My hexagon water filter works great. My water tastes good and the water is alkaline just as intended. The only thing I do not like is that it does not have an adjustable water spout. Other than that, it does its job.

I am very disappointed with my purchase. First of all, I expected the water to taste good, but it doesn''t. So now the filter is sitting on my counter top, unused. According to the seller, the poor taste may be due to the poor water quality of our water, but I installed a PUR filter afterwards and the water from the inexpensive PUR filter tastes better. Secondly, Amazon should have a very visible link to their or their sellers'' return policy that can be easily checked by a prospective buyer. This will help the buyer decide whether he or she is willing to invest his or her money on a product that cannot be returned onced it is opened and used. I had the impression from reading Amazon''s policy and talking to their customer service staff, that I would get credit for my purchase if it is not satisfactory to me. For that reason I went ahead with the purchase. But I found out afterwards that I could not get a refund as the seller required that it be in the original box unopened! I was in a catch 22 situation where I could not determine whether I made a good purchase unless I use it. I have to be very careful about buying anything from Amazon in the future.

Rutland Fireplace Glass Cleaner Save 5% Off

As you may or may not (as I did not) know, you should not use Windex or any other conventional glass cleaner for shower and fireplace glass (which has a film on it that would be removed by Windex).

This stuff is hard to find in retail stores (learned about it from my fireplace person) but definitely worth the search: it does the job beautifully!)

I needed to clean a pellet stove window and read the review by the person who suggested using ash and water. I tried this and it works very well. Austin Air FR400 HealthMate Air Purifier (HM400) Filter Replacement

The filter is fine, but required some aggressive work with a hammer to make it fit my antique model. Compared to the previous replacement filter, this one had metal where the old one had fiberboard. I suppose this would be an upgrade, except that the designer apparently didn''t consider the placement of some bolts on my 15 year old Healthmate; hence the need to put some serious dents into the filter. The previous replacement filter had the same problem, but the fiberboard had more give to it. It is my unscientific impression that the new filter is not as quiet out of the box as the previous replacement filter was (based on my 5 year old memory), but maybe it''s just my machine getting older; or different room acoustics. Perhaps another owner can offer a second opinion.

How can you tell if your Austin Air System needs a new filter? If even the lowest fan speed can be heard around the house, it''s time to replace the filter. After putting this filter in my Austin, it is so much quieter. I guess that means these filters do their job and cleans that nasty stuff out of the air.

I purchased a Maytag refrigerator from an authorized Maytag dealer in October 2005. I was informed, at the time of purchase, the filter will last 12onths( or very close to 12 months). There is an indicator on the refrigerator that tells me when to change the filter. About a year went by and sure enough the light went on ,I bought a new filter from the Maytag store, and all was well. I followed this every year until 2009. In 2009 I found the filter on Amazon and ordered it. It was $10 cheaper and I did not have to drive 40 plus miles to the Maytag Store. The filter delivered was a 6 MONTH FILTER. It said it on the box. Amazon was excellent with refunding my money. But I still needed a new filter( I thought). So off I went to the Maytag store. The manager of the store sold me the 12 month filter and informed me that this is the only one he sells and that the filter is marked replace 12 months and not to be fooled because the packaging is very similar. Coincidentally, Amazon refunded my money, but the company that filled the order didn''t want it back,so I left it in. Sure enough, 6 months later, the light went on to change the filter. I had the one I purchased from the Maytag Store , installed it, and just a couple of days ago, the light went on to change the filter,12 months later. So folks, the 12 month filters are out there. The Amazon description of the filter does not show both sides of the filter and does not show the box. That is where the you will find out whether it is a six or 12 month filter. I have been using "Capture Dry carpet cleaner" for years on my rental property and was getting pretty good results. Just spent and hour applying and working in "Capture" to some really bad spots which lightened them by 40%. Decided to try a can of "409 carpet foam cleaner". It took less than 10 min to apply and work in the same spots ... and at a fraction of the cost.

Wow ... I was shocked at the great results ... and it was so easy to apply.

The results of this product are directly correlated to the amount of intellect and elbow-grease that the user puts into the job. Given other reviews we have read some seem to expect to just be able to dust the stain with the powder, count to three, run a vacuum over it, and have the stain magically vanish.

Instead, set aside time to do the job right. Get the pretreatment mist (Capture Soil Release Pre Mist 24oz) and spray it liberally on the stain, let it soak, even use a brush to work it in a bit, and do it again if a bad stain. THEN use the powder and a brush to work it in a bit, and then GIVE IT TIME to work... maybe an hour or so... and then vacuum it up. We had one stain (copier toner spilled on a berber rug) that we let sit overnight and this stuff worked!

Bad stains might require a couple goes at it, but I can tell you that even red wine on a white carpet was no match for this stuff.

Seriously. The smarter and more aggressive your effort, the better your results will be. If you are willing to give it a good try, we recommend this stuff highly.

My Royal is used at a deer camp, which way off in the woods and does not have a city water supply. We have a well, but the water does not get used enough for the water to get cycled out. So instead of bringing a lot of bottled water with the family, we hook the Berkey up, and filter the water from either the well or a near-by creek.

For a group of 4 people, the Royal Berkey does a great job. If you have more then say 6+ people, you "might" want to consider upgrading to the Imperial Berkey.

Be sure to purge the filters before you use them. If you just pour the water into the holding the tank, the flow might be reduced to as if you purged the filters before installing them.

I like how the Royal Berkey does not stand 3 feet off the counter top. Being 5 feet 9 inches tall, I can walk up to the Berkey, lift the reservoir lid and easily see how much water is in it.

I love my Berkey and their customer service is fantastic. Lovely people. But in the 10 months I''ve had it, we''ve gone through 3 sets of filters. The first set we thought maybe it was our fault, so we bought more. that set we discovered that the glue sealing the candle into the base was defective. customer service confirmed that that happens sometimes and sent us another set for free. The water started tasting bad again a few days ago and now is undrinkable, seems worse than our yucky tap water. I checked to see and one of the candles is totally free of the base. Water simply pours through instead of going through the candle.

I also have a problem with the fluoride filter, because it is so difficult to clean the system with it on. You have to carefully lift the top canister out so that you don''t accidentally knock the fluoride filter and possibly break the connecting part. then you have to carefully unscrew the fluoride filters while someone else holds the canister because you can''t lay it down on the side without breaking the connecting parts. All the fluoride gravity filters I''ve seen are the same design. I used good quality ceramic candles for years and didn''t find them difficult to handle, but these black filters are harder to maintain and the piggyback fluoride filter is more than I can manage alone. I''d keep using it in spite of the inconvenience if the filters were just reliable, but now I give up.

We switched to the ceramic candles and were very happy with them for a month until our source water got contaminated. There was no apparent change to either bacteria or the bitter taste (chemical contamination?). The filtered water got a rotten smell after 24 hours at room temperature and gave me diarrhea before that. I went back to bottled water, but got chemical sensitivities from it. (I''m very sensitive get headaches, dizziness, gallbladder pains from drinking water from plastic bottles.) I then tried putting that water through the filter, and it looks like it''s going to work for the 2 brands that don''t have much plastic or chalky taste to begin with. I couldn''t tell a difference in GV spring water that smelled and tasted more plasticky.

I''m sure I''ve read that these original Berkfield ceramic filters are used by aid agencies in Africa, but I''m no longer sure I believe it.

Yes, it''s a bit difficult to snap them back together, but I place the base on the floor and use my body weight to get the top back on right. Once they''re together right, they are secure. I plugged the hole in the clean-water resevoir with a clean cotton ball to keep the little flying bugs out, and it allows the air to escape as the water displaces it while the base fills. I add water daily to the top, as we love to drink and cook with clean, healthy water. Think about whether this kind of filter is what you need before you spend this kind of money, but personally, I''d do it again in a heartbeat. Great product! We love it. You can''t take an under-the-sink filter with you if you have to move very quickly, and in an emergency situation where municipal water systems fail (such as local or national disaster situations or the possibly-coming-soon-to-your-neighborhood catastrophy scenarios that accompany severe civil unrest come on, folks, open your eyes and look at where this country is headed!), I will be utterly grateful to have a reliable method of obtaining clean water even when only dirty water might be available.

I ordered this in hopes that it will at least help with the problem we have in this area with well water that has a sulphur taste and smell (YUCK)!. Today there is only a slight smell and taste so I can''t tell yet just how much this Berkey will help when we have those days when the smell is horrible (fills the kitchen) and the taste is something you only taste once and never again. If you smell the sulphur, you learn quickly NOT to taste it!

But as I said, today there is only a slight sulphur smell to our well water. I got my Berkey assembled with absolutely no problem and have no problem with leakage around the spigot. The instructions didn''t really spell out the correct placement of the washers on the spigot, but the instruction booklet did under the "Leaking Spigot" section. The white beveled washer goes on the outside with the beveled side facing the chamber. I''m 66 years old (almost :), and I am small, yet hand tightening it as instructed in the booklet worked like a charm.

The water is GREAT! No sulphur smell and no sulphur taste. I researched this sulphur problem on Berkey''s website and it was stated that (perhaps) not all of the sulphur smell or taste will be taken care but most of it should be. Again, today the sulphur is only slight, but it took care of it completely. The water tastes great and I''m very pleased! I will test this out further when we have one of those days when we have a heavy sulphur content and try to report back.

We are VERY rural and my husband has extreme health problems (cancer) and I don''t want to be running back and forth (55 60 mile round trip) to the store for water. I have high hopes so far that this is our answer. My husband and I moved here two years ago and we had the existing well re-dug and for quite some time we had wonderful water, but no longer. Between the gas and the cost of water, if this Berkey keeps working the way it seems like it is going too, we''ll save quite a bit.

If this Berkey doesn''t do a great job on the days when the sulphur is horrible, I will just start purifying the water on the good days and put the water up. Anyway, I''m more than satisfied with this product!

Edited: This company is far beyond great! I had called them about some missing washers and a nut from a view window I had ordered from another company here on Amazon who would not take care of their mistake and send the missing parts. This company (Royal Berkey) said they had them and even though I didn''t order this view window from them that they would send me the washers and nut FREE of charge. They actually took it upon themselves to make up for another companies sloppiness! Never have I seen a company care so much for the individual (not just their customers) that they would, at their expense, make up for another companies mistakes. Wow, just wow! Wish I could give this company a 10 star rating!

Unit assembled easily. All you do is screw in two cartridges and stack it together. If you get the white fluoride filters to add on, they are a little clunky. I no longer buy gallons of water every week, our family takes this unit camping, and if were out of power and clean water after a hurricane or storm, we aren''t out of clean water! Lake water tastes fantastic and so does my tap water here in the city, not to mention morning coffee. This is the water we cook with too. Saeco 21103 Royal Professional Fully Automatic Espresso Machine

Unlike the review below we''ve been lucky in that we''ve had no problems with our unit.

It''s been exactly 3 years since we purchased our machine and we haven''t looked back. The machine was bought as we were spending $40-50 a week at Starbucks. Now we use organic milk and beans and make our own latte''s at home.

The machine is super easy to use. There are various settings for the grinding and dose of coffee. I just set the dose on max and change the grind depending on what beans I use. The machine gives you 3 sizes of coffee depending on what you want. The steam wand works well but can only be used after coffee dispensing is finished. It takes 15-25sec for the steam wand to really start.. steaming. The cappuchinore on my machine doesn''t work but I only tried to use it after we had the machine for 2 years so I''m not bothered too much. I also have the direct water connection to my reverse osmosis system. So I haven''t had to de-scale yet and might never need to.

Another useful item is the rinsing cycle where the machine runs hot water through itself for 10mins. At the end you get to see how much "dirt" was cleaned out. Quite satisfying :)

The machine also has some idiot proof features. One is when you put in pre-ground coffee but then press the coffee button instead of the pre-ground button first. The machine makes some funky noises but then dumps everything out. I''m not proud to say I''ve done this more than once....

Overall through it''s the best $$$ I''ve ever spent and would highly recommend this machine. It might not be the cheapest (or most expensive!) but you get what you pay for!

This coffee maker makes excellent coffee and is able to make it quickly enough to safisfy 25 thirsty employees! The milk steamer is quick and efficient too!

This machine makes good espresso and good cappuccinos. In terms of fully automatic machines, its price is infinitely more reasonable than that of a Jura. The price of a Jura X9 at $6500 is about that of a commercial machine. This Saeco will do nicely until I get my Faema E61 or Prestige semi-automatic 2-groupers with a Mahlkonig grinder. I doubt if my commercial machine will make a much better espresso or cappuccino but I think a manual machine has fewer maintenace problems and I have more control over the milk foaming. However the Saeco does offer the manual steam wand as well as its cappuccitore (milk foamer) and they both work well. I also like the energy saver feature of the Saeco since I prefer not to power off the machine. I also like the cup warmer. The screen menu is easy to use and the different options and diagnostics are useful.

We''ve had our Royal Professional since August 2008. When it works, it works fine. For us, we only make 2-3 capppucinos/lattes per day, so if it isn''t flowing right that day (inexplicably), then it is annoying. It is back to Saeco for its 3rd repair for the same problems inconsistent coffee flow. Saeco cannot explain the cause of the problem, as they seemingly repair or replace different parts each time. BTW, they will ask you to be burdened with taking it to UPS or a UPS Store (where you will be charged the return shipping); If you escalate it to the Customer Service Manager, they will cover the shipping and have UPS come to your door. However, the point of buying a $1,400+ automatic machine is to expect it to reliably make 2-3 coffees when it doesn''t, the inconvenience of being without it for weeks at a time during repairs is unacceptable. Saeco is now offering to replace the unit, but with the negative comments on all their products, I am disappointed and exhausted with the brand. So, if you''re hoping to save your Starbucks or Caribou budget, not sure this is the answer.

I recently purchased this vacuum cleaner and I''m impressed with all the advertised features especially the suction. Shark promotes this vacuum for pet owners so I think they could do a better job of letting pet owners remove the brush roller to cut away accumulated dog hair that is tightly wound and knotted. Their solution is to turn the vacuum over to expose the brush roller and then cut away the hair or other debris that is trapped in the bristles. This takes a lot to time and patience because you have to manuever your scissors and fingers within the housing slot. It would be much easier if we could remove the brush to cut, unwind, detangle & pull off the knotted clumps of hair.

this lightweight vacuum does do the job when it comes to picking up pet hair off the carpets, rugs and furniture. HOWEVER shark doesn''t tell you on their website or in their commercials that there are no replacement prats available for the power nozzle that is on the bottom of the vacuum. there are no replacement belts or brush rolls available for this part so if there is a malfunction you are forced to either buy yet another vacuum cleaner or to spend more than $60 for a replacement power nozzle so you can continue to use a vacuum you already paid for.

Had i been aware of this fact i would not have purchased this item. the euro pro company needs a reality check!! especially during these tough financial times.

We have two Coton de Tulear''s who''s fur is more like hair ~ very fine, and gets tangled in our carpeting and is extremely hard to remove.

After using it the first time, I was absolutely amazed how much it was bringing up! Dog hair ~ gone, along with everything my Dyson had left behind.

Surprisingly, it does very well cleaning along baseboards etc. No so, with the Dyson.

The dust cup is extremely small, so I did have to empty the dust cup many times when I first used it. I''m sure this will ease up after my Shark has cleaned up all the Dyson left behind.

It does have a shorter cord, which I actually like, and makes a bit of a ''whining'' sound when turned on, but it''s not distracting.

Lastly, it has a 5 year warranty ~ exactly the same as the very expensive Dyson!

I wouldn''t hesitate to try this one out.

Very surprised at the cleaning results from this machine. I''ve used rug doctors in the past which cleaned well also but was tired of renting. Cleans as well or slightly better then the rental. Reviews are vg on several other sites. My carpets turned out fluffy and clean. This machine is easy to use and has several nice features. I I like the fact that you don''t have to attach the attachment hose and stair brush to seperate lines. Just twist a knob and your ready to go. All in one tank is great for ease of use. The motor is only 6.8 amps compared to others 12 amps. However you would never know this as it has great suction and power. Also it is realativly quiet. After cleaning, my carpets dried in about 4 hours.

Only negative would be that it left dust clumps on the carpet. Not that big of a deal as your suppose to vacuum again after cleaning when the carpet is dry anyway.

Overall I would rate this machine a 4.5. No machine is perfect at everything.

I read the descriptions of several of thes water filter housing wrenches made by Culligan and others and I am left befuddled. Why on earth don''t these companies tell you the most important thing they can tell you, and that is... what the inside diameter of the ring part of the wrench is. And, what''s with Culligan? What... they only want to sell housing wrenches to people who have THEIR filters? It''s dumb. Make them in several diameters, 3 inch, 3.5 inch, 4 inch, 4.5 inch, 5 inch, etc. etc. Then we''ll know which one is actually the right size. And, Culligan can reap more sales, even if they''re to those folks who own other brands of filters. A rather dumb, overly proprietory practice. I tried two different ones trying to get lucky... NOPE! It''s a shame... cause the quality seems good. Nevertheless, this one''s goin'' back just like the first one!!

Sometimes my big blue filters are dang hard to loosen! I was on the verge of breaking my original wrench and

decided to get two more as spares. Tell you what, using two of these together will work much better and are much

stonger than using just one. Sometimes, you just have to have spares or double up and the big blue filters

require such action at times.

Watts Premier Membrane 110009 24 GPD Membrane replaced by 560014

Bought this watts filter for a watts RO system. Good price, free shipping, now the water system works properly again. One note, watts seems to like changing their filters as time goes on. The original part number I needed was years obsolete, I went off the 24 GPD rating.

I have single manifold Watts RO system. It had been with original membrane for 7 years now, according to Watts it is time for replacement. I measured reject rate on the membrane and it is 85% so I decided to replace it. Unfortunately this new membrane only has 90% reject rate which is really bad for RO system.

I did try Filmtec membrane in sort of hack setup and at the half price it has reject rate close to 99% with higher flow rate. Unfortunately, in order to properly work in Watts filter both membrane and filter have to be modified. On filmtec membrane the rubber skirt should be moved to another side. On the filter check valve should be added and tubing rearranged.

So, this membrane is not much better than 7 yr old and for that it is negative review. Guess it is probably the same for all watts branded membranes. One star added for it actually fit into the filter. I am happy for now with water hardness slightly under 40 but once it over 50 all gets modded to Filmtec membrane.

Watts membrane is expensive, non-standard and low quality.

I ordered this filter for my Watts system (after calling Watts to be sure this one would fit). The filter did not fit our housing. Emailed seller who never responded. My husband measured the filter size (he is a tool maker and has the tools to make a precise measurement) and found it to be bigger than the old filter. Since this company did not respond, we called Watts and sent it back to them. They also measured it and found it had two extra turns on the membrane, making it to large to fit the housing. Went to Lowe''s and found a GE filter that fix exactly. Not impressed with this seller at all. This is my first negative review in all my years dealing with Amazon. Would definitely not deal with this seller again.

I have a 5SV 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis System. The filter doesn''t fit in the membrane house. After I found out it stuck in the tube, it''s really a hard to pull it out. Usually I buy those stuffs from Watts Premier''s website directly. Because I have Amazon Prime Account and the price is lower, I want to give a try and benefit from the two-day shipping. However, I believe I would not buy from this seller anymore.

This is really nothing more than a taste filter it does a pretty good job of making los Angeles water taste good I use this to run to the water and ice maker in my fridge.

However, doing an actual water test, it does not remove a lot of the dissolved solids and minerals.

The overall system is fairly well made it is easy to change filters and you do not have to turn of the water to do so as the filter head features an auto shut off when the filter is removed.

However, the attachment to the wall is a single screw, and the connectors for the water lines are not as robust as i might like (friction fit essentially but then it IS all plastic and not brass.) this is probably better to use with plastic water line, as the flexibility of the plastic line should reduce stress at the fitting. I of course am using copper line, and thus my concern over the robustness of the fittings.

This is a great option for a fridge that does not have a built in filter. The filter is easy to install and easy to change. Water tastes good. I bought extra long tubing and ran it up to the cabinet above the fridge through a small hole made with a drill. Now it is totally concealed and accessible with a step stool.

Simply put...it works. I had that "Water Hose" taste on Ice due to my lines are all plastic. It went away immediately after installation. I only took one star away because the installation instructions lack detail on where the filter is to be placed. But it was easy if you have plastic line from the refrigerator valve to the ice-maker. Enjoy.

Installation was quick and easy. But somehow, I did not seat the plastic tubing in the fitting properly and later that night (bad things always happen when you''re not there!) the input line popped out and the entire kitchen and nook were under water.

I reinstalled the system with greater care (and performed major house repairs) and it has worked fine for five years. I does no major filtration, but the water in the cubes and dispenser are good. Works for us. The refer. has one built in, but it costs $60 to change out yearly, or more often. I''ll take the GE. Wish the fittings were a bit more secure, though!

DeLonghi PAC W130E 13,000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner

I admit, I got suckered into buying this unit because of the marketing and slick featureset. What a disappointment.

I am returning it as quickly as possible, and would probably avoid Delonghi products going forward. I was trying to get information on where to buy replacement filters from Delonghi USA (& Canada), the former did not reply to several emails (USA tech support), and the latter the Canadian support email bounced (no such mailbox). What a joke.

PROS:

Really nice & modern color scheme, graphite and silver.

CONS:

VERY Noisy sounds like an old dishwasher when cooling in Water to Air mode (swishing noise, I am guessing the rotary engine cooling off using the water).

Water refilling to get optimal cooling (to get 13K BTU) is annoying & frequent (Tested on a very hot day I had to refill it every 6 hours), I would bet that most people would give up on this eventually. Without the water, this unit does 9000 BTU in air cooling.

Huge This thing is only portable due to the casters. Very bulky.

No Oscillating Louvers! The air is blown up in one direction, no choice.

No information on how (part#?) or where to buy the 3M filters that should be replaced once a year.

Heavy Perhaps I''m being picky here, but this thing is so heavy (128 lbs).

What I recommend instead: The Sharp CVP10MX, as most people here (Amazon) have had a great experience with it. I recommend you have a look.

I had a Sharp unit that finally gave out and when searching Amazon I found this new DeLonghi air conditioner with eco-friendly refrigerant. I have always liked DeLonghi products for their stylish looks and this air conditioner is no execption.

I have a metal roof with vaulted ceilings and when it gets hot the upstairs loft gets about 10* hotter than the rest of the house and since this is where I sleep I need some extra comfort. We turn it on around dinner time and put it in the turbo function that uses both water and air cooling to bring the temperature down and then when we get ready for bed we turn it down to the sleep function which is pretty quite for an air conditioner.

I like the easy to read LCD display and the super cooling with the water tank really helps get the room temperature down quickly. This is a solid unit that weighs about 130 pounds so the casters and built in handles help in moving it around. It has all the bells and whistles with 24 hour timer, auto/sleep function, turbo cooling and even dehumidifies. The R410a eco-friendly gas refrigerant was a bonus as I try to do my part to help the enviornment.

I was skeptical about having to add water to this unit, but the level of performance it produces due to this is well worth it. This is now the only unit I leave on during the day for my pets while I''m at work...as long as I leave the doors to the other rooms open, it will keep my entire apartment cool even during the hottest summer days. I bought this air conditioner because I own a DeLonghi air conditioner which I bought in 1994, after 17 years, it still works fantastic, I have it in our guest room because it''s a smaller unit but works with water just like this one but the older model with detachable water tank. After the summer season, I really clean it well, de-calcify it and it works tirelessly for 17 summers. I bought a Bosch air conditioner 5 years ago, it''s as heavy this appliance but doesn''t give the perfect cooling effect, it doesn''t work with water just fan, and although it is supposed to cool a 45 sq.m room, it actually can just cool a small room, so it''s now in the bedroom. Believe me, Bosch air conditioner is as loud as a DeLonghi although it works just with fan.

I have this DeLonghi PACW130E in our living room 52 sq.m, it really works wonder even in real hot summer days. I have to admit that it is loud, but I get used to it because it is efficient, it is quiet if the cooling is in the fan mode, so quiet that you hardly hear any noise. I don''t mind filling the tank every 6-8 hours, filling the tank is easy, takes just few minutes. Since I live in Europe, there are stores selling DeLonghi accessories like filter, spare-parts, decalcifying liquid etc... The filter is expensive though.

I gave this one a 4 stars instead of 5 because it is loud. I would recommend this air conditioner to anyone who wants a real cool atmosphere in a hot summer day.

Bodum Bean Ice French Press 1.5 Litre Iced Coffeemaker Save 29% Off

I got this to make cold brew coffee concentrate and it works perfectly and easily. It is also great for large batches of hot brew too.

COLD BREW:

1. Add 12 scoops medium course grounds (scoop included)

2. Fill beaker half way with filtered water, stir grounds into water for about 35 seconds to saturate all the coffee

3. Fill remaining volume with filtered water leaving 1/2 inch room at the top

4. Place the bonus lid on french press and put in refrigerator for 12-24 hours depending on strength desired**

5. Once steeped for hours desired, remove lid and put filter lid on and press grounds to bottom of beaker

6. Mix coffee concentrate with water, either 1 parts concentrate to 2 parts water, or up to half concentrate and half H2O

I use 1/2 coffee concentrate, 1/2 milk over ice because I like it strong. My hubby prefers hot black coffee made with the concentrate and uses the half concentrate and half H2O ratio, then heats it in the microwave. We notice a definite absence of acid, which my husband prefers for taste reasons and I like because of taste and health reasons. When I am under stress, I have to take acid reduction pills for my stomach, being able to drink cold brew when under the gun has given me back my beloved cup of coffee without the stomach cramps.

TIP: Always use filtered water for cold brew since you will taste any and all funky flavors in your tap water. The water for cold brew doesn''t get boiled so these flavors, which may disappear with boiling for hot coffee, are very present with cold brew.

**If you have the overhead clearance in your fridge, you can put the filter lid on and press it down about an inch to keep all the grounds under the waterline. The top knob will stick up about 8 inches, so be careful not to hit the lightbulb in the ceiling of your fridge. I have noticed a small difference in flavor, it comes out a bit richer/darker than if I use the bonus lid.

HOT BREW:

1. Add 12 scoops medium course grounds (scoop included)

2. Fill beaker with water that is just under boiling hot, leaving 1/2 inch room at the top

3. Stir grounds into water for about 15 seconds to saturate all the coffee (saturation is quicker in hot water)

4. Place filter lid on beaker, but don''t press down until coffee has steeped for 4 minutes

This massive french press makes enough hot coffee to fill a carafe to the top and have a whole large mug of coffee left to pour. This worked great for a large party we had this past weekend, because I only have to make one pot of coffee instead of two like I did with our 8 cup Chambord press.

7. It has a rubber seal and a thumb pressure pour spout, so coffee doesn''t spill out if jostled in the fridge

8. 50 oz. of concentrate will last us all work week, so I only have to fill it on Sunday speedy mornings!

9. There are no small screws or bits to lose, everything dismantles quickly with just a turn of the filter base

10.The handle is well designed, keeping your knuckles away from the glass if you are making hot coffee

Final tip: To get the top off when you first take it out of the box, twist the top a half inch and then pull the press screen out to remove the lid. There is a twist latch in this lid that my other Bodum french press does not have, and the instructions for using this press are folded up INSIDE the closed coffee press, LOL. Thought I''d pass on this bit of advice for those used to their Chambord press :)

UPDATE: After using this product constantly for over 3 months, I have to say it is one of the all-time best things in my kitchen. I don''t have to take as much acid-reduction medication as I did while drinking hot brew. The system is so streamlined for cold-brew concentrate that I don''t even have to think about it. My hubby cannot believe how delicious cold-brew concentrate is heated up every morning, he says it is the smoothest way to brew coffee that he has ever had. I still highly recommend this product and will be purchasing more for gifts.

BONUS IDEA: I have been adding chicory in with my coffee grounds and it is amazing. Every batch is super smooth, rich and dark. I got it here on amazon on subscribe & save: Community Coffee Private Reserve Ground Coffee, Medium-Dark Roast, 100% Chicory, 12-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6). I add 3 tbls. of chicory to 8 bodum scoops of coffee beans. I read other places that chicory was great in cold brew, but I was hesitant about buying 6 bags without trying it; I am so glad I just spent the $13 to find out -I do not make cold brew without it now.

This is a large French press coffee maker that has a seal-tight lid that can transform it in to a cold brew coffee maker. I mainly use this for hot coffee but when my brother-in-law was visiting, I used it for cold brew; cold brew tends to lessen the irritation of the stomach than regular hot brewed coffee because it is less acidic. He can drink cold brew with no stomach irritation.

Pros:

-Large Size 1.5 Liter I don''t have to make 2 pots of press coffee with this size.

-2 tight fitting lids with rubber seals. The lids makes brewing cold in the fridge a snap; the coffee does not smell up the fridge or take on other odors.

-Glass Jug Glass is best for brewing coffee hot or cold; it''s easier to clean & odors don''t cling. And no concerns about BPA or plastic flavor.

-Nice stainless press mechanism that comes apart for cleaning. I take it apart & run it through the dishwasher along with the glass jug. I put the plastic body through also with no problems.

-Pouring lever & spout

Con:

-Plastic body. I prefer stainless steel because the plastic may break over time. But, the plastic does seem to be a good quality & the colors are fun. I own other Bodum products; they are durable and well made.

FYI: If you already own a coffee press, you can use it to make cold brew too. However, this version has the added benefit of size & the tight fitting rubber seals on both the press mechanism lid & the extra serving/storage lid.

My recipe for cold brew:

I use a 4:1 ratio of water to ground coffee.

I put 4 cups of fresh cold water in the jug and add 1 cup COARSE ground coffee. Stir it, put the press mechanism/lid on & place in refrigerator for at least 12 hours and up to 24 hours. After 12-24 hours, press the coffee down & either store the coffee concentrate (the liquid) in this container or another glass pitcher/jar after disposing of the grounds.

This press comes with a separate lid so you can store the concentrate in the jug but you will want to remove the grounds from it if you do that. Coarse ground coffee makes a better brew. The beans can become overextracted if they are too finely ground & some of the fine sediment will escape the press filter to leave sludge in your cup. You can pour your concentrate through a paper coffee filter but you will lose some of the taste complexity.

You can store the coffee concentrate in the refrigerator for a week with no problem.

To make hot coffee with the cold brew concentrate: Just pour half a cup of coffee concentrate & add hot water to taste. I usually do this in a 1:1 ratio (coffee concentrate to hot water). You can make 1 serving easily by half filling your coffee cup w/cold water, zap in microwave until hot & then add the coffee concentrate.

To make iced coffee with the cold brew concentrate: Put ice in glass, fill glass ¾ full with concentrate & top off with cold water & cream.

I love my coffee, but it does''t love me so much anymore. I drink a lot of coffee. Mostly espresso, straight up -no milk, no syrup, but after having a lot of heartburn and acid reflux (and later finding out I had an ulcer) I was told I had to give up coffee. The withdrawal symptoms were awful, even worse to me than the ulcer pain. I tried Caffeine gum, but it tasted awful (eventually that didn''t matter and I chewed it anyway just because the headaches from the lack of caffeine were so bad)

Next, I tried Pre-made cold-brewed coffee, but the shipping prices made that really expensive, and I really didn''t like the taste. I tried a couple of the toddy type systems too, and while they work, I found one system was too messy and the filter often clogged. The Second system leaked out all over the fridge during the night.

But this works. Easy, no-mess, It doesn''t leak, and the used grounds just rinse away when you''ve finished drinking the coffee. It is just a big french press, so If you already have one, you should use it, but this one is a great size, and seems very well made.

I find I like it best, after it''s brewed overnight, but I think it''s drinkable after 4 hours if you don''t dilute it.

The Bodum makes fine cold brew. The quality of the product seems good as well. The way the multi part lid is designed / manufactured places a lot of stress on the plastic guiding tube on the top piece. To get the lid on and off, you have to rotate so the spout is to the left

of the slot in the lower lid section. Then you twist it straight. To get the lid off, you twist to the left and pull up on the ball connected to the metal plunger. There is a thin plastic guide for the metal rod in the upper lid, and mine broke off....Just be careful as the lid is very tight,

and the part is fragile. I will have to order a new lid part from Bodum.

Here''s the real "weak link" for me with this brewer--the quality of the cold brew. When I bought this, I also bought a Toddy system. The toddy is designed for cold brew, and even though that system feels cheaply made, the quality of the cold brew is fantastic. It also makes 2 weeks worth of coffee with one batch, rather than the much smaller bodum. Once you get the hang of the schedule, either one works. It is just that you are cleaning up grounds more often with this than with the toddy, and in exchange you get a weaker cold brew as well.

Just got this coffee press because of the larger capacity than my 1 litre bodum coffee press (Brazil). When I opened the package all was well and good, however when I finally got the lid off it turns out that the rubber seal got stuck to the glass. No wonder I had a hard time opening the lid despite having twisted it into the proper open position! So now since the rubber gasket is torn from sticking to the glass, I have to find a replacement. The ring of rubber stuck to the glass had to be scraped off using my fingernail it was that stuck on. I hope they ship the newer stock without the gasket installed so other people won''t have to experience what I just did. Can''t return it since I''m overseas too, bummer.
