2 Black Berkey Replacement Water Filters Save 14% Off

2 Black Berkey Replacement Water Filters - Big BerkeyI purchased the Imperial Berkey about 2 years ago. The unit came with 6 Black Berkey filters. I used only 2 at a time. 3 months ago I replaced the original first 2 Black Berkey filters with a pair from an unopened box. This left me with 2 more new filters left.

After one month, the water started tasting funny. I looked inside and discovered that the Black Berkey filters were both coming apart and oozing some gelatinous material into the water compartment where the filters were.

I have tried and tried to contact Berkey, but there phone number is just a voice recording. They have not answered my numerous emails. I contacted the distributor who is not at fault. He has been overwhelmed with similar complaints.

I cleaned out the Berkey unit completely and installed the final two Black Berkey filters. Last week, the same thing happened again! The filters were coming apart on the bottom where the black part is supposed to be sealed with the black plastic ring.

Now I have no filters left! I bought the Berkey Water units for everyday purification as well as for emergency water filtering in a survival situation. I have lost confidence in this company. Berkey does not respond to complaints, you don''t even know if you are reaching them because no emails are ever acknowledged.

Do your research. There is another company called AquaRain, which makes filters that fit the Berkey. They are made in the USA. Also, a company called Pro Pur also makes filters that will fit the Berkey units. Pro Pur filters, unlike Berkey, are NSF certified.

Sorry to see another formerly great company fail due to poor quality control and even worse customer service. But in this economy, and with my family''s health on the line, I can no longer recommend Berkey products or its company. Look elsewhere.

I have been a defender of the Black Berkey system for years. Not any more. A friend alerted me to the controversy going on here at amazon.com, regarding the efficacy, or lack thereof, of the Black Berkey elements, and, the "questionable" nature of some of the alleged "laboratory testing" presented to trusting buyers by New Millennium Concepts, Ltd., the manufacturer of the Black Berkey elements.

Initially, I found that the now-infamous "laboratory report" alleged to have been conducted at Louisiana State University was outright fraudulent. As other people have indicated, one can write the scientist named on the report, Professor Ralph J. Portier, Ph.D., and he will cheerfully confirm the report is not genuine. I did just that (and you can, too).

I was disturbed sufficiently by this expose, and I consequently ordered the best, affordable home water analysis kit available here at amazon.com, one manufactured by the respected Industrial Test Systems (ITS). Unfortunately, due to many family matters demanding my time, including chronically-ill parents, it wasn''t until this week that I was able to perform the testing using best practices possible in a home setting.

I am now very sorry and deeply embarrassed to say that the Black Berkey output tests positive for Coliform bacteria. ''

I performed the tests in the most hygienic and scientifically-sound manner possible in a home setting, and state confidently that no cross-contamination caused this positive test. The only explanation is the failure of the Black Berkey elements to perform their claimed "self-sterilization."

I would suggest that anyone interested in getting into the Berkey water "purification" system DON''T.

I would suggest that anyone who currently uses one STOP, and get a unit that is known to work and doesn''t allow microbes into your family''s water. I have meekly returned to the Pur system just tonight, which may turn out to be a stop-gap measure, or simply a return to our previous long-term water system. If you doubt my credibility, please, I implore you, and praise you for doing so go buy your own water testing kit here at amazon.com, or, if you have the resources to do so, have testing done by a real specialty laboratory, and find out for yourself.

As for New Millennium Concepts, Ltd., and its distributors & groupies (of which I was one until tonight), I dare you to challenge me on this matter. If you feel what I say is "libelous" to your product, I invite you to contact me, and I will happily provide you my full name, address, and the address of the court of proper venue in which to file your tort claim against me. I will, of course, dearly welcome the opportunity to engage in discovery on your business, its practices, and its "trade secrets." I had confidence in you, total confidence. That makes you "con" artists experts in the "art" of gaining peoples'' confidence.

I purchased this in the spring of 2011. Twice now the filter has come apart (he glue fails) after being in water for a few months.

To their credit, Burkey replaced the filters. The problem is if you buy this product as part of your emergency preparedness program and store it on a shelf somewhere. It may fail when you finally use it at that point it''s too late. Your water is not purified and you are way beyond the warranty replacement period.

In my opinion you cannot rely on this product.

We have stream water at our ranch. For the past 11 years we used the $35.00 PUR countertop filter without problems. But I believed Berkey''s advertising claims. I wanted filters that were the best, that could be scrubbed and reused. In the Spring of 2011, we ordered a Royal Berkey, and several replacement filters (the order was over $800.00). We set it up, and started using it. I have to say, Berkey is sloppy in so many areas. We didn''t get the knob to lift the lid with, so I fashioned one from a drawer pull. I was supposed to get two plugs for the bottom of the top reservior, but only got one, so I had to use three filters instead of two.

I recently read that there is a defect in some of the black filters where it attaches to it''s plastic base. I did the ''red dye test''. I poured water with red food color into the top. Berkey says the water should come out clear. I lifted the top up to see what was happening. Nothing was coming out of two of the filters, but pink, unfiltered water was pouring quickly out of the third. This means that we have been drinking unfiltered stream water since we bought the thing! I am SO ANGRY! This company has been aware that they have this problem since 2010, yet they continue to sell defective filters to unsuspecting consumers!

Berkey says they will replace the defective filters if I print up and fill out a 5 page form. I need to dig ALL of my filters out of storage, prime them, put them in the Berkey, do the red dye test, separate out the bad from the good, Set them all upright for 5 days to dry out, send off the bad filters AT MY OWN EXPENSE, put the Berkey back together with good filters, if I have enough good filters, and wait for the replacement filters.

Gah! We were so much better off with the PUR! I feel like such a sucker!

We live in rural Alaska and the water here is full of iron, not to mention other metals, but iron is the worst. There are times when the water that comes out of the faucet is orange or brown. We have used this water filtration system for 4 years. I am confident in saying that the filters make the water drinkable. I am not sure of the % of metals it removes, but I do know that once our water is filtered it does not smell like iron, it is not orange, or brown, and it tastes clean. I would recommend this product to anyone who has concerns about their drinking water.

Blueair 503 HepaSilent Air-Purification System Save 2% Off

Blueair 503 HepaSilent Air-Purification SystemWow. I am shocked to say the results were within 2 hours. Current apartment has black mold. Asthma has been horrible wherever I go.. always using an inhaler and constant sneezing, head congestion, chest congestion, not sleeping, missing work, etc. I do have allergies and sinus issues, but... they were controllable and I was rarely using my inhaler until they started ripping the black mold out of the wall / drywall. I bought this to help until I move in a few weeks. I changed my mind about putting it in the current apartment (didn''t want the mold in the new air filter). So I took it to the new place. Remember, no matter where I went, my asthma has been an issue (work, shopping, family). I cranked the Blueair on Max. After 2 hours I sat on the floor to unpack a few boxes. I was noticing my breathing was deeper, not shallow from my upper chest, but from my diaphram. I laid on the floor. I could breathe! It was effortless and not a struggle. No wonder I have been so exhausted.. it had become a struggle to breathe regardless where I was. I worked in the new apt for about 6 hrs. NEVER used my inhaler. Went back to current apt... used the inhaler within 2 hours. ?!?! Until I could FINALLY breathe normally, I didn''t realize how this had crept up and was getting worse. Honestly I could cry. Because of the Blueair, I will be suing my apartment building. $400 is nothing to sneeze at (!), and money is very tight, but it is so worth feeling better.

It is loud on max speed, but it was not annoying to me. On low speed, I could barely hear it. So I''m sure the sound isn''t anything to keep me up at night.

Some have stated that this helps keep the air in the entire house cleaner and while that may be the case under ideal conditions (windows closed during the summer, ESPECIALLY in our hot, arid and dusty Southern California summers), they are really intended for large rooms. Regardless, I do agree, these are outstanding air "scrubbers."

For those that may have experienced a less than desirable outcome, when we clean the exterior grids (every one to two weeks) we notice a massive accumulation of dust (from one room, 25''x35'' with windows closed!). When we "reverse" blow air through the filters every month or two (due to the massive amount of dust being trapped by the filters, AGAIN, with our windows closed!), we also notice even more huge volumes of dust blown from the 3 filters and that is AFTER cleaning the exterior grids!

Pros: outstanding large ROOM filtration systems; ROI on replacement filters not anymore expensive considering the longer life cycle of the Blue Air filters over the typical HEPA filters (6 months/Blue Air vs. 3 months/Typical).

Cons: Windows, patio doors, etc SHOULD be kept closed, ESPECIALLY during our arid, dusty So Cal summers (but then, that would be the same with even a WHOLE house filtration system, otherwise, the only thing being accomplished is the outside air being cleaned!)

I recently received my Model 503 unit. I am very happy so far.

It has four ON levels. I normally leave it on level 2 since the sound level is insignificant. I try to turn it up to level 4 for two or three hours every day. On the highest setting, the sound is noticeable, but it is a very smooth clean sound (moving air with no rattles, etc). During my first night or two, I ran it over-night on level four. The level 4 sound worked as white noise for me.

It has been in operation for about two weeks and I can already tell a difference. The dust is gone. I don''t have asthma problems, but sometimes do get sinus issues when trying to sleep at night. This unit has improved my situation.

My unit came with a magnetic LCD remote that can be attached to the 503 unit, your refrigerator, or wherever. This device will show how many days are left before you need to change the filter.

*EDIT My unit is now over a year old. It is still running fine and is as quiet as the first day I powered it up.

First off I am amazed at how quiet it is. It is only loud on the highest setting, and even that is bearable, it is similar to running a box fan on high. However, as soon as you switch to the next setting down, it is much quieter, about the sound of a low fan or in some cases the sound AC makes when running I think this is a great setting still good air flow but much too quiet to disturb anyone. The next two settings down, I literally CANNOT HEAR AT ALL! Specifically the next one down, I can only hear if I put my ear up close to it, and the lowest setting, "HEPA silent" I had to feel the airflow to be sure it was running. This is great, compared to my other air purifier (Honeywell 50250N) it is much quieter it''s second highest speed setting is as or more quiet than the lowest setting on my Honeywell, and it is also designed to cover a larger area and has a special filter option for filtering smoke.

I''ve only just bought it and ran it one day, so I can''t say yet for sure how well it will filter the air, but so far it seems to be doing a good job, the air smells fresher and I haven''t noticed the occasional smoke order I''ll be able to tell better when it gets colder and the people in the apartment below me and around me smoke more indoors. The reason I got it was particularly to deal with the chain-smoking idiots who live below and around me whenever it gets cold they pretty much smoke constantly inside their apartment, and all the smoke seems to get filtered by the apartment building design into my apartment. I may update this review after I''ve used the purifier for a few months.

For years I suffered from severe allergies to dust, pollen, all the usual airborne allergens. Springtime was the worst. I bought the Blueair 503 on the strength of other Amazon reviews and am amazed by how well it works. After just a couple of days, no more sneezing, sniffling, coughing! As other reviews have pointed out, it is noisy at the highest speed, but I''ve found no need to use that setting. By day, I keep it on the medium or next to lowest setting (very quiet) and when I sleep I put it on the lowest setting, which is super-quiet and still effective. Word of advice: Launder all of your bedding when you begin using the Blueair so you''re not breathing in dust particles that may be hiding in sheets, blankets, etc. Word of warning: For the first few days, the Blueair has a weird, but not unpleasant, "new car" smell. That dissipates quickly. Highly recommend!

Aqua-Pure AP810 Replacement Cartridge for Large Diameter Housings Save 36% Off

Aqua-Pure AP810 Replacement Cartridge for Large Diameter Housings
  • Large diameter (5 micron nominal)
  • Graded density/resin bonded
  • For standard dirt/rust removal
  • Flow Rate: 20 - 28 gpm (65.7 - 105.9 lpm)
  • Cold water only

I have been using the AP810 5 micron filters for 10 years. No trace of sediment in our system and it catches a fine clay like sludge. I can usually flush the filter out a couple times and keep using it. They do fail though if you keep doing this so I don''t push it beyond a couple rinses. Your mileage is going to vary but I get 6 months between flushes even on a a new will that had significant initial sediment. Flow will reduce a bit once the sediment creeps up to the canister to about half way, but the flow is still useable at that point. This is when I usually flush it out.

Swiffer WetJet Spray, Mop Floor Cleaner Starter Kit Save 10% Off

Swiffer WetJet Spray, Mop Floor Cleaner Starter KitThis product was 3.5 stars, until I realized I don''t have to use only their cleaning solution and pads! Now this product is awesome!!! It has always worked better than a mop, of course. But now it works better than it did originally!

#1I bought a better, reusable, cleaning pad (from my local grocery store) that sticks to the wet jet. The pad is more absorbable, so it doesn''t leave a layer of dried solution all over the floors.

#2The cleaning bottle of solution that "can''t be opened" actually can be! All you need is a pair of pliers and the top screws right off. Put your favorite/cheaper cleaning solution inside and the top screws right back on.

I have to say... I must be lucky or something. I have never had a problem with my swiffer wet jet -except the time I put a pad on upside down... or should I say downside up :) I rarely fill out these review things, but I think only the angry are reviewing this product, so I had to write. I LOVE the product. It is true, you have to get up as much free roaming dirt and particulates as possible before using it. I use the regular swiffer first and a dustbuster occasionally (I bet the combo swiffer with the vacuum would work great). If you do that and you don''t have a huge mess to clean, this thing works great. It does leave chemical on the floor, which will spot on shiny tile, but for matte tile and other sealed flooring, it works wonderfly with NO build up -it doesn''t smell bad either. The batteries last a long time. The cleaner does too if you don''t spray it all over the place -a little goes a long way. Foe the people who worry about "disinfecting" the floor... you are nuts. One stroll across the floor and the bacteria/viruses are BAAAAACK, and who eats off the floor anyway... babies maybe... good for their immune systems, I say. FYI Steam cleaning the floor doesn''t kill anything. I have one of those too, this is better. I have written enough! Get one and try it!

I got one of these a couple of months ago and at the time was fairly happy with it. I admit that I never mopped as often as I should have and actually mopped more after getting this. OK it was fun or atleast was''nt as much of a pain as mopping. IMO the drawback was the cost of the replacement pads and the unrefillable floor cleaner. In addition it does work ok at getting up spills ect and degreases but it does not disinfect. ALso although I do not have allergies the smell of the cleaner was a bit strong for me and I had to leave the room afterwards because in order for the mop to actually get up stuff you have to use more cleaner than the bottle says. I don''t know if this is because of the west Texas dirt and my own family or what. Instead of a bottle lasting a 7 rooms mine only lasts 3 times in a 10 x 10 kitchen.

It is easy to use but not very cost effeciant so the search continued ... And I found something much better that is just as easy to use as the WetJet but actually cleans and disenfects and you wash the pads instead of throwing them away and don''t have to keep buying the cleaner...It is the BIssell Steam Mop!! which they sell here too.

The Wet Jet is easy to use, works ok and for 25 bucks well It may work for your budget too but again you have to keep buying more stuff for it. Honestly I cannot stress enough however that for twice the money you can get a better product, that works a lot better at mopping up messes and disinfecting and nothing else to buy. Sorry Swiffer WetJet I have found your replacement and you are going to the garage sale.

I just used this for the first time on both vinyl and hardwood. It''s the cleanest my floors have been in a long time.

First, the cons:

1) Way overpriced, and you have to constantly buy overpriced cleaner refills, gazillions of overpriced pads, overpriced batteries (personally worth it to me, but buyer beware.) My kitchen and short hallway completely blackened one pad.

2) Yes, you have to sweep first, as it clearly states upfront.

3) Even with thorough sweeping, I found it pushed a black line of crud in front of it in many places. I carried around a paper towel for occasionally swiping this up.

The pros:

1) It gets behind the toilets no more crawling back there on hands and knees. Yay! Worth it right there.

2) Both the hardwood and vinyl felt very clean, as clean as when I''ve cleaned them on my hands and knees.

3) My spouse will still be conscripted to mop occasionally. But even with my back problems, I can get clean floors, any time, painlessly.

4) It''s faster than mopping. This is particularly true for hardwood, because we normally dry the floor with a towel after mopping to keep water from sitting on our nice maple floor. This step can be skipped with Swiffer WetJet.

Biggest pro: it works. Biggest con: $$$$$

Want Swiffer WetJet Spray, Mop Floor Cleaner Starter Kit Discount?

My first Swiffer Wet Jet finally broke down after three years of use, not bad for a product that you can buy here for $18.99, and usually find even cheaper in stores.

Since I live in Guatemala, I had to wait months for a new one to arrive. Now, I am the furthest thing from a "neat freak," (as mom would readily attest) but I certainly did miss it.

Although, only when I walked...

Even though I had to pay an extra $26 for shipping and customs, it was still an incredible bargain.

Not only are my floors finally clean again, but I don''t procrastinate doing them like I did when I only had a useless old mop.

While waiting for the Wet Jet to arrive, once I did try smearing filthy putrid water from a mop bucket, and I swore never again. I just let my floors get dirty until the Wet Jet finally came.

The criticisms I have read here are ridiculous. People actually complained because they have to sweep the floor before they mop?

How lazy can one be?

I would hate to see the filth on their floors if they never even sweep before they mop!

Yes, the cleaner does spray out a few inches in front of the mophead. I couldn''t imagine wanting it any other way. If you are trying to hit a particular spot, just step back a few inches, dude.

Duh...

It is best to first sweep with a broom, then go over the floor with the Swiffer sweeper which statically attracts hairs and fine particles that the regular broom misses, and then finish with the Wet Jet. Three passes, but mopping with the Wet Jet is just as easy as sweeping no bending, no wringing, no mess.

Just put it to the barefoot test and you''ll be amazed. Walk around before and after it dries, and you will cannot help but see and feel the difference on the soles of your feet.

I also have some allergies, but the cleaner doesn''t bother me at all.

The only negative is that you can go through the floor cleaner quickly, and it is not cheap. However, the pads are hardly a significant expense.

Thank god I got my Wet Jet back!

Brita Classic Water Filter Pitcher (White) Save 10% Off

Brita Classic Water Filter Pitcher, WhiteI wanted a replacement for my old Brita pitcher and I wanted something simple, without the need for fancy-shmancy batteries/electronics after all this is just a PITCHER!

This one was the one most similar to the one I had. However, unlike the one I had before, this one does not keep the lid on when there is water in the reservoir trickling through the filter. This means that you can''t use the pitcher easily while it''s refilling unless you remember to push the lid down with one hand while you pour with the other. Not doing so will result in a disastrous spill each time as the lid will slip off pouring water all over.

Not sure how/why, but the earlier version of this pitcher had a nicely designed fit that this would not happen. Had it been available, I would have purchased it.

This has worked great for me over the last several years, and I have become accustomed to the great-tasting water I get from the Brita pitcher (yes, you will be able to tell the difference!). I have begun drinking more water because it tastes better, and everyone would agree that is certainly a benefit worth my 4 stars... However, I have a (rather small) side-by-side fridge and with milk, juice, etc., etc., on the same shelf, this pitcher takes up too much room. I am currently shopping for another model of Brita filtration pitcher to replace it with a little narrower profile.

Buy Brita Classic Water Filter Pitcher (White) Now

I love the classic because it is good looking and it works well. It doesn''t leak and the top doesn''t fall off if it is put on right. Match arrow, arrow to arrow. When you pour and your fingers are on the handle it is very easy to rest your thumb on the arrows on the handle/cover, offers security and a nice method of handling the pitcher.

This is a two-stage pitcher, I use it for coffee and tea and cooking.

I use a Pur three-stage pitcher for drinking water.

For looks and handling, I think the Classic Brita has it all over the Pur but have learned to live with wanting the three-stage process for some things, wish that Brita would consider a three stage filtering system.

I love our pitcher. We used to have water delivery service, but when the prices kept going up, I decided to try the pitcher. I can honestly tell you that the water from the pitcher and the water I had delivered tastes the same, only I''m saving $40+ a month.

I only wish I had tried this earlier!

Oreck Steam-It® Steam Wand Save 23% Off

Oreck Steam-It® Steam WandThough I appreciate the two previous reviewers giving so much detail, I truly believe they exaggerate the difficulties of using this product.

Overall, this is a "great" product. You will pay a little more because it is an Oreck, but quality construction, reliability, and the fact Oreck stands behind their products make the extra few dollars worth it.

My reason for purchasing a steam cleaner was to clean stone and tile floors, "especially" the grout. Frankly, this unit does such an amazing job with this, if it did nothing else well, I would still be happy. I will no longer have to waste time and money on "very" expensive grout cleaners and sealers that do not work. Trust me, the Oreck get''s grout and tile as clean as the day you had them installed. I have used it on shower glass, the marble in the shower, and a stovetop with great success. My hardwood floors look great, and like my stone and tile, I will never have to buy expensive floor cleaners again.

The two micro-fiber cloths provided could definitely be larger, not sure what Oreck was thinking there. However, the cleaner is designed to use any micro-fiber cloth, so you can replace them anytime you like without having to buy them from Oreck. The clip system with the smaller cloths can be a bit of a challenge, but not so bad once you get the hang of it. Again, you can buy larger cloths at the local Walmart if they bother you that much.

When fully filled with water, the unit can be heavy for some if trying to do a job above the head, or at the shoulders, (yes you can put it above your head without it leaking). However, the easy solution is don''t fill it all the way when doing these type of jobs.

PROS:

Great construction. Large tank, and comes to steam quick.

No expensive cleaners. No chemicals.

Cleans tile and grout making it look like new. Hardwood floors shine!

CONS:

Supplied cloths small, and don''t work "great" with clips.

Let me start by saying that I am a huge Oreck fan. I think that they make quality products that do what they say they do. However, I can''t say that this product measures up. They are on the right track but have several details to work out yet. I already own a Shark steam mop but find the handle to be a little short (I am tall) and it doesn''t hold enough water to do my whole kitchen area with one fill. I was quite excited to hear that Oreck had a steam mop. I went to the Oreck store and got a demo. I commented then that the ''pad'' was loose and coming off while he mopped, and that the head of the mop was being uncooperative during the carpet refresh demo. He made excuses for all so I bought the steam mop. The mop holds about a gallon of water, and has a very tall handle and a long cord. All good things. The quality and construction are excellent. However, the first thing you notice is that it weighs more than your vaccuum. The pad is actually a piece of cotton duck fabric about a foot square with a strip of terry cloth like fabric down the center. Picture a baby diaper from 20 years ago. You lay that on the floor and use those yellow tabs in the picture to pinch the loose ends of the cloth under the yellow tab. I began to mop and noticed right away that the steam production is fast and strong, good, but the mop is very very hard to push. It is heavy and awkward to move and now I know why the salesman spent so much time showing me the shoulder movement I should use to push the mop back and fowards. The forward motion caused everything I picked up with the mop to be pushed into a line of bits and fuzz on the floor so I tried to turn the mop and capture the fuzzy stuff. Immediately the pad came unclipped. I repositioned the pad and tried again. Again the pad came off. I tried to mop around the bathroom toilet, pulling it longways along the side of the toilet, the pad came off. Each time I pulled the mop towards myself, the head of the mop leaves the floor, tilting on its back edge and drags back to me. When I push forward, it flattens out again. The mop handle stores all the water and electronics and weighs close to 10 lbs, the mop head on the other hand is a lightweight hollow piece of plastic. The design of the head is bad because it can''t compete with the weight of that handle and because it is like a box, not a flat pad holder. I could not mop under the water shut off valves behind the toilet because the head is too tall and boxxy, nor under the kitchen cupboard kickspace nor under the door backstops along the molding, all because of the height of the head. Each of these places had to be done separately without the steam mop. Lots of rework that day and lots of frustration. It has a snap on piece for the head that lets it glide on carpet so I tried that as well. Like what I saw in the store demo, each stroke out was great, each stroke back found the head flipping up on its back and bouncing back or dragging back towards me. I really can''t imagine that the tester of this product actually tried mopping or steaming with it before it was release to market. And yes, I tried bending down lower, changing my angle, going faster, slower, none of it helped. It has 2 rocker switches on the handle covered by a rubbery plastic box. One controls power, the other steam. After leaving the mop for several hours, I came back to find that the power\preheat switch light was out, but that the mop was hot. The switch wasnt fully off, just looked like it. Because of the rubbery box around the switches, it is hard to tell if a switch is completely clicked in one direction or the other and obviously the led on the switch isn''t so sure either. Thats a fire hazard in my book. I have boxed this Oreck back up, first thing I have ever returned to Oreck, but it is going back and when they come out with a new improved model, I will give that a try. For now, I really don''t think this design is ready for public consumption, too many engineering issues to work out.

The good:

Great construction, holds nearly a gallon of water, produces really good steam really fast, long cord.

The bad:

The water weighs far to much, handle pushes down so hard it makes the head flip up on every backstroke

The power switches are difficult

It is too heavy and awkward to be used as a window washer or steam cleaner as shown in the commercials. Imagine hoisting your heavy full size vacuum up to your windows or stove to clean with it.

The pad is useless because nothing sticks to it, it just collects anything it finds and leaves it at the end of your stroke, it needs to be more like the shark pad, thick, soft and absorbant.

The design of the yellow pad pinchers is rediculous, they don''t keep the pad in place if you turn the mop head even a little the pad comes off immediately. They are similar to a chip clip and are trying to hold a wet cotton cloth under pressure while moving. Not happening.

The head to too tall, can''t mop under anything normal, and it is too light to stay positioned on the floor when fighting with the weight of the handle.

I''ve had this product a few days and used it on the kitchen floor, the bathroom floor, the bathroom sinks, the shower stall, the toilet, and a plastic step stool in the kitchen. So far, so good. I read all the negative comments and was sort of afraid to try this product. However, with a 30-day return policy, I figured I might as well give it a try.

The Steam-It holds a good amount of water, produces the appropriate amount of steam, and is not too heavy when lifting the item above your head.

It could use a longer and lighter cord. (This heavy cord makes me wonder how much electricity this mop really uses--must be a lot!) This item needs more pads included. When cleaning dirty surfaces, or expecting to do more than one item or room a day, two pads will not last any amount of time. I bought some microfiber cloths at another retailer to have enough for my cleaning projects. They worked okay, but I''d rather have more pads. The pads also shrink significantly, even when washed according to the directions. This makes the pads hard to clip onto the mop head.

When I cleaned the shower track in the bathroom, (as did a previous poster), I found the Steam-It effectively loosened the grime and all I had to do was wipe it away. I think the other poster was disappointed that the dirt didn''t disappear without wiping. That is not what a steam mop will do. The same applies with a kitchen floor. I am not sure what "line of dirt" people are getting. Do they sweep or vacuum the floor prior to steam mopping? That should take care of most dirt particles and "fuzzies" on the floor. Steam mopping should occur after that.

Cleaning the interior of the shower stall doors was a challenge. This is a small space so getting the angle of the steam mop inside the shower took some time. I still wasn''t happy with the angles I ended up getting, but I will give it another try.

Oreck should make a smaller, hand-held complementary product that is more portable for countertop use and use where the steam mop won''t fit.

Like I said, I''m only a few days and a few projects in so far...but, so far, so good. Yes, there are improvements that need to be made, but it''s an okay product for now.

I don''t know what users expect but you first need to understand the premise of a "Steam Mop." It creates steam and the pad picks up the dirt that the steam breaks down. The steam is the cleaning agent and the pad is ONLY designed to pick up the grime. If you are looking for a Steam Floor Cleaner, this works much better than the Shark since you can do a concentrated grout cleaning first and then mop the floor. I have used both and in my opinion, this is worth the extra $100 dollars. It IS that much better.

As far as the comments about being unable to push it or the pad falling off-I have not had either issue. I like a lot of steam which leaves the floor slightly wet however with the ceiling fan on, the floor dries in under 1 minute. A higher steam setting makes it easier to push too.

What this is NOT:

1. It is not a vacuum so the floors need to be free of loose dirt therefore you need to vacuum first

2. It is not a standard mop or spray cleaner mop. This does not use soap/chemical based cleaners which make them easier to push.

What makes this better than other steam mops:

1. ADJUSTABLE STEAM KNOB: You can control the amount of steam. The steam control knob really adjust the steam from a little to a LOT. When mopping the floor, if you put it low, you will almost see no moisture but put it high and you will see wetness on the floor when done (but it dries very fast in my opinion-faster than traditional mopping).

2. VERSATILITY: You can hold it upside down and steam clean your grout in the bath tub or shower--this is a BIG PLUS to me.

3. GROUT CLEANING: The grout attachment REALLY works. Using the Oreck Tile/Grout concentrated spray, I cleaned my floor tile grout first and then switched to the mop attachment and my floor looks EXCELLENT.

4. You can clean counters, etc... but it is NOT light when filled. You need to be strong enough to use it for those applications. It is not "ideal" for counters but it will work. A cannister type steam cleaner would be better for that.

If you are on the fence, buy it and use it. If you don''t like it, Oreck will take it back and give you 100% refund so what do you have to lose. That was the reason I tried it but now I am definitely keeping mine. I love it!!!

When my original Shark steam mop died after about 2 years, I purchased the Oreck. (I already had both one of their vacuums and the orbiter both of which I love). The Steam-It definitely does a better job on my floors than the shark did. I have a lot of ceramic tile. In the kitchen if there were any dried spills, I would need to go over them several times with the Shark and pump the handle for more steam. The Oreck does it in one pass. The steam appears to be much hotter. I also like the fact that I can use my own microfiber cloths. I have a big bag of them from Sam''s so I''ll never run out. It also holds a lot of water I only fill it halfway now which is still enough to do all my floors. I have also tried it on the granite countertops and though I won''t say it''s not awkward, it did do a nice job. As far as hard to push, I have not had any problems and I''m neither young nor particularly strong

GE FXULC Single Stage Drinking Water Filtration System Replacment Filter

GE FXULC Single Stage Drinking Water Filtration System Replacment Filter
  • The GE FXULC activated carbon block water filter produces healthier and better-tasting drinking water and cooking water
  • Reduces lead, mercury, atrazine, lindane, cysts, asbestos, turbidity and chlorine taste & odor
  • Fits most major water filtration brands
  • Filter life is up to 600 gallons or 6 months, depending on the quality of your water
  • Fits GX1S01R, GX1S15, GX1S01C and GN1S15 single stage models

I''ve been buying these filter elements for several years for my under-sink unit. They aren''t cheap $30 at Home Depot. There is a cheaper FXUTC element you can buy for the same filter housing. Seems it''s all about the difference in the filtering specs, and I guess I am a sucker for the "isn''t your family worth the extra cost?" trip.

Another reviewer pointed out that GE sells a version 2 and these are Vers 1. I happen to have a label from a vers 2 element I bought before, and I compared them. The specs on the Vers 1 label are actually lower (better) than the Vers 2. Not sure if that means the Vers 1 elements are better, or if just the performance has been more accurately characterized on the Vers 2 label.

Anyway, I am happy to pay less here on Amazon than buying them at Home Depot.

Expensive but it lasts a year with sensible use. It filters all off tastes from my city water. Composed of a nylon pre-screen, and a compressed activated carbon core. It is the best filtration other than reverse osmosis. It fairly easy to install and remove -not as easy as those plastic housed filters used on refrigerators, but hey its only once a year...

This is a good filter that is the same as what I can get at local improvement stores at a lower cost. With the economy where it is, I always look to find a deal where I can get one. These should be replaced every 6 months to a year depending on the cost. The nice thing is when you click on the item, it states the last time you purchased it. So I setup a reminder on my e-calender for every 6 months to check on the filter and reorder. It does a good job at removing a lot of the odd odors and flavors that are in standard tap water.

This filter fits nice and and the price is right.

Home Depot had it for 29.99. I''ve been buying from HD for the longest time and finally come to my concensus that online order may be cheaper. And it is.

NewCell Water Ionizer and Alkaline Water Machine Save 27% Off

NewCell Water Ionizer and Alkaline Water MachineThis product is AFFORDABLE and easy to use. Give the 9.5+pH(tested). I know K*****, that''s why I give this product FIVE (5) stars. A bit confused about setting it up, but finally got it done (MacGyver Chick did it herself).

Hope you do more advertise for people who still think that more expensive ones are the only Ionizers that work. People who don''t know what Alkaline drinking water does to the body, don''t COMPLAIN! Find out about it before complaining!

It arrived super fast and works well but it was not quite a smooth path.

First from the pictures I thought the cover was steel with a bronzey type finish. No not at all its silver plastic. Rather cheap looking but not too bad.

The installation needs the unit to be on the countertop with a hose running to the kitchen faucet. My view is that is just plain nasty and I decided to see if I could do better to do away with that hose from the faucet. I could but it was not so easy, as I''m no plumber, just a regular office person who decides to take on too much at times !

I wanted to Tee into the cold supply under the sink and run a hose thru the granite countertop and down to make that tee. That hose would need a valve near the ionizer to shut the water on and off, as that''s how you control it.

So the steps were

1. Drill a 3/8" hole in the countertop (took 2 hours but no real problem with the right granite compatible drill bit)

2. Cut the ionizer water supply hose near the ionizer base

3. Fit a brass ball valve 1/4"

4. Other side of the valve goes into 1/4" PVC tube thru the hole I just drilled and down to the water supply

5. The water supply is 3/8" so fit a 3/8x 3/8x 1/4 reducing tee

None of these were particularly easy because I didnt know what I was doing and needed lots of Home Depot trips, but if you do and get some advice its pretty easy.

Thats it hey presto....

The ionizer works well, but to get the full pH10 level 3 water you have to dial back the water pressure in to about 1.0-1.2 liter/min rather than the 2.5 they quote than will get you about pH9.2 at best. So a little patience on the water and its all good.

My wife also loves the acid water (either from the waste pipe or the acid setting for washing her face its made a big difference to her skin quality.

I also feel more alert and better focused. Oh and it tastes great of course!

I had this for almost a year now and been using it since it arrived. it is a good one and have no complains with the water quality it produces. the alkalinity is consistent with the indicators.

This is basically electrolyzing a weak saline (salt) solution into NaOH (sodium hydroxide... aka lye) and HClO (hypochlorous acid). Then the HClO and NaOH combine to make NaClO (bleach) and H2O (water!).

So basically this machine makes a very diluted bleach. Bleach is indeed alkaline, so it does what it says.

If you REALLY want to drink alkaline everything.. you can put a pinch of baking soda in everything you drink from now on. It''s better than the bleach/lye stuff this makes.

I purchased these for our travel to Sweden to see my parents and siblings and it was at the time of the Swine flu out break so I was defiently gonna have them with me. I used them on the plane, at the air ports, in the restaurants and left some behind for my family to use in Sweden as well.

I now use them as I go shopping and put my daughter in the cart. I spray the cart down where us would touch it. They are great sized and I love them!

These are a great size for the diaper bag and purse, but you do need to have something with you to wipe up the excess spray if you are planning on using the surface within a couple minutes. I like to spray the highchairs and shopping carts, but I can''t wait the couple minutes it takes for the spray to dry, so I end up using a wet wipe or burp cloth as well.

I love this product and have used one on my kitchen sink for the last 25 years. Sadly this type of NSA filter is no longer being made. I was SO happy to find one from second level distributor through Amazon. They last 3 years. When this one wears out I will have to make a change and nothing seems to stack up against this unit.
