Blueair 400 Series Replacement Particle Filter

Blueair 400 Series Replacement Particle Filter for the 400 Series Air PurifiersI was surprised and not happy when I first looked into air purifiers and found the one recommended most often --Blueair--used filters that cost about $50 and had to be replaced every 6 months. That was a few years ago. Since then, I have not begrudged one dime of what I have spent for replacement filters. I have pets that shed, I live in Manhattan on a street that has been worked on constantly, creating lots of airborne dirt, and my building was repointed a couple years ago, providing more of the same. And I have allergies.

But I sleep well every night and wake up without a stuffy nose. These filters work, and so does the purifier-as well as the day I first turned it on. So far it has outlived both the clock radio and a tower fan.

Like the other reviewer, I was a bit taken back by the $50 price of a filter that is supposed to be replaced every 6 months. But I bought the BlueAir 402 anyway.

This is one of those products that truly works! No false hype, no bogus claims. Since I don''t have pets, and nobody smokes in my home, I have found that I can get a year out of a filter without a problem. At the same time, I am impressed at how well this filter performs. The intake side of my 402 air purifier gets dusty the filter does show a darkening over time and the outlet screen of the purifier has *never* needed cleaned. That says a lot about the effectiveness of this filter.

There may be cheaper, and there are systems that use multiple pre-filters to extend the filter life, but there are no better. If you are considering a BlueAir 402 or other model, don''t let the price of this filter turn you away. You ARE getting what you pay for.

Buy Blueair 400 Series Replacement Particle Filter Now

If you use the Blueair 402 Air Purifier for your office or bedroom, it truly is best if you change the filters every six months. It helps to write the date of the installation of the filter on the side facing you when you open the door of the unit so you know exactly when you put it in.

We found the best prices for replacement filters on Amazon.com. In the marketplace, they range from $[..] to $[..] each. Often, if you buy two or more, you get a good price break. They don''t go "bad", so the pricing can make a difference on a per unit cost if you stock up on them in volume.

It''s also good to clean the back metal screen on the unit ever other month. Turn off the unit, and clean upwards with a damp sponge until all the accumulated dust and dirt is removed. Let the screen dry and then turn on the unit again.

We find the 402 a great filter that makes no noise and does the job well.

I installed this filter in our BlueAir 403 in just two minutes. After removing the old filter and vacuuming out the interior per instructions I slid this new filter in the slot, aligning the arrows as directed. It is a snug, perfect fit which allows for maximum filter efficiency. Although not inexpensive, this filter, and the system in total has vastly improved the air quality in our bedroom. The plastic-wrapped filter was packaged in a rigid cardboard box which was then placed in a large shipping box; there was not a wrinkle in it. BlueAir filters are advertised to be environmentally friendly, decomposing into carbon dioxide and water which was a plus.

Haan Slim & Light Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer and Vapor Steamer Save 43% Off

Haan Slim & Light Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer and Vapor Steamer, Model SI-35First off, i''d like to tell you a little about myself so that you can understand my view when writing this review: I am the type of person that has to do all the cleaning myself because I want it done a certain way, and no other way will do because it has to be just "perfect". Luckily, my husband was willing to learn "my way" and he does it that way and I don''t have to worry about it. I am VERY picky about my cleaning. I used a lot of bleach for disinfecting and used to buy bleach by the gallons at Sam''s Club because not only would I bleach my bathrooms, countertops, etc, but I would fill a mop bucket with bleach water and bleach my tile floors. When I clean, it''s CLEAN. However, about 9 months ago I discovered "steam", and I thought, well, it''s still killing germs, etc, etc, but, and i''m not using all of that bleach on the floors. Cause, let''s face it, even though I would mop with the bleach water and do two buckets of clean water to rinse the floor, there''s still going to be residue from the cleaner bottom line.

So, as I said, I discovered the Steam mop. Went to the store, bought the Shark. My 88 year old Grandma was with me that day, she too bought the Shark. Ok, let me just say, I LOVED the concept of using the steam on the floor instead of mopping and using all of that bleach. WAS NOT happy with the pumping and pumping and pumping and pumping and pumping you have to do to get it to produce the steam. What a pain in the @## that is. Turns out, it''s way more of a workout than mopping. You are sweating up a storm by the time you are done. It was getting my floors clean, it was, however the effort it took to get them there was more that I was willing to do. In the meantime, my mother became curious about steam cleaning as well, because, quite frankly, she too was tired of the mop and bucket. I figured there had to be a better option than this pumping my @## off stuff, so I started looking online and at first had picked out another brand of a "continuous steam" type steamer. I figured, ok, let me go to the local Vaccuum Store in town and see if they carry it. They did not carry that particular brand I was looking to purchase, however, they did carry the HAAN. Of course, I had never heard of this brand before, but they swore that it was much better than that other brand I was mentioning and assured me I would like it. So, on a whim, I bought the original Haan FS-20 (the yellow and white one). That was earlier this year. Let me tell you, I have not picked up a mop and bucket since like April of this year. It is such a pleasure to mop (if i can even call it mopping) the floors now. My tile floors are clean, and I mean, residue-free clean. I know it''s killing the germs, etc, and it is so easy, literally a child, or husband :) could do this. I am serious. You just simply fill the tank of the boiler, and it boils the water to produce the steam. The floors are so clean and residue free, that if you are wearing nice clean socks, you''re liable to slide on the tile. Well, my mother became jealous of this NEW steamer because when I got the original HAAN, I had given her my Shark to use. And although she loved the concept as I did, the pumping was a pain for her as well. NOW, she wants what I got. Let me tell you, I tell EVERYONE about my steam mop. Matter of fact, I''ve gotten about 4 ladies at work steaming their floors now. One lady says, oh, I get down on my hands and knees". I''m like, FORGET THAT! Get a HAAN. And she did. I got people steamin'' all over the place. ahahha. OK~ SO~ Fastforward~

I saw that they came out with this new "SLim and Light" contraption. HMMMMM, that looks really, really nice. I wonder how it works? well, I read and read and read reviews. NOW, I want one of THESE!!! (I still love my original Haan FS-20, but this looks even BETTER!!) Let me just say, these people that give this new Slim and Light a bad rap because it didn''t make their 30 year old warn out linoleum look brand new, or pick up all of their kids leftover food on the floor, or didn''t pick up a clump of dried stuck-on something that had been there for two weeks, COME ON PEOPLE!!! There are limitations to everything. First of all, IT IS NOT A VACCUUM, nor does it ever claim to be. YES, you do have to vaccuum first. Coming from a person that has two labrador retrievers, you must vaccuum. And you should anyway. It steam cleans, it does not pick up a pile of cheerios or doggie hair tumbleweeds. VACCUUM FIRST!!! Also, yes, steaming times on one tank of water will vary, depending on how fast or slow you push the steamer. Some people say, oh, one tank only lasted me through doing the kitchen, well, if you go really slow, like i do to make sure i''m getting it real good, yes, you will have to refill by the time you get to the dining room. Some people move the steamer around faster, covering more area quickly, and get all of their floors done on the one tank. That''s fine too. I am just a little unclear on how fast to actually move the steamer over a certain area in order for it to be cleaning effectively, so, I go slower and refill the tank more often. Whatever, doesn''t matter really.

I decided to get my Mother and Grandmother one for Christmas this year. By this time, both Mom and Grandma had stopped using their Shark and had gone back to mopping at this point. I did order them the new Slim and Light for Christmas this year. I was so excited to give this to them, I could not wait. I COULD NOT WAIT to bust it out of the box and try it for myself, just could not wait. Also, I just had to try this new mop because another lady at work wants to go to steam cleaning and wants to buy the HAAN, but, wasn''t sure if she wanted the original HAAN like I had, or if she would like the new S & L better. SO, i suggested to her...... let Mom and Grandma open theirs on Christmas, I''ll use it and let you know which one I like better between the two, because after all, at this point, I had only read reviews and seen pictures of it on the web. She thought that was a good idea. So she was waiting with baited breath to find out which one she was going to buy!! WOW, is this NICE!!! Ok, so, now, how do I tell my husband I want the new S & L without him getting mad? hmmm, i''m going to have to work on that because I have GOT TO get me one of these. Mom loves it. She has steamed her floors every day since Christmas.

Ok.........

PROS:

~Light.

~Cute

~Tank pops off the back and you can just refill and go

~The long handle and the shape of the handle make it really easy to use, no bending over.

~Head is very low profile and will go under (but not completely under, mind you) the stove, cabinets, fridge, etc. (depending on the height of your appliances)

~Pads are re-washable. Take them off, throw them in the wash with your clothes, throw them in the dryer with your clothes.

~Super easy to push, NO PUMPING REQUIRED.

~You are not sweating up a storm when you are finished.

~You know your floors are getting clean, truly clean without any chemical residue

~It WILL remove some stains or stuck on stuff (IF) you hold it over the spot for about 10 seconds or so.

~It comes with the carpet tray attachment so you can freshen your carpet, couch, bedding, mattress, dog bed, etc). IT IS NOT STANLEY STEAMER!!! NOR DOES IT CLAIM TO BE! It WILL NOT steam clean your carpets like Stanley Steamer. There is a difference. However, it will help loosen a stain so that it can be cleaned out of the carpet, and it will take the smell out from a pet accident, etc. It freshens because it is killing mold, dust mites, bacteria, etc.

~Husbands and children can use!! Can we say BONUS!!!

CONS:

~Cord is a little shorter than the Shark, BUT, that is peanuts compared to the ease and positive benefits. No big deal.

NOTES:

~What''s the difference between the FS-20 and the new S & L? Well, the FS-20 works on a boiler system, basically you fill the tank, it boils the water to produce continuous steam. The S & L uses an internal pump. You WILL hear a slight fluttering noise as the mop is pumping the steam out for you. This is normal. (I have actually found that the steam comes out more vigorously on the new S & L than mine because it is being pumped out).

~Wear shoes or at least socks when steaming the floors. You may not think that it is steaming all that much, but let me tell you, if you get it too close to your foot, and it burns the skin in between your toes, you''ll know it!! (obviously a personal experience).

~Don''t be a cheap @##. Buy distilled water to use in the machine. It will keep it from getting all crusty and crudded up with mineral deposits like your coffee pot does. I use only distilled water. The machine will last longer this way and the steam jets won''t get clogged.

~Take the pad off the unit and throw it in the wash or at least the hamper when you are done steaming. If you let it sit on the unit after you''ve used it and store it that way, the pad can get musty smelling.

~My advise, buy 2 extra pads. You can never have enough.

~If you''ve been steaming for a while and the pad starts to get saturated, just put a new pad on. This will avoid the complaining of streaking on the floors as some people state.

Assembly of this steam cleaner consists of snapping the handle on and pressing on the cleaning pads. Uses distilled water for the best cleaning without having minerals that tap water would introduce into the boiler, so it should have a long life. I have porcelain tile and laminated wood flooring and both were cleaned thoroughly and quickly. The steaming sounds were so quiet it didn''t even disturb the cat! After cleaning about 1600 sq ft, I laundered the 2 cleaning pads on gentle cycle and air dried them. Only some small matter was still on the pad surfaces and that pulled out easily. If you first vacuum your surfaces to pick up all the loose debris, you won''t have much to stick to the cleaning pad, which has a microcloth with just enough "tooth" to grab hair, threads, etc. This product will allow you to clean under the bed, but it does not have a swivel head, so you may still need to hand clean areas that are too tight to negotiate, such as between toilet and wall. The cleaned floors passed the WHITE SOCK test, so I highly recommend this product.

Update June 2012 I am still loving this steam cleaner. I purchased additional pads when I saw a mall demonstration of the product earlier this year. Now I have two colors of pads (they are of the same materials) and use one color for floors and the other for everything else.

I love this product. It does exactly what it says it will. Picks up dirt/dust. Makes the floor feel really clean beneath my bare feet.

I usually would mop very rarely due to back/shoulder pain, but this is very easy to use, lightweight and didn''t cause any discomfort. Also, I love that it uses no chemicals. Because I have two cats, I''d use the swiffer wet and then go over it with water to remove the chemical residue. I didn''t want them licking the poison cleaner off of their paws, nor did I want that on my feet. Also, the swiffer cleaner smell/chemical made me itch.

I have hardwood floors in most of my apartment plus tile in the kitchen and ceramic tile in the bathroom. It cleaned all the floors really well and easily. I do sweep prior to use. I also used the glide attachment on my sisel area rug. It was definitely brighter afterwards and felt cleaner. There was a musty oder due to all the recent dampness; there is no smell at all now.

I did notice after two rooms the pad was becoming too saturated and it was more difficult to glide over the floor, so I changed the pad and went on to the next rooms. I would suggest buying the extra pads so as not to be without a clean one to change up.

I can highly recommend this product. I''ve already recommended it to my friends who also hate to mop!

After a lot of research, I went with this model, because I wanted something more durable and with hotter steam than the shark, but had read reviews that other steam mops may not fit underneath some cabinets (which would have been really irritating). Trust me, I went back and forth between this model and the FS-20 (yellow model) with the short handle attachment for at least a week.

Well, I''ve now used this steam mop for 2 weeks, and I am impressed!

Here are the pros in no particular order:

1. A tank of distilled water lasts over 20 minutes. The removable tank makes it easy to pour any unused water back into the distilled water jug, too (since it is not recommended to store water in your steam mop).

2. I was able to clean my extremely filthy vinyl entryway, my (small) kitchen and two (small) bathrooms in 23 minutes, and that was when I went slowly and lightly scrubbed some ground-in dirt. Will this work miracles for dirt that''s been ground in since 1993? No, but it does way better than anything else I''ve tried (including Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and good old acetone-both of which took the finish off the floor, too). Because of my small rooms, I cannot comment on the cord length, although it''s not a huge deal to unplug it, move it, and plug it in again, because it''s pretty lightweight.

3. Hairspray residue in the bathroom was completely gone within 2 cleanings (nothing but hand scrubbing had ever completely cleaned that before--the Wet Jet left it dull and a little sticky) All of the floors were left completely shiny and so clean that they were actually a little slick (I feel like doing a Risky Business scene here).

4. The mop was extremely easy to assemble and use.

5. You do not have to wait for the machine to cool down to refill the tank. Simply unplug, remove the water tank, refill, plug back in, and in less than a minute, you''re ready to go.

6. It truly fits underneath just about everything (a few inches, anyway).

7. As with the other Haan steam mop, no pumping or trigger work is necessary (the steam is always on).

8. The pads are very thick and absorbent, much more so than most microfiber towels. Since pad quality appears to be an issue with some other steam mop brands, I thought I''d mention it. They hold up well in the washing machine, too, and air-dry flat. They also adhere well without any clips, so you can use your foot to remove them when they''re dirty.

Now for the cons :(

1. There is no short handle attachment for this, so to clean the countertops or use the gliding attachment to sanitize furniture, you''d have to wield the entire mop around. I was excited when I thought that perhaps I could just attach the black handle directly to the base without the middle portion of the handle attached (why, oh why, Haan, did you not design your attachment points just a little bit differently??), but alas, it isn''t possible, just in case you were wondering. You''ll see what I''m talking about here, if you get one of these. Luckily, I also have the handheld Haan steamer for those jobs.

2. It only swivels forward and backward, not side-to-side. That feature would be very nice for getting into tighter, more awkward spaces. I cope with this problem by locking the mop into its upright position, grabbing the lowest portion of the handle, and moving the mop side to side across those areas (not necessarily a pretty sight).

3. The cleaning pad/head is very wide (nearly 7") from front to back, which I suppose is nice for a bigger cleaning surface area, but it''s not going to be able to get behind your toilet unless you have a freakishly large space behind your toilet.

Not necessarily a pro or a con:

1. I''m just throwing this out there so that people know. There is a pump that gets the water from the tank into the steam area. The other Haan (FS-20) uses a simple boiler system. The good news is that the steam comes out of the steam mop quite vigorously this way. However, if you wanted something absolutely silent, this isn''t it, although it is VERY quiet (oddly enough, one of my cats runs over to watch whenever he hears the steam mop pump). Also, I hope it''s a really durable pump. I don''t want it to wear out in a short period of time, because I REALLY like this steam mop.

Anyway, that''s all I can think of right now, but I''ll update this as more things become apparent, especially regarding the durability of this machine.

I LOVE my Haan steam mop! It seems to be of very high quality. Surprisingly, the cord is heavier than my Dyson vacuum, or any other appliance of this type. The pads are nice & thick and are sure to hold up well.

I was most impressed when I cleaned one of my vinyl bathroom floors. It''s had a deep stain on it since it was installed. I''d tried Clorox Clean-up and every other product I thought might work, to no avail. With just ONE short use, most of the stain is gone! I''m sure a second cleaning will remove it entirely.

You still have to sweep the floor as the Haan steams, and doesn''t pick up debris.

It heats up in just 30 seconds (rather than the 3 minutes they say) and comes with pad to place under it while it''s heating. One very little tank of water did my kitchen, both bathroom floors and my tiled entryway, with some left over. So buying distilled water won''t be much of an expense. However, my rooms are very small.

I''m anxious to use it on my braided and oriental type rugs, which haven''t been cleaned as I was afraid a shampooer would ruin them.

I''m 66 years old and found the Haan to be very light weight (at 4lbs) and easy to use.

Haven''t found any Cons, so far.

I certainly wouldn''t hesitate to purchase this again.

UPDATE:

I tried my Hann Steam Mop on my area rugs last evening. They came out cleaner than I imagined they would and I was very impressed. Especially on an area of my regular carpeting where the dirt was very ground in AND one of my puppies had an ''accident''. I tried everything to get the smell up.....several natural enzyme products, Febreeze, Spot Shot etc, and had even shampooed the carpeting several times. Now, The smell is GONE, after one use with the Haan.

Unlike using the Haan on hard flooring, when you''re steaming rugs or carpeting, you will want to go very, very slowly and go over the area a few times.

This is one of the best purchases I have made in many a year!

Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water Dispenser

Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water DispenserThis is my first Haier product. I''ve had this for a couple weeks and it has been working great. When you first turn the cold water switch on, it takes about 10-15 mins to get cold, but if you leave it on it''s cold all the time. Same with the hot water, it takes about 5 minutes or so to heat up.

One problem i''ve noticed (minus the one star) is that when you have both hot and cold water switches on, both the hot water and cold water compete for ready access. This is not a big deal, so I usually just leave one switch on a time (usually cold since it gets the majority usage).

As far as heating and cooling quality, when it''s hot, it''s SUPER hot. When it gets cold, it''s cold enough to condensate your glass, but not ice cold still refreshing!

UPDATE: Here''s something else I wanted to add. Unlike other water coolers, this one does not run constantly cold or hot. If you have the cold switch on, it will keep recooling the water in cycles (you''ll see the cold water light go on every 20-30 mins or after use). Same with hot water. If you have the switch on, it will reheat the water in cycles (every 20-30 mins or after use). Another minor annoyance (-.5 stars), but again, it''s tolerable.

Updated rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

I was attracted to this unit because it includes separate power switches to turn off the hot and/or cold water when you want to. I like hot water on the red tap, and room temperature water on the blue tap, and it''s actually very hard to find that combination of features.

Unfortunately, the water that comes out tastes like burnt plastic. I called manufacturer, who suggested soaking the inside of the unit with solution of baking soda (1 Tbsp), vinegar (1 Tbsp), and water (1 Gal), but this did not fix the problem.

One other note: Having tried out a few water dispenser units recently, I can say without a doubt that this one has the most annoying child safety device on the hot water tap. As a result, the hot water tap is awkward to use.

Manufacturer offered to send a replacement but it would take three weeks to arrive. Since we had already waited two weeks for delivery of the original unit, I decided to return the product for a refund instead.

The Amazon.com return page said I would have to pay return shipping, but I called Amazon and they sent me a free return shipping label.

In sum: the product quality was lousy but the customer service from the manufacturer was pretty good and from Amazon was outstanding.

I bought this unit when I was moved to the bungalows at my school and wanted a way to have hot water for instant coffee and cold water for the many days when our room a/c is broken. For the three months that I''ve had it so far, it''s been great. I like the fact that I can turn the power off on the unit for evenings or weekends (just adds good peace of mind), and switch it on in the mornings for quick hot water and refreshing cold water throughout the day. I use 3-gallon home delivery bottles that I take to and from school without problem and these, combined with the countertop nature of this dispenser, make this just too convenient for me NOT to have!

We''ve only had the dispenser for about a month now, so I don''t know how valuable my opinion really is. Nevertheless, no problems thus far. The design is slightly confusing, not in respect to putting the base together, that was pretty straightforward, took only 15-20 minutes. But the base is made out of thin plastic panels, on which you place the 25-30 pound water filter machine, and then on top of that goes the 5 gallon jug of water. Honestly, I''m amazed the whole thing hasn''t collapsed. But there it is, with no visible signs of the dispenser falling over anytime soon. There was a bizarre, chlorine like odor in the kitchen the fist week we turned the machine on, but no one''s gotten sick from the water. -UPDATE: the dispenser lasted from 2007 to 2012. That''s five years without one problem with it. Not a bad deal for the price.

We recently discontinued our bottled water service at work to save some money. So the four employees that are in the office on a daily basis chipped in to buy our own unit (and refill our 5-gal jug at home). I did a lot of reviewing on Amazon and other sites. This unit stood out as the best deal. After some easy assembly and start-up, we are all extremely pleased with it (one month later). It''s great having on/off switches for both hot and cold water. We can turn the unit off on the weekends to save power. We did have a slight leak in the cold water spigot. But after popping the lever with it''s own spring action, it re-seated and has worked fine since. Something to keep an eye on. Very happy overall.

Jura 13531 Impressa C5 Fully Automatic Coffee Center Save $0.01 Off

Jura 13531 Impressa C5 Fully Automatic Coffee Center, Piano BlackPurchased this machine about three months ago and have been totally pleased with it. Owned a C 1000 and upgraded with the frothXpress PLUS as well.... Easy to program, easy to use and easy to clean. I have been through two cycles of cleaning with the tablets and the cleaning took about half the time the C 1000 took... It uses special Cearly Blue filters.. no discounts on these. They are a standard price and you replace them with every cleaning so there is a little expense with this.

The frothXpress is great and I use it only when I am making a few cappucinos. It comes completely apart and cleans easily.

All in all, I could not be happier. The only thing that coul be better are the initial directions on how to use the machine. Having owned the other one, this one was easier to maneuver. The directions for the frothXpress PLUS are almost non-existent but I found some directions online which helped.

It is a hefty price for a machine but I value good coffee. You will not be disappointed.

This machine was on my wishlist for a long time, but I couldn''t bring myself to drop close to a $1000 on a coffee machine. One day we realized we had alot of AMEX points and could convert them to use on Amazon... voila! 3 days later the machine was sitting on our kitchen counter. It did take a bit of time to setup and get the hang of how to use the frother but once you do the coffee gods will smile down on you.

I held back posting a review until now. Last week the filter needed to be replaced and I ordered the wrong one (it''s not the white filter that shows up as a bundled item with the tablets btw) so we''ve not been able to use the machine for the past week. We went back to using our old Tassimo single cup maker which I used to think brewed a pretty good cup of coffee. After drinking espressos, lattes and regular coffee from the Jura for the past 3 months I''m afraid I''ve been completely spoiled for anything else. This machine has now become an integral part of our daily routine...need to make sure I don''t run out of the filters again!

If you''re thinking about purchasing this machine all I can say is "do it, just do it".

Jura is absolutely the best home automatic cafe machine. I have been drinking coffee made with European coffee machines since the 80''s. Because of heavy use my espresso machines lasted about a year. Then while I was living in Europe I found Jura. I had a Jura fully automatic machine for three years in Europe. It was in perfect condition when I left. The lucky recipient of that machine, came back to the USA a year later.... and right away they bought a Jura for their home.

My FIRST purchase for my home after I repatriated. > I bought the C5, I just love it. It ALWAYS works with zero problems. I stagger downstairs every morning... push button and Wa-La... a perfect cup off coffee for which the beans have just been solely ground for pours forth....

I have owned every brand out there and I am SOLD on JURA! DEPENDABILITY!!!

I have purchase the new Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 before it had been released. So I had to wait for several weeks for its delivery. Once it arrived it took a good couple of hours to read through the manual, (the machine operation is not intuitive). It had all kinds of warnings for grinding: no oily beans, no flavored beans, and so on. (You could grind such beans in separate grinder and use it in the grinded beans compartment. I have not tried this yet). So, I have followed the instructions closely, and for about 5 to 7 days it worked fine. However, one morning, after the first cup of coffee I made, I could not make a second one. (There was no coffee coming out of the spouts). I try different approaches to solve the issue myself, however eventually called the company. The representative had walked me through some steps, basically squandering more and more of my good beans, but was not able to solve the problem. To his credit, once he realized he can not resolve the issue he offered to replace the body of the machine. The way it worked; the company has sent the new body and a label to send the old one back. (I had to remove all the removable parts: water tank, spout for cappuccino, and such) It took about a week for a new one to arrive. On arrival, I have noticed that the spout on the new one did not feet as well as on the old one, but I did tried to froth the milk yet. (I hope it works)

As far as quality of the coffee it makes, it is not bad; it is still not a commercial quality, but the machine makes a creama that is somewhat resembling of a good European café coffee. I have tried several different kinds of beans and came to the conclusion that quality of beans make a bigger difference than the machine itself. (I tried the good beans in the cheap espresso machine and the coffee was almost as good). The best beans I found were at the "Whole Foods" store.

Overall, I think it is way overpriced, and I would not purchase it again.

Want Jura 13531 Impressa C5 Fully Automatic Coffee Center Discount?

After 2 months reading reviews and researching online the best coffe maker to buy I decided to try the Jura C5. I read some reviews as the coffee maker wasn''t good preparing hot hot hot espressos I guess this people is crazy and lazy. You have to read the manual before use it if you want hotter coffee just pre warming the cup with the hot water feature, this it takes around 5s... but I''ve never needed to do that and my coffee always as hot as a Starbucks espresso.

I bought this machine to make lattes. I loved it. It''s easy and I can prepare the same cafe mocha that I usually got in a Starbucks. I bought cafe mocha powder and a chocolate syrup from Ghirardelli website and after some cups I know how many spoons and pumps I have to use it...

You can changing the cup size and customized to your personal cup size to keep easier your daily coffee preparation.

My metal tray came with some scratches on I called the customer service and promptly they send me a new one by mailing.

As many people said the cleaning tablets are overprice but you can prepare many cups before replace it: If you brew 10 cups a day you need about one tablet every three weeks and one Clearyl Blue Cartridge per month. The machine indicates when you have to change both.

I am really satisfied with my coffee maker!!!!!

  • Easy to install using household common tools

As another reviewer noted it is a bit of a struggle to change the cartridge but that has a lot to do with where the unit is mounted. I have two of these units, one was already installed in a house I bought and I had the other installed in a condo. The one in the house is at the back of the cabinet under the sink and it is a bear to change. The other I had put up front and it''s not bad at all. For one thing you must follow the instructions to the letter when changing the cartridge. If you do, it won''t be hard and it won''t leak. There is a little stick-on alarm device that tells you when to change the cartridge. Throw that away, it''s purpose is to sell more cartridges. The cartridge needs replacing when the flow gets slow. Mine last a year or more (2 people). Also, ask you plumber which system he or she recommends. Mine thinks highly of Everpure.

Explore alternatives before buying this system. Although the cartridge lasts longer than others, it is very difficult for a person to replace, especially a woman or older man. The company makes it sound so easy, just insert and turn 1/4. You don''t know you have it in right until you turn it on and then after 30 seconds of water running, it falls off and water is all over the cabinet. It''s inexpensive compared to a whole house system, but I wish I had a whole house system instead of fighting with the cartridge when I need to replace it. Once in place, the filter does do an excellent job of removing bad water taste. If you''re a handyman and able to maneuver under sinks, this will serve you fine. I am very frustrated at how hard this filter is to insert exactly right. It''s not easy doing it by yourself and your neck and arms will ache from trying to get it in.

First off, I may be a bit biased because we owned a 5 stage reverse osmo system prior to this. But I purchased this for its easy and simplicity. But when I installed it I was really disappointed with the water quality. The taste was really bad. Over time the taste has gotten more tolerable, but as soon as this filter slows down, and needs to be replaced? I''m going back to the Premier reverse 5 stage system sold from Costco. I would not recommend this to anyone who care how there water tastes.

Sorry I really don''t like making bad reviews. But this thing isn''t a good filtration system.

UpDate 1/29/11

This filter is really bad. I''m finally having to change it out and trash the entire system. For people who have this system try and fill a dish of water and let it sit over night. Ours would develop a chemical film on the surface. We wash and cook rice with the filtered water. Lately the rice we cook with the filtered water developed a really bad rotting odor, after a few hours. My wife was thinking it was the rice cooker? But I suggested that she try and cook some using the bottled water. (She did) the rice was absolutely perfect.

I don''t know what this filter is filtering but it appears to be making the water quality worse.

This unit was a complete waste of money! Didn''t even last a year! Terrible filter!

I''m off to CostCo to purchase the new Watts Premier 4RO system.

Want Everpure EV9270-76 H-300 Drinking Water System Discount?

Since bottled drinking water 1) costs about 10.00 a gallon if you factor in the environmental costs.and 2) is mostly manufactured by soft drink companies???? I took the plunge and had this unit installed. I did read reviews and made sure the unit was put toward the front of my kitchen cabinet for easy replacement changes. But I am a woman and have had no issues with it at all. Great tasting water...at a low environmental impact.

The unit works fine but it a devil to install if you don''t like squatting or bending over and sitting in an awkward position while attempting to install the cartridge. I didn''t pull the lever down completely to turn the water off for installation and I had water gushing all over my kitchen. If you do it properly, it is over in a jiffy. I have a water softener system which causes the Everpure to be used up much more quickly, so that is a problem too. I''m replacing this cartridge after just four months of use with two people.

PUR Advanced Plus Horizontal Faucet Water Filter (Silver Matte) Save 30% Off

PUR Advanced Plus Horizontal Faucet Water Filter
  • Reduces chemicals linked to cancer risk - TTHMs (chemical chlorine by-products) benzene, TCE, Toxaphene
  • Also reduces lead, chlorine: taste and odor only, MTBE, Mercury, Cyptosporidium, Giardia, and more
  • ASM filter life indicator
  • Soft touch handle with non-slip surface
  • Easy to install

I have been using various Pur faucet filters through at least 5 units now. Originally the plastic rotate units, then 2 stainless in a row as I moved each time I''d just buy a new one leave the old behind. They are great.....

EXCEPT that the case tends to crack nearest the faucet hookup. This is particularly quick to happen on the units that rotate. But it has also happened to me with the stainless steel unit just happened to me on a SECOND stainless now.

ALSO the screw-on cap in front is a PAIN to remove. It''s round and smooth and hard to find any grip on it when it''s screwed in tight. They really should put a couple of flat edges to give your fingers somewhere to grab. Installing is difficult as well getting that last bit of turn-down to get it flush.

I keep coming back to Pur though even with these defects they are a great value.

PUR Water Filter Review \ Hack

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called ''planned obsolescence'' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn''t used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called ''timed death'' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking ''no'' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You''ve cheated no one. P&G''s cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You''re done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You''ll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn''t be without them. It''s P&G''s customer abuse that''s not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

Like other reviewers, I have been a Pur filter user for years, but lately the units haven''t been lasting more than a few months at a time. I stuck with Pur because of a lack of other options out there similar to Pur. Lately, the units crack or leak or both--definitely not worth the cost. I tried this new design, and so far I''m pleased. It has a cheaper look, though--the ''brushed chrome'' in no way matches my faucet like an old model did. I was alarmed at first with the cheap construction, but the easy installation and quick release has me sold. If the unit breaks within a few months, I''ll write back about Pur and then buy a different brand. So far, so good.

UPDATE: PUR filter fell off after a week or so. The plastic screw-on ring warps because of the weight of the filter. I contacted PUR, they send another ring attachment. It warped in a matter of days. I called them again, got another ring, and it warped in a matter of days. It keeps falling off the faucet. Horrible design flaw! I''ve gone to Culligan filters--very simple, less can go wrong.

This is my third Pur Ultimate faucet filter. All three leak at the faucet connection after about 6 months of useunacceptible. I had them installed by different plumbers, so it''s not an installation error. Guess I''ll go back to the filter-pitcher, because at $60 for this filter, they can''t figure out how to make them last.

EcoAqua EFF-6007A Refrigerator Water Filter

EcoAqua EFF-6007A Refrigerator Water FilterA lot of comments about this filter costing less than other brands. Remember one thing though. AT LEAST ON THE ONES THAT I''VE USED, while the OEM filters are made in U.S.A., this filter is made in China. I''m not going to comment any further, because YOU will be drinking the water out of the filters you buy, not me.

I too wanted to save some money. But, I guess in this case you get what you pay for! Never have had any trouble with my Maytag Wide-by-Side water filtration system before. Changed filter whenever the indicate light came on. First time I used this filter I had trouble immediately. As recommended I filled several glasses and discarded. Seemed fine. But, after about the 8th glass the water stream got smaller and smaller and by the end of the day nothing. We removed the filter, reinserted it and nothing! Tried another new filter same thing happened. Now I will head off to Home Depot to buy a $40 filter that hopefully will work unless this PIECE OF GARBAGE has damaged the system!

Prodyne Fruit Infusion 93-Ounce Natural Fruit Flavor Pitcher Save 20% Off

Prodyne Fruit Infusion 93-Ounce Natural Fruit Flavor PitcherI first saw this pitcher when I was looking for the same thing but with an ice core instead of the infusion core (which just happens to be made by the same company). I thought it was a great concept; and since I''m always looking for ways to add more water to my diet (without having to drink plain old ordinary water), I decided to give it a try. I was immediately hooked!

Here are a couple of things that I''ve observed:

Distilled water works best.

Depending upon what type of fruit you use in the core, it can take up to two days (or more) to get a really good infusion. Citrus fruits tend to take longer to infuse than berries.

It''s a good idea to add water to it each time you pour yourself a glass. Two reasons: first, the newly added water will mix with the already-infused water and will take less time to become flavored. If you wait until the pitcher''s mostly empty, it''ll take a while to get a good infusion. Second, a smaller amount of "new" water will take less time to chill than if you were to add a whole bunch of new water.

And here''s a hint: If you make your own lemonade (from scratch), try using orange-infused water to your lemon juice instead of plain, unflavored water. It adds a wonderful touch of "something" that you can''t put your finger on (you KNOW there''s something else in the lemonade, but you just can''t figure out WHAT).

And, lastly, a suggestion: don''t wait for berries to come into season! Just use frozen ones (strawberries, raspberries, mixed berries, etc.) Because they''ve been frozen, they tend to infuse better than fresh ones. I recently used half a package of frozen raspberries. As they thawed they immediately began to turn the water red and by the time they were completely thawed, I had a lovely shade of red raspberry water. Being a "sweetaholic", I add a packet of stevia (AKA Truvia, but I prefer the Whole Foods brand of stevia) to my raspberry water and it tastes like a healthier version of raspberry Kool-Aid!

Let me start off by saying that I have never reviewed on amazon before, but felt compelled after buying this pitcher. I treat every item I own very delicately (I am a very poor grad student) and yet over time this pitcher (which looks much cheaper in person than in the photo) started to develop spider web cracks all along the bottom. Normally I would let this slide, the functionality is present, but when you spend $20 dollars on a pitcher you would hope it would hold up more than a few weeks. Lastly I originally bought this pitcher on amazon, but have since seen it at marshalls for $7.99.

I got this beautiful pitcher to encourage me to drink more water. It works! I fill this pitcher each evening with tap water and put it in the refrigerator, and by next morning I have tasty, subtly fruity, cool water ready to drink. I then leave it out on the counter during the day, to enjoy the eye candy, and to remind me to drink it. The fruit doesn''t have to be changed every day. The instructions say up to a week is okay. I change it every for to five days because I leave it out during the day. So easy to change the fruit, too. Cleaning the pitcher is a breeze. There are no tiny spaces to trap food residue, it is just a pristine clear pitcher to show off your clear water and pretty fruit. I got one for my sister, too, and she loves it. Best of all, the water is great, and so "green". No plastic bottles to recycle, no filters to change and throw away. Just delicious water to enjoy.

This pitcher is just perfect! I filled it up with oranges the first time (peel off please) and let it sit overnight (it needs it) and had a delightful drink the next morning. Pineapple (fresh or canned) is my favorite next to cucumber. The fruit stays fresh 5 to 7 days. No need for Soba or other bottled, flavored waters.

Gaggia 12500 Baby Twin Espresso Machine Save 28% Off

Gaggia 12500 Baby Twin Espresso Machine with Dual Heating System, Stainless SteelBaby Gaggia Twin

I am on my third Baby Gaggia Twin since February and the third one does seem to be the charm. The first machine had an impotent steamer and was sent back, the second, the steam wand came off entirely. I did notice that happened to another reviewer but went with this machine as it was in my price range and I felt lucky.

The first one was purchased through Essential Espresso (avoid at all costs) who when I called to address the problem were very "We don''t want to hear it, talk to the manufacturer" even though their site boasts a 30 day no hassle return. I wish I read the reviews on them before purchase. I won''t go into every detail but dealing with them was so unpleasant and they took so long to do anything that I decided that I would get my replacement from BBandBeyond, where I learned they would price-match even with a 300 dollar difference and free shipping!!

So, BBandBeyond gave me a truly hassle free exchange for the second machine and it''s faulty steam wand and now I am reasonably happy with the machine. The customer service there is among the best I have experienced.

The steamer takes a little getting used to. You need to purge it of water till the lights flash, turn it off and then back on again, keeping the wand out of your milk until it is up to "full steam" then turn it off again and put it in your milk pitcher. It sounds more painful than it is and all happens in about a minute and change.

Pros: Looks great, seems sturdy, is easy to use and clean, heats up quickly, makes very good espresso

The steamer takes a little getting used to. It sounds more painful than it is and all happens in about a minute and change.

Cons: There is a smell from the steam wand, it gets less over time and I am told that running descaler through it will eliminate it. (Why couldn''t they do that?) The group head is configured in such a way that you cannot really fill the portafilter full of coffee and have to leave a bit of room at the top. This is a slight bummer for me as I like my morning coffee a nice long pull and with our former machine could get enough coffee for 2 such pulls at one time for both me and the hubby. True, it is no Greek tragedy to pull 2 shots but just not as convenient. If you are pulling for one, there is no problem.

However, Gaggia itself and its U.S. representative, are lacking in customer service in my opinion.

After receiving my third machine, I sent an email asking about a pressurized portafilter for the machine. I also added that it would be nice of them to offer some discount on same taking into to consideration the inconvenience I had been through having 2 defective machines.

Both Importika in the U.S. and Gaggia in Italy totally ignored this. I would not buy from them again for that reason. To me, it would be a no brainer to comp a relatively inexpensive item to compensate for the inconvenience and leave the customer feeling that you value their business and regret the inconvenience. They obviously don''t.

It does take away some of the enjoyment of owning it

UPDATE

I no longer own this machine, it started leaking around the grouphead and after replacing the gasket and the filter basket to no avail, I returned it and went with another model. Various forums have given consistently good reviews to the Classic which is not a "snazzy" looking or programmable to your preferred size of shot. So far I am happy with it. You can tell right away that the steamer is better the crema is a litle thicker (probably because whatever was causing the leaking was not providing the proper pressure for "expression" of flavor. We decided to get a grinder also as this machine likes a finer grind than I can get in some places. After a few weeks, I will write a separate review for it but after 3 Baby Twins in 5 months, I can not recommend them from anything but a decorative standpoint.

This is a great espresso machine for home use if you are an espresso lover. However, avoid this machine if you want to make latte or cappuccino. I have had this machine for more than a month now and I have been using it relatively frequently. The foamer works great but the foam always comes out smelly. (like plastic or rubber smell). This problem was also addressed in another review on Amazon.

Overall, Gaggia Baby twin is a very aesthetically pleasing and durable espresso maker. It''s very well made and it will last you a life time. However I would avoid this machine just for the fact that you can''t make good latte or cappuccino with it.

Update: 1/27/2012

I owned this machine for more than 3 years now and it has been very disappointing. The milk frother broker after 6 months of use. I took the machine to a designated repair center and the center held it for almost a year because they were waiting for Gaggia to ship the necessary parts from Italy. (Worst product experience EVER) I finally requested the repair center to return my machine (still broken) so I can at least use it for just espresso. Now the electric touch pad is broken and the dumb thing is just sitting on my counter-top as a reminder of how crappy Gaggia products are.

Gaggia: Please refund my money!

i love the espresso this machine puts out but the entire machine is somewhat tainted for me given that the steamer has always smelled and made milk and water taste very very strongly of some kind of oil. at least there are separate espresso and steamer boilers. seriously, think motor oil or bicycle chain oil. ick, it is hard to get the taste and smell of my first few attempts at foaming out of my mouth and nose. i called the company and they suggested a descaling agent which did help, but still for the price for goodness sake it would be nice to have that taken care of at the factory.

I needed upgrade for my cheap Gaggia Pure and I needed to pick from this model and Gaggia Baby Class D. Sorry to say I bought Twin. 99% of coffees in our house is a cappuccino and I thought additional dedicated thermo-unit would make our living easier and save us some "waiting for a steam" time. I was stupid...

The point is that though there is second "boiler" indeed it is too weak to make proper milk froth for two cappuccinos in 650 ml jug (one portion of milk in 350 ml jug is okay). It''s power isn''t enough to whirl the milk which is absolutely needed to "stretch" the milk. Of course, you can use so called "turbo-frother",the default panarello tip but you will get only that poor bubbly parody instead of pro-like froth.

With any other Gaggia, Baby Class e.g., you could do it with it''s single boiler but having your top line Baby Twin you would not.

Cons: pathetic, impotent steamer

Want Gaggia 12500 Baby Twin Espresso Machine Discount?

The Gaggia is a competent, well-made machine. It makes an excellent espresso. The dual heater system works very well. There''s no hint of foreign taste/smell from the frothing wand in our unit -something other reviewers have reported.

Things I like:

-It makes an excellent espresso.

-The dose system works well, though it occasionally dispenses an extra 10-20% volume. It''s nice not to have to vigilantly watch after you start a pull.

-The dual heaters works very well. If you use the frothing wand regularly, you''ll appreciate the machine''s ability to consistently deliver two temperatures simultaneously (alternately, actually).

-The frothing wand works very well with regular, skim, even soy milk. The swivel functionality is excellent.

-The boiler heats water faster than I can pull espresso shots.

-The drip tray is easy to service.

-The unit looks great.

Things I don''t like so much:

-Price. For the money, I think the Gaggia Baby Classic delivers more bang for the buck than the Baby Twin. The dual heater and dose system are nice, but don''t justify a 50% price increase. On the other hand, if you regularly make cappuccinos for twelve people at a time, the Baby Twin is worth every penny.

-The water tank isn''t big enough, and maddeningly, Gaggia drills the overflow hole nearly an inch lower than it needs to be.

-When first turned on, the ''water heater'' indicator on the front panel indicates it''s ready to go after only a couple of minutes. It''s not. The water''s hot, but the brew-head isn''t and you''ll end up with a luke-warm espresso. You need to wait the 6-10 minutes that Gaggia suggests. They ought to change the indicator to reflect both the water and head temperatures.

-Gaggia should knurl the compression ring on the frothing wand (it''s smooth). The wand does tend to come loose if you don''t tighten the ring thoroughly. I can develop the finger pressure to do it; my wife cannot. A rubber pad helps. Knurling would be better. Gaggia ought to fix it.

-The Baby Twin uses capacitive switches for the four selector buttons, and they''re too sensitive, in my opinion. They tend to trigger when my finger is still an 1/4" away, which leads to occasionally "pushing" the wrong button (not that big a deal -a second push cancels the operation).

-The frothing wand leaks a few drops of water now and then.

My wife and I are not espresso purists, but we enjoy a good espresso. We used a Capresso Ultima (also from Amazon) for nearly a decade. It had its own foibles (difficult to clean well), but frankly, it''s crema was superior to what we can achieve with the Gaggia. The Gaggia leaves me with the impression that it can make a really, really great espresso if I''m willing to invest the time and effort in perfecting my barista skills. Like Ferrari, Gaggia seems to be all about performance, and there''s nothing wrong with that. We just want a good espresso without too much fuss.

MultiPure MP1200EL NEWEST MODEL Capacity-Metered Under-Sink Water Filter Save 3% Off

MultiPure MP1200EL NEWEST MODEL Capacity-Metered Under-Sink Water Filter - Includes Capacity-Metered FaucetIt''s only been a little over a month since I''ve been using it. So far, my wife and I are definitely extremely-happy with it. Living where we do in Japan, tap water is drinkable and is not bad taste wise but at times smells a little too much for us. It took us a while to decide on which filter system to get but after research decided on the Multi-Pure MP1200EL. After installing, we noticed immediately that there was no smell and the water tasted even better than before.

Installation was real easy! It took me less than two hours to install. The most difficult part for me was drilling the hole in the sink counter for the faucet to fit in. The thread attachments fit with no problem. I was expecting a difference in metric and inch threads but apparently is universal. Also, the kit came with thread seal tape so no need to go out and buy.

Even though we thought it was pricey, we feel it was well worth it.

We recently had our new marble floors and granite sealed. The company that sealed the marble floors and granite countertops suggested that we use Tekon Repellent Cleaner as a floor/granite cleaner. It''s great; maintains shine with no streaks. Just make sure to dilute the product with water as it has a tendency to make the floor too slippery. Other than that, the product has multiple uses.
