Royal Berkey Water Filter With 4 Black Filters & 4 PF-2 Fluoride Filters

Royal Berkey Water Filter With 4 Black Filters & 4 PF-2 Fluoride FiltersThis filter is just plain awesome.

The initial cost is higher yes, you looking at say 600 bucks for a 4 filter/4 pf-2 unit.

But its built solid, it looks good and it works.

No grime, fluoride and no constant changing of filters for a long long time.

Each black filter is rated at around 3000 gallons, each pf2 fluoride is rated at 1000.

So my unit with 4 of each would last me 4000 gallons on the pf2''s and around 12000 gallons on the black filters.

Now 4000 gallons of drinking water for the cost of around 50-60 bucks a filter, is not bad at all.

Especially when you look at the over the counter brittas and the like which cannot compete in the jobs they do, and for the quantity of water filtered, they cannot compete in price either.

Make the initial cost up front for one of these that will last you a life time and have far better water at a far better price.

I can''t believe I haven''t given my review yet. This is the 2nd Berkey water filter I''ve gotten because we lost the first in a house fire. I love my Berkey. I always want to have a Berkey. They work great!

I buy these filters from Amazon. Sometimes they send me the Purenex item. Sometimes they sent me the FLOW-PRO brand. And then at other times they choose to actually send me the iSpring item. Most of them are lighter than the Culligan brand and seem to break apart easier at times, with the exception of the FLOW-PRO item, also sold under the ''''iSpring'''' and ''''Purenex'''' listings on Amazon, which seems to be the best quality.

In summary, if Amazon can commit to selling the FLOW-PRO item to you, whether marketed either as ''''iSpring'''' or ''''Purenex'''', then I would recommend purchasing that FLOW-PRO item for sure!

  • Snaps on in one easy step

I''ve been using the Brita faucet mount for 2 years now. Our water is VERY hard, with sulfur smells and rust, and the Brita works as well as our reverse osmosis unit, which has three in-line filters. Plus, it doesn''t slow down like the reverse osmosis unit does when using lots of water (family gatherings, etc). It is NOT as fast as normal tap water, so don''t go thinking you''ll get tap-water speed out of such an intense filter. I have to replace the filter approximately every 2-3 months, depending on usage. Very handy when the r/o unit starts running out of water. I tend to use both the r/o and the Brita when filling a pot for boiling, etc just to make it go faster. I''ve used both the PUR and Brita, Brita works better on our water, although, for best taste, I also run it through a pitcher filter (as I said, our water is BAD). Tastes better than spring water!

This filter is much easier to use than some other faucet-mount models. Installing the filter system is relatively easy, and replacing filters is even easier. Amazon''s price (for filter system as well as replacement filters) is the lowest I could find online or retail, especially when I get "super saver" free shipping. The only problem with my filter system is the green "filter-is-in-use-and-is-working" indicator light occaisionally stops lighting up for a few days at a time, but then works fine again. I''m not sure whether or not this means that the red "time-to-change-filter" light comes on later than it should. But so far it hasn''t bothered me enough to call customer service...

We previously used PUR filters on our kitchen faucet but their effectiveness declined more and more so we decided to switch to Brita. We are very satisfied with Brita. The filtered water tastes about the same but the Brita lasts longer, is cheaper and easier to replace on the faucet.

Want Brita On Tap Faucet Water Filter System Replacement Filters Discount?

We live in a rural area and the water often develops some combination of cloudiness, odor and flavor. We do not want to drink tap water with any of those features.

We have tried the other brands of faucet mounted filters. While none of them, including the Brita, are perfect, we do like the Brita the best. The replacement filters are easy to install and last a comparable amount of time to those of their competitors that we have tried.

We make heavy use of filtered water: drinking, coffee pot, water for tea, etc. adds up to about five gallons a day. Combined with the less than cleanest water to begin with, we change filters more frequently than many but the advertised 100 gallon mark seems about right.

Do check Amazon''s prices for these filters. They change very, very often. Sometimes the two pack is the better deal, sometimes two of the one pack is cheaper. I start checking a few weeks before we''re about to run out so I can get lower prices and the difference can be significant.

Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Mr. Coffee BVMC-SJX33 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Brushed ChromeI replaced my Cuisinart with this about two months ago and found it to be as advertised and reflective of most of the other reviews. Attractive unit that brews an excellent pot of coffee. I retired 13 years ago from the Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. I like a good cup of Joe that can be construed as a bit strong. My wife enjoys her coffee at a more civilized and nonnuclear level. This machine accommodates both. It does have one minor flaw in that the pot dribbles a bit when pouring. This small flaw can, however, be mitigated by thumbing open the lid while pouring your coffee.

This coffee maker works very well, especially as a replacement to two cheaper coffee makers that I had before that leaked, and the price is unbeatable.

This model SJX33GT is the simpler version of BVMC-SJX33GT; without the cleaning cyle option. This model does have the option of using the metal decanter which is sold separately. I intend to buy the metal decanter or replacement glass carafe, because every time I pour a cup of coffee; it drips on the counter. Other members of the household have commented on this, so it is not just how I am pouring it.

Except for this leaking problem, the coffemaker is ideal in everyway. It''s a shame.

This thing is actually pretty cool and casts some decent light. It extends your faucet''s length by about 2 inches. It really does change with the water temp, and even better, helps cast some light on the dishes. It''s actually convenient. Not sure about durability, but the install was easy with no leaks. We picked this style over the others because the LED lens protrudes a little from the silver shaft, which seems to give the illusion of casting more light. Nice! Now sometimes I''ll do a few dishes in the dark why?because I can! Fun! Happy! ;oD

I gave this item 2 stars for 3 reasons:

~Apparently this item is powered by water pressure. I have a well and we don''t have a lot of pressure, so it barely lights up.

~It is supposed to be temperature-sensitive as follows: Blue=Cold, Green=Warm, Red=Hot, Flashing Red=Steaming Hot. In actuality, green=cold & blue=warm and the red is sporadic.

Fun novelty item, but not especially useful for us to keep our 3-year-old from being scalded when washing her hands.

Also, within a couple weeks the plastic threads were stripped and the faucet sprayed water all over my wall.

I would recommend this item as it is inexpensive and fun, but again, not very useful.

Pentek 158117 1/4" #10 Slim Line Clear Filter Housing

Pentek 158117 1/4'' #10 Slim Line Clear Filter Housing

  • Initial pressure drop of 2 psi at a flow rate of 3 gpm
  • Maximum temperature of 125 degrees F (51.7 degrees C)

This worked for my purpose... it does seem to be prone to leak if you move it or bump it (or even lightly touch the pressure release button). However, since it''s usually stationary, it didn''t really matter.

I use it to filter oil and works great. They are the same quality as the $30 ones at the box stores.

I purchased this for my CO2 laser, which uses a steady water-flow to keep the laser tube cool. After moving to my new facility, I plugged everything in and noticed there was scale and particles floating inside my $1000+ laser tube. It was cool, since it was evidence that water was actually circulating but floaties inside expensive equipment is just wrong.

Once I connected the filter (and cartridge, sold separately), within 5 minutes (less actually), the water inside the laser tube was crystal clear and the black floaties where hugging the cartridge.

Will I be tasting the quality of this water? No, but it definitely is an improvement for my application.

A side note, anyone installing a water filtration system should understand about water quality before jumping in. There is a ton of online literature but understand it before installing.

For instance, filtering water can become corrosive. Unfiltered water can cause scale in delicate equipment like espresso machines and tea brewers.

1 Gallon Goof Off Rust Stain Remover GSX00101 Save 80% Off

1 Gallon Goof Off Rust Stain Remover GSX00101I just purchased this product today and used it on the side of our house where the sprinkler had really messed up our white trim. I poured the entire gallon into my pressure sprayer and went to work. The rust began dissapearing in seconds. I was skeptical and waited to see if it would come back but it didn''t. I sprayed our trim, the siding, the plastic lattice strips and the rust just dissolved right away.

I still have more to do so I am purchasing another gallon but this stuff is tremendous.

I''ve struggled with rust buildup on my driveway and sidewalks for 8 years. The amount of iron in my well water is huge and cleaning it is a monthly task all summer long. I normally make up a mixture of Ironout and water (1 cup per gallon) and this does a reasonable job. With RustAid there is no mixing and the solution not only disolves all the rust it adds a whitening effect to the concrete that eventually washes away. I highly recommend this product.

Buy 1 Gallon Goof Off Rust Stain Remover GSX00101 Now

I used this on concrete on a home built in 2010. I didn''t know I had to sweep away scott''s fertilizer off of concrete so it ended up leaving prange rusts stains from the iron in the fertilizer on the concrete after our sprinkler''s water mixed with the fertilizer causing the stains. Bought this product based on the reviews. This product did make the concrete white but didn''t do anything to the orange rust stains like described. I used as directed and even used a hard steel bristle brush to scrub the orange stains out with this product but it did not work. A problem that I had after using this product was that certain parts of my driveway were left white and the parts that none of this was used on left dirty so i suggest buying a considerable amount for application if you plan on just whitening your concrete. I would suggest in looking into muriatic acid also called hydrochloric acid for orange rust stains as which I am doing of right now. There is a youtube video just youtube how to etch concrete video 2 i believe and watch it and also search on how to use muriatic acid on concrete and there are different websites that have tutorials. Do it the right way the first time though and it will save you time. my first application of muriatic acid i didn''t neutralize it. it did take off the rust stains but since i didn''t neutralize it it left the concrete a brown color which means the concrete still has the acid on it neutralizing it with baking powder and water to a safer ph level will make it white. i learned the hard way don''t forget to use protective gear and a watering can to spread it evenly over concrete and be sure to keep the diluted muriatic acid wet until neutralization. a pressure washer from home depot with 1800 psi and 1.4 gpm worked just fine for me.

The product does wonders on rust and hard water build up. I use it on the tub and toilets and it makes all the stains disappear.

Want 1 Gallon Goof Off Rust Stain Remover GSX00101 Discount?

I was skeptical about the product working as well as advertised, but it worked great removing rust stains from white vinyl siding with no elbow grease needed. Just spray on and wait about 3 to five minutes and the stain disappears via a chemical reaction, then use a garden hose to rinse down the area. There are a few warnings on the bottle to wet shrubs before and after using the product near them, wearing rubber gloves and eye protection(product contains an acid). You should avoid wetting the siding before using the product, the siding near the shrubs got wet and the product did not work as quickly in that area, so I waited for it to dry and reapplied and it worked great. I have no reservations about recommending this product and will buy it again.

Austin Air Healthmate Jr. Air Purifier

Austin Air Healthmate Jr. Air Purifier - SandstoneThis is a no frills HEPA air filter in terms of its aesthetic: it''s an efficiently designed rectangle, and though it''s not snazzy on the outside, it''s not offensive or obtrusive either.

It sits in my home office, and does its thing quite well: cleansing the air, and overall improving the living conditions in a space in which I spend entirely too much time.

I ordered this unit because I had begun to develop dust allergies in my mid-thirties and was having trouble focusing and getting work done. I noticed an improvement in the way I was feeling shortly after the unit was put into operation.

The unit, though not cheap, is a particularly reliable model and is extremely cost-effective to operate over time. As any one who has done the research can tell you, the true expense with HEPA filters is not necessarily the up-front purchase cost, but the cost of replacement filters over the course of the years. Austin''s design is one they stand behind with a 5 year warranty, and a filter rated at needing replacement once every 5 years... yes, you read that right. All you need do in order to achieve this longevity is to vacuum the pre-filter every few months. This is accomplished by running a bristled vacuum wand over the outer surface grating. It''s simple. It really is: set a reminder in your calendar to run the vacuum over it and you''re safe.

The unit doesn''t take up a lot of room, though it does produce a fair bit of sound in 2 of its 3 settings. The base setting is actually pretty quiet, but the middle and upper settings are noisy the trade off is that at these settings it moves A LOT of air, which is what you want if you''re trying to quick cleanse a room. To give you an idea of what I''m trying to say, while you likely wouldn''t have a hard time sleeping with setting 1, you might with setting 2, and you DEFINITELY would with setting 3. Of course, everyone''s mileage varies and I''m using words to describe an audible volume, which is not the same as hearing it yourself. As I said earlier: it''s in my office, not my bedroom, so I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER with its performance.

If you''re looking for a bedroom model, you might look into an Alen A350 HEPA Air Purifier (wall mountable and quieter.)

We Live in a small apt. with no exhaust fans and because of wood stoves are unable to open windows in the winter months. This unit helps with the air quality and makes the place much more livable. It even helps with odors. The size is good and even on high speed it isn''t really annoying. We had a good experience with sales and delivery too.

This purifier (Austin Healthmate Jr.) seems to be a very good purchase for the money. Although it is not cheap, we are using it in a loft and it seems to be doing a great job with the air not only in the loft but also in the living room which is below the open-air loft.

CRYSTAL QUEST® Undersink Replaceable Triple Multi ULTIMATE Water Filter System Save 40% Off

CRYSTAL QUEST® Undersink Replaceable Triple Multi ULTIMATE Water Filter System
  • Eagle Redox Alloy® is a major advancement in water treatment technology that works on the electro-chemical and spontaneous-oxidation-reduction (REDOX) principles. Chlorine is instantaneously and almost inexhaustibly oxidized
  • Installs neatly under the sink. Comes with an attractive faucet and all necessary installation hardware.
  • Conveniently provides 30,000 gallons of water. (3-5 years, or when the flow of water will automatically either stop or slow down greatly.)
  • Please note: When considering installation, if current under sink plumbing is hard copper tubing the saddle valve would be used; for flex tubing the T-valve would be required. Saddle valve is sent with order unless T-valve is specified.
  • Dimensions: 15"L x 14"H(10"+ 4" tochange cartridge) x 5"W

I installed this to my PEX plumbing. The sadle valve you get with it is not good for PEX, so if you have PEX plumbing, you''ll need to buy what you need. Unfortunately, the water tasted worse from the filter than from my tap. I contacted the seller. They suggested I contact Crystal Quest. Crystal Quest said that my area (Southern PA) has "hard" water and this is what causes the issue. They suggested two things to try: (1) slow down the flow through the unit by partially closing the valve to the input side or (2) replacing the sediment filter with a Cation filter and re-ordering the filters. I tried the first and so far it''s working though the flow is somewhat reduced. I was a bit hesitant to spend even more money on this by adding the Cation filter cartridge. I suggest that if you plan to install one of these, go to Home Depot or someplace and get a water testing kit and have your water tested. Then contact someone like Crystal Quest and ask them what you need. If your water is "hard" (6.7 to 8.2 grains per gallon), this unit is not the way to go as is.

I accidentally ordered this product instead of the crystal quest ceramic triple water filter, which is identical except it has a ceramic filter instead of carbon. This vendor was very understanding, and immediately corrected the problem by allowing an exchange of one of the filters to a ceramic filter at no cost. They sent me the new filter first and I put the other filter in the box and mailed it back with no additional freight cost. First of all, the quality of this filter, with the ceramic version, is five-star. Add to it great customer service and you have an unbeatable combination.

BISSELL Steam Sponge Save 8% Off

BISSELL Steam Sponge, Titanium, 39F1The size of this steamer makes it very easy to use. It''s light weight, even when filled with water and it has a very long cord, about 18 feet by my rough measurements. I like this because it makes it easy to move around the kitchen or bathroom with it or wherever it''s needed. (My next job will be some outdoor furniture.) It''s important to keep it mind that a steam cleaner doesn''t pick up dirt, so you need to vacuum or go over the area you''re cleaning with a cloth first and pick up any loose debris. What it does do, and does it pretty well, is to loosen tough stains with very hot steam and sanitizes the area that you''re cleaning. You don''t use detergents or cleaners with this Bissell Steam Sponge, just water. (I like this!) But that means it has some limitations. For example, when I used it to clean my oven it reduced most of the baked on crud to a liquid that I was able to wipe off with a damp cloth. I used it on the window on the oven door and it got some of the stuff off, but much will have to be scrubbed with baking soda to totally remove it.

One thing about steam is that it''s drippy. You end up with water on the surface you''re cleaning and you''ll probably drip some on the floor if you''re cleaning an oven. Since there''s no vacuum effect to the steamer, you have to go over it with a cloth to dry it. It works better for some things than for others. It did quite a nice job on the soap scum on shower doors. It didn''t get every last spot but in just a few minutes it got more off with less effort than just scrubbing it by hand would have done. I wish there was a button that could be pushed to supply a steady supply of steam rather than having to continually squeeze the trigger on the handle. I don''t know if this is a safety issue or what, but I could see it being difficult if someone had problems with their hands.

This is also a small steamer and is meant for small jobs. It wouldn''t be suitable for floors because it would take forever unless you have a very small room. It is good for spot cleaning grout on tile floors. I had one spot in my kitchen that just wouldn''t come clean and this got the dirt out.

You can hold the steamer in any direction but if you hold it upside down, the water won''t connect with the valve it goes through so you won''t get new steam. It did a great job on the microwave which I wanted to include on the video, but my microwave hangs above the stove and trying to hold the camera and move the steamer was too clumsy. And the camera lens ended up all steamy so you''ll just have to take my word for it.

I hope the video is helpful to you if you''re looking for a small steamer. Thank you for watching it.

Once I figured out how to pop out the water tank it was pretty simple to set up the steam sponge and get it working. It generates the steam quickly, very little wait time. I like the long cord, great for use in a bathroom. I would definitely recommend using distilled water if you have hard water like me. Speaking of hard water, I thought that with a white vinegar/distilled water mix that perhaps I''d finally be able to get the hard water spots off my shower doors. Sadly, no go. Perhaps I''m one of the unlucky ones to have extremely hard water. It doesn''t seem to do much to my soap scum either. Trying to clean my bathroom sinks & faucets were difficult due to the shape of the Steam Sponge. Like another reviewer remarked, there''s a problem with getting the steamer to go where you need it to. Back to the usual bathroom cleaner and scrubber for me.

The Bissell Steam Sponge was great for the hard to reach spots on my linoleum around the toilet. It took up a couple of very stubborn spots that I''d had trouble with when using a mop. I also have an older style cooktop, with those annoying ridges/trim/etc. that previously I had to use an old toothbrush on. The steam sponge, using the concentrated steam attachment, is a breeze at getting stuff loose so that all I have to do is wipe it up.

But for the price, I don''t think I would buy it for as little as it does. Times are tough, and my shrinking cleaning budget needs to be spent on items that clean as many things as possible for the price. So while the Bissell Steam Sponge is what I''d call a "cleaning toy" I wouldn''t recommend buying one. Perhaps if they upgraded it to have better attachments for cleaning around faucets, or something that would be really effective at cleaning showers or tubs.

Buy BISSELL Steam Sponge Now

This is mostly used for sanitizing areas. It doesn''t work well to remove stains on counters, or get hard to reach areas as well. The steam method is kind of awkward it says to pump it rhythmically to get continuous steam but that is kind of hard to do while also trying to move the steamer around the space. I think just using a paper towel with hot water on it will accomplish the same thing as this steamer.

I had some sharpie ink stains on my counter from a bag of apples I got at the farmers market. I thought this steam machine would work great to steam the stains out. But, nope. The directions do say that is is just pretty much for sanitizing with the steam. Which almost doesn''t even seem worth it to buy this little gadget for.

The cord is very very long. Probably for plugging this in and then steaming your bathtub. It gives you a lot of reach. I didn''t try to use this in my bathtub this time around because I am too pregnant right now. I tried easy to reach areas like my kitchen counter and bathroom counter. My bathroom counter it would really clean very at the edge of the counter. It was too bulky to get deep into the hard to reach areas.

Once I have my baby I will probably use this to sanitize areas that my baby will use like his highchair. But, I don''t think I would have went out and bought this for myself without getting this on the vine. I don''t think it accomplishes enough for my needs.

Read Best Reviews of BISSELL Steam Sponge Here

It looks like an iron with a brush. It is about as useful! :--^ Seriously, though, for what it does, it takes up room I could use for something more useful as a cleaner. Have you ever seen a housecleaning service with one of these? No. Because it is just another cleaning gadget that cleans very little. If you are a germ freak, then it may hit the sweet spot for you. It sanitizes an area, probably chases those microbes away with that steam. But you have to keep pressing the button while you clean away, so it is kind of like rubbing your stomach and patting your head simultaneously.

I used it on the place that has the toughest stains--the grout in my shower. It didn''t remove the dark stubborn guk. It did clean my counter well, and other areas that I could have just as easily cleaned with a cloth and some vinegar.

If they made this to be the next greatest thing since Mr. Clean sponges, I would rate it higher. But, this seems another in the long line of clumsy alternatives to plain old elbow grease!

Want BISSELL Steam Sponge Discount?

The Bissell Steam Sponge does exactly what it''s name says. It cleans hard to get up stains in the kitchen and bathrooms by steaming them away. It''s easy to use and the cotton bottom of the machine can be taken off and thrown in the washing machine. It seemed to be easy to use. I have no idea if the machine is long-lasting because the one I have is brand-new. It''s by Bissell, which seems to make good products.

Sorry this review is so short, but I usually review books, where it''s easy to write a long review. A cleaning product not so easy!

No problems at all since I replaced the water tank. The coffee quality is still excellent. I use the machine daily and descale about once every six weeks or so. I still love the coffee that this machine makes I get freshly-roasted beans from Peace Coffee online and grind a week''s worth at once. This coffee is so good much better than any coffee house can make. I''d definitely buy another of these machines if this one died. It is easy to use, foolproof, and makes wonderful coffee.

I found a replacement water tank fairly cheaply online. It totally fixed the leaking problem. The through-flow problem and pump noises that made me think it was dying seem to be down to the fineness of the grind. I made the grind a little coarser and stopped tamping it so hard (apparently you don''t need to tamp the coffee so much for these pressurized portafilter machines). Now it is working again just like new! So I am upping my rating to 4 stars, as the tank may need replacing every so often, but this is very easy if you know where to look ( just search on brand and model number EC 210). It was very easy and inexpensive (10.95) to replace the tank. The new tank had a tighter fit than the original perhaps it will last longer. I''m a happy bunny again, now I am getting my daily fix of espresso once more ... :-)

UPDATE 1: Seven months of wonderful coffee, but now getting floods all over the counter, with a distinct lack of flow/throughput from the espresso head. DeLonghi were no help at all in fixing the problem, even though the machine was still under warranty they asked for multiple details over the course of 6 emails, told me it was out of warranty (they take the date of manufacture) and then told me to ship it 100 miles to get the problem sorted once I emailed a scan of my original invoice (they only have a few espresso machine repair centers in the USA). It was cheaper to obtain a new tank from a third-party supplier than to ship the machine. So don''t expect to get this (apparently really common) issue fixed under warranty.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

The machine is easy to use: you need to run two lots of heated water through the espresso filter part to heat it up (takes 3-4 minutes, including wait time for the light on top to tell you that it has reheated between runs). Then you can pop in the pod or a tamped espresso filter and make your coffee. I use Peace Coffee Guatemalan espresso beans, ground fine with a Braun burr grinder. If I can''t be bothered to grind the next few days'' supply, I use Lavazza Espresso Pods Gran Crema, 150-Count, .25-Ounce Pods. Both make excellent coffee, although the Peace coffee is to die for!

The milk steamer/frother works perfectly for me. For the reviewer who said they could only get froth out of this, you need to hold the milk jug closer underneath the wand and at an angle so that the steamer is near the bottom of the jug. If you just put the tip of the steamer wand in the milk, you get froth. If you immerse the wand so that the steamer is close to the bottom of the jug, it steams the milk with very little froth. Move the jug down on the frothing wand as the milk is heated, to add as much froth as you want by steaming the top 1/2 inch at the end of the heating process. I''d really recommend the Krups XS5020 20-Ounce Stainless-Steel Milk Frothing Pitcher as this is *just* the right size to steam milk for 1-2 large (16oz) lattes and has a great handle that keeps fingers away from the heated stainless steel. I would also recommend the Rattleware 5-Ounce Brew Pitcher, which is just the right size to fit under the espresso spouts. I make a long shot of espresso which fills the pitcher from a double-shot amount of espresso (or two single-shot pods). This is the advantage of using a machine that does not have an automatic cutoff for the water-flow: you can make your coffee how you like it (the standard double-shot is only 2oz I make nearer 4oz, which still has a real kick that you don''t find in filtered coffee, yet is not at all bitter).

The RSVP Terry''s Tamper is just the right size for this espresso filter and tamps the coffee much better than the (rather fragile) plastic tamper that comes with the machine. I have just about perfected the "press-and-turn" tamping technique to get the coffee tightly-compressed in the filter, using this tamper.

The only slight drawback with this machine is that you have to wait for the milk steamer to warm up, after you''ve made your espresso, as it only has a single heater. Most of the machines in this price range are like this it is not a big deal. You press the steamer button and wait for it to light up (takes about 1-2 minutes, max). If you leave the coffee in a little brew jug under the spout, it is kept warm by the metal plate underneath, which was already heated by the initial warmup process. I have made espresso for 4 people with this machine in the same run and each came out beautifully. The water reservoir holds 35oz, which is enough for more coffee and steam than I am likely to need ...

I have not had any problem with turning the filter holder unless I really overfilled the espresso filter basket it can be quite tight if you get too ambitious with the amount of coffee you can pack in there! I agree with the reviewer who observed that the machine is not as heavy as it looks and you have to hold onto the top of the machine, as you insert the filter holder. But at least this makes it easy to carry.

Overall the machine is really easy to use and to clean. The espresso filter holder is nicely designed with a flip-up arm that allows you to knock the grounds out easily. I have made way more coffee with this machine than I expected, because it is so good and so easy. I thought that this would be a weekend indulgence and was afraid that I might not use it enough to justify the cost. In fact, I make espresso every morning and I don''t know how I lived without it for so long!

We had high hopes for this machine, and it was well reviewed and very reasonably priced. The first time we filled the water reservoir a few minutes later we were stepping in water (oh, it leaks.) We cleaned up, filled it up again, and this time carefully ensured it was seated properly. Then we waited. Yep, it leaked again.

After a couple of additional attempts (push it firmly in, gently rest it in place) I decided to turn on the machine...maybe running a cycle or two would fix things. As it warmed up, water started leaking out of the steam nozzle! (first time it was ever used) followed by leaking from the water reservoir.

The manual says nothing about troubleshooting leaks. I think we got a dud, and I''m very disappointed.

This machine is nicely heavy and strong, normally with every pump espresso machine you have to wait like 5 minutes or more to let it warm up, well this one is ready in seconds, the pump is not noisy at all, the steamer works very nice mixing perfectly the milk with the steam without making boiling the milk before you get a firm foam and that is a good advantage because you can froth directly into your cup instead of using frothing pitcher (less clean to do), the water reservoir can be remove to fill it or it has a lid too, and it comes with two kinds of filters one to use with ground coffee for 2 cups, and another one that can be use with ground coffee for 1 cup or with E.S.E pods( which although they are bit expensive, once you use them you love them cause they are super practical) and at last but not least the fact that this has stainless-steel boiler is a plus since all the small espressos use aluminum which is not that healthy. In general it is very easy to use and to clean machine.

I am somewhat of an aged coffee drinker, I admit. I have had years where I would go to work and consume maybe 15 6 oz. cups of coffee. Even now, I don''t have a problem drinking a triple or quad shot latte. I just have a hard time watching the money flow out of my wallet when I frequent the espresso stands. But I do like a tasty cup of java. I know what I like and I''ll likely pay for it if I have to buy coffee at an espresso stand, but I won''t be buying any $200+ machines for home use any time soon. Nor any expensive burr grinders or $30 tampers. And no ESE pods. I want the coffee experience. Coffee pods are made for those who want automatic machines and that is NOT what I want out of a coffee making machine experience. That being said, I did some research to upgrade my current 20+ year old Krups espresso/latte maker (hardly any crema and way too much airy foam in the milk). I found the DeLonghi EC-270 on sale and specifically researched it for comments. Yes I have read all the reviews here on Amazon and I''m honestly scratching my head in wonder. Are we all talking about the same machine? I am absolutely IN LOVE with this unit and have been since I opened the box. It has a small footprint compared to many of the higher priced ones, It is manually operated, which I want....I like the experience of being my own barista, I do not want an automatic machine where you push a button for a latte and out comes your complete drink. I don''t want a grinder added to my machine, I''ll do that on my own. I just want an honest machine that will consistently pour(or pull or steam) a great cup of espresso or cappucino or latte. This one does it with 3 buttons and one twist knob. One button turns the machine on to warm up the water, one button selects the coffee route for the heated water and the third button selects the steamer route for the heated water. Push the button for coffee and within 25 to 40 seconds you can have up to 2 shots of great looking espresso with a generous dose of crema on top. Push the steamer button and the steam wand is ready for action in moments (not minutes). Once that button lights up you turn the knob on the side of the machine and put a small pitcher of milk under the steamer and steam it for up to 60 seconds. Add steamed milk to pulled shots of espresso and enjoy. And all this was possible after only one or two times through the process to get it understood and somewhat mastered (although I like to think I am still mastering the art of a great latte).

I haven''t had any problems with leaking water tanks, no problems with the filter holder, no problems with long waits for the water to heat up, and no problem putting the pitcher underneath the frother/steamer. I DID read the manual before I started making the coffee and I did keep in mind all the problems some others seem to have had with this unit. I have had none of them. Now, for some history: with my old twenty plus year old unit, I would make about 4 lattes a week. With this new unit, I like the lattes I am making so much more that I am making roughly 15 to 20 a week! I don''t mind a little clean up afterwards...I knew that came with the territory since I had an older machine, but it seems my cleanup time is a bit less than before. But for sure I can claim that my cups of coffee now are WAY better than before without changing the grinder or the coffee beans or the type of milk (I use non-fat milk almost exclusively). And I AM using a blade coffee grinder, not a burr grinder. I just make sure that I am grinding until all the ground coffee is as close to espresso grind as possible. I just can''t afford to buy a good burr grinder (and I have looked into them, I understand their benefits). I am satisfied with the results I obtain with my 15+ year old coffee bean grinder. The crema the DeLonghi can produce is easily 3 times what I got out of my old Krups unit, and the shots are being pulled out within 25 to 30 seconds. Yes, I spend a bit of time tamping down the grinds so that the filter holder will yield great results within the expected time frame. And yes, I am using the plastic tamper the comes with the machine.

What I do not do is remove the water tank every time I want to fill it up. I simply use the pitcher that will hold milk and fill it with water first and pour it into the water tank. I am thinking that the fewer times I remove the tank, the less damage I am doing to the seal at the tank base. Eventually I realize that I will have to do periodic cleaning of the tank and other parts of the machine but I can handle that. I am relating all this to put into perspective all the comments others have made. Bottom line, I love this machine and I can barely let it sit still for 24 hours without feeling compelled to make myself another coffee drink for me or my wife. We both absolutely LOVE the results....a great cup of coffee. I have had ZERO problems with this machine and only many positive remarks from family and friends when they drink the results from the EC-270. I hope this review dispels some of the misconceptions associated with some of these other DeLonghi EC-270 reviews.

As a final comment, I acquired mine on sale and with a rebate that definitely put the total under $100. That''s less than half of what my old Krups cost brand new. You should seriously consider this machine if you like involving yourself with the ''barista'' experience and love the results of what you can produce. I end up talking about this machine to others almost every day. I LOVE IT!!

When I got this espresso machine (birthday present) I was very excited because I have the EC155 at work and I''m very pleased with that model (5 out of 5 stars). I was very dismayed when I read the reviews about this (the EC270) machine and learned about the leaky water tank problem. Here are my findings so far:

PROS:

1. This machine DOES make a really good cup of espresso.

2. It''s a very pretty machine.

3. It''s not overly expensive.

CONS:

1. It has no holder for the "other" filter that isn''t being used the EC155 has a holder under the lid for storing the other filter which is quite convenient.

2. It''s VERY noisy, much noisier than the EC155.

3. The filter starts dripping as soon as I turn on the machine, and continues to drip LONG after I make an espresso. Some dripping is understandable since the grounds hold some liquid, but this machine drips out as much as 3 ounces of liquid AFTER turning off the pump; that seems really excessive to me (the EC155 drips very little after making a cup and never before).

4. After having it for less than two weeks, and using it 2-5 times per day, mysterious puddles have begun to appear beneath the machine which I have traced back to, you guessed it, a leaking water tank.

5. The drip tray is pretty awkward to remove and the "level indicator" is useless: If you let the drip tray get full enough for the indicator to be seen then you''re going to spill when you remove the tray.

6. Poor value: It does make great espresso, but so does the EC155 and it is cheaper, it doesn''t leak, it''s quieter, etc.

It''s almost as if the EC270 and the EC155 were made by two different companies. Apparently the EC155 is made in Italy (Amazon.com description) while the EC270 is made in China (bottom of machine). That could have something to do with it.

The warranty states that they will either repair it or replace a defective machine but the purchaser has to pay shipping to ship it back. For a $130.00 machine, is it worth it to go through all that trouble?

I expect that eventually I''ll get fed up, throw it in the garbage, and buy the EC155 for $80.
