I''d venture to guess that anyone giving this product a 5-star review hasn''t owned it for very long. While it is beautiful to look at, and bamboo is one of Earth''s most renewable natural resources, this pail is a waste of money. It is composed of narrow strips of bamboo glued together, meaning there are plenty of seams just waiting to burst. For my pail, that took about two months of light use. Suddenly, one of the seams separated, and it''s extremely difficult to glue back together properly. Also, the plastic holding the charcoal filter against the bottom of the lid broke free after about two or three weeks, so every time I lift the lid, the filter falls out.

In this instance, bamboo is not the better choice. Do yourself a favor and buy stainless steel. What good is a renewable resource if it winds up in the landfill after minimal use?

Liked the way this looked and so I bought it but within a short time the bamboo around the inner container split apart, the bamboo bottom separated and the top, as other reviewers have stated, comes apart and doesn''t fit back together again.

In the end all that works is the inner plastic pail....worth a dollar not $41.94 with tax. Great concept very poor execution. I asked for a refund in less than a year and the company refused. Don''t buy this pail unless you want to end up with the inner plastic pail only.

Do not waste your money and time on this product, you might as well just throw forty bucks in the compost pile. I have come to the conclusion that this (albeit beautiful-looking, and perhaps well-intentioned) compost pot was actually constructed to self-destruct upon use. The bamboo glue is the main culprit, but also of note is the flimsy plastic "bucket" insert that actually holds the compost. As someone who generally likes to spend their money once and put in a little upkeep maintenance if necessary, I gave this product two months of faithful use: the bamboo top split after two weeks, a week later the thin plastic container cracked along the entire side, two weeks after that the bamboo side split, and finally this evening I lifted the pot up and lo and behold the pot went up but its bamboo base remained on the counter. I''m going for stainless steel this time.

Since ordering our compost pail, my husband & I find it to be nearly a game of how much we can recycle into our compost. Initially doubtful, my husband was afraid of the smell that a counterop keeper would entail. My Coach originally came equipped the EverPure ADC filtration system. I had to break my piggy bank to pay for the first one. Many places I travel have well water and one never knows if it has been contaminated.

Filter provides protection from Cysts such as Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica and Cryptosporidium parvum some which can survive Chlorination in fresh water holding tank. 0.5 micron carbon filter removes all Chlorine taste and odor and removes VOC contaminates. I bought a used motorhome that had the Everpure by Shurflo system already installed. That is why I bought the replacement filter. The filter seems to work just fine. It has improved the taste of the water from our water well. Amazon had the best delivered price I could find. It saved about 12 dollars over the local RV store. Personally I would not buy this system as it is way too expensive. You can buy a filter housing at Home Depot for about 20 dollars and replacement filters for 5 or 6 dollars each. We''ve been trying to replace our "other potables" intake with water for years by buying gallons and gallons of bottle water--what a pain and expensive too. And the plastic bottle that expensive bottled water comes in have BPAs! Now one of our pets has liver and kidney problems (partly from age but probably from ingesting stuff in the food and water). We did some research (Brita says nothing about BPA-free plastic so we skipped them although their filters are available everywhere). There was some other reports that listed water filtering pitchers that we could not find anywhere. Seychelle was listed as one of the best, it''s made right here in Calif. and we can get replacement filters right from the company (online yet). It''s working great, filters enough water fast enough to be able to replace the pets'' water bowl at least daily (more often if they drop stuff into it) and they seem to like the cleaner taste, hopefully they are drinking more water. Since we do go through water fast, I''m looking for big bottles that will fit in the refrigerator door (I prefer cold water but not with ice) but haven''t found anything yet (can''t be heavy, I have hand problems due to injuries from my younger days)--might eventually buy at least one more Seychelle pitcher and not use the filter in it so we can keep a pitcher in the frig. Lid doesn''t feel like it is securely on the pitcher but you just have to hold it in place as you pour--not a big deal as far as I''m concerned. Pitcher is BPA-free (yeahhhhh). Filter lasts around 6 mos. I should find out if the filter can be recycled. Water tastes great. I thought I''d read that it filters out chloramines, which our water has, but now can''t find that claim so I may be wrong. I''m pleased with this water filter even though it cost more than a Brita or Pur--but it does more and the filters last longer. Have to figure out a way to mark when a filter has been started so we can be sure to have a replacement filter ready to go when the old one slows down. We''d get the shower head filter too except we have a handheld branching off from the shower head which won''t work with the Seychelle shower head.

(July 31) So we''ve been using this water filtering pitcher for almost a month and it''s been great. The cat with kidney and liver problems has been drinking more water which is good. I''ve completely given up drinking soda because I prefer this water, only problem I have is I prefer refrigerator cold water which I can''t get at work (bought a thermos but keep running out of water during my work day)--not Seychelle''s problem. It''s only been 3 or 4 weeks but I just had to change the filter today--no water was flowing through at all. They claim a filter should last around 6 months but not so, and I know our tap water is fairly "clean" since the water dept does everything (including UV now) to make our water potable but it comes out the tap tasting of all that doing The new filter I just put in is leaving a lot of black charcoal bits in the pre-filtered water reservour but it doesn''t look like they''re passing through to the drinkable water. Also, as someone else pointed out, if all the water in the pre-filtered reservour hasn''t filtered through yet and you pour some water out, there is a real good chance the pre-filtered water is going to flow into the out spout and go into your glass (bottle, thermos, etc.) since there is nothing stopping the pre-filtered water and basic physics is going on. Would have been better if the lid snapped tightly into the filtering unit rather than it setting gently on the pitcher to prevent this from happening--kind of makes you wonder if their R&D Dept. is overpaid.

For the past several years I had used one of the old-school PUR water pitcher filters that makes water taste great, filters out nasty stuff, and lasts a LONG time (several months per filter). All for a mere $7 filter. Sadly, PUR vastly altered the composition of their filters, and the new ones now only last a few weeks at a time. I decided to give this Seychelle system a try, seeing as they (very very falsely) advertise that the filters last for up to six months. I was a bit apprehensive of the fact that the filter replacement cartridges cost $30 each, but I figured that if they really last for so long and give me good water, it''s worth it.

Six days, folks. I bought a pack of 8 filters on Seychelle''s webpage, and they''ve all given the same result (with the exception of the last one, which only lasted three days). With some water filters, even once you know it''s gone bad, you can keep using them for a while still, a sort of grace period for you to order new filters but not with these; after six days of use, the water they produce becomes so unbelievably putrid that even the smell of it will make you gag.

Now, some background, here. Before buying the filters, I found two separate water studies that ranked the top 100 largest U.S. cities based on their tap water quality. I figured the only real way to get six months out of these would be to put pre-purifed water in them. This is typical of advertising, so I never expected them to last half a year. I saw my city ranked right in the middle of both studies, So I figured I should get at least two months from each filter, considering I only filter one gallon per day through it. Given that Seychelle claims the filters can last up to 150 gallons, I figured I should get at least a third of that, maybe half at most (75-100 gallons). Nope, six measly gallons of water, and it cost me $30. That''s $5 per gallon. I could have bought purified water for $2.50 per gallon at the grocery store.

Now, proponents of Seychelle will read this and say, "But, if your filters only lasted for such a short time, then your water must just be THAT toxic! You should be happy that''s not going into your body!"

Well, my response to that is as follows: Seychelle claims it can remove 99.9% of all sorts of various materials from your water, but most other companies claim that their own filters remove about 99.6%. Is that 0.3% going to be the difference between life and death? Probably not, considering there are plenty of people pushing 100 years old who drink tap water every day. Considering the absolutely massive difference in price between these filters and standard Brita, PUR, etc., to me, it''s just simply not worth the extra cost. The one and ONLY reason you should ever ever consider purchasing this pitcher is if you know for a fact that your drinking water contains harmful bacteria. Seychelle''s sole valid use (assuming their claims are true) is that the filters supposedly remove all forms of bacteria from drinking water. Unless you''re drinking well water (from a really bad well), or bringing this pitcher on a camping trip, this shouldn''t even effect you anyway.

To top it all off, this pitcher has the worst design of any that I have used. This is the fifth pitcher design I''ve bought (also had two different PURs and two different Britas). The handle and pitcher aren''t one solid piece; rather, the back of the pitcher juts out a bit, and the handle is just sort of stuck into a hole. It''s very flimsy, and you''ll need to brace the pitcher with your other hand while you pour to avoid breaking the handle out of its hole. Also, unless the top reservoir is totally drained into the bottom, unfiltered water will constantly flow out the spout while you try to pour. There are several other pitcher designs that have this problem too, but I still hold it against them, as there are also several designs out there that have fixed this issue. Lastly, the pop-top that you open up to fill the pitcher is placed directly over the filter itself. The problem here is that if you blast your faucet onto the filter, it will force the toxins in the filter out into the water in the bottom reservoir, thus tainting it (you''ll be able to tell, the water will have that foul taste I mentioned above, only even before the filter has gone bad). To avoid this, you need to try to aim the water slightly to the side of the filter, and use low pressure. All that said, the dang filter still won''t last you very long, nor will the pitcher itself.

I apologize if all of this just sounds like an angry rant, but this is truly a poorly designed pitcher, and, considering the price of the filters, is appallingly overpriced. What really boils my blood the most is the six MONTH lifespan claim on the filters, which I will again repeat, only lasted me six DAYS. Even the new style crappy PURs and Britas last around a month, and are only a quarter of the cost.

I wanted good tasting water. Simple, yet not! We have used faucet mount filters (and pitchers) for 15 to 20 years. After 10 years of ''exploding'' faucet mounts (with expensive filters about one every 4 to 5 weeks) I was looking for alternatives. As a long-time user of Seychelle personal water-filtration bottles, Seychelle 28oz Flip Top Advanced Filter Water Purification / Filtration Bottle, I was very happy to find that Seychelle also makes this top-of-the-line water filter. We''d much rather replace a filter than drink what isn''t filtered out with lesser filters!

Seychelle products may cost more, but after using Seychelle products for well over a decade, we are convinced it''s worth it! Highly recommended!!!

When I received my Seychelle water pitcher, I wanted to try it on harsh conditions to see how well the filtration worked. I use water for cloths and baths from an underground spring and the water has turned brown. I took a cup of the brown water and poured it into the pitcher. After it had finish going through the filter, it was crystal clear. I was amazed. I will continue to use it even if we get running water from the city.

I believe this item has received unfairly low ratings from other purchasers. Perhaps these reviews are from purchasers who have never owned a humidifier before, or who didn''t bother to read the directions. I have owned three different humidifiers over the years, and this one has been overall the best.

I would agree the tank shape could stand some redesign. Like most humidifiers, you turn the tank upside down to refill, thus the top of the tank is best designed to conform to the shape of a tub or sink, so that it stays upright on its own while filling. This one does not do that, but it is still possible to prop it against the end of the tub to refill.

As for the other comments that have been made, of course it makes a gurgling noise. Water is dripping down into the base in order to be converted to steam. I have had the unfortunate experience of owning a humidifier that sounded like an 18-wheeler driving through my house--and believe me, this one is QUIET.

The only knocking noises I''ve heard were when the tank emptied while I was asleep and I didn''t shut it off, AND I hadn''t cleaned it in a very long time.

And of course the heating element is going to be hot right after you turn it off, and yes it could char a piece of wood if it came in contact with the heating element. The instructions CLEARLY STATE you must allow the heating element to cool before cleaning or refilling. I cannot imagine why someone would set something wet down on a wood table, or how the heating element came into contact with wood of one reviewer, as the heating element has a surrounding plastic framework that makes it difficult if not impossible to place anything directly against the heating element. Perhaps the user modified this plastic housing in some way.

Also, the tank cap has a mechanism that, together with the humidifier base, controls the amount of water that flows out of the tank. The only way this could malfunction and send water everywhere is if the cap was not screwed on properly (and just like a bottle of soda, if you don''t screw the cap on properly, the bottle will leak), or if it is not placed on the base securely.

I have not found the recommended cleaning to be an issue. But then, I use the recommendations as a guideline, not a requirement. How much you cleaning you have to do depends on the condition of your water and your performance expectations.

The recommended "daily" cleaning is basically to remove the base reservoir and dump out any water and accumulated sediment. I actually only do this about once a week, and I have very hard water (lots of clay sediment and calcium. I cannot drink tap water, its that bad.) The recommended "weekly" cleaning is to fill the base reservoir with vinegar and soak for 20 mins, and wipe down the heating element and surrounding housing to remove any calcium deposits. I actually only do this about every 3 months. Sometimes I actually have to chisel off the calcium from the heating element! And with all this obviously poor maintenance, I have noticed no diminished performance!

I''m not sure what the ''reboot'' requirement is, stated by one reviewer. The instructions clearly state that you should turn off the humidifier when you remove the tank for refilling, or when you are cleaning. This makes sense. Leaving it on without the heating element resting in a reservoir of water is like putting an empty pan on a hot stove burner. It will damage it. But turning it off for the few moments required for filling or cleaning is sufficient. No further effort is required. And I really don''t understand how one is personally offended by an inanimate object.

As for the size of tank, and how long it lasts, that all depends on the settings you use, and the size of your room. The 36-hour timeframe advertised by the manufacturer is at the unit''s lowest setting, as most manufacturers do. I keep mine set on low speed, with the humidity percentage at about 60%. This lasts 24 hrs. I definitely notice a humid feeling when walking into my bedroom where I keep the humidifer. My bedroom measures about 12'' x 18'', but I keep my bedroom door open always so the humidity isn''t just staying in my bedroom alone. The packaging states accurately that this humidifier is intended to serve a medium-sized room, not a whole house or very large rooms.

I really love the fact that this model does not require filters. I''ve had humidifiers that require filters, and of course you can never find the filter when you need one, and they are often very expensive. I''ve also had a humidifier that advertised no filter required, then upon reading the fine print inside the box, learned that while a humidifier was not REQUIRED, it really needed one to function properly.

I replaced my last humidifier with this one because the lat model I owned had no controls other than on/off, and pumped out so much mist it soaked everything around it, and was a cold mist model that did not keep the calcium deposits inside the reservoir--everything that got soaked by the mist ended up with calcium residue on it that was impossible to remove.

All in all, a very good model. The only thing I would like better is a domed-top model that could rest easily in the tub for refilling.

This product has gotten a LOT of negative reviews. I''m not sure why.

We bought this humidifier from a local store...the ONLY humidifier we could find in town. We needed a humidifier for our newborn, since he was getting some dry sinuses (poor little man!)

The model had obviously been returned, as it was repacked terribly and had no manual. No worry, though; the design is so simple that I figured out how to get water into it and get it working in about 3.5 minutes, even without the manual. It did drip a bit of water as I went to fill it, but is that REALLY a big deal? Maybe for some folks; not for us.

Anyway, as to the comment about "dead lifting" a gallon of water...a gallon of water weighs 8 pounds, which, let''s be honest, isn''t that much. I had to cringe when I read the "injured vet" comment; agreed, filling this tank would be very hard with one arm, but I imagine that a one armed person would buy a different model (say, one of the 30 others that Amazon offers). Could Holmes have made it better by making it top filling? Possibly, but in all honesty, this design works just fine.

Is it noisy? That depends on what you mean by "noisy". Let''s attack the question a different way: is it silent? No, it''s not. It makes (what my wife and I find to be) a nice gurgling sound, very similar to the humidifiers my mom used to use when I was little. However, I sleep better with a small amount of white noise, so those of you who are very light sleepers and/or need total silence might look at other models.

As to the comment about not producing enough moisture to get through the night...how much do you SLEEP? We fill the tank when we go to bed, and 8 hours later, it''s just about empty. That''s on the highest setting on both dials (max humidity and max fan), AND we live in a high desert area with hardly any ambient humidity to speak of. Just last night, we ran it on max fan and half humidity (our son''s sinuses are getting better) and the tank was still half full after 8 hours of sleep. I suppose if you sleep for more than 8 hours, or if you''re trying to humidify more than one room in the house, this might not be the one for you, but come on! It tells you right on the box that it''s good for A bedroom.

As far as the melting of the tanks I''ve read about...that''s terrible, but ours hasn''t done that.

I''ll give this humidifier 4 stars, not because it didn''t come with a manual, but because after calling them multiple times, Holmes still hasn''t sent me one (even though they''ve told me they will, and even given me other websites to check dedicated to replacement manuals which...surprise...don''t have the one for this model). Also, I agree that the "power down" "feature" IS stupid and, not having a manual, I thought I had broken this thing at first. However, one you know you have to do it, you just do it. it''s like turning off your PC: I bet we all thought it was silly to go to "start" and select "shut down" to turn them off...but we all do it now, don''t we?

Could it be better? Maybe, but I have no major complaints with it. You put water in, you turn it on, the room gets moist. Isn''t that what a humidifier''s supposed to do?

Just thought I''d post this, since it looks like the reviews are mostly one sided up to this point!

Thanks to my cold, dry apartment, I have chronic sinus infections. I bought this humidifier and it has been amazing the air is pleasantly un-dry and my nose is very happy! I definitely notice a positive difference now that I run this particular unit, and I can tell when it has been off all day (I only run it at night). :) It is easy to fill, easy to clean, and I kind of like the soft water sounds it makes as it ''percolates''. :) There was a lot of belly-aching about this product on other sites, but with proper use and care, it is a really worthwhile product.

I bought this humidifier a year ago. I like it because there are no filters to mess with. It''s easy to keep clean and sanitized. It takes just a few minutes to heat up and start steaming. It does make a little noise, but not enough to be bothersome at night, at least for me. Since using this humidifier, I''ve noticed my skin is not as dry in the winter and it has been really helping with my sinus infections. A year later and it still works great.

Bonavita 1.0L Electric Kettle BV3825B Save 17% Off

First of all, this is the ONLY pouring kettle I could find that is also an electric kettle, which is a great combination if you are in the market for both. The price ($50) seems fair as the competing pouring kettles cost about the same or more, all of which are non-electric.

The kettle seems to be well built and looks nice. I got this kettle for making coffee in a Hario v60 manual pour-over brewer, and it does the job well: the thin gooseneck spout lets you do a steady controlled pour. It''s not as big as the picture makes it look, I think it''s just the right size.

So at this point I can recommend this kettle. It remains to be seen how durable it is, I am going to update my review in a couple of months to reflect that aspect.

So, another point I would like to mention is that the bottom of the kettle is flat, the heating element is hidden, so it is quite easy to clean. Also, I have found that it is very convenient to use this kettle with a needle-type thermometer to control the temperature. This can be done by inserting the thermometer into one of the three vents at the top (the manual does not recommend that, but it works great for me).

So I''ve had it for more than a year now and continue to use daily as my do-it-all kettle, not just for coffee. It''s still going strong, haven''t had a single problem with it, it''s just great.

I really didn''t think that how you pour water into a coffee maker such as a Chemex, or other manual funnel method, would make a difference. Well, I was wrong. I had been using a tea kettle to both heat and pour water, but the pour-rate was hard to control. With the Bonavita, that is no longer the case.

Just this morning, I made a Chemex pot of some freshly roasted Guatemalan Finca la Providencia (Taraccino Coffee in Minneapolis... cool place to get some great coffee), and with the Bonavita, a steady stream of water was EASY to do. And the result was an incredible brewed coffee. Though the flavor profile has much to do with the brewing method, that brewing method is greatly affected by the pour. The Guat has never had the depth it did this morning. Amazing cup that really did surprise me. The body rivaled that of my vac-pot brewer. I''m a convert to this style of pouring spout. Really makes the slow-pour that much easier to do, and control.

Now for another important aspect of this kettle the actual heating of the water. Quick! 30 ounces of water took maybe four minutes. While there isn''t a whistle like on the tea kettle, boiling water makes a very recognizable sound. First it gets louder and louder, then quieter as it goes to a true boil. Then, the kettle''s heater automatically turns off. I listen, and have gotten quite good at knowing when to start my grinder so that it finishes right before the water is ready to pour.

Finally, the quality of the kettle is quite satisfactory. Nice materials and good build-quality. My guess is that I will be using this kettle for years to come.

The thing that sets this kettle apart from most electric kettles is the spout. The slim spout allows for accurate, steady pouring for tea, coffee, etc.

I wasn''t sure I''d like the handle, but it is actually designed really well for ergonomics. The weight of the water is balanced properly when holding the handle, so it''s functionally great. I still don''t like the look of the handle, and it is plastic as opposed to stainless steel. But they''re putting the money where it needs to go, so at the price, this kettle is great!

The kettle does heat up quickly (3-4 minutes) which compares well to other kettles. For manually brewing pourover coffee, this kettle is fantastic. If you''re a coffee shop doing manual pourovers, the size will be a limiting factor.

The lid fits securely (unlike its Hario competitor).

The base is simple with a cord wrap and about a 3 foot cord.

The metal is appropriately thick (it''s not heavy duty, but it is sturdy and solid).

The on/off switch has been accurately shutting off at the right temperature so far even at different water levels.

It has cleaned up nicely and has felt very safe to use. Has held up to regular use for a few months so far with no damage. Between the electric Hario (which is very nice) and this model, I''d take the Bonavita every day (except on the day when aesthetics means more than functionality) .

I was looking for an alternative to the Hario kettle, which is the gold standard, but you have to heat up your water separately. This kettle is great because you just heat and pour...but, it claims to be made of stainless steel, but after about a year of use I can see rust forming in the bottom of the kettle. Kinda scary as stainless steel shouldn''t rust right? I guess being made in China keeps the cost down for the manufacturer, but where does that leave the customer?

I bought this kettle for the spout! My vintage glass teapot is great for boiling water, but I was having trouble slowing down the pour using it with my Chemex. After doing some research I bought this, and so far I love it. You can pour at at trickle or faster if you want; this greatly improves the pour over brewing process.

This is my first electric kettle and it is very simple to use. It takes around 6 minutes to boil a full pot (1 liter) of cold filtered water. Some reviewers have said this is slow but it doesn''t bother me. It has a 1000W heater, while other electric kettles are 1500W, so the slower boil makes sense.

The workmanship seems solid; the brushed stainless steel is attractive and feels heavy enough to last. The plastic handle is easy to grip and stays cool to touch. There is no plastic inside the kettle except at the very top so your boiling water will not come in contact with plastic if that concerns you. Also, this product boasts a 2 year warranty which is longer than most small appliances these days.

I seem to remember the original instructions were to clean the filter regularly. I don''t have a problem with mold or slime buildup, but see they have a product for that.

I have very hard water and so quickly get a buildup of minerals left over as the water evaporates. To remove that, I simply pour some vinegar onto the filter from the top, while it''s still in the machine. As the crust starts to soften (the vinegar dissolves the crust) I pour the liquid in the bottom of the machine into the sink, lay the filter down (it will now flatten without breaking) pour some more vinegar on it (probably 2 cups, total) and let it soak until it stops bubbling. Rinse good with water and it''s ready to go again. I''ve used the same filter for several years. It is now finally disintegrating so I''m buying a new one.

This machine is for the bedroom. I also have a much larger one, different make, same type filter, large-room size, and use the same procedure for it.

I purchase these every year for my Vicks humidifier. I have spent way beyond what the machine itself cost me on filters. Each filter lasts about a month to 6 weeks before getting moldy and stops wicking the water. I only use the humidifier for about 4 months in the Winter, which a 3 pack of filters is good for. I would use it all year if I did not have to keep replacing the filters. If someone knows a better choice of longer lasting filters, please post.

12/9/08-Too bad this is the only place I have easily found these. I cannot believe they have gone up $10 in cost since I purchased them a year ago (11/30/07)!

These things don''t work remotely as well as teh filter which came with my Viks unit. I would have to replace the water with the orginal filter in the morning, these filters only help lift half the water of the old ones.

I''d like to know how long a non-extended-life pad will last. These are made with one perforated cylinder of foil (with opposing sides very poorly connected if they are connected at all), surrounded on each side by a cylinder of perforated *paper*. I think it''s just the paper that''s holding the cylinder together. It will last a month if you are lucky. Don''t plan on soaking it in vinegar, as it will just fall apart. I think they call this "planned obsolescence". This is obviously where they make their money, similar to ink-jet printers and their costly ink cartridges.

Cleaning:

Hand wash only. Use only soft sponges and cool soapy water. Use mild liquid detergent only. Use no abrasive materials nor scrub pads. NOT dishwasher safe.

Before first use:

Hand wash the pot and all components in cool soapy water. Rinse well and allow to air dry.

Making your coffee:

Before starting: Use coarse or "French Press" ground coffee in your Hario Cold Brew system.

Pro Tip: Use your favorite coffee. You''ll be surprised at how much better it tastes!

1. Fill your Hario glass pot to the 800 ml line with quality cool water. Remember: coffee is 99% water. Using icky-tasting water will result in icky-tasting coffee.

2. Fill the filter assembly with ground coffee just until the filter mesh is totally covered. (directions say 80ml, but meh)

3. Place the filter assembly into the glass pot.

4. Pour additional water through the grounds until the glass pot is completely full and grounds are wet.

Optional: give the grounds a stir with a plastic straw or chopstick. (I never bother)

5. Place the pot cover onto the pot. It will click into place.

6. Let the pot rest! You can keep it on your kitchen counter for up to 12 hours. If you''d like a stronger steep, place the pot in the fridge and allow to chill for up to 24 hours. (I go 12 hours on the counter. No more than 75 degrees F, though. So, hot nights, put it in the fridge)

7. Remove the filter and enjoy your coffee concentrate!

For hot coffee, I mix 1 part coffee concentrate to 1 part boiling water.

For iced coffee, I fill a glass with ice and mix in 2 parts coffee concentrate to 1 part milk.

I recommend storing your cold brew in a resealable glass container in the refrigerator. I use an old french milk bottle with a rubber seal. Your cold brew will store in the fridge for up to a week... but it won''t last that long. Trust me.

Yes, this brew method uses more coffee than traditional drip, but: you''re getting concentrate (so it goes further than you''d think) and you''re gaining far superior taste.

I have no use for my automatic drip nor French Press coffee makers any more. If I want piping hot coffee, I place the concentrate and water into an old Pyrex stovetop coffee pot and heat until nearly boiling.

If you''re going to go cold brew, buy the right pot and don''t give in to the hype. (No special coffee needed. Just coarse grind!)

I bought this after reading the reviews. some reviewers noted that all instructions are in Japanese. there is a worthwhile YouTube that shows how to use the same model. It''s easy to use and fits well in the fridge. I previously had the toddy-maker. I would not recommend that. it relies on a wool type filter. after it inevitably gets clogged, it won''t drain. It also sits precariously on your counter and if it goes over you have a giant mess. (Don''t ask how I know.)

this thing is basically a giant filter that sits in the pot. the water soaks through it and you get coffee. IT TAKES A LOT OF COFFEE. I have only used it for ice coffee and the quality is very good. I don''t know how it would be diluted, though.

they also say you can''t put it in the dishwasher. i don''t see why you can''t top shelf it. it''s plastic and glass. the filter rinses easily by hand and i probably wouldn''t put it in the dishwasher.

the only real negative about this thing is that you have to carefully re-stir in the filter. otherwise the coffee seems to get hard. maybe it doesn''t matter, but the water seems to get in better if you do. it also seemed to work better on the the counter than in the fridge. they tell you not to leave it out for more than 8 hours. i did, with no ill effects. (you leave the toddy-maker out the whole time too. you have to because it won''t fit in the fridge.)

all in all, a good coffee gadget.

OK, so this pot truly does what the description says it should. I bought it as a gift and my friends are very pleased with it, the Mizudashi pot makes wonderful coffee and it is nice looking as well. The coffee brewed this way is great tasting, the glowing reviews are right.

However, I would not buy it for myself, since we have too many coffee tools, from a fancy Nespresso machine, to a french press, to an Aerobie AeroPress, to travel filters, filtering mugs and so forth. We do love our coffee, we like the taste and need the caffeine.

We truly enjoy the taste of cold-brewed coffee, and, since we have an inclination to experiment and a will to stay away from "uni-taskers", we tried to find an alternative to this pot and I think we have a great one. A one litre mason jar and a "FORLIFE Brew-in-Mug Extra-Fine Tea Infuser with Lid" (our camping coffee and tea filter) that fits right on top of the jar will do the trick for us. When the coffee is done, I can leave it in the jar with a nice fitting lid, or I can transfer it to a carafe, and put the filter in the dishwasher (it''s stainless steel).

The cold-brewed coffee is nice and smooth and I could be compelled to purchase the Mizudashi coffee pot itself, but I cannot foresee washing it by hand (which my friends say is strongly recommended). My clumsy hands have broken countless french presses, and we now own the Frieling Stainless one. This would probably be be the time to mention that we adore our dishwasher as well as our coffee.

If you have the will and ability to wash this by hand, I strongly recommend this pot, it is pretty and does the job well. My two cents are added for an alternative that is not as pretty, but it is functional and can be washed in a dishwasher (a strong inducement in our family).

Bought this model at walmart for as I had a gift card for there. Have used daily for about 6 weeks usu. make about 8 cups. There have been no issues and the coffee tastes good for this economy model. Pause-n-serve works fine...can occasionly drip as all these models do when using that feature. Just keep a small napkin to wipe it off burner before setting carafe back on it. If you pull the carafe between "burps" (when the coffee actually drips through), you can virtually eliminate or minimze the drip. Easy to clean, the 2/hr shutoff works fine, and the timed brew feature works fine (as long as power doesn''t go off over night). Overall it was a great buy in my opinion. The last Mr. Coffee I had (similiar unit) lasted 15 years...I can only hope this one lasts half that long. I even kept and use the same gold filter unit from the old one & it works fine on this model.

NOTE: Save the grounds and use on houseplants, in garden, and on small trees. Keeps insects away esp ants. The trees/plants absorbed the caffeine which doesn''t hurt them the insects can''t tolerate it. I''ve been doing this for 20 years and works great.

So far this has been a wonderful product. We have had it about five weeks and use it five times a week. It is easy to use, makes great,hot coffee and looks good on the counter.

Our previous coffee maker was a Mr. Coffee which lasted about fifteen years. We looked at and researched many brands. For the price and given the service that we got from the previous Mr. coffee maker we went with this model.

The pot is easy to pour from with no drips. There are no grounds in the coffee. There is an occasional drip onto the hot plate when you remove the pot, but not every time. It is easy to fill with water and coffee. The brewing time for nine cups is about fourteen minutes. There is a gurgling sound toward the end of the brewing cycle but it is not loud. We are well pleased with our purchase.

I was very excited when I first bought this coffeemaker five weeks ago. It had everything I wanted in a coffeemaker. It was very stylish, convenient, easy to use, did not drip when pouring, was programmable, made a good cup of coffee, had cord storage, wasn''t too large, had automatic shut-off after 2 hrs., etc. Too bad it stopped working after only 5 weeks of light use. I used it 3 to 4 times a week for one pot at a time. All of the sudden, the water wouldn''t come through. I tried cleaning it as recommended, but to no avail. All it did was sputter and steam up my whole kitchen. Maybe I got a dud, but I returned it to Walmart and bought a different brand. Too bad, since I had such high hopes for this one.

I thought this would be a great coffee maker for the price..everything could ask for plus a little more in the same price range. I have had so many problems with this coffee pot! I''d love to get rid of it in a heart beat!

1. when you pour the coffee it leaks every where! After writing to the company they sent a new pot..which worked for a couple of weeks and then the same problem has occurred again!

2. It takes about 15 minutes to brew a pot of coffee also.

3. Sneak a cup feature doesn''t work long enough to sneak a cup.

4. It does turn off in 2 hours but also shuts off while brewing if you need to brew another pot in those 2 hours of the first pot.

5. The buttons start to stick probably from the coffee leaking on to them.

I don''t feel this is a safe pot anymore to leave plugged in all the time because of the "sticky" buttons. The programmable feature is nice so that would be something I may look for in a new purchase but not a must have if it brews faster than this one. I would not purchase this maker again or the same brand..didn''t live up to what I was hoping it would!
