Toastess Electric Jug Kettle Save 9% Off

Toastess Electric Jug Kettle, WhiteThis little kettle is just what you get for the money. No hype, no nonsense. Just a good electric kettle that boils water

I find it takes 10 mins. to boil the water, but what do you expect for 29 bucks. I would liked to have know that the cord does not detach at all, which makes filling it and using it to pour water difficult.

Pretty good as kettle.

But on/off button is unreliable.

Mine died in 1 month.

Works great! Affordable! I love the fact it shuts itself off after the water boils. Heats fast. Safe for use at home or work. It works just as well as the higher priced models.

The lid is a bit difficult to open and shut, but what in life isn''t a bit difficult? Get over it. The thing heats very quickly, I think 2-3 minutes for the minimum setting which is one serving. Pours easily, is balanced nicely for a small hand. The plug doesn''t come out but then, it''s easy to clean with a damp cloth inside and out. It''s just water. I love the shut off. I don''t have to worry about it boiling and boiling. Energy saving. Keeps the water hot a good while after it''s shut off. Mine is still plugging along after daily use for 5 months and I expect it to continue much longer. Great kettle. I wish it came in colors.

The search is over!! This kettle does everything I want it to do; boil water quickly and shut itself off when I take too long to return to the kitchen! I really like the fact that it holds enough water for 4 mugs of tea! Handy when I have guests. It''s fast, too! I didn''t want anything fancy or expensive, but did want something I could rely on. This is a great tea kettle; I bought one for myself and one for my mother!

Gaggia 12300 Baby Class Manual Espresso Machine Save 40% Off

Gaggia 12300 Baby Class Manual Espresso Machine, Brushed Stainless SteelWe got the Gaggia Baby Class 12300 over the weekend. I must confess that I purchased it not here at amazon (although I am an amazon shopper for life, I think). Firstly, the built of this machine is by far superior than my first esp machine, breville cafe roma which I had to dispatch with a heavy heart, because it was a good (cremaaaaa!!!) espresso machine. I also have a Delonghi 702, which got great reviews, but I cannot get good crema from it, so it''s going back. Stainless steel casing, the cash basin is cast iron, and the filter weighs about a pound.

After carefully reading the manual,(I rarely do with other new "toys"), using this machine is easy to use. I always "prime" the machine as instructed by running it without the filter attached until the cup is filled with just water.

I usually use a clear mug/cup to see the beautiful crema that comes out.

The frother: one of the reviewers that I read was mildly complaining about it falling off. If you read the section on how to clean it and put it back it should not happen anymore. Tip: youtube has videos from casualfilm that shows you how to prime, make capuccino, clean, the machine.

Cappuccino: Wow! that''s all I can say... first you make your espresso, and by the time you put your milk (stright from the fridge) the machine has warmed up already that it only takes a few seconds to heat up the milk and create a great frothing.

I have nothing but praises for this machine!!! I will try to update in about a month....

You pay for what you get. The Gaggia is pricey BUT it is worth the price for a great cup of espresso. We have previously owned two much cheaper models by other manufactures and they never produced a great cup of espresso. The Baby Gaggia is extremely easy to operate and contains all quality parts, most importantly it produces a world class cup of espresso or cappuccino. It is a great reminder of vacations to Italy.

I had a Gaggia Classic for years, which gave one consistently great shot after another. I upgraded to the Gaggia Baby Class, and after 7 months I have given up. It has gone back for service twice, and each time came back not working properly. When I complained, I was told the problem was a "new" problem, and even though it was still under warranty, I would have to pay shipping ($50.00).

My new Baby Class is inconsistent and pours great shots alternating with shots I have to throw away. Service from Whole Latte Love/Importika has deteriorated since I had my first Gaggia machine. I have finally given up and gotten rid of this machine and purchased a new one, a different brand from a different vendor.

Very disappointing.

This is a great looking machine and functions very well. It takes some time to get the crema right but it when it works properly, it''s excellent.

However, after using it regularly for four weeks, it seems the filter becomes very clogged very quickly and has to be cleaned often. The holes seem quite small and the water accumulates in the awkward catch tray quite often. It''s frustrating because water also accumulates under the machine. Lots of cleaning involved. Didn''t happen on our old Saeco. Suppose it could be the grind but its been the same used from day one. At this point, I would not rank it over 4 stars.

About a year ago I upgraded from the Gaggia Coffee to this machine, the Gaggia Baby Class, which, among other things, has a third solenoid value -the main reason for my upgrade. Although the Gaggia Coffee is a great machine that I won''t part with, the Gaggia Baby Class is indeed an upgrade. First, I should note that I have my Gaggia paired with a Gaggia MDF grinder and I roast my own beans. The Gaggia Baby Class is refined and well designed. It''s much quieter than my Gaggia Coffee and doesn''t drip from the portafilter while sitting idle. Although not perfect, third solenoid works pretty well in producing a dry puck. With my Gaggia Coffee, after I pulled a shot I''d have to leave the portafilter in the machine for about four to five minutes to drip dry the puck...so the third solenoid definately saves time in the mornings. The Gaggia Baby Class produces textbook timed shots every time. (I weigh out 15 to 16 grams of fresh coffee, with my grinder set at #3). I''m not a straight-up espresso drinker myself, but I can certainly recognize a bad shot. Here, the Gaggia doesn''t dissapoint. Visually the Gaggia is a beautiful machine. The stainless steel is attractive. I never get tired of admiring the machine on my counter. The drip tray is fairly deep and easily pulls out for cleaning. The buttons are adequate. The on/off button is behind the machine, which is a little odd. The other buttons work fine but don''t light up very brightly. The water container holds quite a bit and pulls out easily and appears to contain a little microfilter. I don''t use the steam wand, so I apologize for my lack of insight here (I used a Frabosk stovetop frother -works great.) Gaggia''s aren''t known for steaming ability due to the small boiler. You get what you pay for and the Gaggia fills that void between the Miss Silvia and the lesser machines below. I didn''t go with the Miss Silvia due to price and its reputation for being less-than-user-friendly machine. I would highly recommend the Gaggia Baby Class (and at least a Gaggia MDF grinder to go with it).

Sanitary Filter

Sanitary FilterAs I''ve experienced with Midwest before, their shipping price ruins whatever savings you would find. They''re consistently higher than every other homebrew supply in the US.

Connectors too large for standard aquarium tubing. Even hard to get 1/4 inch inner diameter tubing attached without lots of stretching and hassle.

Buy Sanitary Filter Now

I am using the item to filter out contaminates from the air for a project that requires clean air. The item works great so far. ALSO I noticed the price just dropped today drastically. It was 7.50 now its 4.50. So I am guessing this vendor is responding to the other reviews. Try to find another product that will do the same job as this on this site. I have not found one personally. And as far as the not fitting the hose. I take a pair of needle nose pliers stick them inside the tubing. NOT the filter. The tubing. And then I apply a little heat to the tubing and stretch the mouth of the tubing to fit around the filter. OK not ideal I know but it works.

14804 Sears Kenmore Humidifier Wick Filter

14804 Sears Kenmore Humidifier Wick FilterThese filters were not Kenmore filters but were supposed to be a replacement filter for a Kenmore they were an off brand and very inferior. I am using them since I don''t want the expense of returning them. Never again will I buy from this source.

This product was horrible. I purchased two to get us through the next few months and neither filter lasted longer than a week. The issue is that it looks like they are put together with some type of glue gun or something. The glue melted into the humidifier basin so there was a white film in it. Then the filter itself formed a goopy barrier (again the glue) where it hit the water in the humidifier which blocked the filter from working at all anymore.

Just horrible.

Buy 14804 Sears Kenmore Humidifier Wick Filter Now

This filter is not a genuie Kenmore filter but rather an no name brand replacement. The filter did not wick the water as good as a genuine Kenmore filter nor did it last as long. It virtually stopped wicking after about a month of use while I got a full season of use out of a Kenmore filter in a second humidifier that I have. This filter was much cheaper so I guess you get what you pay for. I would not buy this product again, not a good value.

I''ve used many different brands of filters for the Sears humidifier and these are not good. They do not have much wicking material, large "honeycomb" holes, thus they do not produce much moisture. With less fabric they silt up with the minerals very quickly. After about a week it was hard as a rock (lime) and do not wick. This price was good but you get what you pay for.

Bosch Axxis Series : WTE86300US 24 Condenser Electric Tumble Dryer Save 15% Off

Bosch Axxis Series : WTE86300US 24 Condenser Electric Tumble Dryer
  • Ventless Drying Required No Ducting
  • Large Capacity on Compact Footprint
  • 11 Drying Cycles and 4 Drying Options
  • LED Display with Remaining Time
  • Long-lasting One Piece Stainless Steel Structured Drum

We live in a brownstone in New York City with no ventilation in our cellar for a conventional dryer. We''ve had the Bosch for 2 years. Bosch makes one of the few condensation dryers with the capacity to dry large loads. It takes about 45-60 minutes to dry a standard load of shirts and socks. Large bedspreads take about twice as long. It''s a lot slower the conventional dryers, but it does the job. It is easier on fabrics because it simply pulls moisture from the chamber instead of blasting clothes with hot air. My clothes seem to hold color better. It''s expensive, but fine if you don''t mind the wait.

The outlet for this dryer is not conventional. It''s not a big deal (inexpensive) to get an electrician out to switch it, but that will be a small added cost.

Buy Bosch Axxis Series : WTE86300US 24 Condenser Electric Tumble Dryer Now

Like I''ve seen on many blogs (which I should have listened to), the Bosch Axxis dryer is eccentric/temperamental and doesn''t work half the time (and it''s very expensive to begin with, but that''s where your costs start). It''s washer companion is just fine, but between a host of different elements on the dryer, maintaining it is difficult at best, the sensor is extremely temperamental, and Bosch''s service is criminal. Bosch has a curious "blame the customer" attitude, uses a 5th rate corrupt repair guy in the NYC area -and don''t seem to care (repairs cost $99 for the visit + $120/hour for labor). It looks good on top of their serviceable washer, and that''s about it -buyer beware!

The Good: These are great units for a second floor closet without a vent. If you have a vent, there are better and much cheaper alternatives!

The Bad: High Cost, Long Drying Cycles and (in my case) Poor Quality and Service.

You are paying a lot of money for the Bosch name and I don''t think the quality supports the price. When the dryer needs repair, you will find out that it is cheaper to replace than repair.

Life is too short.

Want Bosch Axxis Series : WTE86300US 24 Condenser Electric Tumble Dryer Discount?

We inherited a new Bosch HE washer/condenser dryer set with our house. We were so excited! Don''t have to go buy new appliances! But now I know why they left them here.

The dryer condenser is not well designed. It is flat, so the condensate doesn''t drain well. Then it becomes full of water, then it stops condensing, then the clothes don''t get dry. I literally take this out between every load to clean out the condensed water, and I still have to air dry it completely every 3-4 loads or it just won''t work. Plus, lint gets in the metal condenser and it''s almost impossible to clean out. I''ve tried pipe cleaners and towels and chopsticks.... it''s about a food long and has closely spaced plates of metal ridges for surface area for condensing. The thing is, the lint travels through on the air and gets stuck on the metal ridges. Then because it is so long and the plates are so close together, it''s almost impossible to clean. It should be snap-together or something so you can open it up to get the lint out. But it''s not. My best solution so far is to take used dryer sheets and run them through with chopsticks. It takes at least half an hour to get most of the lint out, and it''s tedious and unnecessary.

The front vent is difficult to open to clean as well. Also, because it''s not designed to vent to a duct to go outside, the water condenses in your laundry area (for us, a closet with doors).

All-around poor design. Full of frustration. I got a set of HE stackable washer/dryer from Sears, the Kenmore brand. Better warranty and works great. More features, same size. Also, since I got it on sale, cheaper. Go to a brick and mortar store and save yourself some grief.

I just moved into a new apartment that came equipt with this dryer. It is so bad that I felt compelled to write a review. It does not do the one thing a dryer is suppose to do which is dry clothes! I have only used it for two weeks and it takes me three times longer to do my laundry than my old dryer. I am afraid to see what my electric bill is going to be. The sensors are suppose to be able to tell when my clothes are dry but it always shuts off when they are still very damp. I start the cycle again and it shuts itself off because it insists that the clothes are dry! I put a load in and let it run naively thinking that it would actually dry the clothes. I forgot about it, as I often do being a busy mother, and when I went to get the clothes the next morning they smelled because the dryer stopped while the clothes were still wet! I had to wash the clothes all over, which is a huge suck of time, money and energy! There is a timer setting, which is all use now, but you can''t control the temperature when using the timer. I almost wish I had bought this dryer myself so that I could return it. Alas, I am stuck with it unless I can convince my landlord to replace it. Since I pay the electric bill I am guessing he is not going to be too bothered. If you would like a dryer that actually dries clothes do not buy this. If you prefer your clothes damp and smelly then this is the one for you.

NT-501 Automatic Water Distiller

NT-501 Automatic Water Distiller
  • Pure steam distillation.
  • All stainless construction.
  • 6 gallon storage tank.
  • Distills on-demand

This is a high-quality product, we have been running it for about 6 months and it works perfectly.

Here are the great things about this distiller:

1. This is as energy efficient as any distiller out there.

2. It produces great tasting water in quantities large enough so that we never run out.

3. We use this water for anything that goes inside our bodies and trust it.

4. Shipped exactly on time and was complete.

5. High quality stainless-steel construction looks great in our kitchen.

6. Heavy-duty parts, should last a long time.

7. It really is fully automatic.

Things to know:

1. Before you buy any distiller you need to understand something distillers use a substantial amount of electricity, more than 3kw hours/gallon. That''s not unique to this distiller but if you buy one without understanding this fact, you''ll be in for serious sticker shock when you get your next electric bill.

2. There are a few plastic parts the feed tube, the charcoal filter, the drip tube, and some of the internals of the spout.

3. I replaced the plastic feed tubing with copper tubing and did not use the in-line charcoal filter. We chose instead to have a whole-house charcoal filter and water softening installed. I definitely recommend soft water if you can it will greatly reduce the maintenance. There is a short length of silicon rubber tubing between the intake valve and the boiling chamber inside the unit, but silicon rubber is pretty inert and it''s upstream of the boiling chamber, so we decided to leave it.

4. It''s a little bit of a chore to get to the boiling chamber to clean it out, but the side spout to drain and flush the system is conveniently located.

5. This is a large unit, plan for space.

We''re very happy with the unit, it''s an impressive addition to our kitchen.

I had that new hole drilled and the handyman noticed that the unit didn''t come with some of the necessary parts. I called the manufacture to get them and they didn''t help at all. We had to search for something similar. IN the end, I paid $700 to install it!!!!! It seems to work fine but I wouldn''t do it again at least not with this one.

Culligan Water Pitcher Filter PR-1 Save 9% Off

Culligan Water Pitcher Filter PR-1
  • This conveniently, easy-to-use water filtration system provides exceptionally clear, fresh-tasting water for drinking and cooking
  • Clear plastic pitcher has an oval slimline design that fits in most refrigerator doors
  • Provides 2 quarts of water
  • Built-in and easy-to-replace filter offers advanced contaminant reduction for pennies a gallon
  • Filter is designed to achieve 98% Lead Removal, 90% Mercury Removal, 99% Copper & Zinc Removal, 96% Chlorine Removal, 94% Particulate & Sediment Removal and significantly reduces bad taste and odors

Nice filter design. When the pitcher is half empty, fill it from the tap. This way you always have at least 1 quart of filtered water ready. You can still pour from the filtered water at the bottom, as the top half with the tap water trickles through the filter.

The pitcher must be used. The filter cannot dry out, nor can the water be left to sit for more than "3-4 days" without replacement.

I like this filter, but I also need to get a water filter that fits directly on my faucet, because there are too many occasions where it is inconvenient to get and use the pitcher from the refrigerator.

Knowing when to replace the filter and where to get it from are problems. They suggest replacing it every 160 quarts (80 pitchers); or two months ...

OK.

I''d been a longtime user of the Brita pitcher, and was very satisfied with the results. Water tasted much better, and Kool-Aid was even more healthy without all the crap and bad afterstate of the water. I moved from the place I was and forgot the pitcher, and now I''m in a small studio and needed another filter pitcher. Unfortunately, it hurt me paying $40 for the Brita the first time, and I didn''t want to repeat it. I saw this Culligan for sale down at Albertsons, they wanted $20 for it. Well, you get what you pay for.

First off, its good points. Its slim design is great when you have a small or minimum room fridge. The filter is easy to load. There''s a pour spout on top that keeps particles from getting in, and there''s a small switch at the very top where you can set the month in which to replace it.

Now, the bad.

The instructions say to soak the filter for 15 minutes (to loosen any stray carbon). My first complaint is that Brita does not have this requirement. My second complaint is that it doesn''t work. I soaked mine for 2 hours, then when I ran water through it, I still saw particles. This is from already clear water fresh from a bottle. So it came from the filter. I shook the filter, thinking maybe I could dislodge the rest of it. I was shaking for 30 minutes and particles still came out. Bad. And of course, without the filter, it defeats the whole purpose of having the pitcher. You get what you pay for sometimes. It''s sad that we Americans have to pay almost 100% more in order to get a quality product, instead of our business just making quality and charging a fair price. C''est la vie. Brita Mae, I''ve learned my lesson, I''m coming home.

The Perfect Steam Professional Commercial Garment Steamer

The Perfect Steam Professional Commercial Garment Steamer is Designed for Professional Cleaning Services & Heavy-Duty Home Users!WeLL, if you are reading this then I know you must be a part of that community, turned into a tribe, a cult of people looking high & low for that perfect steamer that first didn''t cost an ARM & A Leg & part of your rent that you could actually afford and that actually works.

Well, your search is over; THIS IS IT.

Now for those of you who think $99 is too much-well you DO HAVE to SPEND some money for a generally well-made, thought out design.

The rest of us know that a lot of upright garmet steamers can & do cost $150-$400! so, let me tell you why I like this particular steamer.

#1: It relatively easy to set up. Just read the instructions (2) pages & look at the little diagrams..had I''d heeded my OWN Advice & not been so pig headed; I would of realize that the second adjustable bar was actually within the first one & it telescoped out to Any desired height that you want.

#2: There is an DEFINITE ON Switch that''s located at the base that you must step on it like a vaccum cleaner lever to turn the machine on.

#3: The handle is simply activated by pressing the word ''STEAM''. You will then see these little hash marks indicating the levels of steam that you want.

#4: It has a large water well size (1/2 gallon milk) but it is SO EASY TO lift up and fill-you don''t need to drag the whole machine over.

#5: It can last for 3 WHOLE Hours!, I kid you not!

#6: And Steam it does! It''s not one of those pitiful hand held models that spit and spit and run out in 10 minutes (Joy Mangano) And it''s not a handheld that although it make chuck & ruck it really only has uncontrolled steam for the first 2 minutes before it dies off (Shark-Euro Pro household clean steamer) and you have to wait before it can build up enough steam to actually be able to use it again & by then it''s run out of water.

And it''s not like that other Shark-Euro Pro Steam Press that will kill your arm because it''s so heavy & spits.

#7:The thing that I like the most is the adjustable steam features: It only delivered steam when & where you''d wanted it.

I took the most crumpled ALL COTTON shirt & I was amazed at seeing how easily the wrinkles melted away & this steamer got hot enough to allow for creases to made easily (there''s even a creasing tool).

But what I LIKE THE MOST was putting the little cloth boot on the head, dialing down the steam & using it over those ''princess'' skirts. It was like butter. Right over those little mini colored plastic rhinestones, colored stones, woods, all sort of nifty embellishment. And I still had more than 1/2 of the water tank filled!

I did 4 skirts, 1 blouse, 1 pr. of linen pants! All, in one session! This machine has just paid for itself in the time & money it would of cost me going to the dry cleaners!

I know I must sound ''giddy'' but it''s so nice to have something that ACTUALLY WORKS!

And, Oh1 I forgot to tell you that it has clips at the top & Bottom to hold the garment snugly eliminating the need for a ''press board'' but be cautioned! Until you get the hang of it, you might to use a ovennglove on one hand because it can really steam your garments hot! (a litte ouch after the pants!)

***Alhough this machine says that is made for by HoMedics; some of the newer models might have a label on the top & side of the box that reads "Home Touch"... if you''d look at the very bottom of the box on it''s south in, you will find the HoMedics brand listed).

I would so much like to recommend this product, but I am rather compelled to advise against anyone purchasing this device. When it works, it works very well. The very first order, I received a machine that simply did not work. Having to repackage and return it was hassle enough, but I went ahead and ordered another. The second machine did work as promised, but the on/off switch has been wonky from day one. Now it seems that I will be returning this second machine as the on/off switch has given up the ghost altogether. What a hassle! It is too bad, I could definitely chalk up the first to dumb luck, but when a second purchase brings another set of problems, it is a bit too much.

***6-month update** October 2011

I''m still very satisfied with the steamer. All below is still true. It still produces a strong flow of steam. The only problem is that it spits water droplets when steaming. Not a problem per se for me, it dries, but I can see if you had to wear a shirt in public right after steaming, it would show wet spots. Another reviewer tried using the cloth cover; that sounds like a good idea. I think I need to use vinegar to clean it to see if it helps. I use reverse-osmosis water from our in-house system.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 2011 (below)

We''ve used our Tobi steamer for 3 years, but needed an upgrade. I wanted not to drink from the water fountain, but from the fire hydrant (not literally ;). I looked and looked for something with the steam output Tim Taylor would be proud of. And, I found it with this garment steamer. The key words are: "pressurized steam." I just opened the box and used it for the first time. I love it. Compared to the Tobi this thing really melts the wrinkles-fast. It has many nice features.

The pluses:

1. steam, steam, steam (controlled steam output)

2. on/off steam button

3. solid base (not going to tip over)

4. nice-sized water tank

5. compartment for attachments

6. good height

7. automatic shut off I can''t tell you have many times we''ve left the Tobi on, now no worries.

Minuses (really minor):

1. didn''t care for the garment "hanger." But, it still has a hook to hang your clothes hanger on, when you''re done with the front, just flip it over to do the back.

2. some plastic parts

So far so good. I''ll try to add an update in 60 days.

This is a great steamer that does the job it''s supposed to do. I love that I''m able to turn the steam on and off on demand and change the level of "pressurized" steam that is used depending on the material. It comes with some handy tools...I use the creasing tool all the time on my cotton uniform pants and they look like I ironed them. The clips on the hanger attachment are a little weak in the gripping department so a very heavy pair of pants might slip out of the clothes pins...This is so minor compared to the wonderful job the steamer does. The hanger attachment comes off so you can use your own hanger if you want. The water is heated very quickly and you have steam within 1-2 minutes, so it''s very convenient to use even when you''re in a little bit of a rush. I am 5''11" so I sometimes hang longer items over the door to steam, but for the average height person the telescoping pole will work just fine. I am so happy I found this gem and have not had my iron out since I purchased this. I''ve recommended it to all my friends.

Want The Perfect Steam Professional Commercial Garment Steamer Discount?

I am an avid steamer as one gets instant results with the effort they put in. How many other things in life can one say that about? I loved this steamer when I first got it. It is incredibly well made with metal and strong plastic parts. It is so easy to assemble. And it generates a lot of steam. But it spit like crazy when I first got it. I did read the manual to make sure I did everything correctly, and I have been steaming for years, but it still spit constantly when I used it. I had done my research carefully on this steamer and knew many people liked it because it didn''t spit (a common problem with steamers). So I gave the steamer the benefit of the doubt and sent it back to Amazon and got a replacement.

And I fell in love with the replacement. It worked just as it should. The wrinkles fell away easily and with little effort. There was no spitting, no gasping, no wheezing the steamer continued to chug along as it should, just generating pure, unadulterated steam.

But within a few days, the steamer started spitting again. Not huge spitballs, but little spurts. However, that can ruin a silk shirt or a delicate garment. Nothing had changed on how I was steaming, the water I was using, the type of clothes I was steaming. I hadn''t changed my diet, the type of music I was listening to, or my Facebook page (just kidding, I don''t have a Facebook page). I lower the level of steam I am using to the minimum but it doesn''t stop spitting. Fast forward a few days later, and the steamer is now spitting at a more constant rate. So I put one of the cloth "hoods" that come with the steamer so the steam is not going directly on the clothes. Magically, there is enough steam coming through the hood to get the wrinkles out of my clothes but the hood is catching the extra spitballs. I go to take the cloth hood off and I notice it has marks all over it where the steam nozzles were. I remove it, and the steam head face plate has burn marks all over it as if it was handle having the cloth hood on it. But it''s an accessory that comes with the steamer the steamer can''t handle it''s own accessories?

So my love affair with my steamer ended. And it only has been two short weeks...

Blueair Replacement Particle Filter for Blueair 500/600 Series Air Purifiers Save 20% Off

Blueair Replacement Particle Filter for Blueair 500/600 Series Air Purifiers, Set of 3I ordered the Blueair filters from the Recording Store, and they were not shipped until 5 days after the order was placed which resulted in longer shipping time than from other retailers. They were genuine Blueair filters and arrived in good shape.

With regard to others complaints about not having the charcoal filter, that''s true, but after visiting the Blueair web site, it looks like Blueair has changed their manufacturing process and now include active carbon in the polypropylene portion of the filter.

I just purchased these filters are they do not match the picture. I have owned my purifier for a couple years now and have bought several sets of replacements. This is the first time that I received filters without the additional black carbon filter. The most recent set are just the white particle filter.

Yes, I know they sell several kinds of different filters, but I pulled up one of my old orders and clicked through to the product so I would expect to receive the exact same item. And not matter what, the picture shows the filter with carbon, which is definitely not what they shipped.

Hopefully this is just an Amazon glitch and they will sort it out quickly because the Blueair is a great air purifier. I''ve never had a problem with mine and it does a great job of cleaning the air.

First, the good pricing was best after searching the internet. Now, the bad Blueair seems to be cutting every corner it can think of. The surface area of the filter has been reduced so they colored the outside of the box black (previously it was white) so you don''t notice that it no longer fills the entire screen of your Blueair unit. You can see that now 10% of the edges are cardboard and not filter. Secondly, at night I can now see light shining from inside the Blueair unit, meaning the filters are now thin enough to let light through where the old one were not. Sad that Blueair felt they had to go this route. I would rather they raise prices and keep a producing a quality product.

I have lived with allergies for years and in that time tried several purifiers.

The Bluair is simply the best I have ever used. There has been a noticable reduction in airborn allergens in my place. I have even weened off my allergy meds. Using this in conjunction with allergy reducing pillow cases and mattress covers will improve your quality of life by 100%

The ONLY thing I wish the machine had was a UV light, but you can keep the negative ION crap.

The first sets of filters that I bought for my 601 came from Ireland and were exact and looked like they were worth the $75 or $90, whatever it was that I paid for them. Since then it seems like each time that I purchase filters they become a little smaller and a little cheaper looking.. but what are ya gonna do? It is still the best system that I have found and Amazon still sells them as inexpensively as anyone else.

Regarding the white cardboard showing through.. The black, ''Giant'' Sanford magic marker, I believe, is the one that will cover the edges of the cardboard in one pass.

I have a small (less than 600 sq. ft.) apartment, and the BlueAir 601, placed in a central location seems to do a credible job of cleaning the air throughout. It has 3 speeds. The lowest, you cannot hear it run. The middle, where I leave it most of the time that the apt. is shut up, is lightly audible but of the type noise you can very quickly ignore. Top speed is loud but I only use that periodically.. when cooking odors, for instance, are present. I don''t feel that it eliminates odors, with the regular particle filters, but it does seem to help.

As I only have my apt. closed up enough to justify using the 601 for half of the year, I use the filters for one year.. cleaning the machine and changing the filters at New Years, and cleaning the machine (with a quick pass over the dusty side of the filters) near the fourth of July, when I do other unrelated maintenance. The 601 is relatively easy to break down and vacuum. There are a few areas that I wish were easier to get to, such as the fan blades themselves and some of the wiring, but on the whole it''s not that tough a chore!

I would recommend the BlueAir 600 series to anyone contemplating an air cleaner, who would like to avoid buying several cheaper systems on their way to finding out they should have just ''bit the bullet'' and started with this more expensive but efficient unit to begin with...

The filters last over a year by now and is still running. We are very happy with the purchase. Although the flow is slightly slower than a regular faucet filter system by PUR, it is not too bad depending on the water pressure and flow. Installation takes about a minute, not the easiest and is pretty manageable. Highly recommended!

I''ve been using this filter system for years. The filters make gallons and gallons of great tasting water. When the weather is rainy, our water is pretty heavily chlorinated. Every other tap in the house smells of chlorine, but not our filtered tap. Not a whiff of chlorine. Water tastes as good if not better than the water we get delivered from that famous spring up in Maine.

And, once you get the hang of it, you can pop the old filters out and the new ones in with nary a drop of water lost.

Starbrand Products Gevalia 12-Cup Coffeemaker

Starbrand Products Gevalia 12-Cup CoffeemakerI got this free from a Gevalia offer bought 2 pounds of coffee, didn''t even have to pay s/h. I liked the looks of it we got the black with stainless steel.

That said, I would never have paid any amount of money for this. The first one broke within a week. It worked for a few days. Then, the coffee came out cold. Then, it stopped working completely.

Gevalia sent a free replacement (the guy on the phone admitted, off the record, that these things break often). They didn''t need the old one back, so I opened it up to see if it could be repaired (a hobby of mine).

No surprise that ALL the parts came from Asia. I also discovered that BOTH the pump and the heating element broke, separately. So even if I fixed/replaced the pump, the coffee would still come out cold. This is quite amazing to me, since my previous coffee maker still works after nearly 20 years, and after having been dropped many times. Oddly, the wiring was sturdy & just fine (side note: a high percent of appliance problems/failures are simply frayed wires, which can be easily mended with electrical tape, even by a novice, in under 5 minutes).

The replacement unit came & works (almost 2 years old now). But I still have major problems with it:

Pros:

* Stainless/black steel looks sleek

* Digital clock

* Auto-shutoff

* Reservoir float indicator is nice

Cons:

* "Pause & pour" does NOT work well. Only works 50% of the time, again, due to bad design. The rest of the time it makes a huge mess. This was the case on both my units.

* The stainless finish gets dirty easily

* There is no backup battery, so the clock resets every time you unplug the unit.

* The pump will definitely not last long it''s overworked due to poor design/layout.

* Because it''s a top-load pump & filter, the steam comes up through the top. You cannot change the filter for 20 minutes, without risk of scalding yourself. It would be very difficult to make 2 consecutive pots of coffee (i.e., if you have guests). Plus, the excessive steam warped the cabinets above the unit.

* The worst problem the reservoir is only about 1" in diameter. It''s impossible to load it without spilling.

-> Bottom line: Looks nice, but I''ve never heard of such a difficult, problematic coffee maker. This almost seems like a practical joke by some engineers, or perhaps designed by someone who has never used a coffee maker before. Avoid this one.

This is your basic coffee maker.

Things you should know:

The "stainless" finish is actually grey paint. That''s fine; it doesn''t look bad. I would actually describe the color as "aluminum".

It uses cone filters. This is a plus, and what separates this maker from, say, a Mr. Coffee. The rest of it is basically the same thing. Ancient technology.

If you pull the carafe out while coffee''s dripping, it''ll stop -a "pause" feature. Don''t they all do that nowadays?

I never use the timer/programmability feature. As stated elsewhere, the clock has no battery, so, if you unplug it, you have to reset the time. My stove and microwave both have much bigger/brighter/better clocks, so those are my main ones. The main advantage of the electronic on/off switch is that it will switch itself off after some time, in case you forget. Not having the house burn down is always welcome.

There is a water tank float gauge on the side, so you can tell exactly what the water level is. This is nice, especially if you can reach the maker using your sink sprayer, to fill it. (I can''t, but wish I could.)

My main complaint? The carafe dribbles when pouring coffee. You have to do it slowly. It''s kind of annoying -but not enough to make me buy another one; I''m just going to wait until this one dies. (I''ve been waiting a while now. Murphy''s Law.)

A friend of mine gave me her Cuisinart grind and brew, real stainless, $200 coffee maker. It turned out to be ridiculously complicated and hard to clean and missing some basic feature this one had, so I went back to this simple Gevalia. Simple + reliable = good.

As stated elsewhere, this is the kind of machine you get when you sign up for Gevalia''s coffee club. (I didn''t do this. I think I bought it used on a leading auction website.)

Would I buy again? Probably. I''d want one that has all the same features, minimum.

Over 3 months ago in early January, 2009, I ordered a replacement carafe for the "free" coffee maker they sent me. The wrong one was sent. I called and was assured they would send me a return address label. After a month, I called again and was told the same thing. The third time I asked for a supervisor and was told it would be handled. The forth time, I threatened to put up a youtube video and promised results. This was Andy employee number 643113 on April 2. Still nothing in the mail. On April 20 I called again and was told that my credit card had been refunded, but to get the proper carafe I had to re-order and be charged. I said, "You have got to be kidding. After 3 months of hell?" I still have not heard from them, nor do I expect to. I am stuck with the wrong carafe cluttering my house. I sent this review to Gevalia and they simply repeated their new song: your account was refunded to get the correct carafe, re-order. Fat chance!

I have owned this coffee maker for about 3 years now and never had a problem with it. Some people complain of dishwasher issues, but I never had a problem. I am getting a second one for $20 from the company website with one of their specials. My roommate insists on brewing coffee at the same time as me, so we are getting a second coffee maker. As with all products, not every single one of them is going to be great. I think the bad reviews are misrepresenting the many owners of this product out there. Plus the coffee is pretty good if you get it with a special on their website.

As for features, a lot of programmable coffee makers make it too complicated to brew a pot of coffee. One button for this and another button to set a brew time and 2 buttons for hour and minute. Very simple and no need for 12 buttons on a coffee pot. Plus the pot stops brewing for a little while if you want to pour coffee before all of it is brewed. Great feature. I will admit it is sometimes difficult to pour water into the resevoir whithout spilling, but I have become an expert!

I got this coffeemaker for $14.95 from the Gevalia website with a stainless steel scoop and pound of coffee included. Not sure why anyone would pay $100+ dollars for it when they offer it on their site for next to nothing. That aside this is a great coffeemaker. It has pause and serve feature, so you don''t have to wait for it to finish brewing a full pot to pour a cup of coffee. The stainless steel look is perfect for kitchens with or without stainless appliances. All the functions work perfectly and the coffee they offer is GREAT coffee!

Pentek 150233 Save 32% Off

Pentek 150233, Big Blue, 1'' In/Out, #20 Blue/Black, HFPP, w/ PR
  • Large filter housing for high-flow and heavy sediment applications
  • Reinforced polypropylene sump for strength and chemical resistance
  • Use with a 20" x 4-1/2" filter cartridge (sold separately)
  • Pressure relief button for easier cartridge replacement
  • Initial pressure drop of 1 psi at a flow rate of 15 gpm

These are the standard by which all others are measured. I live on a small farm with 3 low flow wells and they all have their problems. Currently I''m doing a 2 step process bringing water into a cistern and then into the house from there. I''ve had a big blue before the cistern and then one between there and the house for several years now. Good flow, great pressure, never a problem, never a leak. I couldn''t ask for more. I''m now setting up a second cistern for irrigation water and just ordered two more and noticed these are hardly reviewed. It''s a shame as these are a great product.

Buy Pentek 150233 Now

I know the dimensions are given, but the size of this thing is surprising when seen in person. I had a water softener and charcoal filter installed but felt I needed a prefilter to prevent premature failure of the media in those two filters. I wanted something that would take a large filter so that I wouldn''t have to change it as often and also maximize flow and this thing fits the bill. The life expectancy of the sump is 10 years so I should get plenty of life out of it.

My only complaint is that while directions aren''t necessary, the product doesn''t come with screw to mount it to a bracket, nor does it indicate the proper size. I had to do some research to find the right sizes needed. Those turned out to be 5/16" x 1 1/4" lag bolts for anyone looking at one of these.

Installed this Pentek 20" filter housing along with the Pentek filter cartridge DGD-5005-20 (which filters down to the 5 micron level). Before doing this our well water from the faucet was so cloudy you couldn''t see thru an 8 oz. glass of water. After installing it a 1 gallon jug filled from the faucet is absolutely crystal clear. No more discoloration in the shower, tub, sink, laundry, etc. It works amazingly well. I am no plumber but I figured out how to install it myself using about $20 of parts from Lowes (plastic pipe and couplings, pipe cement/solvent, a shut-off valve, and two 1" to 3/4" adapters). If you have cloudy water from sediment and iron, this unit (with the above filter cartridge) takes care of the problem completely.

I bought this in conjunction with a g.a.c. to filter the sulfer out of my water. It was pretty easy to install. The threaded connection required 8 wraps of teflon tape and to be tightened all the way in order not to leak. Use 5/16 hex screws to fasten. After install there was no more sulfer smell.
