We have very hard well water & with all the talk of contaminants in NJ, we installed this system 7 years ago when we redid our kitchen. We weren''t sure about having the minerals in the water, but it''s been excellent. It''s also connected to our refrigerator for ice cubes. There''s only 2 of us, so sometimes we have been a little lax in changing the filters (about every 15-18 months). It''s still going strong!Read Best Reviews of Tap Master Iron Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System Here

I regularly change my Water Filters. As usual I ordered ahead of change time "Pentek P-250A Under Sink Water Filter Set" on Amazon from "Water Filters Direct, LLC."When I opened the plastic wrap to install the water filters, black activated charcoal powder poured out onto my carpet! The end cap was either damaged or was not properly sealed. It was just held by the shrik wrap.
Unfortunately I found out that the product was defective after 30 days. (Water cartridge was not due for replacement!) It looked ok from outside, as it was tightly shrink wrapped. I called Amazon customer service at 1(800) 201-7575. After a long disucssion and lots of hold time, they agreed to refund, as it was a defective part they supplied. I argued that as its a replacement cartridge I could not ascertain if it was in working order or not until installed. I could not install unless the old part was due for change. When they credited the amount I paid, they deducted shipping charges! I am not happy about it, as it was not my fault they sent a defective item.
Lesson learnednever order a consumable ahead of time, from Amazon. If it is a defective product, Amazon is going to sock you for the mailing charge, even if the product is defective.
Also I am never going to buy anything from "Water Filters Direct, LLC." as I never encountered a defective water filter in my life before this!

The filters were good. But there was a lack of information about which of the two was stage 1 and which was stage 2. I called the vendor for support and got the answer. We got a polished brass and a satin version of this showerhead for our parents for Christmas. The showerhead seems huge to me my hands are not large, but this is twice the size of my fist. For that hugeness and the price, I was expecting that there would also be an analog adjustment of the water stream, but there is not. There are exactly three settings: one saver setting, and two full flow settings. My brother installed the first one using a white plumber''s(?) tape to ensure a good seal on the pipe. The base setting is the water saver setting. I measured the water flow by seeing how long it took to fill up a large pot, and it was around 40 seconds. The other two settings took about 30 seconds each. This reflects the 1.5 vs. 2 gpm flow that others have quoted. At first it seemed odd that the shower wouldn''t retain an arbitrary setting, but it does make sense if one thinks about it from a water savings point of view. In other words, if you want a fuller water flow, you have to adjust for that on each shower. I''m not hugely picky in my shower flow preferences, and I thought all the flows were fine. I have been using the first two settings depending on my mood.
What I cannot fathom, though, is the customer support. Firstly, the box that the showerhead comes in contains (1) the showerhead (2) a small white plastic tepee like filter (ie. conical with a washer like portion at the larger end) (3) a single sheet of paper with a customer support number. There is no drawing, no instruction page or manual, and nothing extolling the virtues of the showerhead. In particular, there is nothing to say or indicate in which direction the filter should go. And it could fit into the showerhead in one of two ways. I''m not a plumbing kind of a guy. But to my mind, if I insert the filter with the pointy end going into the showerhead, it becomes quite difficult to remove, which would be a real problem if the filter needed cleaning. This is born out by the way the filters are in the faucets at home. Product management are you listening?
As mentioned, I''m not a plumbing kind of guy, so my logic might be completely wrong, but in any case I have to install the second showerhead now that bro is away. Fortunately, there is a toll free customer support number. I opted for technical support. Can you imagine, at technical support for American Standard, they had NO IDEA in which direction the filter should face. Ashley spoke with her supervisor. Jim had no idea either. They couldn''t find a schematic for it on the internet, they said. I double checked to make sure that this wasn''t a 3rd party contractor I was speaking with. No, no, it was definitely American Standard technical support. They didn''t have an answer for how it was that they didn''t know their own products. They said that they would have to research the matter. I got a call back in half an hour, and the first thing I heard was O-ring. I asked, "What O-ring?" After the rep again consulted with a supervisor, she came back with: insert the pointy end of the filter towards the showerhead. In other words, it will be a real bear to remove. However, there was such uncertainty in her voice that I asked to speak with a supervisor and have been dumped into his voicemail.
Update: I wound up talking to American Standard again (I think I eventually called back after no return call), and after complaining that I wasn''t getting an answer to a reasonable and straightforward question, I was transferred to Level 2 technical support (woah!) in New Jersey. I got the answer that the pointy end of the filter should be towards the showerhead, but after pointing out that this would result in difficulty with removing it, the tech allowed that I had a good point. This tech, though, was much more innovative (that''s level 2 for you) and said that the designers were just down the road, and that she would confer with them.
So the final answer that took me half a day to get to, and only three paragraphs of verbiage for you, is that the pointy end faces away from the showerhead! Thus, it is easier to remove for cleaning. To say it another way, the tepee points against the flow of water.
Conclusion: The water flow of the showerhead is good in my book. I took one star off for the large price vs. minimal settings, and one for the disconnect between customer service''s technical support and the product. In my opinion Product Management has created the problem by having not even an image of the filter + showerhead. But at least we finally know in which direction the filter points.

I saw this shower-head on The History Channel. It replaces a shower head that used about 4 gallons a minute. I love the Flow-Wise as it uses so much less water. We live in a three story townhome. I never thought of our water pressure as being poor here, but I purchased this showerhead (due to stellar reviews on Consumer Reports) and discovered that our water pressure is totally inadequate for this product to function on the second and third settings. I thought the first we ordered was defective, only to recieve a second with the same issue. I called American Standard and discovered that indeed our water pressure was the issue. I went as far as increasing our water pressure at the mains in our utility closet, not terribly high, but probably a full 8 turns to the right on the restrictor screwthese work conversely to what you might thinkscrewing tighter clockwise provides more pressure. It was enough to make an immediate difference at the kitchen sink and other places. I tried this showerhead again and the settings would then hold but the central area still came out as a sputtering half-dribble. Do not waste your money. I am going with a Speakman product instead. Alsothis thing looks like a monster out of the boxI had a bad feeling right away, and regettably, this was a Valentine''s present to my husband who takes regular 15-20 min showers daily and it was a complete bust... Frown.I got this Flowise shower head about a week ago to replace a traditional one that wasted too much water. I was afraid that a low-flow head wouldn''t feel nearly as good as a traditional head due to reduced pressure. The Flowise head proved otherwise, at least in one of the modes:The turbine mode is the one the shower head defaults to when you turn off the water. It saves the most water by mixing the water with air. This is supposed to feel like a traditional spray, but it really doesn''t. The mixing cools down the water significantly, so you have to increase the temperature of the water. Using more hot water just wastes energy. The turbine action chops up the water which makes it feel like you are being scratched. The water all turns to mist by the time it reaches the bottom of the tub and I can''t even feel it on my feet. I don''t use this mode.
The combination mode turn turns on both the turbine and the sprayer nozzles. When you do this there isn''t enough flow to keep up the pressure that I desire, but it delivers the most water. Some people may like this mode, but I don''t use it. Suggestion for improvement: only turn on one of the spray rings on this mode.
The last mode turns on just the sprayer nozzles and feels the best. It uses more water than the turbine, but still saves enough to be low-flow. The spray feels just like a traditional shower head, and is the mode I use every day.

Bought a 8oz single cup coffee maker the other day, but was displeased with it, was not enough to fill my coffee mug. It was just enough to fill a tea sized cup. I then bought this unit, that provides 15oz of coffee.Fills my coffee mug with a little left over.
Note: you can add just a tad more water, to provide two cups of 8oz coffee. Very well constructed unit, and also looks great on the counter. Also take note, it does shut off automatically once coffee finishes brewing, which is approximately a quick 2 1/2 minutes.
Works well, and makes a great cup of coffee.I''m a college student, so I was interested in something cheap and compact, but still functional.
This coffee maker is a BREEZE to clean, just rinse out the permanent filter-no other mess involved) even for someone as lazy as me, and works impressively fast. I am still in awe of the fact that seconds after I turn it on, it is pouring HOT HOT coffee into my cup. It is also a simple enough design that I can trust my roommates to use it without worrying they''ll break it...(and also cheap enough that it wouldn''t matter terribly if they did)
The only other mug I have used with it is as tall as the one included and I would caution against using a cup/mug that isn''t tall, as I suspect there would be some splatter.
Another feature I love is that it is incredibly easy to use it as a water-heater; even if you need more than 15 oz., it works fast enough that you can just use it multiple times.
All in all, I am completely satisfied and have no complaints whatsoever. (I have had it for about a month, during which I''ve used it about 4 times a week)

I am a serious coffee drinker and when my last single serve coffee maker finally died, I ordered this one. After reading all the reviews I thought this sounds like a great coffee maker. My new coffee maker arrived and I made a cup of coffee for the next day to take on my comute to work only to discover that my coffee tasted blah hot water (just like one of the reviews stated). When I did read that review I thought, well they didn''t add enough coffee, so the next day I made another cup of coffee, I made sure to put more coffee grounds in the filter. Well, to my dismay, blah hot water again, but with just a hint of flavor. For the amount of coffee you have to put in the filter to just get a good cup of coffee is not worth the cost of this coffee maker. I returned this and ordered my old brand the Black and Decker Brew-N-Go. Now this is a coffee maker, I should have just ordered it from the get go.Read Best Reviews of Toastess TFC-25T Silhouette 800-Watt Personal-Size Coffeemaker Here
I recently bought this coffee maker and am impressed with what I got for the money. It''s utterly simple to use and it''s basic, a nice difference from the expensive and complex machines out there. I''m impressed. If you want to fill up your travel mug, it''s perfect because that''s what it seems meant for. It comes with a travel mug. Anyway, I''ve only had it for a couple of weeks, and can offer just two possible things worth considering: First, for some reason you have to unplug the cord from your outlet once the coffee is done. That has taken some getting used to. Second, once the coffee seems done, I have to put a coffee cup in place of the travel mug to catch drips. There is a removable drip tray, and I''m still getting used to figuring out when it''s done and when I can pull the travel mug out from under the drip-thing. So the price is right, it comes with a permanent filter so buying paper filters isn''t necessary, and it''s simple, looks nice and is easy to use. So far I really like how it has simplified my life. The best part is that I was able to throw out my Cuisinart piece of expensive coffee-maker junk.Want Toastess TFC-25T Silhouette 800-Watt Personal-Size Coffeemaker Discount?
I use this coffeemaker everyday and it is a sturdy and compact design just like I was looking for. It also brews coffee quickly, about 3 minutes for 15oz. The nylon filter is great, no more emptying paper filters, and does not allow grinds through.Things I don''t like:
>The mug does not keep the coffee warm for very long 4/5 minutes tops
>Coffee drips behind the mug while brewing and spills pushing the mug all the way to the back of the maker HELPS with this.
This gets an OK overall review, the biggest frustration for me is the coffee spilling during brewing.
Bunn My Cafe Pourover Commercial-Grade Pod Brewer Save 18% Off
I purchased this brewer in December of 2008 and it has worked perfectly every day. Here is the review I wrote on 26 April of 2009 for an older Amazon listing of the same coffee maker:"I read the reviews about how unreliable this machine was, but I figured that people who are satisfied with their purchases are less likely to write a review than people who have problems. So I took a chance.
My only complaint so far is the difficulty of the start-up procedure. I had to use a baster to force water into the reservoir pump to get it started. I learned this trick from another reviewer on this website. Bunn would do their customers a great service by including a similar tool more suited to the task with each MCP they sell, along with the accompanying instructions. I have used this coffee maker everyday for five months and it has worked perfectly. Yes, it is noisy, but who cares? I finally have a GOOD, HOT cup of coffee in the morning!
While researching coffee makers I went to the Bunn website and discovered a helpful page called "Bunn Coffee Basics" which explained how a good cup of coffee is made. Bunn says that the water temperature during brewing should be between 195 and 205 degrees and that the best flavor comes from the beginning of the brew cycle (brew too cool and too long and you get bitter, acidic coffee). These are two elements of brewing that that drip coffee makers get horribly wrong. Conventional drip brewers never get hot enough, and to make matters worse they take a very long time to brew because they heat their water on the fly. The Bunn MCP pre-heats its water in a stainless steel tank. When I first set-up my MCP I tested the temperature of the water after brewing and it was consistently above 190 degrees (some temperature is lost during the brewing cycle).
I justified the high cost of purchase in two ways:
1. The convenience of brewing at home cannot be overstated. I get my coffee when I want it, the way I want it.
2. Coffee pods cost about 20 to 25 cents each. Starbucks or Dunkin'' Donuts coffee costs a dollar thirty and up, depending on where you live. For me this machine will pay for itself in less than a year."
Nothing has changed about my opinion of this brewer. It makes hot, great tasting coffee fast.My husband first bought me this pod brewer about 4 or 5 years ago because he had one at his office. After about two years, my machine simply stopped working. It was under warranty so BUNN shipped me a replacement at no cost. The next worked for another year or so, and it also became defective. It started running and wouldn''t stop. I had to unplug it to stop it from running, and then sent it back. They also replaced that one. Now, I have machine #3 in the box ready to send back because it stopped working one morning, would not heat the water or anything. The replacement arrived missing two of the rubber feet off of the bottom so I took them off the one I''m sending back (I was getting desperate for my coffee). I just tried to brew a cup, the water tank is full, and the water droplet light is flashing and the machine will not brew.
How could I have such bad luck with this machine? I only drink one cup of coffee per day, sometimes two.
BUNN has been great with customer service and all the replacements. At this point I have to return a machine and pay $50 for a replacement since there is no longer a warranty. I''m hoping they can give me an entirely different model.
This pod brewer makes a wonderful, strong cup of coffee and I love it. Just so disappointed that they are so repeatedly defective for me. I wonder what some buyers will go through after having their machines for a year or two?????
-UPDATE February 2013 -
Bunn replaced my expensive pod brewer with the $99 single pod brewer (plus pay $50). As of today, February 28, 2013, this $99 pod brewer has STOPPED WORKING. I had a cup of coffee in the morning. One in the afternoon. And now this evening, it won''t do a blessed thing. I am researching pod brewers (NOT K CUPS.....don''t want my coffee coming from a plastic cup) to replace BUNN entirely. I don''t feel like buying a new pod brewer every couple years. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!

This unit in short makes a weak cup of hot coffee. The first time I used it, I was surprised to see how fast it brewed a cup of coffee. I thought, how could it extract all of the flavor if the water is pushed through so fast? Well the answer is: it didn''t. The coffee was hot but weak. I was using a 10 gm French Roast pod, which I''ve used for years now and have always been pleased with it. I ordered 12 gram pods the coffee was a little better but still had a watery flavor. I tried calling the manufacurer (there is no number provided with the manual). I finally found a number off the internet. When I called the number I was disconnected, so I gave up. I sent the unit back. I''m not sure if all the units work this way or if mine was defective. Obviously it wasn''t easy to find out by phone or email (I tried both). I giving this unit 2 stars (it deserves one for quality) because the coffee is very hot, which is good and it is fast.Aqua-6 Ozone Generator Ozonator Water Air Oil Purifier 600 mg/h Save 36% Off
This product is not designed to run longer than 20 minutes at a time. Because of this, it really isn''t designed for Ozonating air or oil. It also doesn''t have a fan on it, so I personally wouldn''t buy it for Air purification purposes, UNLESS you are trying to kill the odor in a very small space, like a car. It says in the user manual that oil needs to be Ozonated for hours in order to actually hold any ozone, and since this machine is only designed to run at 20 minute intervals, it really isn''t practical for oil, although, technically it can be used for it.This product is basically for purifying water. However, after reading opinions from users on this product, its very clear to me, that most of the negative reviews it received, were from people who were trying to use it for air and oil purification. Again, these people must have failed to actually read the user manual. Because all of the issues stated in the negative reviews, were addressed already inside the user manual.
This product works EXCELLENT for purifying water...if your looking for a machine to Ozonate your air, or oil.....keep shopping.I bought this ozonator to help cure Lyme disease and it has been very helpful. Because of the O3 molecule, you have free oxygen immediately and this helps to oxygenate our cells but also the free atom is actually poisonous and kills all kinds of pathogens including funguses. Before buying it I talked with an MD who is an authority on oxygen healing at our local hospital and was told that for the purpose of drinking the ozonated water it will indeed kill pretty much everything including not only borrellia and candida but also bartonella (which is aerobic and typically grows in the presence of oxygen). It can also help to reduce herxing because it reacts with toxins and helps your body excrete them. She said ideally to pulse it-take for 3-4 days and then stop for the same period and take antioxidants to normalize functionality. Don''t keep taking it every day. It did do this reduce herx for me on a lower setting. On a higher setting drinking a full glass of water I did herx because it was killing too much at once, but it is a great combination with rife machines for curing hard to kill ''critters'' and quicker and fewer side effects than antibiotics. I am thrilled with it!

As with anything, Value is the key. I''ve been using this generator for over 3 months and it does perform well. It''s perfect for ozonating water and I just keep the setting on number "10" , which is 20 minutes on, followed by 40 minutes off. I''ll ozonate 10 glasses of water a day. At night I let the unit cycle for 20 minutes every hour into just 1 ounce of olive oil. That gives it 8 , 20 minute cycles of ozones and you wind up with lightly ozonated olive oil. If you use it right and don''t expect it to do the same as $2,000 ozone generators, it does an excellent job. It is without a doubt a very good value. Considering I have been running this generator for 20 minutes every hour (followed by 40 mins rest) everyday for months now, it''s pretty rugged for the price. Very good value. When ozonating oilive oil the stone gets clogged. Watch for that or don''t use the stone (just the hose).

I used to have really really bad RA. So bad, i was shopping for one of those riding carts because i couldn''t walk far or well. And I used to be on a lot of drugs to try and control it and the pain was still overwhelming. I started some supplments (Orenda) which absolutely rid me of the pain and got me off the RA drugs but I still felt like i needed faster recovery. A friend suggested i read: The One-Minute Cure. i started the hydrogen peroxide regimen from the book and i have to say i feel like i am really recovering to a much greater degree. Friends and family who see me remark on the fact that i am walking better and faster not like i''m crippled anymore. Anyway, the book mentions ozonating water as another way to highly oxygenate your body. Before I bought this product I read the article on Wikipedia which was mostly negative, discounting ozonated water''s ability to improve your health, but i''m here to tell you, after the first drink i was energized maybe its all in my head, and I don''t do caffeine but i imagine this is what it feels like. I am more awake than i can remember being. In fact, i drank it around 4:30 pm and could not sleep last night yes, i read other reviews that said this can happen, but i couldn''t wait to try it when it was delivered. So i drank another glass this morning after little sleep and feel awesome. Wishing you wellness & joy.ALKALINE HYDROGEN WATER STICK

The effects of oxidation can be witnessed when metal rusts, when a sliced apple browns, or when a material is burning. Oxidation probably works similarly in the human body, though I am not a biologist or scientist and cannot make any claims. It seems that this is why antioxidants are so popular and said to be such an important part of the body''s diet. If oxidation has the effect of breaking down, then antioxidants could be said to have the effect of building up, or at least not breaking down. Please do your own research to verify the accuracy of this information.
We were contemplating purchasing one of the less expensive water ionizers ($700 range), but it didn''t seem to make sense when some of the portable and inexpensive water ionizers such as this stick were making claims of producing negative ORP, which would be antioxidant water (I think). The expensive machines claim to produce water with an ORP in the range of anywhere from -200 to as high (or low) as -1100. As you might guess, ORP in the negative range is an antioxidant, whereas ORP in the positive range is an oxidant (again I think). I don''t know where exactly the transition point is, meaning if 0 ORP is perfectly neutral or not.
So I decided to purchase a digital ORP meter ($100) that also measured pH at the same time I ordered the portable ionizer sticks (I ordered a NewCell Alkaline Hydrogen Portable Water Ionizer Stick and a Alkaline Hydrogen Water Stick aka Diet Water Ion Stick), since using a meter is the only way to determine the ORP and this is the critical measurement. Fortunately everything arrived at the same time. Over the next few days I ran a battery of tests using different waters and taking measurements before using the stick and after. The tests were performed in my kitchen and not highly controlled, although I did do my best by rinsing everything with each new sample using the water of that particular sample as the rinse. By the way, the two portable ionizer sticks were identical, the only difference was that one cost twice as much.
Per the instructions on the portable water ionizer I placed the stick inside of a water bottle and shook for 30 seconds, then let sit for 20 minutes. I took before and after samples. Here are the results of the tests:
These first two tests I did out of the box, the remaining 7 I did a few days later.
Tap water
Before
pH: 8.17
ORP: 490
After
pH: 9.02
ORP: -125
Distilled water

After

These tests I did a few days after I had the ionizer sticks and had been using them frequently (I only used one of the two sticks to keep the results consistent, though I get similar results from either stick):
Tap water

pH: 8.29
ORP: 579
After

Conclusions: As you can see from the results the ionizer sticks had the most significant effects on the distilled and tap waters. Also, I forgot to remove the stick one morning and it sat in the water for almost 2 hours. It raised the pH of the water by about another half point from the standard results but had no appreciable effects on the ORP. It seems that shaking the water vigorously for a longer period of time will get you lower ORP.
I think that these products are definitely worth the money, and I would recommend purchasing an ORP meter if you are serious about getting the results you want.
I hope this information helped you.
UPDATE:
Sorry, I forgot to do the update earlier. About a month after having these units, I noticed that he ORP was not lowering much with use. So I decided to try to clean the units. I read somewhere in another review that using vinegar would help. So I did this. I soaked it in vinegar and shook it like I did when using it normally. Then I drained it after a minute or so, and had to rinse it by adding clean water and shaking as if I were using it normally. I had to do this several times to eliminate the smell of vinegar.
This process dramatically increased the effectiveness of the unit. I didn''t record the numbers but I remember that it was performing similarly to when it was new. A couple or a few weeks later I measured the ORP again and noticed again that it was steadily declining (moving higher into the positive range), so I did the cleaning process again. This time I soaked it and forgot about it for about 10 or 15 minutes, letting it soak in the vinegar. After cleaning out the vinegar, I noticed that there were bits and pieces of the filtering materials that were coming out of the unit into the water. After about a dozen thorough rinsings, this would not stop. I have up after about a dozen rinses believing that I ruined the unit by soaking it in vinegar for a prolonged period of time, and threw it away.
Buy ALKALINE HYDROGEN WATER STICK Now
I bought this based on the other customers review . I distill my well water because of farm contamination . I had been adding cellfood but that gets costly . This stick really makes my water taste so smooth .This is a simple mineral stick to put in your water. It does change the taste of the water. It makes it taste like mineral water. Now whether this is the magic bullet I couldn''t say, but I drink a lot of water from an RO filter, which removes all minerals so I think that this does help. The stick gets rusty and leaks into the water. Initially the alkalinity is high and I thought this was going to be a great, convenient method to make my water alkaline. Until the rust.Product doesn''t work started at neutral pH and was actually *lower* after leaving the stick in for several hours. Please also note the user below posted the exact same statics in another review so I''m not sure which product the statics are from.Berkey Water Level Sight Glass Spigot For Royal & Imperial Systems
I wondered just how much this item really was worth from all the reviews.Well now that I have it with my Berkey, Im glad I got it.
Its a good looking piece and feels of good quality plastics and materials, it feels very sturdy over all.
The item makes use of the filter that much better and easier to see just how full it is.
I would highly recommend paying the extra and picking one of these up with your berkey order. So glad I bought this and it was very easy to install. Instructions for this were very clear and it works great.

So now I''m paranoid. If we don''t test every batch of water, how do we know the filters are actually working? Most of the time, we couldn''t tell by taste that they were failing; it was only the presence of red dye in the water when we tested that alerted us. I wouldn''t feel comfortable at ALL trusting these filters if my health depended on it, like in a disaster or third world country. It makes me wonder how often everybody else is red dye testing their water. Probably not very often, if my experience is anywhere near typical.
On top of that, I gave up completely on the fluoride filters, which were one of my main reasons for purchasing the Berkey. No amount of flushing could get rid of the taste.
Now the plastic spigot handle has broken off (two pieces of plastic 1/16" in size at most were holding it on, one of them broke). It''ll only cost $19 to replace it. My husband stuck a key ring in the hole and we''re getting by until I throw the whole thing out the window or breakdown and buy the part. I''m shopping for alternatives if anybody can recommend a better filter.
They do get points for good customer service, though the company could never explain WHY the filters kept failing. I appreciated them sending the replacements out right away, but it gets pretty annoying to have to wait to use it till new filters arrive and then wonder how long until those ones go bad. Which reminds me, I need to go dye my water. Fingers crossed...

My husband and I have been using Brita style water filters for years -not only does our area (Metro DC) have atrocious bleachy water, but our condo building shuts off the water for monthly repairs and it always runs cloudy white and silty brown afterwards. (You should see the muddy-metallic buildup in the toilet cisterns.)But we use so much water between us for tea and coffee and the home carbonation system, that poor little filter jug would get filled countless times per day, and that''s without using it for cooking water. What I hadn''t noticed was I had eventually stopped drinking water, at all. I had grown to hate water so much that I was disguising it with herbal teas and juice. That''s not right. As soon as I drank my first glass of Berkey water, I could not believe how sweet and light it was. Pretty much exactly what water should be! Gone was the dreaded heavy flatness of the old filter water. It has now become a sought after beverage -we still have to work on developing the habit, but it''s quite a pleasure.
The 4 filters take up a lot of space in top and bottom reservoirs, but there''s still a ton of water on tap; we don''t even fill it daily now, so I am sure we will have a full year of use before cleaning and changing the filters out.
My next purchase will be the glass sight spigot, since it''s cumbersome to lift the top section to check on the lower levels, and I don''t really have the grip for it when full either.
The instructions are quite involved, but I figured it all out quickly enough. They tell you to put the conical white washer inside, narrow end to hole, and the flat black one outside, but it leaked with a slow drip. No matter how I tightened it or how many tricks I learned on the manufacturer/distributor websites, it still leaked into the sink after the first tightening, then seeped slowly into the rubber base liner after the second tightening. It spent the first few weeks hanging over the kitchen sink and getting in the way of everything, until I switched the washers. The white washer doesn''t look great outside, but the leak has been sealed tight, and I''ve been able to move the ensemble to a safer place.
Bottom line, this is the best investment we have made all year. I spent months researching water purification methods and briefly considered the white ceramic candles, but figured if there were ever a municipal water issue, this would be the way to go. It filters out everything except the minerals. Water being so important to survival and health, I figured it was about time we took the leap and got one (in November), and we do not regret it.
***Update, May 2, 2012: Six months later and we''re still loving the clean water. I''ve had to scrub out the top reservoir only a couple of times because of sediment buildup (like plastic dust) from our condo water that floats in the water and coats the inside of the reservoir. Then I rinse out the bottom reservoir just for the sake of it. Last night was my first time needing to scrub the black filters because the flow had stopped. Six months is a good run between scrubs! It''s back to flowing perfectly.
Also, I''m even more relieved that I have the PF-2 Fluoride/Arsenic filters because last week I found out that Maryland has some of the most heavily fluoridated water in the nation!

I posted this elsewhere on Amazon for the Big Berkey and two black filters. This is the same product and actually my purchase came with both the black filters and these two fluoride filters, so I''m re-posting to make sure that buyers beware. The Big Berkey (BB) has been a regular source of frustration and, ultimately, a significant waste of money for me. I would advise everyone to avoid this carelessly designed water purification system. Compared to a Brita or Pur water pitcher, the BB is a significantly bigger up front layout of cash. Doing some research and reading reviews, I was convinced it was worth it, both for superior water filtering and long term savings in water filters. As far as the filtering, I''ll never know. What I can tell you is that the Black Berkey Purification Element design is exceedingly poor. After all this time on the market, you''d think some engineer for Berkey would care enough to have figured out a satisfactory method of securing the filter to the upper chamber. This isn''t the case, however. You have to poke the spindly "threaded mount" onto a washer, then through a hole in the chamber, then secure the element by screwing on a wing nut. Sounds simple enough and it is. Except the wing nuts routinely--and I''ve been through three or so--strip the threads on the stupid filter. Then it doesn''t seal to the upper chamber. Then you have unfiltered water drip into the lower chamber. I bought another expensive set of black purification filter elements, just to get my hands on another wing nut. Same thing happened. And yes, I was very careful. If the wingnuts aren''t tight, unfiltered water seeps into the lower chamber where you expect filtered water. I tried the new filters with the wingnuts. Same thing happened to one of them. The Berkey instructions helpfully advise you to check that there are no leaks by putting food coloring in the upper chamber. I have used all the food coloring in the house, trying time after time to seal the !**#%^! threaded mounts through the upper chamber, tightening the nut just tight enough but not so tight as to strip the threads, then waiting to see if the food coloring comes through. What a horrible little exercise and waste of water as one time after another the colored water seeps around the hole in the upper chamber. It is a pathetic design, really, for fastening a filter to a metal bucket, i.e., the upper chamber. Also, as others have mentioned, the spigot is almost worthless; I upgraded immediately to the glass tubed spigot; otherwise you can''t see how much water is in the lower chamber. So there was that unexpected cost of a new spigot; the cost of another set of filters to try with new wingnuts; and the initial outlay. All added up to a routinely leaky and, therefore, worthless setup. Not to mention the hours wasted messing with the threads and wingnuts and waiting for unfiltered water to seep around the wingnuts into the lower chamber. A complete disaster.Want Big Berkey Water Filter-2 Black Filters and 2 Pf-2 Fluoride Filters Discount?
I was fed up with replacing the filters for my old system every 3 months and decided to buy the Big Berkey water filtering system.Although it''s much more expensive than my old Pure system, replacing the filters every year will be more cost effective.
The filter worked great for 3 month. Water tasted great, no after taste and I was really happy with my purchase.
3 months later, water started to taste funny. I thought it''s time to clean the system so I took it apart and washed it in the dish washer (as it''s recommended in the manual).
Put the filter back together and water still have a acidic after taste. My wife told me the same thing (before me even telling her about it).
Obviously the filters went bad. It''s just 3 months. There were supposed to last for more than a year! I''m just filtering tap water and refilling the filter 1-2 times/week!.
I''m hugely disappointed in the product. I could have stayed with my old Pure system and changed the filter every 3 month and saved $300!
I think this product is greatly overrated or maybe it used to be good in the past. I don''t recommend it to anyone.Warning! Do not handle product horizontally, the black filter element will break off at the screw-in base in less then a year. Trying to get a warranty replacement from Millenium Concepts was impossible, even after they admitted to having a "bad" batch. I do not recommend this product or the distributors.

We are preparing to sell our house, and purchased this product to clean the grout. Our tiles are white, and we thought the grout was originally a light gray. Guess what?? It''s white! The product is easy to mix (1 part water/1 part cleaner), and we applied it to the grout with a small scrub brush. Applying it to one area at a time, we simply went back over it with a wet sponge, later followed by a quick mopping. Our tile & grout truly look brand new, and they are nearly 13 years old!!
I do recommend gloves, long pants, and long sleeves. The cleaner is acidic, and therefore it''s not a good idea to get it on your skin.

After having a new home built we have had to deal with the very unpleasant odor from our roof vent for 3 years now, even after raisng the stack when we paid a plumber to investigate, and called in the septic installer, we still had the horrible odor. I saw this item one day when I was surfing for possible causes and solutions and to my delite it was available on Amazon so after reading the most helpful reviews I ordered it, it came about 10 days sooner than the estimate which was my 1st surprise, then it was very easy to install and ever since I have not even caught a whiff of any unpleasant odor in my back yard !!! I cant rate this item high enough and the seller was awesome as well, if you have any odor problem, dont waste money on a plumber, just buy this simple to install solution, now if anytime in the future I come across that odor I will update my review but I can tell you that it smells country fresh in our yard for now !!! Wish I had seen this years ago.UPDATE: 2012 1 year later we still have not had 1 single episode of odor, I am thinking maybe I should go ahead and order a refill just incase it becomes unavailable, you know how it goes, you find something that actually works then they take it off the market. 10 star plus rating deserved on this product. Dont pay a plumber to waste your money just buy this and you have just fixed your issue and money will be well spent!!

After a year of sewer gas odor and little response from the town of Sturbridge we can now sit outside in our gazebo and enjoy the fresh breezes of summer. Since installing the Sewer Oder Sweetfilter there has been no offensive sewer odor and my neighbor has also installed one eliminating their oder problems. It will be interesting to see how long this product stands up to the amount of odor vapor I have seen exiting the vent pipe.We had a horrible sewer gas odor coming into our office because the sewer vent is very close to our rooftop A/C unit. I looked on Amazon for a solution, and came across the Sweetfilter. Based on the reviews, I ordered it immediately, and I installed it on my sewer vent pipe as soon as I received it. I am amazed at how quickly the smell disappeared completely! Literally the office smelled like a sewer in the morning, I installed this at lunchtime, opened the doors to my office to air it out, kicked the A/C back on, and NO SMELL! I would seriously rate this over 5 stars if I could! I was disappointed it was not Amazon Prime Eligible because I wanted it sent overnight...in fact I would have paid double to have it overnight shipped because the smell was so foul! Of course USPS mis-shipped the package, so it took 5 days to receive it (no fault of the seller). Now that I finally have it, I could not be happier. My neighbors are having the same issues, so I told them about Sweetfilter immediately.
UPDATE: This product worked great for 3 weeks, then I started noticing an odor again. For some reason, the sewer odor is stronger than normal in my business plaza. So, the company refunded my money & sold me their larger unit: Commercial septic systems odor control for 6 inch vent pipes
The larger unit holds 3X the Oxpellet Filter Media as this unit. So, if you have a VERY STRONG odor, buy the larger unit from the above link instead of this one!
