100 Hour Plus Emergency Candle Clear Mist

100 Hour Plus Emergency Candle Clear MistThis is misnamed. It is not a candle (i.e. made of wax) it is a small container of liquid fuel with a wick. It works just like the old fashioned kerosene lamps. The light output is equivalent to a candle and it does last for about 100 hours. Be sure to keep the cap on when not using it to prevent the fuel from evaporating. A great item to have on hand for power outages. Be sure to keep a lighter or a pack of matches (sealed in a plastic bag to keep them dry) right beside it in the drawer. Unlike a candle this won''t tip over and won''t drip. I recommend it.

This liquid candle works as advertised. In a black out PROPERLY PLACED IN A SAFE AREA AWAY FROM DOGS, CATS AND KIDS this liquid candle will prevent you from stumbling around and last several days. Think! You only use it when it''s dark! 12 hours at most? During a recent blackout we put one on the bathroom shelf and the light was sufficient to ,,,, well you get the idea.

We did put it out when we went to bed and in it''s place used a light stick which kinda does the job. One thing we have learned is that you can never have too many of these candles in storage. They last almost forever! And you can never have too many light sticks either.

I highly recommend these candles, especially when it''s dark! ~~LOL~~

We have several of these "candles" in our house, to use during power outages. Being fueled with liquid paraffin, they burn without smoke or odor, and the fuel won''t break down even after years of storage. The container is designed to extinguish the flame if it tips over although the base is stable enough that it would take a big smack to tip it over.

The light from these candles is bright and clear, although not as bright as a flashlight. We put one on the kitchen counter and it lights the room enough to get around safely, but not enough to read by.

Because of the risk of fire, I wouldn''t suggest using these candles in a tent or in a car (as one reviewer wanted to do). Set them safely on a table or countertop and enjoy 100 hours of non-smelly light.

I initially bought 4 of these just in-case of Emergencies. I just wanted to test them, because I wasn''t sure what type of light-giving device I wanted in my SHTF Box.

When Irene hit, I lost power for a few days and I got a chance to test them. I gave one to my parents and kept the other 3 for myself. The light was about the equivalent of a normal candle so I actually pulled the wick out to about double the original length (maybe 1/4" exposed) and it more then doubled the flame size. I know with the larger flame it won''t last the expected 100 hours, but for the amount of light these gave off it is well worth the sacrifice.

The recent snow storm devastated my area had me without power for a few days, These candles were once again a life saver. I don''t know how much less life they have with the longer flame, but the main one that has been lit thru both storms still has 2/3 of the fuel left. I recently ordered 12 more candles, so I could re-stock my Emergency kit. These are a MUST HAVE for any Emergency kit.

My only recommendation is to make sure to re-cap the candles when not in use. The fuel can evaporate and be a waste. Other then that, these are the best investment I have made so far.

I left a neutral 3-star review for the item itself because we haven''t used it yet. I''m sure it would do the job. But the packaging is dangerous. It was not in any kind of shrink-wrap or anything. It had only a piece of clear packing tape over the cap, and it leaked in transit! Add to that, it came in a box with several other items we ordered, and one was a baby toy. Not happy with that AT ALL. We order from Amazon quite often, and this is not typical. Very disappointing.

  • Electronic One-Touch Controls with LED read-out
  • One-Touch Loading Sensing
  • 14 wash cycles
  • Three wash/rinse temperatures
  • One Wash/Spin Speed

Saw a lot of reviews elsewhere saying this machine was super quiet. It is not. It is quiet during the fill and wash cycles, but it makes a fair amount of noise and vibrations during the drain and spin cycles. I have had to get a mat that goes under exercise equipment to cut down the noise for the downstairs neighbors. This helps, but its still loud during these cycles.

It does hold a lot (full set of queen sheets with 4 pillow cases, a shirt, and pair of pants). It rolls fairly easily front to back but to turn it or angle it requires a fair amount of effort. I need to move it to the sink each time I use it.

It cleans well and sure beats the foul laundry room in our building or going to the laundromat.

It is also quite pricey as portable washers go.

Buy GE 2.7 Cu. Ft. White Portable Top Load Washer Now

I''d previously purchased a Haier portable washer, but had nothing but trouble and ended up returning it. After reading multiple positive reviews of this GE machine, I forked over the extra money and bought one.

The pros:

No leaks!

Quiet

Very solid, good quality, fabulous-looking machine

Large for a portable washer, yet easy to maneuver

Very easy to attach and unattach from the faucet.

For the single-faucet connection, the hoses have an excellent design. The intake hose and the drain hose are connected, and the draining water comes out of the faucet extension. So unlike the Haier, the drain hose isn''t dangling in your sink.

Lint filter inside the machine. No need to buy filters for your drain hose.

One potential con:

The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is, the water level doesn''t seem to be quite sufficient. I haven''t seen this issue in any other review that I''ve read, so I plan to call GE to inquire. Maybe there''s a technical issue with my machine. The machine has a load-sensing feature, but it also has five water levels ranging from extra small to extra large which supposedly override the load sensor if you manually select them. I''ve only had the washer 2 days and have done four loads, always manually selecting the water level. I''ve run it with the medium as well as extra large water level. Even with the water level set at "extra large," after the machine fills at the beginning of the wash cycle, the water does not completely cover the clothes. The top layer of clothes (or towels, or whatever) is partly sticking up above the water. And I''m not overloading the machine either, not even close. Once the wash cycle begins, the clothes get rotated around, but if I open the door at any point, some of the items are partly sticking out above the water level. This is not what I''m used to. When the machine fills up for the rinse cycle, it fills higher. But, in the end, the clothes don''t smell quite as fresh as when I''ve run them through the community laundry machines, so I''m wondering if it''s the water level during the washing. Will update this after talking to GE.

This machine is kind of pricey, but it is SO easy to hook up and use, I think it''s worth it. It holds a ton--I believe it''s nearly full sized. It''s quiet, doesn''t jump around, and does a great job cleaning. The filter is easy to clean and replace, and the detergent/fabric softener dispenser works really well. This is my second portable washer, and the difference between the first one (a different brand) and this one is night and day. This literally takes 10 seconds to hook up (one you move it to your sink). Takes about 30 second to drain the pressure out, disconnect, and let the water drip out of the hose when you want to put it away. I''m absolutely thrilled with this machine! Don''t let the price keep you from this machine. My condo building has laundry, but it''s three flights and one building over, and I was sick of it! I''m also sick to death of collecting quarters. If you are too, this machine is the one.

I''ve had this washer for a bit over 6 months now and it''s been terrific. It''s the only nearly full-size portable machine on the market. Quiet, efficient and the happy little chime at the end of the cycle always makes me laugh. One drawback is that it has no bleach dispenser, so you have to wait for it to fill before adding bleach. With regard to the writer who commented on the fill-level, I noticed the same issue. Two things First, it''s an HE top loader and they generally use less water than a standard machine. Second, if you use it like a true portable and hook it up to a sink, the manufacturer recommends defaulting the water temp to the cold water setting and using the tap to adjust the water temp. I forgot to do that once and left it at the regular hot/cold setting (which you do if you''re hooking it up like a regular washer with hot and cold outlets). Lo and behold, the washer filled nearly to the top at the "extra large" load setting. So now when I''m doing large loads, I leave it that way and nothing bad seems to have occurred. When I''m doing a small load, I do set it as recommended, in order to conserve water.

If not for the exhorbitant price you can buy a washer/dryer pair for what this costs and the bleach dispenser issue, it''d be nearly perfect.

EcoUsable Ech2o 25 oz Stainless Steel Filtered Bottle

EcoUsable Ech2o 25 oz Stainless Steel Filtered Bottle - Metallic RedI got this bottle in a beautiful lavender color, which is gorgeous. I like the shape of it as well. I thought it was awesome to have a water bottle with a built in filter... which by the way it still is. However as you can imagine, you have to suck SO hard to get the water to come out. So annoying. They need a better design to make it easier to drink from. I wouldn''t recommend paying so much for this. I wish I wouldn''t have...

I LOVE this concept... having a bottle with a filter in it is a fantastic idea! I was so excited about ordering it and wish there had been more reviews before I had, because now that I have it, it''s SO difficult to suck any water out of it that I end up not using it. The filter also takes up quite a bit of space in the bottle, so I''d recommend buying a larger size (if possible) so you get a full drink out of it. It was an expensive purchase that I now have sitting on a shelf. Too bad the concept is great!

Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier Save 25% Off

Honeywell QuietCare Cool-Moisture Humidifier, 3-Gallon, HCM-630We bought this humidifier to replace one that was purchased about six years ago, also a Honeywell model. That model had a two gallon tank and would shut off if the water ran out. Compared to that, this newer model has a relatively TINY tank, at perhaps a gallon or so. Since the unit is rated at 3 gallons per day output, that would mean quit a bit of refilling on very dry days. On our old unit, the tank had a handle on the underside (where the fill cap is) so that when you filled it, you had something to hold on to. Not so with the new unit. And to make matters even more difficult, the bottom of this new tank is not flat, so you can''t just set it under the faucet and expect it to stay there.

The most annoying thing though is the absence of an automatic shutoff and indicator light when the water level gets too low. Because the tank is in the back of the unit, it is hard to see the water level. This thing will run and run and run without water, drying out the filter so you have to take it out an re-soak it again. While stylistically nicer, this units functionality is a real step down from previous generations of their humidifiers.

Quiet, works well, needs to be refilled daily. Filter only lasted 6 weeks. My local Home Depot doesn''t stock replacement filter. Must order online. Buy extras when ordering humidifier.

This humidifier was about as quiet as they come for the first few weeks. It abruptly started making a lot more noise. We''ve tried adjusting everything but the fan just sounds a lot louder now. I don''t recommend buying it if the quiet aspect is your prime concern.

The filter does need to be changed quite often as the other person mentioned.

Only had unit for a few days and it stopped working.Motor ran,but did not use any water.

I emptied it of all water, put some vinegar in, ran that through,it now works great.

Now, I put a few drops of vinegar in every other fill.

As far as the moldy smell, I use a little Sol u Mel in every two or three fills----no mold.(Sol u Mel kills mold spores and dust mites and helps with alot of other "chores" around the house.

Fiskars 5962 Rain Barrel DiverterPro Kit Save 18% Off

Fiskars 5962 Rain Barrel DiverterPro Kit, BlackI did a lot of research before buying a diverter, and am still happy with this one. It does what it''s supposed to do divert rain from the downspout to a rain barrel until the barrel is full, then automatically send everything down the spout. Installation was rather easy and the quality seems fine for what it is. I like the fact that you can hook up a barrel on either side or both! I hid my barrel around the corner so it''s on the back side of my garage and out of sight, and used less than half the supplied hose. Here are a few improvements I would recommend, however:

The ports on either side of the unit for connecting hoses are split down the middle. I assume this is to increase flexibility, making it easier to attach the included hose. However, this also means that it leaks a bit. One layer of waterproof tape around the outside took care of this. Changing the design to use a barbed fitting would make more sense.

I used this with the 2x3" downspout converter kit. The top is fine. The downspout fits inside the adapter. On the bottom, however, the same fitment causes it to leak at that junction. A little forethought and some silicone sealant during installation took care of this (used silicone for all connections). Again, design could be easily changed so that the adapter fits inside the downspout on the bottom, preventing leaks.

During light rains, the diverter doesn''t send as much water to the barrel as I had hoped. In theory, ALL the water should be diverted during a light rain. However, the removable screen/diverter just fits loosely in the housing and some water leaks through. Design could be improved to make a tighter seal, possibly using a gasket, while still being able to remove for cleaning.

Why black? I would guess that 95% of downspouts are white. I would have been willing to spend a little more for white plastic from the manufacturer than live with black or have to paint it myself.

All in all, though, a great unit and certainly worth 4 stars. I''m just nit picking here so others will know exactly what to expect when they buy one.

I only have a few days and one rain storm to go by but I have an issue with the design of this unit. Many folks have 2X3 downspouts for which Fiskars has provided adapters. Unfortunately, they are not engineered to fit inside of the downspout as it runs below the unit. The unit actually is installed on the outside of the bottom downspout. This virtually guarantees leakage as the water that is not diverted to the rain barrel moves along the sides of the Fiskars unit and comes out in rivlets all along the connection. A call to Fiskars confirmed the design flaw with a suggestion to add caulk. Initial call to customer service was rude, indicating that none of them leaked. Engineering only agreed to notify design of the issue. Too bad as the unit has promise. If it need caulk they should say so and provide it.

Buy Fiskars 5962 Rain Barrel DiverterPro Kit Now

My original one star review is below. Since then, out of pure stubbornness, I''ve made this device work properly. I went to a local downspout/rain gutter manufacturer and purchased 3" square downspout. It''s used for commercial applications, not residential, I''m told, and isn''t available at any home improvement stores, not here anyway. With a little reshaping of the receiving end of the 3" downspout, the bottom end of the Fiskars diverter can be made to fit snugly inside the tubing, which means that your rainwater will stay contained and not leak out all around the edges. Of course, this means that you''re also committed to using 3" downspouting from the end of the Fiskars to the end of your run, and the stuff is not cheap, but it works the way it should if the Fiskars had been designed properly in the first place. It works great, in fact. If you can''t find 3" downspouting in your area, of if you''re not willing to spend that much money, or to cut, bend and reshape metal, then my one star review below stands.

One star review: "It is a great idea. Just horribly executed. Almost impossible to fit a 2x3" downspout into the top, tho it can be done with much bending and twisting of the downspout end, encouraging leaves and debris to get caught there. But the brain trust in the Fiskar''s design department decided to make the outlet adapter identical with the inlet, to save money no doubt. Instead of fitting inside the downspout as it should, the outlet adapter fits over the outside of the downspout, guaranteeing that it will leak. Especially after having to mangle the downspout to make it fit here, too. Caulk? Won''t last a season. Might as well leave off the diverter and just run the downspout to the top of the rain barrel and let the water run out of the top of the barrel. Same difference in the end. So after cutting my downspout and trying unsuccessfully to figure out any way of making this work as it should, now I have to return it AND replace my downspout. Thanks a lot, Fiskars. Useless."

I am a commercial plumber by trade and living in TX, water restrictions are coming down. There will be two avenues for water collection and use. Rain water and Condensate water from the AC. My AC makes 8 gallons a day. I looked far and wide for the best cost VS function on units like this and this wins hands down. Simple and easy to install. Easy to clean out. Alot of the others need removed to clean. This one has an access door and a removeable screen so in winter you can just remove that part and it is a straight run down spout again. To address a few of the "issues" people have had. If you have 3 inch gutters, silicon in the top and bottom adapter and screw it tight before install. It won''t leak. Silicon in the leader to the adapter and screw with self tappers on 4 sides. It won''t leak. One thing I did find is that the diverter/ screen piece did not fit in tight enough to get the maximum collection rate I desired. NO BIG DEAL. I took a self tapping screw and from the inside, thru the clean out cover, I pushed down on the screen/diverter piece and then ran the large head self tapping screw thru the back and directly above the top bar of the screen. This locked it down into the inside channel. The diverter is plastic so it sealed the screw. Now I get full collection as fast as the water will go down the drain tube. But still a wee bit of room to drain the diverter over a period of 2 minutes when the rain stops. Being this diverter has two outlets, one on either side, running both tubes to a barrel on each side will collect much more water then having barrels linked in series. people complained of the color? get a can of krylon plastic''s paint. My leaders are hunter green and you can''t even tell I have a diverter there now. I was amazed at just how water these will collect. I set up two barrels as a test run and they filled up in under 5 minutes with a Texas time summer cloud burst. These are well worth the money and function great at a fraction of the cost of more expensive models.

I recently purchased the rainbarrel kit for a single downspout. The kit works very well and came in a timely fashion. The installation looked very simple, though I had it installed during my gutter renovation. You will need a hacksaw or something to cut your existing gutters, so that would be the only challenge with this kit. The trap is very easy to clean and catches most debris. If you have some form of gutter guards, you really won''t need to clean out the trap but once a year at most.

My only complaint with this kit is the color. The black color would really stand out if this was in a focal point, and the fact that they do not offer other color selections limits where I would use this product. For me, it was installed in the back of the house, so it is not noticeable. I think they would have done much better to have made the diveter white so as to match alot more exterior trim/gutter colors.

10" Sediment 5 Micron Filter

10'' Sediment 5 Micron Filter w/ 1/4''QC Straight ConnectionI have a DolFyn water distillation unit. [Model A30D] City tap water entering the water intake valve must be super clean or the electric intake valve will fail and it is very expensive to replace. In addition, unfiltered water entering the boiling chamber means that you have to clean it more often which is a hassle and not inexpensive either. This 5 micron filter by Omnipure filters sediment effectively. I have used my previous one for 2 years before replacing it. I cut the old filter in half to examine the filter material and found that it was uniformy filled with debris from the tap water. [Your tap water source may require more frequent changes] This filter is expremely easy to change. Just push the 1/4" tubing into the filter end and it is water-tight. Just make sure that you cut a bit off the supply and exit tubing each time so that the tubing is smooth where it goes into the filter ends. Also make sure that direction of the water flow is the same as the flow arrow printed on the filter. This filter is a must for anyone owning a distillation unit to avoid costly maintenance. Price was roughly half of what it is at retail locally. Delivery was one day late but considering it was during the Christmas and New Years holiday that is not unreasonable. Very satisfied with this filter and seller.

Frigidaire FRA12EPT1 12,000 BTU Portable Heat/Cool Air Conditioner with Remote ControlBe very careful not to tilt unit when transporting it if tilted it MUST sit for at least two hours before starting it. This unit has worked well continuously for two weeks. I put it on a sill-height table so that the water would drain well and the exhaust tube would be straight. My only complaints are:

1. The fan never goes off no matter what setting it is on (the compressor does go off, but not the fan).

2. When cooling, a lot of heat is generated in the exhaust hose an insulation sleeve would be nice.

3. The drain tube is way too short.

The machine was fairly easy to set up, and it does cool the room reasonably well, but I was expecting a heat pump....not so----according to the documentation received with the machine, there is an auxiliary heater, NOT a heat pump. We will see how well this heater works this winter. One other thing....the fan runs continuously, it does not shut off when the compressor kicks off, and it is fairly noisy.

My ancient apartment has almost no ventilation throughout and is always ten to fifteen degrees hotter than outside. Those crazy summer heatwaves sometimes get my room into the high 90s and as high as 105-110! It is unbearable. I could no longer take the sleepless nights in the heat and picked up one of these units. I had to "ghetto rig" the exhaust hose up to the crank out style window using a ton of cardboard and duct tape. I have it sitting on a metal computer desk that is level with the window sill.

Pros:

-Will drop the temp of the room around ten-fifteen degrees and keep it there. While not as great a window mounted unit, I''ll gladly take 85 degrees over 95. The best performance I''ve seen so far is walking into my room @ 85 degrees and eventually getting it down to 70 (took 6 hours of continuous use).

-Remote.

-Timer so you don''t end up running it all night.

-Not as loud as I was expecting it.

Cons:

-Produces a ton of water via the drain. It took no time to fill up a five gallon bucket.

-Air blows straight up. I had to rig a piece of cardboard to deflect the cold air into the rest of the room instead of straight into the ceiling and back towards the hot exhaust tube.

-The exhaust hose always comes loose from the unit

-Exhaust hose is not as flexible as I was hoping.

A quick tip I''d like to provide is sealing up all the doors and windows leading into the room you have the unit working in. The edges around my door have huge gaps that let in tons of hot air from the rest of the apartment. Some foam sealant tape and a door sweep helped with those problems and contribute to keeping the room cool.

This unit has kept my kitchen down to 77 with its thermostat set on 72 during the summer''s first 90-plus days here. Not bad, since I knew I was buying a portable (and therefore less efficient) A/C instead of a window or through-the-wall unit.

The salesman told me it had an internal bucket to collect the water, and that it would shut off automatically when full. He said it didn''t have automatic evaporation of the moisture created by cooling and dehumidifying, which is common in modern portable A/C units, but I was fine with having an internal bucket and automatic shutoff. Just like the various dehumidifiers I''ve owned. However, after I''d paid a separate contractor to bring this very heavy unit to my home (the appliance store considered it "cash and carry" and therefore ineligible for their usual delivery service), I found out that it has no internal bucket. The owner has to attach a garden hose and use an external bucket, which will merrily overflow if the unit is left running with no one at home to empty that bucket as needed. Since the drain hose plug is lower than most windows, putting the hose out the window and letting it drain outside isn''t practical unless the A/C unit can be raised off the floor.

The air exhaust hose does just love to come loose, and duct tape is the answer. Also, you''ll need to either take the whole hose assembly out of the window so you can shut the window against heavy, wind-driven rain; or you''ll need to rig some sort of outside cover for the hose, because that hose leads down into the machine and it''s just begging to funnel rain inside.

Overall this unit meets my needs, but it wouldn''t if I had hoped to leave it running while away from home for long periods of time. I have no idea why Frigidaire thinks an external drip bucket is a great idea, or why they can''t come up with a better air exhaust hose design. From a major brand name, in an expensive machine, I expected better.

Want Frigidaire FRA12EPT1 12,000 BTU Portable Heat/Cool Air Conditioner Discount?

The FRA12EPT1 12,000 arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It took my electrician less than 45 minutes to hook it up. No additional wiring was necessary, just plug into any 3 prong household outlet. I was fearful that the unit would be noisy but it has surprised me by how quiet it is for such a powerful piece of machinery. From looking at the picture, I wasn''t sure if the air flow came out the top, sides,or both. It comes out the top. Local temperatures have ranged from 37-93 degrees so I have a pretty good idea of how heating and cooling are going to work and both have been adequate to keep my 12x16 sun porch comfortable. I will give this heater/cooler the highest recommendation!!

This is a whole house (2 or 3 people) filter unit with a shut off head on it that twists 30 degrees to either shut off the water going through the filter housing, or straight (as the photo shows) for normal operation.

I have been running one of these for the past 6-1/2 years in Fort Mohave, Arizona (Hot and Dry).

The unit WILL NOT LAST 10 YEARS IN THIS CLIMATE. I can only speak of the climate I live in, but assume the results would be much the same unless you are living in paradise, and then you would be drinking from artesian well

In the real world, you need at least one of these to stop the muck from getting into your house.

I woke up a few days ago at three or four in the morning to walk the dog and had a gusher coming out of this filter, and running down the embankment. The filter housing had cracked. Replaced the housing with the cheaper opaque unit and two days later it sprang another leak out of the head.

My recommendation is to not get this unit with the shut off head (it is a pain in the rump) and go for the AP802 at 45gpm (large house)or the AP801 at 20gpm which is closer to this AP101T at only 8gpm.

You do need to have the capability to shut off the water to the unit to replace the filter, so just put in a simple ball valve since you are doing plumbing work anyway.

Again, my AP101T only lasted about 6-1/2 years, and when these things go (And they always go at three A.M.), you get a higher water bill and if installed in the wrong place, water damage.

Also, all of this type of filter use an O-ring that needs to be lubricated when installed; you can use electric grease, or the 3M stuff at $17.00 a tube (big tube) from your supplier.

I had this unit for about 3 years. After the first year or so, replacing filter became an adventure in leak control. The bypass head on this will leak eventually. I got sick and tire of finding the right amount of torque to screw in the filter housing and bypass position that didn''t leak once water pressure was applied. Eventually, I could not get this stop leaking and bought the stainless steel model (no bypass or myriad of parts). When I pulled apart this unit when it was replaced, the threads on the housing were crushing off the housing. The internal parts on the bypass mechanism had some gross scum on it. My replacement has a solid head, no springs, gaskets, etc for stuff to grow on. Expect to leak some amount of water then you replace a filter, so install in a proper location (preferably near your main shut-off). Also, make sure the plumbing is firmly anchored before and after the filter. You want to reduce stress on the plastic filter head so it doesn''t crack by carrying the weight of the plumbing or through the torquing of the filter housing.

When this operates, the filter works well. We have a tankless water heater and this pre-filter filters out gunk that would ordinarily be clogging the exchanger in the water heater. It also protects the tiny pumps in dishwashers, ice-makers and the like from clogging crud. We notice that sink and shower faucets no longer collect stuff behind the holes. A pre-filter such as this (but better made) is very worthwhile, IMO.

Austin Air Healthmate Air Purifers

Austin Air Healthmate PlusI am very sensitive to chemicals. I give the HealthMate Plus credit for saving my life. With it in my home I can handle odors and chemicals from other apartments and the outside.

Mine has been thru neighbors painting, and remodeling. I did have a break down with it and the warranty was honored. They even put an emergency tag on the repair so it was repaired faster.

The newer ones are so much more quieter than the old ones. When I got mine back from the factory I was constantly putting my hand on it to see if it was running. It was just so quiet.

This is one of the first items that I recommend for a chemically sensitive person to buy.

When the box arrived all I had to do was lift the box off and plug it in. It was so well packed I was impressed.

The unit works well but has some design flaws that could be added such as: a variable speed control to adjust the speed (sound) beyond just the three choices, the outlet could be adjustable so you could direct the flow of the air wiout moving the unit, the strength of the casing could be stronger so that if somene accidentially sits on it that would not be a problem (got kids?), and the manufacturing company could bother to answer their emails and cold write you back (which they don''t) with a confirmation so that you *know* they have received your warranty registration online. I would buy the unit again and wanted another unit, but since the company did not answer back my emails when I had questions about an other use for an additional one I did not bother to buy the second one. So far I don''t feel the manufacturer cares much about their customers and hope there will be no problems when I have to deal with them in the future.

The Austin Air Healthmate Plus employs a certified HEPA filter which can remove 99.97 percent of particles larger than 0.3 microns. Since mold spores are larger than 0.3 microns, the Austin Air Healthmate filters can remove almost all mold spores inside rooms. The Austin Air Healthmate Plus contains nearly 15 pounds of activated carbon, which can remove aflatoxin, trichothecene and ochratoxin mold toxin gases, zeolites which can adsorb aflatoxins and hydrogen sulfide and Potassium Iodide which helps eliminate objectionable odors, such as formaldehyde.

I recommend a 30 day trial of the Austin Air Healthmate Plus for anyone who suspects indoor mold toxins are adversely affecting them. It is rated to provide two air exchanges per hour in 1500 square feet of average height rooms. I think the Austin Air Heathmate Plus would be very helpful for many mold toxic patients, since it could help create a "clean room," especially in patient bedrooms or offices, where they presumably spend about eight hours daily.

Many employees working in mold contaminated offices or schools are afraid to leave their toxic workplaces during this high unemployment job market. The Austin Air Healthmate Plus could help reduce the toxicity of their workplace, while they attempt to persuade their employers to correct the indoor mold contamination.

Since zeolites can adsorb hydrogen sulfide gas, I believe the Austin Air Healthmate Plus might help protect homeowners from hydrogen sulfide outgassed from Chinese drywall, while the Chinese drywall is removed or sealed.

If you are chemically sensitive, this may be the best air purifier for you, since it does not add anything to the air. It is housed in a sturdy low maintainence metal housing which does not outgas any plastic residues.

The Austin Air Healthmate Plus can remove many odors which ozone shock treatments have failed to remove. It is helping remove new carpet pad odor presently and I also used it to scrub toluene paint solvent odors. I think it would be very useful in auto body paint shops, in addition to exhaust fans. Actually, I would be thrilled if Ace Hardware would deploy them at the front of their stores, by the insecticides, to remove fumes seems like you always need to hold your breath while you walk past the pesticides at the front of every Ace Hardware store.

Research published by Mayo Clinic revealed 93 percent of chronic sinusitis is caused by mold. The Healthmate Plus may be one of the most effective treatments for sinusitis.

Austin Air offers a 30 day money back guarantee. I am not returning mine and I doubt many purchasers do.

DISCLOSURE: I do not have any financial interest in the Austin Air company

BISSELL Flip-!t Select Hard Floor Cleaner Save 18% Off

BISSELL Flip-!t Select Hard Floor Cleaner with Heat, 7340Whether I used a regular mop and bucket, my swiffer wet jet, or my hoover steam vac, I always ended up with a haze on my hardwood floors that I would clean off with a wipe or furniture polish. This is the first machine that leaves my floor shiny and without a haze. It is worth it just for that!!! I also like the job it does on my lineoleum. The first couple of times I used it on what I thought were clean floors because I had recently mopped them, I was surprised at how dirty the water was. After using this as my primary means to clean my floors (two maybe three times a week depending on traffic and what is going on in my household) I notice that my floors not only look cleaner, but also feel much cleaner on the few occassions when I am not wearing house slippers. This is so much better than the regular mopping.

I have read other reviews on the flip-it regarding water being left on the floor; when that does happen, I just go back over that section so that it will be taken care of. For the most part I don''t care about a little water on the floor because I would have so much more if I had the mop and bucket or used my steam vac. I am sold!

I was torn between the Hoover and Bissell models each seemed to have good and bad points. So I got both, with the idea that I''d return the one that was less capable to do the job. What I found was that both have different pluses, and ended up keeping them both.

The Spinscrub has the advantage in cleaning power. The spinning brushes do a better job on getting tile floors clean, especially rough surface tile. It''s also more sturdily built feels more solid (although that sometimes does not translate into longevity). It''s the one I use for large tile expanses, such as in the kitchen and basement. But, the 15 inch width is a drawback in tighter spaces, such as bathrooms.

The Flip-it excels in maneuverability perfect for getting around obstacles (such as the toilet). Although it lacks spinning brushes, it has the advantage of a cloth pad which does a great job on smooth surfaces. The heat also helps out, especially with sticky messes. It doesn''t turn the water to steam, but clearly kicks up the temp (I believe the spec''s say 25 degrees).

I found the best way to use it is to start with the cloth pad attached. That helps even out the water distribution and also helps capture crumbs, pet hair, etc. After one pass with the cloth attached, remove it and put in the scrubby pad. That helps get the floor 99% dry (smooth surfaces) or 90% dry (rough surfaces).

The cloth pad really shines (no pun intended) when it comes to hardwood or laminate floors. Does a far better job than the Hoover in cleaning and water suction. I don''t use the Hoover at all anymore on smooth floors regardless of the size of the room. It may take a bit longer with the Flip-it due to its smaller size, but the end result is much better.

Both are about equal when it comes to disassembly and cleaning a few parts to take out and clean, but nothing major. Cleaning the unit after using it is very important to keep the crud out of the seals to prevent leaks and clogs. Both have a washable filter, and both require that you dry the filter before using it again (tip get an extra filter so you''re never without a dry, clean filter).

I tend to favor the smell of the Bissell cleaning solution, but the Hoover stuff is pretty good both have a nice "fresh" smell. Both brands clean equally well, and are priced about the same. Lowes carries the Bissell brand; Walmart carries Hoover (at least in my area).

Bissell tends to be a nicer company when it comes to support. They offer replacement parts and supplies on their website at reasonable prices, and answer emails if you have questions. Hoover is not as responsive, and their direct-purchase prices are rather high.

One nit with the Bissell is that the cord is rather stiff wish it was more flexible. Also, the water cups (both clean and dirty) are smaller on the Bissell, so you need to fill-up and dump out more often than with the Hoover.

Regardless of which one you get, get one! You''ll be amazed at the amount of dirt that wet mopping leaves behind. Once you start using one, you''ll never pick up a mop again.

I used the Bissell Flip-It Select for the first time tonight. I detest mopping, but with a combination of both linoleum and tile floors in my house, it is a must. So in looking for an alternative to mopping, I hoped for the best with this product. I was not disappointed. Vacuuming first with the dry vacuum side is an excellent alternative to sweeping the floor. After using the wet vacuum side with the heated solution/water mixture, not only was my bathroom linoleum (which had a thick build up of sticky hairspray) cleaned marvelously, but also my tile kitchen floor. The unit is lightweight and easy to use. The filter did get clogged with dirt and hair, but the sound of the motor changed when the suction stopped, so I unplugged it and cleaned the dirty wet/dry container and filter, put it back together, plugged it in, and suction was completely restored. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase after only one use. I will recommend it to friends and family alike.

This machine is so easy to use! I love the option of cleaning my tile floors with heat or no heat, depending on the grime! The mop pad works very well on my sealed hardwood while the brush worked excellent on my grout! I didn''t have to go over anything twice and my floors looked great when I was finished! The "flipping" action is also very easy as this machine is lightweight! I love not having to use a mop and bucket and its even better now that this product offers heated cleaning! Great job!

Want BISSELL Flip-!t Select Hard Floor Cleaner Discount?

I have carefully analyzed all the reviews (positive and negative) before deciding to buy this product in order that the right level of expectation may be set. My need is very simple. I have almost all hard floors in my house, either tile or hardwood. So floor keeping is a relatively low maintenance chore. I know Flip-It serves both as a dry vacuum and wet mop. Knowing that both dry and wet debris are going into the same place and I want to eliminate the messy task of cleaning out the wet gunk, so I opt to use the cleaner solely as an electric mop.

I like the idea that while it is mopping, the machine can also take care of the small amount of debris that I missed in my "pre-mopped" vacuuming. It does take some practice to get the machine to do the job right. Although I don''t have the problem of puddles of water as other have experienced, I have other issue such as the cleaning pad kept sliding out. I find the maneuvering quite exhausting due to the squeegee design. Also, my finger gets very tired from squeezing the solution release button. I don''t find the cleaning result dramatic perhaps because my floors are normally quite clean. The machine will not get to the wall edges so it won''t eliminate manual laboring. I''m also not sure if the heating feature does anything to produce a cleaner floor since the water temperature does not felt very warm. After two days of experimentation, I decided that the machine is going back to the store. For light mopping, I am going back to my Swiffer Wetjet. It is cheaper, quiet, lighter, easy to use, and best of all, no cleaning up required.

Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner Save 22% Off

Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air ConditionerI got this to supplement the window unit I''ve been using for years and ended up just completely replacing the window unit.

Very robotic design, it stands around 3ft tall and is in fact rather slim once you take it out of the packaging. Came with all the necessary accessories to get it running immediately. Hooking it up and putting the hot air vent where my window A/C used to be was extremely straightforward.

We usually power it up after my daughter returns from pre-school and set the temperature to around 74F. It usually shuts off at about 2am when the room and outside temps are nice and comfortable. The air is extremely cold around the unit and gets a good sized room down to a nice temp really fast. It seems very quiet during the day with all the other sounds and my daughter has slept like a baby ever since we got it. I does emit a low hum when it''s cooling but otherwise the fan sound is not noticeable to me. You can turn it on high for a few minutes but after awhile, that''s overkill. It does a great job on a low fan setting once the room is almost at the temp you want it at.

I really like the idea of not having to use central air like in our old apartment. I think over time the utility savings will easily cover the cost of the unit. The best part is I can bring it with us if we ever move.

It''s worked excellently for a couple of weeks now and I may just end up getting another for our own room.

Whynter Eco Friendly 14000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner

This has been a lifesaver during hot summer days. I agree with the negative reviews about it being noisy, but I have it in my bedroom and I got used to it after 2 nights. I sleep through it now. The LED is also very bright, but not so much that it keeps me awake. I took off a star because of the useless window mount. The hoses weren''t long enough for it to reach my window, so I went to Home Depot to build a rig. Replacement hoses are EXPENSIVE, so I didn''t buy them. The screws are very short and pop right out of the cheap plastic mount, so I''m using tape to hold them in place. I have since moved and now have casement windows, so I''m in the process of building a new mount in which I will screw the hoses directly into a piece of plexiglass which will sit in the window. I''ve read that this will work fine, so I''m not concerned about it. One of the negative reviews I read about this unit is that it failed to cool the space. It is designed to cool roughly 600 square feet (a small apartment) so it works fine for my place. I also use a fan to push the cool air into the other room. I like the look of the unit, as well as the fact that it can be a fan or a dehumidifier. I bought plastic tubing for the water collection tank, but it has yet to produce a single drop. The vent hose is doing its job.

I have a canopy tent and use it often during the summers here in Florida. I got this unit to provide a bit of repost to the heat/humitity and it did a wonderful job.

What caught my eye about this product was the low amp/voltage use. I connected a amp/volt monitor and discovered it pulled about 9.73 amps, a little lower than the 10.5 I saw in the user manual.

I connect a drain tube, so I can''t comment on how quickly the water repository fills up. I do say it is the coldest portable AC unit I have ever used.

Defiantly a good buy.

This AC unit is amazing!I ordered it on a Saturday and it said "may take two weeks for delivery" but I received it by Thursday (bought through Amazon so shipping was free two-day).

PROS: It looks great! Compared to other portable units, it isn''t heavy at all (whoever said it was must be a super light weight because I''m a 120lb, 5''6" girl and I got it up a set of stairs just fine, it only weighs like 70-ish pounds plus it has wheels, although it was a little awkward to hold on to because it is tall.) It cools super quickly, the room was 80 when I turned it on and it easily cooled it to 65 degrees in two hours. I live in New England where it isn''t humid, but the summers get into the hundreds, I haven''t had trouble with needing to pump water out of it, but I don''t have to deal with humidity. The hoses are flexible, I don''t have to have the AC directly in front of my window (it''s about a two feet away from the hose holes in the window). The frame that holds the hoses in the windows was just perfectly sized for my (standard sized) window, but if my window was any larger I would''ve needed to jerry-rig it. The remote is super easy to use (although it doesn''t light up).

CONS: The unit is a little loud, but still quieter than my old window-based AC. The hoses are a little clunky and are white so they stand out next to the unit. The LED is bright, but I put a sticky note over it and I don''t have any problems sleeping with it. I use the remote instead of the buttons on the unit because they are easier to see (the labels for the buttons are etched into the unit so the writing is black on black, but I have a dark room, so light would probably fix this.)

Overall I love this unit! I would definitely reccomend it!

Want Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner Discount?

I built a bar in my garage that is ~ 600 sqft. Now understand, it has walls and insulation but the exterior is corrugated tin and gets very hot. I started my journey of research to find a unit to make it comfortable. I looked at all sorts of options and spoke to several AC installers. Typically speaking, AC''s are rated by the BTU''s (12K BTU per 400 sqft) and I knew that 14K was not enough to cool down 600 sqft . I thought I would try it anyway because of the ease. When the unit arrived I took it out of the box, connected a few things, and turned it on (yes it is that easy). Just remember...there are two hoses in the back of the unit (intake and output). The output hose must be ventilated and the input needs to be left disconnected from the window. The intake is what pulls the air from the room, the unit cools the air, the cold air is blown back into the room and the hot air it vented out. That is basically how a unit (any AC unit) works.

Contrary to my thoughts, it works great. It is not real loud (as some say it is). Even in July with 105° Texas heat and 98% humidity this unit will pull the temp down to a comfortable degree. It will take about an hour and a half but it is well worth it.

MultiPure MP1200EL NEWEST MODEL Capacity-Metered Under-Sink Water Filter Save 3% Off

MultiPure MP1200EL NEWEST MODEL Capacity-Metered Under-Sink Water Filter - Includes Capacity-Metered FaucetIt''s only been a little over a month since I''ve been using it. So far, my wife and I are definitely extremely-happy with it. Living where we do in Japan, tap water is drinkable and is not bad taste wise but at times smells a little too much for us. It took us a while to decide on which filter system to get but after research decided on the Multi-Pure MP1200EL. After installing, we noticed immediately that there was no smell and the water tasted even better than before.

Installation was real easy! It took me less than two hours to install. The most difficult part for me was drilling the hole in the sink counter for the faucet to fit in. The thread attachments fit with no problem. I was expecting a difference in metric and inch threads but apparently is universal. Also, the kit came with thread seal tape so no need to go out and buy.

Even though we thought it was pricey, we feel it was well worth it.
