750 EZ Freeze Pure with freezer and water filter

753 EZ Freeze Pure with freezer and water filter, 64-OunceAfter freezing the insert for the first time, it cracked! Now it''s just an expensive water bottle!

I was looking for a 64 oz water bottle that I could drink out of at work. That way, if I drank 2 per day, it would be an entire gallon.

Pros:

it is 64 oz

Cons:

the "straw" is made up of a two piece filter + chiller mechanism. Although a good idea in theory, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to suck up water through this straw!

without the "straw", you have to either drink with the lid off (which my wife now does) or tilt the thing completely upside down and let gravity work its magic

Two stars for this item on a generous day.

For the ones complaining about the struggle to drink through the filter try the brita bottle then get back to me. I love this bottle. The 24oz holds about 17oz after filter displacement. I don''t like the ez freeze thing because I drink to much water it doesn''t stay cold so I never stick it in the freezer. I am a little challenged in the coordination department. So its easier for me not to have to tilt up while on gym equipment to drink. This bottle I dont have to. Yay!

Pros:

-yummy filtered water every where you go

-has a counter to keep track of bottles consumed

-light weight

-durable

-durable handle

-easier to drink through than competitors

cons:

-filter/ice thing displacement

-can be a little hard to suck through

I really enjoyed receiving this item due to the fact that I had just gotten one a few months before and it was stolen. However, I''ve only had this item a few weeks and the EZ-Freeze stick has exploded! Had I not noticed, I could''ve become very ill. How do I get another one without having to purchase another bottle? Please help me out because I love this bottle but it is now useless and I don''t feel I should have to buy another. The filters are online for replacement but the EZ-Freeze sticks seem to be unavailable which leads me to believe that I''ve wasted my money. I don''t want to have to discard it and order another so I''d really appreciate someone contacting me--emailing doesn''t seem to work. Thanks.

Slant/Fin 6-Pack Mineral Absorption Pads Save 32% Off

Slant/Fin 6-Pack Mineral Absorption PadsDecent price but the cost of shipping makes it almost prohibitive. It is so light and compact, it could have been put in a small envelope and sent for less than $1. Unfortunately there is no other source I could find.

I do not recommend this product as these generic 3 1/4" pads require me to cut the pads down to size to fit Slant/Fin (Enviracare) humidifiers. Slant/Fin humidifiers take mineral absorption pads that are 2 1/4" in diameter rather than this larger size.

In addition, the packaging of the product is wasteful as these generic over-sized pads are packaged two per plastic bag unlike the name-brand Slant/Fin product where all six pads are bagged together.

I will be returning this product to the seller.

10" Beer Filtration Kit

10'' Beer Filtration KitI use this filter with a carbon filter for water flltration so I can brew with my tap water and bought cheap 5 and 1 micron filters for filtering the beer. It is beeing hooked up between two kegs (out and out pole) and one keg is left open, the other closed and some pressure (0.5 psi does it) applied. Beer then flows through the filter and comes out clear on the other side. I use the 1 micron filter for Pilsener and other beer that needs to be crystal clear, the 5 micron filter for the rest. When I got two kegs for filtering, I use the same filter, but discharge it after one use. The filters are pretty cheap (about $2) at

Ultimately, you may be able to get almost the same clarity out of your beer in other ways, but for me, as I move my fermenting bottles around before kegging and always get movement in the sediment, this is the best solution.

Happy brewing!

The unit works great with a little common sense. Both pin lock and ball lock fittings are 1/4 inch (as is the draw tube in the keg) so having a larger hose would be useless. Since the fittings seal when disconnected it is possible to purge all the air out of the filter unit with Co2 before filtering. I hook up the entire system an purge both kegs and the filter before putting beer in the system. I do not believe this setup would work with gravity alone. I filtered an amber ale with a 5 micron filter and it came out very clear. With the 5 micron filter I was able to filter 5 gallons in about 45 minutes with 5 psi (the batch had a lot of thrub hence the high pressure).

I would recommend this for the home brewer with a little experience.

The only bummer about this unit is that I use pin lock fittings and this uses ball lock (easy to change just had to purchase some fittings separately).

P.S. leaving feedback without actually using the item is pretty rude.

I normally use a plate filter (with the coarse filter pads) to filter my home brew. I bought this since it looks much easier to set up and use than the plate filter (which it is). I was a little disappointed with the results though. It really didn''t do a good job at all. Reading another review, I wonder if I pushed the beer through the 5 micron filter at too high a pressure (about 10 15 psi). So the jury is still out until I use it again this time with a finer filter.

Also, for an experienced home brewer, the hook up is intuitive, but for a inexperienced home brewer who is filtering for the first time, perhaps including some instructions would be helpful. For example, I know to leave the lid loose or off of the receiving keg, but a first time user may not. And guidance on the appropriate pressure would be helpful too!

Works great! this is a must have product for home brewing. Cuts weeks off the conditioning time and eliminates transferring between different carboys.

I purchased this to filter a batch of cloudy stout that I had made. Apparently the particles in the stout were too small to filter. But on a second use with a light beer it filtered out a large amount of sediment at 5 micron. I didn''t bother to continue to 1 micron that time because it''s a wheat beer which is supposed to be cloudy and I didn''t want to waster a filter cartridge. over all I like this filter for occasional use, but I don''t use it each time. Do your clarification with gelatin etc and save the filter to fix those batches that just need it.

HI, I bought a 3M FluoriCheck(tm) Water Analysis Service at to see what my Fluoride PPM is.. I got the disappointing results back of 1.1 ppm.. so I went onto my city''s water analysis page and their results show 1.25 ppm.. This PF-2''s with the Black Berky''s hardly work!

I''m switching back to Reverse Osmosis and adding a mineralization filter to put the good minerals back in and also make the water PH neutral. Don''t waste your money on the Berky if you want to get the fluoride out!

I put this review on 5/1 and it was removed, so I''m putting it back on here so other''s don''t get suckered into the Berky scam.. They are obviously moderating reviews.

I came back on here to let you all know that I installed my RO setup and had the water tested again with the same kit.. 0.08 ppm of flouride. much better results than Berky.

Buy Berkey PF-2 Fluoride / Arsenic Filter (Set of 2) Now

We''ve had our Berkey for over a year. The fluoride filters are the main reason we purchased a Berkey. They are only good for six months. I tested my water twice to verify this. Our water comes from a well and is naturally fluoridated at about .9 ppm (parts per million). I tested a filter by purchasing a kit through 3M (about $20) after seven months of use and the water tested at 0.79 ppm. I replaced the filter and tested after about a month and the water came back to 0.06 ppm. Hardly any fluoride! I am curious to test my water again at the five month mark but not sure I want to spend an additional $20. I think I will just stick to the manufacturer''s recommendation of changing out ever six months. Overall, this is the way to go if you want to remove fluoride from your drinking water.

After seeing multiple reviews state that their water tested so high for fluoride I would be curious to ask when they tested their water. They might have misunderstood the directions and be using their filters after six months. The black filters can be used indefinitely, but the fluoride filters lose effectiveness after six months of use. Another possibility is the ph of their tap water. I think the ph of your water can affect the effectiveness. I am not a scientist but have read that the filters work better with slightly acidic water (pH range of 5.5 6.5 and generally don''t work well if the water is neutral (pH = 7) or more alkaline (higher pH). So if you want to be sure that your filter will work to filter out fluoride you could test the ph of your tap water first.

If you''re not filtering the fluoride out of your water, you''ll never know how GOOD it can taste!!! I won''t drink any water that hasn''t been through my Berkey. It makes the clearest ice cubes too! In this day and age when you don''t really know what''s coming out of your tap, why would you take a chance? I used to drink Evian bottled water exclusively because most bottled water tasted just like it came from the tap (found out later, that it did!), and was able to transition to Berkey water easily. Saves me TONS of money too! You can''t go wrong with a Berkey.

Want Berkey PF-2 Fluoride / Arsenic Filter (Set of 2) Discount?

I am very disappointed to say that this product did not filter flouride at all. After reading some skeptical reviews, I invested in a flouride test myself. The water from our municipal tap was tested, and compared to water that was run through my Berkey system with flouride filters. The same amount of flouride was present in the Berkey filtered water, as the tap water. The manufacturer states that the flouride filters are good for approximately 1000 gallons. The filters tested had gone through about 300 gallons. So, I couldn''t say if they work in a brand new state or not, but definitely weren''t working after 300 gallons, which is only 1/3 the capacity stated by Berkey. Will be asking for my money back on this product. Very unfortunate, and disappointing. The Berkey system did seem to filter chlorine (tested that too), but the flouride filters did not do their job. I will be ordering further tests to see if the black filters indeed do what they say they do too.

I purchased a fluoride test to make sure these filters worked and it came out to 1.12 ppm fluoride. My water supply said that they fluoridate between .7 and 1.0 ppm. It did not remove any!!

6-pack of Aquasana 18 Oz. Glass Bottles Save 25% Off

6-pack of Aquasana 18 Oz. Glass BottlesFor me these bottles are perfect. If you stand up a paperback book next to one, you''ll find that the book just reaches the bottom of the bottleneck where the threads start. The circumference is the same as a 24oz soda bottle. That gives you a good idea of the size. The caps only need to be hand tightened to accomplish a waterproof seal. I recently moved and found that 2 of my caps had vanished during the move. I contacted aquasana and they sent me 2 new caps for 1.50 each.

I make my own homemade tea. I make a pitcher and then use it to fill three of these bottles. I then make a different kind of tea and fill the other three bottles. Then when I want tea, I just have to grab a bottle from the fridge. Just as convenient as store bought tea, but not nearly as expensive.

To clean I put them in the bottom rack of the dishwasher, one tine per bottle. I put the caps in the silverware basket and close the lid (of the silverware basket). If you don''t have a lid on your silverware basket you might want to just had wash the caps.

I purchased two sets of these bottles to replace inexpensive water bottles that I was reusing and refilling at home. After a while, it simply became too cumbersome trying to clean the plastic bottles and small plastic caps in order to keep them sanitary so I began my search for inexpensive glass replacements. I have to say that I couldn''t be happier with my purchase of the Aquasana 18 oz glass bottles! I have owned them for about a month and they have really held up to steady use! Some users have complained about the blue plastic caps but I find them to be very sturdy, just the right size and very easy to screw on and off. They also include a rubber o-ring inside which makes for a water tight seal! Best of all, the bottles and plastic caps are sturdy enough to place in the dishwasher! My favorite use for these bottles is filling them up with water and using single serve packets of drink mix. I simply pour the packet of drink mix in the water, place the plastic cap on and shake! I do this to all 12 of my Aqusana 18 oz bottles and put them in the refrigerator to get nice and cold. This way, I always have a healthy, low calorie assortment of drinks ready to go! I do want to point out that the opening of the bottles that you drink out of is larger than a standard water bottle. During normal use, you will not be able to drink with your entire mouth around the opening of the bottle. If you did, you would probably choke on the drink! I personally don''t find this to be a problem at all but I know that some other reviewers have preferred a smaller bottle opening.

Buy 6-pack of Aquasana 18 Oz. Glass Bottles Now

I picked up a six pack of these bottles from aguasana. They hold 18 oz which is just right for me. The glass is thick and keeps cold when taken from the refrigerator. The caps are plastic with a gasket so you can lay them down if needed. Since the caps are plastic just remember not to over tighten them. The opening of the bottle is 1 & 1/4 inch in diameter. They don''t want to tip over like the larger/taller bottles.

There is only one thing that drives me crazy about these bottles. Every bottle and the box they come in has a sticker "Made in China." Is it that difficult or that expensive to make a simple glass bottle with a cap here in this country??? Does the company save that much by having them shipped all the way from China and then trucked to their final destination??? I''m over 60 years old and I can remember when WE made everything but now we don''t manufacture anything in this country!!!

My husband and I bought a water filter from Aquasana a while back, and with it we got three of these lovely glass water bottles (and two totes). I couldn''t be happier with the bottles. They are a convenient size, and when combined with shoulder totes (available at their store and possibly here, too) very handy for on the go. I''ve not had any trouble with the lids, and I LOVE the wide-mouth design, which is like drinking from a thin glass. It''s very comfortable, and very, very handy. I''ve dropped two of them off of tables and night-stands and the worst that''s happened so-far is a scratch. I''m accident prone so I''m very happy with this result.

Update: it''s now almost a year later and still no breakages. I love these things.

I bought these bottles as a substitute for the commercially filled plastic hoping to make an easy transition. The bottles serve their purpose, and, of course, the water tastes the same. Tap is tap, after all. I just know we can do better. The bottles are a bit heavy, cumbersome, and slip out of your hand easily when taken from the fridge. As mentioned on an earlier review, the opening is large and takes some getting used to. Also, not to be nit picky, they don''t hold 18oz. They hold 16.9oz, the same as traditional plastic bottles, although they seem much larger.

Seychelle Family Water Pitcher- STD Filter System

Seychelle Family Water Pitcher- STD Filter SystemI was impressed with the features of this pitcher. We shopped around and Amazon beat the price. It is a good size, larger than brita. I love the quality of water. I would deffinately recommend.

I know this would be a great help in an emergency situation where fresh drinking water could be a problem. However, I bought this because of the claim that it filters not only the chlorines and bacterias out of our everyday water but also filters the chemicals and other things in our water that is harmful. I have had other water filters. I thought they worked good. I loved this filter system. It supplies drinking water quickly and the water tastes great. I drink a lot of water and I have never liked the taste of bottled water. Great Product.

Flexible Crevice Tool for all Vacuum Hoses

Flexible Crevice Tool for all Vacuum Hoses
  • 24" Long
  • Flexible, bends up to 180 degrees
  • Allows cleaning in hard to reach areas
  • Great for dryer vents, heating ducts, along side the refrigerator
  • Fits all vacuums accepting 1 1/4" inner diameter attachments

This thing is two piecesone end is the hard plastic end which attaches to the second end which is the flexible hose. The hard end has an inlet and that inlet is so small that it impedes substantial airflow to your vacuum. Moreover, even small objects cannot pass through this opening and it will clog up the inlet in no time.

This will cause your motors to overwork and fail prematurely. When you vacuum, it''s like you''re trying to vacuum with a sock stuffed in the hoses. I''m using that example so show how much less air will move through it. Moreover, you''ll hear your motor scream. The inlet needs to be designed so that its opening is larger to prevent overly restrictive airflow.

You are warned.

Buy Flexible Crevice Tool for all Vacuum Hoses Now

While its not the most ergonomic device, the tool does allow you to get into areas a normal crevice tool will not. Great while it lasted. It is a 2 piece construction, consisting of a hard plastic vacuum hose connector and a flexible extension. Unfortunately, the hard plastic piece gets stressed when you bend the flexible portion. The end of the hard plastic connector that connects to the flexible extension broke off after less than 2 months of normal use.

The Item description says "Flexible Crevice tool for ALL vacuum hoses" not true it was too small to fit my vacuum. Come to find out it is a "1.25" I assume that is 1.25" diameter measurement. This item probably works fine but I will never know because it is not for "ALL" vacuums. Check your hose diameter before buying.

Want Flexible Crevice Tool for all Vacuum Hoses Discount?

The only caution is to measure your current hose to see if this tool will fit as it is very small. It did not fit my Miele vacuum, but fit my Shop-Vac. It does work well. Because the crevice tool is a firm but flexible plastic, it does not collapse with suction as I read happens with other similar devices. I was able to maneuver it into the lint trap and suction out the lint. Sometimes I had to bend the crevice tool into sort of a J-shape near the end so it would reach awkward areas, and it would hold that shape long enough so I could clean an area. Since I don''t anticipate using this more than every few months, the bother of bringing the Shop-Vac into the house and fussing with the dryer lint cleaning is acceptable. Every dryer has a different lint trap configuration, so there is probably no "one size fits all" when it comes to a dryer cleaning extension. This is not quite everything I would like it to be, but it is good enough to give it 4 stars. Just be sure to measure well before you order.

Does not fit Miele canister vacuum. However I was able to use it for what I needed.

Toastess TFC-25T Silhouette 800-Watt Personal-Size Coffeemaker Save 8% Off

Toastess TFC-25T Silhouette 800-Watt Personal-Size Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Travel MugBought a 8oz single cup coffee maker the other day, but was displeased with it, was not enough to fill my coffee mug. It was just enough to fill a tea sized cup. I then bought this unit, that provides 15oz of coffee.
Fills my coffee mug with a little left over.

Note: you can add just a tad more water, to provide two cups of 8oz coffee. Very well constructed unit, and also looks great on the counter. Also take note, it does shut off automatically once coffee finishes brewing, which is approximately a quick 2 1/2 minutes.

Works well, and makes a great cup of coffee.

I''m a college student, so I was interested in something cheap and compact, but still functional.

This coffee maker is a BREEZE to clean, just rinse out the permanent filter-no other mess involved) even for someone as lazy as me, and works impressively fast. I am still in awe of the fact that seconds after I turn it on, it is pouring HOT HOT coffee into my cup. It is also a simple enough design that I can trust my roommates to use it without worrying they''ll break it...(and also cheap enough that it wouldn''t matter terribly if they did)

The only other mug I have used with it is as tall as the one included and I would caution against using a cup/mug that isn''t tall, as I suspect there would be some splatter.

Another feature I love is that it is incredibly easy to use it as a water-heater; even if you need more than 15 oz., it works fast enough that you can just use it multiple times.

All in all, I am completely satisfied and have no complaints whatsoever. (I have had it for about a month, during which I''ve used it about 4 times a week)

I am a serious coffee drinker and when my last single serve coffee maker finally died, I ordered this one. After reading all the reviews I thought this sounds like a great coffee maker. My new coffee maker arrived and I made a cup of coffee for the next day to take on my comute to work only to discover that my coffee tasted blah hot water (just like one of the reviews stated). When I did read that review I thought, well they didn''t add enough coffee, so the next day I made another cup of coffee, I made sure to put more coffee grounds in the filter. Well, to my dismay, blah hot water again, but with just a hint of flavor. For the amount of coffee you have to put in the filter to just get a good cup of coffee is not worth the cost of this coffee maker. I returned this and ordered my old brand the Black and Decker Brew-N-Go. Now this is a coffee maker, I should have just ordered it from the get go.

Read Best Reviews of Toastess TFC-25T Silhouette 800-Watt Personal-Size Coffeemaker Here

I recently bought this coffee maker and am impressed with what I got for the money. It''s utterly simple to use and it''s basic, a nice difference from the expensive and complex machines out there. I''m impressed. If you want to fill up your travel mug, it''s perfect because that''s what it seems meant for. It comes with a travel mug. Anyway, I''ve only had it for a couple of weeks, and can offer just two possible things worth considering: First, for some reason you have to unplug the cord from your outlet once the coffee is done. That has taken some getting used to. Second, once the coffee seems done, I have to put a coffee cup in place of the travel mug to catch drips. There is a removable drip tray, and I''m still getting used to figuring out when it''s done and when I can pull the travel mug out from under the drip-thing. So the price is right, it comes with a permanent filter so buying paper filters isn''t necessary, and it''s simple, looks nice and is easy to use. So far I really like how it has simplified my life. The best part is that I was able to throw out my Cuisinart piece of expensive coffee-maker junk.

Want Toastess TFC-25T Silhouette 800-Watt Personal-Size Coffeemaker Discount?

I use this coffeemaker everyday and it is a sturdy and compact design just like I was looking for. It also brews coffee quickly, about 3 minutes for 15oz. The nylon filter is great, no more emptying paper filters, and does not allow grinds through.

Things I don''t like:

>The mug does not keep the coffee warm for very long 4/5 minutes tops

>Coffee drips behind the mug while brewing and spills pushing the mug all the way to the back of the maker HELPS with this.

This gets an OK overall review, the biggest frustration for me is the coffee spilling during brewing.

Hamilton 1.7 Liter Stainless Steel Kettle Save 38% Off

Hamilton 1.7 Liter Stainless Steel KettleMy only concern after purchasing this kettle was that the level gauge has a plastic surface in contact with the boiling water on the inside of the kettle.

After sending an inquiry to the manufacturer about the type of plastic used in the construction, I received the following response:

"Thank you for contacting us. The plastic used is polypropylene which is BPA free. If you are in need of additional assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your patronage.

Consumer Affairs"

I absolutely love this kettle. I got my first one about six years ago and it''s still going strong. In fact, I just bought my second one so I could have hot water in my office at school for tea and ramen.

*The water gets hot fast. You know, in case you''re starving but only have about five minutes before undergrads start trickling into your office to ask for extra points on their midterms for spelling their names correctly.

*It automatically shuts off when it''s done boiling. A nice feature to have when you dart out of the office to intercept the cookie tray before the colloquium attendees get to it.

*There''s a window-thingy on the side to let you know how much water is inside. Great for figuring out how many packets of ramen you can make.

*The carafe can be completely removed from the electric base; no cord attached. I wish I could make a grad student joke about this feature, but nothing comes to mind except noose jokes (''cause, you know, when you''re a grad student, you want to hang yourself).

*It''s stainless steel instead of plastic...there''s nothing yuckier than plastic-tasting water. No plastic, no BPA-related worries. Not that I have anything to live for...I''m a grad student, after all.

Yeah, the outside of the carafe can get hot, but why in the world would you touch it? There''s a very strong and very big handle that doesn''t get hot that you use. I have the common sense of a gnat--hence, pursuing the PhD instead of a getting a real job--and I''ve never once burned myself, AND I''VE BEEN USING THIS DAILY FOR YEARS!

Yeah, I''m a grad student. How''d you know???

This kettle works perfectly for what it is supposed to be used for, boiling water at home. To those who gave it bad reviews because it was hot... really? That''s what it is supposed to do... If you read the instructions before use, it says that the stainless steel surface gets hot and to only grab it by the handle as well as to have close supervision when any appliance is used by or near children. Would you grab a tea pot off the stove by anything other than the handle or allow your young children to operate it from the stove? No... It heats up quick and it was a great buy for only $20 at Costco. Super easy to use and has a removable mesh filter to prevent scale that is caused by lime and calcium in hard water.

I purchased this at Costco for $19.99, it is a great little kettle. I used it to replace a Braun kettle that was all plastic and had a water filter that was easily broken and cost more than this kettle to replace. I eventually found a cheaper filter online but when shipping and handling costs were added it was over $10.00. The two kettles hold the same amount of water and boil the water at the same time, but this is less than half the price of the Braun. I have not used it for long so cannot speak to it''s longevity, however it does the job and so far so good. As for the issues about cool touch v/s this kettle, the handle is large, the lid opens easily with a cool push button, why on earth do you need to touch it anywhere else? If you have elderly people in your home as some reviewers mention, if they are too infirm or confused to hold this kettle then they should not be around electrical products or kitchens unsupervised so it is a moot point. I guess with children it is a personal thing, do you leave them unattended in the kitchen next to a container of boiling water?

Want Hamilton 1.7 Liter Stainless Steel Kettle Discount?

Despite some previous reviewers who find that this kettle heats water to boiling no more quickly than their stovetop kettles, it''s a huge improvement for me. My old gas stove takes at least twice as much time. I use this kettle at least once a day to heat water for my Chemex coffeemaker or to make a couple quarts of iced tea to keep in the refrigerator. It takes about five minutes to heat a full pot (1.7 liters or about 2 quarts) to approximately 200 degrees, perfect for coffee or green tea.

Since I''m not always heating water to boiling, I considered buying a much fancier and pricier kettle that has temperature settings, but I''m glad I saved my money. After some experimenting with a thermometer, I''ve found that I can easily tell when the water is about 200-205 degrees. As soon as I can clearly see steam pouring out of the spout, and I can hold my hand comfortably above the spout for no more than about four seconds (due to the heat), that''s just perfect. The pot swivels a full 360 degrees on its base, unlike some others I looked at, and that makes it really easy to monitor as it heats.

I also like that it has a thick plastic handle and a pushbutton to open the lid, so it can be easily filled and poured without having to remove a lid. The pointy-shaped spout doesn''t drip. The kettle also has a protective plastic base, so I can take it off the heating element and set it down right on my kitchen table without a potholder underneath.

The power cord is 24" long. You can shorten it if needed by wrapping it inside the base of the heating element, and feeding the desired length out through a notch. I have my kettle on the counter right next to the outlet, and I have the cord shortened to under 6". This reduces the likelihood of something catching on the cord and tipping over the kettle, and it also prevents the cord from accidentally touching the hot outside of the kettle and causing fire or damage (I had this happen once with a crock pot.)

The only minor issue I''ve had is that the screen filter that fits inside the spout pops loose occasionally and I find it floating in the water. It''s easy enough to snap back into place once the kettle is cool. I''d just remove it permanently but the instructions warn that the auto-shutoff feature may not work correctly if the filter is not in place.

In conclusion, you can pay a lot more for a kettle but this simple one looks nice in my kitchen and works great for me. I have no hesitation recommending it.

CRYSTAL QUEST® Undersink Replaceable Triple Multi ULTIMATE Water Filter System
  • Eagle Redox Alloy® is a major advancement in water treatment technology that works on the electro-chemical and spontaneous-oxidation-reduction (REDOX) principles. Chlorine is instantaneously and almost inexhaustibly oxidized
  • Installs neatly under the sink. Comes with an attractive faucet and all necessary installation hardware.
  • Conveniently provides 30,000 gallons of water. (3-5 years, or when the flow of water will automatically either stop or slow down greatly.)
  • Please note: When considering installation, if current under sink plumbing is hard copper tubing the saddle valve would be used; for flex tubing the T-valve would be required. Saddle valve is sent with order unless T-valve is specified.
  • Dimensions: 15"L x 14"H(10"+ 4" tochange cartridge) x 5"W

I installed this to my PEX plumbing. The sadle valve you get with it is not good for PEX, so if you have PEX plumbing, you''ll need to buy what you need. Unfortunately, the water tasted worse from the filter than from my tap. I contacted the seller. They suggested I contact Crystal Quest. Crystal Quest said that my area (Southern PA) has "hard" water and this is what causes the issue. They suggested two things to try: (1) slow down the flow through the unit by partially closing the valve to the input side or (2) replacing the sediment filter with a Cation filter and re-ordering the filters. I tried the first and so far it''s working though the flow is somewhat reduced. I was a bit hesitant to spend even more money on this by adding the Cation filter cartridge. I suggest that if you plan to install one of these, go to Home Depot or someplace and get a water testing kit and have your water tested. Then contact someone like Crystal Quest and ask them what you need. If your water is "hard" (6.7 to 8.2 grains per gallon), this unit is not the way to go as is.

I accidentally ordered this product instead of the crystal quest ceramic triple water filter, which is identical except it has a ceramic filter instead of carbon. This vendor was very understanding, and immediately corrected the problem by allowing an exchange of one of the filters to a ceramic filter at no cost. They sent me the new filter first and I put the other filter in the box and mailed it back with no additional freight cost. First of all, the quality of this filter, with the ceramic version, is five-star. Add to it great customer service and you have an unbeatable combination.

This is a good product if you want to simplify the filtering of your water. However, the trick for the water to taste great is to minimize the outflow of water as much as you can.

Rubbermaid 20-Ounce Filtration Personal Bottle Save 15% Off

Rubbermaid 20-Ounce Filtration Personal Bottle, BlackAfter using the Bobble and Brita, I can easily say that this is the best filtration bottle that I''ve used thus far. Technically they all work, but this one works the best out of the three.

In my experiences, the Bobble was hard to squeeze and after a while the plastic seemed to bend to the point where it felt like it was going to crack. It never did, but it felt like that. The cap for the Bobble got lost almost instantly. The Brita filter bottle was made out of more flexible material and also held more water than the Bobble, but would leak through the cap, with or without the loop ring. After about 3 months of use (The normal life of 1 filter) the plastic on the filter that holds it to the spout was cracked, pretty much nullifying all filter capability. I''m not sure exactly when this happened. Also, the little plastic cap for this bottle was lost quickly too.

Which brings us to the Rubbermaid filter. All the problems that I''ve had with the other filter bottles have pretty much been fixed. by this.

Pros:

-The plastic is nicely flexible and always returns to it''s original shape (note that the shape is designed to be squeezed in one direction). It also has a rubber grip near the top for holding it.

-The cap is held on by a tether. One of the other reviewers mentioned that the tether can get in the way, but this is not the case. It has little plastic bumps on the tether such that if you open or close the tether all the way it''ll stick in that position until you pull it out.

-High volume output. when you squeeze it, you get a lot of water pushed through the filter. Considerably more than the other two bottles. The filter also has a 1-way gasket so that after squeezing, it is easy for air to rush into the bottle for the next squeeze.

-Filter Change Indicator. The filter itself has a ring that you rotate around when you first get it to remind you when to change it.

Cons: After two weeks of using this, I can only think of one.

-Lower volume than the Brita. The Brita holds 24 oz. This is 20oz, but it''s more than the bobble''s 13 or 18.5oz.

I don''t think I should have to say that you should only use potable water in this, this is no Lifesaver bottle that can filter raw sewage. But for filtering regular drinking water, this bottle works amazing. It''s very nice to take with me when I go into the city and fill it from public drinking fountains or even regular tap water when I don''t want to buy overpriced water bottles. But overall, I am very impressed by this product. In my opinion, the only way they could improve it is by making a larger volume bottle (only one model exists in different colors at the time of this 7/2011 writing) or by making an insulated one that I could fill with ice. Enjoy!

I ordered four of these bottles. Three purple and one black. The filter in the purple bottles screws into the cap per the description and seems to work well. The filter in the black bottle was of a different type. It had a ring around the top edge and no thread in the middle to screw it into the cap. The problem with the filter not screwing into the cap is that in order to fill the bottle you have to take the filter out by either reaching into the bottle or by tipping the bottle over dumping any remaining water into your hand which has to be there to catch the filter as it falls out. Either refill/removal method is unhygienic and is prone to losing the filter or having it fall into the sink or other place at which you are filling the bottle.

On the theory that the black bottles have a different type of filter I returned it and ordered another purple bottle. Unfortunately, the replacement purple bottle also had a filter that does not screw into the cap. The same item apparently comes in different styles and there is no way that I have found to tell which ones have the filter that screws into the cap and which don''t when placing the order.

The UPC codes for the two different bottle (filter) types is the same. However, on the UPC block of the bottle package there is what appears to be a model number. The bottle with the screw-on filter has a model number of L51783830A. The bottle with the non-screw filter has model number of L51783830B. The Amazon description of the bottle lists the model number as 1783830. It does not indicate whether it is the A or B version. The cap of the B model has a thread receptacle, so it should accept a filter that has a screw thread, but the filter that comes with the bottle does not have that thread.

The package of the screw type bottle has a copyright dated 2010. The non-screw bottle''s package has a copyright of 2011. I don''t know if I can generalize, but it appears that newer bottles do not come with the screw-on filter.

The picture available for the replacement filters shows the screw on thread on the top of the filter. I hope that doesn''t change when I replace the filters.

I am going to return the latest purple bottle.

I understand now the other comments left about the lid being annoying, you must hold it out of your way or let it hit your face while drinking. It did take some getting used to for me to drink out of this thing. I was dribbling water for a few days until I decided I must suck on the thing in order to not leak water onto myself. The filter really does remove any taste for the water you are drinking. I have poured "Aquafina" into it because I personally feel that that water has a very undesirable taste. It did manage to remove the very distinct taste of it. The filter has a dial for tracking when to change it out and you really have to refill the bottle once it gets to less than half full because it gets harder and harder to drink out of. I haven''t had any leaks so far and except for the first few days of embarrassing moments it''s a purchase.

Update: To my surprise there is way to avoid the cap hitting you in the face LOL! The cap has a small bump and when you pull the loop so that the bump falls under the rim of the bottle it locks in place. The next update will be in about 5 weeks after I return from a trip to Europe. I''ll be living off wine, beer and tap water that hopefully tastes great.

Warning the filter has been changed and as a result this bottle is useless. Bought this bottle earlier this year and was very happy with it, it worked perfectly. When I tried to obtain replacement filters I kept being sent a different type (see pictures submitted by another reviewer at the top), even though the picture was of the one I wanted, with a screw top. The new filters don''t screw into the top, but sit on the top of the bottle, with holes around the edge. So, not all of the water goes through the filter, but worse the lid no longer seals and so the bottle leaks in your bag and dribbles down your clothes when you drink from it. Rubbermaid have now confirmed to me by email that the new type of filter is now the only one available here is their reply "The 1st generation filter refill is no longer available. It has been replaced with the Generation 2 filter. The Generation 2 simply sits in the top of the bottle and the lid screws down to the bottle on top of the filter. It no longer attaches to the filter". It defies belief that someone could have ''improved'' the filter from a simple one that worked perfectly to one that is not fit for the purpose. Looks like I''m not the only one to have this problem as I see other reviewers are commenting.

Rainshow''r Bernoulli Polished Chrome Shower Head

Rainshow''r Bernoulli Polished Chrome Shower Head
  • Fits all standard American plumbing
  • Solid brass (6.7 oz) shower heads crafted by American workers in the United States
  • First U.S. made fixed-action shower head introduced to the American market in over 20 years
  • High Power Shower Spray
  • Perfect for use with shower filters

I bought this shower head because I was disgusted with the crud building up on our old shower head. I wanted something with no plastic and low flow, but I also wanted a powerful shower. This was relatively inexpensive, beautiful, and well-made. It took about the same amount of time to install as it does to change the nozzle on a hose (save for the time spent getting a wrench from the toolbox to remove the previous showerhead). I''m ordering a second one immediately for our other shower.

I now own two if these shower heads, and love them. I went searching for this product because I''m on a well system with less than desirable water pressure. I literally purchased no less than 7 different shower heads looking for one that actually delivered on the pressure promise. This one really improved the pressure without the harsh "spikey" like needle feel often found in similar lower cost big box store heads. This head is also solid metal, and would clearly last forever. If you''re searching for a shower head to increase water pressure, you found it. Now just buy it, and stop beating your head against the wall in frustration every time you take a shower :)

For people who live in homes with low water pressure, this product solves the problem. Using this shower head, you''ll never again complain about low water pressure while taking a shower. However, you cannot adjust the intensity of the water as there is no adjustment on the spray head. Because of this lacking feature, I actually found it painful to take a shower as the water coming from the spray head felt like sharp pins. But, then, I have friends who have also purchased this same shower head, and they love the feel of the water coming from it.

not powerful enough, not much of a spread in spray, might be good for a kids shower

that would be it. I returned for Refund.

Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier

Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier, Oak BurlI like the design and operation of this humidifier. In fact, I have two of them. Ace Hardware gave me extra-fast delivery -no complaints with Ace. The machines humidify very efficiently, put out a lot of moisture, and (unlike many others) are reasonably easy to maintain. Normally it will run fine on low or medium fan settings. Forget about the high fan speed; it sounds like a helicopter taking off.

The first one I bought worked fine some of the time, but generally would not start up again after the humidistat controller automatically shut it off. Through much trial and error, I figured out that you have to center the wick precisely on its hanger rail that runs along the inside of the water chamber so the float aligns correctly. Great -problem solved, although poorly explained in the brief instruction sheet.

Then, at the beginning of the second winter dry season here on the high plains, the motor began to squeal, seize, and stop, especially at low speeds. On high, it would slowly start and then scream for a while and finally run -except it practically shook the unit apart and made it dance along the floor. After a day or so, it would no longer start at all. Clearly the bearings in the motor were shot.

I was about to junk it, when I thought to check the warranty. Sure enough, the warranty ran for a year. I had eight days left!!

I contacted Essick Air via email and a very nice customer service rep put me onto the person in charge of the warranty work. This second person sent form emails that were curt and blunt, but, in fairness, did address my problem. Getting the return papers could not be done via email, and took about two weeks to arrive by snail mail.

Alas, I would have to return the fan power head (they call it the "chassis") to them for repair. This, even though an authorized repair shop here in Denver is less than a half-mile from my condo.

I bought a large shipping box, packed the unit well, and lugged it on my back five blocks to UPS. $33.00 to send it to the factory (in Georgia, I think?), but they promised to reimburse me (and did).

About a month later, with no communication, the chassis arrives back here in my original packing, repaired with a new motor. However, I open the carton, take out the chassis, and it falls apart in my hands! Yup, it''s repaired, but not screwed back together. The screws are lying loose in the bottom of the box and all four screw holes are stripped. The electronics have fallen out and are dangling from their wires.

The prospect of sending it back yet again is now so daunting that I take it into my little work closet and actually reassemble it myself, more or less, and screw it together with larger screws. It was one of those two-hour deals where you wish you were four-handed with long, narrow, double-jointed fingers. I have no idea if all the inside pieces are back in their actual slots or not, but it seems to work OK for now. Pray it does not catch on fire some day.

I contacted Essick Air''s customer service rep just to tell them about the poor repair and got a very passionate apology and a promise to take it up with higher-ups and get back to me. I did not ask for it, but thought I might actually get a new "chassis" out of the deal. I''m not really comfortable with my backyard repair job.

Of course, after that I heard nothing ever again. The higher ups had obviously ducked the problem.

Maybe it''s the fact that I am a retired marketing executive and know better myself, but it amazes me that a national company with a famous brand name would not treat me a little better when fulfilling the terms of a warranty. The customer service person could not have been nicer, but after that the treatment was suspicious, curt, abrupt, and, well, unsophisticated.

The documents I was sent were full of warnings and self-protective disclaimers, but showed little concern for my broken product or my work returning it: if they found that I did not really have a warranty claim, I would have to pay for shipping both ways ($33.00 out, and, were I so foolish to want a broken fan unit, another $33.00 back). Or I could pay for repairs in advance.

All this "attitude" and they had not even looked at my problem yet. The unit as I described it to them was pretty clearly broken, it was obviously a burnt out motor bearing, it must have happened more than once. I felt strongly that they were trying to get me to give up on the warranty. The whole approach implied that I was nuts for even bothering them and probably trying to cheat them. All this for a $10 motor!

From my point of view, of course, it''s about a $150 item that ought to last longer than a year. Much longer.

Oh, yeah, that second one I bought? It arrived, brand new, with a squeak in the fan that even I can hear -and I''m partly deaf. Not quite loud enough to send back though, so we use it on a lower floor. Could never use it in the bedroom. Other than the squeak, it works great. Will it last a year? Stay tuned!

Very few humidifiers work as well as the Bemis. I would recommend it to everyone. There is one cautionary note: Be sure to check the tank and reservoir every day. Five gallons of water do not last very long,so pay attention. This way the owner will have good, clean humidity. The unit is easy to take apart and clean.

Buy Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier Now

Mine too arrived with a cracked cabinet. The manufacturer''s packaging apparently allows the contents to shift enough that the heavy fan assembly can crack the flimsy cabinet. The crack is at the right rear corner and extends about eight inches from the top. It is a clean crack with the separated pieces fitting together without gaps. I used two inch transparent packing tape to seal it shut and the crack has nearly disappeared. I had initially decided to return the item but opted to keep it rather than hassle with return shipping. A replacement wick shipped separately would also have to be returned otherwise.

The item has few parts so assembly is straight forward enough. Do ensure that the wick is hooked to the cabinet along the wick''s top and that the foam float is in its place at the bottom of the cabinet. Another reviewer noted that a replacement filter did include the extended wick retainer to hold the float and rod assembly in place. The wick retainer may be easily removed from an old wick and installed on a replacement wick. I know of no easy way to remember to do so before discarding an old wick. Perhaps I should tape a note on the wick while I''m thinking of it.

Kinks in the filler hose restricted water flow to such a degree that I had to hold the assembly to the faucet when filling the bottle although I confess that reducing the water flow to a more moderate rate solved the problem. I do tend to be impatient at times. The bottle can rest solidly on the floor while filling this is a plus. The filled bottle weighs a bit over 20 pounds but user-friendly handles at top and bottom allow easy carrying. After thinking it was missing from the shipment, I spotted the bottle''s black cap at the bottom of the cabinet''s black interior. Also look for the black rubber gasket that helps seal the cap to the bottle. After inserting the filled bottle into the cabinet, it took about fifteen minutes to empty into the cabinet''s reservoir.

The initial emptying was accompanied by periodic gurgling noises as air bubbled up through the remaining water in the bottle. Two subsequent fillings confirmed that the gurgling noises will continue. The child in me finds these noises amusing and pleasant. Although I have no pets, it seems likely to me that pets may react to the noises in unpredictable ways and it might be wise to observe their reactions. A good sized dog could topple the humidifier without much difficulty so having a 5-gallon wet-dry vacuum at hand might be a precaution to consider.

Another reviewer commented that the bottle''s cap is replaceable should it fail to function because of mineral deposits. If my cap reaches that state, I will try soaking it in vinegar before spending money on a replacement. Seems worth a try anyway.

On its highest setting, the fan is noisy enough to mask quiet conversation, nearby jackhammers, and, possibly, World War III. The medium fan setting is also noisy and the lowest setting noticeable. I will soon move the unit away from my living room to a hallway near the other end of the apartment.

I used a Caliber III Digital Thermometer Hygrometer, also purchased through Amazon, to gauge the humidifier''s effectiveness. Before switching on the humidifier, the relative humidity level was below the gauge''s display limit. Within an hour of running the Essick Air H12-400 at high speed, the gauge indicated 27% humidity at 68.7° F in the living room. A bedroom at the other end of the apartment had reached 20% humidity at the same temperature by that time. The noisy box was certainly putting moisture into the air.

I live in South Dakota and have hot-water baseboard heat. The outside temperature has been between below 10° F since I first turned on the humidifier. After twelve hours of running mostly at the lowest fan setting, the unit has raised the humidity level to 40% in my apartment. I expect that level to climb as the carpeting, mattresses, and soft furniture have absorbed their fill of moisture and stabilize. It hadn''t occurred to me before this moment that bone dry furniture may be more likely to be set alight by an errant spark than furniture in a more humid environment. I have no evidence that this is so but it does help to justify the purchase in my mind.

So far I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it with the caveats expressed above. I also recommend the Caliber III Digital Thermometer Hygrometer. I''ve also ordered, through Amazon, three inexpensive Western Digital Analog Hygrometers to place around the apartment to see how well the humidity is being distributed. I''m hopeful that having such information will help me determine the optimal location for the humidifier.

We needed a full-house humidifier, and this does the job nicely. It is easy to fill, and very quiet on the lower settings. When you crank it up, it does get noisier, but when it''s really dry it certainly works faster. We have it in the hall next to our bedroom, and it doesn''t bother us at all. One thing that may get a bit confusing is that this model does not have a 5 gallon basin. Rather, it has a 2.5 gallon basin and a 2.5 gallon removable tank. It comes with a hose that fits snugly over a faucet which I love because I can stand the tank on the floor, feed the hose into it, and fill it hands-free. Nice.

I bought this humidifier to combat the low humidity of NorthEastern Winters. My house is 2,400 Sqr Ft and this unit is stretched to keep the humidity above 40%. The highest speed is quite noisy and can only be used at night or when we are away. I recommend it but only for smaller homes.

I researched Reverse Osmosis water systems for sometime before I decided to buy a Tap Master. I went with their ''Artesia''n model that adds some minerals back to the water for alkalinity the unit is the same as this one other than that. I buy products online but to spend this much money and have a product shipped from someone I really did not know was scary. We have a small kitchen and I was concerned about it fitting under the counter and about instillation. Everything went well and the company was very helpful. It has been over a year and my husband and I have been extremely pleased with the unit. The taste is great, the unit has great water pressure and flow and we use it daily and love it. We did have a handy man that works for us install it but he thought it was easy. Pure water is so important to your health ! It is worth the investment. Highly recommended.

Update:

Well we are into our 3rd year with this system and still really pleased. We change the filter annually and this year just to be safe we ordered an upgrade to our filter a tiny bit to protect the unit from chlorimides our city has been considering adding. I had asked about the PH normally produced from this system and was told 7. Due to all the craze I''d been reading about alkalinity I had been buying some high PH (9+) bottled water in addition to our using our filtered water for cooking. I mentioned that when I called and was told that the high PH waters do not really add to health and that I can feel confident just using my filtered water. I have confidence that these folks really know water and appreciate that while they are very knowledgeable they do not try to over ''sell'' you. I think a good solid product at a good price and good service.

Jura-Capresso 13214 Impressa Z5 Automatic Coffee Center Save 36% Off

Jura-Capresso 13214 Impressa Z5 Automatic Coffee CenterYes, you''ll flinch when you see the price tag! Right now this is the king of super automatics. My work hours are all over the place and many times there is just no time to devote to pulling the perfect espresso from a manual or semi machine. Add to that I drink cappuccino''s or lattes 95% of the time. This machine was made for those who drink mostly cappuccino''s or lattes and it couldn''t be easier. Many long time aficionados on the coffeegeek.com forums will tell you that you cannot pull anything close to a "god shot" from a super automatic and they are correct. But what you get is pretty darn good especially if you love the taste of espresso but don''t want to devote your life to making perfect shots every pull. The Z5 is the model of simplicity and produces consistent very good shots of espresso and excellent latte''s & cappuccino''s every time with little time. I had this machine programmed, up and going just 10 minutes out of the box. I am not an expert on pulling shots manually. Setting the knob to the hottest setting, strongest espresso and finest grind yielded a very tasty shot that was far better than any I have had at Starbuck''s. I used Coffee Emergency espresso roast. The crema was good and the temperature excellent. I used a Capressa S9 a year ago and was not happy with the temperature of the shots coming out of the machine. They are much improved on the Z5. Back to cappuccino''s... Fill the milk thermos with your choice of milk...set knob to cappuccino and hit the button. A gorgeous cappuccino was produced on the very first try. I didn''t have to move the cup...it was all automatic! It took me ages to learn to make a decent cappuccino on same thing manually. Again...much better than at Starbuck''s and any of the local coffee houses. The Z5 has a timer that can be set to turn the machine on and off when you want it to. Settings for water level, brewing time, amount of heated milk and foam, can all be pre set or adjusted with a knob live as your beverage is being made. The unit is whisper silent even when grinding beans. It is a well built piece of equipment that is UL approved for both residential and commercial use. I couldn''t be happier with it. Should you get this machine? Bottom line is that if you want to make espresso''s as a hobby and are going for that ultimate "god shot" every time don''t even think about this machine. If you are a working professional who just wants a great cappuccino, latte and espresso with absolute minimum fuss that will beat Starbuck''s and your local coffee shop.... think about buying this machine.

I have just replaced my Gaggia Titanium which after 3 months decided to break down. I decided rather than replace with the same machine to go with the much-praised Jura machines. The Z5 particularly appealed with it''s unique One-Touch Cappucino function, which avoids the clumsy looking "automatic frothing attachments" found on so many machines.

The machine was easy to set up, and has almost the same footprint as the Titanium, so doesn''t take up too much space. It comes with a classy looking thermal milk container (1 litre) which keeps milk at the ready and chilled for up to 8 hours. The front of the machine is brushed aluminium (not plastic as in many of the Jura machines) which is far easier to keep clean than the Titanium''s brushed stainless steel (fingerprints!).

The display prompts are clear (product names such as "1 espresso" can be changed should you so desire I personally can''t see the point of this, since the name isn''t displayed until you press the key to dispense the drink.

The temperature (also adjustable) of the coffee, hot water and also the milk is fantastic I have mine set on the "normal" setting and it is very hot much more so than the Titanium and many other machines which even set to "Highest" still could be hotter.

The crema was good, and the taste great. The brew group is non-removable and self-cleaning (you are prompted when to run a rinse cycle or pop a cleaning tablet in).

You can program the quantity, temperature and strength of all drinks, and choose to override these on-the-fly should you wish, which is very handy.

The water container is larger than the Titanium and most other domestic machines and you can use Claris water filter cartridges, or alternatively opt to use descaling tablets every so often (again, you are prompted when to do this).

The dump box, and drip tray are suitably large so as to not have to be emptied too frequently (every 20 cups).

I only have 2 grumbles with this machine. One is that central coffee spout (which illuminates the cups during dispensing of coffee) does not adjust high enough for large mugs. The silly thing is that you can also dispense coffee from the cappuccino spout which offers 2 interchangeable spouts one for small cups and one for tall mugs. Why they couldn''t make the central coffee spout raise to the same height is a shame, but not the end of the world. My second gripe is that the consumables ie. filters / descaling tablets / cappuccino cleaner / machine cleaning tablets are way over-priced. And since you have to use Jura-brand ones to keep within warranty conditions, you don''t have much option but to pay these high prices.

Overall though, if you have the money, then go for it this machine is fantastic, looks great, and is the quietest fully automatic by far this doesn''t wake up the whole house when you make a coffee!

After returning both a Saeco Primea Touch Plus (it gave me an error message after less than 2 months, at which time I was told to return the machine to the manufacturer for repair), and the new DeLonghi Gran Dama, which has a serious problem with the milk carafe (it doesn''t fit properly on the machine I had this problem with not one, but two machines), I think I''ve finally found the answer. I was always dissatisfied with the milk temperature (I use a lot of milk in my lattes), but now with this machine the milk is very hot, as is the espresso no need to microwave, as with some of the other super-automatics.

Set up was fairly fast (I wasn''t as fast as one of the reviewers at 10 minutes, but had it pretty well figured out in less than an hour), the first few test drinks are excellent. I read somewhere that you couldn''t store the thermal carafe in the refrigerator, but I think this is a fallacy. The Capresso DVD, as well as the instructions, say that you can, and I can''t think of any reason that you can''t.

If you want to make the coffee directly in a large (16 oz.) paper cup, you can do so with the left spouts another reviewer points out that the center spouts don''t raise high enough to accomodate a very large cup, which is true, but with all of the customization features, you can program the machine to dispense the coffee from the left spout, which is tall enough.

After having terrible, rude, largely non-responsive customer service from Saeco, I asked was happy to hear from a number of sources that Jura Capresso has excellent customer service. I haven''t had to test it yet, but from everything I heard, I''m hopeful that it''ll be good.

Pros:

Great tasting espresso, cappucino and latte

Fairly easy to master

Great looking, titanium-faced, as opposed to the metal-clad plastic featured on many other expensive super automatics

Cons:

It''s definitely expensive, but still seems in line with other similar machines, and it''s better designed

Lastly, I would recommend the Z5 versus the Z6, unless you are totally sold on a chrome face the machine does splash a bit, as one would expect, and the matte finish on the Z5 seems much more practical and forgiving of fingerprints, splashes, etc.

UPDATE AS OF SEPTEMBER 5, 2008

I''ve now had the machine for over a year and wanted to update the review with some customer service feedback. It still works flawlessly (knock wood), but after recently moving, realized I had lost the coffee scoop. I called Capresso customer service, and they immediately sent me a new one at no charge. A small thing, certainly, but a great indicator of the respect with which they treat their customers. If you''re in the market for a machine like this, I give this one the highest marks.

First there is no doubt that this is a very expensive purchase, but if you have two Starbucks drinkers in the house it''s worth consideration. After I determined that the ROI (given our SBUX frequency) on this machine was 3 years, we purchased our first machine (The Capresso 3000) about 4 years ago. It was love at first drink. We went from stopping for coffee every morning on the way to the office, to making it at home with some great to-go cups we purchased at Costco. When the C3000 finally broke, we boxed up the machine and took it right back to Williams Sonoma (sorry Amazon) and they happily took it back and upgraded us to the Z5 for the difference between what we paid for the first unit and the price of the new Z5 (about $350).

We love the Z5 !! My husband is a "straight" coffee guy, but I am a late girl who loves the how easy it is to hook up the milk container and make my late with the push of a button. I also purchased Starbuck vanilla syrup so I can make my own Vanilla Late''s at home.

If you have the disposable income to consider this, it is a great machine. After reading the customer service stories in previous reviews, I would consider buying from Williams Sonoma who offers a lifetime guarantee on anything purchased through them. When my $2,699 Capresso failed after 4 years, they took it back without question and upgraded me to the Z5. Through the entire process they just thanked me for my business. I am a customer for life and can''t say enough about how much we love this coffee machine !!

Having had an amazing cup of coffee at a neighbors house (made by a Z5), I was sold. Two weeks later, our Starbucks solution had arrived. As mentioned by other reviewers, the coffee, lattes, caps, etc... were excellent and the machine performed as advertised. In fact, we had regular visits by our neighbors, just for the coffee.

But please be warned that these machines do not last and will require major repairs after the warranty has lapsed. Both my machine and that of my neighbors have stopped working, displaying "error 8" and refusing to do anything other than take up space on the kitchen counter. I realize that things aren''t made like they used to be, but for $3,000+ I expect a heck of a lot more than one year''s worth of light use. While lacking some of the features of the Z5, there are plenty of "super automatics" that are far more reliable and much cheaper. Don''t bother with this machine.

Philips Saeco RI9828/47 Talea Touch Plus Automatic Espresso Machine Save 41% Off

Philips Saeco RI9828/47 Talea Touch Plus Automatic Espresso MachineI am so frustrated with this very expensive machine. When it works, it works okay. It pushes through the espresso and then adds water to each level of coffee drink (espresso, coffee, long coffee). The problem is (and I have called my retailer twice) that sometimes is pushes the after-espresso water through and sometimes it takes forever to push it through. I tried the machine with both the water filter and without the filter, but that made no difference. The retailer suggested that the grind was too fine, so I set it on the coarsest grind. That did absolutely nothing. On the second phone call the retail service rep said if the filter/strainer in the brew group felt "burry" then it might be plugged with grounds and unable to pass water. I was so excited to find that was the case, and it worked great for two more cups. I have been embarrassed every time we have had company. It knows when there are guests and malfunctions every time. I have used different roasts of espresso from a medium to a darker roast and it really doesn''t make any difference. To warn you, Saeco or at least the retailer, (I don''t see it in the user''s manual) does not recommend using a darker espresso because the oilier beans jam up the machine. In truth, whatever bean I use the machine has trouble putting water through. I have had it take so long that the coffee is cold by the time the cup is filled.

I attempted to return the machine to the retailer, but they have a 30 day return policy and I have had it for two months (the first month I was out of town so it never got tested) and the retailer will not take the machine back. I will be calling Saeco tomorrow and seeing if they will take it back or have some novel idea for repair. I do not have high hopes. I probably will try to ebay it as scrap with a bold print caveat emptor and no returns warning.

I do not recommend this machine and consider it to be a failed $1000 dollar experiment. If after calling Saeco tomorrow, there is a wonder fix, I will gladly revise my review. I want it to work. I enjoy it when it does work.

I drop 900$ on an item and I expect it to work, and work flawlessly right out of the box. There was no damage to the exterior or anything to that extent...it just straight up wouldn''t work internally. I called Saeco''s customer service and we decided that it wasn''t user error and the machine was truly broken. Thank goodness Amazon has a no questions return policy.

I owned a Saeco Vienna digital before this, and it worked wonderfully for over 6 years. When it broke down, I figured I''d stick with Saeco but decided to move up to a more expensive model. The Talea Touch Plus had most of the features I was looking for. It''s a good looking machine that produces decent espresso on a consistent basis (but not great), at least when it works properly. Therein lies the rub! It functioned fine for 3 days before the frothing & steaming unit completely broke down. Saeco service was attentive and speedy and paid for the shipping both ways. I had it back in one week. The repair facility stated that the panarello steam system was assembled incorrectly and they fixed it.

It functioned fine for another 4 weeks, until the brew system crapped out and the unit wouldn''t brew any coffee. I only use the unit to make about 2 cappuccinos daily, and an occasional tall coffee. Once again, Saeco paid for shipping and I got it back in 1 week. This time the pump system had to be replaced. It now functions ok and makes the coffee and steams milk, but whatever pump they put in there is over twice as loud as the original (it''s very noisy), plus the steam wand drips continuously until I brew the first coffee. There is also some dripping from the coffee dispensing spout.

I was ready to send it back for a total replacement, but figured at least this is now working, and Saeco extended my warranty for an extra year. I didn''t want to chance going through this again on a new unit.

Overall, based on my machine as it is now, I can say that the coffee is decent to good on a consistent basis, and the unit is very easy to operate. However, the water tank empties fast, and steaming milk may be a tad awkward due to the steam wand unable to swivel left or right it does swing in and out though. The automatic clean cycle is a convenient feature, as is the descaling cycle. One really needs to clean this (and all automatic units) regularly.

I would not recommend this unit to others due to the apparent lack of quality control at the factory (incorrectly assembled parts and bad pump). I would recommend one consider other models and/or other brands. If I needed a replacement, I would consider going back to the Vienna model.

I am extremely happy with this machine! I use it often, and make cappuccinos with it daily. I am not a "coffee connoisseur", I just know what I like. When making cappuccinos, I can make them to suit me much more like the European style, and much less like the chain coffee bars in the U.S. This is the second Saeco Talea machine that I have owned, and both have worked perfectly. My sister-in-law has one as well, with no complaints.

I thought this would be the machine of my dreams, (at this price it should be!), it is not. My machine will not "wake up" from standby mode or put itself into standby mode, so I have to wait in the morning for it to heat up. Which completely eliminates why I bought the $$$ machine rather than the $ machine. I will be returning it, but here is the lowdown on how it works.

This machine will grind up to 10ish grams of coffee and dispense that into a maximum of 18ish ounces of water (you get less coffee though b/c the puck absorbs some of that water). You can set each of the three icons to dispense whatever custom combination of temperature(a,b,c), preinfusion time (a,b, off), grind volume (a,b,c, preground) and water volume (slider on 1.5" bar adjustable by roughly 1/20th of an ounce) you would like and there is a dial on the front to additionally control how long the water takes to pass through the puck which affects the "Strength" of the coffee.

Rather than using the somewhat inscrutable "coffee volume" slider you can manually do a beverage and hit the "stop" button when you want it to stop flowing, and then save that setting. So for me to get my morning thermos of 16oz of strong crema coffee I had to program "Long Coffee" to be preinfusion=strong, aroma(amount of beans ground)=strong, turn the front dial all the way to the right and I had to hit "Stop" when it filled my measuring cup with 8oz coffee and save it, which meant that when I hit "Long Coffee" twice (it will do twice in a row if you hit it twice but no more than that) it would spew out 16oz of coffee.

So theoretically (were it to wake itself up in the morning) all I would have to do is hit that button twice and put my cup (thermos is too tall) under there to catch it, it would take about 3 minutes or more to fill that cup. As it is I have to wait for it to "Rinse" (put a cup under the spout to catch the "Rinse"), and then warm up before I can have coffee. It doesn''t take long, but it seems long when you are walking out the door, like more than 5 minutes for coffee, when I could just pour it out from a regular automatic grind_n_brew pot and be on my way.

I have additionally programmed the "Coffee" icon to make me a 12oz mug when pressed twice and my "Espresso" button to make me a long espresso, which when I press twice gives me a nice amount for my latte.

Ugh, my latte, the frothing on this thing is vexing. I can froth and latte art pretty well with a regular one hole steam wand, and always prided myself on my microfoam. I can barely steam milk with this thing. The steam wand on the left moves about two inches fore or aft but does not move up or down or swing out in any way. So my milk pitcher is always smacking into the spouts on the front. The rubber handle on the steam wand (so you don''t get burned moving it) is so close to the bottom of the wand that once your milk starts frothing you can''t push the wand back to the bottom of the milk container or it will come up over the handle. Once you are done steaming you can''t just rest your milk under the steam wand (to catch the drips) because the drip tray is curved and the steam wand is over the narrow part, so your jug of milk would just fall off the tray.

The drip tray is electric which is stupid, small and flimsy. It is bound to fail and doesn''t hold your full cup without bending almost enough that your cup is going to slide right onto the floor. I would just leave it at the bottom setting unless you are really pulling shots into two tiny espresso cups.

How''s the coffee you ask. It''s decent. You wouldn''t be disappointed if you paid $2.50 for it, but it is not the best espresso you''ve ever had, or even close to the espresso I can make on my semi-automatic machine. But it''s faster and I can do it with less effort. The grind seems fine enough and the temperature seems hot enough to do a good extraction, no sourness or bitterness (left temp on medium as it came set on). It is crema coffee, not drip, so don''t expect it to taste like your coffee maker. Some of the crema is fake and white due to the dial being turned all the way to the right and creating that extra sort-of fake back pressure on the puck, so it can seem floamy, but dialing it back a notch fixes that without affecting strength.

It''s prompts you to fill the water tank when it is 3/4 empty and dump the pucks when there are maybe 6 of them in there, so you might as well just make it a habit to do them both at the same time anyway b/c it will stop your coffee and prompt you to do so and if you take too long it will cancel your coffee and dump your puck even if you didn''t get all the way done.

The bypass doser only accepts one scoop of preground coffee at a time so don''t think you will be making anything other than decaf single small pucks and then pulling your desired quantity of water through them.
