We received this a while ago (Sept 2011). Since it was coming to our APO address (we are a US Navy family living in the Netherlands) I did not expect it to come as quickly as it did! We wanted something easy to install and that would purify our water (HIGH calcium content here!). It was OK to install READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLYand works VERY well. We always have great water now. I bought extra refills at the time to make sure we had what we needed when swapping out the filters. I may buy this same setup for our house in Idaho it''s great and for a decent (not break the bank!) price!

The finishing filter requires you to supply 3/8" fittings. So if your system is 1/4" you have to buy reducing fittings to go with your system ($15.00). The sediment filters are 10 micron on the outside and 5 micron on the inside. The carbon filters are as expected. If you want the sediment filters to be other than 10/5, then you have to order them seperately. I prefer the 1 micron filters.

I have a 4 stage ro system that was due for its 6 month filter change. Filters all fit great and water tastes great as well. What a deal. Carbon post filter is standard 1/4 FPT installed with ease. I now have filters left over for a second change.

BestAir H65-C Holmes HWF-65 Replacement Wick FilterI''ve been searching for a filter replacement for our humidifier for some time and finally found it. It fits like those made by the manufacturer (Holmes)and seems to work very well. All in all, a good value.

WE HAVE THE MACHINE AND WE DIDN''T HAVE A SPARE. WE DIDN''T THINK WE COULD FIND IT ANYWHERE ELSE AT THIS PRICE SO WE BOUGHT IT. THANKS.

Ordering was easy and received quickly. This wick has metal around the outside keeping it from sagging inside the humidifier. I was able to find one unit locally but glad I ordered a second. Even with the metal to help them last longer, we still need to replace the wick.

Very good product that does indeed have an extended life compared to other similar filters. I''ve ordered this particular brand/filter the last few years and have been extremely satisfied with each order. Highly recommend you give it a shot with your next filter purchase.

I was very surprised to see the price on this filter, and was excited to try it out. I am glad I did because the filter works very well, just like the Holmes brand and much cheaper.

I realize not everyone out there owns an RO (reverse osmosis) system and perhaps even fewer have one connected to their refrigerator. But if you do, you may want to consider this...

We''ve owned an RO system since 1994, in fact we still have it. During that time we connected it to our old Maytag refrigerator''s ice maker and water dispenser. Neither worked reliably or well. When the ice maker wasn''t literally shooting ice cubes horizontally out the cup, it would continually freeze and malfunction (as ice makers do).

Due to abnormally high frequency of repairs the only redeeming value we derived from the parade of service technicians was the opportunity to pick their brains. Time after time, each confirmed why the door mounted water dispenser was so agonizingly slow delivering water. It was primarily due to the reduced pressure from the RO system. Since the storage tank bladder and pressure were operating within spec this made sense.

While having an RO system does provide a cleaner (no minerals) source of water, the downside is low water pressure plays havoc with ice-makers creating "ice dams" that block the H2O feeder tube. The internal ice-maker switch depends on a minimum amount of water pressure to engage. RO system pressure is typically around 7 PSI which dramatically less than city water pressure (about 30-60 PSI depending where you live). Inevitably the refrigerator water line (necessary for ice making) will freeze-up disabling the ice-maker and significantly reduce flow through the door H2O dispenser.

Just about every refrigerator manufacturer recognizes this issue and addresses it within their respective owners manual. Our new Samsung is no exception. In fact, after contacting them and they highly recommend installing a water booster pump specifically for the reasons mentioned above.

So after doing some research I found this Premier model on Amazon (coincidentally from the same manufacturer of our RO system) and ordered it for less than Premier''s own website price.

Since I installed it the same time we received our new Samsung I can''t definitively state any measurable improvement. But compared with the previous Maytag, water flow is noticeably faster and dispensing pressure is higher (based on observation with pump turned on and off). I realize it may be too soon to report (almost 2 months) but best of all we haven''t experienced any ice issues. While I can''t unequivocally state this pump is making all the difference, I do feel confident it is helping prevent any recurrence of similar ice-maker issues... so far, so good.

If you''ve ever replaced your RO system filters, have experience with basic tools (semi-skilled with home repairs) you can easily install this. If not, it shouldn''t cost much to have someone do it, I was able to install ours in about 20 minutes. After depressurizing the RO system (same as during a filter change); mount the pump vertically to any wall (under the sink); splice one RO water line; re-pressurize the system; plug the pump into a standard 120VAC outlet (typically available under most sinks for dishwashers and disposals) and your good to go.

As for the pump, it operates automatically (on-demand) and is exceptionally quiet, we never notice it working...

Pump was easy to install, comes with the poly hose quick connects in place and two pieces of poly hose. Mine had the instructions took 5 min to hook up. My dissolved solids went from 25ppm down to 6 and the product water has increased in volume by quite a bit.

Works great, very quite and a must for ice maker/water dispenser. Before installing ice cubes were very small and only a trickle of water came out of the water dispenser. After installation found the pressure somewhat better but still not as good as before installing the RO system. Found specs on the pressure switch that comes with the pump and was able to adjust the pressure setting, which improved the water pressure to pre-RO.

The pressure switch is marked 40psi but the manufacture said the range is 40-60psi. There is a small Allen screw on the switch and by screwing it in you can increase the pressure at which the pump shuts down.

The only reason I bought this booster pump was low pressure(20-30 psi) of tap water in my apartment building. Respectively, RO system did not work properly or stopped completely at times and tank was almost empty. It forced me to replace my 2 stage sediment filter prematurely to somehow increase water flow but did not fix the problem.

After installation (1 page instruction with diagram was clear for the job)some real revolution did happen !

My tank fills out fast and is almost full, shutoff switch maintains pressure about 40 psi in the tank and I see pressure 80-90 psi before membrane while booster is operating.I do not remember so good water stream from my RO faucet. If I don''t take water after automatic power shut off, the booster will not start for hours. It is quiet if you secure plastic tubing properly otherwise it does generate some noise because pump''s vibration transmits to tubing however pump itself is very quiet.Overall, positive result is obvious. I just have to admit some RO systems on market already include booster pump for the price just 2 times more than this booster itself.

I bought this to go along Watts WP5-50 Premier Five-Stage Manifold Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System

by Watts(which is also very good product, and has a huge tank and can take a long time to fill ). I am glad I installed the pump beneath my kitchen sink along with the filter, because it helps fill the tank much faster. Trust me it will make things easier for you.... You will love it.

I gave it 4 stars only because it was a bit expensive..... It was a lot by the time I paid for both ( the pump and reverse osmosis).

But It is still a {musthave thing}

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner Save 33% Off

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900We should really be hired to test vacuum and carpet cleaners, but even so the price of this dream clean machine gave me some pause (okay, a lot). With 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and fairly light carpets, we put our cleaners to the test. I have gone through SEVERAL carpet cleaners (roughly 1 every 2 years) and have also had the carpets professionally cleaned. Honestly, this carpet cleaner cleaned as well if not better than the pros, and worlds better than our current Hoover F6207-900 SteamVac Lite Carpet Cleaner with Heated Cleaning.

Pros:

1) Handle can lay back fully with no strain on the hose I mention this after replacing the hoses several times on previous Hoovers

2) You do NOT have to mix the detergent!!!! Wow what a great feature, no waste!

3) 2 separate rollers actually scrub the carpet amazingly well

4) No fuss dial system incredibly easy to go between standard clean, spot clean (does not pick up so you can scrub, scrub, scrub away the years of bad carpet cleaners), and rinse (the water rinse is GREAT!)

5) Easy to follow indicator lights let you know if you know when it is cleaning (detergent), rinsing (water only), or drying (neither light on)

6) Spot clean is easy to follow actually squirts out the front so you can actually see the spot you are hitting (2 settings, spray or stream)

7) My previous Hoovers had this obnoxious detachable hose reel, and then when the clips that hold it on break, you find yourself dragging accessories around the house this one is not detachable.

8) The hose remains attached, you don''t have to plug it in, so no hose door to break and lose (yeah, I''ve done that too)

9) Scrubber assembly comes off easily for cleaning (but not the front roller, which might be a problem if you don''t maintain it)

10) generous cord longer than previous Hoovers

11) 6 year warranty makes it cheaper than replacing 3 $200 Hoovers with 1 year warranties (just check where your service center is ours is about 30 miles away and always very responsive)

12) Since it is clear plastic (opposed to grey or purple) it is easier to see when the water being picked up becomes fairly clear indicating you have extracted the maximum amount of dirt you can

Cons:

1) It''s big and heavy and I have tons of stairs

2) Blue light shining on carpet this gives me eye strain after a while

3) Waste container there''s no delicate way to dump it it''s opening is like a big bucket and it gets everywhere. I suppose it will get better with practice, and it is easier to clean this way, but I think it was a step backward

4) Very small holes to pour in the detergent and water buy a funnel since the detergent is pricey

5) Detergent guzzler

Eh''s (take ''em or leave ''em):

1) Heat I don''t think it really did much (It didn''t feel substantial)

2) Waste container sensor doesn''t detect the detergent well, with the clear plastic, it''s pretty obvious when they need emptying/filling

3) Blue light why blue simulated uv? It doesn''t actually illuminate anything.

4) Carry handle it''s made of molded plastic and is in the back, so... yeah, pretty awkward hoisting it up and down the stairs. But, I really don''t have a better option, so am not putting it as a con.

How did it do???

If I had known how well it would do, I would have taken pictures or video, because it is unbelievable. I cleaned my ancient 15 year old carpets (about 1600 sq. feet worth) and actually managed to get them back very near their original color. Shockingly old stains that my kidlets provided that were not removed by the pros or the old cleaners are gone. One caveat here is that I used around 64 ounces of detergent. I started with the professional grade, but used the cheap stuff in the kids'' rooms (smells better anyway). Based on the amount used and lack of discernable difference, I cannot recommend the "professional" cleaner but instead Hoover 40321130 Premium Pet Formula Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce, which has what I would call a lemony scent. If you are scent sensitive, then try Hoover 40321128 Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce. I use the 4-for-3 to really make it a great buy. In any event, I took my time actually read the directions for once and made sure I did several dry passes. I took advantage of the spot clean followed by rinse only for high traffic areas, used the powered hand tool on the stairs, and the upholstery brush on our chairs. All works admirably providing results that made the initial investment worth it. The carpets look amazing and were dry within two hours (aided along by a hot day).

I bought this cleaner yesterday after reading many reviews. My little Bissel steam cleaner stopped vacuuming up the solution after just using it 10 times, so I decided to invest in something I won''t have to replace once a year. I was nervous at first because the cleaner is very expensive compared to other cleaners, and putting it together, I was terrified it would break, as it''s made of plastic which doesn''t feel very strong to me. It was simple to put together and get started, and once I started cleaning, I knew I''d made a good choice. I cleaned the carpet in my 17 month old son''s room, and was shocked at how differently this cleaner worked compared to my Bissel. With my Bissel, an entire gallon of solution was sprayed onto my carpet, but only a few ounces of the solution was vacuumed up. I contacted Bissel and they assured me this was normal, as I have thick carpets. However, the carpets sometimes took 24 hours or more to dry, which is very frustrating. Needless to say, I hardly used the Bissel cleaner as it was a pain to wait an entire day for the carpets to dry. With this Hoover cleaner, though, nearly ALL the solution was vaccumed back out of the carpet! It took about 5 hours for the carpet to dry (very thick carpet!) and the dirty water was BLACK when I was done. I''m disgusted at what a terrible job my Bissel did, and grateful that this cleaner works so well!

What I love about this cleaner:

You don''t have to mix the detergent in water, the machine mixes it for you, making it easier to clean small areas if needed without making an entire gallon of solution

I''m a small woman and this machine is pretty big, but it''s easy to push, I had no problems with it

The LED light on the front reveals conspicuous stains the carpet

The machine rinses and partially dries the carpet, without leaving an overwhelming smell of chemicals in the room

It comes with a 6 year limited warranty. Other Hoover cleaners come with a 1 year warranty. (Hopefully this means that they are confident with this machine, and not that they anticipate problems, I''m quite cynical)

The dirty water bin is VERY easy to clean. My Bissel was terrible to clean, it took me half an hour to clean it because of the design.

The suction is great, it actually vacuums up nearly all the water out of the carpet

It actually gets my carpet clean! Finally!

What I don''t like:

The machine appears to be sturdy, but I''m still a little nervous about all the plastic parts. I keep thinking something might break off if I''m not careful. It''s an expensive machine and I can''t afford for anything to break.

You can use any Hoover detergent in the machine, but the the platinum detergent that comes with it is VERY expensive, much more than Hoover''s original detergent. I''ve contacted them to see what exactly the difference is and if the Platinum detergent actually works better or if the original detergent will do just as well.

Edit: Hoover got back to me and told me that the "Recommended" shampoos for this machine are the Platinum detergent and the Hoover SteamVac Ultra carpet and upholstry detergent. They said the other brands might foam too much and cause problems. The ultra detergent is about half the price of the platinum, so I bought 4 bottles of it with the buy 4, get 1 free deal on amazon. I just used the detergent last night on a fresh chocolate milk stain and it didn''t get it out, but I don''t know if the platinum would have, either. Seems like decent detergent, though! And a lot more affordable!

Extra Edit: After using this cleaner for several months, I still don''t regret buying it because it cleans so well, but I do have a few comments on cleaning it. The rotating brushes on the underside of the cleaner pick up a lot of lint, hair, and gunk that vacuums do not pick up, and the junk gets really nasty in the brushes. I''ve actually had to take my cleaner outside, turn it over, and pull everything out of the brushes. Very gross, but it keeps from spreading on my carpet. Just wanted to mention the fact. This is still a wonderful cleaner and does a great job, but cleaning the brushes is a bit more extensive than other carpet cleaners I''ve owned.

I have dogs so I''m always on the lookout for a better and easier way to clean my carpets. I bought this top-of-the-line Hoover Platinum Carpet Cleaner a few months ago. I used it no more than 5 times for some quick clean ups in the first couple of weeks and was very impressed. It did such a good job making "clean spots" that I took it out on the weekend to do the whole carpet.

I used the cleaner as indicated in the manual, and I used only Hoover Platinum cleaning solutions. After cleaning about 120 square feet, in mid-clean, the steamer stopped dead. There was no problem with the outlet; the machine was totally unresponsive. I cleaned it out, put it away, and tried it again the next morning thinking it might have overheated. Still dead, so I returned it. I expected a lot more from a top-of-the-line product from a reputable company.

My experience may not be typical; the cleaner might have been defective. It has a lot of good features, but it also has drawbacks. Factor in the high cost, the PROs and CONs, and make your own decision.

PROs:

1. Minimal assembly. The upper handle attaches with just two nuts and bolts. That''s it.

2. 6-year warranty.

3. 30 foot power cord.

4. Spot clean function. You can dispense a thin stream of cleaning fluid or a wider spray and then the brushes will scrub at any set in stains for as long as you want before you set it to extract.

5. DualScrub technology. There are two rows of brushes, a SpinScrub brush and a power groomer brush (like a traditional beater bar brush) located right next to each other. What one brush doesn''t get, the other will.

6. MaxExtract technology. This is a heavy machine with significant suction. Despite the weight, it''s easy to push and pull and does not leave the carpet saturated.

7. Tank full / tank empty indicator lights let you know when the dirty water recovery tank is full and when the clean water and soap tanks are empty.

8. Powered hand tool with SpinScrub brushes, upholstery tool, and crevice tool on board. Switching over to use the on-board tools is simple and easy.

9. AutoRinse technology. Depress the trigger and push the machine forward and it dispenses the cleaning solution and scrubs the carpet. Keep pressing the trigger as you pull it back toward you and it extracts the dirty water and dispenses a clean water rinse. Release the trigger and do another pass or two back and forth and the Platinum extracts any liquid in the carpet.

10. The soap and clean water are stored in separate tanks and the machine mixes them automatically depending on the type of cleaning you select. This cleaner actually uses less soap than the other carpet cleaners I''ve owned, which is good since the detergent is quite expensive.

11. A computer-controlled panel that looks like it would be at home on a star ship and lets you know exactly what the machine is doing. Cool and distracting at the same time.

12. The SpinScrub brush bar detaches easily for cleaning.

CONs:

1. The price: $400.

2.The electric blue LED headlight. This is supposed to help illuminate stains, but I found it blinding. The one thing it absolutely did not do was make it easier to see stains. I couldn''t even tell where I had cleaned because everything was bathed in this eerie bright blue light. This feature was beyond annoying.

3. Very expensive cleaning fluid. The detergents made exclusively for the Platinum ("professional strength") come in small 50 ounce bottles and cost between $18-$22.

4. If you don''t use the Platinum formula detergent, the control panel light indicates that the soap tank is empty because it doesn''t "recognize" other detergents. The machine will still work. Hoover says that other less expensive detergents might foam excessively and damage the cleaner.

5. The Direct Heat Drying feature. This just seems like machine exhaust directed at the carpet. It''s supposed to help the carpet dry more quickly, but I don''t see how a couple of quick passes over a wet carpet blowing some hot air will make a difference.

6. This cleaner is heavy, almost 29 pounds before you add water and cleaning solution, which brings the weight up to near 40 pounds.

7. The clean water tank is 128 ounces (1 gallon) and the dirty water recovery tank is 96 ounces (3 quarts). Because it is so small, it requires frequent emptying, and the timing does not coincide with when the detergent and clean water tanks need refilling. Annoying.

8. It''s challenging to get the soap tank, clean water tank, and dirty water recovery tank to slide back on the machine easily. When the clean water tank is full of water, the handle on the tank seems way too flimsy to support the weight of the tank. The bottom of the dirty water tank is not flat and takes a few attempts to get it seated correctly.

9. The soap tank is poorly designed. There are three compartments -the center one that holds the soap and two empty "wings" on either side. It looks like you have more soap in there than you do because 2/3 of the tank is empty. This makes no sense functionally.

10. You are not supposed to store the machine for any length of time with detergent left in the tank, but the design of the tank (fills from a small hole in the top) makes it almost impossible to empty without spilling soap all over the place, and it is way too expensive to waste. Everything about the soap tank is clunky -odd design, wasted space, lack of functionality. This could use a major redesign.

11. It is also challenging to empty the dirty water tank without making a mess. The plastic hinges on the lid are flimsy and a potential weak spot. I accidentally touched the release button for the lid on the dirty water tank while I was carrying it to dump out and it spilled out all over the floor. Draining dirty water out of the tank is so messy that I do it outside and even then, it''s messy. It splatters all over the place.

12. The design of the lid on the dirty water tank and the recovery nozzle assembly (the plastic cover through which the water is extracted and from where the heated air comes) makes it hard to rinse clean without splashing water all over the place. Another outside job.

13. You cannot transport the cleaner by wheeling it in an upright position unless you empty the dirty water recovery tank first. If the machine tips back when you push it and the tank is near full, dirty water will slop out (yuck). This is a major design flaw and should have been corrected before Hoover ever released this product for sale to the public.

14. You can remove the SpinScrub brushes easily for cleaning, but not the beater bar-style brush next to it.

For the very short time the Platinum worked, it was a decent carpet cleaner. I love the automatic clean water rinse and the ease of using the tools. The Platinum detergents do a good job and the machine sips rather than gulps the cleaner, but I''m not convinced the soap does a better job than other available brands and it is very expensive. The electric blue headlight has got to go. Hoover should replace it with a clear LED. A really serious concern is how quickly my machine just stopped working altogether; I hadn''t even owned it for 3 weeks. For the price and considering the Hoover name, I absolutely expected better. Based on my own experience, I just can''t recommend this cleaner.

My wife and I live in a split entry ranch (raised ranch) home. We have been in it since 1994. Wall to wall carpet with the exception of 2 baths, kitchen/dining room and the laundry room.

We put new carpet in the house when we moved in... and then again when we remodeled in 2004. We had a professional rug cleaner do it (previous to the remodel and currently) every spring and fall (upstairs spring, downstairs fall) until we called to make an appointment a few weeks ago and they were out of business.

We decide to research a home cleaner and give that a try instead of looking for a new company. I Googled "carpet cleaners" and the Bissell Pro Heat 2X 9500 seemed to be the one model that kept popping up and had many good reviews.

I go to one of our local department stores to purchase the Bissell... I asked the manager of this department what he thought of the Bissell and he said "since you asked and to be honest with you... the Bissell cleaners are the most returned model here at the store". I then asked what he recommended. He said "I have a Hoover Steam Cleaner myself and it works well and we hardly get any Hoover returns. We also just got this new Hoover Platinum Collection Cleaner in this past weekend."

So I went with the Hoover F8100900 Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner and I did the upstairs and the stairs... and all I can state is "unbelievable on what a FANTASTIC JOB IT DID !!!".

It looks better than when the professional company had done it! It also dried as fast if not faster.

This machine does what it says it will do... and more!

My Hoover Platinum Carpet Cleaner arrived last Saturday and I put it to work in less than an hour. I have and used both Hoover and Bissell in the past and this, by far, exceeded my expectations. I first cleaned all my area and throw rugs and they look like new. It also did a good job on old pet stains on my main carpet. Cleaning the unit is a snap, except for the horizontal roller! Fibers and pet hair wound up around it and I couldn''t clean it without removal. Hoover instructions are silent on how to clean this roller. Being mechanically inclined, I removed 3 screws and detached the roller from it''s bearings and belt drive. After cutting off the rolled up hair and carpet fibers and washing the bristles, I reassembled the roller back into the machine. This part of the cleaning took about 20 minutes. Despite this, I highly recommend the machine. It got out dirt I never dreamed was there!

Austin Air Healthmate Jr. Plus Air Purifier Save 17% Off

Austin Air Healthmate Jr. Plus Air Purifier - SandstoneIt does not off-gas at all, so is perfect for people with chemical sensitivities and does not generate any "electrical pollution". Due to allergies, my sinuses were previously congested during the night , especially when the forced-air furnace came on, and now because of this purifier, they are clear and I sleep much better. ... this is a GREAT purifier!!

I received the air purifier promptly and received the correct product. I''ve had problems previously with ordering this machine (from a different seller), because I had orderd the Healthmate Junior Plus, but received the basic Healthmate Junior. It''s buyer beware with these air purifiers, because Austin Air, the manufacturer, doesn''t put the "Plus" on the machine. So I had to call Austin Air with the serial number to check, and that''s how I found out I received the wrong item. Amazon and the other seller were great about taking the machine back. Now I chose this seller and am very pleased to have received the right air purifier. Austin Air purifiers have a good reputation and I see them at the offices of several of my doctors so I believe I''m in good company ordering them. This one is going into my child''s bedroom.

The unit has a nice design and structural very well build. It has 3 fan speed settings which bring me to the problem. Speed setting 1 & 2, although very quiet, the intake air is not noticeable at all.... it is unable to hold up just the littlest of tissue when placed against the 4 intake air surfaces. In other words, there is no air intake at all. Speed 3 is the only setting that appears to take in air and is also able to hold the tissue against the housing. That would indicate dust/odor IN and clean air OUT....but this setting it is also the noisiest.

Not sure if this will help someone, you can try the test yourself and see what you think.

P.S. I use the #3 setting all day (it is doing a good job) and shut the unit off at nights.

These are very handy--you can stick one right on the side of your toilets with the two-sided tape. The scent comes out strongly almost immediately, so you can screw it shut again by the time you leave the bathroom. I''d recommend the "crisp breeze" scent over the "fresh waters," however. This one smells like the disinfectant used in a lot of restaurant bathrooms, where they leave them open all the time until the scent is suffocating.

I purchased this DuPont faucet-mount water filter after two unhappy experiences with the new "one-click" Pur faucet-mount filter.

The DuPont filter was easy to attach to the faucet in the kitchen sink, with a solid, no-leak, screw-on collar. I mention this feature because the leaky, substandard connection of the Pur "one-click" filter is what led me to try the DuPont filter.

The knob that switches between filtered and unfiltered water has a solid feel, but it goes in the opposite direction as the Pur filters, so that took a bit of adjustment.

The DuPont filter cartridge loads at the rear of the capsule, instead of the front as in the Pur filters, so that was another adjustment.

To me, the filtered water is good in terms of taste and clarity. The only problem I have is with the device''s built-in aerator for when you are not filtering water, but just want to run unfiltered water into the sink. The aerator tends to spray water in an unfocused way that can be annoying. It ought to aerate and focus the water straight down. But that''s the only complaint. Otherwise, this is a good filter that does what I want it to do, and most importantly, does not snap off and fall into the sink or leak unfiltered water into my drinking glass.

Had it a month.

It was easy to install on our contemporary Delta kitchen faucet. The cartridge element is easy to install into the filter unit.

The chrome finish and the horizontal configuration are perfect with our kitchen style.

We''re very happy with it. If there was one criticism it would be that I would prefer the control valve to be on the left side instead of the right facing the faucet, since I''m usually holding the container in my right hand.

Loving our DuPont!!! We have horrible water at home, would come out of the faucet cloudy. With the DuPont our water is crystal clear, and taste crisp and pure. So happy we found a product that didn''t fall apart on us within the first few weeks. The only "issue" we had was tightening the cap onto the faucet, the instructions say "hand tight", but you definitely need to make it EXTRA tight so the threads on the DuPont really seal with the threads on your faucet!

We bought this filter around 6 months ago and it works very well it installed in minutes (my wife installed it that''s how easy it was) its nice to be able to filter a pitcher of water to keep in the fridge and I use it to filter water into my mug for work my only gripe about this filter is the cartridge it uses has no indication on its life span and after six months I finally changed the filter on it because I wasn''t sure how good it was any more. I am not sure if it will take another filter that has that feature but the model that the book indicates it needs does not show a life span so from now on I am going to replace the filter every 90 days to make sure it is not being over used. overall great product nice look and feel and filters the water nicely and cleanly this is my first filter and it is used every day. If I had to put a max price that I would pay for this I would pay no more than twenty five dollars largely in part to the cartridge it uses.

FreshAir Surround by Vollara

FreshAir Surround by Vollara with ActivePureWe live in a dusty place--agriculture nearby, windy conditions and a relatively dry climate mean constant dust. Plus we are in an area of high air pollution with coal-fired power plants. I find lots of dust in the house, and I know it makes me uncomfortable. We purchased the EcoQuest Fresh Air Purifier during a home show, and I find it lives up to its promises of cleaner air, though there is certainly a downside to using it (more about later.)

How it works

Some air purifiers work by filtering the air--they bring IN the air with a fan and blow it across a filter or precipitator to remove the dust. But the EcoQuest is different; it bombards the air with ions that make the dust fall down and break apart. While this sounds like science fiction, it is a well-known method of precipitating particles in many applications. Therefore, one EcoQuest works on a large area--in our case we use one for the main part of the house which is open plan and find it controls dust in the great room, the upstairs hallway and kitchen. (maybe a 1700 sq ft area.) When we need dust control in the bedrooms, we just move it in there. Normally, ours sits on the top of the stairs where it can reach the great room, hallways and kitchen.

This is the major advantage of the EcoQuest--since it doesn''t rely on bringing air into it, you can position it to cover a large part of a house.

Appearance and Operation

The Ecoquest Fresh Air Purifier is a squarish box, black in front and with faux rosewood plastic on the side. I guess it is about as unobtrusive as you can get, not pretty but not ugly either. It is the size of four or five phone books standing on end. There is a front panel with lcd readout and press-membrane style controls.

The unit has an ultraviolet light that generates ozone and then inside, there is a plate of ceramic covered with a metal screen. This is the ion generator.

The fan has several speeds, from one to five, five being the loudest and fastest.

The UV lamp in our unit, with fairly constant use, has been in service for two years and has not shown any signs of burning out. So far, so good.

You can choose settings based on the size of the area you wish to clean (small bedroom, car interior, large open room). We live in a pretty large open area, so we usually leave the unit on the 1750 sq ft setting.

You can choose how long to leave on the unit from 2,4, to 6 hours continuous operation, on high. This setting is for cleaning the house while you are gone. We choose to use this on days when the dust is getting to us, and we leave the house.

When we come home we notice:

1. The dust on the furniture is smaller in texture, and the carpets feel soft. The claim that the dust is broken down seems to be true.

2. We notice the lightning-struck smell of ozone. Some people find ozone a pleasant, fresh smell, but in large amounts, it is an irritant to me, and more than a little will give me a royal headache and makes me cough.

The Down Side

So, now, to the down side of the EcoQuest. The UV light generates ozone, and the ionizer plate apparently does as well. Ozone for many people, especially asthma suffers, is quite irritating. It''s actually a toxic gas in large amounts. So one has to go cautiously with the EcoQuest and air out the house. Ozone is used by fire remediation to purify air after a disaster, and also to remove stubborn odors. It''s a valid technique to purify air, as long as you remove the ozone afterwards. On its own, ozone is actually a pollutant. But it is a reactive type of molecule and breaks down, so getting rid of it is not difficult.

Maintenance

Monthly maintenance is required if you use the EcoQuest regularly or if the air is dirty. If you forget, a light goes on, indicating it''s time to clean the ion generating plate. There is a ceramic plate inside you remove by unscrewing a back plate Then you vacuum off the plate and dust out the inside carefully. This takes us about 15 minutes.

Parts to replace would include the ceramic plate and the UV lamp. So far, in two years of constant use, we have not had to replace anything.

Summary

The EcoQuest lives up to its claim of reducing dust by breaking it down and by generating air-freshening ozone. However, too much ozone is a pollutant in itself. Therefore, you have to use it carefully and be mindful that if you cannot tolerate ozone, this may not be the purifier for you. As long as we don''t crank up the ozone, we are quite happy with the unit. We have enjoyed good operating life with little maintenance so far.

Hands down this is the best air purifier I ever used. I used the Ionic Breeze and the Oreck XL and they don''t even come close to this unit. My friend let me borrow his unit because I was complaining how I was having problems getting rid of my cat odor in my room. Oreck XL was close in getting rid of the odor and The Ionic Breeze was a useless piece of junk. The Ecoquest got rid of my cat odor COMPLETELY.

I would get the ECOQUEST version though cause I think ECOQUEST bought out Alpine and updated the unit with more advance features like the lighted digital display, a "Go Away" feature, and added a remote control. You can get at ebay for around $300 for about the same price as the useless Ionic Breeze.

The unit works well eliminating dust and odor. Most of my friends who have this machine have the same complaint that I do Maintenance and new parts. They tell you that you never need to buy another filter. This is true, but the lamp ($17) always needs replacing (this is the 3rd one in 18 months) and friends of mine have complained that they have needed to replace the plate many times. Since you cannot buy parts at your local store, you need to get them online and wait while your machine is out of commission. You need to clean the machine at least once a month. It is not like other machines that just snap open. You need to unscrew the back panel, front panel and inside panel. It is amazing how dusty the inside gets! The filters are easy to wash down. Like anything else, when it is working it is great.

Many people do not understand what ozone is, therefore they are afraid of it and say all manner of inaccurate statements about it. The reason air purifiers and especially the Ecoquest air purifiers work so well is that they are modeled after nature itself.

Ozone is created in nature all the time, especially around moving water, in the mountains and after thunderstorms, to clean the air, but in conjuction with water it does more. It is also found wherever there is pollution...and there is a reason for that. There are several things ozone was designed to do. To name two: clean/purify the air of pollutants and kill mold.

A molecule of ozone is O3 while oxygen is O2 and water is H2O. Here''s a picture that might help in understanding this entire process and the bad rap ozone gets from some. If there is a fire, then the firemen are alerted and they go to the fire to fight it and put it out. Now, if we started saying that firemen cause fires, because they are always there whenever there is a fire, that would be silly. It''s the same way with ozone. Calling ozone a pollutant or saying it is the cause of pollution is not scientifically accurate. Ozone forms when there are pollutants in the air, therefore, the more pollutants there are, the more ozone there is.

The O3 actually has one atom of the three that is unstable. This is why it can clean pollutants out of the air. This unstable atom gets attracted to the pollutant atoms and puff!...it then oxidizes (burns up.)Then you have a clean oxygen molecule, O2, because the third one is gone! It continues on with this process until all the air is cleaned. This is especially helpful after a forrest fire, so again, that is why these machines work so well in rapidly getting rid of smoke damage even in wood in a home. It is beautiful in its simplicity.

Now, let''s deal with the toxicity of ozone...and asthma sufferers (I have asthma and I love what the air purifiers do in my home.) Would you agree that water is good for us? What if we were in the middle of the ocean and couldn''t swim? Sometimes in some situations too much of a good thing is not so good! But it does not make the actual item the bad guy...it is how one uses it. Anti-biotics are good for us, but getting too much has now created the very thing we were trying to stop. I am sure you can think of many such situations...fire is good, too much and used wrongly and it can mame and kill, etc.

When one goes hiking in the mountains, often it is said that the "mountain-fresh air" is just great. There is more ozone there. Even at its highest setting, less ozone is created in these machines than what has been determined to be an irritant. It is only a matter of enclosure. When I use my purifier on the highest output of ozone to "sanitize" a room or my bedding, I shut the door and let it do its thing. When I open the door, I can smell a lot of ozone. All one has to do, is then turn the purifier down or off, and open the door a few minutes! It dissapates almost immediately. We often have people enter our home and remark at how fresh it smells (and I have three cats.)

But...there are a few (very few in our experience) who have not liked the way our home smells...my daughter, for one. She just does not like it. She says it smells like bleach or dirty socks! So, we turn the purifier down. For us, we are so used to it, we do not even smell it anymore unless we have been gone for awhile...and then we only smell it a few seconds upon entering our home. (And that is not because our sense of smell is being destroyed! It is a natural thing that one gets used to ones own smells if one is around them long enough...hence, we often get offended by another or another one''s environmental odors while they are not...much, much evidence and examples can be used here...like I said, we smell it again if we have not been around it for while.)

Now as to mold and how the ozone works on it. The unstable atom of the O3 breaks off as it is attracted to the moisture (H20) in the mold. It attaches itself to the H2O making it H2O2. And guess what H2O2 is? It is hydrogen peroxide, and that kills mold! Another beautiful creation in nature for our benefit...and yet, when man discovers these things, we then can harness the discoveries to make them work for us in many, many other ways. Hence, a wonderful air purifier.

There is certainly not time, nor space, nor most likely interest to cover these subjects in their scientific entirety, but at least this general overview can address some of the inaccurate rumors touted today. The bottom line is that anything that can be good for us, if abused, misued, etc, can also be not so good. It is not good or bad in itself, it is how it is utilized.

I''ve had my EcoQuest Fresh Air Purifier for five years. I love it. My son and I both have asthma and before we purchased the Fresh Air unit, we would wake up with itchy eyes and sniffles every morning (no indoor pets). Almost every day, we''d take allergy medication leaving us drowsy, even if the packet advertised, "drowsy free". I hated sending him to school foggy from the meds and wondered what the long-term effects would be.

Since purchasing the Fresh Air unit, we''ve done away with our daily meds and our home smells fresh.

Occasionally, I''ll wake up with the sniffles and then I''ll notice the "needs cleaning" message is on. That''s proof that it''s effective.

I would''ve given it 5 stars except, I''ve had some maintenance issues. I purchased it from an EcoQuest sales rep., and have received great service. The parts aren''t expensive to replace, but the unit could be made with better quality parts. The wiring clips kept corroding. He changed out the cheap wiring and fasteners for me and that made a big difference on maintenance.

I''ve recommended it to friends and relatives who have experienced the same improved health from it.

Maxwell House Ground Coffee, 10-Count Filter Packs

Maxwell House Ground Coffee, 10-Count Filter PacksThese are the same coffee pods I used to purchase at my local grocery store. Standard coffee. Can''t really go wrong with Maxwell House. And it saves having to mess with coffee filters.

I only wish they came in flavors, LOL.

I own a travel trailer and we travel most of the summer. These filteer packs are fast and easy clean up. clean up is important when you are limited for space in a camper. I got so spoiled having a great cup of a coffee in less than no time that we began using these filter packs at home as well. They are way over priced when compared to the grocery store price but they sell out very fast so you can''t always get them.

During the summer, I like to keep a pitcher of cold-brew coffee in the fridge for iced coffee (cold-brew coffee is less bitter than chilled hot-brew coffee). These coffee packs are the easiest, no-fuss way I''ve found to make that happen. Throw 2-3 packs (depending on taste) in two quarts of cold water, let it sit for 10-12 hours at room temperature, then remove the packs and refrigerate the delicious brew. Serve over ice, with or without milk (or, for the particularly decadent, some half-and-half, or better still, a splash of cream).

As a disabled person who loves a daily pot of coffee, these filter packs are great! I used to suffer through sprinkling grounds all over the counter -getting more on the sink than in the basket, and then I''d have to tolerate grinds in the bottom of the pot, but no more with these packs! What a nice idea. Sure, they a pricier than big cans, plus they are no joy for "coffee snobs," but they are perfect for us others...

These filter packs make measuring easy, and the strength of the coffee is perfect. I use a small 4-6 cup coffee maker almost every day at work, and these make a good pot of coffee a cinch.
