  • Tested and certified by NSF International

If you own a Samsung Fridge and are purchasing this product, you already know how your filtered water and ice taste.

I was not really happy with the price of this filter, but after wasting a lot of time on-line looking around for the part at a cheaper price, I came back to Amazon. Beware that other cheaper parts online are not always Samsung origional equipment manufacturer. (OEM)

I don''t have personal experiece with these particular non OEM part, but experience with other non OEM have not always been pleasant.

This is the origional OEM part with a sticker sheet included to track the next time you''ll need to replace the filter.

I have purchased parts from other online retailers typically with no problems. On the few occasions that I have had a problem you are pretty much on your own. Buying through Amazon is worth the literal few pennies you might save purchasing from other retailers.

4 stars becaue I feel the product is too expensive for what it is.

Update 2-20010

The ($40 plus shipping) price of these filters has become absurd. Amazon still offers a competitive price, the best you''ll find on the internet for the OEM part. I installed a reverse osmosis water filter under my sink and put a T connection in to run filtered water to my fridge. The RO system delivers far better water quality than the Samsung filter. I removed the filter from my fridge. My RO system uses 5 filters in a year. These 5 filters cost a little more than one Samsung filter.

Buy Samsung DA29-00003G Aqua-Pure Plus Refrigerator Water Filter (1-Pack) Now

Samsung HAFCU1/XAA Aqua-Pure Plus Refrigerator Water Filter; lots of confusing numbers in this listing but the item received, as Amazon.com as the seller, is the most recent model, based on research on Samsung''s website. (DA29-00003G replaces DA29-00003B)

It''s exactly the same as the one I took out of our 6-mo.-old Samsung refrigerator and works the same good. Good price, but I don''t know where the retail price of $55 comes from; Samsung''s online price is around $35, plus shipping and maybe sales tax. Overall, good package deal from Amazon.

While replacing, even though you''ve turned the water supply off to the refrigerator, you''ll still get dripping water as you remove the old filter. I put a little pan on the shelf to catch the water and to make sure it''s not leaking after installation. I had success on the first try.

Note on resetting the red indicator light: default instructions indicate holding two buttons for three seconds, except one model, which wasn''t mine. However, my model is also a one-button reset, but it''s more like 4 or 5 seconds. Just hold it down until it turns from red to green when holding it down, then release your finger.

I purchased two of these filters as replacements for my Samsung fridge. The part number shipped was the DA29-00003B, which I think is also compatible with the DA29-00003A as well. It worked flawlessly in my fridge (Model RS2556SH). I recieved my order in the mail 3 days after purchase (regular USPS delivery)!

They are brand new genuine Samsung filters, which is a great deal for the price. The local Best Buy was charging $45+tax, so this is a good bargain.

Well according to the company I originally purchased this product from, they no longer make the 500 gal. model (but it is still being offered according the the model numbers). Anyway, the 300 gal. model which is apparently the only one available anymore has a slower water flow than the 500 gal. model; I suppose they both would have their pros and cons then, the 300 gal. takes longer to fill up my water cups from the fridge but on the other hand when it hits the ice in the cup I don''t have as much splash. The 300 gal model appears to have the same expiration time of 6 months.

I have a Samsung RFG297AABP French door refrigerator and this filter is the genuine Samsung filter I needed for it. If it takes you more than 30 seconds to swap these filters our, you''re thinking too hard. Just twist, pull out the old one. Push in the new one and twist it in place. Couldn''t be easier.

Vitamin C Handheld Showerhead Chlorine Filter

Vitamin C Handheld Showerhead Chlorine Filter
  • Removes 99.9% of chlorine and chloramines from tap water by using Vitamin C
  • Easy to install and use.
  • 2 Spray patterns and off position with switch control. Durable resin housing with chrome finish
  • Up to 50% Water saving, Environmentally Safe, Meets EPA Water Sense Criteria
  • Improves dry, irritated and itchy skin conditions caused by chlorine

I purchased this Unit a few months ago. I immediately noticed the cheap plastic connectors (alot of companies are doing this but this plastic was really cheap feeling). I give them credit for the metal hose though. I hooked it up and turned on the shower and water was flying everywhere from the shower pipe to where the Sonaki connected to it. I took it off and used even more plumbers tape and turned it on. Now, water just leaked from the spot so I left it like that (it shouldn''t leak at all).

First impression:

Excellent water pressure and spray. I have poor water pressure and tried a waterpik handheld showerhead before that just didn''t work well. The Sonaki showerhead has the best spray I have ever used-very good.

My hair felt softer and even though I wasn''t happy about the leak I would have been more than pleased if.......

The cartridge lasted a month. It didn''t. It lasted 2 weeks! This is just me showering once a day for 2 weeks. That would mean it would cost $200/year for cartridges. Not good. I liked the shower spray so much, however, that I decided to keep trying it out so I loaded the new cartridge that came with the Sonaki. I was surprised at how long this cartridge was lasting, the vitamin C wasn''t going down much at all.

Then I noticed my hair and scalp were getting worse so I decided to check out the cartridge and found...........

There was no hole in the bottom of it! That meant water was going around the cartridge not through it. I compared it to the original cartridge and of course the first one had a hole in it, plus it was also a little bigger. Now, what the heck is going on here?

I happened to have also gotten a 5 pack of cartridges and checked them out. ALL of them had no hole in the bottom. Needless to say, back it went.

So, is this company scamming us? Is the company just incredibly inept with poor quality control? I was flabbergasted at what I had just seen.

I will add that if they improved the seal at the pipe, if the cartridge lasted 1 month, and if I didn''t just see 6 out of 7 defective ones this would be a nice shower filter, so I gave it 2 stars for the spray power. As it stands, this is one screwed up company.

I bought this showerhead 6 months ago, and what a difference it has made to the water in my shower! I live in Washington, DC, where the water is very harsh and treated with a lot chlorine. Before I bought the Sonaki showerhead, my skin would smell like chlorine after showering. My hair and skin were so dry, it was awful. I tried the Sonaki showerhead at my brother''s suggestion, and noticed a major difference right away. It''s like it takes the chlorine right out of the water. Actually, it neutralizes the chlorine, according to the package. My first filter recently ran out, and again, my hair and skin were extremely dry. I replaced the filter, and the water was good again.

Seriously, I recommend this product to anyone who has harsh water, city water, or just wants a showerhead that will make your skin softer and healthier.

I was a bit dubious when I researched this item, because the reviews appeared to be fake (only one out of the 5 seems authentic). When looking at their profiles, the users had only written rave reviews about this product, nothing else. So anyway, I did end up buying this product because... I admit it, of its appealing aesthetics. I took my chance even with the fact that it''s fairly an expensive shower head compared to many others. I did like the style so I decided to give it a try. Well, it ended up being a VERY good decision, I do love the way it looks, but it''s by far more effective than the other shower heads I used in the past. I like the spread of the holes which cover the whole face of the shower head, keeping the water flowing consistently at a high pressure.

The only reason I didn''t give it 5 stars is because the filter runs out pretty fast, less than a month. The water actually dissipates the "vitamin C" powder in the filter as you shower, unlike carbon filters where the water filters through the granules of carbon.

It would be nice if they figured out a way to combine this "vitamin C" filter and a carbon filter, which would probably be more effective and long-lasting.

I bought this and use it in conjunction with the aquasana filter. I was told that this was the only filter out there in the market that can rid the water of chloramine. So far I''m satisfied with the product, ALTHOUGH... the filters do wear out fast. Its just me and my wife that use it once daily and it lasts for only 2-3 weeks.

UPDATE NOV. 2010

The showerhead is all rusted and the water from the rusted nozzles spray everywhere. Also I find myself spending $50 every 5-6 months on filters.

I bought this shower head 2 months ago, and I don''t think I have ever been happier with a product. The most obvious benefit is the vitamin C water filter. This thing has made a world of difference on my skin. I have ALWAYS had dry skin problems, to the point where I get bumps on the back of my arms and my hands would crack almost to the point of bleeding. Well I don''t have to worry about that anymore. My skin doesn''t dry out anymore. I would have to use lotion all day before...now I use it once a day...at most.

On top of the healthier water, the shower head itself is the most practical, convenient, and attractive shower head I have ever had. I have a low pressure water system in my house, but you would never be able to tell with these shower heads. My water used to drip out of my old shower head...but not this one. The Sonaki shower head has a built in turbine that makes the water pressure just right! The polished chrome with the orange filter just looks awesome. The method to change settings is as easy as flipping on a light (no more slow turning to try to get the right setting). I can not say enough about this product.

Braun Brita Patented KWF2 Water Filter (2-Pack) Save 18% Off

Braun Brita Patented KWF2 Water FilterThis filter fits Braun Coffee makers models KF580, KF550, KF510, KF190, KF187, KF180, KF157, KF155, KF150, KF145, KF140, KF130.

If you go to the Braun Web site and want to search for your model coffee maker, be aware that Braun thinks these are two word model numbers. Their search engine wants you to enter KF + 157 for the KF157 model.

The filters work. We like them more for the hard water problem than the chlorine issue. The filter does both well. Just pricey.

Apparently Braun teamed with the Brita company to offer this replacement water filter that currently costs $9.99 for two. Though their instruction manual practically pounds you over the head with how necessary it is to replace the filter, it doesn''t tell you what model to get! (From the instruction manual: The water filter "improves coffee flavor by significantly reducing chlorine and also prevents calcification ... Provided that the cartridge is replaced regularly every two months, it not only brews better tasting coffee but can also extend the life of your coffeemaker by preventing [this gets redundant] calcification buildup. Braun water filer cartridges are available at your local retailer or Braun service centers.")

Important:

If you own a Braun and want the replacement filter, the best thing you can do is read the outstanding KWF2 filter review on Amazon.com (posted October 27, 2002, and located a few pages down) by Stephen Holland of Naperville, Illinois: "Model numbers that this applies to, October 27, 2002." I excerpt from that review here: "As of 27 October 2002, this filter fits Braun Coffee makers models KF580, KF550, KF510, KF190, KF187, KF180, KF157, KF155, KF150, KF145, KF140, KF130." I suggest you give him a "helpful" vote for the research he did. (Stephen, please write me if you prefer that I not use this excerpt.)

I have the KF 590 (also known as the KF590E), and according to this website http://www.theessentials.com/jump.jsp?itemID=994&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C8%2C65%2C336&iProductID=994 , that model also uses the KWF2.

(The following section is taken from my own review for the Krups 590): Braun''s manual recommends that you buy a new water filter every two months, but the Braun-linked website above tells you to replace it every 70 brews. Depending on your consumption, that could easily take three or four months, not two. Also, running vinegar through the machine twice should dissolve most or all of the calcification, and one can always just buy bottled water. At one filter every two months (see below), annual replacement (assuming no shipping) will cost you about $60, or about 75% of the current Amazon.com sale price. Braun and Brita executives must be in their cups over this sweet little arrangement they''ve brewed. It''s a great coffee maker, but the convenience of the filters will cost you.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)I used to buy these filters locally for my Braun Flavor Select, but, when I moved, I could not find a source. I am so glad I''ve found them here because I wouldn''t want to do without them.

Although the Flavor Select does come with a dummy cartridge to place where the filter belongs, it is well worth your while to use the water filters. I was going through coffee pots every couple of years because of hard water deposits in the lines and vinegar cleanings did not help. The filters have kept my Braun brewing coffee without ever having to use vinegar or other methods of interior cleaning. While I can''t say that my coffee tastes better, I can attest that these filters have lengthened the life of my brewer.

I bought this coffee maker BECAUSE of the water filter. When I bought it (8 months ago), the water filters were available in the store. Now, I can''t find them anywhere but on-line. I am not adverse to shopping on-line but for an item like this I don''t understand why they don''t just sell them in the same stores that sell the coffee maker. I mean, come on BRAUN/BRITA.....how do you say "DUH"? And how do you say "INCONVENIENCE THE CUSTOMER"?

KRUPS F4720057 Duo Filters Water Filtration System Save 47% Off

KRUPS F4720057 Duo Filters Water Filtration System for KRUPS Coffee Makers, 2-PackI purchased 4 Duo Filter F472 for my FMF5. These filters should last through all of 2009 if replaced every 3 months as stated on the box. I noticed my coffee tasting a little bitter over the past few weeks. We throw the carafe in the dishwasher along with all of the parts. I then decided to replace the filter a month early and I noted two shocking things. 1: the filter and the grey filter holder had mold all over it. We could not even pull the filter out without it sticking. 2: The base were the filter holder sits had a puddle of water in the unit. This unit has not been used in over two weeks. I have contacted Krups and they have stated that I need to wait for a supervisor to call me back (24-48hrs) and I should be using a calcium "calcify"cleaner in the machine "often". No exact amount of times but "often" was given.

Be aware that you might have to wipe the water out of the base under the grey filter holder.

Krups suggests :

Descaling

Descaling is necessary to keep your coffee machine running efficiently. The frequency of

descaling depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the coffee machine.

If you notice the brew cycle has slowed it is generally time to descale the machine.

See the chart below:

Type of Water Without Duo Filter With Duo Filter

Water Filtration Water filtration

Hard 40 uses 80 uses

Soft 80 uses 160 uses

* Before descaling, remove the filter holder (k).

* You may use either the Krups descaling solution diluted in 8 ounces of water or 8 ounces of

white vinegar.

* Pour the solution or vinegar into water reservoir (b) and start the coffee machine (without

coffee).

* Allow half the liquid to run into the carafe, then switch off and let stand for 1 hour.

* Restart the coffee machine to complete the cycle.

* Rinse the coffee machine by running it through 2 full cylces with water only.

* On the timer models if the display continues to read "CALC" repeat the process again.

Krups makes a great coffeemaker. Part of the reason the coffee tastes so great is because of these filters, which help eliminate the chlorine and other minerals. We make a full pot daily, and I generally replace the filters about every 90 days. Additionally, Handy House is a great merchant. Shipping was super fast.

I own a Krups 1010 pod coffee maker that uses this filter. For some reason local retailers have stopped carrying these filters and other Krups products. This mail-order purchase was a good buy, much cheaper than retail, but needed to be packaged better. The three boxes came crushed in shipment, but luckily, it did not affect the charcol filled filters. I would order again when needed.

Klean Kanteen Poly Sports 2.0 Cap

Klean Kanteen Poly Sports 2.0 CapI was almost ready to quit using my cap because it was embarassing to use,no matter how slowly and quietly I tried drinking from it!

But, I sent klean kanteen an email asking if they had any suggestions, not really expecting an answer...but I did get an email back with the answer I hoped for. The tip they gave me WORKED, and I absolutely love the cap now, and it doesn''t make a sound!

So, here''s what they sent to me....I hope it works for you too.

From Klean Kanteen: "I do have some tips for using the sports caps. They are our most popular cap, as well as our most complained about. It is the air pressure that makes that funny noise.

Sports caps were originally designed and used with plastic drinking bottles, and with those, we have the ability to squeeze and change the pressure coming in and out. Because you cannot squeeze stainless steel, air has a more difficult time getting inside and making the water flow out. We had to alter the design to include an air vent in the cap to allow the pressure to escape. This air vent does have a silicone plug and valve; it helps to keep the water in.

1) The trick is to "gently" tighten the sports cap onto kanteen. Not over tightening the cap allows the silicone vent to function more quietly by relieving the vacuum created inside the kanteen.

2) Try to keep the air vent facing up toward your nose. This way, it keeps the vent facing upward so it is backed by air, not by the liquid.

3) Only tilt a little and then suck through the spout.

Try those tips, and in most cases they will take care of the noise and air flow issues.

The silicone white dot is the air vent; if you take it out it will leak. There is some natural variation among the silicone stoppers and the noise that you hear is air moving past the silicon. Some people who use the bottle specifically for sports and working out will actually take out the silicone stopper and find that they don''t mind the drip as a trade off for the increased flow.

The little plastic cover of the sports cap, is a sanitary cover. It is not intended to bear the weight of a full kanteen, it is just to keep the nozzle klean and safe to drink from.

I hope that helps.... Let me know if you have any other questions.

I recently gave up buying bottled water. While I don''t miss dealing with all the plastic bottles, I did miss the sports cap that my favorite brand came with. I was happy to see that Klean Kanteen offers a sports cap, and I am happy that it works just like any other sports-capped bottle I''ve used.

Like other reviewers noted, my sports cap whistled when I took a drink. Thanks to another reviewer, I discovered that if I loosen the cap just a little, I get a much better flow of water and no whistling. Basically, my sports cap works best if I tighten it just to the point of stopping and then no more. (My habit is to use more pressure and tighten it that extra turn or so.) Even though I leave off that extra turn, I have had no problem with leaking.

Buy Klean Kanteen Poly Sports 2.0 Cap Now

For the longest time, I held off on buying products like this one after reading several so-so reviews, or the one or two negative reviews in a bunch of good ones. It took me a long time to figure out that the very existence of an opinion forum will invite some people to nitpick, and often to even find problems where none actually exist. Such is exactly the case with the Klean Kanteen Sport Cap 2.0. I own three such caps, and exchange them among three Klean Kanteen bottles. I''ve never had the least bit of trouble tightening or untightening any of the caps on any of the bottles. Before writing this review, I went to a local store that sells these, and did another check there, exchanging several Sport Caps 2.0 with several Klean Kanteen water bottles. The result: Not a single problem. The caps all fit well, and tightened and untightened easily on every Klean Kanteen of every size that I tried them on. It''s always possible that someone got a defective bottle or cap, but I find it difficult indeed to imagine that the average person would have any trouble whatsoever in this department.

As for flow and noise: The Sport Cap 2.0 is designed to increase the flow, and it certainly does. After a long run, I can drain a 27-ounce KK in well under 10 seconds with this cap on it. It''s a cinch to wash it, and other than that it requires no maintenance. The only "drawback", if you want to call it that, is the slight whistling sound the cap makes when you drink from it--not some mysterious, strange sound that will make people wonder, but the ordinary sound of air rushing through a small hole in the cap, past a small silicone valve. The noise could probably be eliminated altogether if the valve hole was bigger--but this would make leaks much more likely (as it is, I can shake, drop, run with, and roll my KKs across the floor with no leakage whatsoever from this cap). In any case, I''ve used my KKs with this cap at work, in the classroom, and even in the quiet zone of a research library and never gotten so much as a curious glance due to this "noise" that is about as audible as a grumbling stomach.

Unless you spend most of your time inside a completely silent echo chamber, the air-flow sound won''t be a problem for you, and as my three-year-old nephew can tighten one of these caps just fine, I doubt you''ll find that to be an issue either. If you''re looking for an excellent, easy-to-use-and-clean, high-flow cap for a KK, this is just the thing.

Read Best Reviews of Klean Kanteen Poly Sports 2.0 Cap Here

Its a solid sports cap that is designed specifically for KK. The reason it whistles is that the Kanteen is solid steel and unlike plastic bottles you cannot squeeze it to get the water out. You actually have to suck on the cap to get the water out. There is actually a little soft plastic valve that opens when theres negative pressure in the bottle letting air in from the outside. This is what causes the whistling. If you orient the cap so that this valve is on top and not touching the water inside, it wont make that chirping noise. A bit annoying (thus the -1 star) but it isnt something that is a real dealbreaker.

Want Klean Kanteen Poly Sports 2.0 Cap Discount?

I initially bought the first version of the sport cap only to find it difficult to screw into the bottle and very, VERY noisy when drinking. It makes an odd squeaking sound, much to the amusement of my colleagues at lunch. So when I saw that this cap was specifically advertised as having better flow and less noise, I happily sent off my money.

It does flow more freely. Unfortunately, it also still squeaks. "Quieter" apparently means "less squeaky" rather than "silent." In contrast to KK''s other caps, this one also requires a great deal of effort to screw into the bottle. I generally have to wrap a cloth around the cap, twist hard, and grunt. Given these caveats, the sport cap is still more convenient than having to unscrew a regular cap every time you want to drink, but Sport Cap 2.0 does have issues.

Frigidaire FRA126CT1 12-000 Btu Window Air Conditioner Save 17% Off

Frigidaire FRA126CT1 12-000 Btu Window Air Conditioner W / Temp Remote
  • 12-000 BTU cooling capacity with variable speed fan
  • Cools room sizes up to 640 sq. ft.
  • 8-way air direction control
  • Clean air ionizer; Anti-bacterial mesh filter type- tilt-out filter access
  • Electronic controls with temperature sensing remote

The 12,000 BTU unit is a bad choice for most people. The smaller 10,000 BTU unit is 33% less in cost and typically much more reliable. The bigger 15,000 BTU unit is not that much more than the 12,000 unit.

So why would you pay so much extra above the price of the smaller 10K unit, yet stop short of going all out for the 15,000 BTU unit? Only one reason window height. Beyond 12,000 BTU the case gets much larger, which means it won''t fit in some window styles.

Price not important? Measure your window, and if it fits get the bigger 15K unit.

Price important? Then why would you pay so much more for this one over the 10K unit?

I''ve bought and run this size, but only in special cases where I was restricted by window size and had a really large room to cool.

Also to consider... here''s the review I gave on another model that is relevant to this one:

------------------

Between family and rent houses I put all types and sizes to the test every year in the scorching Texas sun. Here''s my experience:

If you want a solid window air conditioner, it really boils down to two choices: Frigidaire and LG. The current "sweet spot" on reliability/price/economy is the 10,000 BTU unit regardless of make/manufacturer.

Recently they''ve been making 12,000 & 15,000 BTU 110V (normal plug) units.

-The 12000 BTU truly is 20% stronger, but you pay 50% more here on Amazon.

-The 15000 BTU is a snowball tossing beast, but it''s in a larger case that may not fit your window (height-wise) and doesn''t have a long history on the market so we don''t know how it will do long-term

LG Pros The 10,000 BTU LG is my "workhorse". Best value. Run them till they fail in 4 to 7 years, then swap `em out for another.

1) Better warranty (but really, who cares when it breaks because you''re sitting there sweating)

2) Typically last an additional 2-3 years over other brands

3) An LG rarely just stops running it will degrade slowly over a season

4) They are more tolerant of neglect (e.g. dirty filters... can''t rely on tenant to care for your stuff)

5) Better withstands being placed in harsher environments (direct sunlight, restricted airflow)

6) Lower "lemon" rate

Frigidaire Pros For family I prefer to run 12,000 & 15,000 BTU Frigidaires. They are a little nicer, and I consider it worth it even though they always break sooner. (Value and reliability aren''t as important, but I do have to compensate by keeping a new boxed spare around because they always fail at the most inopportune moments. Most people can''t do this.)

1) A little nicer looking

2) Better features

3) Quieter

4) Slightly easier installation

5) Circuit surge/drain on startup seems significantly less (think lights flickering when compressor comes on)

Other parting thoughts:

1) A thing to know about newer units: To obtain the higher EER (efficiency) ratings, they use finer design on heat exchanger fins. For the non-experts, this means smaller little spaces that get jammed up with dirt/mold/whatever resulting in a clogged/filthy/poorly operating unit much-much faster than your parents'' old units. Appliance repair stores can service your window unit every year (clean it of filth) that will extend life by at least 2 years and sometimes much more. Of course this costs anywhere from $50 up, and the units are cheap, so it''s your call whether to service or toss it.

2) The 10,000 BTU Frigidaire here on Amazon is a good buy w/Amazon Prime shipping. For other higher BTU models, as of this writing you''ll be paying more but also know that right now with the national heatwave most box stores are sold out so you may not have a choice.

3) Something this heavy is a risky ship (versus store pickup). It might be shipped wrong-side-up, or dropped, or whatever. It''s a risk you''ll run so do so knowingly. (I seem to have pretty good luck w/Amazon shipped items.) The risk is offset, however, by advantages of buying from Amazon (store would take forever, you''d have to load it and bring it home, have to have a vehicle large enough to carry it, etc.)

4) Clean. Your. Filter. Every. Week. It will keep your little ice machine healthy.

5) Different stores have different models from the same maker. If they are made in the same year, it doesn''t seem to make a difference.

6) Tempted to go cheap like a Haier? Don''t.

7) Tempted to buy a 6,000 or 8,000 BTU model? Don''t. Get the stronger unit. It will cool down the room faster. It will not need to work as hard as a weaker unit and last longer. It is built with some stronger/better key components.

Good luck and happy cooling.

New unit was very noisy. Rather than return it, it was easier to it take to a local warranty repair center. I kept Amazon in the loop just in case, and they were gracious in offering to exchange the unit if I chose not to have it repaired.

The repair center diagnosed the noise as a bad bearing in the fan motor. The blower motor was replaced, and the unit is OK now. The motor being bad right out of the box suggests that these units go through no testing at the factory, and quality control is low.

After the repair, the overall noise level is about average which is OK with me. Most of the sound is the air movement swish of the blower. There is very little compressor sound when it is running, and a light "clunk" when the compressor turns off.

This 12,000 BTU unit is the same physical size as the 8,000 BTU Frigidaire unit I am replacing. For what it''s worth, the blower in the 8,000 BTU unit lasted two seasons. That might explain why Frigidaire has only a one-year warranty (which is really one season) on that part of the unit. Perhaps Frigidaire is trying to take over Haier''s role as the industry purveyor of cheap appliances.

I later found out that LG has a five-year warranty on everything -no need to buy an extended warranty. Frigidaire has five years only on the compressor, one year on everything else. The repair guy at the warranty repair center said he has seen only two LG units in the five years he has been there.

Having gone through multiple window units, I''ll offer the advice that, in order to get the high EER ratings, these things (all brands) use delicate fins on the heat exchangers the design and spacing of which easily accumulate micro dust particles in spite of the filter. The moisture on the fins along with the dust encourages the growth of mold if the fins are not meticulously cleaned. But the delicate nature of the fins along with the presence of the electronic controls means you can''t do like the old days where you took the thing out of the chassis and washed it out at the local car wash. Cleaning the fins now requires something like using a strong shop vac and a tooth brush to carefully comb fins clean at the end of each season.

In other words: It might have a high EER when you get it new, but it doesn''t stay that way for long. It''s too bad the EER is only for brand new in the lab, and no thought is given to the EER over a typical lifespan of the product.

I needed to replace a 10 year old 12,000 BTU Kenmore AC and thoroughly researched my options before zeroing in on this Frigidaire. The clincher was the unique remote control -it has a key feature that no other AC''s have, including other Frigidaires.

Thermostat & Automatic Climate Control Built Into The Remote

Let''s be clear -most modern AC''s come with a remote that turns the temperature up or down, but that''s NOT all this Frigidaire''s remote does. It actually controls the climate via it''s own thermostat and direct communication with the AC itself. The remote also has a digital readout that displays the actual room temperature at the remote itself. This is significant, because most AC''s have a thermostat in the AC housing. But this Frigidaire has a thermostat built right into the remote control, which means the AC will cycle on and off based on the temperature at the remote, instead of at the AC unit. I hated how my old Kenmore would click off the compressor because the thermostat thought the room was cool enough, yet where I was sitting, was still hot and muggy. Now, with this new Frigidaire, the compressor keeps running based on the temperature on the remote''s digital readout. Every few minutes the remote sends a signal to the AC unit, telling it what the temperature is; and the compressor adjusts, based on that readout, keeping the room a constant, consistent temperature. This feature alone sets this AC apart, head and shoulders above the rest. And after just a few days of using it, there''s no way I''d ever want an AC without this feature from here on.

More About the Remote

Other than the awesome feature mentioned above, the remote can turn the AC on or off, set the temperature, timer on, timer off, sleep mode, auto fan and energy saver. It''s also a cute little thing that feels good in my hand. It''s about the size of a small cell phone and the rubberized buttons are well laid out and easy to use, even for those with poor eyesight and dexterity, like me.

Eco-Friendly

The power surge my old Kenmore caused would literally make the lights dim whenever the compressor kicked in. On really hot days, that sudden power drain would often trip the circuit in my fuse box, knocking the power out. But this new Frigidaire is so energy efficient, that I barely hear the compressor kick in, and the lights dim for just a fraction of a second. So the power drain compared to my old Kenmore is almost nonexistent. I feel confident that when we go through another round of brown-outs here in California, my Frigidaire will keep running even when Edison throttles down everyone''s kilowatt usage. Even better, the Electric Company is giving me a rebate for upgrading to a new "green" AC; how COOL is THAT?!

Cooling Powerhouse

There aren''t too many 12,000 BTU air conditioners out there; any higher in BTU, and you can''t use a standard 3-prong wall outlet. So I was happy to find this 12,000 BTU replacement. This Frigidaire cools my 650 square foot room without a problem. Actually, I have yet to run it higher than Low speed, and at that setting, it''s been cooling off the whole room quite quickly, and keeping it at a constant temperature. I know it''s early in the season, but it''s already gotten hot and muggy here in Southern California, so I''ve had plenty of opportunity to put this new AC through its paces already. But thus far, I''m quite confident this Frigidaire can more than handle the sweltering heats that are coming.

Clean Air

I have a couple different air purifiers, but it''s cool that this AC also has a built-in ionizer. With all the air it blows around the room, it''s good to know that I can turn the ionizer on with the push of a button, and minimize the dust flying around. For those of us with respiratory problems, this is a HUGE Bonus!

Installation

If I could find an AC that does all this one can, plus install itself, then it would be the perfect AC! Short of that fantasy, this AC was well worth the setup. I had help with it, and 2 hours later -voila -we were enjoying the reward of cooler air. The unit itself was a little lighter than the Kenmore I was replacing, but let''s face it, it''s difficult to balance a big, heavy, square object on a windowsill. We got the job done though, with no real headaches or problems. The side louvers were easy to attach, and the screws, brackets and weather stripping were all self-explanatory.

QUIET!

Some other reviews had me concerned about the noise level of this particular unit, but I have to say, this Frigidaire is about as quiet as an AC gets. I have a smaller 5,000 BTU AC in the bedroom, and it''s much louder than this 12,000 BTU. My old Kenmore was waaaaaaay louder than this, even when it was brand spanking new.

Bottom Line -Frigidaire really hasn''t done themselves any favors by describing and marketing this AC so poorly. They should be punching up what''s special about this remote (the built-in thermostat,) how it interacts with the AC, and why that unique feature matters to consumers. It''s truly one of a kind and that feature alone squashes the competition in my book. This AC is so much better than it appears, at first glance. Thankfully, I was very thorough in my research, both online and in store, and I doubt you''ll find a better AC for the money than this Frigidaire. I fully expect this AC to work flawlessly for years to come; and because I''ll have it for many years, I''m glad I took the time to make the right choice.

I have a large room (about 600SF) with 10-1/2 foot ceilings in NYC. Two ceiling fans help move the air around. So the last two days have been 95F or thereabouts here in NYC, I''ve run the unit on low fan at 65F setting, and the room is chilly. At high speed the fan is kind of noisy, but at low speed you barely hear it, just some white noise in the background.

Turning it on full blast in a hot room, it takes a couple hours to really cool the room off, but maintaining a cool room, no problem.

Installation was easy enough to figure out, took all of 10 minutes.

So far am very happy with the purchase. Did the purchase via Amazon, a smooth, seamless process.

I use this window ac unit as a thru the wall cooler. It cooled three adjacent rooms during the hottest days of this past summer. I really appreciate the remote control, after several years using old fashioned manual controls. An unexpected benefit was the low noise. The unit is just a few feet from my TV and does not interfere with sound.

Adya AC2OZ Clarity 2 Ounce Ionic Mineral Solution

Adya AC2OZ Clarity 2 Ounce Ionic Mineral SolutionI received my Adya clarity yesterday and was very curious to try it, wanted to see the water cloud up and all that. Well, i put the drops in a glass of tap water, and nothing clouded up, the water turned a little yellow, with no sediment. What the heck, I thought maybe I''ve been duped... Anyways, let it sit for 6 hours, still no sediment. Decided I might as well taste it, comparing it to an untreated glass of tap water. Yes, remarkable taste difference. Texture of water "soft" , and that "sweet" kind of non-taste that I do recall from a natural spring once a long time ago. Ok, that was nice. Went back to my work and forgot all about it, felt mildly disappointed it wasn''t more of a WOW experience, oh well. In less than 20 minutes I "woke up", my space totally cleared, my fuzzy (stuck to the internet working all day) eyesight just went ZING !!!and I felt so refreshed, alert, and energized, and i''d only had a half a glass! Drank some more before retiring, woke up this morning and can I say this here, had the L o n g e s t "p" of my life. No morning fuzzy mouth, fully awake before my coffee fix, I even thought about forgetting the coffee (what????) that has NEVEr happened in my life. Great stuff this ! And I am actually glad to know the tap water here is not so bad, ie no sediment coming out, but definitely taste the absence of flouride and chlorine, that''s a great thing. And now I know why they call it "adya CLARITY". Very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend.

I was looking for reviews on ''Adya Clarity''.... when i say reviews i was looking for all ''Good'', ''Neutral'' or''Bad'' reviews.. but was very curious that there was ONLY ''Good'' reviews.....interesting.. I was wanting to heal from a medium case of diarrhea issues and a naturapath wondered if it could be candida related... i was following these rawfoodworld ''M and A'' people at that time and found that they were selling this latest and greatest Adya Clarity for 200 dollars that they claimed HEALED A of candida... so i decided to spend my savings on it...reasoning it as my health is more important than money... i drank it... and it did not change anything for me... my case was ''neutral'' hoping it has not caused any harm...

well recently i found that these same people ''Rawfoodworld'' are selling it at half price ''At cost'' specials ...the first thing that comes to mind is .. why is it being sold at 100% profit? the second is, is it really ''At cost'' now or is it still marked up? Why is it so expensive when Black mica is found cheaply? It was pretty frustrating that there are people out there that show that they are interested in the health of people but are very similar to car salesmen just selling something different...the targeted group is people who are trying to heal...

Ofcourse posting this frustration on their youtube links only led to being deleted.. why would they keep it? wont it affect their sales and their life style depends on it.. M and A remind me of the characters in the movie ''the Jonses'' if you havent seen it, worthwhile watching! just selling products thats about it... even when they are showing a recipe for a Smoothie... they are still selling products...it is unreal how people can get sucked into believing anything... it is no different than Fox News..

Hey everyone,

Before you buy adya clarity please read this consumer alert notice (see link below). To sum up: it is most likely a multimillion dollar scam, it''s potentially dangerous, and the company has been untruthful in the ingredients list. It is also imported as "battery acid"....that should be a heads up right there. Please read for an excellent review:

As far as all the positive testimonials...remember that placebo is a very powerful effect. The more you believe in something, the more powerful it is!

Adya Clarity is a potent product that can leave you with some very difficult to correct conditions. I personally bought into the whole "super shots" thing and after about a month I have a major rash on my forearms that looked like poison ivy but the blisters were not watery. They itched and were very noticeable when wearing short sleeves. My muscles became weaker and my skin where the rash was became partially numb. Then my shoulder and back muscles began to knot up resulting in me being unable to fully raise my RIGHT ARM and I am right handed. The shoulder and back muscles ached constantly and made sleeping very difficult. This condition still exists even though I discontinued using the product a couple months ago. I am a 53 year old male who was in very good health before trying the Adya Clarity. I am not sure exactly what the Adya Clarity reacted with in my body but I know that I will never again use this product and I caution anyone who is considering its use that its results are unpredictable and potentially disabling.

BUNN MCU Single Cup Multi-Use Brewer Save 22% Off

BUNN MCU Single Cup Multi-Use BrewerI purchased this Bunn My Café MCU brewer to replace my problematic Keurig B70 machine, and I am very pleased with it here on day one. I felt the same way with my B70 when I got it, however, after a few months, and ongoing failures, those machines have been nothing but problems. As this was a replacement for my Keurig machine, I will be comparing this new Bunn My Café MCU machine to the old Keurig.

First, everyone hates instruction manuals, but take the time to read the first few pages. It will only take a few minutes, and it makes it easier to understand which drawer works with the different formats.

Out of the box, this brewer is a bit different as it uses drawers for the different coffee brewing formats. It can use K-Cups, pods, tea bags, and ground coffee. The different drawers provide that functionality. On page 4 of my manual, it shows a picture of each drawer, and their purpose. It can also provide hot water to mix with hot chocolate or oatmeal in the morning.

The Bunn My Café MCU does not have all the bells and whistles that the Keurig machine has. While I would appreciate having some of those features, I would rather have a machine that actually works and isn''t always broken. The features the Bunn My Café MCU does NOT have are:

No storage reservoir. Like the B70, it has the internal tank, so brewing a cup is quick. However, you need to pour in the desired amount of water into the top each time you make a cup of coffee. The amount you pour in will control how much is pumped out.

There is no automatic on/off time. The unit is always on, but automatically sets back after six (6) hours of no use. After twenty-six (26) hours of no use, it goes to sleep. Later when you go to use it, it automatically wakes up, and returns to normal temperature.

The internal water temperature is set to 200°F. The only adjustment is for high altitudes above 4000 feet.

The Bunn My Café MCU requires an initial setup before you can brew your coffee. The brewer has an internal hot water tank that needs filled. They provide step by step instructions on page 3. You will need to add a few cups of water overall to get it filled. Once filled, it will begin to heat the water in the tank. This takes a few minutes, and the brew button turns a solid red. Red usually means problems, but now, it is just heating the water for the first time. Once heated, it will turn green, and it is ready to go.

Some notes:

The Bunn My Café MCU brewer makes a bit more noise compared with the B70 when brewing, but nothing objectionable.

The drawer for the K-Cups is easy to use. Inside, it has a handle that you may want to pull towards you. I have found that it works best if pulled more straight up first.

Unlike the B70, you can also use soft pods and tea bags. The ground coffee drawer is also nicer to use compared with the older basket I used in the B70.

This machine is probably only 2/3rd''s the size of the Keurig. Overall, it is a nice size on the counter.

One feature the Bunn My Café MCU has that the B70 does not is a Pulse mode. This brews at a slower speed to extract a stronger, bolder flavor from the coffee or tea. I used this feature with one of my Columbian K-cups, and the coffee actually has a better, smoother flavor.

As for the warranty, the Bunn My Café MCU has a two (2) year warranty, compared with the B70''s one year warranty. I have used Bunn commercial systems in restaurants for years, and they have been one of the most reliable appliances. I am hoping that same dedication to quality will exist in this home use machine too. As time goes on, I will update this review if I have any issues with this new Bunn My Café MCU brewer.

As a side note. This unit has been on back order from Amazon for some time now. I found it locally, and purchased it from a local retailer.

Update December 2012

After a month or so, I have had no problems with the Bunn. The only feature I have missed is that the Bunn does not have a water reservoir. Also, my tall 7½" insulated travel mugs do not fit in it for brewing. The largest mug that you can put in when using the K-Cup drawer is about 4 3/4" with the drip tray. Pull out the drip tray, and you can get a 6" mug in. If you use some of the other optional drawers, like the hot water one, you can get a slightly larger mug in. Right now, I have a 2 cup Pyrex glass measuring cup that sits with the coffee maker that I use to fill it. And when I need my travel mugs, I just brew into that cup and pour it into the mug. However, in no way would these missing features make me go back to the Keurig. I works every time, and heats hotter and faster.

Since my initial review, I have used the drawer for ground coffee. I purchased a new bag of Starbucks Sumatra beans, grind them myself as needed, and works well. It took a few tries to get the perfect setting in my Burr grinder to get it just the way I like it. I like my coffee dark and strong. I ground it a bit finer compared to what you normally get in pre-ground coffee. I did that too with the Keurig when I first got it. Bought the extra do it yourself pod for the Keurig, but could never get anything really good out of it. I''m guessing it''s just because the Keurig does not get as hot as the Bunn machine.

It''s only been a month or so since I got the Bunn, but so far, no disappointments, and very satisfied!

I did my homework and researched all of the single cup brewers. After spending a lot of time reading, I decided what I really wanted was the My Cafe MCU. Had to wait for the release, but pre-ordered it on Amazon. So very glad that I waited, it was well worth it. Bunn sent 4 sample pods with the coffee and I found that if you used the pulse option with the brew that they make a good 14 oz. cup of coffee. I also have used my own ground coffee and, I don''t know how Bunn did it, but the bitterness that was in the coffee when I used my multi-cup coffee maker was gone. I don''t know if I''ll be using the K-Cups, they''re very pricey and I don''t really need them, maybe for a party, but right now I''m happy with the pods and ground coffee.

I was used to having a larger cup of coffee in the morning and I thought that only being able to brew 14 oz. was going to mean that I would have to brew a second cup, but it was more than enough. As I sat with coffee and took the last sip, I realized that this was the first time in a long time that I had actually finished my morning coffee. If I wanted, it would only take a minute or so to have another fresh cup.

The only down side that I see, is that I now need a shorter travel mug. When using the ground coffee attachment, the clearance is only about 7" and that''s a lot shorter than the travel mugs I have now. That being said, I love the My Cafe MCU.

Would I recommend this? Absolutely, I recommend this to anyone who loves a GREAT cup of coffee!

UPDATE: Found this on Amazon: Contigo Autoseal Randolph Stainless Steel Travel Mug Vacuum Insulated, 16-Ounce and it works perfectly with the My Cafe MCU!

I purchased this to replace my problematic Cuisinart Keurig brewer. Received the brewer today from Amazon. (ordered mid October before it was released) I followed the setup instructions and ran a few cycles before doing a side by side taste test with the Cuisinart. I brewed two 10oz cups, one with the Cuisinart and one with the Bunn, using the same variety of K-cup (Green Mountain Dark Magic) For the first test, I used the regular brew on the Bunn, not the pulse brew. The coffee from the Bunn was hotter after brewing than the Cuisinart, it was also more aromatic, and had a fuller flavor with no bitterness. The Cuisinart brew was a bit flat in flavor compared to the Bunn, and had just a touch of bitterness. I haven''t tried the other trays for pods/tea bags or ground coffee/loose tea yet, but so far, it definitely makes a better cuppa joe than the Cuisinart.

Pulse brew produces a richer cup with still no hint of bitterness. I like the fact that on pulse or regular, it does a pre-burst to wet the grounds. It will also make anywhere from 4-14 oz of coffee. My Keuring would only go up to 12 oz, although there is probably not enough coffee in your typical K-cup to brew a 14oz cup, the option to use the ground coffee tray to hold up to 20 grams of ground coffee will greatly increase my options.

Now I can finally get rid of the partially dismantled Cuisinart I have been using. I have taken that thing apart so many times to fix it, it was becoming a pain, so I would just leave it partially dismantled so I could directly rap on the valves when it started acting up again.

Yes this one, unlike my Keurig, makes a great single cup of coffee using my own ground coffee. Sludge is minimal compared to a french press or a "My K-cup". The best cup is delivered using the "pulse" feature.

I had to buy mine at the Lowes in Dalton, Georgia because Amazon did not have it in stock at the time. I''ve used every "drawer" so far except the one used for water.

I didn''t like the first couple of pods that I tried (the machine came with a package of free pods). Never had a pod machine, but I wasn''t digging the ones it came with. Do pods always taste like this or did they include only the cheap, gross ones?

I''ve used the K-Cup drawer and the ground coffee drawer several times and have loved every cup. K-cups taste really good using this machine. I use the pulse feature constantly now since it makes such a great tasting cup of coffee.

I suppose that my biggest shock is how great a single cup can be using my own ground coffee. I tried this so many times with the Keurig. I tried several grind levels, several brands of coffee YUCK! But with this machine, it is awesome. I can almost see myself drifting away from my k-cup addiction! Although, coffee is my guilty pleasure, so I will happily purchase items that produce a great cup of coffee, and k-cups are da bomb.

For ground coffee I will say that I use small, disc shaped filters that are designed for a coffee-press that I use, but they fit wonderfully in the ground coffee drawer. I do this to reduce any sludge I can possibly avoid; however, compared to other machines, this one produces the least amount of sludge I''ve seen so far even without the little filter I have on hand. Not to mention, unfiltered coffee raises cholesterol. Did you know that? It''s true.

HEATING TIME: I thought I would miss having the big tank of water constantly filled up on my Keurig so that I could have a delicious cup of coffe whenever I wanted it. I am not missing it. The internal tank keeps the water really hot, and even after you''ve just made a cup, it is ready to make a second cup almost right away. Not sure how this is possible. How does it heat water that fast? It''s magic! How big is the internal tank? I have an idea I had to prime it (important for the initial setup) twice before I could get things going. So the internal tank must be at least 14 ounces plus a bit more. Not quite twice that amount, but more than 14oz for sure.

My boyfriend said I should add a con, so here it is: It takes too many coffee grounds to make a single cup. Two scoops are recommended, so that is what I used, and I loved the taste. I can hardly stand the coffee he makes in his drip machine. It is just too weak (he is trying to save money but gets a yucky taste think the coffee-drinking scene in Pulp Fiction). Maybe if we self-ground our coffee to an espresso type ground we wouldn''t have to use so much coffee to get the taste we desire. Who knows?

My own con, but not so bad: Whatever size coffee you want, you must pour that amount in for every cup. This is not a horrible thing. Not like I thought it would be. You pour the water in and boom! Your coffee gets brewed. This is not like the first edition Keurig that makes one cup at a time. No long waits for hot water. This one is instantaneous. Actually this is not a con at all, is it? I can make a 14 ounce cup of coffee!!! No Keurig can do that!!!!

I keep waiting for this machine to break down. It is almost too good to be true. We''ll see! I was in this honeymoon phase forever with my Keurig, so maybe that is where I am now. I will update if it suddenly stops working and breaks my heart. I''ll be upset and very honest and prepared to vent when it happens.

Sorry for the long review, but I''m really pleased so far and had to tell the world.

Okay, I just picked this thing up locally yesterday. All the materials used in the construction seem to be of excellent quality. I primed the machine when I set it up and I go to put the k-cup drawer in and brew a cup and the indicator light flashes green and red. It is clicking in correctly but the machine is not indicating that its full inserted so it will not allow the brewing process to start. All the other drawers were recognized but not the k-cup one. What i noticed is that the drawer seemed to be more flush on the left side than on the right. Its not noticeable unless you are very close up or by feeling it.

Anyway... I ran back to the store to exchange it in the hopes that this was just an anomaly in production. Luckily that was the case, as the second unit had no problem with the k-cup drawer. The second unit still is more flush on the left side of the drawer but it works! Although it does raise a concern of quality control.

As for the coffee, I brewed a cup of Starbucks Christmas K-cup this morning on the pulse setting this morning. It was great. Definately seemed more hotter and richer than with my keurig.

Deducting one star for possible quality control issue and the inconvenience of having to make the trip to exchange.

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist TechnologyI purchased this ultrasonic humidifier a year ago for my two boys, who seem to always be congested either with colds or seasonal allergies or due to the dry air from our A/C. Prior to having this one, we went through a couple humidifiers (either warm or cool mist) a season because they either broke down, didn''t do a good enough job, leaked, or were too difficult to clean. This humidifier works like a DREAM and is so very VERY easy to clean. I love that I can turn the dial to output the desired amount of mist. It''s super quiet, too. I know others have said they''ve had problems with theirs being too noisy or becoming noisy after awhile, but I have not experienced that problem. I''ve also read that some complain about the demineralization cartridge not working for as long as stated or costing too much. I can agree and sympathize there, but folks...you don''t have to buy that cartridge. Just use distilled water. It does the same job, and you can pick up the gallong jugs from your grocery store. While this humidifier IS easy to clean, the manufacturer recommends you do clean the water tank every two to three weeks as well as the water inlet and ultrasonic nebulizer, which are behind a panel that pops off. Don''t forget that little bit of maintenance; it''s important. I have to say, I LOVE that there are no mold issues with this humidifier compared to other cheaper ones I have used. All in all, after having gone through a multitude of humidifiers before purchasing this one I would recommend it hands down. Best humidifier purchase yet!

With winter upon us, my wife and I initially bought a standard humidifier that boils the water into a warm vapor. It worked well at getting the air "moist" and raising the temperature of the room a bit but having to refill AND clean the thing on almost a daily basis was way too annoying. It also made a small, but decent amount of noise when the water was bubbling. In the end, the tank got a small crack which threw off the pressure, so it leaked everywhere.

Fast forward to our new Sharper Image humidifier. Filled up the tank, plugged it in, and instantaneous mist! I probably played with the thing for 5min just amazed at the ultrasonic technology. There literally is just a tiny plate that vibrates with such a high frequency that it creates this misty, fog like stream of vapor. The different level settings work out well to it''s not a simply high, med, low it''s a turn dial so it''s easy to get it at the exact output you''re looking for. We''ve found that a mid-high level will keep the bedroom at a nice humidity and the tank lasts about 3-4 days (running only at night). Noise level is almost silent. The best part? The inside doesn''t get a disgusting since it''s ultrasonic so no more daily cleaning! After a month of use I opened the thing up to scrub it down, and there was barely any residue or film to clean. The negatives? You will get the "white dust" around the room if you don''t put demineralization tablets in a on monthly basis, and having a cool mist can be a little chilling in the winter until your heating catches up with it. All in all we highly recommend this humidifier.

The GOOD:

-Super quiet

-Tank lasts 3-4 days when run at night, med level

-Minimal to no cleaning required

-Keeps our air humid but not saturated

-Very customizable level

-Night light for the kids

The BAD:

I bought this at Bed, Bath and Beyond in October for use after sinus surgery. Initially, is was silent, but after about 12 nights of use, started making a whirring fan noise which is disturbing when you are trying to sleep. Turned it on one night and the noise was so loud (like an electric lawn mower sound), I returned it to the store and they gave me another one. Last night, I turned the new one on and it was silent for about 1 hour, then the new one started making the whirring noise. This is not acceptable so I will give The Sharper Image one more chance as I really do like the mist it throws off. I am returning the 2nd one this weekend and will get a 3rd. Hope this one works as stated in the advertising. My daughter has the same model and has had no problems with it for the 4 or so months she''s had it.

Humidifiers seems to only last one season in my house but are almost a requirement for my family''s allergies. We''ve had Honeywells, Holmes and Crane models. They have all been insanely hard to clean, noisy and/or difficult to fill. I couldn''t be happier with the Sharper Image model!

1. The light has a nice glow to it for a good night-light in my daughter''s room. It can be turned off though for the master bedroom where we don''t want an extra light while we''re trying to sleep.

2. It is very quiet. In my bedroom, it is about 2 feet from my head on my bedside table and I really don''t notice it. If I concentrate, I can hear the soft sound of the mist coming out as well as the slightest gurgle now and then (about as loud as gently tapping a key on a computer keyboard 2-3 times).

3. Cleaning has not been an issue. It even came with a demineralizing tab to put in the tank to keep the water from causing a chalky build-up. Water does sit in the base when the tank has emptied, so I try to wipe out the excess every week or so.

4. Though the tank doesn''t fit perfectly in the bathroom sink to fill it, it is doable. All of the other ones I''ve had needed to be filled either in the tub or the kitchen sink.

5. The tank runs all night and into the day at half setting (perfect for a standard bedroom). The box says 8 hours per tank which is probably what it runs when at a higher setting.

6. This was one of the top-rated humidifiers on Consumer Reports. That should tell you something!

I''ve only been using the first for a month and the second for half that, but I am thrilled. I have a good feeling these will make it completely through the winter and be ready for next year! Highly, highly, highly recommended!

We like this humidifier but are discouraged at the price of the cartridges, which must be replaced every 30-40 fillings. $20 a cartridge is expensive. They keep the machines from building up minerals on the inside.

KRUPS XP5280 Pump Espresso Machine Save 54% Off

KRUPS XP5280 Pump Espresso Machine with KRUPS Precise Tamp Technology and Stainless Steel Housing, SilverI have used Krups espresso machines for over 25 years. This is my third Krups and it is stunningly superior to the previous models I used. (The last one lasted 18 years and was still in usable condition when I upgraded to the XP5280.) The taste of the espresso made by the XP5280 is vastly superior to that produced by the previous Krups model I owned, and to the espresso made by other brands of machine that my friends own. The coffee also arrives in the cup with a wonderfully thick crema. The taste is, I''m guessing, a result of the way the machine carefully controls the water temperature and way the pump and the head work together to control rate of flow of hot water through the coffee grains, in combination with the effectiveness of the auto-tamping mechanism. The auto-tamping is a great feature. (With my prior machine I was lazy about tamping and somewhat deterred from doing it properly by the way the pump seemed to be ''laboring'' when I over-tamped.) The auto-tamp gets the tamping just right. The milk-frother is a huge improvement over the one on the earlier model. It makes more than enough froth. (I had to get a bigger frothing jug to accommodate the froth.) It is also much easier to clean.

I see that other reviewers have had problems with the plastic latches on the frother breaking. I agree that they do look a bit fragile, so I am being careful with them. The unlatching process requires a bit of practice: you have to make sure the latch-locking ring is pulled all the way down before trying to pull the frother off the plastic thing at the end of the pipe.

[Update, July 14, 2012: Krups has taken note! A re-designed frother was released a few days ago, part number MS-623107, and it''s is a huge improvement. There are no fragile latches. It is secured by a twisting action. The kit ($11.99) includes the frother and a replacement plastic connector, to which the frother connects, that you screw onto the steam pipe. If your original frother has broken Krups will, I hope, send you the kit for free. My original frother hasn''t broken yet; but I bought a new kit just in case.]

[Further update, January 11, 2013: One of the latches on the original frother just snapped off as I was using it. It was rather alarming as the frother detached suddenly and steam exploded out of the naked pipe in a scary manner. I can see why Krups re-designed this. I attached the replacement twist-on frother and it is much easier to put on and take off, and much less likely to break and cause injury. If the machine you receive is older stock, with the old-style frother that has with three claws, immediately call Krups and insist that they send you a free replacement.]

Overall, everything about the machine exceeds what I had expected and I recommend this top-of-the-home-line model without reservation.

Some small observations (I hope Krups Product Development team will note these):

(a) The instruction manual could be improved. For example:

When periodically doing a full cleaning of the brewing head, and removing the plastic part with the nozzles, the manual says "replace the black plastic part and turn to the right until the two arrows line up", whereas it should really say "replace the black plastic part, making sure that it is positioned with the arrow on it close to the arrow on the metal part, and turn clockwise until the two arrows line up". (If you replace it in poor lighting conditions, getting the arrows about 180 degrees apart, it will get badly stuck and extremely hard to pull out without damaging the plastic.)

The "Problems" table in the manual says that all three button-lights flashing means that the steam knob is in the steam position. What it should stay is "Either the steam knob has been left in the steam position (or is maybe just a little bit off the "O" position), or the water tank is empty."

(b) With respect to the comment above, about the steam knob, the "feel" of the knob as you get to the "O" position is a little odd: it feels as through you might be straining something when you apply enough turning force to actually get it all the way to the "O". I''d prefer a much more solid stop sensation.

(c) It would have been nice if the steam knob had been designed with a "hold" position, at which the steam is shut off but the machine remains in steam mode (i.e., does not go into the cool-down cycle to prepare for coffee-making). If you need to pause steam making (e.g., to cope with overspilling froth or to change over to frothing a second jug of milk) you have no choice but to turn the steam off, wait while the cool-down cycle finishes, press the steam button again, and wait until the machine reaches steam temperature again -all a needless waste of time, water, and electricity.

(d) The turning force you need to apply to turn the brewing-head handle as it is auto-tamping (note: I am not trying to turn it too far), is quite a lot relative to the weight of the machine. If you put the machine on a very smooth surface or on a plastic drip mat, the machine will tend to rotate as you operate the handle (particularly when the water tank has very little water in it) unless you place a steadying hand on the top of the machine. The machine would have felt a lot steadier if Krups had put some weights in the base.

However, these are small points that just have to be noted and do not diminish the pleasure of using this excellent machine.

A frother-cleaning tip: after using the frother (whether or not you plan to remove it to give it a proper cleaning), with the machine in the ready-to-make-coffee state (= left three lamps lit, steam lamp not lit), put a cup or jug under the frother and turn the steam knob a little way for a few seconds. This will cause hot water to squirt through the steam outlet, clearing any milk residue from the steam channel of the frother. This prevents the frother becoming clogged by dried milk residue.

Being fairly new to Espresso machines I researched reviews on Amazon and elsewhere, and decided on a Krups XP5280. Too bad, no review ever mentioned the fact that, and this was confirmed to me by Krups Customer Service, you need to wait at least 15 minutes between successive cups of espresso, even longer if you used the steam wand! If you don''t wait this long the water is diverted to the drip tray instead of the filter holder. WHAT!! Before this was confirmed by Krups itself I could only think I had a defective unit. Upon hearing that this is "normal", I promptly returned it to the seller, of course at my own expense. I didn''t like that the machine couldn''t be used under cabinets that don''t give you enough space to fully pull out the reservoir which needs to be pulled out upwards. But I did like the Krups automatic tamping, the set amount (programmable) amount of espresso delivered, and the puck ejector in the filter holder. I only wished someone had mentioned in a review the problem with needing to wait so long between successive cups using the Krups XP5280, it would have saved me the wasted time, and cost, to return it to the seller! If you only need to make one cup, or are willing to wait 15+ minutes between cups, then perhaps the Krups XP5280 is for you. It was not for me.

I purchased this machine at the recommendation of a knowledgeable salesperson at a local cooking store called Great News (Pacific Beach). I really liked the programmable feature, after returning a different model that did not have the preset for espresso pour duration. I also like the "precise tamp" feature as it saves a step and works well. I find that by using a Cuisinart Conical Burr grinder to freshly grind the beans(I use illy beans exclusively), and by following the directions for proper priming(1st use), cleaning, and operation the resulting espresso and latte drinks are excellent. It consistently turns out great tasting espresso with generous amounts of "crema", and steams milk well(I recommend getting an instant read thermometer for steamed milk which indicates proper heating temerature between 150 and 170 degrees mine is from a company called CDN). One minor issue is the steam nozzle. Mine did break after about 4 months one of the clips that hold the nozzle to the steam wand broke I called the company and they sent me a new one. Pluses when used properly this machine turns out great and repeatable results for both espresso and steamed milk. Minus Steam wand nozzle must be handled with care and cleaned often. By the way folks make sure you read the directions on how to disassemble and clean the nozzle if you don''t it gets pretty disgusting inside.

I''ve owned this expresso maker since July of 2011. I am on my 3rd nozzle. Since I can''t find nozzles for sale on the internet anymore, I finally decided to call the Krups warranty hotline since everything is still under warranty. First they told me that the expresso maker is warrantied for 2 years instead of the 1 year in the manual. Then they notified me that the nozzle is being redesigned. They will send me the "older style" (that is, the one I have now) to hold me over until the new one comes out in Summer 2012. Then they put me on their mailing list to get the newly designed nozzle when it comes out. The hotline person was helpful and acknowledged that there was a design problem with the existing nozzle (in so many words), so I am glad Krups is not in denial of the facts. I like the expresso maker -especially the auto tamping feature and the pre-measured pulls. So if you already own one of these, don''t despair. I recommend you call Krups and get your name on their list for the new nozzle.

5/3/12 Just received the newly redesigned nozzle from Krups. It is much heftier than the original. Still made of plastic but much, much thicker. The nozzle body is now a single piece with a stainless steel outer tube which simply presses onto the front of the nozzle; looks like it mostly for show. Gone are the 3 flimsy tabs which are prone to breakage. The new nozzle now locks onto the steam arm with a twist. Because the new nozzle attaches differently, you also have to replace the plastic base which screws onto the steam arm.

It is now 1 year since purchasing this machine. I just replaced the filter holder because of corrosion. The plastic handle started to crack and the button which locks the filter holder started sticking, preventing the holder from locking into place on the expresso maker. Now the button doesn''t pop up like when it was new. Looks like pewter underneath the chrome plating. I make 2 cups, double shots, every day. It would be nice to have a stainless steel filter holder but you would have to buy an expresso machine which costs twice as much to get that. And as I examine other machines in this price range, they all seem to be made of the same materials. So I understand the shortcuts made to sell a machine at this price point. And I like the expresso it makes.

12/19/12 I have been through 2 of the newly designed nozzles. They both have cracked from the heat and eventually leak along the centerline of the tube. Lasted about 3 months. I called the Krups customer service center again and the person said she''d never hear of this before. However, she quickly said they would send me another replacement. I think I''ll keep doing this until the 2-year warranty runs out.

I have owned this unit for 16 months. During that time I have gone through 7, count them 7 frothing wands. Three before the "new design" and 4 after. Had to wait over 2 months, for the new frothing wand, because they were out of stock at the factory. That tells me lots of people were having the same issues. Not spending one more penny on a new frothing wand. I am going to buy a "real" unit and once agsin relax with my morning latte. The customer service department acted like I was bothering them. GOODBYE KRUPS. NEVER AGAIN!

Ionways Isis Water Ionizer (Jupiter Isis)

Ionways Isis Water IonizerThe product was delivered quickly and easy to set up. My main problem was finding a faucet to hook it up to. I have lots of faucets but they are a little fancy with pull out spouts and don''t allow for the machine to screw on to it. I had to put it up in my bedroom and hook it to a faucet up there so it is a little inconvenient. I still use it to drink healthy water but don''t get to cook with it or clean so much with the acidic water. It is a nice looking unit and does hat it says. I am happy with it.

Brita Slim Water Filter Pitcher Save 32% Off

Brita Slim Water Filter PitcherWe got this pitcher as a wedding gift and we''ve been using it now for over 3 years. It''s the same picther, we aren''t particularly careful with it, and still it looks and works like when we first got it. It''s a great size and fits nicely in our fridge. The sides stay clear (unlike some pitchers that yellow) and the top is solid. We were so happy with it we got one for someone else as a wedding gift some time ago.

Some others have mentioned black granules, but we''ve only seen them in the top of the pitcher (the filter area, not the area that filtered-water goes that you drink). It''s our non-scientific understanding that those are part of the carbon-filtering system in the Brita filters. In the 3 years of use, I don''t think we''ve ever seen them in our filtered drinking water if we have, it was maybe once.

The only other con for the pitcher is you may have to wait a while to fill it. The top part that holds water that is passing through the Brita filter is smaller than the part that holds filtered water, so it takes about two to three fills of the top part to fill the filtered part. The filtering is also a little slow, but not a problem.

This is my second Brita Slim Pitcher the first served me well for a long time, until I dropped it on a brick patio. It''s great for a small fridge like mine. I hate the waste of bottled water and use my Brita to fill a Nalgene bottle instead. One of my favorite features is the the dial that tells me when to replace the filter (because I can never remember when I put the last one in...)

I''ve owned Pur and GE water pitchers, but always go back to Brita.

One last comment if you soak a new filter for 15 minutes in a glass of water before using it for the first time as per the directions you won''t see ANY "black granules" (charcoal) in your water.

The cost of bottled water adds up and can burn a hole in your wallet, especially if you''re a starving student. The Brita pitcher is affordable and saves you more money. And it''s also a healthy approach to drinking sodas which adds a great deal of sugar and pounds. Don''t let the size fool you. It''s not heavy and doesn''t take up room. I highly recommend getting this product as to buying spring water in bulk and gallons. You won''t feel that you''re wasting money and you will get six to eight glasses of water each day.

I got this for my dorm room, and for three girls, this pitcher is too small. This one, the smallest available, is too big for tiny dorm fridges, so you might as well get something bigger that''ll let you go longer between refills.

Otherwise, this worked great. I got this because the water in New Haven is comparable to pool water, and the chlorine taste and smell completely disappears after using the filter. Good stuff.

I''ve used Brita pitchers/filters for years. They used to be very good. In the last couple of years however their quality control has gotten worse and worse. The last few filters I bought all leaked large amounts of the black granules (about a teaspoonful a week). I don''t like having black granules swimming in my glass of water. We''re using filters to get rid of junk not add it in! When I contacted Brita about this several times via email they wouldn''t respond (other than to send me an automated response saying they''d get back to me within a few days).

Buy a different brand. Brita is becoming a joke due to very poor quality control.
