Wildkin 12-Ounce Steel Water Bottle Save 18% Off

Wildkin Horses in Pink 12-Ounce Steel Water BottleThis is a great water bottle. My 2 1/2 year old can pop the top off the spout, open it with her teeth, and have a drink without any help. It''s also nice and durable, and she loves the print. She calls it her cowgirl water. Another nice feature is the very wide mouth that makes this bottle easy to clean.

Bought this for my horse living first grader and the water is still cold when she comes home from school! Perfect!

For the price, this system exceeded my expectations. Package included everything I needed for a basic installation and appears to be of high quality materials. Instructions were thorough which made installation easy enough and I was pleased to find no leaks when I initiated water flow. Overall, I''m very satisfied with this product.

This is my first Ro experience, everything seems to be working, excellent. I contacted the seller with questions before the purchase, and they responded honorably. I connected my refrigerator to the system successfully. The out flow pressure is ok 8 psi. but slower then regular plain filter.

I have moderate plumbing and construction experience. The install instructions confused me a little, so I wont say its easy or simple. My Mother could not install this, but my Father could taking a little time.

Waterwise 4000 Water Steam Distiller Save 17% Off

Waterwise 4000 Water Steam Distiller - Glass Jug / ContainerWe bought our distiller, which is like this one, years ago under the Kenmore name. We purchased it because we moved into a house with well water and we were expecting our first baby... and well, you know how it is, we were worried about water quality.

Well our darlin'' is now 9 years old and the distiller is still going strong, providing us with flavorless water for drinking. Having lived with well water now, I can tell you that it prolongs the life of coffee machines and steamers by reducing mineral deposits on heating elements and what-not.

And we liked this machine enough that we have purchased another Waterwise unit. This second unit is more attractive, but to tell you the truth, I like this older version better. For one thing, it doesn''t have any plastic tubing which can crack and/or leave plastic particles in the water.

If appearance isn''t a problem, I''d definitely buy this distiller. This system is just simple and best. Ours has run for years and the only thing I would do differently is that I would clean it with vinegar more often so the mineral deposits wouldn''t build up and make the interior so unaesthetic.

Notes: Like our other Waterwise, this distiller is fairly noisy.

Pam T~

Purchased this about 2 months ago. I live in the mountains and our water comes out of a spring, which is exposed in a creek for about 10-15 feet. I am gratefull to no longer be exposed to the high doses of chlorine and who knows what else through our water as I was living in the city where you could literally smell it in the water. But we do not have a effective home filtering system to weed out any living org.s as I would like. I have kidney issues due to my ignorant diet and life style of old.

I now need to baby my organs and have adapted a much healtier diet and lifestyle and have experienced many benefits. Although I have more energy, no headaches and heart burn, warts, bladder infections and other afflictions of years ago, I have to be very carfull what I take in especially where my liver and kidneys are concerned! I was purchasing nearly 20 gallons of distilled water weekly for tea, drinking and produce wash and soaking. What a pain! The cost may have only been about 70 cents a bottle but the lifting, transporting and storing was for the birds. Considering that these also come in plastic bottles that have sat on a truck and in a warehouse and in my trunk, I can only imagine the contaminants I was still taking in.

This distiller just had to be given a chance. I dont have alot of money so I want the most "bang for my buck" and my health resonably possible.

I have worked this baby to the max., sometimes pushing it to pump out 2-3 gals a day. Has worked wonderfully! I know many reviewers dont like the glass jug with it.......I however do. I have not attached the handle and it fits just fine up next to the distiller. I just need to be extremely carefull to not drop when moving it.

I have so benefited from this appliance I am considering purchasing one for a friend with health and water issues. Only thing is I think I will get same distiller only not pay the extra for the jug and just tell her to find a glass jar or jug that might best suit her.The glass jug is really thin and seemns easy to chip or break. I have my eye open for a thicker one for myself as well. Probably for less than $45.

I highly recommend this distiller. If I can give it longer breaks I try and pour some white vinegar in and let it soak in distiller overnite or while I am out for the day, then wipe and rinse it out before next batch. Easy enough. Gratefull to have this appliance :o)

After two years the thermostatic switch in my Waterwise 4000 started going wacky. After the unit finished distilling the water it would shut itself off. But then for some reason it would turn back on again. I am afraid it has become a fire hazard.

I recently bought a new Model 4000 distiller that came with a glass bottle / collector instead of the usual plastic collecting jug I am very disappointed with the glass unit; it is not of the exceptionally high quality I have grown accustomed to vis-à-vis Waterwise distillers. I strongly suggest the decision to furnish the glass unit with the distiller instead of the plastic jug used for many years is a serious marketing mistake; sadly I cannot find the formerly furnished plastic collection bottle listed for sale on the Waterwise Web site as an individual item.

Specific issues concerning the glass collector include:

The lid and pour cover do not "snap in place", they are not a snug fits, rather, both fit loosely.

The lid keeper is poorly designed and, at best, only marginally secures the lid.

The adapter cover is not secured to the unit thus promoting its quick loss.

The vertical handle promotes bulkiness; the side handle on the plastic is a much better design.

Glass breaks, BPA free appropriate plastic is virtually unbreakable.

I recently purchased this item and am very happy with it. I am happy with the quality of the product. It was very easy to put together and get started distilling water. The only negative for me is the design of the glass pitcher. I transfer the distilled water from the glass pitcher to a plastic jug in order to store the water in my fridge. The lip on the glass pitcher will dribble water every where when you start to pour from it. You have to be very careful. My solution is to use a large funnel to catch the dribble as I pour the water into the jug.

Other than that design flaw, I am happy with this product.

It does what it says it will do. I have a friend who says hers has operated , trouble free for a number of years and I hope mine will do so also. I would recommend purchasing this to anyone who wants pure, safe drinking water.

Dyson Airblade AB 02

Dyson Airblade AB 02, 110-120V, Die Cast Aluminum, Hygienic Hand DryerWhen I first used a Dyson dryer at an airport I thought they were cool and worked good. They will dry your hands.

Now that the dryers are getting older I have noticed that the Dyson will hold water (that is blown off your hands)in the bottom and then leak on the floor (look at the customer images loaded). This water is germ filled and NOT sanitary.

One customer image shows how the unit is very corroded. Holding the water caused this. If you are going to buy a hand dryer buy the Excel Dryer.XLERATOR XL-BW Automatic Surface-Mounted Hand Dryer with White Thermoset (BMC) Cover, 12-11/16" Height x 11-3/4" Width x 6-11/16" Depth

I tried one of these for the first time today, as it had been installed in our local gym and the paper towel dispenser had been removed. Most air dryers leave something to be desired, so I was excited to see how this one worked. It wasn''t difficult to work out how to use it, but the opening for the hands is so narrow, I figured I would have to be extra careful to avoid touching the sides and contaminating my freshly washed hands. I got my fingers in about 2 inches and the air blower came on. With my fingers about half way in, the moving air buffeted my hands around and I wasn''t able to avoid touching the sides! I pulled my hands out before they were even a little dry and tried to shake the rest of the water off. Later, I checked with the lady at the front desk, and she said that if she is really, really careful, she can use these without touching the sides. I looked at her hands, and they were tiny. My hands are large.

The good:

This is an attractive unit, and looks very modern. I also thought it was not as noisy as some high velocity hand dryers I have used. It turned off quickly after I pulled my hands out, which saves energy. It might be more hygienic than using a regular bathroom towel which is changed once a week, so this could be useful in a private bathroom which is used by only one person.

The bad:

If you wanted to design a way to spread germs in a public place, this is the answer.

Hopefully, the design can eventually be improved. As it is, I''m going to lobby to have it removed from our gym and have something else put in its place.

Like most people, I wince when I see an electric hand dryer in a public restroom -I know that I will try to use it and end up with either damp hands or I''ll walk away wiping my hands on my trousers. Well, I have used the Dyson Airblade dryer in four or five different restrooms scattered around the world and it really works!

You just put your hands in the slot; the air turns on (no heat needed) and strips the water off of your hands as you slowly raise them out of the unit. This is a revolution in electric hand dryers.

I wish every manager of a public bathroom would buy one or two of these. I would even be willing to give up having paper towels as a backup.

These hand dryers are great, we have these at the medical center I work at they''re extremely efficient and help to create a more sanitary environment when working around patients. These negative reviews make me laugh, the only way you''re going to touch the sides are if you''re 400 pounds with pudgy hands or you''re the clumsiest, laziest person and just shove your hands in them like a gorilla.

Bionaire BCM646 Cool Mist Tower Humidifier Save 21% Off

Bionaire BCM646 Cool Mist Tower HumidifierThis is NOT a "cool mist" humidifier. When one thinks of a cool mist humidifier, you assume that it makes a cooled flow of steam from a nozzle, like you see in the department store floor models. That is not what this model does at all, there is no "mist". This model operates on the same principle as a "swamp cooler" or "evaporative cooler" that some of you may be familiar with, or even be using to cool your homes with in the summer. Basically, the water from the tank fills a tray at the bottom of the unit. The filter pads, which are actually wicks, rest in the tray and soak up the water. The fan pulls the air through the filter/wick from which the water will then evaporate, thus humidifying the air which passes through the unit. Simplified: A fan sucks air through a wet pad. So, no "cool mist", but it does increase the humidity of the air.

The drawback of using this method is that the unit becomes less effective the more humid the room gets, unlike a steam-type humidifier which will keep putting out the same amount of moisture until shut off. I guess one could look at it one way and say that the unit will not over-humidify a room, but it also means that if one desires a high humidity level, that level will be very difficult to reach.

So, the good things about the unit:

The unit has a small footprint, which is nice. It also has a decently sized tank which lasts a while for us. Like the previous reviewer, we also live in the Northeast, and I can tell you that right now in the Winter, it is VERY dry here. 25% humidity or so. We got this unit to improve conditions for both of us because we were waking up with dry throats, and to ease conditions for my wife who has intermittent asthma. The unit has 6 settings: Low/Medium/High and humidistat controlled Low/Medium/High. The humidistat will allow you to set the unit to turn off/on just like a thermostat for your heater when a desired humidity is reached. Under humidistat control using the low setting, a tank of water will last about a day and a half, which is pretty good for us. Some folks have complained about the fan noise on this model and it''s silver sister model, but it doesn''t bother us at all on low. I guess if you''re used to a dead quiet room, it might be an issue, but we prefer a very small amount of white noise in the background. The unit comes with 2 extra filter pairs, which is nice (1 pair required in the unit).

The not so great things about the unit:

It must be on a completely level surface, or the water in the tray can spill. It is NOT a cool mist humidifier, as the name indicates. It has a little meter on the top that tells you when the filter must be cleaned. The indicator must be completely arbitrary or useless, I haven''t figured it out yet. Sometimes it says the filter must be cleaned as soon as the unit is turned on and then indicates "good" after 5 minutes. Sometimes with a completely new filter and no water, it says they need to be cleaned. We just clean the filters once a week and call it good. The humidistat has issues with reading/indicating the correct humidity I''ve read in other reviews, ours seems to be OK. Just something to keep in mind. The nice large tank has no handle to hold while filling, and because of the length of the tank you''ll need to fill it in your bathtub most likely. Because of the lack of a handle, be careful not to drop the tank as it is prone to cracking (as other reviewers have found out).

Overall:

We like the unit for the price. It does humidify the room, but not as well as a true "mist" or steam type of humidifier. The filters are a bit of a pain, but the high end humidifiers all have more expensive filter systems, so this one is cheap in comparison. The faulty filter meter is a negative, and the fact that the name is very misleading is a huge negative (-1 star for that alone). Don''t get me wrong, we''d probably get this unit again, we just feel that the misleading product title (in our opinion) is bad for consumers; and there should be some design changes, such as a handle on the tank for filling. So feel free to buy the unit, just realize what your are really getting!

We just purchased this item in the past week, so this is more a note of first impressions than a full in depth review.

A couple of things I like about it are the small footprint & easy access to the filters for future replacement.

Although aesthetically pleasing, the units poorly designed reservoir is a royal PIA to fill.

The opening to fill the tank is on the bottom and is sealed with a cap that you can easily turn to open. The problem is that the top of the tank comes to such a sharp angle that you can not rest the tank upside down and walk away while it fills because it will certainly topple over. In fact even just holding on its end while filling can be a challenge in a smooth sink who''s bottom is slanted towards the drain.

This might not be too annoying an issue if you have a great water supply and adequate pressure to fill the tank very quickly. But because the water in our area is so heavily chlorinated we use one of those filters that threads onto the end of your faucet; which greatly reduces the chlorine, but has a fairly weak amount of pressure, so I am standing there for awhile holding the tank with both hands & waiting for it to slowly fill. One thing I have done to speed up the process is to have a couple of bottles already filled that I can pour into the tank. This still is a PIA though because you either have to have one person hold the tank while the other pours or you have to hold & tuck the tank kind of under your arm while pour with the other hand.

The product description states:

"The unit produces a cool mist that is dispersed by a powerful, yet quiet fan."

Powerful? yes. Quiet, uh-uh; even on its lowest setting this thing makes a good amount of noise. We have it in our bedroom and, although I usually am so tired I fall asleep quickly, if I wake up during the night that fan is all I hear.

The product description further states:

"It will run up to 36 hours on a full tank of water."

Hmmm.. maybe if we lived in a more humid environment...like the amazon rain forest. In our case, in the North East US, with the fan on low, the tank will last all night and some hours after that but it will be dry before noon.

On the plus side it does do what we want which is add moisture to the room to relieve static electricity and dried sinuses.

we have not played around with the control settings more than just to turn it on auto. The unit is supposed to tell you what percentage of moisture you have in the room, however even running all night the gauge does not really change to anything higher than 27, so I don''t really have much faith in it.

There is also a gauge mounted on top of the unit which is supposed to give you an indication as to the remaining life of the filter(s)we have not had it long enough yet to tell how reliable that is though.

I hope at some point in time AMAZON lets us more fine tune our star rating, I really would give this 2 1/2 out of 5. I do not hate the unit; after all it does what we want, but the design of the reservoir leaves a great deal to be desired

Perhaps I will at a future date post an update, but for now I just wanted to make sure that potential buyers have a better idea what they are considering buying.

Have a Magical New Year!

Buy Bionaire BCM646 Cool Mist Tower Humidifier Now

I agree with the previous two. The low fan speed setting is too noisy for a bedroom.

The tank is indeed tricky to hold steady while filling in the kitchen sink. As a matter of fact it just slipped out of my hands after almost full (the bottom is slanted and slippery to hold steady resting in the sink) and cracked! Now I have to get a replacement tank! It is very pleasing esthetically and has a small footprint to hide behind funiture. I like the 3 fan speeds and automatic humidity settings. It will shut off when it reaches the set value and turn back on like a thermostat works for your heat. You can''t expect it to increase the humidity of a whole house so the area or volume of space must be taken into account when determining if it alone will raise the humidity enough.

A full 1.3 gal tank will last less than 24 hrs on low speed.

I bought this Bionaire from Costco last year. I use it to humidify the first floor of my 2700 square foot home. Although that may be alot to ask of a single unit to handle, the unit managed to bring up the humidity level enough for my needs. It has a huge water tank that requires a refill about twice a day, so it''s evident how much water it is putting into the air. It is programmable to the humidity level you want, and has 3 fan speeds in case you want to watch TV so you can turn it down. The filters lasted a full winter season of constant use. The filter gage is accurate enough, but may take a few tanks of water for it to accurately sense the life left in the filters.

I was online looking to buy another when I saw these bad reviews, so I thought I would set the record straight from my experience. I plan to buy another for my 2nd floor.

This humidifier words in my big room only if the heater is turned off, an the windows are completly shut... It''s winter, and I won''t be without the heater on... so what is the point?

My advise is, buy another one.

The only plus is that tells you how humid the room is, and turns off by itself if it has reached the level you want... but if it will reach that level, it''s another story.

The indicator to change/clean the filter varies every day... so it''s not reliable. One day it''s telling me to clean, and in the next is clean, when I haven''t done a thing... crazy hum?

I don''t have the box anymore... I will see anyways if home depot takes it back without the box.

Shop-vac 906-87-19 Universal Tool Adapter Save 24% Off

Shop-vac 906-87-19 Universal Tool AdapterI knew I was guessing as I could not find the exact measurements for this adapter''s capacities. I am research oriented and checked multiple websites, product listings and reviews to try to learn the sizes offered by this unit. I could not find them given anywhere so I bought this with fingers crossed.

Here are the measurements of the adapter by Shop Vac 90687. OD are 2.5" 2.0" 1.5" 1.25" and 1.0". (Most manufacturers cite the OD ((Outer diameter)) when listing a measurement).

The measurements for the inner diameter were 2.3" 1.5" 1.25" 1.0" and .75". By the way, the overall length before you cut it down at all is 6.75". I cut off the last 2 smaller sections and the length was reduced to 4.35". Either length may not work for your needs if space is tight.

Ultimately this unit did not work out for my application. Now that you have the measurements posted, I hope this helps some of you as it is going to work if your requirements align. I will keep mine since I cut it to measure and hope to use it on something in the future.

I have used a couple of these devices to connect the dust port on tools to vacume hose. Funny how there are standard sizes of dust collection and vacume hoses, but every tool seems to have a dust collection port that is in some odd size. Nothing fits. This adaptor gets in between the odd sizes of tools and standard size of hose. You can easily trim this adaptor to fit either an inside diameter or outside diameter of the adaptor. Like I have said before, it does what it says it will do.

Buy Shop-vac 906-87-19 Universal Tool Adapter Now

I''ve tried several step adaptors, but this Shop-Vac 9068700 universal tool adapter has worked most often. I''m now back to purchase two or three more.

This adaptor fits over (or replaces) a 2 1/2-inch exhaust port and can be cut, stretched, or clamped to fit nearly any vacuum cleaner hose between 5/8-inch to just over 2-inches. The rubber-like material can be stretched (occasionally with some effort) to fit tight connections. I''ve even fit this over exhaust ports the same size. Soap with a little water (and rubber gloves to improve grip) can help with really tight connections. Loose connections can be secured wih hose clamps. Hoses can fit either inside and over the various incremental sections. Unused sections can be cut away with a razor knife (box cutter, etc) or power tool (bandsaw, etc).

In one application, I replaced a bolt-on exhaust port with this adaptor (that''s what the four screw holes are for) and then cut the oppposite end to fit my vacuum hose. With other applications, the large ends were simply slipped over existing exhaust ports, with the opposite ends again cut to fit my vacuum hose. Finally, several were used to add exhaust ports to home-built projects (downdraft table, etc).

This adapter may not impress others or attract girlfriends, but it often does wonders with vacuum cleaner hose connections.

0.5 Liter Carbonating Bottles in White

0.5 Liter Carbonating Bottles in WhiteThe bottles themselves are totally fine, and I much prefer the 500mL size to the 1L bottles that came with the soda maker. at the time i purchased these, my local bed bath and beyond only carried the larger bottles. my two main complaints with these are:

1) the bottles are not dishwasher safe. why not? nalgene makes polycarbonate bottles that are BPA-free and dishwasher safe. I assume these bottles contain BPA and that is the reason they cannot be heated in the dishwasher. it''s annoying to wash them manually. maybe i''ve been spoiled by the dishwaher.

2) they have an unusually wide lip on the base of the plastic piece adhered to the bottom of the bottle. so despite their smaller total volume, they still do not fit in my car''s cupholders.

edit: since buying these, iv''e seen that bed bath and beyond now carries a 500mL bottle that is dishwasher safe AND has no lip around the bottom.

For me the bottles are functional and do serve a purpose, but in the most basic ways it seems that thought or time wasn''t put into the design.

It looks like a mini soda bottle but with a plastic bottom on it. This is not a streamlined normal bottom, but a hard lipped one that looks like it snaps on. At that, both bottles I received weren''t mounted straight in the bottom, and they''re glued in.

On top of that, there is a dob of glue in the base of each that is brown and looks like soda syrup-like a stain or dirt in the bottom of the bottle.

So all in all they function, carbonate properly and seal, but from a simple perspective they look silly. Picture attached.

I absolutely hate these bottles. I''m not even going to use them. The picture is so misleading. They have done some flaring bottom on this which is ''UGLY'' and now it doesn''t fit in my cup holder. I would have never bought it had they stipulated that it''s different from the standard bottle. I feel that I wasted my money.

The vendor needs to post a proper picture. The picture is misleading as it does not illustrate a major difference between this bottle and every other bottle out there.

My husband recently bought these smaller bottles for me and I found, after using the larger bottles, they have a tendency to blow soda water all over the place. You can''t wait for the "buzz" when filling these as you will have water everywhere. Just a short shot of the soda gas and then remove the bottle for capping. I too am not happy about the type of plastic used in these bottles and the wide base, as an another reviewer noted. Also, I am constantly refilling these which, I guess, means I''m hydrating a lot but it also means a number of trips to the kitchen daily for a refill. If in doubt, go with the bigger bottles. You can then pour into a smaller bottle that fits your car''s cup holders if you need to be on the go.

Just disappointed with this product. I bottoms attached to flimsy plastic stands, the bottle can not stand up straight without this stand. Doesn''t fit into cup holders in both cars. These can not go in the dishwasher. For less than $10 maybe this would be ok with this product but at 18.95 they are a rip-off. Keep looking.

Replacement Pre-Filter Cartridge 4-Pack Rhino® Whole House Systemwe bought these for our aquasana whole house filter. i had alway suspected our city water was bad but i had no idea how bad until i started using these for our system. we changed them once a month and to see them go from pure white to the nastiest brown you could imagine in 30 days. wow. our water now is cleaner, no particles floating around, the chlorine smell is gone and the water acutally feels softer.

We purchased the Aquasana whole house water system August 2011. After 1 year, it was the best investment we have ever made for our bodies and our home. Tasty, clear drinking water and wonderful showers that are free of chemicals and smells. Once you see how brown and full of particles the filter is after a very short time, you know you made the right decision. Nutriteam Countertop Water Distiller Stainless

Nutriteam Countertop Water Distiller Stainless, Plastic CollectionI began purchasing distilled water by the gallon not too long ago. Soon afterwards I realized that I was investing my money into another company who would have to clean the water for me, + spending money on transportation and the cost of plastic pollution by having to create and manufacture all those plastic water jugs.

I looked at many other distiller but this one stood out for me. I was going to get the model with the glass carafe, but since my water won''t be sitting long inside the plastic jugs anyway it would not be a health concern at all. (24hrs at most)

I like to use my distiller during off peak hours. In my area the increased electricity rates are during 5-9am and 4:30 to 8pm I believe. So I will usually set the distiller to run and finish outside of those times

I suggest that you purchase a re-suable water jug that can be left on the counter top or inside the refrigerator so that you will always have a backup of water to use while you make some more distilled water with the machine. For the first two weeks you will run out of water fairly quickly as you hurriedly gulp up the fresh tasting distilled water from the machine. My beginning with this machine cracks me up! Anyhow I know you will love this machine and it will provide you with really great tasting and healthy water. If your already reading this review, it is more than likely that you are on the path to better health through love and education. Remember to pass on the helpful knowledge to other people who are lost in the dark night of life. This way we can all rise together :)

Peace, Blessing''s & Love

I have had this distiller for over a year now, and I am using it every two days on average. I am always amazed at the quality of the water coming out of it (and the goo at the bottom of the tank that the unit separated from the water after a few runs...). Just pour hot water into it, and after 5 hours it''s done. I never bothered with the charcoal. The unit is somewhat noisy but not to the point of being a problem (the a/c unit is far noisier). It has to be cleaned every few runs, and I use citric acid which is easily obtainable on Amazon; I got five pounds of it last year and it looks as it will last for 4-5 years. The cleaning process is straightforward; no scrubbing is involved, the citric acid dissolves the residue.

Other reviewers mentionned a metallic taste. It did happen the first 1-2 runs but not since.

It isn''t clear how the other reviewer had issues with steam coming OUT of this unit-this is a pretty simple machine based on an even simpler concept. There are three main parts:

1. Steel cylinder (body) with two female 3-prong sockets

2. Top (condenser/fan) that sits on top of the body and seal via a silicone-looking ring. There''s a little separate spout you should attach to the output to ensure 100% output collection.

3. The actual collection container. Yes, it is plastic (polypropylene), and no, it will not kill you, your baby, nor your dog. We specifically wanted the stainless steel body/PP collector combination because the stainless look is attractive, while the PP container is lighter than glass and won''t make a mess if we drop it.

You fill item (1) with tap water to the "fill" line (marked on the inside). Take item (2) and attach the little spout to it. Put assembled item (2) on top. Plug the cord coming from item (2) into the corresponding female socket on (1). Plug the other power cable to the other female socket on (1). Plug into wall. If this is your first use, the fan should start and you''re good to go; for subsequent runs, you''d just press the reset button and the same thing happens.

Our tap water is pretty hard-over 380 ppm. The distilled water this little guy makes is a blip on the radar (

Sunpentown SD-65E Energy Star 65-Pint Dehumidifier Save 19% Off

Sunpentown SD-65E Energy Star 65-Pint DehumidifierI attempted to disassemble the unit yesterday evening, but the bucket would not come out, and there was a silver dollar sized patch of ice on the outside of the unit near where the gravity drain nozzle is on the interior. I turned off the unit and left it to thaw overnight. This morning, I went down and removed the housing and everything appeared to be normal. So, I reassembled the unit, but left the left hand hold insert out, so I could see inside the unit. I plugged it in and let it run for several hours, and it became apparent that what is happening is that the defrost function is no longer working (which is the same problem that my previous dehumidifier developed), so ice is forming and blocking the drainage through the elbow that either drains into the bucket, or the gravity drain hose, depending on if the drain hose is connected. The design of the unit is such that, if the normal drain path is obstructed, there is an "overflow" drain hole on the opposite and higher side of the draining channel, that drains into the bucket. I also observed that the evaporator coils iced up across the entire width of the unit, up to about 3/4 of the entire evaporator surface, until I finally shut it down and unplugged it. Since the unit only has a 1 year limited warranty, and it would cost too much to ship it anywhere to have it fixed, it would appear that I have just paid $200+ for one year of operation. I am nonplussed. I sincerely hope that anyone that was persuaded to purchase this based on my initial review has much better luck that I have had, and in the event that they don''t, I sincerely apologize. Longevity is something that is impossible to predict, so my initial assessment, while accurate, has subsequently been rendered invalid due to the one year lifespan of the product. It makes me question why I bothered to voice my opinion in the first place. From now on, I will reserve judgment, and review, until such time as I feel I can have confidence in the product... in the world of dehumidifiers, this was another sad and expensive lesson. I have revised my rating to 1 star. I went to a big box store today and bought another unit, along with their 4 year "extended warranty" option. If history is any indication, they will be seeing me either next year or the year after with the then defective unit and my receipt in hand.

UPDATE 05/13/12 Game Warden requested an update since it has been a year... so I''m back. Which is uncannily coincidental, since I was intending to come back for an update anyway, due to an issue that has arisen. Which is: Now the unit seems to be filling the bucket rather than the water draining out the drain hose. Others described this problem earlier, and I attributed it to them perhaps having the hose running uphill, or coils in the hose, which was preventing the water from draining correctly. Suddenly this Spring, my dehumidifier developed the same problem, and NOTHING has changed... LITERALLY... it is sitting in the exact same position with the exact same hose going from the unit to the sump pump. I guess my next step is to take the housing off from the unit and try to determine why this is now happening (which isn''t an exercise that I am looking forward to undertaking). But I would revise my initial assessment to include that you should be wary of the drainage issue as reported. I will update my review once I have determined why this issue has developed, if I can come to a conclusive determination. Stay tuned...

UPDATE 08/09/11 Bad John requested an update... so here goes... after 4 months, still very satisfied. During the colder months, it never really did go much lower than 48% when the temperature was around 60 in the basement, it got down to around 45% RH and that was as good as it could do. Although 45% humidity at 60 degrees was certainly acceptable. For the past few weeks we have had outdoor temperatures running between 80 and nearly 100 degrees with beastly humidity (at least for the northeast). My basement has been in the mid to upper 70''s and I have the control on the dehumidifier set for 45%. It is currently 75 degrees and 40% humidity, at least according to the thermometer/hygrometer sitting on the shelf 3 feet away from the unit. The unit cycles off and on rather frequently, but it does not run continuously, although that is obviously a very subjective observation that would be influenced by outdoor and indoor temperatures, RH, rainfall, and water infiltration into the basement drainage/sump, as well as the setting of the dehumidifier controls. So overall, I would still recommend this as a solid choice. Longevity remains to be seen, but so far, so good...

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

My initial synopsis of this unit based on 3 hours of ownership:

PROS:

o VERY quiet... makes you wonder if it is really working at first

o Very simple, straightforward, and intuitive controls

o Auto-restart in the event of a power failure

o Superbly packaged, double boxed and excellent manufacturer packaging

o Competitively priced

o Ingenious "continuous drain" option

o Feels solid and the casters work well (at least on a concrete floor)

NEUTRALS:

o Air intake on front and exhausts out the top

CONS:

o Made in China but then you really don''t have much of a choice nowadays

Read on if you want to see why I have stated these PROS and CONS... otherwise, just seriously consider this unit

THE EPEXEGESIS:

I have owned and/or observed several dehumidifiers over the years... my parents had an Amana (I think it was) that they had for *years*, it worked fine but was quite noisy and eventually gave out. Now they have another brand that I don''t remember at the moment which also works fine but is somewhat noisy. I''ve had a couple of different dehumidifiers, too. A couple of my friends have Frigidaire dehumidifiers that they have so far had good luck with for three or four years, and I *almost* bought one but the "sales associate" at the big box store (rhymes with blows) that I went to was so much less than helpful that I decided I would just order from Amazon, since they had the same model for $40 less even with shipping. The previous dehumidifier I own I payed a crapload of money for (like approaching one thousand) and it didn''t even run correctly for two years. I''m currently talking to the company that I bought it from to see if it can be serviced... but that''s another story which is not looking too rosy at the moment.

Anyway, after leaving the big box store with no joy (and no dehumidifier), I came home and decided to reconsider other dehumidifiers that I had looked at on Amazon. I had read that dehumidifiers with a rotary compressor were far quieter and more efficient than the conventional reciprocating-compressor-based models. I had previously stumbled upon this Supentown dehumidifier in my explorations on Amazon. I agonized over the decision, and had it narrowed down to three choices, the Frigidaire, a Danby, and this one. I *finally* decided, based on the wildly varying reviews that I read on Amazon and elsewhere, that it was really a total crap shoot and that I would go with this dehumidifier, also due in some part to satisfy my curiosity as to whether the rotary compressor would really live up to the reputation of which I had read.

It arrived today while I was at work, and this evening, I unboxed it and got it set up. The packaging was exemplary, it was double boxed and was in pristine shape. I hooked up a continuous drain hose, which in itself is an ingenious implementation. On one of my previous dehumidifiers, you cut the "plug" out of a garden hose threaded stud that was molded into the bucket of the unit... cheesy and meant that there was an inch or so of water that always stood in the bucket... plus it came out the side of the bucket, so it was ugly and never pointed in the right direction. I hated the design from the get-go. This unit has a rubber plug on the back which you pull out and then you slide a short piece of clear plastic tubing in through the hole and it slides over a nipple that would normally drain into the bucket, so no water ever enters the bucket, it just goes straight out the drain hose... VERY nicely thought out and executed. They provide a male threaded outlet stud that you use two screws to fasten into the hole on the back of the unit, then attach a standard garden hose connection. (Actually you slide that male threaded stud onto the clear plastic tubing before you slide the tubing into the back and onto the nipple I mentioned previously.) Once I got the drain hose outlet installed, I got it plugged in and turned on. I kid you not, I cannot even hear the compressor running. It makes me wonder if it is even working!!! The only sound I hear is the fan; it is on the "turbo" setting and is like a strong fan noise, but FAR FAR FAR quieter than any of the dehumidifiers I have ever owned or experienced. Reminds me of the noise made by the old "carousel slide projector" that my parents owned back in the day. On "normal", it is even quieter. I just went down to check it, and it showed a "P1" on the display, which the manual stated that it was in a "defrost" cycle, and would resume normal operation once it had defrosted. I stood there until the compressor came back on, and it is just a low hum that is audible when you hear the difference but is very quiet and unobtrusive.

One thing that you have to remember is that dehumidifiers are less efficient as the temperature drops... my basement is at 60 degrees right now, and I *believe* that dehumidifiers are rated at their water removal capacity at a temperature of 80 degrees or maybe a bit warmer. But I digress, and in any event, it is chugging away down there and I will be very interested to check the hygrometer that sits on a shelf nearby tomorrow to see how far it has dropped from the initial 51%... it has dropped to 48% in the short time it has run, so I am very hopeful to see the results.

So... the bottom line from my initial impression is that this is a VERY nicely thought out, designed, and executed unit. Of course the other attribute that I am highly interested in is its longevity, which unfortunately, as they say, "only time will tell". I''ll make an effort to come back and update my review in the future, but there are a few drawbacks to that concept: Firstly, I may not remember, Secondly, I may not last as long as the dehumidifier (hope so but hey you never know), and Thirdly, at that time this model may no longer be available which means this review will be pretty much of no use...

This is my newest Sunpentown dehumidifier. I got my first (an SD-60E) almost 2 years ago. I''ve used many home dehumidifiers (Hampton Bay, Maytag, Fedders, Amana, Whirlpool) over many years. My two Sunpentowns are the most effective by any measure. Their water buckets are bigger, yet need to be emptied as often or more, even when used in the basement where temperatures are lower and many dehumidifiers lose effectiveness. I can now keep my whole house under 45% with only two dehumidifiers where I used to need three. Also, they''re quieter, which is very important. At first I worried that they occasionally seemed to run unnecessarily, but I now realize they''re smart devices and sometimes move air (with compressor off) just to monitor it better. They don''t need to be reset after a power failure. The filters are easy to remove and vacuum. Also, readings are more accurate than on older models. One very minor complaint: I could wish for a pause button (off for an hour, then resume, in case you want super quiet for a while). But overall I''m far happier with my two SPTs than any other dehumidifiers.

I purchased SPT SD-65E 65 pint dehumidifier in October after my home was nearly flooded. The water came up to within 5 inches of coming into my house. All of my insulation and ductwork had to be torn out. Under my house had to be sprayed 3 times with clorox mixture to prevent mold. I knew there was a lot of moisture inside my home. The first week I used the dehumidifier, I emptied the tank 14 times in SIX days. The humidity level is now maintained at a steady 45 to 50%. It is efficient and very quiet except when it goes into defrost mode. I am using it now in conjunction with my gas logs to control the humidity level. I am very pleased with the operation of the Sunpentown SD-65E. I have reccommended it to many people since I received mine. Thank you for such an efficient product. Jack Jarvis, Washington, NC

Possibly a good buy when used with the tank. I tried to plug a garden hose into the unit, both directly or using the clear vinyl tubing they provided. Neither works, water still drips either into the tank from the overflow, or runs down to the floor. Called the manufacturer to give them a chance to make it right, very polite but totally unhelpful. Also the appliance feels flimsy and cheap, not sure how durable it will be.

Bottom line, unit going back to Amazon for a refund.

UPDATE

Frigidaire FAD704DUD vs. Supentown SD-65E

Purchased the Frigidaire unit instead 70 pints/day (vs. 65 for the Supentown) and was $185 (vs. 224 for the Supentown, noticed the two are priced identical now). The Frigidaire appears to be better built, the plastic seems sturdier, the unit is smaller and better finished (e.g. the condenser overflow in the Supentown appears to be something drilled into the tank, those in the Frigidaire are manufactured with a collar and have a smooth finish). The Frigidaire is less noisy and produces far less heat than the Supentown. The tank of the Frigidaire can be stood flat on the ground, a major design fault of the Supentown which leans precariously. Finally, on the subject of continuous drainage, the elbow and plug provided by the frigidaire work flawlessly. The reason neither Frigidaire or Supentown drain continuously is the absence of a vent to balance the pressure within the hosepipe and allow gravity to do its job, Frigidaire has solved this by including a vent at the top of the elbow. Supentown should look to produce a similar part if they can be bothered. Gave the Frigidaire four stars because the necessary "drainage kit" should have been included in the box rather than having to call Customer Service for it.

In conclusion, after much research (and hands-on comparison of the two units), on short-term use, Frigidaire wins hands down.

Just got this unit. Turned it on and I couldn''t believe how NOISY it was. I should have done my homework on Consumer Reports. This unit is recommended for it''s ability to dehumidify, but it is by far the noisiest unit of all, and I agree with their assessment. For those looking for a quieter unit, Consumer Reports says the GE Frigidare and Kenmore are quiter. They also recommended the larger units, because they are by far much more efficient by virtue of the size and the ability to do the job faster. Read Consumer reports first, I should have. I''m going to return this product if I can''t stand the noise where I plan to use it.

UPDATE: June 19th 2011. Well I didn''t return it. It is still a NOISY unit, but it does a good job. I''ve placed it in a part of our house by the downstairs entrance foyer. That is where it has stayed. I won''t buy it again, reason being the noise level. When buying a Dehumidifier, buy according to how ''noisy'' they are, not how quiet. They are all noisy because they all have compressors. This is the first one I ever bought or even encountered, however I recently stayed in a Hotel/suites on business and they had a Maytag Dehumidifier in the room, it was quiter. Not sure why it was quiter, the unit did not specify quarts per day capability, hence the quietness may have been attributed to a smaller compressor. Once again, read Consumer reports first. The STAR Rating remains a 3 out of 5 because of the Small Block V8 with dual carb''s and headers level of noise.

Excalibur 3926TB Excalibur 3926TB Food Dehydrator Save 14% Off

Excalibur 3926TB Excalibur 3926TB Food DehydratorThis is a top notch dehydrator. I own a 5 tray TMS all stainless steel dehydrator and this Excalibur 3900 out performs it.

I was put off by the plastic construction and bought a stainless steel for more money than this unit.

I should of bought two of these.

This dehydrator does an excellent job dehydrating and is better constructed than you might think.

For home use this is the unit to buy.

Also I would suggest getting the timer version, it is worth the extra 50 bucks.

The biggest and baddest of dehydrators. Honestly, if you''ve done any research at all then you''re already well aware of the great reputation that Excalibur has. You already know about the 9 trays, you know about air moving, you know that it''s a bit bulky and may not fit under a smaller kitchen cabinet.

It''s big, but it does fit under my cabinet

I *like* the timer and my wife loves it. Making my wife happy was worth the $50 price difference vs the non-timer Excalibur.

It''s not nearly as noisy as some crybabies make it out to be. It has a fan, it makes a whirring noise. I have no problems having a normal conversation in my kitchen with it running. I leave it on overnight and don''t hear a thing from my bedroom. The dog doesn''t howl at it.

Fairly easy to clean, seems to be a decent quality items, I''ve had zero issues with it after owning and using for a bit over three months. We''ve used it roughly a dozen times.

Glad we made the purchase.

I was disputing between the excalibur and the new sedonna, which has half the warranty time as the excalibur but looks better. I purchased this Excalibur as a replacement for the Excalibur I have used for 18 years. The previous one was great and after 18 years finally quit. This one was delivered promptly and I have already used it for some late herb drying. It works as well as the previous one. It appears to be as sturdy and reliable as the old one. I have had a timer on both the old and new unit. I find this to be helpful. Set it and it shuts itself off. I would recommend this

L.B. Evans Aristocrat Scuff Men''s SlippersBeautiful quality, could pass for a dress shoe, if looking at the front only. BEWARE, the scuff runs small-about a full size smaller. I hope to exchange for next largest size. Other than that, they''re great. These were purchased as a gift and arrived very quickly. The recipient liked them so much, he was reluctant to have them exchanged, but was pursuaded, since they look a size small(heel hanging over scuff edge). Other than the size, they are great.

**UPDATE: I contacted the seller and they refused to exchange the slippers. So, I guess some lucky man who wears an 11 will receive a very nice slipper. I am reluctant to order again. Customer service did not impress me.

The slippers are extremely comfortable, are wearing well and because they are leather, don''t cause foot perspiration. They were a gift but are the best pair of slippers I''ve owned in some years.

I just received my new shoes, wow they look great and feel great except they are a full size to small.. I wear a 13EEE in all of my foot wear, I ordered a 13EEE... Normally 13EEE are just a bit long on me, but in this case this shoe''s 13EEE was at least 1/2 inch to short for me, and when side-by-side with my old house shoes they are about 1-1.5 inches shorter.

So Pay attention here order a size larger than you normally would! I actually did see another review saying this, but did not pay attention, and now I have to make am exchange...

One more point I don''t know if you will get the shipping service that I got but man they were here in 2.5 days from order and free! I will update if I do not get good customer service with the exchange but if I don''t make an update you can consider that I received acceptable customer service.

UPDATE 06/30/08 First I want to be clear the company has really great service! They paid for the return and immediately sent out a new pair (a size larger). Well here is where I get frustrated.... Even though the box showed one size larger well they were the exact same length! I ordered a 13EEE the first time. So I returned them and asked for 14EEE as exchange. Before I returned them I measured them with a ruler; the 13eee was exactly 12 inches long guess what the 14EEE is exactly 12 inches long! LOL... Anyway customer service is sending me another 14EEE and a 15EEE to see if one of them will fit... Will update you on this once I get the shoes.

Final update 07/03/08: Well just got two pairs to try of this shoe. A size 14EEE and a size 15EEE guess what they are exactly the same as the 13EEE! Talk about weird! I took them both out and put them back-to-back and they are EXACTLY the same.... I have to say I am very impressed with Shoe Buy they did not aruge and jumped through hoops to try and help me. Lord they probably lost big time on me since they shipped 4 pairs of shoe to me and paid for the return for 4 pairs of shoes in 6 (3 each way)shipments!!!! They even are now giving me 10% off for my trouble! Can''t ask for more than that!

CRYSTAL QUEST® Countertop Replaceable Triple Fluoride Water Filter System

CRYSTAL QUEST® Countertop Replaceable Triple Fluoride Water Filter SystemI bought this filter to remove fluoride as well as chlorine, and all the other usual suspects in water. It definitely removes the chlorine, but I can''t say it removes the fluoride as I don''t have a test kit to check on filtered quality. I hope it does.

But it sure looks very attractive as well has a industrial almost nuclear looks to it. Not that I got it for its looks: I figured that it would be best to have a stainless steel housing rather than the plastic housing that might potentially leach out contaminates of their own.

I didn''t get this filter at Amazon but rather a other retailer online that was both cheaper and had free shipping though it took a while for me to get it.

The filter device i received from this seller has what seem to be the oldstyle cardridges in the two right most filters, not like the ones that Crystal Quest sells directly from their website. The stainless steel housing is good, topquality except the leak that existed on the leftmost filter housing due to the carbon block filter cardridge being longer than ideal for the container to seal tightly. After trimming the filter and reinstalling it sealed ok.

Some pictures of the product have been uploaded.

I had issues with this product right out of the box. One filter housing was leaking. I went to tighten it and it was already tight. Upon further inspection I noticed it was screwed on enevenly. I was concerned that once I was able to get it loose that it might be stripped and still leak. I emailed cyrstal quest directly as well as the seller/shipper. No response from either. After 2 days of elbow grease and wd-40 I was able to loosen it, re-screw it on properly, and get the thing working. Unfortunately, this is the worst tasting filtered water I have tasted. I was looking for a more convenient alternative to the gravity fed system I was using. I guess I''ll keep looking.
