DeLonghi ECAM23210B Compact Magnifica S Beverage Center Save 39% Off

DeLonghi ECAM23210B Compact Magnifica S Beverage Center, BlackMachine worked fantastic for about 8 months until the frother would no longer work. A call to Delonghi support (Oct ''11) resulted in a seven day wait for box to ship the unit to a repair facility (Nov ''11). That facility determined within a week it needed a new frother, but Delonghi took two months and never supplied the part the repairer. After 2.5 months (Jan ''12) of waiting I again called Delonghi and asked that they just send me a replacement unit so that I didn''t have to keep waiting. Ten days later, a replacement (refirb) unit showed up only to arrive broken (this time leaking water into the grounds tray). Initial calls to Delonghi were met with scripted "you''ll need to send us the unit and wait for our evaluation..." rather than them just shipping me out a replacement immediately and my returning the defective one. Sigh. Such an excellent product when it is working. Customer service just doesn''t think a $800+ product deserves better care. Delonghi should study Apple to learn how good customer service builds a strong brand.

I spent a LOT of time looking at the different sites for expresso machines. Most suggested staying away from the super automatics. I dont doubt that you can make an even finer cup of coffee if you have full control and spend the time to do it, but for those of us that want to grab a cup in the AM before heading out the door, this machine does a really nice job. I had a manual machine once in the past but never spent the time with it, plus it took 5 mins of prep work and cleanup was drag, I ended up giving it away. Yes it made great coffee, but it ended up sitting on a shelf next to the ice cream maker (never buy one of those :-)). This is a much better device for me.

The Compact Magnifica (23210) works great out of the box. The machine comes with a coupon for a tap water filter, but they really should have included it for those that want to use tap water and live in hard water cities. If you have filtered water at your place (or use a brita etc) this will not affect you. Within a half hour you will be churning out really nice drinks. The frother works well with 1% milk. Consider grabbing this:Krups XS5020 20-Ounce Stainless-Steel Milk Frothing Pitcher. It works nicely in concert. After running perhaps 3-4 cups through the 23210, the quality of the coffee levels off and is excellent (dont panic the first cup might be weak or bitter as the beans cycle through). Assuming you buy decent coffee (I used HEBs brand), you will have relatively quick cuppuccino, easy coffee and strong and tasty expresso in a few minutes. I find the cup warmer to be useless and I did need to ramp up to the hottest setting for the coffee to be the right temp, but otherwise the 23210 was tuned perfectly with preset factory settings. Cleanup is a breeze the frother is insulated in plastic so the wand is MUCH easier to clean than the non insulated wands on many machines. The tank is plenty big enough for AT LEAST 10 drinks (even if you use some steamed milk a few times). The footprint of the unit is nice and it wont hog space.

Overall, Im quite happy with the quality and build while plasticy, it doesnt seem cheap, it has a more euro look to it than the picture indicates I feel. If you are looking for a nice automatic and you are willing to make the trade off to spend quite a bit more, and perhaps lose a bit of artisinal control, youll definitely be rewarded by purchasing this. I was worried the coffee would taste like Keurig or the other quick makers this is MATERIALLY better coffee. If you can afford it, treat yourself, this maker wont disappoint. I especially recommend for parents who have little free time and busy professionals who dont want to spend time cleaning. This is a good machine. I have no idea what MORE Id want from a machine, assuming it continues to work, I dont see why a person would need a larger machine.

Update: I''ve had it a few months now and I''ve got a routine I now use so I thought I''d share. I set the bean strength to the highest setting and the water to the middle size and I make a double shot each time. That seems to be the flavor/size balance that works best for me. The reviews that suggest using a dry, European roast like illy over an oily dark roast like Starbucks are probably correct. I''ve been using lavazza which is well priced via amazon. Illy is fantastic but very $$$ and frankly I don''t notice the difference. Anyways after 5 months I''m still really digging this machine.Lavazza Super Crema Espresso Whole Bean Coffee, 2.2-Pound Bag

One thing about this machine is that it makes great coffee. Great design that will fit most kitchen areas. Just decalcified the machine for the first time, also my first and it took about 40 min.. The directions in the manual were slightly different than how the machine prompted me but I followed the machines direction and all went well. I highly recommend this type of coffee maker, because of verity of coffee making choices, ease of use, and of course taste. I drink at least 4 cups a day.

I would buy this type of machine again.

I studied different machines until I was dizzy. The only requirement: It was important to me to have a machine that loaded water from front. When you look at the dimensions, it is not much smaller than others. The product weighs a ton already, and I am happy it is not stainless.. It is reasonably as quiet as a coffee grinder could be and makes beautiful espresso consistently.. The DVD instructions are... well.. instructive.

To decide, ask yourself this question: If you were a smoker would you roll your own cigarettes, or buy a pack to smoke. That is the difference between a manual/semi automatic vs a superautomatic like this one.

You add one feature and the other and then you say do I really need all this?

Set expectations. It comes down to budget, ease of use, and space requirements.

The fact is that it was cyber Monday, I was going to buy a perfecta at a bargain price, the seller ran out, and gave me the compact which was more expensive for half the price. There is concern out there that super automatics in general break easily if you use hard water and don''t change the filter. If it works for two years for me, I will be happy. If it breaks, we will be coffee addicts and buy a semi automatic to experiment with our addictive urges.

My smart busy wife pushes one button. She is happy, the whole family is happy.

The product came with a year of free coffee from Illy that was not posted on the merchant''s web site ($140 value) :)

I''ve had the compact Magnifica S for about a week now and have a good sense of what the machine delivers.

Pros:

Literal push-button automation/automagical coffee. Spend 15 minutes watching the video and reading the manual and you will have complete control of the machine.

Lovely frothing. As a cappuccino lover, good foam was at the top of my wish list. I won''t be making latte art any time soon, so I can''t speak to "pourability" of the foam. But for my milk-first, then espresso builds, it is ideal.

Really compact footprint. The unit takes up half the space of my old Krups duo.

Access to moving parts. It''s very easy to get to the bean hopper, water tank, bypass chute, etc.

Cons:

General superauto price point. I love the indulgence of the machine and got it as a Gold Box deal. It will take 100s of cups before I hit my value/price happy place.

Non-oily beans. I have to step away from my beloved dark-roast Peet''s in search of non-oily beans that won''t clog up the hopper. It takes away a bit from the flavor profile I love. But I''m experimenting with medium roast beans on the strongest setting and adjusting the grind.

Bypass chute. It only accepts one serving''s worth of ground beans at a time. Just a little extra effort to make a couple of cups of evening decaf.

Overall, "Maggi" and I have a good working relationship and I''m really enjoying the quality and ease of the coffee she produces. Sometimes I miss the more manual experience, but overall, this machine gives you the ease of a Keurig-style push-button set-up, but delivers a really good cuppa.

Premier Zero Waste Reverse Osmosis System

Premier Zero Waste Reverse Osmosis System(not Available for Shipment to the State of California)This system produces a good amount of very clean sediment-, mineraland chlorine-free water with fresh filters, quality is close to distilled water. At full pressure, you can get nearly 2 gallons from the tap in about 5 minutes. Run continuously (once the tank empties) ours squeezes out about a gallon per hour after that. With moderate use and a relatively clean supply, the carbon block and sediment filters will easily last a year. We use it for all beverages in our household of 4, including about 40 gallons per month for homebrewing. I haven''t replaced the RO membrane in ours after 4 years, but will probably do so at the next filter change. So it''s a pretty good value compared to buying bottled or spring water.

However, keep in mind that because it is "zero waste," the waste water will be pumped back into your house supply. This is great if you run the system and then run the clothes or dishwasher, but if you''ve emptied the tank on the RO and need hot water from your kitchen sink or bathroom shower, you''ll get cold water first, then lukewarm after that. Likewise, your cold tap will give you warm water until all that waste water gets run through. This can be annoying.

Second, though you are saving water by reusing the filter byproduct, a water pump is a mandatory part of this system. It remains plugged in to a wall socket at all times to maintain positive pressure on the system, and under full load, you can hear it running it isn''t loud, but it can be noticeable. You also have a substantial ghost load on your house electricity; the external power supply at the socket gets warm and stays warm, as does the pump itself when it''s running. So you''re basically saving a resource at the expense of a continuous energy drain.

Bottom line, nice product if you value super-clean water for your family or hobbies, but there are some trade-offs.

I had the first Watts system and at the end of its life it would waste gallons and gallons of water, literally dumping it down the drain. As soon as I saw this system, I upgraded immediately since the zero-waste concept would pay for itself very quickly in SoCal (due to the high water cost). Since it is pressurized and pumps the "waste" water back into the hot water supply (to use for washing dishes, handwashing, etc.) I hired a plumber to do the install. It added $90 to the cost and gave me peace of mind.

I was happy with the system but was ecstatic once I added the Watts mineralizer. This last addition makes all the difference in drinkability of the water.

I gave the product 4 stars. If Watts included the mineralizer in the kit and explained why it was so important from a health/taste perspective, then I would have given it a perfect 5 stars.

Buy this, but also buy the mineralizer and have it all professionally installed and you should be very happy if you are on municipal water. (I haven''t used it with well water...maybe someone else can comment on this)

Bought this to replace my 5 stage Watts Premier R/O. I actually bought it at Home Depot for $319. The old unit worked fine, but wasted a lot of water. I remodeled my kitchen, and in the process, thought I would replace my old R/O with a new one since it was quite old and needed new filters anyway. I was going to buy the same unit (even though it was slow like all R/O''s but decided on the zero waste for enviromental purposes. Boy was I wrong! This unit has less water pressure and produces about 3 glasses (maybe 24 oz.) worth of water at a time, then runs dry. I have now installed my single Culligan (US-EZ-1) filter. I Just did it today. This one stage filter is supposed to last for 3000 gallons. You can also use the stage 3 or 4 with the housing that came with it, just put in a different filter. The water looks clear (but it was pretty clear coming out of tap) and taste much better than tap water in Las Vegas. Also, water flows continuously and pours at about 3 times the rate of the R/O. I am loving it so far. I will update if things change.

Aqua-Pure AP810 Replacement Cartridge for Large Diameter Housings Save 36% Off

Aqua-Pure AP810 Replacement Cartridge for Large Diameter Housings
  • Large diameter (5 micron nominal)
  • Graded density/resin bonded
  • For standard dirt/rust removal
  • Flow Rate: 20 - 28 gpm (65.7 - 105.9 lpm)
  • Cold water only

I have been using the AP810 5 micron filters for 10 years. No trace of sediment in our system and it catches a fine clay like sludge. I can usually flush the filter out a couple times and keep using it. They do fail though if you keep doing this so I don''t push it beyond a couple rinses. Your mileage is going to vary but I get 6 months between flushes even on a a new will that had significant initial sediment. Flow will reduce a bit once the sediment creeps up to the canister to about half way, but the flow is still useable at that point. This is when I usually flush it out.

Mavea Maxtra Replacement Filter for Mavea Water Filtration Pitcher Save 28% Off

Mavea 1001122 Maxtra Replacement Filter for Mavea Water Filtration Pitcher, 3-PackSome reviewers are complaining about the timer not working properly. If you read the description for the pitcher you''ll have an answer to your question. I didn''t and ended up contacting Mavea who explained why the timer on my pitcher ticked down to 0% after only 3 weeks of use. The timer is not simply a clock like you get with the Brita filter. Theirs is a dummy clock that ticks down 2 months regardless of how often you fill it. Mavea claims their timer is more sophisticated than that. It also factors in the hardness of the water and the amount of water you put into the pitcher. My city water is hard (14) and we refill the pitcher quite a bit...even though there''s only 2 of us plus a dog in this household. I''m home all day and I drink a lot of water. The dog gets filtered water too in his bowl. :)

So that explains why the timer is not giving all of us the same information. I''d rather know my filter is nearing its usefulness than to not know and keep drinking water from it.

The extra filter keeps those nasty charcoal bits out of my water. I was constantly emptying the Brita pitcher to remove charcoal that had sunk to the bottom of the pitcher. Brita says that''s Ok, you can drink the charcoal. No thank you, I''d rather my water pitcher not look like someone has been panning for gold.

The company that makes this Mavea pitcher used to own Brita. After they sold it to Clorox they proceeded to design a better product which turned out to be this water filtration pitcher. Another improvement was to make it out of BPA-free plastic.

Even though I''ll have to buy more filters (3-packs) I''m still happy I switched to this brand.

With our use, refilling our Mavea Elemaris XL pitcher (full on top = about 2/3 full on bottom*), about 7 times per day, almost every day, we average about a filter per month, having bought and used 18 in the last 18 months. I do wish they came in a 6-pack, or more.

Our drinking water (unfiltered) tastes pretty bad. It''s quite delicious now that we use this filter. No scientific tests yet (ordering a test kit soon), just a very picky palette and infamously sensitive nose. We''re not quite sure how the "meter" measures hardness, volume, and length in use, but it lasts a reasonable amount of time for us (about a month), and we can taste the difference a few days after it gets to the 25% "line", so replacing the filter seems to come at an appropriate time. Since the meter uses three factors to determine filter "usedness", your mileage may vary.

*For more info about the Elemaris XL pitcher, please see my review posted under that product. (included because of the inherent "partnership" between the two products)

We like these filters because I have read:

they are NSF-certified (yay!)

they remove more contaminants than a Brita or PUR

they have silver-infusion to help prevent bacterial growth (we keep ours on the countertop, so this is more needed than if we kept it in the fridge)

and, they do NOT release little black carbon particles (ick!)

and, we''re happy they are recyclable. For further eco-savings, buy the three-pack (reduces carbon footprint of transportation in shipping); and, when they''re used up, keep a stock of spent filters, to reduce the carbon footprint of sending just one back at a time. Or, better yet, find a store in your area (walking distance is best, of course) that will take yours and send them to be recycled along with others'' filters.

With how great this pitcher/filter combination performs for us, it''s difficult to drink tap water without it. So, I also wish they made a travel-sized version.

I rely on reviews here at Amazon to help me make informed buying choices. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. If you voted this as helpful, I Thank You! :)

I bought this filter for my Brita Maxtra pitcher (NOT the classic cylinder Brita filter) that I purcahsed in Italy and used for one year there. Apon returning to the states, I was surprised to find out that Brita doesn''t sell the Maxtra in North America. The Mavea Maxtra filter is clearly the exact same filter. It works perfectly in the Brita Maxtra pitcher and I couldn''t be happier with the quality.

Many people seemed to be concerned about the life expectancy of the filter. This filter really does respond to the water it is filtering. For the most part I am the sole user of my Mavea & having used it for awhile I''ve learned just about how much life each filter has, even by the .25% as shown on the display. Its just something you absorb. Anyway, I took my pitcher on an extended trip to the mountains & WOW! What a difference the water made. I did not need to use the spare, which I should have needed and still had mileage on my original filter to use once I was back in the city. Once back home the filter was quickly eaten up as per usual. On a second occasion I noticed that my filter was being eaten up. I was barely using it and the life was going, going, gone. I thought, like many perhaps it was the gauge until I realized that for the past several nights, thanks to my insomnia, that I was filling up my pitcher when the water plant must have been treating the water and was getting a particularly strong stream of chlorinated/chemically treated water. We''ve all had that, when you open the tap & smell the chlorine & most of us at one time or another have taken a sip of that water before our brains register the smell & bad taste. I am happy to say that once I paid attention & stopped filling the pitcher when the water appeared to be treated that my filter went back to the life expectancy that I am used to. These two incidents make me believe that the filter is doing its job and doing it well. I think treating the each unique water source is more valuable than an overall specified length of time or volume of water filtered. My suggestion is spend some time using your pitcher, get to know the average life expectancy of your filter & then IF it seems to be getting eaten up start questioning the efficacy of the gauge (might also want to see if something has changed in your water source as well).

Just an FYI to all the people that are unaware of it... Mavea, as well as most brands of filters recommend that you do not filter more than 2 pitchers a day or within a certain amount of time between fill ups for maximum filtering. Also, the Mavea filter filters the water much faster than the different types of PUR filters that I have used (sorry, haven''t had a Brita), but according to statistics given by both manufacturers Mavea filters out less things than the PUR triple action filter or whatever their strongest pitcher filter is. Hopefully Mavea will come up with an even better & stronger filter soon. That is the reason for only 4* otherwise Mavea rocks!

Ceramic Double Undercounter Water Filter Save 20% Off

Ceramic Double Undercounter Water Filter With Doulton Ultracarb Cartridge and Flouride Removal CartridgeThis has turned out to be a great filter.

We received it in the mail with the wrong size of Doulton filter cartridge, but contacting customer service was easy and they responded and sent me a label to print to ship the wrong cartridge back to them. They sent the new cartridge priority mail and it was received quickly. But, the second cartridge was also the wrong one. It fit in the filter just fine, but it was the SuperCarb, not the UltraCarb. They gave me the option of returning that one or just keeping it and they would refund the difference in cartridge price. I went with the latter, so they refunded my account $12. Despite all this trouble, they were very nice, responded quickly, and were very accommodating.

The filter itself came with no instructions for installation. My husband was the one who installed it, so that saved me the trouble at least :) He said that the tubing needed to be cut into 3 different sized pieces, and we had some left over after that. I suppose cutting it ourselves was good because it''s hard to accommodate every under-sink configuration, so you can just cut it to suit your needs.

The reason I chose to buy this filter is because it accommodates a Doulton cartridge. This is not a Doulton-made water filter. But in my opinion, it is just as good! You can spend the extra money buying a Doulton made one or you can buy this one and fill it with Doulton cartridges. This filter also comes with an Aries Fluoride cartridge. When this one needs to be replaced, I''m going to look into buying a Doulton Fluoride cartridge instead.

I''ve done enough around the home plumbing jobs, that my past experience made me hesitant to install this filter immediately upon receiving, so it sat around 3 weeks unpacked and sitting in my dining area. When I finally got to reading the very short instructions and doing the installation, it was incredibly easy! No leaks!

  • Easy to install using household common tools

As another reviewer noted it is a bit of a struggle to change the cartridge but that has a lot to do with where the unit is mounted. I have two of these units, one was already installed in a house I bought and I had the other installed in a condo. The one in the house is at the back of the cabinet under the sink and it is a bear to change. The other I had put up front and it''s not bad at all. For one thing you must follow the instructions to the letter when changing the cartridge. If you do, it won''t be hard and it won''t leak. There is a little stick-on alarm device that tells you when to change the cartridge. Throw that away, it''s purpose is to sell more cartridges. The cartridge needs replacing when the flow gets slow. Mine last a year or more (2 people). Also, ask you plumber which system he or she recommends. Mine thinks highly of Everpure.

Buy Everpure EV9270-76 H-300 Drinking Water System Now

Explore alternatives before buying this system. Although the cartridge lasts longer than others, it is very difficult for a person to replace, especially a woman or older man. The company makes it sound so easy, just insert and turn 1/4. You don''t know you have it in right until you turn it on and then after 30 seconds of water running, it falls off and water is all over the cabinet. It''s inexpensive compared to a whole house system, but I wish I had a whole house system instead of fighting with the cartridge when I need to replace it. Once in place, the filter does do an excellent job of removing bad water taste. If you''re a handyman and able to maneuver under sinks, this will serve you fine. I am very frustrated at how hard this filter is to insert exactly right. It''s not easy doing it by yourself and your neck and arms will ache from trying to get it in.

First off, I may be a bit biased because we owned a 5 stage reverse osmo system prior to this. But I purchased this for its easy and simplicity. But when I installed it I was really disappointed with the water quality. The taste was really bad. Over time the taste has gotten more tolerable, but as soon as this filter slows down, and needs to be replaced? I''m going back to the Premier reverse 5 stage system sold from Costco. I would not recommend this to anyone who care how there water tastes.

Sorry I really don''t like making bad reviews. But this thing isn''t a good filtration system.

UpDate 1/29/11

This filter is really bad. I''m finally having to change it out and trash the entire system. For people who have this system try and fill a dish of water and let it sit over night. Ours would develop a chemical film on the surface. We wash and cook rice with the filtered water. Lately the rice we cook with the filtered water developed a really bad rotting odor, after a few hours. My wife was thinking it was the rice cooker? But I suggested that she try and cook some using the bottled water. (She did) the rice was absolutely perfect.

I don''t know what this filter is filtering but it appears to be making the water quality worse.

This unit was a complete waste of money! Didn''t even last a year! Terrible filter!

I''m off to CostCo to purchase the new Watts Premier 4RO system.

Since bottled drinking water 1) costs about 10.00 a gallon if you factor in the environmental costs.and 2) is mostly manufactured by soft drink companies???? I took the plunge and had this unit installed. I did read reviews and made sure the unit was put toward the front of my kitchen cabinet for easy replacement changes. But I am a woman and have had no issues with it at all. Great tasting water...at a low environmental impact.

The unit works fine but it a devil to install if you don''t like squatting or bending over and sitting in an awkward position while attempting to install the cartridge. I didn''t pull the lever down completely to turn the water off for installation and I had water gushing all over my kitchen. If you do it properly, it is over in a jiffy. I have a water softener system which causes the Everpure to be used up much more quickly, so that is a problem too. I''m replacing this cartridge after just four months of use with two people.

Brita Classic Water Filter Pitcher (White) Save 10% Off

Brita Classic Water Filter Pitcher, WhiteI wanted a replacement for my old Brita pitcher and I wanted something simple, without the need for fancy-shmancy batteries/electronics after all this is just a PITCHER!

This one was the one most similar to the one I had. However, unlike the one I had before, this one does not keep the lid on when there is water in the reservoir trickling through the filter. This means that you can''t use the pitcher easily while it''s refilling unless you remember to push the lid down with one hand while you pour with the other. Not doing so will result in a disastrous spill each time as the lid will slip off pouring water all over.

Not sure how/why, but the earlier version of this pitcher had a nicely designed fit that this would not happen. Had it been available, I would have purchased it.

This has worked great for me over the last several years, and I have become accustomed to the great-tasting water I get from the Brita pitcher (yes, you will be able to tell the difference!). I have begun drinking more water because it tastes better, and everyone would agree that is certainly a benefit worth my 4 stars... However, I have a (rather small) side-by-side fridge and with milk, juice, etc., etc., on the same shelf, this pitcher takes up too much room. I am currently shopping for another model of Brita filtration pitcher to replace it with a little narrower profile.

Buy Brita Classic Water Filter Pitcher (White) Now

I love the classic because it is good looking and it works well. It doesn''t leak and the top doesn''t fall off if it is put on right. Match arrow, arrow to arrow. When you pour and your fingers are on the handle it is very easy to rest your thumb on the arrows on the handle/cover, offers security and a nice method of handling the pitcher.

This is a two-stage pitcher, I use it for coffee and tea and cooking.

I use a Pur three-stage pitcher for drinking water.

For looks and handling, I think the Classic Brita has it all over the Pur but have learned to live with wanting the three-stage process for some things, wish that Brita would consider a three stage filtering system.

Aqua Rain Set of 4 Filter Elements

Aqua Rain Set of 4 Filter ElementsI purchased my original four-filter SS AquaRain gravity water purifier in 2001 and have been using it ever since to produce drinking water, using only our high quality city aquifer water as the source. Unfortunately the officials have contaminated the water with the forced addition of the poison fluoride, to render it into a forced mass medication of less than dubious value. I was told the filters may help remove the fluoride. After over 10 years use the output water was becoming cloudy, so I wanted to replace the filters. The new filters, although being 7.5" long, were 1.5" shorter than the originals but had the exact same U.S. Patent number along with "Marathen Ceramics". Two negatives to report. 1. The single-paper note enclosed said "Important! DO NOT overtighten wing nuts!!! Please read instructions before assembling filter. Broken elements are NOT COVERED by the warranty." However, there were no other instructions nor paper(s) included inside the delivery box! Although there was a 417 number listed on the note to call if "Have Questions?". I did not call. Hint: the rubber washers go INside the container UNDER the filters, not OUTside on the bottom, or all the water leaks out no mater how much you try to tighten the wing nuts wondering how tight is too tight when filter breakage occurs. 2. There is an added objectionable taste to the filtered water now, which I assume will eventually go away with continued use. I''ve produced maybe about 12 gallons so far. I''ll work with it.

These are significantly shorter than real AquaRain filter elements (about 2" or 50mm shorter) so less total surface area equals longer filtering time. The water does not taste nearly as clean either so I doubt the charcoal (if there is any) is not of the same density/quality as authentic AquaRain filter cartridges. Furthermore, the misleading advertisement along with the seller''s lack of communication makes me wonder if the elements contain biostatic silver like true AquaRain filters which would be a tremendous safety issue if tainted water were used in the filter. If the buyer is only trying to save money, like I (foolishly) did these are an okay value. If you are looking for high quality replacement elements producing safe/clean water, buy elsewhere.

We love our Aqua rain and decided to get new replacement filters for later on. It does a great job of making water taste so very good. It is even better than the in-line water filter we have installed for our kitchen sink.

This is my second set of filters in my Aqua Rain and the first set lasted two years of six gallons a day. They are still filtering fine but I wanted to have a spare on hand for when they finally do give out. The water is great and the price per gallon is ridiculously low. Whether you just want to make sure your tap water is clean or you are camping, this system is the best.Aqua Rain Set of 4 Filter Elements

Back when I first started filtering, using brita pitchers, I was on a university water system that had been grandfathered past some important water regulations. You could smell the heavy metals coming off the water. It probably wasn''t a mistake to replace those filters early and often, but now I''m on a better system and I mostly filter to remove a slight aftertaste in the water that I assume comes from treatment chemicals. The metering helps me keep track so I don''t replace too early or too late and get the full recommended life out of my filters. As a bonus, it also helps me keep better track of how much water I''m consuming.

When you first turn the water on, the meter powers on automatically, and to make things easier it temporarily turns on a green backlight to make it easier to see without stooping down. When you replace the filter, the count automatically resets for flushing and then starts the count over.

It does feel a bit cheap in construction, as another reviewer noted, but for what it''s worth, I''ve had mine for two years without any construction related issues.

Within a week or two, the water flow slowed to a trickle and would take almost 10 minutes to fill a 1 gal. humidifier tank, and we live in NYC where the water is reported to be pretty good already, and our building has extremely high water pressure. The water flow when not using the filter was also pretty slow because I think it has a flow-reducer for environmental reasons that I couldn''t see how to remove. Last, I''m not sure how accurate the meter is it jumped up to 25 gallons used in about a week, which seems high, but I wasn''t measuring.

I''m surprised DuPont made the filter housing with such a CHEAP thin plastic! They could have easily made it with a more durable plastic. For this reason I rated it a 3. I purchased this one because it has the 4 stage filter and meter displays gallons used. I just hope housing holds up and doesn''t start leaking.
