Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter Save 30% Off

Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter with Ceramic Ultracarb FilterI bought the Doulton Countertop Water Filter a couple months ago and I''m sorry I did. I can''t drink the water from it given the ceramic filter continually discharges something into the water that is gritty. My mouth is coated with a film of grit after drinking the water. The ceramic filters, when new, are coated with some type of powder which looks like residue from the manufacturing process and it appears this is what ends up in the drinking water. The directions require a new filter to have water run thought it for 10 min followed by a 24 hour rest period and then another 10mins of water but after doing that and running lots of additional water through the filter before I fill up a glass it still is gritty. I''m on my 2nd cartridge. The first had the same problem but got better but returned to being unduly gritty as I used it more. All in all a grossly unsatisfactory experience.

I''m kind of shocked by the bad reviews on this, especially since the reviews on the Doulton filter that goes INSIDE this unit are glowing.

Check them out at:

http://www.amazon.com/Doulton-Ultracarb-Ceramic-Replacement-Candle/dp/B000NZRFYQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1357519555&sr=1-2&keywords=doulton+filter

I''ve had this for ten years, changed the filter twice, and am about to again.

I''ve never bothered with cleaning the filter since it lasts so long between filters for me.

Not only has it always tasted great but if I try to give people tap water and mention I also have filtered available, they ALWAYS much prefer the taste of the Doulton filtered version. So it''s not just me that notices the difference.

And the Doulton isn''t just made to only improve the taste, like so many of the other cheaper filters are, it''s for filtering nasty stuff like lead and chemicals which the others leave in.

A great product with zero problems after over ten years of constant use.

Does it get better than that?

Buy Doulton HCPS Countertop Water Filter Now

I bought this in February of 2010 (for more than the current $134 list). I live in Los Angeles, where the water is terrible. I am stunned at what a poor purchase this was! I did a lot of research, yet the taste of the water is TERRIBLE. A simple Brita pitcher tastes exponentially better. Doulton should be ashamed!

I had called Doulton after I purchased the product, and they wouldn''t do anything about it since I didn''t buy directly through them. In addition to terrible water taste, the filter has quite a long stream of water after you shut off the tap. After over a year without using the filter, and at a new house, I actually did buy a replacement cartridge this month. Since I had already made the investment in the system, I figured I would put it on bathroom tap at the very least -which is where it''s going to go. I recently called again, to see if I could get some advice or assistance, and once again the rep was surprised not only that the water tasted terrible, but that it streamed that much water after shut off.

So: defective filter that the company won''t stand by, or just a sub-par filter for dirty Los Angeles water? I''m sorry I gave this another try. Truly very disappointing and aggravating and a waste of money.

By the way, the dog won''t drink the water either. The dog drinks all sorts of water piles in all sorts of dirty places.

Save yourself the trouble. I''m going to try another countertop system -with a warranty -and hope that works. Unimpressed with Doulton all around. (I purchased a very inexpensive Vitamin C shower filter on Amazon and that company promptly honored their product when I needed a replacement part...) I''m trying something off EWG''s recommended lists:

Good luck.

I have had this Doulton Countertop Water Filter with Ceramic Ultracarb Filter since 1995, which I bought for $135! No price inflation here! Very sturdy and efficient system. The filter does its job for one person for about 6-12 months, depending on usage. There''s a built-in (inadvertent?)safety feature that prevents using the filter when it''s no longer functional: the water flow weakens, then eventually stops. If this happens, one unscrews the canister, and cleans the filter candle with a brush, or after 2 or 3 cleanings, replaces the filter. The goop that gums up the works is what I would have been drinking without the filter! Yuck! Nothing is more compelling for water purification than a used-up filter! Don''t live at home without it! Highly recommended, and very reasonably priced.

Cucina Romana 10-Cup Programable Coffeemaker Save 50% Off

Cucina Romana 10-Cup Programable Coffeemaker with Built-In Coffee GrinderJust recieived this machine as a gift from my wife. She bought it on trip to Chicago. Tried it out this morning and forgot turn the timer on. After the grinder turned off in 2 seconds (pre-ground coffee) I did not here it brewing but it did brew the coffee. The only thing I find negative about it is there is no backlight for the LED display. It is the quietest machine I have ever owned. If you follow the owners manual there should be no problems. I like it! It operated as the manual claims.

I have owned quite a number of grind-and-brew coffeemakers over the last 30 years, but this one stands out as memorable ... for the astounding array of bad design decisions incorporated into one product.

I bought this as a change after a few rounds of bad luck: A high-end grind-and-brew coffeemaker that died on day 363 of its year warranty (but is no longer manufactured or repaired),Saeco 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe and Burr Grinder, Stainless Steel

followed by a mid-range grind-and-brew from a top manufacturer which died (stopped dripping, though the grinder still worked) after a mere six weeks of use. [Amazon was kind enough to help me get an exchange on the second coffeemaker so that I wouldn''t have to spend the agonizing 6 weeks that the manufacturer reportedly takes to service that model.] Krups KM7000 10-Cup Grind and Brew Coffee Maker with Conical Burr Grinder, Black and Stainless Steel Accents

So I thought I''d go in a new direction, and instead of buying a grind-and-brew coffeemaker with a burr grinder, I returned to the blade grinder and what I hoped would be a more durable design, much like the coffeemakers I had 20 years ago. This Cucina Romana coffeemaker uses the same basic grinder cup and lid, filter basket and holder, and charcoal filter, as several other blade-grind-and-brew coffeemakers; the design reminds me of the now-defunct Melitta product.

Unfortunately, this coffeemaker has so many flaws that I find it simply annoying to use. Yes, it makes a pretty decent cup of coffee. But imagine how much I''d like it if some better decisions had been made before it was ever sent to manufacture:

In order to fill the coffeemaker with water, you open a lid that requires an astonishing 23 inches -yes, almost two full feet -of clearance JUST TO OPEN THE LID. Forget about putting this under any cabinets; you won''t be able to open it at all, because the lid you open is the full size from front-to-back, thus contributing to this already-tall coffeemaker requiring use only on an open counter. In fact, I''d hate to be any shorter than I am and try to fill this, you have to hold the carafe so high that my arm hurts doing it.

The top lid is designed to require pushing back on a plastic catch to open it. This plastic catch is made shallow and of very slick plastic, so it''s hard to get hold of and one''s thumb tends to slip right off it, leaving the lid to crash down. In addition, you have to use the other hand to hold on to the coffeemaker body, or you''ll never get the lid open, rather only succeed in pushing the entire coffeemaker back or tipping it over.

The LED panel is very dark and small, very difficult to read, as it''s completely unilluminated.

The clock does not flash 12:00 when the coffeemaker is first plugged in as the instructions say; rather, it displays 12:00 steady, and doesn''t seem to have any clear process for re-setting the time. After repeatedly pushing and holding various buttons to try to re-set the time, I finally hit on something that worked; however, the next time, I still had to go through pushing various buttons on & off to try to find what it would take to reset the time. It''s not clear why there isn''t a simple sequence of buttons for resetting the time, and instructions for doing so.

If you want to grind the beans when you brew coffee, you have to remember to push back an extra latch that isn''t present with other such coffeemakers, just one more obscure step in the process. If you forget to push this back, the coffee grinds in the cup and doesn''t exit into the basket, so you''ll just get hot water.

ALL the parts have to be in this coffeemaker for it to be turned on. So if you want to make coffee with pre-ground beans, you still have to have the grinding cup in place. If you want to keep coffee hot on the burner, you have to keep the grinding cup in place. The problem with this is that you *must* clean out the grinding cup completely between every use, because otherwise by the third use, it will be so caked up with grinds that nothing will reach the filter basket.

So to clean this out, I either have to remove the parts right before use and both clean and dry every part, or I have to hope I remember to clean and leave to dry all the parts in the short time that I don''t have coffee on during the day (or try to remember to do it before I fall asleep at night.)

It seems completely unnecessary to require the grinding cup in place just to have the burner on, especially because the cleaning after every use is absolutely necessary.

The grinding cup simply becomes thoroughly caked up with fine grounds after each and every use, both wasting coffee and making for a nasty cleaning job. You can''t just rinse it, either; the coffee gets hard-caked in spots, especially the exit chute, after each use, and will only come off with significant pressure or scraping.

The small triangular plastic protrusions that hold the lid onto the carafe are exceedingly flimsy; one of them broke after two days of use, when I simply flipped the lid up slightly to pour. This is a shame, as this carafe lid is one of the few I''ve seen (with grind-and-brew machines) that doesn''t drip all over the counter when pouring, due to a design that lets you flip the lid up slightly when pouring. In fact, if this part of the carafe hadn''t been designed so flimsily as to break this way, I would''ve at least conceded that the carafe design on this coffeemaker was better than on most of the competing products ... most of which drip coffee during every pour.

In summary, this could''ve been a great alternative grind-and-brew system, perhaps if the designer had thought a little bit about how it would actually be used. Most of the serious annoyances are in places where a decision was made towards lesser usability, when a small change would have made it so much easier on the actual user. For example, instead of using a shallow-lipped slick plastic catch on the lid, just something easier to grab would have avoided an obvious problem. Splitting the lid would have helped keep the height requirement down, perhaps enabling use under kitchen cabinets. And I suspect it wouldn''t take much re-programming to change the issue of letting the burner stay on when removing the grinder parts (for cleaning).

But instead, it is what it is. I can only hope that it, too, breaks in less than a year, so I can justify getting another brand and model. I think it''s probably time that I went back to the grind-and-brew product that costs twice as much but is so easy to use and has all the features I''d ever want. Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder With so few grind-and-brew products left on the market these days, it''s worth the investment just to avoid the multiple daily annoyances of using the Cucina Romana.

We received this as a Christmas gift this year. Happy as can be, I tear through the box and start working on getting it plugged in and ready to go! I have to say that after 5 uses now, I am stunned by how horrible this machine works. It amazes me it''s even on the market. I wouldn''t even give it 1 star, but because it works about a quarter of the time I am willing to give it at least that.

Do not waste your money.

Bosch Axxis Series : WTE86300US 24 Condenser Electric Tumble Dryer
  • Ventless Drying Required No Ducting
  • Large Capacity on Compact Footprint
  • 11 Drying Cycles and 4 Drying Options
  • LED Display with Remaining Time
  • Long-lasting One Piece Stainless Steel Structured Drum

We live in a brownstone in New York City with no ventilation in our cellar for a conventional dryer. We''ve had the Bosch for 2 years. Bosch makes one of the few condensation dryers with the capacity to dry large loads. It takes about 45-60 minutes to dry a standard load of shirts and socks. Large bedspreads take about twice as long. It''s a lot slower the conventional dryers, but it does the job. It is easier on fabrics because it simply pulls moisture from the chamber instead of blasting clothes with hot air. My clothes seem to hold color better. It''s expensive, but fine if you don''t mind the wait.

The outlet for this dryer is not conventional. It''s not a big deal (inexpensive) to get an electrician out to switch it, but that will be a small added cost.

Like I''ve seen on many blogs (which I should have listened to), the Bosch Axxis dryer is eccentric/temperamental and doesn''t work half the time (and it''s very expensive to begin with, but that''s where your costs start). It''s washer companion is just fine, but between a host of different elements on the dryer, maintaining it is difficult at best, the sensor is extremely temperamental, and Bosch''s service is criminal. Bosch has a curious "blame the customer" attitude, uses a 5th rate corrupt repair guy in the NYC area -and don''t seem to care (repairs cost $99 for the visit + $120/hour for labor). It looks good on top of their serviceable washer, and that''s about it -buyer beware!

The Good: These are great units for a second floor closet without a vent. If you have a vent, there are better and much cheaper alternatives!

The Bad: High Cost, Long Drying Cycles and (in my case) Poor Quality and Service.

You are paying a lot of money for the Bosch name and I don''t think the quality supports the price. When the dryer needs repair, you will find out that it is cheaper to replace than repair.

Life is too short.

We inherited a new Bosch HE washer/condenser dryer set with our house. We were so excited! Don''t have to go buy new appliances! But now I know why they left them here.

The dryer condenser is not well designed. It is flat, so the condensate doesn''t drain well. Then it becomes full of water, then it stops condensing, then the clothes don''t get dry. I literally take this out between every load to clean out the condensed water, and I still have to air dry it completely every 3-4 loads or it just won''t work. Plus, lint gets in the metal condenser and it''s almost impossible to clean out. I''ve tried pipe cleaners and towels and chopsticks.... it''s about a food long and has closely spaced plates of metal ridges for surface area for condensing. The thing is, the lint travels through on the air and gets stuck on the metal ridges. Then because it is so long and the plates are so close together, it''s almost impossible to clean. It should be snap-together or something so you can open it up to get the lint out. But it''s not. My best solution so far is to take used dryer sheets and run them through with chopsticks. It takes at least half an hour to get most of the lint out, and it''s tedious and unnecessary.

The front vent is difficult to open to clean as well. Also, because it''s not designed to vent to a duct to go outside, the water condenses in your laundry area (for us, a closet with doors).

All-around poor design. Full of frustration. I got a set of HE stackable washer/dryer from Sears, the Kenmore brand. Better warranty and works great. More features, same size. Also, since I got it on sale, cheaper. Go to a brick and mortar store and save yourself some grief.

I just moved into a new apartment that came equipt with this dryer. It is so bad that I felt compelled to write a review. It does not do the one thing a dryer is suppose to do which is dry clothes! I have only used it for two weeks and it takes me three times longer to do my laundry than my old dryer. I am afraid to see what my electric bill is going to be. The sensors are suppose to be able to tell when my clothes are dry but it always shuts off when they are still very damp. I start the cycle again and it shuts itself off because it insists that the clothes are dry! I put a load in and let it run naively thinking that it would actually dry the clothes. I forgot about it, as I often do being a busy mother, and when I went to get the clothes the next morning they smelled because the dryer stopped while the clothes were still wet! I had to wash the clothes all over, which is a huge suck of time, money and energy! There is a timer setting, which is all use now, but you can''t control the temperature when using the timer. I almost wish I had bought this dryer myself so that I could return it. Alas, I am stuck with it unless I can convince my landlord to replace it. Since I pay the electric bill I am guessing he is not going to be too bothered. If you would like a dryer that actually dries clothes do not buy this. If you prefer your clothes damp and smelly then this is the one for you.

PUR 5 Cup Water Filter Pitcher CR-4000 Save 17% Off

PUR 5 Cup Water Filter Pitcher CR-4000The PUR CR-4000 5 Cup Pitcher with One Pitcher Filter is only slightly smaller than the PUR CR-6000 7-Cup Water Filtration Pitcheror PUR CR-6000C 2-Stage Oval Water Pitcher with LED Indicator. But it is a much more affordable option. What you give up is the stability and usefulness of the other models. While the top half of the units, and the filters, are about the same, the base of this model is shorter and has a more narrow base. That means while I can fill my other pitcher standing in the sink, this pitcher tips over because the base is too narrow to be stable on any surface that''s not completely flat.

PROS:

++ Good value with the same 2-stage filter as larger models

++ 5 cup capacity is perfect for filling at once (larger models require you to wait for water to filter, then fill again)

++ Reasonable water quality and taste improvement (though some filters are better)

++ Pitcher size is compact enough to fit in small spaces

CONS:

-Overly narrow base makes it easy to tip the unit over (can''t stand on its own in the sink)

-Cannot pour while filtering (the top leaks more than the tops on larger models)

-No spout cover to protect filtered water from refrigerator odors

-No light indicator for filter changes

-Larger capacity models are not much wider or taller

CONCLUSION

As long as you carefully fill this unit and only place it on flat surfaces, it''s a decent value. But considering the parts are all similar, I wish the larger capacities were sold at a similar value. This is good but if you don''t need the compact size it''s worth paying for the larger models.

It''s very compact and basic, but does the job. No complaints here so far. Great size for one or two people to share. It easily fills two glasses with water before needing refilled. The filter it uses seems very high quality. And, perhaps most importantly, according to the research I did, it looks like this pitcher is entirely BPA-free.

Actually this model shares the same parts of the lid and blue water tank with 7cup model. So it''s like this model is just a little bit shorter by about 2cm. I saw local store is selling 7 cup with LED for less $15. I bought 5 cup model for space saving but actually it didn''t matter.

The other thing is no spout cover. Although not hard to put on foil to cover, it doesn''t look nice. After getting rid of chlorine or something, the water becomes vulnerable against bacteria. So I think this kind of pitcher should have a cover. It seems old Pur models had it though.

PUR CR-6000 7-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher Save 14% Off

PUR CR-6000 7-Cup Water Filtration PitcherI cannot understand some of the complaints that I''ve seen in reviews of this pitcher. I''ve owned one for 2 years, and just bought a 2nd, and I''ve got nothing but good things to say about them. The filter works well and makes my normally chlorine smelling water as tasty as the best bottled water. I drink a LOT of water (120+ ounces a day) and my PUR pitcher has paid for itself many, many times over in its lifetime. I don''t think the lid is troublesome at all as some reviewers have said, nor do I think that the shape is strange; to me it is perfect because it fits nicely along side a gallon of milk on the side rack of my refrigerator. The plastic is heavy duty enough to absorb some abuse, and the filters are very easy to exchange. All that is required is a quarter twist and they pop right out. I''d recommend washing the pitcher semi-frequently to keep it nice and clean, but other than that, it is about as low maintenance as you could ask for.

Great tasting water, solid design, relatively inexpensive filters, and 2 years of flawless use mean I can only give this product 5 stars. Don''t hesitate, this is a fantastic water filter/pitcher.

I couldn''t decide between the Brita Slim Pitcher and the Pur Oval, so bought one of each. And that''s not as frivolous as it sounds, because I wanted two anyway so there would always be a cold one ready in the fridge. Both of them seem to filter the water just fine. The Brita top stays on better, but the handle has sharper edges and is less comfortable to hold, especially when it''s full. Although I''ve noticed the little black specks that others have objected to, in our case they stay in the top section and never end up in the glass, so they don''t bother us. The Pur has a nicer, rounded handle, but if you''re not careful the top has a tendency to fall off, dumping water all over the shelf. No worries, though, because if you just make sure to use two hands and hold the top securely, which is very easy to do, it stays where it belongs and all is well. So, bottom line, I would give maybe a slight edge to the Pur, but either one delivers good-tasting water with a minimum of fuss.

I bought this January 12, 2008 at a local Publix. I was about to buy another Deerpark Filtered Water Gallon and decided to go with this (I can''t use the faucet attachment) I am impressed. It makes Atlanta water taste like Dasani, oh wait, Dasani is Atlanta water...but it tastes great! Much better than from the tap.

I''ve read the slow filter comments and PUR must have changed because I don''t notice the slow filling. We''re a family of three and the 7cup is perfect. I have the habit of filling the pitcher top with each glass of water. I mean I would be getting it from the tap otherwise right? No big deal. The pitcher has filtered the water by the time I need a fresh glass.BUY THIS PRODUCT.

I''ve been using this pitcher for about a month, after about 10 years of Brita use. I was surprised there weren''t more direct comparisons here, so I''ll make them.

First off, there are simply no black carbon flakes released anywhere in this pitcher. While this used to be a minor annoyance with Brita, it became much worse recently, with a huge number of flakes in the top and a significant amount of smaller black particles in the bottom. This could be seen as a black residue left behind after water evaporated from a cup. I was spilling about 1/4 of my water down the drain just to get rid of the carbon.

Second, the pitcher is just as easy to use. Yes, you have to take the lid off to fill it, whereas some Brita pitchers have a flip-open top, but it''s a minor issue, and the lid seems sufficiently secure and should stay on in normal use. The pitcher also seems well built. I''m not sure what is leading to other users cracking their pitchers, but I don''t see that happening with mine.

Third, the water does filter much more slowly than Brita. Sure, that''s a minor annoyance, but the water is coming out much cleaner. I''ll take it. Non-issue.

Fourth, the water actually tastes better. I can''t quite put it in words, but it''s almost as if the water is sweeter. It''s probably because additional chemical taste has been removed. Whatever the process, I can attest to the fact that the water tastes very, very good. On some days, Washington, DC water can smell very strongly of chlorine. This filter takes that smell out. Brita did not.

Fifth, it''s priced competitively with Brita. The pitcher is slightly smaller than the more expensive Brita and slightly bigger than the cheapest Brita, so it''s priced fairly, right in between the two Brita options in terms of volume. The filters are also around the same price. Even if they were $1-2 more, it would most definitely be worth it.

I already convinced my mom to convert to Pur. She''s very happy and doesn''t know how she put up with Brita''s carbon flakes for so long.

Want PUR CR-6000 7-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher Discount?

I have not had any problems with any of the Pur products I''ve used. I have had 2 pitchers and a faucet mount system. The pitchers work great and the faucet mount has only leaked when I did not have it on tight enough. If you are not strong enough to tighten the coupling or the filter cap then I could see this problem happening.

If your filter clogs up in 10 days your water is probably full of silt or other contaminates that clog it quickly. Which means it is doing it''s job perfectly. If that''s the case, it''s not the filters fault. You can''t see fluoride, you can''t see lead and you can''t arsenic. So the people that say there water is clean and the filter clogs, how do they know it''s clean unless they have a lab test it.

Brita''s don''t clog because they only use charcoal filters. Charcoal filters only make the water taste better and don''t really make the water much cleaner. So, if you just want the water to taste better and want the filters to be cheap then buy the Brita. If you want your water to taste like Evian and to be 99% free of pharmaceuticals and other contaminates then buy the Pur. If you fill the bottom, you can then fill the top and it will hold much more water. Many people are only filling the top and then complain about it not holding a lot of water. I get 3 or 4 large glasses out of mine when I fill it up like that.

It filters slower than the faucet mount because it uses gravity since it is not the faucet mount that is connected to pressurized tap water.

A good filter is not going to filter the water quickly like a charcoal filter does. The more filtration the more steps and stages the water goes through. TAKES LONGER...........

If you freeze your water pitcher in the fridge and then complain that it cracked, it is your fault not PUR''s. If you didn''t then, well I don''t what to say other than mine is over a year old and no problems. The filters are more expensive than Brita because "again" they are only charcoal filters which are cheap and not very effective at taking out actual contaminates and the big one "Pharmaceuticals".

I''m sure sometimes there might be a bad filter or pitcher, but from what people have said Pur replaced or compensated them so I''m not sure why they are so bitter towards the company. For you people that are over reacting or unable to use common sense on how something works, go buy a Brita. If I get a Pur and it cracks, I will go and exchange it for another Pur. If my filter clog when they have not before then I will exchange it for another one.

You pay more for the filters but you get awesome water from them. People always ask me if it is bottled water when I get them a glass.

Ciao.

I''d tried vinegar to clean my zojirushi 3 qt device. It didn''t work too well.

But this stuff is great!! It only takes about 20 minutes and all that nasty junk on the bottom of the water tank comes off. (I did have to rinse the inside of the device once to get the stuff that had come off the sides, but didn''t dissolve enough to go out through the dispenser.)

Make sure you order enough for the size of your dispenser. 3 qts needs 3 packets.

Update 7/16/08 -I think the quantity of cleaner you need also depends on your water quality. For some people, one envelope will work. I tried one the first time I tried to clean the machine. It worked some, but wasn''t enough to finish the job. I need three -we have extremely hard water. $6 every 6 months is worth the time I''d spend chiselling the interior out.

I would recommend it to everyone who uses the hot water dispenser. It''s very easy to use. Even if you don''t see any scald build up, give it a try and you will not believe what is there. You will need one package per one liter size of pot. I only has the stubborn scald at the bottom of the pot so I figure I can put one liter of water just to cover the problem area and only use one package of powder. After the cleansing process is done, the bottom of the pot is cleaned just like the first day I got them. I then spot the ring where the water level was and realized how dirty the rest of the pot actually is. Invisible scald, I would call them. Anyway, I ended up using the rest of cleansing powder for the second cleansing batch. I''m using the pot to boil water for the baby formular. It''s important that it''s kept clean. This product delivers the result I hope for.

worked on my zojirushi hot water dispenser like a charm. After about one year of use, my zojirushi electric water dispenser was covered by hard calcified deposits. I tried to scrub it off, but it was so calcified nothing would come off. Then I got these, and I couldn''t be happier with how easy and effective this product is, all it took was 15 minutes, and it disolved the deposits without harming my electric pot.

I''ve had my Zojirushi hot water pot for many years. I''ve rinsed and tried to clean it periodically but over time the hard water residue and scaling really built up to a disgusting level.

My boyfriend got these powdered packs for me to try, I was a bit skeptical that they could do too much. But I followed the instructions written on the package and was amazed when my hot water pot came out clean as can be! It looks practically new again on the inside and I couldn''t be happier. I highly recommend this product for anyone who owns a hot water pot and I will be ordering more for the next time I need to clean mine again.

I''ve run this coffee maker without a filter and it makes a WORLD of difference with one. Definitely worth the money.

Kind of funny, but I hadn''t realized my coffeemaker had a water filter until I followed the directions for cleaning and descaling. When I took it out, the original filter that came with the coffeemaker was discolored and grey, so I knew it should be changed.

After finding the part number, searching the Internet provided a link to Amazon. This was exactly the part I needed, with KitchenAid packaging (not a "replacement" part), and this price was the best I found.

This filter is actually optional, but, according to the coffeemaker directions the "advanced ion-exchange water filter reduces chlorine and other contaminants which impair coffee flavor." It also "softens the water, which extends the time between descalings."

According to the directions, this filter lasts for approximately 25 gallons of water. To make the best coffee, and at this price, I recommend the filter.

Saeco Easy Fill 12-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker Save 24% Off

Saeco Easy Fill 12-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker, Stainless SteelI had tried three different machines before purchasing this one, and I am completely satisfied with it. The equivalent Cuisinart machine, which has excellent ratings on Amazon and elsewhere was a huge disappointment: the place where you fill the water is this tiny area on the back right of the machine when you lift off the cover...getting the water in there at 5AM when I am half asleep was NOT easy. That is why that machine went back to the store. Then I tried the Krups, and thought is was a little better, i.e. the space to get water in was somewhat larger, it was still not ideal, and after a couple of days the indicater for how much water is in the tank seemed to have air bubbles in it so the reading was completely inaccurate. I tried to refill a number of times and put unit upside down...but could not fixt the bubble problem, so that one went back to the store. Then I tried the Kitchenaid coffee maker with the romovable water tank...great idea and super easy, BUT, this coffee machine had a basket filter area and not cone, and I almost overflowed the filter area making only 7 cups of coffee (because we like our coffee strong). There is NO WAY I could have made the full 12 cups with that machine. The Saeco has removable tank and cone filter and is super-easy to use, very quiet, it''s a front loader so you don''t have to pull out the machine every time you make coffee...I am extremely satisfied with its design and performance...I have had it for a month now and thought I would write a review because it only had one!! I highly recommend this coffee maker!!

Bought Saeco Easy Fill coffeemaker to replace another brand w/ same features (don''t have to move coffeemaker from under cabinets) that quit working after 5 months. Waited a couple weeks for it to be released pretty happy so far. Just made my 2nd cup w/ the Saeco: machine has been on for an hour and coffee is HOT. Directions in manual aren''t very clear, but it was fairly easy to figure everything out. Push a button on the front and the water/coffee "hopper" pulls out of machine. Fill w/ water, set on counter and fill w/ coffee, put back in machine & hit "start". Comes w/ permanent filter, but I''ve never liked those: even the manual says you''ll end up w/ grounds in the carafe. I didn''t realize it took "cone" filters, and I have about 200 "basket" style left: I just lifted out the permanent filter, put a basket filter under it, re-inserted permanent one, and filled w/ coffee. Machine is really quiet too, no gurgling and sighing! This is the first pot of coffee I''ve brewed, so brand reliability is still in question (never heard of Saeco before), but I''m pleased so far. Can''t believe more companies aren''t designing coffeemakers that can stay put under the cabinet!!

UPDATE: Have now had Saeco coffeemaker for a couple of months. Still very pleased. LOVE that it beeps when coffee''s done brewing (for those times I get busy and forget I started it), and beeps again when it shuts off (so I can get one last cup while it''s still hot and it''s still hot after 2 hours!). So far the ONLY thing I don''t like is when I pull the hopper out to empty the grounds there are drops of water on it that inevitably roll onto the floor/counter. Not a huge deal if you''re careful, and it''s only a few drops. Could easily be solved if they changed the design to slope the top of it slightly towards the center. That is honestly the ONLY thing I don''t like about this machine. Very satisfied, definitely recommend it! Thank you Saeco!!!

UPDATE Feb, 2013: This coffeemaker is still going strong after almost 2.5 years!! Still makes great coffee. Other reviewers had made comments about the machine starting to beep without warning, and that has happened to me maybe 4 times since I bought it. I simply unplug it, plug it back in, and the beeping stops. I started using the cone filters to avoid the coffee grounds in my coffee works really well. Very glad I bought this, it''s lasted a LONG time :)

We have had item for only 3 months. First problem was the spring loaded basket broke and needed to be replaced. Intermitantly the electronics go haywire and the unit has to be unplugged to reset. The carafe has beenl leaking around the rim and is now being replaced. On the plus side Saeco customer service has been very responsive and quickly replaced coffee basket and is now replacing the carafe.

A great coffee maker with clock, timer, and auto shut off. The novel concept behind this coffee maker is that the water holding tank is included in the basket system for the coffee. It allows you to fill the coffee maker with up to 12 cups worth of water without having to pull the maker out from under your cabinets, the way you do with traditional top loading coffee makers.

The coffee maker holds 12 cups of water. There is a gold cone basket included. This way you do not have to buy any additional paper coffee filters, ever.

The unit has a clock with a timer. You can set and wake up to fresh hot coffee. After an hour, the unit shuts off so you won''t have to worry about going back home to turn off your coffee maker.

It also has a burner temperature adjustment so you can control how hot the burner is, keeping your coffee either luke warm, or very hot.

The unit brews the coffee at the right temperature for coffee, and freshly brewed coffee is piping hot.

It also has a pause and serve feature that allows you to remove the glass carafe part way though brewing to steal a cup of coffee.

Our first coffee pot... did have the clock issues... the EEEE error message.. and it did go off in the middle of the night... but Amazon is great on returns.. it was super easy to do.... no problems there.... sent out the new pot right away.... and the old one was picked up right away also.

The new pot we received.. has been excellent.. no issues with the clock... the pull out drawer, fills with water and has the coffee grounds in it... so no more pulling out the coffee pot from under the cabinets anymore ... (our previous pot was a saeco also) and is still running.. but we wanted the easy fill feature. and are really happy with it.

We are very happy with this coffee pot..

This a.m. 12/27.. woke up to the beeping again.. so.. I''m not sure if it''s gone defective on us again....

love the design of this pot... just wished the clock worked and would stay working.

12/31 woke up to beeping.. pot is going back... still want the design feature.. so going to try the one with the thermal carafe..... hoping clock will be diff.

shipped back the 2nd one...

tried the same model with thermal carafe..... leaks..... think that one is going back too....

Hoover S1120 Hand Held Wet/Dry Hand Vacuum Cleaner Save 2% Off

Hoover S1120 Hand Held Wet/Dry Hand Vacuum CleanerThis handvac did okay for me, which was to help me clean up cat litter and dust off our hardwood floor.

Its quite loud when use, but its probably make the same noise as other handvac. The exhaust is located on the side, which is nice so you don''t get hot air blow to ur face. The clear, plastic tip is also use as the collection cup for the debris, which can be un-clip and empty over the garbage. It also comes with a wall-mounted holder which can be put together with the charger, so each time you put away the vac it automatically charges the battery.

The thing I don''t like about the vac was the vac mouth only opened in the middle and not side-to-side, which means it only pick up things when its at the middle of the tip. So you really have to aim for them to get it off the floor. The power button must be pressed continously during use, also no indicator light to show you whether its charging or not.

7.2 volt is okay, but if I had to buy it again I''d definitely get a 14 volt for a more powerful suction.

This vacuum is the reason I am currently browsing Amazon in search of a great cordless vacuum!

I owned this for about a year when I started noticing that shortly after I turned it on, the power would gradually decrease until it was barely operating. The culprit was a dying battery.

I was informed, however, by my friendly vacuum dealer that the replacement battery for this vacuum costs nearly as much as the entire vacuum. So...my vacuum ended up in the recycling bin.

Besides the short battery life I experienced, I found this vacuum to have an especially irritating design: it has vents on the side of the motor box that blow air out. If you are trying to pick up pet hair from the floor, this can create a real challenge, if not an impossible task. I would have to sneak up on the hair most times to try to avoid the air flow blowing it away.

I''ve had a Hoover Wet-Dry hand held vac for years, but the new one is truly a little power house. Cleans up the worst messes in seconds, and takes to a good cleaning in the dishwasher (non power parts, of course) with no problem. I wouldn''t buy anything else.

This small vacuum gets used more than any bigger one I have ever owned. It hangs on the wall in my pantry and is used in every room in the house. It is used to clean everything from dirt at doorways to spilled coffee on the counter. It is the handiest gadget I own. We bought a second one for our camper to vacuum the floor when we are not connected to electricity. Handy dandy machine.!!!!

I am updating my review of this product now that I have owned it for about a month. All of the disappointments below have simply gotten worse. The only reason I was previously overall pleased by the product was the fact that it at least had some power. The main reason for purchasing this handvac is to pick up unwanted kitty litter when the cats make a mess. When I first purchased this handvac it did quite a good job at quickly picking up the litter, but now after only a month it barely picks up the litter. I actually have to "help" the vacuum by using my hand to push the litter in a pile, as it cannot get random pieces on its own. I am very displeased with my purchase at this time.

I bought this to replace my Black and Decker Dust Buster that after a little more than one year barely picks up anything and has almost no battery life remaining. Overall I am pleased with this new Hoover Wet/Dry Handvac. Despite reading all of the reviews, however, I was not aware until receiving the product that you must hold down the power button to operate the handvac, unlike other handvacs that you turn on and remain on until you shut them off. I am sure this will prove to save battery life (the reason Hoover claims to do it) but after just a short time using it your thumb does tend to cramp up. One other surprising aspect of the product is the actual sucking area. On other handvacs I have owned the entire "mouth" of the handvac sucks which allows you to use the side of the "mouth" to get along tight corners. This handvac, however, has a one-inch centralized sucking area, so you cannot really use it to get in those tight areas. I was also very surprised at how loud the unit is while using it. It makes a loud shrieking noise while it sucks that drives my animals crazy. Overall I would recommend this product to others, but I wish I would have known about these features before purchasing it.
