ALkaH2o KEI 501 Alkaline Water Ionizer Save 33% Off

ALkaH2o KEI 501 Alkaline Water Ionizer 5 Plate FDA Approved Safe Plastics 7 Presets Limited Lifetime Warranty ELT Certified Safe Self CleaningI bought this unit as a counter top unit although it can be installed under the counter according to the seller. My wife and I love it! The PH range is excellent as good as another brand we have that we borrowed from a friend used which was 4 times as much money. We have researched all the top names and honestly found this 5 plate unit to be an exceptional value. This will be our second product from this seller and the service and support have been exactly what we expect from an Amazon seller. A really great value.

This is my first ionizer so these comments are probably general. I used a digital ph meter for these readings.

1 I wish I knew they were "on" as long as it was getting water. I''m using a shutoff valve to turn on/off.

2 If you want a huge range of ph it would be worth while to get one with more plates. With the water on 100% your looking at +-1PH. The slower the water the better it does. I''ve seen readings with this product as high as 10.05ph (+2.5ph) but the water was so slow that if your trying to cook with it are you really going to spend 30+ minutes waiting to fill a pot? Luckily I only needed enough to make coffee. This product can get to 9 pretty easily. I will probably do two shutoff valves so its always around 9.

Recommend at least the 7 plate version if you need a lot of water at 10. If your just drinking water this version is good enough.

Cloer 52 12-Cup Bitterness Eliminating Coffee Maker Save 13% Off

Cloer 5218NA 12-Cup Bitterness Eliminating Coffee Maker, Stainless Steel/BlackI''m a bit of a nut when it comes to coffee but flavor is most important to me. For over ten years I have been roasting my own. I also use a burr grinder the second most important step in coffee flavor. The third step of course is brewing which requires the water temperature to be about 200 degrees F when it hits the coffee grounds.

I have a vac pot which guarantees the temperature is correct due to the fact it has to get that hot for the water to get to the top. But it takes time and requires cleanup. I have a French Press which is also great for flavor but requires clean up and to some can be a bit muddy. For weekday use when time is limited first thing in the morning I have had a Technivorm which is the only brewer certified by the national coffee association for its temperature. But for brewing coffee it fails for how expensive it is. It is built more like a backyard still. I prefer a cup of coffee so I''ve never owned an espresso machine. I''ve been searching for a new brewer for quite some time until I came across the Cloer.

My first interest in the Cloer was its maintaining correct temperature which is very important. I don''t have a thermometer that would accurately measure the temp but the flavor is as good as the other brewing options that I have.

I have always filtered the water. The Cloer accepts a water filter model MAXTRA by Mavea.

It has a builtin timer so that you know when to replace the filter.

There are two sets of markers in the water reservoir to determine the correct level using a filter or not.

The basket swings out after pressing the button on top and is removable for cleaning. It will stop the flow so that you can remove the carafe during brewing.

You can brew up to 12 cups.

There is an automatic setting to turn on at a specific time but I will never use it as I prefer fresh ground coffee (immediate).

The brewer will shut off after two hours. The digital readout counts out how much time has passed after the brewing has stopped.

You can easily adjust the warming plate temperature by simply pressing the up and down buttons. There are indicators on the display. This is a nice feature as the plate on most brewers gets too hot.

This is a great little brewer with some nice features that isn''t over priced, easy to use and brews at the correct temperature!

I compared the new Cloer 12-cup coffee maker to my go-to machine, a Bunn ThermoFresh, using my favorite beans, freshly ground in a Breville conical burr grinder; filtered water and paper filters in each machine. Cloer''s machine produced a cup of coffee with more body and more complex and lasting flavor, which I believe is due to better extraction from the bean during brewing. Cloer uses a ''pulse'' brewing system due to the way its two-tank hot water system works: cold water is taken from a reservoir about a half-cup at a time and heated to 200 F. before it is released through the grounds. This results in a more stable water temperature throughout the brewing cycle in comparison to machines that heat the water all at once and then begin cooling down until their heater cycles on again. The Cloer machine has water measurements marked on the inside of the tank and on the stainless steel strip on the control panel, with cups of coffee marked on the glass carafe as well. I find this handy for making a partial pot of beverage. Unlike the Bunn, which has a stainless steel thermal carafe, the Cloer machine includes a warming plate (temperature adjustable by set levels)to keep the coffee uniformly hot for the life of the brew.

The Bunn machine also has a two-tank system but its system serves a different purpose: a full pot of water is heated and then continuously showered through the grounds. Meanwhile, a separate tank of cold water is waiting to be drawn into the system in case a second pot needs to be brewed. The Bunn system is fussy in comparison to Cloer: to get a new pot of coffee out of the Bunn, I always have to put a new pot of cold water into the first tank. For me, this leaves day-old filtered and once-heated water sitting in the system, waiting for me to make a pot of coffee that will never be truly ''fresh.'' It is not that Bunn''s engineers are ''lame''; their machine is designed for holding hot water all the time and for being on day and night. Their first pot of coffee can be made without waiting for water to come up to temperature, which can be an advantage getting ready for work at home or in keeping the coffee flowing at the office.

As with so many things today, coffee machines are made in China to engineering specifications from elsewhere. Cloer is engineered in Germany. The materials used in making the machine are ''upmarket'' where plastics are concerned, having a pleasant ''soft touch.'' Parts seem hefty and solid and tolerances on the coffee maker for fit are good. As with all button displays/controls, it helps to read the users manual to set the machine up. The process is not tricky, just different. Where things need to come apart for cleaning they do and they give the assurance that they will fit securely back together as well.

NEW DATA: THE ORIGINAL CARAFE HAS BEEN REPLACED! This new carafe features a simple glass pot with a ''typical'' plastic top that doesn''t have any place for water vapor or coffee liquid to seep into before it leaks all over your tablecloth. Materials are still up-market but now the design works! Many of us found that the original carafe developed a small but annoying leak around the rim or spout. This did not make the machine unusable but minor mopping was required. I passed this problem on to Salton, the machine''s importer, and they ''kicked the problem up the line'' and I now have a new and completely functional carafe, provided free of charge. I am advised that future shipments will include the improved pot.

I have owned many coffee makers over the years, but this one is perfect. The design is amazing; simple, beautiful, easy to use, functional. The coffee it produces is so smooth and bitterness free, that my husband and I talk about it every morning since we bought it. The coffee it makes is "head and shoulders" above any coffee maker I have ever owned.

The carafe pours without spilling. the reservoir is easy to access and even has a light. I am so glad I spent the extra money to buy it. It was so worth it. I had a Krupp before which i paid $83.00 for and it was a disaster.(Thankfully I took it back, and I rarely take stuff back) It dripped, the reservoir was difficult to pour into and it got coffee grounds all inside the machine and was difficult to clean, and the coffee was bitter.

I only use the best coffee and grind my own beans as it is such a treat to have great coffee in the morning. This coffee pot make the best ever!!! I just bought a second one for our office.

I have been looking for a good coffee maker for a long time. This is my 5th machine, well the search is over. The coffee smells good brewing and tastes even better. I was getting a bitter aftertaste from my coffee I tried all different brands, did cleanings, nothing helped.

This company has won all types of awards all over the world for its''superior quality. I can see why. It looks very modern on the counter but more importantly it makes great coffee.

When you get it home all you have to do is wash the carafe and the filter holder. Plug in and set the time, run a water only cycle then you are ready to brew. After all my searching I wasn''t holding my breath that this would be fantastic but as it turns out it is. You can use an optional water filter in it to remove impurities in you water if you choose. It is not included. I have a PUR faucet filter so mine is getting double filtered.

The secret to this great coffee is in the two heating chambers that make the water a perfect 200 degrees as it flows through 18 shower type holes. This is the perfect temperature for great coffee. I never knew what the problem was just that all the models I tried had the same problem bitter aftertaste.

It uses the #4 cone filters or you can use a gold or metal cone #4 filter (not included).

I had heard that the pour spout spills every time. I have not had this happen even using my left hand and I am right handed. I did notice you have to tip it more before it starts to pour but after the second time you are used to it. I really can not find any cons on this machine. It does all it says it will do and looks good doing it. I highly recommend this model to anyone who enjoys a great cup of coffee.

This truly does make better coffee. My husband and I were both impressed by vast improvement in the taste of our coffee while using the same kind of grounds as before with our old coffee-maker. That alone makes it worth getting. But we have found two things that would greatly improve the coffemaker. The first thing is, as mentioned by other reviewers, that when you pour out your coffee, you have to be very careful not to spill a little. Our coffeemaker is next to the sink so we just pour over the sink but it is a nuisance. But our biggest problem is that the machine shuts off after 2 hours. We acknowledge that there would be degradation of the flavor of the coffee over time but most coffeemakers don''t shut down for 4 hours and on lazy Saturday mornings, it would be nice to have coffee for longer than 2 hours.

The Cameo stainless cleaner was easy to use and did a great job removing "tarnish" from my flatware. We have very hard water and the stains on my knives were just awful. I was unable to find this product or anything similar locally and was very pleased with this product.

Cameo has no competition in the Stainless Cleaning department. We use this product to keep our stainless kitchen sink looking like brand new. Procedurally we use 400 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper to remove scratches, sanding in the same direction as the factory sander. After rinsing we apply the Cameo cleaner to the wet sink and polish. Our sink is 10 years old and looks like it was installed last month.

H2o Mop X5 As Seen on Tv

H2o Mop X5 As Seen on TvThe good: 1) its great if you have to clean without a lot of chemicals (pets, asthma, etc).

2) the attachments do an awesome job around award fixtures like the back of the sink faucet or behind a toilet.

3) the steam mop got dirt up that my swiffer mop didn''t

4) it got old tea stains out of my laminate counter.

5) I got the extra floorpads when I ordered from HSN. It is worth it! You can have a clean pad on standby while one is in the laundry.

The not great: 1) the attachments aren''t easy to change, and you have to give the nozzle a few minutes to cool before you can change out. So you sort of have to plan your attack in stages based on the easiest to change (floor mop head) to the longest time to cool (steam jet nozzle) to save time. This is contrary to the "cleaning top to bottom" method.

2) the long floor mop handle doesn''t feel sturdy/strong.

I feel like I have to be careful pushing it across the floor like if I push to hard it might snap.

3) when steaming your floors, they will be a little wet since this is not a water extraction floor steamer. I was just a little surprised by the wetness, but it isn''t too big a deal.

4) the mop uses water very quickly. Not a big deal, just plan out your attack so you can refill at convenient break points in your cleaning routine.

Overall I love this mop and use it twice a week. It is worth it. My least favorite thing is the less than sturdy handle.

I had the original H2O mop (steamboy mop) about 4 years ago. My mom got it for me as a gift for cleaning our house for my newborn twins. It was the most awesome thing I had for cleaning!! I was in love. Then after 3 years of use, it died :( I tried to find a replacement, but the H2O mop was no longer made. I later found out that was because they were developing the X5.

From the first infommercial, I was sold. I bought it and was so happy the day it came. I tried all the attachements out. The clothing steamer will not get much use in my house.

The jet nozzle works great for cracks and crevices, but the steam is not always consistantly strong, so you have to wait a minute for it to catch up.

The nylon and metal scrubby brushes didn''t impress me at all. I did like to use the metal one for the baked on grime on my glass top stove, but otherwise, not a lot of uses.

Window attachment was way more trouble than it was worth. I did 2 windows and really had enough.

So my main use is for floor cleaning and I was OK with that. For that I would buy it any day of the week.

After 4 months of use (2-3x a week), it one day stopped working. I went through the troubleshooting and nothing worked. Called CS and they agreed that I did all I could and they would send out a replacement heat unit. FOR $13.90 SHIPPING AND PROCESSING FEE. Are you kidding me????? 4 months after using it and I have to pay for a defective item replacement on a $120 unit? She told me that the warranty stated that shipping would be extra for replacement item (later I did locate my warranty that came with it and there was no such stipulations). I paid it and the new unit came within a weeks time.

Flash forward 4 weeks, it stopped working again. Now I am storing this thing empty (which I did not do with the first one, but it recommends it in the instructions), and I run vinegar through it every other week. Nothing. I do not have hard water, so it''s not a mineral buildup thing, I have done everything perfect. I am beyond upset with this purchase. I have gone from recommending this product to everyone to hazarding people from wasting their money on this POC. DO NOT BUY!!!

Gosh, it looked so great on that infomercial! Despite some bad Amazon reviews, I trusted the good ones and shelled out $110 for this item. It came quickly, I''ll say that, but went downhill from there. I 1st tried it on some mildew in my shower. Had no effect at all! Ok, they advertised it would take the scale off shower doors so i tried that. Nothing! I have all laminate floors, but they said that''s ok, so I tried that next. I will say that it seemed to do a really nice job on the floor... but for hours I had a funny smell in the house like cocoa butter so I figured it was no good for laminate as it must be steaming the finish right off it. Still searching for some merit to this item I used it to "dust". Well, that''s a joke. So much more cumbersome than picking up a duster... overall a drippy mess! As others have stated, the handle is wobbly and I found it very awkward to use the hand held attachments. All in all, a piece of junk. So I called the number listed on the ''money back guarantee'' and they willingly gave me a return number. Dopey me, i thought this would cover shipping, but NO. I shelled out another $15 to return the item. All in all I wasted $25 in shipping on this item. Believe me, JUST DON''T BE TEMPTED because you''ll regret it too!

We recently bought a house that has not been cleaned thoroughly for a while. So I started using the handheld part of the steam mop to clean bathrooms and kitchen cabinets... especially all the little groves and corners that you would hardly get into with even a toothbrush or Q-tip came out completely clean. I even wiped down the bathroom walls with it. I am not so convinced with the handle. When cleaning floors the whole thing feels wobbly and I am not so sure how long before it breaks.

After doing a lot of research on steam mops and watching the informercial on the H20 Mop X5, I decided to purchase it. In fact I purchased 1 for me and 1 for my daughter. I was shocked when I opened the box. It was very small and flimsey....I decided to give it a chance and tried it that night. It was very loud and noisy and it left my floor soak and wet. I immediatly called customer service and was very fortunate, they arranged for UPS pick it up and refunded my full amount including shipping. I now own the Shark steam mop and I absolutely love it.

Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker

Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee MakerThe machine works OK. There''s nothing wrong with it. But basically it makes what I call "truck-stop coffee." This is coffee for the non-discriminating coffee drinker. Now I''m not a coffee snob I''ll drink truck stop coffee but I don''t want it at home! I''ve been making coffee with a burr grinder and a cone-style filter since the 1970''s and I''ve grown used to a cup of gourmet coffee in the morning. When my Krups Grind and Brew died (excellent gourmet coffeemaker by the way), I decided to give the Cuisinart a try because it was cheaper.

I''ve had this coffeemaker for two weeks and I''m already shopping for a replacement. First of all, it uses flat-bottom "basket" style coffee filters (Mr. Coffee-type filters), not the cone-style filters that are well known to produce better coffee. This info was not in any of the online descriptions or reviews. Secondly, it does not have a grinder--not like the Capresso of Krups machines. Instead, it has a rotary blade chopper. Again, this info did not show up in any of the online descriptions or reviews. A blade chopper is not as good as a burr grinder, but you can still make a decent pot of coffee with a blade chopper as long as you are skillful in using it. With the Cuisinart, though, you have no control of the chopper so your skill or lack thereof is immaterial. Read on.

To make a pot, put a fresh filter into the basket and pour water into the reservoir. Easy and straightforward. Next, lift the coffee chopper from the top of the machine, pry open the top with a fingernail then add the correct amount of beans to the chopper. This means you have to measure the beans for every pot. With both Krups and Capresso grind and brew machines, you add beans in bulk to the hopper (no measuring) then you instruct the machine how much coffee to grind for each pot--much simpler. Then close the lid and place the chopper in the machine. Sounds simple, but I can''t do it without having to go get my reading glasses. That''s because there''s a small round piece that needs to fit over a pin-type plunger and it just doesn''t want to fit unless you get it just right.

Next you press the start button and what happens is the blades of the chopper start chopping the beans and at the same time centrifugal force makes all the beans whirl around inside the chopper. Part of the chopper wall consists of a perforated metal screen. As soon as a piece of bean is small enough to squeeze thru this screen, it does, and goes into the chute that leads to the basket. If this screen had a finer mesh, the coffee would just clog it up. So the mesh is fairly course and as a result you have coarse grounds. Coarse grounds in a Mr. Coffee-style flat basket. Bad, bad, bad. With both Krups and Capresso, you can choose a fine or coarse grind or anything in between.

Then the water is heated, flows into the basket, and drips into the pot. Steam fills the inside of the machine including the inside of the chopper where it turns any remaining coffee grounds (dust) into mud. As a result, the chopper gets gummed up with coffee remains. This is not a big deal, but it adds another step to the care and feeding of this machine because you have to clean the chopper in the sink after 3 or 4 pots.

Are there any pluses? Yes. The pot has a good dripless spout. And the hot plate keeps the coffee in the pot at a good temperature. Also, you don''t have to use the built-in chopper. You can grind your owns beans, put them in the basket, then brew. But that kind of defeats the purpose of having a grind and brew coffeemaker, doesn''t it?

What you have then is a machine that not only makes rather ordinary coffee, it''s also less convenient to use than its two main competitors because of the measuring of the beans and the cleaning of the chopper. Of course, it''s cheaper than the competitors. Once again the old adage "you get what you pay for" holds true.

After having several drip coffee makers (both inexpensive and VERY expensive), this is the best for the following reasons:

low noise grinder

makes a full pot in less time

easy to clean

at a glance look at remaining coffee (can''t do this with a carafe)

reasonable price, good warranty

Best of all, it makes a delicious cup of coffee

Buy Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker Now

The old $10 Proctor-Silex coffee maker in our office here in Afghanistan had seen better days. And even though we used bottled water and ground our own beans, the flavor was just barely passable. A few people I knew had a Cuisinart unit similar to this one and all said it was a darned good maker of the java. So I convinced the other coffee chronics to chip in with me and buy this as an office morale booster. We weren''t prepared for the huge difference in coffee quality that we got. It was like our taste buds had taken the last several months off and suddenly returned to duty.

This coffee maker produces some of the best coffee that you can find this side of a mom-and-pop barista joint. Every pot is consistently made and always delicious. Plus it''s easy enough to use that we haven''t yet dorked up making a pot. The 12-cup carafe is big enough to handle the chore of serving four serious drinkers. The built in bean grinder does a perfect job pulverizing the beans. Although the instructions say to clean out the grinder after each use, we usually do it once a day (about 3-4 pots) and haven''t had any issues.

This maker excels in one are that most people will not have to worry about: keeping out dust. Afghanistan is covered in a fine, talcum powder dust that gets into most everything. The fit and finish of this Cuisinart is really good; we''ve had no problem with it sneaking into the grinder, reservoir or basket areas.

So we are completely satisfied with this unit. And yes, our morale has been boosted considerably.

The Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind and Brew is by far the best coffee machine I have ever owned. The coffee is so fresh with the grind feature and the water is a great temparature. This machine has saved me hundreds of dollars in two short months as I get the highest quality coffee in my own kitchen. I feel bad for Tim Hortons and Dunkin Donuts as they have lost a customer. I highly recommend this product! It is so good, I purchased a second for my parents who are thrilled with the product.

Want Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker Discount?

Purchased this product thinking that I would be able to make good coffee, and that I would be able to control the strength of the resulting product. Was I wrong! This coffee maker can barely make 20 ounces (two and a half eight ounce cups) of moderately strong coffee. The coffee grinding chamber takes very very few beans--close to 1/2 a cup ( 4 ounces). When you use the coffee maker, vapor from the filter housing gets to the beans compartment and it becomes noticeably wet creating a paste of the ground coffee remains left in the chamber. Another issue I have is with the programming. Once you put the date and time and set the program to run it works fine, but if you by accident unplug the coffee maker, the program is lost, then you have to go through the tedium of entering it again. Yes, if Cusinart''s engineers had been moderately intelligent or not trying to cut corners, they could have placed a small battery inside the device to keep the program going regardless of whether it was plugged in or not.

Even more tragic: If you decide to use ground beans to make coffee, you must be careful they are not too ground, or coffee will overflow and drip down all over the sides of the filter housing and make a mess on your counter top! Yes this machine can make "12 cups" ( = 9 eight ounces cups) of extremely watery coffee resembling *lightly* brewed tea. Honestly, this machine is certainly not suited for a mildly sophisticated coffee drinker or even for someone who prefers Starbucks coffee over, say McDonald''s coffee.

In passing, let me add that if the engineers that designed this product had been only slightly smarter they would have made the compartment where the coffee is ground twice larger in order to allow the user to tweek the strongness of the final product; they would have also allowed the tweeking of the level of grinding desired. Of course, this would have also required a larger filtering compartment, something that could have been easily done. This coffee maker as it is now is an exercise in poor design and an additional embarrassment to Cuisinart.

I usually get Pur water filters for my faucet. The water tastes delicious (especially the 3-stage one), but I''ve had to replace two of them because they break after a few months. A hole will form usually on the red area that tells you when to replace the filter (water spews everywhere). I wanted to try a different brand that won''t break after a few months. This brand is more affordable and it was very easy to install. The water definitely tastes better than plain tap water and does its job to filter out bad things. The Neutra Sul is a little more expensive, but the results are much more consistent than with bleach. With the bleach I would sometimes get the sulfur odor breaking through, and would have to increase the concentration to a point where I could smell the chlorine. Breakthough odor doesn''t happen with the Neutra Sul and there''s no nasty chlorine smell or residue. It''s easy enough to monitor for excess peroxide in the water by looking for effervescence.

I have owned the GE filtration system for over 5 years now and replace the filters about every 6 months. I had not previously been able to locate these filters for less than 35 dollars anywhere. Additionally, there were only a few retailers that carried this model filter in stock with regularity. Amazon to the rescue. Same filters, for less money. Also, if you are on the fence about purchasing a GE water filtration system, don''t be. I have very hard well water, very iron rich, and even with a softener the taste wasn''t ideal. The water coming out of this GE system tastes every bit as good as bottled water.

Want GE FQSLF Dual Stage Twist and Lock Under Counter Water Filtration System Replacement Filters (Lead/Cyst) Discount?

Bought these for my smart water system to replace the GXRLQR filters that seem just about impossible to find (for a good price). The form factor is exactly the same. However, if you look at the top of the filter, you''ll notice that the inlet hole is much larger on the FQSLF filter than with the GXRLQR filter. This initially caused some problems with my filtration system. The hoses started to rattle and the water jetted out of the spout, only to become aerated, then dwindle down. I closed off the cutoff valve for the filter, undid the filter, then re-engaged it. Next I opened up the spigot and slowly opened the cut-off valve. I stopped when I got sufficient flow though the spigot. So far, it seems to be working well. If it continues to perform as such, I just found a cheaper replacement for my filters!

GE makes their replacements kind of confusing. You have undersink replacements with the FQSLF, you have inline with the FQSLF, and the fridge ones with the FQSLF. Ordering is an extreme chore. They like to stop producing certain models and then you end up having to wonder which replacement will fit your system.

These ones fit well for my older model undersink filtration system. The value beats anything in the store and the shipping was quick. These also last six months, so much better than using a brita filter! :)

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist TechnologyI purchased this ultrasonic humidifier a year ago for my two boys, who seem to always be congested either with colds or seasonal allergies or due to the dry air from our A/C. Prior to having this one, we went through a couple humidifiers (either warm or cool mist) a season because they either broke down, didn''t do a good enough job, leaked, or were too difficult to clean. This humidifier works like a DREAM and is so very VERY easy to clean. I love that I can turn the dial to output the desired amount of mist. It''s super quiet, too. I know others have said they''ve had problems with theirs being too noisy or becoming noisy after awhile, but I have not experienced that problem. I''ve also read that some complain about the demineralization cartridge not working for as long as stated or costing too much. I can agree and sympathize there, but folks...you don''t have to buy that cartridge. Just use distilled water. It does the same job, and you can pick up the gallong jugs from your grocery store. While this humidifier IS easy to clean, the manufacturer recommends you do clean the water tank every two to three weeks as well as the water inlet and ultrasonic nebulizer, which are behind a panel that pops off. Don''t forget that little bit of maintenance; it''s important. I have to say, I LOVE that there are no mold issues with this humidifier compared to other cheaper ones I have used. All in all, after having gone through a multitude of humidifiers before purchasing this one I would recommend it hands down. Best humidifier purchase yet!

With winter upon us, my wife and I initially bought a standard humidifier that boils the water into a warm vapor. It worked well at getting the air "moist" and raising the temperature of the room a bit but having to refill AND clean the thing on almost a daily basis was way too annoying. It also made a small, but decent amount of noise when the water was bubbling. In the end, the tank got a small crack which threw off the pressure, so it leaked everywhere.

Fast forward to our new Sharper Image humidifier. Filled up the tank, plugged it in, and instantaneous mist! I probably played with the thing for 5min just amazed at the ultrasonic technology. There literally is just a tiny plate that vibrates with such a high frequency that it creates this misty, fog like stream of vapor. The different level settings work out well to it''s not a simply high, med, low it''s a turn dial so it''s easy to get it at the exact output you''re looking for. We''ve found that a mid-high level will keep the bedroom at a nice humidity and the tank lasts about 3-4 days (running only at night). Noise level is almost silent. The best part? The inside doesn''t get a disgusting since it''s ultrasonic so no more daily cleaning! After a month of use I opened the thing up to scrub it down, and there was barely any residue or film to clean. The negatives? You will get the "white dust" around the room if you don''t put demineralization tablets in a on monthly basis, and having a cool mist can be a little chilling in the winter until your heating catches up with it. All in all we highly recommend this humidifier.

The GOOD:

-Super quiet

-Tank lasts 3-4 days when run at night, med level

-Minimal to no cleaning required

-Keeps our air humid but not saturated

-Very customizable level

-Night light for the kids

The BAD:

-Need demineralization tablets or white dust becomes a problem

-Cool mist in winter is brisk

-Nasty green sticker on the front is ugly and takes time to take off

Buy The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier Now

I bought this at Bed, Bath and Beyond in October for use after sinus surgery. Initially, is was silent, but after about 12 nights of use, started making a whirring fan noise which is disturbing when you are trying to sleep. Turned it on one night and the noise was so loud (like an electric lawn mower sound), I returned it to the store and they gave me another one. Last night, I turned the new one on and it was silent for about 1 hour, then the new one started making the whirring noise. This is not acceptable so I will give The Sharper Image one more chance as I really do like the mist it throws off. I am returning the 2nd one this weekend and will get a 3rd. Hope this one works as stated in the advertising. My daughter has the same model and has had no problems with it for the 4 or so months she''s had it.

Humidifiers seems to only last one season in my house but are almost a requirement for my family''s allergies. We''ve had Honeywells, Holmes and Crane models. They have all been insanely hard to clean, noisy and/or difficult to fill. I couldn''t be happier with the Sharper Image model!

1. The light has a nice glow to it for a good night-light in my daughter''s room. It can be turned off though for the master bedroom where we don''t want an extra light while we''re trying to sleep.

2. It is very quiet. In my bedroom, it is about 2 feet from my head on my bedside table and I really don''t notice it. If I concentrate, I can hear the soft sound of the mist coming out as well as the slightest gurgle now and then (about as loud as gently tapping a key on a computer keyboard 2-3 times).

3. Cleaning has not been an issue. It even came with a demineralizing tab to put in the tank to keep the water from causing a chalky build-up. Water does sit in the base when the tank has emptied, so I try to wipe out the excess every week or so.

4. Though the tank doesn''t fit perfectly in the bathroom sink to fill it, it is doable. All of the other ones I''ve had needed to be filled either in the tub or the kitchen sink.

5. The tank runs all night and into the day at half setting (perfect for a standard bedroom). The box says 8 hours per tank which is probably what it runs when at a higher setting.

6. This was one of the top-rated humidifiers on Consumer Reports. That should tell you something!

I''ve only been using the first for a month and the second for half that, but I am thrilled. I have a good feeling these will make it completely through the winter and be ready for next year! Highly, highly, highly recommended!

We like this humidifier but are discouraged at the price of the cartridges, which must be replaced every 30-40 fillings. $20 a cartridge is expensive. They keep the machines from building up minerals on the inside.

FX-CL2 Filtrex Greenblock Carbon Filter FX10-CL2

FX-CL2 Filtrex Greenblock Carbon Filter FX10-CL2So we followed Ed Begley''s advice in "Guide to Sustainable Living" and got the water filtration system he swears by but needed to upgrade to one that didn''t require an extra faucet. We got a nice under the counter mount for the kitchen that would fit the same filter we had in our lifesource system. When we went to order a replacement filter from life source we paid 35 buck, shipping and tax and got this exact filter. We will not be ripped off again from this GREEN company who apparently are more about making green then saving the environment.
