The unit gets off balance very easily. I can barely keep it on the counter it wobbles so hard. I have tried sequencing of high moisture and low moisture ingredience, tried timing the input of the ingredients, but I cannot figure out how to prevent the balancing problem. I searched the brand web site and the web in general but have not found any solution. I have not called the manufacturer yet. The motor quick working 8 months after I bought it. I returned it and received a refund. I will not buy another Omega product.

Amana 25-Cubic-Foot Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Amana 25-Cubic-Foot Side-by-Side Refrigerator, ASD2522WRW, White
  • 25.1 Cu. Ft. Total Capacity
  • ENERGY STAR Qualified
  • PUR Water and Ice Filter
  • Temp Assure Freshness Controls
  • Control Lockout

This is a nice looking, fairly standard design side by side refrigerator.

What I like

*It cools down fast. The most remarkable thing about it, to me, was how fast it cooled down. I didn''t have to wait nearly as long to get my food in safely as I did with my GE model, which was 3 years old and very much comparable in look.

*It''s quiet. It runs quietly. All I''ve heard is the ice dumping every now and then. If you dispense ice, it''s loud, but not as loud as my GE was, and it works a lot better. Ice comes out really quickly and is a good shape.

*The shelves are VERY easy to adjust. This rocks. I really liked that I could make myself a small shelf JUST for keeping my vat of bread dough on. There''s also enough shelves that slide in and out, like trays might in a tray cart. This will make it MUCH easier to clean than my old fridge, which had tricky shelves that attacked with a clip at the very back. This is a much more user friendly design will come in GREAT at holidays when I make HUGE trifles in my dish that''s taller than a milk jug.

*Standard size removable door containers. Again, the shelves on the doors are EASY to adjust height, and easy to take off and clean. They fit in like most do these days, and I was able to even use one off my old fridge to add another shelf. Most people wouldn''t need it, it comes with plenty, but I keep a whole assortment of little bottles of hot sauce. Now they have their own shelf. 2 liter bottles and milk fit in the door panels.

*Meat and veggie drawers don''t have extra parts. They are solid, single design. My last fridge had really cool looking handles, which came off promptly in a few months and would never go back on right. This design is easier for cleaning, and there''s no parts to break.

*Ice maker/water easy to install My last fridge had this one that said "DO NOT CRIMP or it may never work right." Well, it got crimped. It never worked right. This one is MUCH easier with no land mines to be found.

What could be a tad better:

*Expensive water filterI thought when it said it used a PUR filter that it used one like I use on my tap. My bad this is one that cost about $38 and supposedly you have to change it twice a year. You can buy them on Amazon in a 2 pack to cut that down to about $58/year but that still seems high to me.

One person I know with a fridge that uses a filter like this says that the expense was so much, he quit using his icemaker because it was cheaper just to buy ice. Hopefully that price will come down in time.

*The ice maker takes up a LOT of space in the freezer. Twice as much as my older GE. But it works a lot better. It''s a tradeoff I can live with.

*The plastic in the door holder/shelves could be a bit heavier. I noticed when I put my old one in that it was much sturdier and felt like it was thicker plastic. You might not notice it, but when you compare it to the GE plastic on the interior components, it''s ok, but it''s not as good.

*I don''t understand the ''lock out'' feature on the door. It keeps you from using the dispenser but it is just two side by side buttons. I think a baby could figure it out, in fact, I''m pretty sure my dog could. It just seems like something extra that I won''t use and that could break.

*The plug that it comes with is SO short, I had to pay extra to get another one. It might not be an issue unless you''ve got an older house. Most plug ins are directly where they should be. In my old house, the kitchen has been modified a bit, so it''s an issue for me. Also, the water hookup kit was for newer hookups, and I had to buy one to fit my older one. It was an extra 28.00 for the cord and the water hookup for me because of my old house. Newer homes shouldn''t have issues like that though. I just thought I''d mention it.

After only 8 months the door shelve parts are failing. I''ll have to order some of the strap/brackets that hold the jars on the door of the fridge in order to get useful service out of this unit for years to come. Not nice. Cheap design. No rough handling either. Just poor quality.

I''ve owned this fridge less than a month, but I love it. This is my first side by side, love the extra room. Ice maker is a bit noisey, I''m sure they all are. Spillsaver glass shelves are a plus. Pur filtered ice and water is also a plus, as my old refrigerator had no water dispenser, and the ice was unfiltered. One thing I might add, the water from the dispenser is not chilled. I''m looking forward to many years of service from this fridge. One other note, Whirlpool and Maytag as well as Magic Chef are divisions of ... that''s right, you guessed it, AMANA.

We''ve had to repair this unit twice since purchasing. The ice maker broke within a year of purchasing and cost us more than $200 to repair. Few years later the motherboard died causing the refrigerator side to not get cold this repair cost us more than $300. Apparently you can''t count on Amana to make a reliable product. We won''t be purchasing anything from them ever again.

One-Sentence Review:

The Amana ASD2522WRW is a very traditional side-by-side refrigerator that should find a happy place in most homes.

Full Review:

I have more experience with side-by-side refrigerators than any other configuration. While they lack horizontal storage space, most platters will fit in the refrigerator and most frozen foods are designed to fit in the relatively narrow freezer. If you have been shopping around at local stores for refrigerators and have not run into this model, it is likely that you have seen others with essentially the same configuration. The side-by-side is ideal for people who want both refrigerator and freezer space at eye level and would like a water/ice dispenser.

REFRIGERATOR COMPARTMENT

The refrigerator compartment is 17.5" wide. There are three movable glass shelves on top and two large clear plastic drawers at the bottom. There are no humidity sliders on those drawers. At the top, there are analog temperature controls for the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The digital controls of many refrigerators look nicer, but I know of no functional reason to prefer them over analog.

The door has four sturdy moveable shelves which are wide enough to store milk or sodas. Unlike the picture on this webpage, the doors that came with mine are white plastic, with no clear areas. There is a standard dairy compartment on top and the hinge on the clear plastic lid seems sturdy. Two lights cast even light throughout, which is a nice plus over the single light of many models.

FREEZER COMPARTMENT

The freezer seems small at first glance. It is 13" wide, which is good for most frozen convenience food, but will not work for freezing casserole dishes or that sort of home-cooked food wthout repackaging it. The ice maker also takes up significant eye-level space. Above it, the top shelf looks a bit dark because the single freezer light is located below. The ice maker does have a door to allow removing ice by hand. This is handy for a few reasons, one being that an ice maker dispenser is often the first thing to break.

There are four wire shelves that can be moved and a bottom tray that can slide out. This tray is really handy and makes the bottom space much more functional. The door has 4 small shelves, also made of white plastic, than can not be moved. Large items will not fit, but they are good for small bags of vegetables or frozen fruit juices.

ICE DISPENSER

Unlike some modern units, the ice and water dispenses out of separate holes. I prefer a single hole, with one flapper to push, but that is a matter of preference. The water is filtered, and when the filter needs replaced, it is an easy process (button pops out old one on bottom of refrigerator). The crushed ice has a great consistency, and is better than any other refrigerator I have used.

An important feature is the ability to bypass the water filter, namely for people who are happy with their tap water quality or can not afford a replacement. Without the bypass, the water pressure would drop as the filter aged. The J.B. Hunt installation (which costs extra) included a water filter and universal water attachment kit. They also installed a long electrical cord, whereas I had a surge protector on my old refrigerator to make the cord reach the outlet.

SOUND

The hum of the refrigerator is pretty standard, with a light dripping noise periodically. It is not loud or distracting. Like all refrigerators I have used, the ice dispenser is loud, particularly for crushed ice.

CLEANING

The shelves are tempered glass, so cleaning them is simple. I spilled some water onto a shelf and found that the "spill-proof" lip kept it from dripping and making a bigger mess. The exterior of the refrigerator cleans up easily with appliance cleaner like Affresh, and the wheels make it easy to roll the refrigerator to clean underneath. Another nice touch is how easy the handles are to remove and put back on.

My refrigerator came with stickers on every shelf that were difficult to remove. I found a serving spatula to be the best at scraping them off without scratching the glass.

CONCLUSIONS

I am very happy with the ASD2522WRW, but nothing about it strikes me as truly exceptional. Rather, it is a safe standard refrigerator, in both configuration and function. The refrigerator and freezer compartments allow for good use of space, with the majority of that space in the refrigerator compartment. While I may not be surprised, I am content.

BUNN BT Velocity Brew 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Home Coffee Brewer Save 20% Off

BUNN BT Velocity Brew 10-Cup Thermal Carafe Home Coffee Brewer, BlackI bought this brewer in October. At first I was very happy with it. Then the carafe started leaking so bad it was ridiculous. I called Bunn a couple of days ago and the lady told me to wash the spout and the seal around the rim with Dawn dishwashing soap (she specifically said Dawn which I happened to have on hand) and the carafe would perform much better. She said that after a number of uses the oil from the coffee keeps the seal from sealing well. I hung up fully expecting to call her back in a few minutes. I washed the carafe as she suggested and it works like new again... no leaks!! If you have this pot, try it, you''ll be amazed at the difference. Now I love this brewer again!

****Update 10-5-11****Unit has died (heating element apparently went out). Now out of warranty since it has been 4 years. On the one had I hate to spend $135+ to get a new one, but on the other hand, once you''ve had one of these things, it''s hard to go back to the traditional coffeemaker. It did make great coffee for 4 years, and I loved having my coffee ready in just a minute or two. Despite the fact that I would have liked to get more than 4 years out of my original purchase, I will probably buy another one.

****Update 2-27-09****

My coffee maker developed a leak. I dusted off my original paperwork, and was very happy to see that this unit comes with a 3 year warranty. I sent it back to Bunn, and they sent me a brand new unit. Painless and relatively quick (less than a week). Yet another reason to buy a Bunn. The only thing I would mention is that I had to pay to have the old unit shipped back to them. Cost me $13 UPS, so it''s not really that big a deal, but I just have this old fashioned notion that if something is covered by warranty, it shouldn''t cost the consumer a penny to get it fixed or replaced.

****Original Review****

I don''t see why anyone would buy a traditional glass carafe coffeemaker. The heating element scorches the coffee after about 15-20 minutes, so if you haven''t finished the pot by then, you end throwing the rest away. At least I used to, until I discovered thermal carafes years ago.

I really like this coffeemaker. I am a big coffee drinker, and I usually make 1 pot in the morning, 1 pot in the afternoon, and 1 pot at night. The quality of the coffee that it brews is excellent, and I like the fact that the coffee is ready in 3 minutes.

A few other observations:

-I have not had any problem with the carafe. No spills or dribbles, and it keeps the coffee piping hot for a good 90 minutes, and then drinkably hot for another 2 hours. I especially like the fact that you don''t need to open and close the lid to pour the coffee. The lids stays in the closed position while the coffee is brewing and it stays in the closed position when you pour it from the carafe.

-I have not had any problem with the basket overflowing or grinds in my coffee, but I have noticed that the grinds rise up to the tippy top of the filter, and I use Bunn filters which are a little taller than most. Although I have not had a problem myself, I can see where someone who likes an extra strong brew and adds a little more coffee might have an issue. For me it works, and I use about 10 tablespoons of coffee per full pot.

-I don''t particularly like the automatic feature that starts the brewing cycle as soon as you close the lid to the water chamber. I would prefer to have a button to press, but its not a huge deal for me. Like another reviewer, I can see potential disaster if I have company or overnight guests and they want to make the coffee, and I haven''t briefed them on how the machine works.

-Price is high when compared to the Mr. Coffee type machines with glass carafes, but I really do notice a difference in the taste of the coffee when I visit friends and they break out their $30 coffee maker after dinner. I think the price is a fair price for what you get, and although I haven''t had it long enough to comment on its durability, Bunn typically makes products that stand up over time.

-The entire machine does have a rather large footprint, and it is bit taller than many coffeemakers. I have alot of counter space and my cabinets are high, so its not an issue for me, but do yourself a favor and take 30 seconds to measure the space where you intend to put the machine to make sure it will fit nicely.

Overall, if you''re into good coffee, and you''re willing to spend the money, and you''re willing to overlook a few very minor flaws (see above) I would highly recommend this machine.

We purchased this to replace an aging Mr. Coffee. The Mr. Coffee was programmable, which was nice when I remembered, but when I didn''t it could take nearly 20 minutes to brew a pot. That is a long wait in the morning. We considered this or the Braun programmable, which appeared to be rated well, but I couldn''t determine how long it took to brew. I knew I wanted speed.

I got speed. This thing is fast. By two and a half minutes its down to waiting on the last drips to come out of the basket. The coffee''s flavor is excellent, but a little weaker than I like. I upped the amount of coffee to the recommended tbsp per cup (which would yield very bitter coffee on other machines I''ve had) and its back to where I like it. A darker roasted coffee would also add a lot of strength. I enjoy the fact that the coffee doesn''t sit on a burner and cook too. The carafe has done a great job of keeping the coffee hot for hours at a time. I''ve had no real trouble about the carafe dripping.. this may be because the Mr. Coffee trained me to go slower to avoid such drips.

Another point: I checked and the Bunn filters ARE taller than my others. The coffee grinds do get pretty high on the filter, so I can imagine that getting off-brand filters would get you grinds in your coffee. Just buy the Bunn filters at your local megamart. They''re not that expensive. Also, decaf and/or finely ground coffee does sometimes overflow the filter anyway. The manual mentions this and offers a free replacement sprayhead to improve this. We don''t drink a huge amount of decaf, so I don''t think we''ll ask for it.

I''ve tried some premium coffees again, and am happy to report that they are worth it now. A good coffeemaker does make a difference in the quality of the coffee.

Pros: Very fast. Coffee tastes very good. No burning the coffee on the carafe warmer. Keeps the coffee hot. Did I mention fast?

Cons: Coffee seems a tad weak. Very finely ground coffee, and decaf, sometimes overflow the filter a bit. I wish it had a button to press to brew instead of closing the top.. I foresee a big mess if company is up before me (It starts pouring coffee out the basket as soon as you close the lid, you HAVE to have the carafe in place).

Would I have been happy with the Braun? Probably. But I bet its not as fast, and after years of inadequate coffeemakers, I''m happy to have one this quick, and making coffee this good.

We received this coffeemaker as an upgrade when our last Bunn was recalled due to a manufacturing defect. (NB: Bunn has excellent customer service and is conscientious about recall notifications, and I recommend the company highly. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product.) We have been fans of Bunn coffeemakers for years; our first home machine provided us with at least 14,000 pots of fresh, hot coffee before it succumbed to the ravages of time and Minnesota''s hard water. We tried very hard to like this model, but ultimately its flaws outweighed its benefits, and we are now shopping for a new coffee maker. The flaws include:

An incredibly drippy carafe. There does not seem to be any way to predict when it will drip or in which direction. Sometimes only a few drops fall from the carafe; sometimes, it spills 1/4 to 1/2 cup of coffee across the countertop.

The internal assembly (which Bunn fans will know is cleaned with a tightly coiled metal reaming spring) is much more difficult to clean in this unit than in our past ones.

This model also seems far less forgiving of our hard water than previous ones and requires cleaning much more frequently. We''ve had trouble with calcium buildup even with softened water in both the brewer and the lid of the carafe. This and the completely opaque carafe (in combination with our increasing age and forgetfulness) have led to some huge messes in the kitchen, with coffee running over and even into the cabinets below the coffee maker.

Like most thermal carafes, this one does not keep the coffee warm enough for us, and we go through coffee very quickly. I don''t see this working at all for most people.

On the brighter side, you will have a fast cup of coffee most of the time, and you will be doing business with a company that deserves its good reputation. If you ask me, though, I''d suggest you buy the model without the thermal carafe unless you own stock in a paper towel company.

This brewer surprised me a little when I received it. First of all, it is fairly difficult to figure out because it holds two pots of water at a time. For most of us, this is a strange concept. However, it works well because one pot''s worth of water stays hot all the time and the other that you pour in, replenishes the hot water in the lower chamber. It seems like a waste of enrgy to me so I put it on a timer to keep it from sitting there at 170 degrees or so all the time.

It brews a great pot of coffee at the proper temperature unlike many thermal carafe units.

All in all a great unit. But if you don''t do well at programming VCRs than this isn''t the unit for you. This is unit is probably geared more toward commercial or constant use. It brews a pot of coffee FAST as in three minutes because the water is already hot.

The carafe itself is very well made if not a bit tricky at first. You use your thumb to push the top part of the handle counterclockwise while holding the handle in your hand to get the top started so you can open it. Again, a little counter intuitive at first but very well made.

I like the Bunn better than any coffee maker I have owned, ever, but be prepared to have to give multiple lessons on its use to other family members.

my apartment had the worsted tap water I ever tasted, part mold, part chlorine, part I don''t even want to know. I have used a number of pitchers and faucet mounted filters and this one isn''t as good as some. That said I never started with tap water this bad. It should be noted that ever time I fill up the water pitcher the better the water taste.

In the end the water in the fridge right now tastes fine.. I am very happy with the product, it isn''t the biggest and may not be the best, but the long filter life is a great value to me. I might get a second one because I am drinking a lot of water now.

I really wasted my money buying these filters. One of them fell apart as soon as I opened the plastic wrap and the other doesn''t do a good job of filtering tap water at all. It leaves little white bits of something floating in the water and lining the bottom of the pitcher. And yes, I carefully followed the instructions to soak the filter and then dump the first few pitchers full. I''m switching to another brand and a different pitcher.

I''ve had NONE of the issues that Robert C mentioned. The water goes through fine, even after 4/5 months, and the taste is still great. Another review mentioned the design of the spout, etc., and, YES, they are right it''s not the best design I''ve ever seen. If you just upend it quickly it will spill water as the spout sticks and then it suddenly rushes out. I''ve learned to pour more slowly, and be happy with the benzene that I''m NOT getting. I did a comparison, and Crystal Quest filters out way more bad stuff than Brita (which we had before).

Want Crystal Quest CQE-RC-04047 Pitcher Filter Cartridge Discount?

I used the Crystal Quest pitcher for about 6 weeks and it was 6 weeks too many. This pitcher is poorly designed. It is small, narrow and the capacity is not even close to the 10 cups they claim when the filter reservoir is present. The spout is too narrow so it pours slowly. Water glugs out and splashes all over if you tilt it too far. The lid must be held with your free hand when pouring or it will eject if any water is present in the reservoir. The handle is too narrow and is not comfortable to hold, especially when full.

Even worse than the design of the pitcher, the filters only lasted for a few weeks! I went through three filters in the six weeks I used this piece of junk! Yes, you read that right. The first day, your water will flow through quickly. The second day, it slows noticeably. By the fourth day, it starts to take a LONG time to pass the water through the filter. By the end of two weeks, it could no longer pass a full reservoir of water through the filter within 12 hours! Seriously!!! It would literally only pass about 3 drips of water per minute through the filter after only a few weeks. I can''t use that!!! Who can? It was insane! I am one person. I was not even close to using the filter''s claimed capacity of 2,000 gallons! I went through THREE filters!! I thought maybe the first one was defective, but after the same performance from all three, that was it. Completely unacceptable.

As if that wasn''t enough, another troubling issue is the fact that the filters are put together with some kind of glue or adhesive. Seems to me like a bad idea to expose the water I''m supposed to be drinking to a chemical adhesive instead of using plastic tabs to hold the filter cartridges together. What rocket scientist designed that?

I recommend that you stay away from this product. I was using Britta for many years before this, and I have now switched to Pur. The Pur filter pitcher is superior in every way to this (and the Britta I had), and I have not experienced any issues.

Works well. Needs replacing more than every six months, however, unless you don''t require much water. And everyone should drink more water.

CQE-PI-00601 Blue

CQE-PI-00601 BlueAfter I bought it, I used a particle indicator to measure the difference in the faucet water and the filtered water, and no difference was found. Also, when I called the company (Not, Amazon, but Crystal Quest), I asked if I could get a refund on my shipping as well since I was returning the product because it did not work. At the time, I was told that I could receive my shipping if I send an email with the shipping cost. However, after I hadn''t heard back from them for two weeks, I called back and was told that it was not their policy to return shipping cost (even if the product didn''t work). So after I was told that my shipping cost would be refunded, it was not! Very Bad Costumer Service! (Again, not with Amazon, but with the makers of this product).

I have been looking for a water filter that doesn''t connect to the faucet. (I had a faucet-attached one before, and it eventually caused so much back-pressure that it wore out the gasket on the faucet. In addition, it took forever for the water to work its way through the filter, so it took a long time to get even one glass of water.

This unit eliminates all of those problems. What I especially like about it is that it eliminates more impurities that other similar pitcher filter products. Also, very easy to use.

I researched Reverse Osmosis water systems for sometime before I decided to buy a Tap Master. I went with their ''Artesia''n model that adds some minerals back to the water for alkalinity the unit is the same as this one other than that. I buy products online but to spend this much money and have a product shipped from someone I really did not know was scary. We have a small kitchen and I was concerned about it fitting under the counter and about instillation. Everything went well and the company was very helpful. It has been over a year and my husband and I have been extremely pleased with the unit. The taste is great, the unit has great water pressure and flow and we use it daily and love it. We did have a handy man that works for us install it but he thought it was easy. Pure water is so important to your health ! It is worth the investment. Highly recommended.

Update:

Well we are into our 3rd year with this system and still really pleased. We change the filter annually and this year just to be safe we ordered an upgrade to our filter a tiny bit to protect the unit from chlorimides our city has been considering adding. I had asked about the PH normally produced from this system and was told 7. Due to all the craze I''d been reading about alkalinity I had been buying some high PH (9+) bottled water in addition to our using our filtered water for cooking. I mentioned that when I called and was told that the high PH waters do not really add to health and that I can feel confident just using my filtered water. I have confidence that these folks really know water and appreciate that while they are very knowledgeable they do not try to over ''sell'' you. I think a good solid product at a good price and good service.

Honeywell QuietCare 3-Gallon UV Tower Humidifier Save 5% Off

Honeywell QuietCare 3-Gallon UV Tower Humidifier, HCM-300TWe bought two of these in fall 06. After two months use, one of the units had a fan failure. It ran noisily for a few days prior to the failure, then ground to a halt. I called Kaz''s customer service (the Honeywell name is licensed), and they agreed to send me a new one free. After five months use, the second unit failed in exactly the same way. This time, customer service required me to pay $20 for a new one to be shipped, and they required in each case the return of the defective one at my cost for shipping. They are simply NOT durable! We now have one in service, with the other as a backup since we anticipate a product failure this winter. One other thing: they are awkward to fill. The water chamber has a curved bottom so it will not sit flat in your sink. You have to balance it with one hand, and operate the faucet and put on the lid with the other. This design defect is SO obvious it makes you wonder how function followed form in product design. You also need a fairly deep sink or a tall spigot to fill it without tipping it and spilling. The filling problem is aggravating since you need to fill it at least twice daily. As far as ability to humidify, it works reasonably well, and is fairly quiet. But I wouldn''t recommend this unit at all after living with it.

When I first started looking for a humidifier (my wife''s asthma tended to flare up in coughing fits when the humidity dropped), I realized that there seemed to be no such thing as a "perfect humidifier"! After reading through as many reviews as possible, I realized that I wanted one that needed minimal cleaning, was pretty easy to fill, wasn''t too loud and did a job of raising the humidity for a fairly large area (about 1200 sq.ft) without leading to other side effects (micro dust, mold and bacteria proliferation etc.). After ruling out "warm mist humidifiers" due to the heavy cleaning needs, "ultrasonic humidifiers" due to the micro dust generation, and "in line humidifiers" due to the intensive upfront installation labor requirements, I settled on the "cool mist" HCM-300T. It promised quiet operation, cleaning needs of only once a month (the UV light is supposed to reduce 99% of bacteria growth) and the capability to humidify "medium to large" areas as for the filling, I had come to the conclusion that no portable humidifier would help that daily chore!

The HCM-300T worked pretty well for the first 3 weeks wife loved it since her sleep was much better, without any coughing whatsoever. However, given the absence of a built-in hygrometer, I could never figure out exactly how much of the work was being done by the HCM and how much by Mother Nature. Also, filling the water container every night turned out to be quite the juggling experience since it hasn''t been designed to stand upright on its own ....in other words, you are going to have to be standing right beside it, holding it in position! On the positive side, the water seemed to stay fresh without any mold/bacteria, even though I didn''t engage in any cleaning during the 3 weeks. However, during Week 4, while carrying the water container back after a refill, the lid came off (unfortunately it has been designed such that the handle of the water container is on the lid!) and the container fell down into the tub with a thud, waking up my worried wife! On further inspection, I didn''t notice any leaks, so having reassured my wife that I hadn''t broken any bones, I refilled the container, gingerly carrying it back to the base unit. To my dismay, when the unit was switched on, water started spraying out of the bottom of the unit through the slots that normally cool moist air flows through and soon I had water all over the carpeting. Not sure whether this was triggered by the fall, but the water leakage never stopped from then on. Needless to say I had to return the unit!!

Based on this experience, I have added three more items to my "must-have" list: a built in hygrometer (that way I can actually judge performance on those really dry days), a rugged water container (so it can outlast the tumbles that I am certain it will be taking!) and a unit that has its air outflow from the top rather than the bottom, making sure that water doesn''t leak out due to gravity. Wish me luck!!

Buy Honeywell QuietCare 3-Gallon UV Tower Humidifier Now

The only positive thing I can say about this humidifier is that it looks better than those big boxy ones. Oh, and I guess the fact that ours hasn''t leaked on the floor (like some other reviewers have had) could be considered a positive. It usually doesn''t even last a whole night before running out of water and it''s not like I live in the desert...our house can''t be THAT dry. Yet, the room is still dry and we still wake up with sore throats and dry skin. We''ve had other humidifiers that worked fine, and I''m noticing that those usually shot the humidified air out the top (you know...into the air!). This one shoots the humidified air out near the floor, so it would take 3 days for the room to fill with humid air. The thing rarely shuts off unless the outside air is more humid on that particular day. Speaking of shutting off...doesn''t this thing have an automatic shut off when it runs out of water?? Ours NEVER shuts off, so when it runs out of water the fan dries up the filter (which you aren''t supposed to do). So every night I have to refill the tank and re-soak the filter (which you''re also not supposed to do, but I''m not putting in a new $10 filter every night). We haven''t been bothered by the noise...it''s what you''d expect from any other fan. It''s just a constant hum that we kind of like since it drowns out other outside noises.

Pros

Humidity increased 10% all over the room

Big tank.

Large hole to fill tank.

Small footprint

No dust

Looks good compared to most.

Great price for such a big improvement.

Cons

Filter needed changing within 1 month.

Breeze from fan is quite chilly, but we have it facing a direction away from seating area.

Putting the tank back can be a little cumbersome. It''s easier if it is on a low surface.

Awkward to fill tank because it has a slanted top, you either have to prop it up or hold it the whole time.

We have tried 10+ humidifiers and nothing could compete with this, even a $200+ humidifier. Considering how much better the house feels it was worth every penny plus more.

Want Honeywell QuietCare 3-Gallon UV Tower Humidifier Discount?

After reading the previous reviewer''s comments I was quite surprised. This humidifier changed the humidity in my entire 1 bedroom apartment from 48% to 60% in less than 1 hour. It only uses 1/2 of the tank of water over a 15-hr period. I didn''t experience a browning tank or filter, although I filled the tank with filtered water purposefully so it wouldn''t have to be cleaned as often. I hardly notice it when it cycles on because it is so quiet. It does cycle on and off but usually stays on for about 60-90 min and then off for the same amount of time. Perhaps the last reviewer didn''t notice a change in humidity because his room was already at 60% this is the upper limit the humidifier can reach according to the manufacturer. There are no wet spots on my floor, no condensation on the windows, and no white dust from metals in the water vapor. The only thing I was a little disappointed about is that if the fan is facing you, it can make you a little chilly, but not enough to really bother me. It was very easy to set up, and I love that it doesn''t look like an awkward box sitting in the middle of the room. Would definitely recommend it without reservation.
