I live upstate and depend on well water. After shocking our system twice, we still had bacteria in the water. I finally broke down and installed this unit and it worked! It passed the water lab tests and have been very happy with this unit. No more bacteria! Keep in mind you need to replace the UV bulb every year which can run about $70. Also a good idea to install a water filter between the well and the UV system to keep the bulb clean and free of debris.

We can finally drink our well water! Our drilled private well had a problem with non-coliform bacteria. The test result was in the highest range that the test could measure. Over the past few years we tried several remediation attempts with no luck. A few weeks ago we had this filter installed by a plumber along with a 1 micron sediment filter. It looks like it was a fairly simple installation. Just retested and the result for non-coliform and total coliform bacteria both came back with NONE PRESENT. I expected it to be reduced, but I was surprised it was measured at 0. Very happy with this product.

I ordered the water purifier as my well water had some intermittent bacteria problems and I was tired of shocking my well. The product is easy to install and does a great job. I would highly recommend the product and especially the vendor. I ordered a replacement bulb at the same time I ordered the purifier. The extra bulb had one of the pins damaged during shipping. I emailed the vendor Abundant Flow Water Systems and they had a replacement lamp shipped immediately. If you want a good product from a reliable vendor Abundant Flow Water Systems.

Our water supply has been contaminated by a flood in Sept. In the past we were able to treat our well with bleach then retest and get a bacteria free result. Not this time. We went to this UV system and that cured our problem.

Since you will also have to buy filter replacement cartridges from Crystal Quest for the life of the product, consider my review before buying.

Given the choice, I would not buy a Crystal Quest product again. This is due to the fact their Customer Service is terrible! (So is their Shipping Dep''t and Quality control in my case kind of scary!) I bought a similar product from them and it was missing parts. I called them and what followed is my worst customer service experience ever. They continuously reneged on promises made to me (several times), giving excuses when I called in (and I had to follow up myself EVERY time) such as "I asked so and so to call you" or "I was overruled by another dep''t".

I am not alone read other reviews for Crystal Quest products.

UPDATE: I ordered a water testing kit online to test the floride, chlorine, etc content of the undersink water filtering kit and cartridge I had received. Multiple tests (even at super low flow rates) revealed it DID NOT FILTER CHLORINE! (It left .25-.50 ppm of chlorine the same as our tap water results.) Tests on my Brita filter DID filter all chlorine. So, I called customer service to explain and they kindly mailed me another filter same result! I have sent back everything for a refund, since it does not work as intended. Who monitors these water filtering companies? I will be ordering now from a (hopefully) real water filtering company. I hope I have saved someone else the trouble of having to installing this product only to have to return it.

I must have gotten a bad one as it made the water taste so bitter I had to take it off to get water I could drink. i called the seller and they were so nice and thanked me for the feedback. i then called Quest and told them my problem and the sold me 2 more filters for $19.00 but said they had to be custom made. I hope the new ones work better as no other filter has ever made the water taste worse. Even the cheapest did not do that.

No other filter claims to do 2000 gals. like quest so I hope the new filters work as they are cheaper and say they clean 4 times more water than any other facet filter. I''ll make a follow up comment if the new filters work. It''s the best deal but so far the worst deal for me.

I used this faucet mount before. I said it did a decent job if you have OK city water, and just want some extra protection. If you''re in old homes with old iorn pipes or very bad water sources, forget it. Faucet mount or pitcher filters are mostly made of granulated activated carbon, it''s OK to remove cyst, but it doesn''t do much in removing salts and metals.

I have moved onto reverse osmosis already. Good luck, guys.

I used the PUR version for about 2 years. Filter cartridge needed frequent replacement (about every 6 weeks) and was expensive. Tried DUPONT version for a few months. Filters were cheaper but only lasted about 3 weeks. Water flow with both brands was slooow. Found CRYSTAL QUEST on line. Ordered it. First 2 were defective but CQ was very nice and shipped replacements quickly. I have now had it for 7 months. We like it. It was a tremendous improvement over our first two. Replaced first filter about a month ago. Water flow is a great improvement over the prior 2 brands. Now we are updating our kitchen and we are upgrading to a under sink CRYSTAL QUEST water filter system.

I purchased this filter (not from this seller) and it did not filter out the slightest bit of chlorine taste which is the least I expect it to do. I thought I may have had a defective unit but I am seeing that other reviewers have had the same experience. Another reviewer claims to have tested the water and it showed no reduction of chlorine. I think this company is selling filters that don''t work. Faucet mounted filters will result in a slower flow compared to a filterless faucet. It''s just common sense that if the water is coming out of your faucet as fast as before you installed the filter it''s not working! Switched to Culligan which works great. Seychelle pitchers also work great. Stay away from this product.

Medelco 4-Cup Permanent Basket Coffee Filter Save 9% Off

Medelco 4-Cup Permanent Basket Coffee FilterThis filter wss purchased for use in a Mr Coffee DR4.

It replaces a permanent filter from Mr Coffee that had a plastic bottom with the mesh only on the sides.

The Medelco filter has mesh on the bottom as well as the sides, thus the water runs through the filter too fast resulting in weak coffee.

The only suggestion from Medelco''s help line was to use more coffee!

This fits perfectly in the "Mr. Coffee 4 cup". This was bought because the paper filters are always caving in as the water drips through it. So not only is this perfect for solving that problem, but it also is better for the environment. Oh, and it''s easy to clean too.

I was very hesitant to get this, to be honest, and after having trouble getting the special VOC (Volitile Organic Compound) filter to be recognized by the system, I called Zuvo. They were very helpful and discovered that the system I received was faulty. They quickly sent me a replacement system that came with a pre-paid return label. I fitted the replacement system in place, and it has been going great guns ever since.

I''ve tried several filtration systems over the years and needed a replacement after my Whirlpool system started leaking, so I did some research. There ARE filtration systems that filter out more than the Zuvo; however, the other systems even filter out the helpful things and to what avail? I''ve had my water tested and other it''s actually not bad; however, there are some VOC''s and we have had outbreaks of various pathogens since it was switched to ground water. The UV light helps keep the pathogens at bay and the filter and the ozination keep the water tasting fresh and clear. The added bonus of the attractive tap and easy installation all made this system worthwhile.

The ONLY thing I''ve not liked about this otherwise excellent solution, is that the tap sometimes drips after use for a while and that the water comes out a little slower than some other systems I''ve used and sputters a bit rather than a steady stream....but, nothing of any concern.

The pipe fittings are very well designed, I had the entire system installed and running in minutes with zero leaks.

Nice job, Zuvo.

Shark VX3 Cordless Floor-and-Carpet Cleaner Save 35% Off

Shark VX3 Cordless Floor-and-Carpet Cleaner, V1950Do NOT buy this if you think it will replace your vacuum. I have a 2 year old and a VERY good vacuum on hand that I use once a week (though I probably should vacuum twice a week). For all the messes that occur in between (probably 2-3x a day), I use the Shark to make my life easier.

I''m currently a stay at home mom with a toddler and she leaves crumbs EVERYWHERE. We live in a small apartment, so the dining room is a spit''s throw from the living room and it''s almost unavoidable to have toddlers (my kid, my kid''s friends, my friends'' kids...) carrying their muffins, snacks, crackers, pretzels around and about the living area. I got the Shark more because my daughter was terrified of loud sounds and my regular vacuum cleaner, but have found that the nice bonus is that it''s so much easier to lug this one out 2-3 times a day to pick up crumbs right after snack time (and hence avoid having it ground into the rugs) than to pull out my heavy Bissell.

Pros: It''s lightweight, very quiet, convenient, and effective for picking up visible crumbs if used correctly.

Cons: It doesn''t do heavy-duty or deep cleaning; the price-tag can be steep; Shark sweepers are known to break down after a few months to a year.

My mom has an older version of the Shark sweeper, which is much more quiet than this one. She''s a waitress and uses it to tidy up the floor under the tables in between customers. Obviously, she''s subjecting it to pretty heavy use, and she''s now on her third one. Her recommendations on making it last a long as possible: clean the sweeper thoroughly after a few uses (that includes pulling out accumulated hair in the brushes and washing the collection bin) and charge the battery according to directions (do not allow to sit for longer than 19 hours at a time charging, you will reduce battery life).

The Shark Vx3 is a little louder than hers. But I like the fact that it has two speed settings (supposedly for floor and carpet). The handle bends so that you can push it under furniture, which is a little helpful, but kinda awkward and (knowing that the Shark sweeper handles are notorious for breaking off) I prefer to not use it at all. The Shark Vx3 also has a little rotator brush on the side, which is supposed to pick up crumbs as you push it against the side of a wall, but I wish that they had thought to put a rotator brush on both sides. They claim also that you can push a button and dump out the collection cup without ever having to touch the dirt. This is true in theory, but in practice, the lid often catches or there is dirt stuck in the bin that you have to shake it out--so it''s almost unavoidable to touch the bin or dirt. No big deal--just wash your hands afterwards.

The bottom line: don''t expect to replace your vacuum. And here''s the KEY to use the sweeper most effectively -push it SLOWLY and repeatedly over the pile of crumbs that you intend to pick up. I found that if you tried to push the sweeper back and forth quickly like a regular vacuum, it didn''t pick up anything, just pushed the dirt around.

If you found this review helpful, please let me know!

This sweeper is not a substitute for a vacuum cleaner, but it is a fantastic complement to a vacuum. Half the floors in our house are carpeted and the other half are hardwood or tile I use the regular vacuum for the carpeted areas, but I use the Shark for the hardwood floors, kitchen, and laundry room areas. On the hard surfaces, the Shark is great at picking up dead bugs, bits of cat kibble, cat litter, bits of food, and other visible dirt and particles. I run it over low-pile throw rugs on the higher speed setting and it does okay (throw rugs are always a pain, even with vacuums). I don''t really use it on carpets because it''s less effective on them.

The fact that it''s lightweight and cordless means I''m much more likely to pull it out and run it around a couple of times a week in high-traffic areas, whereas we only vacuum on the weekend. I like the ergonomics I''ve never actually used the hinge in the long handle because I''m able to get under furniture just fine with it straight. The head is very nicely articulated I can get into and under a lot of tight spaces without having to lift up the sweeper. I agree with LawyerMom that having the rotator brush on both sides, rather than just on the right side, would have been nice, but it''s not a big deal. I also agree that the trick to using it most effectively is to push back and forth relatively slowly so that the beater brush can sweep debris in; remember that there is no suction as with a vacuum.

Several people have commented that the battery life is poor that has not been my experience. I urge buyers to READ THE DIRECTIONS when you first charge the sweeper and use it there are specific directions about the first charge, and usage (use until battery discharges, don''t store it plugged in, etc.). Rechargable batteries can be finicky, so following the directions will lead to longer battery life. I can sweep 1500 sq. ft. at least twice on a single charge at low power, with a few minutes of high speed thrown in. I have had it for several months now and have no complaints.

Buy Shark VX3 Cordless Floor-and-Carpet Cleaner Now

I really like this thing! I think it''s my favorite wedding gift. We have cats that live in the house and it''s great for picking up loose hair and for cleaning up around the litter box. I don''t think it would work well on plush carpet, but we have berber and it works great for picking things up off the surface. The bendable handle makes it easy to get under the bed and the couch.

Pros:

1. Works GREAT on my hardwood floors

2. I only charge it about twice a week (those who complained that the charge didn''t last long may always use it on the highest setting or the battery may be defective.)

3. Not a bad price if you use it alot

4. Easy to remove & clean dust cup means you never have to bend down and/or tough anything

Cons:

1. Not the best on carpet, but it works good on mine.

2. Doesn''t always pick up everything and sometimes has a tendency to "push" dustbunnies around instead of picking them up.

Read Best Reviews of Shark VX3 Cordless Floor-and-Carpet Cleaner Here

One gets the impression, reading negative reviews here, that a lot of people don''t understand what this product actually is. For starters, it''s not a vacuum cleaner. It creates no suction whatsoever. It will not replace your vacuum cleaner for actual vacuuming.

It is, as i suggest in the title of my review, a powered sweeper. This means it has a spinning brush that sweeps debris from your floor up into a container that you can empty into a trash can.

If you, like i, have a household containing a toddler and a cat, you probably find yourself stepping on cheerios and rogue bits of kitty litter everywhere. If you, like i, don''t like getting down on your knees to manually sweep small stuff into a dustpan, and also hate hauling out the big heavy vacuum cleaner just to get the stray kitty litter bits off the hardwood, this device will be wonderful. It is exactly the middle ground between sweeping manually and busting out the vortex-action dual-hepa-filter 50lb vacuum cleaner.

Some things that might matter to some:

-Yes, if you plow this into a heap of cheerios, some are going to go flying off in random directions. This is because, again, the shark is not a vacuum cleaner, just a spinning brush. If you have a heap of cheerios to clean up, use a baby-steps approach and you''ll be fine (which is to say, drive the shark up to the edge of the debris, then back, then in another inch, then back, then in another inch, etc., to give the cheerios time to clear the brush and get thrown into the bin).

-Yes, it does make a loud ''crack'' sound when you bend the handle all the way down. This is done so you can easily bend it halfway for sweeping under furniture, but have to expend some effort to fold it all the way. Imagine what it would be like if a simple button-push collapsed the handle completely.

-Yes, it does sound like it''s dying a horrible mechanical death sometimes. But not others. I''m not sure why. When operating normally, it is pretty quiet.

-Yes, it is an awkward metallic-pink-purple color, and should be stored out of sight unless your home is 1980s-punk-themed.

Some highlights:

-It really is super-easy to empty the bin into the trash, and you don''t even have to touch the dirty parts of the sweeper.

-It''s actually surprisingly good at getting cat fur off low-pile rugs and carpets

-It''s stellar at picking up cheerios and cat litter, as well as scraps of paper that escape from the shredder and anything else relatively small and light-weight.

Some things that pulled the review down from five stars to four:

-There''s an edge-sweeper-brush on the right side, but not the left side, so if you want to clean right up to the edges of a room, you have to use the right side of the sweeper.

-The user''s guide harps endlessly about proper battery use (only charge when it''s dead, don''t over-charge, etc), but there''s no battery status indicator. All you know is that it''s plugged in or not. The only way you know the battery is low is when it dies. This can be frustrating.

-I have a tendency to push the handle-collapse-button when trying to turn the shark on, as it''s right on the handle where your thumb rests. To actually turn it on, you use your foot to press a button on the body of the sweeper.

So if you''re getting this product to replace your vacuum cleaner, you''ll be disappointed. If you expect a product with a spinning brush to be silent, you''ll be disappointed. If, however, you want a way to clean small clutter in between vacuumings without having to hunch down every ten feet to sweep crud into a dust pan, this product is for you.

Want Shark VX3 Cordless Floor-and-Carpet Cleaner Discount?

This vacuum does a decent job picking up larger particles (like spilled cereal, peanuts, etc.). However, it tends to move other finer material around (like dog hair, dust, etc.). Sometimes it''ll pick up something only to shoot it back out. If you go from tile floor to a rug, it will leave trails of dust and hair on the rug that were previously picked up. We just put up our Christmas tree and had a very difficult time picking up pine needles it would pick some up but not others. This vac should definetly not be considered as a vacuum to clean all your floors, but perhaps to clean up dry spills. It''s a shame because the battery life is excellent and the folding handle, easy-empty dust cup and swivel steering are great features.

DeLonghi DD50P 50 Pt. Energy Star Dehumidifier Save 29% Off

DeLonghi DD50P 50 Pt. Energy Star Dehumidifier with Patented PumpAfter four good years of service, my old Soleus Air CFM-40 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat (see my review of this model also) up and unexpectedly died on me. Searching for a replacement, I happened across this unit at a local store in Michigan. A bit larger than I really needed, but the extra capacity will come in handy when it is really humid outside. After 48 hours of use, I can tell you my experiences thus far:

Good:

* High power blower motor really moves the air around in my basement.

* The compressor is quiet when running.

* Digital display for outside unit air temp, compressor coil running temp and set humidity level in percentage.

* Programmable humidity level 30% to 80% in 5% increments and on continuously regardless of humidity.

* Timer function 24 hour run time is broken down as follows:

1) 0 to 10 hours -30 minute increments

2) 10 to 24 hours -1 hour increments

* 3 ways to collect and dispose of the water:

1) by holding tank -about 1.75 gallon with an internal handle that folds down inside the unit.

2) by larger diameter hose connection out the back gravity drain.

3) Small electric pump inside the dehumidifier to a 3/8" drain hose (included).

* When the holding tank is full, unit has an automatic shut-off feature so as not to overflow.

* Automatic defrost feature -starts working when the air temperature is below 59 degrees.

* CFC free this unit uses R410A, not the older R22 or what the Soleus used R134A (automotive refrigerant).

* Energy Star rated.

* 6 foot power cord.

* Over one 16 hour run @ 67degrees air temp, I pulled out 12 pints of water.

* Warranty 1 year parts & labor and 5 year parts only on the compressor and related components.

Bad:

* Blower has only two speeds low and high.

* Blower on high is loud and on low is only slightly quieter.

* Blower output is fixed straight up. You cannot redirect the output in another direction.

* Difficult to see water level on the holding tank w/o using a flash light.

* When the collection bucket is removed, excess water from the condenser continues to come out and onto the floor.

* This unit uses 675 watts/hour when operating on high (the Soleus used 400 watts/hour).

* Extended warranty is for 2 additional years @ $85.00 covering labor. That is just about 1/2 the price of a new one.

Others have complained that this unit runs hot. Having run this unit for 48 hours straight, in 67 degree ambient air temperature, I do not detect this at all. The housing is cool to the touch. The air discharge is cool. If your dehumidifier is running hot, have it repaired under warranty. I don''t see it with mine at all.

The display panel shows Relative Humidity (RH) when this dehumidifier is in operation. If you press the temperature button, this unit displays the ambient temperature in Fahrenheit degrees, then Celsius degrees. Left alone after that, the unit defaults back to ambient RH in percent format.

Setting the RH level, like 50%, this unit kicks the compressor in at 54% RH and off at 46% RH.

In all, for my use in my basement, which is 1,300 Sq. Ft., this unit fills the bill. Granted it is premature to say how long this unit will last. I didn''t expect the last to give out in just four years of seasonal use. If something happens, I will supplement this review accordingly. Thus far, I recommend this dehumidifier if you can handle the fan noise.

*****

6/12/2011 Update -runs fine, except:

One problem has popped up. My dehumidifier and the plugged GFCI outlet do NOT play nice together. Over a matter of a few hours, the GFCI trips and the unit shuts down. When the GFCI is reset, it works fine again for a few more hours. The past two dehumidifier didn''t do this, so I wonder if there is a small internal short that is causing this problem.

I highly recommend using the built-in pump provision for emptying the holding tank. Running the hose to a near by drain, it is literately a "set and forget" operation. I check the tank from time-to-time, only a small amount of water remains in the bottom of the holding tank when in operation. My water dripping issue on the floor is gone. A much better option than using the drain pan that has to be emptied twice a day on humid days.

*****

5/11/2012 Update

Just started my dehumidifier for the 2012 season a few days ago. Started up and works like a champ, even after sitting unused over the winter. The pump started up at the proper time to empty the holding bucket.

Season 2 is off to a good start. This dehumidifier is working just as it should.

We have used this dehumidifier for over a month to recover from a flooded basement. After removing the standing water, we were left with carpets and padding that were soaked thru, and humidity high enough to cause perspiration if you went down there. The unit was positioned in the TV room and I ran the long vinyl hose to the sink in the laundry room. The controls are easy, set it to pump, then set the desired humidity to --which essentially means the unit will run continuously. It took perhaps a week+ to drive the humidity below 50% given the extensive carpeting and the padding lying underneath. We did not move furniture or turn up the carpets so dehumidifying maybe took longer than it might of. But once the humidity dropped below 50% it went to 40% in another day and to 30% the day after that. We did not do bucket brigade because all the water was automatically pumped into the laundry sink. After leaving the unit off for a day the humidity in the basement crept back up to 50% or so, probably because the carpeting was still giving off moisture from underneath. So I would turn the unit on and in one day it would be back to 30% again. This was repeated a few times. The basement has now stabilized to its normal levels and things seem well. Mold has apparently not set in anywhere, and we don''t detect any obvious odors after 3 months. Reasonably fast, very effective, and easy to use gets the stars. Our single experience (running it day and night for 2 weeks and intermittently after) does not evaluate its durability. But we feel we''ve recovered the cost already, having essentially salvaged our basement property.

We purchased this unit for our relatively damp basement. The pump was the primary selling point as our last unit was gravity fed and had to be elevated off the ground in order to drain into the laundry tub. We''ve been running it for over a month with good results and the pump works well.

The other reviewer commented on how the unit heated up his/her basement, but this has not been our experience. Drier air simply feels warmer than damp air. I''d recommend this unit to anybody who wants a unit with a pump, otherwise a cheaper model would work just as well.

I have purchased this unit over a month ago, actually 2 of them and there perfect and really outperformed their clam. As a matter of fact, I''m going to purchase another. Trouble-free so far and I would recommend this unit to anyone as it has a built-in pump that removes the water upward if needed and I never have to worry about emptying the container as this unit has a hose (that comes with the unit) to travel into a cellar sub-pump system. We splurged on this in July 2010 and were thrilled with the design and functionality (pumping water, gravity not required). It was noisy and ran warm/hot, which though not ideal in the summer time, was acceptable. Until it stopped working in August. We got it to work again for brief periods of time but it would stop working within a day and was running really warm. Today is 9/30 and I''m shopping for a new dehumidifier. If you read the Costco site (where we purchased this unit) you''ll see the terrible experiences others have had. If it were possible to give something no stars, that''s what I''d give this one.
