Premier Zero Waste Reverse Osmosis System

Premier Zero Waste Reverse Osmosis System(not Available for Shipment to the State of California)This system produces a good amount of very clean sediment-, mineraland chlorine-free water with fresh filters, quality is close to distilled water. At full pressure, you can get nearly 2 gallons from the tap in about 5 minutes. Run continuously (once the tank empties) ours squeezes out about a gallon per hour after that. With moderate use and a relatively clean supply, the carbon block and sediment filters will easily last a year. We use it for all beverages in our household of 4, including about 40 gallons per month for homebrewing. I haven''t replaced the RO membrane in ours after 4 years, but will probably do so at the next filter change. So it''s a pretty good value compared to buying bottled or spring water.

However, keep in mind that because it is "zero waste," the waste water will be pumped back into your house supply. This is great if you run the system and then run the clothes or dishwasher, but if you''ve emptied the tank on the RO and need hot water from your kitchen sink or bathroom shower, you''ll get cold water first, then lukewarm after that. Likewise, your cold tap will give you warm water until all that waste water gets run through. This can be annoying.

Second, though you are saving water by reusing the filter byproduct, a water pump is a mandatory part of this system. It remains plugged in to a wall socket at all times to maintain positive pressure on the system, and under full load, you can hear it running it isn''t loud, but it can be noticeable. You also have a substantial ghost load on your house electricity; the external power supply at the socket gets warm and stays warm, as does the pump itself when it''s running. So you''re basically saving a resource at the expense of a continuous energy drain.

Bottom line, nice product if you value super-clean water for your family or hobbies, but there are some trade-offs.

I had the first Watts system and at the end of its life it would waste gallons and gallons of water, literally dumping it down the drain. As soon as I saw this system, I upgraded immediately since the zero-waste concept would pay for itself very quickly in SoCal (due to the high water cost). Since it is pressurized and pumps the "waste" water back into the hot water supply (to use for washing dishes, handwashing, etc.) I hired a plumber to do the install. It added $90 to the cost and gave me peace of mind.

I was happy with the system but was ecstatic once I added the Watts mineralizer. This last addition makes all the difference in drinkability of the water.

I gave the product 4 stars. If Watts included the mineralizer in the kit and explained why it was so important from a health/taste perspective, then I would have given it a perfect 5 stars.

Buy this, but also buy the mineralizer and have it all professionally installed and you should be very happy if you are on municipal water. (I haven''t used it with well water...maybe someone else can comment on this)

Bought this to replace my 5 stage Watts Premier R/O. I actually bought it at Home Depot for $319. The old unit worked fine, but wasted a lot of water. I remodeled my kitchen, and in the process, thought I would replace my old R/O with a new one since it was quite old and needed new filters anyway. I was going to buy the same unit (even though it was slow like all R/O''s but decided on the zero waste for enviromental purposes. Boy was I wrong! This unit has less water pressure and produces about 3 glasses (maybe 24 oz.) worth of water at a time, then runs dry. I have now installed my single Culligan (US-EZ-1) filter. I Just did it today. This one stage filter is supposed to last for 3000 gallons. You can also use the stage 3 or 4 with the housing that came with it, just put in a different filter. The water looks clear (but it was pretty clear coming out of tap) and taste much better than tap water in Las Vegas. Also, water flows continuously and pours at about 3 times the rate of the R/O. I am loving it so far. I will update if things change.
