Sunterra 104506 Table Top Fountain Pump 30 GPH Save 31% Off

Sunterra 104506 Table Top Fountain Pump 30 GPH, BlackI have a small bowl and this fountain pump is small enough to fit in and generates the strong bubbling sound effect, I am very satisified with the result. Sometimes the pump with larger water volume creates louder pumping machinary noise than the bubble water sound itself. This little pump is quiet, the water bubbling sound is musical as it should be. The only ''improvement'' I can think of will be the tight curly electrical cable, I used plenty of little rocks and pebbles to stablized the little pump to stay at the center of the bowl.

My pump on my small desk fountain stopped working. I have one of those fountains that is maybe 1/2 to 3/4 foot tall, roundish, has 2 layers stacked up in the middle, supported by plastic, with large rocks around the base and middle and top levels. Pump goes in the bottom middle and shoots to the underside of the top layer if that makes sense (i.e. the water doesn''t shoot up and out of the fountain, it hits the top plastic then flows over the edges in a nice waterfall formation). Anyway this pump worked just fine for that purpose. I had to turn the level down a bit it was a bit too powerful at first there is a "volume" switch for about 3 or 4 different levels of how high it will pump. Also, it made quite a bit of noise at first, so I let it run for an hour or so and the noise cleared right up and now it runs quietly and smoothly. I do agree the cord is quite thick compared to the pump, so I used rocks to wedge it into place. So for my purposes, I have a working fountain again.

I''ve been running this pump constantly in a table top fountain for over a year and it has worked perfectly. It''s very quiet, the quietest and smoothest pump I''ve ever found. No loud noises, no strong vibration. The cord is heavy duty and well insulated, which is a good thing. Even when the fountain is barely burbling, I can''t hear the pump at all 10 feet away.

I made a makeshift pump housing from a hydroponic/vanda orchid plant pot (basically a hard plastic mesh pot) to stabilize the pump, hold it off the bottom of the fountain, and support the fountain components. The pump not touching the bowl makes a quiet pump even quieter.

I would''ve preferred a pump that moves only 10 or 15 GPH, because my fountain''s bowl is only 13 inches across, and this one is too strong. I managed to deflect some of the water column by how I designed the fountain. The pump''s water flow can be reduced with the slider thingie, but that increases the vibration noise slightly and potentially shortens the life of the pump by forcing it to work harder to push water through a narrower opening.

I have a litlle fountain at home and i had to replace the old fountain pump. This Sunterra 104506 table top Fountain pump works very good inside under water, it doesn''t have any noise. You only hear the water running. it is on 24 hours/day.

I purchased this product to replace my broken pump from my Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain. Someone else had said that it would work and it was half the price. I figured with the easy return policy on Amazon Prime items I would try it. I just got it today and it was awesome. It is a perfect replacement. The picture of the product shows the tube sticking up but it is not attached when you get it. It is a removable piece. I didn''t attach it and the male part of the fountain fit perfectly in the pump and it is working great. So glad I bought this and not the $20 replacement pump from the vendor. Plus with Prime I got it in 2 days.

  • 98% Stabilized Salt Rejection (Minimum Rejection 96%)
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 58 listed
  • Membrane Dimensions: 11.75" Overall Length, 1.75" Diameter (Fits Standard 2" ID Membrane Housings)

This is review of "Dow Filmtec Residential RO Membranes". While it should work as described, DO NOT USE on Watts Premier WP systems (i.e. WP-4V, WP-4, WP-5). The WP systems are the one-piece manifold systems from Watts Premier.

This does not have the built-in Check Valve or Brine Seal inside the white plastic tube of the RO Membrane. Without this Check Valve or Brine Seal, water from the reservoir tank (when full) will back flow to the RO membrane and damage it, and waste water.

This back flow or reverse flow will happen when your reservoir tank gets full. So basically, you will be wasting water as the water trickle will not stop. When I tested it, water continued to trickle out of the reject water outlet tube even when my reservoir tank is full already (it should stop when reserve tank is full). The water coming out is at a much slower rate though, but still plenty enough to raise your water bill since the water trickle will continue 24 hours a day.

I love this RO membrane for my Vertec under the sink system. I have well water and this makes my water taste so much better and also makes the water clear and clean. I never worry about drinking my water with this membrane and I am no longer embarrassed to serve my water to anyone because it is the best water in town and has no taste. Our well water has a lot of lime in the water but this filters it out and leaves only the best water you could find anywhere.

Our reverse osmosis system had been serviced by the company that installed it at a much higher price, obviously, than we could do ourselves. This was our first time changing the membrane, but with a little help from a YouTube video, it was easy to do. We sized up (if you are changing the size of the membrane, get the proper sized flow restrictor, also easy to change with the help of a video) and couldn''t be happier with it.

received in a timely fashion and very well packaged. very happy with the purchase would definitely order from them again!

Crane EE-8072 Germ Defense Electrostatic Air Purifier Save 23% Off

Crane EE-8072 Germ Defense Electrostatic Air Purifier, WhiteWe just got this unit a few days ago took me all of 2 minutes to read the instructions and crank it up. I placed it in our large bedroom (about 280sf) and hit the turbo button (great feature that in essence makes the unit run at a super high speed for 20 minutes to quickly process the room''s air) and left. My wife opened the door to the room about a half hour later and said "wow it feels so fresh in here". We both smelled the difference. it''s really what you don''t smell nothing seems to be in the air. No dust, odors, nothing.

It runs quite except on the high speed and turbo you can certainly here it running at these speeds but it''s a nice white noise. It''s solid and compact. I love that I will never have to buy a filter for this and it tells me when it needs cleaning.

I grabbed this during a lightning deal Black Friday week ''11. I had been looking into getting an air filter for years, reading reviews, checking prices, etc, but always heard that either they did not really work, or they were not worth the cost, plus additional costs over time. This popped up in a lightning deal, so figured why not just try one. I had it running in my large upstairs bedroom at night for most of December. I could smell a difference in the air nearby, but nothing major. A few weeks ago I finally got around to cleaning my pet room, and giving away my non-dog pets. All the animals were kept in cages, and never allowed to wander around, so no stains/accidents on the floor, or anything like that, but the room definitely had an animal smell. I cleared out everything and vacuumed about ten times, but still, could not get the smell to go away. I moved the air filter to this room, placed it in a corner and left it on the "Whisper" setting. It took a few days, but now the room has this nice pleasant clean smell. No indication it ever smelled differently or had animals in it. Also, have noticed the difference in the air, as have my guests, but have not had to clean the unit yet. It does have a slight build up on it, so it is grabbing something out of the air.

Pro''s

Quiet Even on high or turbo I cannot hear this unit over my PC or TV

Cold Air coming through is noticeably cooler than surrounding air

Compact Very small foot print, plus very light weight

Con''s

Static As in electricity. If you walk around this unit often, you will notice a build up of static electricity and might get a slight shock when touching metal. This could also be due to the overly dry air my part of Texas has been experiencing lately. This is nothing worse than dragging your feet across a carpeted floor or rubbing a balloon on your hair.

I plan on getting additional units for other rooms in my house.

Buy Crane EE-8072 Germ Defense Electrostatic Air Purifier Now

The unit definitely gets the job done but there are some drawbacks. It seems to clean the air in a small room very well. However, it''s loud on the medium to turbo settings. This is due to the fact that it''s seemingly constructed with inexpensive fans made for computers. It sounds like a computer when the cooling fan(s) are in overdrive. Overall, the entire unit seems like it was designed and built as home hobby project.

Other Cons:

The power cord and adapter is odd and wimpy for an appliance like this

There are strange legs that fold out of the bottom

The temporary instruction decals on the top of the unit are very hard to remove and look bad

The plastic that is used to construct the machine seems thin and somewhat flimsy

Overall, I think this is a good unit for the price if you want the electrostatic feature. However, I would spend another $20 or more for something that is better constructed and quieter.

Quiet and efficient. (I this is actually my second one, for work.)

I''m very pleased with this air-filter. Very reliable too... I got my first one 2 years ago, and it''s been running nearly night and day the whole time. It still performs flawlessly.

It''s a little tough to clean the filter with that narrow brush, but it''s better than breathing that stuff in.

I bought this for my son''s room since he has some allergies and I thought it might reduce the pollen/dust. It seemed to be working fine and he kept it operating pretty regularly, but about 3-4 months after purchasing it, it started emitting a very strong burning smell, making it unusable. I don''t recommend this.

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner Save 33% Off

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900We should really be hired to test vacuum and carpet cleaners, but even so the price of this dream clean machine gave me some pause (okay, a lot). With 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and fairly light carpets, we put our cleaners to the test. I have gone through SEVERAL carpet cleaners (roughly 1 every 2 years) and have also had the carpets professionally cleaned. Honestly, this carpet cleaner cleaned as well if not better than the pros, and worlds better than our current Hoover F6207-900 SteamVac Lite Carpet Cleaner with Heated Cleaning.

Pros:

1) Handle can lay back fully with no strain on the hose I mention this after replacing the hoses several times on previous Hoovers

2) You do NOT have to mix the detergent!!!! Wow what a great feature, no waste!

3) 2 separate rollers actually scrub the carpet amazingly well

4) No fuss dial system incredibly easy to go between standard clean, spot clean (does not pick up so you can scrub, scrub, scrub away the years of bad carpet cleaners), and rinse (the water rinse is GREAT!)

5) Easy to follow indicator lights let you know if you know when it is cleaning (detergent), rinsing (water only), or drying (neither light on)

6) Spot clean is easy to follow actually squirts out the front so you can actually see the spot you are hitting (2 settings, spray or stream)

7) My previous Hoovers had this obnoxious detachable hose reel, and then when the clips that hold it on break, you find yourself dragging accessories around the house this one is not detachable.

8) The hose remains attached, you don''t have to plug it in, so no hose door to break and lose (yeah, I''ve done that too)

9) Scrubber assembly comes off easily for cleaning (but not the front roller, which might be a problem if you don''t maintain it)

10) generous cord longer than previous Hoovers

11) 6 year warranty makes it cheaper than replacing 3 $200 Hoovers with 1 year warranties (just check where your service center is ours is about 30 miles away and always very responsive)

12) Since it is clear plastic (opposed to grey or purple) it is easier to see when the water being picked up becomes fairly clear indicating you have extracted the maximum amount of dirt you can

Cons:

1) It''s big and heavy and I have tons of stairs

2) Blue light shining on carpet this gives me eye strain after a while

3) Waste container there''s no delicate way to dump it it''s opening is like a big bucket and it gets everywhere. I suppose it will get better with practice, and it is easier to clean this way, but I think it was a step backward

4) Very small holes to pour in the detergent and water buy a funnel since the detergent is pricey

5) Detergent guzzler

Eh''s (take ''em or leave ''em):

1) Heat I don''t think it really did much (It didn''t feel substantial)

2) Waste container sensor doesn''t detect the detergent well, with the clear plastic, it''s pretty obvious when they need emptying/filling

3) Blue light why blue simulated uv? It doesn''t actually illuminate anything.

4) Carry handle it''s made of molded plastic and is in the back, so... yeah, pretty awkward hoisting it up and down the stairs. But, I really don''t have a better option, so am not putting it as a con.

How did it do???

If I had known how well it would do, I would have taken pictures or video, because it is unbelievable. I cleaned my ancient 15 year old carpets (about 1600 sq. feet worth) and actually managed to get them back very near their original color. Shockingly old stains that my kidlets provided that were not removed by the pros or the old cleaners are gone. One caveat here is that I used around 64 ounces of detergent. I started with the professional grade, but used the cheap stuff in the kids'' rooms (smells better anyway). Based on the amount used and lack of discernable difference, I cannot recommend the "professional" cleaner but instead Hoover 40321130 Premium Pet Formula Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce, which has what I would call a lemony scent. If you are scent sensitive, then try Hoover 40321128 Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce. I use the 4-for-3 to really make it a great buy. In any event, I took my time actually read the directions for once and made sure I did several dry passes. I took advantage of the spot clean followed by rinse only for high traffic areas, used the powered hand tool on the stairs, and the upholstery brush on our chairs. All works admirably providing results that made the initial investment worth it. The carpets look amazing and were dry within two hours (aided along by a hot day).

I bought this cleaner yesterday after reading many reviews. My little Bissel steam cleaner stopped vacuuming up the solution after just using it 10 times, so I decided to invest in something I won''t have to replace once a year. I was nervous at first because the cleaner is very expensive compared to other cleaners, and putting it together, I was terrified it would break, as it''s made of plastic which doesn''t feel very strong to me. It was simple to put together and get started, and once I started cleaning, I knew I''d made a good choice. I cleaned the carpet in my 17 month old son''s room, and was shocked at how differently this cleaner worked compared to my Bissel. With my Bissel, an entire gallon of solution was sprayed onto my carpet, but only a few ounces of the solution was vacuumed up. I contacted Bissel and they assured me this was normal, as I have thick carpets. However, the carpets sometimes took 24 hours or more to dry, which is very frustrating. Needless to say, I hardly used the Bissel cleaner as it was a pain to wait an entire day for the carpets to dry. With this Hoover cleaner, though, nearly ALL the solution was vaccumed back out of the carpet! It took about 5 hours for the carpet to dry (very thick carpet!) and the dirty water was BLACK when I was done. I''m disgusted at what a terrible job my Bissel did, and grateful that this cleaner works so well!

What I love about this cleaner:

You don''t have to mix the detergent in water, the machine mixes it for you, making it easier to clean small areas if needed without making an entire gallon of solution

I''m a small woman and this machine is pretty big, but it''s easy to push, I had no problems with it

The LED light on the front reveals conspicuous stains the carpet

The machine rinses and partially dries the carpet, without leaving an overwhelming smell of chemicals in the room

It comes with a 6 year limited warranty. Other Hoover cleaners come with a 1 year warranty. (Hopefully this means that they are confident with this machine, and not that they anticipate problems, I''m quite cynical)

The dirty water bin is VERY easy to clean. My Bissel was terrible to clean, it took me half an hour to clean it because of the design.

The suction is great, it actually vacuums up nearly all the water out of the carpet

It actually gets my carpet clean! Finally!

What I don''t like:

The machine appears to be sturdy, but I''m still a little nervous about all the plastic parts. I keep thinking something might break off if I''m not careful. It''s an expensive machine and I can''t afford for anything to break.

You can use any Hoover detergent in the machine, but the the platinum detergent that comes with it is VERY expensive, much more than Hoover''s original detergent. I''ve contacted them to see what exactly the difference is and if the Platinum detergent actually works better or if the original detergent will do just as well.

Edit: Hoover got back to me and told me that the "Recommended" shampoos for this machine are the Platinum detergent and the Hoover SteamVac Ultra carpet and upholstry detergent. They said the other brands might foam too much and cause problems. The ultra detergent is about half the price of the platinum, so I bought 4 bottles of it with the buy 4, get 1 free deal on amazon. I just used the detergent last night on a fresh chocolate milk stain and it didn''t get it out, but I don''t know if the platinum would have, either. Seems like decent detergent, though! And a lot more affordable!

Extra Edit: After using this cleaner for several months, I still don''t regret buying it because it cleans so well, but I do have a few comments on cleaning it. The rotating brushes on the underside of the cleaner pick up a lot of lint, hair, and gunk that vacuums do not pick up, and the junk gets really nasty in the brushes. I''ve actually had to take my cleaner outside, turn it over, and pull everything out of the brushes. Very gross, but it keeps from spreading on my carpet. Just wanted to mention the fact. This is still a wonderful cleaner and does a great job, but cleaning the brushes is a bit more extensive than other carpet cleaners I''ve owned.

Buy Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner Now

I have dogs so I''m always on the lookout for a better and easier way to clean my carpets. I bought this top-of-the-line Hoover Platinum Carpet Cleaner a few months ago. I used it no more than 5 times for some quick clean ups in the first couple of weeks and was very impressed. It did such a good job making "clean spots" that I took it out on the weekend to do the whole carpet.

I used the cleaner as indicated in the manual, and I used only Hoover Platinum cleaning solutions. After cleaning about 120 square feet, in mid-clean, the steamer stopped dead. There was no problem with the outlet; the machine was totally unresponsive. I cleaned it out, put it away, and tried it again the next morning thinking it might have overheated. Still dead, so I returned it. I expected a lot more from a top-of-the-line product from a reputable company.

My experience may not be typical; the cleaner might have been defective. It has a lot of good features, but it also has drawbacks. Factor in the high cost, the PROs and CONs, and make your own decision.

PROs:

1. Minimal assembly. The upper handle attaches with just two nuts and bolts. That''s it.

2. 6-year warranty.

3. 30 foot power cord.

4. Spot clean function. You can dispense a thin stream of cleaning fluid or a wider spray and then the brushes will scrub at any set in stains for as long as you want before you set it to extract.

5. DualScrub technology. There are two rows of brushes, a SpinScrub brush and a power groomer brush (like a traditional beater bar brush) located right next to each other. What one brush doesn''t get, the other will.

6. MaxExtract technology. This is a heavy machine with significant suction. Despite the weight, it''s easy to push and pull and does not leave the carpet saturated.

7. Tank full / tank empty indicator lights let you know when the dirty water recovery tank is full and when the clean water and soap tanks are empty.

8. Powered hand tool with SpinScrub brushes, upholstery tool, and crevice tool on board. Switching over to use the on-board tools is simple and easy.

9. AutoRinse technology. Depress the trigger and push the machine forward and it dispenses the cleaning solution and scrubs the carpet. Keep pressing the trigger as you pull it back toward you and it extracts the dirty water and dispenses a clean water rinse. Release the trigger and do another pass or two back and forth and the Platinum extracts any liquid in the carpet.

10. The soap and clean water are stored in separate tanks and the machine mixes them automatically depending on the type of cleaning you select. This cleaner actually uses less soap than the other carpet cleaners I''ve owned, which is good since the detergent is quite expensive.

11. A computer-controlled panel that looks like it would be at home on a star ship and lets you know exactly what the machine is doing. Cool and distracting at the same time.

12. The SpinScrub brush bar detaches easily for cleaning.

CONs:

1. The price: $400.

2.The electric blue LED headlight. This is supposed to help illuminate stains, but I found it blinding. The one thing it absolutely did not do was make it easier to see stains. I couldn''t even tell where I had cleaned because everything was bathed in this eerie bright blue light. This feature was beyond annoying.

3. Very expensive cleaning fluid. The detergents made exclusively for the Platinum ("professional strength") come in small 50 ounce bottles and cost between $18-$22.

4. If you don''t use the Platinum formula detergent, the control panel light indicates that the soap tank is empty because it doesn''t "recognize" other detergents. The machine will still work. Hoover says that other less expensive detergents might foam excessively and damage the cleaner.

5. The Direct Heat Drying feature. This just seems like machine exhaust directed at the carpet. It''s supposed to help the carpet dry more quickly, but I don''t see how a couple of quick passes over a wet carpet blowing some hot air will make a difference.

6. This cleaner is heavy, almost 29 pounds before you add water and cleaning solution, which brings the weight up to near 40 pounds.

7. The clean water tank is 128 ounces (1 gallon) and the dirty water recovery tank is 96 ounces (3 quarts). Because it is so small, it requires frequent emptying, and the timing does not coincide with when the detergent and clean water tanks need refilling. Annoying.

8. It''s challenging to get the soap tank, clean water tank, and dirty water recovery tank to slide back on the machine easily. When the clean water tank is full of water, the handle on the tank seems way too flimsy to support the weight of the tank. The bottom of the dirty water tank is not flat and takes a few attempts to get it seated correctly.

9. The soap tank is poorly designed. There are three compartments -the center one that holds the soap and two empty "wings" on either side. It looks like you have more soap in there than you do because 2/3 of the tank is empty. This makes no sense functionally.

10. You are not supposed to store the machine for any length of time with detergent left in the tank, but the design of the tank (fills from a small hole in the top) makes it almost impossible to empty without spilling soap all over the place, and it is way too expensive to waste. Everything about the soap tank is clunky -odd design, wasted space, lack of functionality. This could use a major redesign.

11. It is also challenging to empty the dirty water tank without making a mess. The plastic hinges on the lid are flimsy and a potential weak spot. I accidentally touched the release button for the lid on the dirty water tank while I was carrying it to dump out and it spilled out all over the floor. Draining dirty water out of the tank is so messy that I do it outside and even then, it''s messy. It splatters all over the place.

12. The design of the lid on the dirty water tank and the recovery nozzle assembly (the plastic cover through which the water is extracted and from where the heated air comes) makes it hard to rinse clean without splashing water all over the place. Another outside job.

13. You cannot transport the cleaner by wheeling it in an upright position unless you empty the dirty water recovery tank first. If the machine tips back when you push it and the tank is near full, dirty water will slop out (yuck). This is a major design flaw and should have been corrected before Hoover ever released this product for sale to the public.

14. You can remove the SpinScrub brushes easily for cleaning, but not the beater bar-style brush next to it.

For the very short time the Platinum worked, it was a decent carpet cleaner. I love the automatic clean water rinse and the ease of using the tools. The Platinum detergents do a good job and the machine sips rather than gulps the cleaner, but I''m not convinced the soap does a better job than other available brands and it is very expensive. The electric blue headlight has got to go. Hoover should replace it with a clear LED. A really serious concern is how quickly my machine just stopped working altogether; I hadn''t even owned it for 3 weeks. For the price and considering the Hoover name, I absolutely expected better. Based on my own experience, I just can''t recommend this cleaner.

My wife and I live in a split entry ranch (raised ranch) home. We have been in it since 1994. Wall to wall carpet with the exception of 2 baths, kitchen/dining room and the laundry room.

We put new carpet in the house when we moved in... and then again when we remodeled in 2004. We had a professional rug cleaner do it (previous to the remodel and currently) every spring and fall (upstairs spring, downstairs fall) until we called to make an appointment a few weeks ago and they were out of business.

We decide to research a home cleaner and give that a try instead of looking for a new company. I Googled "carpet cleaners" and the Bissell Pro Heat 2X 9500 seemed to be the one model that kept popping up and had many good reviews.

I go to one of our local department stores to purchase the Bissell... I asked the manager of this department what he thought of the Bissell and he said "since you asked and to be honest with you... the Bissell cleaners are the most returned model here at the store". I then asked what he recommended. He said "I have a Hoover Steam Cleaner myself and it works well and we hardly get any Hoover returns. We also just got this new Hoover Platinum Collection Cleaner in this past weekend."

So I went with the Hoover F8100900 Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner and I did the upstairs and the stairs... and all I can state is "unbelievable on what a FANTASTIC JOB IT DID !!!".

It looks better than when the professional company had done it! It also dried as fast if not faster.

This machine does what it says it will do... and more!

My Hoover Platinum Carpet Cleaner arrived last Saturday and I put it to work in less than an hour. I have and used both Hoover and Bissell in the past and this, by far, exceeded my expectations. I first cleaned all my area and throw rugs and they look like new. It also did a good job on old pet stains on my main carpet. Cleaning the unit is a snap, except for the horizontal roller! Fibers and pet hair wound up around it and I couldn''t clean it without removal. Hoover instructions are silent on how to clean this roller. Being mechanically inclined, I removed 3 screws and detached the roller from it''s bearings and belt drive. After cutting off the rolled up hair and carpet fibers and washing the bristles, I reassembled the roller back into the machine. This part of the cleaning took about 20 minutes. Despite this, I highly recommend the machine. It got out dirt I never dreamed was there!

This wrench is very cheap and should be made of thicker/tougher material as it broke the first time I used it.

It cracked at the narrowest point right next to the handle. The filter housing tends to get extremely tight over

time and this will not do you any good at getting it off. Bad investment.

Hamilton Beach TrueAir Room Odor EliminatorI smoke. There I said it. I smoke in my little office while I work. At least, I don''t drink while I work. Now that would be scary. Anyway, being a smoker doesn''t preclude me from wanting a fresh-smelling space. I keep a glass of white vinegar around my workspace. It does work, just not as well. I also go broke buying those Glade Plug-Ins every few weeks.

So I figured, why not go for broke and try out this little doodad? I admit to being a bit skeptical at first. Could this doodad REALLY eradicate the residual smell that all my other `devices'' couldn''t?

Well...Yes! Granted, the doodad takes three filters, which can be pricey but honestly no more so than stocking up on the Plug-Ins. Also there are times when all I want to smell is fresh air, not fragrance masking the scent (or stench, if you will). By the way, the doodad works so quietly that, at first, I thought it wasn''t working. Honestly, I smoke louder than it operates. Impressive, let me tell you.

A week later, I tested it out. I had a non-smoking friend walk in to my workspace. He asked, "did you stop smoking?" I answered in the only way I knew. I lit a cigarette and smirked.

Well done Hamilton Beach!

My daughter''s room stinks. I don''t mean it has an unpleasant odor, or it has a faint smell. I mean it STINKS. She is a teenager, so I am going to just grin and bear it for the next 18 months until she goes to college. So, what makes her room so offensive? Number one is probably the dog. He is housebroken, just not in DD''s room. Yes, he feels that her room is his toilet. To this end we have removed all the carpet and she only has bare concrete floors. The dog doesn''t seem to mind. She also has a collection of dishes, bowls, and cups containing various foodstuffs in various stages of decomposition. She plans on majoring in biochemistry in college,so I''ll give her the benefit of the doubt here. Then there is her laundry. She is an athletic sprite and she works hard when she works out. Once, she left her clothes in a sealed plastic bag for over a week. We probably could have sold that stank to the government to use in biochemical warfare. Her shoes, socks, shorts, leggings, shirts, jackets, all stink. She keeps them in either the laundry hamper or scattered throughout the floor.

Now I know a lot of you are saying "make that kid clean her darn room!". I hear you Mom, yes you did raise me better than that. BUT my parenting style is "choose your battles". She gets good grades, she holds down a job, she is neat and clean when she goes out in public, and she is a good kid. So I''m not fighting the CLEAN YOUR ROOM fight anymore. I got the Hamilton Beach TruAir Room Odor Eliminator instead.

This thing is magic. Her room is 12 x 15 and stays closed up pretty much all the time. She keeps this little box plugged in and running 24/7. It is on a nightstand and not really centered in the room, but it doesn''t seem to matter. Her room doesn''t smell like The Bog of Eternal Stench anymore. It smells... sort of normal. So for that, I give it two thumbs up!

We also have a great big Honeywell air purifier that is very large and very round and very loud. If I had to guess it''s size I''d say it is as big around as a bar stool and as tall as the average Joe''s knee. It cost over $125 and the filters are crazy expensive. This little Hamilton Beach works better, quieter and cheaper. It''s a no brainer.

And in the Fall of 2013, when my little DD goes off to college, this little gizmo will probably have to go with her.

We moved into an apartment that had some lingering smells that were terrible. I tried everything diffusers, wallflowers, sprays, etc. but nothing seemed to get rid of the smell. I finally broke down and purchased this! It is amazing and quiet. I recommend getting the tobacco filters it gets rid of even more smells than the original filters. I just wish they made one that you didn''t need to plug in. I want to put one in the closet but all of the Hamilton Beach Odor Eliminators need to be plugged in.

If you''re looking for an air circulator/purifier/deodorizer thats small in size, quiet and inexpensive to buy, I''m pleased with this one. Its about 8" tall and 7" on the sides, has two speeds on top, air goes in three of the four sides and out the fourth. Each of those 3 intakes has a flat air filter with charcoal powder in it, they''re keyed to fit so pay attention to which way you put them in by comparing the notch on the filter with the notch inside the filter drawer. There is a small container of febreze similar to the ones that go into the home febreze ''holders'', clear plastic with the oil inside. You insert that and a bump inside the filter holder pokes a hole in it.

On either speed its pretty quiet and makes a gentle ''white noise'' whirring. It uses a "squirrel cage" type fan that moves a good bit of air without a lot of sound. Even on high its a pleasant sound that you could easily sleep through and might even mask other noises.

As with any ''air purifier'', the problem is getting the dust and stuff that needs filtering to the filter. Thats a problem because most particles are heavy and sink shortly after becoming airborn, or are so light they stay up and away from the filter. So I wouldnt expect a cleaner room or relief from a significant allergy problem by using this or most any other air filtration device. What it does do is make the room you put it in smell better and it''ll certainly filter out some allergens and dust that pass through it. The charcoal and febreze definitely reduce odors. I''ve tried this out in the ''cat room'' that has our cat boxes and feeding area. A blindfolded person would have no problems locating our cat room my smell alone, but after about 2 hours the cat room smelled no more. I also tried it in a 3 car garage that has a couple of cars, lawn care gear, the furnace and water heater, plus a bunch of other stuff. It usually smells like musty rubber, gasoline, wet grass and vaguely of dog poop since I pick plenty of that up on the mowers when I''m cutting the grass. After having this little cube running on LOW overnight, all I could smell walking around was dry particle board in our cabinets. If you''ve ever walked into a brand new house thats being built, thats the smell...clean, dry, wood sawdust kind of smell.

It did that with just the charcoal, I havent put the febreze packet in yet.

The downside and expense with this filter is it taking 3 filter pads and a febreze unit probably once every month or so. Most of your large room size models can go a few months without a change but the filters can be $50+. These are less expensive but charcoal only lasts so long. I may look for someone selling sheets of the filtration material and try cutting some to fit, see if I can keep the costs down.

But awesome little filter to put in the animal area, the kids rooms that never get cleaned, the garage/shop, next to a smoker or anywhere else theres a smell.

Watts 520021 RV/Boat Single Exterior Water Filter with Garden Hose Fittings
  • Easy garden hose fittings, perfect for campers and RV''s
  • High grade GAC Filter included
  • reduces chlorine, bad tastes and odors
  • 2.5 GPM flow
  • Meets all plumbing codes

There has been a lot of construction in our area lately. There has been a bit of sediment in the water coming in the mains. This looked like a good way to keep the garden emitters from clogging.

The water pressure in my house is fairly high I''ve seen it burst new garden hoses like balloons. Still, this is hard plastic and shouldn''t have problems. The outlet connection on one of the units leaked a little, needed tightening, and the adapter may need replacing. It''d be nice if the threaded interfaces on these things could be brass instead of plastic.

Otherwise, it''s a very useful unit, I also got one for the RV; it hasn''t leaked yet.

Reliable Corporation EB250 Enviromate Brio Steam Cleaner Save $0.99 Off

Reliable Corporation EB250 Enviromate Brio Steam CleanerThis steamer is great!!It easily lifts off hard old crusty food, that children leave behind after meals, that would take awhile to scrub off and hopefully not take the finish off the floor. The Brio is gentle but powerful,I love the versatility of it,one unit does it all! From floors, to widows, chairs, sinks, bathrooms, beds.....the list goes on...it''s like an indoor power-washer.It disinfects without any chemicals which makes it great with having small children around. The steam lasts in the Brio where in other steamers you run low and have to wait and wait for the steam to rebuild...... Not this one you never run out of steam,it holds 4 cups of water............ Awesome all round steam cleaner, great buy!!!

I used my Brio this past weekend to tackle a few tasks I had been long avoiding....grime in my shower and cleaning my roman shades.

The shower grime came off in minutes....a task I had assumed I couldn''t accomplish with the cleaning supplies I owned. I decided to use the Brio and

it was fast and efficient....

My roman shades I wanted to clean but did not want to take down....way too much effort and time...so instead I steamed them while they were up, and the Brio

did an amazing job!!

So happy with all it can do.....

After the holidays were over, I was able to get a hold of their customer service and they had me try a couple things before they were going to provide me assistance in getting it returned to a service center. One suggestion actually worked. From there I was overall very pleased with the performance. The controls were very easy to use, there was a wide assortment of attachments and the adjustable dial for steam pressure was very useful. I ran it for a few hours that same afternoon and no problems were encountered.

I can''t give it any higher rating than this right now. Judging by appearance and set up; it looks good, the attachments went together very easily and there wasn''t anything complicated in putting the water in and turning it on. Unfortunately I don''t know how well it cleans yet. I don''t want to really say I hate but I can''t really say I love it either. This will be a good test to see how their customer service performs from here.

These are the exact replacement filters for my Watts Pemier Water Filter. Even though I am on City water, these filters make a marked improvement in taste quality. The City''s filters do not catch all the sediment and do add chlorine, however these filters remove that and I end up with very good drinking water. Buying through Amazon saved $$ over buying same product from Watts. Thank you.

I had an older Watts 2 stage water filter system previously and was not impress with the design. The filters were large and cumbersome. When changing filters every half year it always result in a big mess. The O-ring always seat incorrectly the first time and cause it to leak. I had to fuss with it couple of times to get it right.

I purchase this Watts 5 stage filtration system to replace the old one and I am very satisfied with the new design. It is easy to change and replace. You do not even have to shut off the main water supply to change the filters. It is compact under the sink and it make a noticeable taste difference in the drinking water. But be aware this filter does not filter out biological pathogens, if you need that you have to look at different filter system.

Received the wrong filter set from Amazon. This was the first time I was changing the filters so fortunately I recognized the colors were different (as the filter size was the same and would have fit) I received the filters for the reverse osmosis machine Watts Premier 531105 (ASIN: B002YOQ0C2) and not the UF-3 Ultra. Pack was actually labeled wrong with a sticker on the outside of the clear plastic wrap. Was able to return it, just make sure you check carefully (and match product numbers) before installing.

Omnipure Q5633 Replacement Filter Cartridge

Omnipure Q5633 Replacement Filter CartridgeThis Carbon Filter is the most appropriate I have found, as a prefilter, upstream of an RO Filter. Since an RO filter is very delicate, it is indispensible for the input to the RO to be free from large particles as possible. Otherwise the RO would be unnecessarily overloaded, and would work at a much lower efficiency than it normally can. For those who are adept at working with mechanical systems, it is possible to purchase individual parts, and put them together. This way one can install a system that suits the specific potable water quality, locally. A lot of unnecessary parts could also be saved. Many other prefilters that target a specific contaminent could also be added, as well as an afterfilter to purify even the output of the RO. In terms of a prefilter, I have found this type, quite sufficient. The 12" type is specially more desirable, since it has mor capacity, in other words it lasts longer. According to product specification at the manufacturer''s site, I found this brand more suitable than others. Of course, that depends on how much one is willing to apportion for this system, and what qualiry of potable water one is after. The lower micron rating is a finer filter, and outputs cleaner water and therefore more expensive. However, to take advantage of the RO filter the most, it is much better to provide as a pure water as possible at the inlet.

Rainshow''r Series 3000 Crystal Ball for the Bath Save 36% Off

Rainshow''r Series 3000 Crystal Ball for the BathFirst of all this product definately works! I can tell a difference in the health of my skin and hair after only a few uses and i can even open my eyes under the bath water. something i could not do before because they were burned by the chlorine. However, this product is a little more trouble than its product description lets on. According to the description: "The ball can be swished in the water for 2 minutes or placed under the faucet" but the instruction manual clearly states: "The crystal ball was not designed to be hung from the bath tub faucet." Also, it states that the ball must be swirled through the tub for 5 to 8 minutes before entering. yes, sit by the tub and play with this ball for about 8 minutes every time you want to take a bath! Also, if you want to take a bubble bath or use bath oils or espon salts, you must wait until the tub is filled and the crystal ball is used before adding them, which pretty much means no bubble baths, how is the bubble bath going to foam if you can''t poor it under the running water? Don''t get me wrong this product works, just make sure you have a few extra minutes before your bath every time you want to use it.

I have CONSIDERED bath / shower filters in the past but never really looked into the issues with chlorine in water you bathe / shower with until recently. It may seem logical but I was shocked when I learned that your skin can absborb more chlorine through your skin than what you would by drinking chlorinated water! Here I was concerned about the water we drink so we got a Kangen Water system and yet I did nothing to the water we clean our bodies and soak in.

The FIRST time I used this, I noticed a difference in the water. Even my son noticed a difference in his skin, telling me that it was no longer itchy from the ''hot'' (warm) water. It''s hard to conceptualize if you''ve never experienced it before but it turns bath water into ''silky'', smooth bath water. As I was swirling the ball around before my children got in their bath, I noticed that just by sticking my hand in the now dechlorinated water, that my hand was SMOOTH and soft without any residue or oiliness.

If any of you have ever drank 9.5 alkaline Kangen water, water spun for an hour in a Vitalizer Plus machine or even bottled EON water, you''ll know the difference in the ''texture'' and ''feel'' of the water. It''s silkier, smoother, sweeter and ''thicker''...almost like a fine, full bodied wine. The TEXTURE (obviously we didn''t drink it) of this water is almost identical.

It makes your hair and skin totally smooth and silky! In fact, I loved it so much that the very next day after using this for the first time, I bought myself a shower filter!! And now, I''ll be buying a shower filter for every shower head in our home.

I have used both (shower filter and bath filter) now and personally, I THINK that the bath filter creates a smoother, silkier and thicker water because you can leave the ball in for longer vs the water simply running through the shower at a much faster rate. With that said, I still do love both and will NEVER go back!!! :-) In fact, if we travel, this ball is coming with us!!

For interested individuals: I bought an Aquasana shower filter...I bought the version that ALSO removes chloramines as well as chlorine. It''s my UNDERSTANDING that some cities use both chlorine AND ammonia to create chloramines because it''s cheaper than using all chlorine. It''s also my understanding that chloramines are more toxic for our bodies than just plain chlorine, although I am not thrilled at the prospect of chlorine leaching into our pores either!

YES, you DO have to take a few minutes to swirl the ball around in the water but it''s no big deal...I swirl it, then my children take turns swirling it then they get in. The directions DO say that you have to swirl the ball around for 5-8 minutes and is not effective if you try to simply hold it under the water spout because the water passes through it too quickly but considering the difference in our skin, it''s worth it!!!

I was in a hurry today and I put the ball in the water as the bath was filling up then we started swirling it in the water when the water was almost full. No biggie.

Get it, you will NOT regret it!! Oh! and this vendor ships fast too!! :-)

EDIT TO REVIEW / UPDATE on Jan 17, 2009. Since posting this, I have learned a lot about water filteration systems for drinking and bathing. While I still do love this bath filter, I don''t feel that it provides ADEQUATE filteration from the chlorine. Since approx 70-80% of chlorine disappates into the air when it comes out of the faucet, it turns into a toxic gas that quickly spreads but is slow to degrade. So although your water now has approx 20-30% chlorine that it had that this bath filter could take care of, you are now breathing fumes from the chlorinated water. So although I still like this bath filter as it makes the water super soft, I no longer feel that it''s adequate to rely on to filter out gaseous chlorine vapors. If you have any questions regarding drinking & shower filters, feel free to contact me.

DO not buy this. It doesn''t work. I wasn''t noticing any differences in my skin and decided to buy a pool chlorine test kit ($10) to see if it was actually removing the chlorine. It wasn''t!! Tested water both before and after the ball had been in the water for 30 minutes and pulled it around numerous times. Before the test my tap water chlorine was at a level 4 and after using the filter for 30 minutes it was at a level 3. It should have been at a level ZERO. I wouldn''t have believed it had I not done the chlorine test myself. Tested the filter on my water purifier after that and luckily that showed up with zero chlorine. Crummy way to waste $30. And we bought three of them. =(

I have a lot of chlorine in my water and found these chlorine balls that seemed like a great idea. The way they desribe them is that you hang it over the spigot so that the water runs through the ball then after your tub is full, swish it around for 2-3 minutes. Well, the instructions say to not let the water run through it and you have to swish it around in your tub for up to 8 minutes. I did this for the first few baths then just didn''t want to deal with 8 minutes of my life swishing the ball around. When I did take the time, I did notice a difference in my water but it''s just an inconvenience. I have a garden tub so I always think I have to swish a little longer because I have more water than the average tub. It''s been sitting on the side of my tub now unused for 3 months.

It''s okay not really sure how well it does with the chlorine without testing the water. If you follow the instructions of "dragging" the ball in the water for 5-8 minutes it gets old after awhile.

Those of us who live in areas with hard water or iffy public water systems are generally aware of the benefits of filtration. A reverse osmosis system can do a good job of removing sediments, many toxic chemicals and a reasonable assortment of creepy-crawlies. Over the last several years, prices have come down sufficiently that these systems are moving into more homes than ever. If you''ve got room under the sink (and such a system takes a good chunk of room) it''s worth considering. Installation in a reasonably new plumbing system is generally simple. If you''re naturally the home handy-person, you won''t have too much trouble. Older systems might pose a little more challenge, but the kit comes with a fair assortment of adapters and such. I have to add here that the kit shorted me a few small parts that I had to find at the local hardware store. A little better QC on the kit-packing phase would have been appreciated. This is the reason for four stars instead of five. The important thing about installation is to know your skill level. If you think you can do it, you probably can. If you''re not sure, the best choice might be to call the plumber.

I purchased this system to replace an older R.O. system which could no longer be serviced. In such a case, there are already holes drilled and positions chosen. They don''t always match the ideal layout for this system. But I found ways to integrate old and new and had the basic installation done in about 3 hours of work. It then takes a full day to charge and flush the system. The final water flow is strong and copious and the water carries no taste--a far cry from the calcium and sediment-laden water that went in.

Anxiously purchasing this time and could not wait for great tasting water. The water lines leaked terribly. Went to local hardware store hoping for a fix. Still had problems. No enough connectors in bag. Water line not long enough. Drain hose trickles water into drain and is quite noisy. Would not purchase if I had a second chance.

Pretty good reverse osmosis system. Easy setup, just follow the colored tubes. No leaks after setup. Just make sure you use teflon tape for the parts required only (instructions will tell you where) After 2 full tank flushes, water tester read 23-25ppm. My other RO system (different brand) in other house reads 15''ish ppm, but thats had its filter changed a few months ago. Hopefully after more usage or another flush, it''ll go down a little more.

One complaint i had with this RO system was that the included faucet is pretty annoying as the air gap goes through it. So whenever the RO system is working, it''ll make a whirring/ whining noise and i could hear the water going through. So i just went to home depot and bought a T adapter, by passed that and went straight into the drain and used the air gap for the disoposal /dishwasher. So one star off for that.

Other than that, water tastes like drinking water.

This RO system is of top quality. I replaced my older unit, with this one, and am very satisfied. I had a small issue when installing. I contacted support, and they got back to me right away. It is very easy to install. The RO system that I replaced cost 3 times as much as the Watts, and was of less quality. I highly recommended this RO system.

Mavea 106832 Maxtra Tassimo FilterThis filter seats perfectly in the Brita Maxtra pitcher I bought while stationed in Germany. It works well at taking out the heavy chlorine flavor of the city water in our house.

This is a basic filter for the more advanced Bosch Tassimo brewers. Using it requires the plastic insert to hold the filter (Bosch part # 646364). If your Bosch didn''t come with a filter, and has a square water tank like this one : Bosch TAS4511UC you can google around and order just that part direct from the Bosch e-store. (Note, it will NOT work for brewers with the more rounded tanks like this : Bosch TAS2001UC )

It is easy to insert, works fine, and helps if you have water quality issues.

The question is, do you need filtered water at all... If your tap water is fine and tastes good, then you may not need to filter the water. If however you filter your tap water, or drink bottled, then it could help. I recommend making the coffee without using a filter, then with using a filter, and seeing if you can taste the difference. (getting someone else to brew the coffee for a "blind" taste test is even better.)
