these are great for filtering sediment out of well water to save your water heater and appliances,
that said they do not tolerate the cold. We had this in the guest house over the shower. This winter
we had heat tape on the lines and lots of insulation on the pipes 2" x 6" construction and R30
insulation in all walls in in the sub-floors. When it dipped below freezing the filter blew off from the
pressure of the expanding water as it froze. I ordered another and left the heat on 40 in the
guest house and the next one blew in half too (I have to say the "o" rings held admirably each time,
it was the 3/8" plastic that failed. Now I just unscrew the filter when it is not in use (easy to do by
hand, they seal well when just "hand tight".) and I take seriously the "Do not freeze" warning on
the instructions. These are very helpful, easy to install and I have never had one leak. They are
easy to change the fiber filter on they can be found at Home Depot and Lowes for about $9.00
for 2. How long a filter lasts depends on how much water you use and how dirty the water is to
began with.
