Aqua-Pure AP117 Premium Chlorine Filter

Aqua-Pure AP117 Premium Chlorine Filter AP-117
  • Micron Rating - 5 Micron Nominal
  • Flow Rate - 3 Gallons per minute
  • Specially Formulated High-Absorption Activated Carbon
  • Triple Action for Dirt, Rust, Chlorine Taste and Odor
  • Chlorine Reduction Rated for 10,000 Gallons (37,854 L)

This is, in my opinion, one of the finest basic chlorine filters and screens on the residential market. I have used Aqua-Pure filters (Both Models# AP110 and AP117) for well over 22 years in our 63 year old house. 3M Company now owns the Aqua-Pure (a.k.a "Cuno") brand and appears to be continuing to manufacture these filters with the same commitment to quality and reliability as before. I use an Aqua-Pure AP110 basic sediment pre-filter mated to the Aqua-Pure AP117 Chlorine Filter under our kitchen sink to provide filtered drinking water. Although the manufacturer recommends replacing both filters every 3 months, I have found that if you are using this simply to provide non-chlorinated drinking water in one location of your house or apartment, you can easily expect to get 2-3 years before you begin to detect chlorine. This is assuming that you are on a municipal water system, such as Aqua America as we are.

Suggestion #2: When you install the new cartridges, be sure to properly clean both canister housings using hot soapy water and then rinsing, especially if you notice algae (green sediment or slime) on the inside walls of each canister-This is no cause for alarm and caused by light entering the canisters. Note: If your canister housings are colored or tinted, you should not have any algae on your filters.

Suggestion #3: When replacing the canister(s), you must also lubricate the rubber "o" rings or gaskets again, using some petroleum jelly or silicone grease before you replace the canister housing(s) back to your unit-if not it may leak.

The results? Great tasting, clean water for pennies!

Hamilton Beach D50065 Commercial 60-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffee Urn Save 59% Off

Hamilton Beach D50065 Commercial 60-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffee Urn, SilverI bought two of these for our church, expecting that the commercial-grade would hold up better than the home-grade coffee urn would. We only used them on Sunday mornings and occasionally once during the week. Two months after the one year warranty had expired, they both quit working within a month of each other. (That was how long the home-grade ones we bought for $20 had lasted.) Since the warranty had expired, I took them to a small appliance repair shop only to be told they could not be fixed. I was extremely disappointed in this product!

We purchased two of these beautiful coffee makers for our church. I have returned and replaced them both and now one of the replacements has also broken. I have only had the other replacement for three uses so we will see how long it lasts! It boils too hard and over, The sight glass leaks, The coffee won''t actually perk and 40 minutes later you find out you have "HOT" water -no coffee. Very frustrating product. Very expensive. Very poorly made. I am out the money...Tired of paying the shipping to get it fixed! Trying a different brand!

I bought this product from amazon a month ago and I am satisfied with the product. The shipment was on time. The brewing time is excellent. Material is good and would last long. Easy to assemble and washable. However, the price I paid via Amazon was $30 higher than what Sam''s Club is selling for the same make and model. I will recommend customers to check it out at Sam''s club before ordering via Amazon.

We bought this beautiful coffee pot for our High School PTO. Used it no more than 7 times, and the dispenser spigot broke while in use. Luckily, it didn''t burn anyone, and it didn''t spill all over the table. But the many high school parents who were hoping for coffee before our orientation settled for bottled water instead. Luckily, we had the receipt and returned for a full refund. So bummed it broke, because all the other coffee pots are uglier!

Sunbeam Humidifier Wick Filter

Sunbeam Humidifier Wick Filter, 1173WARNING: This is the second year I tried ordering what appears to be genuine Sunbeam filters. Once again, I was sent the bulkier, cheaper Protec filters that barely fit and smell bad. This rating is more about the provider than the filter. This year, I''m sending them back.

This filter was supposed to fit my machine and although I had read that they will send a different one, I took a chance. Well, no luck here. They sent the wrong filter and now I am hoping they grant me a refund. Hopefully I have better luck there.

Black & Decker DCM18S Brew ''n Go Personal Coffeemaker Save 15% Off

Black & Decker DCM18S Brew ''n Go Personal Coffeemaker with Travel MugI bought this coffeemaker for home about 2 months ago and I love it! It is extremely convenient to be able to quickly brew coffee for just one person. The best features of this unit are:

1. It has a built in, "permanent" filter which is a HUGE plus. No more running out of filters, EVER.

2. It is fast. In just a couple minutes I can go from sleep to sipping coffee.

3. It brews the coffee right into the travel mug. The unit I bought included an extra mug which is also a great convenience.

4. It is inexpensive!

The only downside I can see is that I would have made the travel mugs a bit larger, but that is not a serious problem. I would buy this coffeemaker again without hesitation.

I have had this machine for five years now so I thought someone might like to here a long term review. Mine does not have a stainless cup, but my cup is tapered like this one.

Pros:

1) Brews 1 cup (I''m the only one who drinks it).

2) Quick, about 2 minutes to brew and 5 to finish dripping.

3) Easy to clean. I have rinsed the entire unit several times.

4) No trash. Comes with a permanent filter.

5) Filter cleans easily. Just tap out the coffee in the trash and rinse.

5) Can be used with a timer. See below for explanation.

6) Takes up very little space.

7) Can be used with other cups. As long as you don''t overflow the reservoir and your cup will fit under it, the cup will work.

Cons:

1) It is gravity fed through the filter so 5 minutes may be too long for some.

2) Be sure to line up the exit spout with hole. Once you get it you will see, but if you don''t you will have coffee all over your counter.

3) If you grind you coffee to fine, you will get coffee grinds on the inside of the machine. No big deal as you can rinse the unit off easily.

Timer:

Once you activate the unit it will run until the reservoir is empty. The only way to stop it is to unplug it. However, if you plug it back in it will pick up where it left of. If you activate it with it unplugged, it will start as soon as it is plugged in. Therefore, if you want coffee when you wake up, all you need is a wall timer (about $5 from many sources). Set the timer to activate in the morning when you want your coffee. Prepare the machine like normal, depressing the activation button. When the timer turns on in the morning the machine will begin brewing your coffee.

This nifty little coffeemaker is difficult to find in stores, so I was glad to see it at Amazon. It saved my marriage because my spouse doesn''t drink coffee (hates the stuff) and there''s no pot to clean. Even though it comes with a huge mug, the coffee tastes best when you use it with a normal china mug or cup, and with beans that are ground fine. I''m on my second one -it lasts about four to five years in daily use. Not bad for the money. I won''t drink coffee that''s been sitting for more than five minutes, so the Brew ''n Go is perfect. If you''re the only Joe drinker in the house, it''s an absolute must!

For 17 dollars, come on!!! That''s like one plain shirt in Old Navy.

Here let me help you out if this coffee maker and you are compatible:

1. Do you drink alot of coffee? If yes then dont get this. Get the six-cup coffee maker. This is for people who drinks 1-2-3 cups a DAY. If you drink more than that it might frustrate you to constantly fill the compartment every now and then. But if you''re patient enough to wait for less than a minute, then get it.

2. No need for those filters. Saves the environment and money.

3. Do you want a quickie clean-up? If yes, the get this. Just rinse with water and you''re fine.

Hey guys, I read tons of reviews before buying this. I liked it because its light, portable, cleans easily, cheap and environmentally friendly (not to mention economically).

There are some negative in Amazon because they follwed the guidelines in the paper. Here''s my precaustions to have a perfect cup:

1. Make sure you dont fill it all with water. Try making 3/4 cups, just to be in the safe side.

2. Use Starbucks ground coffee---it''ll make you feel glad you''re saving $4.

3. You can use another mug or coffee cup to suit your taste. I got a smiley face mug from the 99c store. Some reviews mentioned that the travel mug smells like rubber when they bought it. duh! that''s because its new. All you have to do is wash it with dishwashing liquid. If that''s too difficult, then dont buy the coffee maker.

All in all, Im satisfied with my purchase. This is my first coffee maker (I personally bought) and it sure is very cute and useful. Its super cheap--but the most important aspect of it---IT WORKS.

Dont expect like those heavy-weight and dramatic coffee makers. This belongs to a whole new genre. Definitely not your poshy restaurant/hotel coffee maker. Its just a simple plastic toy-like coffee maker that works.

I think I better go. Im at work and making this review?! What''s wrong with me---I just like my Brew N Go

After using a Braun KF400 coffee maker for a number of years, I decided to look for an alternative that was smaller, faster and easier to clean. I am the only coffee drinker in my household, so I rarely made a full pot with the Braun. At home, I would generally make coffee on the weekends (the coffee at work is fine) and would pour from the pot into an insulated mug. So the idea of brewing right into the insulated mug was appealing.

Enter the Black and Decker DCM18S. The mug holds 15.5 ounces of java, which was about what I was making in the Braun. I''ve owned the machine about 3 weeks now and have made coffee about 8 times. Personally, I find that 2 level coffee scoops work well for a full mug. I ordered from Amazon after failing to find the product in either Target, Linens `n Things or Bed Bath and Beyond.

I find the taste on par with the Braun, although I''d probably give the Braun a slight edge. The convenience of the DCM18S was worth the switch. Just simply fill the reservoir to the full line, put the coffee into the permanent filter, put some milk in the mug, cover the mug and press the ON switch. The coffee will flow off the lid, into the mug. You can also keep the lid off if you want to add sugar and stir. I don''t use sugar, so putting the lid on while brewing helps keep the temperature high.

Clean up is easy. Just empty the filter of the grinds, rinse the filter, and clean out the mug. With the Braun, I had to clean the pot and the two piece cover, plus the mug. Also, the Braun''s warming plate was hot, so I''d usually put a little water in the pot and return it to the plate while it cooled down. Otherwise, someone could get burned because they wouldn''t know the plate was still hot. With the DCM18S, there is no hot plate, so there''s no risk of getting burned by it.

I did try using a Melitta #1 paper filter instead of the permanent filter once. It was a little small for two scoops of coffee, so there is a chance that the grinds could spill over the filter and into the coffee. In my one test, I didn''t get grinds in the coffee, but the permanent filter rinses out easily enough and you save the expense of paper filters.

A couple of minor gripes. While the handle on the mug is comfortable, the body of the mug is somewhat hot if you hold it in hand. The other gripe is that the fill line inside the reservoir is hard to read. I have a Brita water pitcher so I want to pour from the pitcher direct into the reservoir, and avoid pouring into the mug first.

Overall, I''m quite pleased with the Brew `N Go. My rating is closer to 4.5 stars, but because of the quibbles and the fact that the taste of the Braun gets a slight edge, I chose 4 stars instead of 5.

Update 8/13/2006: After using the DCM18S for about 9 months, I began having a problem where the grinds would wind up in the coffee. I use two coffee scoops, but this wasn''t a problem earlier. I''m not sure whether this is caused by the water overflowing or caused by the pulsing steam at the end of the process. Either way, it has happened enough lately that I took out my old Braun and "retired" the Black and Decker.

Melitta MES2R One:One Single Serve Coffee Maker

Melitta MES2B One:One Single Serve Coffeemaker, BlackI bought the Melitta for it''s ease of use and good looks. The first time I used it, the regular coffee was fair and the decaf was bitter. Disappointed, we also bought pods from other coffee makers and stuffed them in the holder. Despite the inelegant process, they didn''t leak and the coffee was a little better. I agree with other reviewers that the the water reservoir is too small and it''s difficut to fill. I spill a bit every time I refill, but that''s me. The unit takes several minutes to heat up to operating temperature for cup number one and the second cup takes almost as long go figure? Also, the coffee doesn''t come out as hot as I like, but pre-warming the cup with hot tap water helps a bit. The tea pods are a waste of time. Basically, the tea''s not very good so if that''s the reason you are buying this unit, may I suggest you look elsewhere or buy decent loose tea and brew it in a pot like the Brits? The best thing we found you could make with unit is a half-way decent cafe mocca. Try this: Get a big mug. Fill with the contents of a hot cocoa pack. Install your favorite coffee pod. Press the regular mug button. When it finishes, press the smaller mug button (that''s right, run water through 1 pod twice). The result is an acceptable cafe mocca definitely not Starbucks but not $11.00 either. As for that elusive perfect "cuppa" this isn''t going to give it to you. Convenient, good looking, but only a fair cup-a-Joe.

Quick Update: I tried Maxwell House pods over the weekend. Stuffed them in the holder and the result, a very nice cup of coffee. Again, pre-heating the mug with tap water really helped. These pods are made from 100% Arabica beans great smell and no bitterness. I like a smooth cup and so far, this is it (I had 2 with Sunday breakfast and my NY Times Crossword puzzle.)

I got a really good deal on the MES2R, buy a box of 144 pods for $40 bucks and get the machine for free. So I figured it was worth a shot regardless of all the mixed reviews.

I like, and almost love it! Its not love because my favorite brand (Community Coffee New Orleans Blend) doesn''t come in pods. However I have adapted quite well to the Melitta flavors.

This is NOT a machine for coffee addicts or snobs. If you know what crema is and care as to whether or not you get it, then don''t buy this machine.

However, if you just need a decent cup of joe to get you going and out the door in the morning, then look for a good deal and give it a try.

If you read the reviews you will find some good tips that I have found to be true. Below is a recap, plus some things I have learned in getting to know my Melitta:

1) Read the instruction book, all that stuff about priming the pump is true and required. In fact, I primed mine several times before using it.

2) If you''re not that interested in the tea, use one of the pods and run about 6 10 brew cycles through that one pod. (Just keep refilling the water tank about 3 times) to get rid of the plastic / greasy taste before you brew your coffee. You will only need to do this once, to break it in. Also wash the nozzle, mesh filter and pod holder really well.

3) If you like a large cup, but don''t like strong coffee, then you are in luck, hit the big mug picture and when it finishes hit the little cup picture and you will have the perfect cup.

4) Yes you can use millstone and folger pods; however you must stuff them in, and be warned you may not get a good seal. If that happens you will have some leakage, nothing like what I have read in the reviews, but some streaming down the front.

Also note, when you using these other pods you will get A) more coffee when you push the big mug picture so you don''t have to do it twice and B) and very STRONG cup of coffee

5) When using the Melitta pods, be sure to put the puffier side down first and the flat side up top. Make sure it fits snug, and you should be okay.

6) If you don''t like Melitta try podhead.com, also they sell adapters so you can use larger pods with less manipulation, but I haven''t tried it.

7) While you are waiting for the ready light to come on, allow hot water to run in you mug from the tap to preheat your cup, or stick it in the microwave for a second if you are a milk user.

8) JC Penney''s sells Melitta pods

9) Don''t expect Starbucks, just expect better than Mr. Coffee... actually much better because it always taste fresh brewed, like you just opened the can or package today.

10) If you give this as a Christmas present to someone, be nice enough to print this review and stick it in the box so they will have a pleasant end result.

Personally I like this appliance and can''t wait until the third generation comes out, which I expect will be soon since they are giving them away now. My only fear is they will be run out of business by Phillips. I noticed SAMS CLUB is carrying senseo pods in bulk, but not Melitta, and we all know what SAMS/Wal-Mart want they get.

This machine has me drinking two to three cups a day whereas I used to only drink one (I now drink decaf for the additional cups) so there must be something to it. Also the ability to have variety is great, I could never do this with my other machine since I was only drinking one cup a day, I was afraid if I brought a variety of flavors they would go stale after I opened them. So I was stuck finishing one bag before I could go to something else.

If you get it, enjoy! If you are very picky about coffee (the way I am about crème brulee) then look elsewhere.

Buy Melitta MES2R One:One Single Serve Coffee Maker Now

Don''t believe everything you read about these machines. They do make good coffee (if you use the right blend) and are reasonably well built. But, the coffee is not coffee house quality. It really is a matter of expectations. I believe the Melitta MES2 is the better choice of the many available in a comparative price range. All one shot coffee makers can leak, some are down right cheaply built and some are over priced, but this is a growing segment of the coffee market and can only improve. I was also amazed at the different filter styles which forces you to use only the maker''s particular filter brand. However, you can get away with stuffing a pod from another brand into your MES2 and it will work. I strongly suggest that you visit www.podhead.com for an excellent, although more expensive, alternative to one:one brands of coffee. And, these great coffee blends are available in filters that fit the MES2. Over all, I am pleased with the performance of this machine and the price (with rebate) is very competitive. Just remember the basics, filtered cold water, a good coffee pod and a clean machine = an excellent cup of coffee.

It''s a real treat to have an easily home-brewed flavorful latte. Although this will never replace one created with the use of an espresso machine, either from a personal unit or from your favorite coffee emporium, it''s a tasty and reasonably-priced alternative. I''ve had a delicious latte made using a home espresso unit, but those units are expensive and require more handling than this one-cup maker did. OK, so you can''t heat the milk in this machine, but using regular milk was fine because the coffee was very hot to start. The point is that the coffee made using this one-cup maker and pre-measured pod tastes much better than that from a standard home drip coffee-maker, the unit isn''t costly, clean-up''s a breeze, and you don''t have to put your shoes on to get it!

The advent of the one cup brewing system has made me a coffee drinker again!

I live alone and retired a year ago, and was used to having my two cups of coffee each day while at work, but since retiring, making even a small pot of coffee was not something that I wanted to do, because of the mess and bother and waste! Of course, having a pot of coffee sitting around until it gets used, always results in it ending up becoming too strong to drink, and sometimes boiling down to a black sludge when you forget to turn off the machine. NO MORE!

Recently, I saw a Melitta One:One brewing system on sale at Wal Mart and decided to buy it. I think it was a good decision!

I knew that the cost would be more per cup, due to my not being able to purchase in bulk, but there is NO waste, the coffee is always the same in quality and taste, and clean up is almost completely eliminated.

Melitta makes six different grinds, all prepackaged and individually sealed for freshness. Other coffee makers put 18 pods in a bag and forget about freshness after you''ve opened the bag for the first cup. As with all other coffees, you must seek a flavor that pleases you, but that shouldn''t be too hard. They also make several teas, but because of the high product cost, I suggest that you use the unit to heat the water and then use a conventional tea bag.

If there is a negative to this system, it is that the product line is costly, at least in my point of view. I would like to be able to buy in bulk, and have a larger selection of product coffee brands to purchase. As for now, we Melitta people are basically forced to buy only the Melitta brand products in 18 pod boxes. Some competition would bring the prices down. Amazon.com has the best prices, and if you buy enough product, can get free shipping.

When I first got the Melitta system, I, as with others here reviewing, had a problem with machine leakage. When the machine leaked, the coffee was stronger because the leakage water didn''t make it to the cup. I experimented and determined that by pushing the pod down in the pod holder, so that the edge of the pod didn''t inpede contact of the machine lid to the pod holder, the leakage no longer occurred. A tighter seal was obtained. The coffee flavor was uniform and the leakage mess was no more.

Also, a tip for users: I don''t like either too strong or too weak a brew. I also want a full cup of coffee, and neither 5 or 8 ounces is enough. Instead of choosing either a 5 oz. or 8 oz. brew, I do both! First I do the 5 oz. and before removing the cup, allow the water to reheat and then push the 8 oz. button, thus giving me a 13 oz. cup of coffee, from the same pod! That suits my taste and gives me the quantity that I want!

Would I buy the Melitta system again? Probably not, but only because of the monopoly regarding the product line, not for any shortcoming of the system itself! I might try one of the other machines put out by other makers, but would definitely know more about which coffees were available and how much selection and cost of product would be. Single service coffee makers are definitely made for me!

Additional comments:

After making the above review, I found that you can use ANY of the store brand coffee pods (Senseo, Home Cafe, etc.), even though they are of a larger diameter and do not fit the Melitta machine pod holder as designed. You have to crimp the off brand pod, using your fingers, and jam it into the Melitta pod holder, but it will fit, and a good cup of coffee can be enjoyed. The secret is to make sure the Melitta lid makes contact with the Melitta pod holder, so that a good tight seal is assured. I know this works, because I bought a bag of Folger''s pods, and they didn''t fit the Melitta machine. Since the bag was open, I couldn''t return it, so I decided to try to make a pod fit, and it did! Thirteen cups of Folger''s later, and I haven''t had any problems making this accomodation!

If you don''t like the Melitta brand coffees, and it seems, from some of the reviews, that there are many folks who don''t, try other brands using my crude product adaption method, and you should be able to make any other coffee pod product on the market fit your machine. If you then still don''t like the taste, there is nothing more to try. Single service coffee machines might not be for you.

Saeco 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker Save 28% Off

Saeco 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe and Burr Grinder, Stainless SteelI have had this product for about 2 weeks and have owned several different brands of grind and brew machines over the years.

Thus farcoffee is good (on strong); clean-up is simple; programming requires a little experience on sequencing (I''ve owned other brands and seem to revert back to old habits).

The carafe design, however, is horrible. Whether filling the water reservoir or filling the cup, it leaks all the time unless you pour at a dribble rate (for the 1st cup of coffee in the morning? Come on!!!). About 1 cup of water seems to run over the counter when filling the reservoir. This seems to be a function of the narrow width of the spout. Should be an easy fix.

Also, the carafe design always seems to leave about 1/2 cup of water in the carafe when filling the reservoir until you practically turn the carafe upside down.

as another reviewer said i bought this despite the reviews thinking that people were being fussy. unfortunately the machine has issues that most people will find annoying. that said, if you play around a bit, you can get a great cup of coffee. issues:

1) manual is a joke. not consumer friendly. not helpful. bare bones.

2) carafe is terrible. all the comments about difficulty of pouring are accurate. to pour without spilling, you need to do it at a trickle. carafe also does not keep coffee hot for very long.

3)i''m finding the grinder to be a little fussy.. if you don''t move beans around with your finger then they may not go into the grinder. there are moments you hear the grinder going but nothing being ground.

4) for some reason the "check basket" light comes on automatically before every use.

all of this is aggravated by saeco usa customer service being non-existent. emails are not returned. web messages are not answered. no live phone reps and messages are not returned. between this and the manual, i have to say saeco has no sense of being customer focused or friendly.

tips for getting a good cup of coffee:

1) use a very find grind

2) set brew to "strong"

3) set machine to grind 2 more cups of beans than you actually need. to make 6 cups -set machine to grind for 8 cups -and fill with 6 cups of water

that''s my two cents!

*** UPDATE 5/4 while I still have the same issues, I did get connected to Saeco customer service and they have been helpful and very responsive

Buy Saeco 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker Now

I purchased one of these with the expectation that it would be as easy to use as other similar brands I have previously purchased. The one I received had a defect in that the retractable metal device that opens to let the grinds through and closes to keep the steam out of the grinder path would get stuck closed and not let the grinder pass the grounds into the basket. The folks at Saeco USA were helpful but didn''t have one to send me to replace it but noted it in case I had a problem with replacement.

Makes a good strong cup of coffee.

Stainless steel carafe means:

1. You had better heat it up with hot water prior to use or the coffee will be cool.

2. No heating element to keep it warm or fix number 1 above the steel carafe is suppose to maintain the temperature.

3. No breaking the glass carafe

I agree opening the carafe is a bit awkward and annoying.

I used to purchase a similar product from Capresse, while it was better and easier to use in many ways, it broke down in constant use at home and at work (I purchase 3 of them).

I have owned a Saeco coffee pot before (the Saeco Aroma) and was totally satisfied with the purchase as the machine performed faithfully for 5+ years. So of course, when I was ready to replace it, I naturally went with another Saeco product expecting awesome quality...BIG MISTAKE! The Saeco 10-Cup Automatic Drip Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe and Burr Grinder is an extremely poor coffee maker at best. First, lets talk about the coffee bean burr grinder. What an awesome idea to have your coffee drip maker automatically grind the beans fresh right into the basket...a great idea if it worked! If I do not manually push the beans into the grinder feed opening in the bin after the automatic grind sequence begins, I end up with a tablespoon of coffee (at most) in the bottom of the basket once the grind sequence is completed. So, if you push the brew button and walk away, the ten cups of water will cycle through the tablespoon of coffee, and you will end up with hot water that is slightly tinted brown with no hint of coffee flavor. Isn''t it the point that the machine is supposed to do it automatically for you without having to stand around and babysit it to make sure you get coffee? Oh, and don''t get me started about the thermal carafe. I mean, the thermal carafe is probably one of the top reasons I purchased this machine as (at least with my old Saeco Aroma) it allows the coffee to remain hot without getting overcooked by a burner plate. My old coffee maker thermal carafe would keep the coffee hot for 3+ hours but this one, maybe 30 minutes tops and then the coffee gets ice cold. On top of that, the lid on the carafe, if not put on just right, dribbles coffee all over the counter and floor while you are pouring it...YUK. To say the least, I am extremely disappointed with my buy and wished I had never purchased this machine. In short, DISAPPOINTMENT!

Not real sure what some of the bad reviews are all about in regards to this machine. No issues with pouring that is not present with any other thermal carafe. Yes the water reservoir is a bit awkward to poor into, but not that big of a deal. Makes great coffee, and allows you to choose if you want your coffee made mild, medium, or strong. We love our machine, and you can''t go wrong with a name like Saeco.

Gaggia Decalcifier Descaler SolutionThe bottle directions conflict with those in the Operating Instructions guide. We adapted the directions in the Operating Instructions guide. Here''s what worked for us:

Remove shower disc by unscrewing the screw under the brew head. Clean filter. Do not reinsert.

Pour entire bottle into water tank.

Turn on pump for 15 seconds.

Put cup under brew head. Press brew button and run for several seconds.

Put cup under steam spout. Do not press steam button. Instead, press brew button. Solution should come out spout. Run for several seconds.

Wait 20 minutes.

Repeat until all solution has been run through.

Rinse by running plain cold water through machine.

Replace the shower disc.

Hope this helps!

Unless I am mistaken no-where can you find how much liquid is required for each descaling operation. The product instructions refer you to the coffee makers instruction manual, in my case a Gaggia, and the coffee machine instructions refer you to the descaler instruction book-this being a programmed descaling operation.

That apart, it would seem to work fine

We were having problems with our Gaggia espresso machine frothing device and, per the manual, used this descaler to clean the machine. I used the instructions from the manual (which were more complicated than they needed to be) and it made a tremendous difference in the performance of the frother. I will use this decalcifier on a regular basis now to extend the life and maintain the performance of the unit.

Only reason I didn''t rate it a 5 star is because there are instructions that came with my Gaggia machine and different instructions that came with the Gaggia decalcifier. Unfortunately neither one really is clear as to how much water should be used just use the bottle and fill your reservoir. Since different machines have different size reservoirs, it leaves you wondering what exactly you should do. So I just followed the directions as per the bottle and it seemed to clean the machine pretty well.

Durgol Swiss Espresso Special decalcifier is specifically formulated to decalcify, protect, and care for any espresso machine--regardless of the brand. The Swiss Espresso Special decalcifier effortlessly removes calcium/lime build-up in all brands of espresso machines: full and half automatics, manual or "pod" machines, even filter machines, electric water heaters, and tea kettles.

I would use 1/2 bottle approx. 125 ml the Durgol pack has two 125 bottles and is a bit more in cost.

Behrens Galvanized Mop Bucket Save 6% Off

Behrens Galvanized Mop Bucket with Rollers, 3-GallonMy title is in response to those annoying commercials about replacing your mop and broom with a Swiffer. I have a fairly large home with hard floors, most of which are tile or laminate. After spending a small fortune on a multiude of new inventions to clean them, I now aknowledge that nothing gets the job done as well or any quicker that the old fashioned broom and mop. The best mop is a cotton string one without any mechanical devices in it for wringing, but my hands don''t have much strength anymore and I needed to get a mop bucket with a wringer. This one is large enough to accomodate my big fluffy mop but small enough to fill in the kitchen sink and not too heavy for lifting it when filling or dumping. It appears to be made well enough to last for many years and was priced well below anything else in the same league.

I chose to purchase this wringer bucket because I love using a regular cotton mop for cleaning floors and the wheeled mop buckets are too large and too expensive for my average sized home. The bucket functioned great the first time I used it, but on the second use the little weld that holds the mechanism to rod coming out of the bucket snapped and the entire wringer mechanism came apart. I''m planning on going to the hardware store and purchasing a washer that I can crimp on the end so that the mechanism can''t slide off the bar. I''m worried though, that as I continue using it more parts are going to break as wringing a mop creates a lot of tension on the mechanism. The design is great and worthy of 5 stars but the assembly of my bucket appears to be on the sloppy side, might not be true for others.

You might ask, "how can a galvanized mop bucket be bad?" Well, let me tell you, it can be!

After searching for this product in brick and mortar stores, I realized the day of a galvanized mop bucket had past. I own one that is probably 35 years old if it''s a day and it works beautifully. I needed another for a vacation home and so ordered it. The price seemed right and the shipping was just under ten bucks so I got it.

When I opened it, I found that it was defective in several areas: 1. the "foot pad" where you stand on it to stabilize the pail to ring the mop, does not line up properly with the other "ringer" pad." So, this means instead of comfortably ringing the mop, you have to litterly stand directly of the pail while ringing a major inconvenience because not only do you get the water all over your feet, you are off balance. The ringer pad is so high up that you need to hold onto something else, like a counter, before you can place you foot onto it.

2. The rollers themselves don''t line up so there is a one inch difference from one end of the roller to the other, thus, the water never gets rung out properly.

3. The finish itself is so bad that if you attempt to touch the sides of the item anyplace there is a weld or screw, there are sharp bits of metal, and if you are not careful you end up with metal splinters.

4. The metal frame also came in bent in various areas. Since the box itself was in perfect condition, I must assume this is how it left the warehouse.

Return it? Forget it! They don''t refund the shipping price, so, I''ll not only be out the shipping costs but my cost to mail it back in which case I''ll have spent almost as much as the cost of the item itself, and then I''ll have to go through the experience with someone else as well. So, I''ll keep it as a reminder that once in awhile you get fooled.

Find someone else to get this from!

I purchased this for my mother who suffers from rumitoid authoritis and has difficulity using her hands. I thought this would work great for her as she could wring the mop using the foot pedal and less stress on her hands. Well....this bucket forces you to stand on one "stabelizer" pedal and lift your foot nearly 12 inches off the ground to step down on the wringer pedal all while holding the mop handel and pulling upward through the wringers. It''s very unstable to have to pull the mop through the wringer while using both feet to keep the bucket from falling over and pushing down on the wringer pedal, so much so, my mother requested I return it because she was afraid she would fall over trying to step on one handle, step up to the wringer pedal, then while doing all that pull the mop up through the wringer. I''m not 70 years old and I had alot of awakward feelings of falling over while using this product. I would not recommend this product. Great idea, just not user friendly

pureguardian H2500 100-Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier Save 13% Off

pureguardian H2500 100-Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier with Night LightLove everything about the way this Humidifier works. Very fine mist. Extremely quiet. If I were to change anything about this humidifier, it would have a way to fill the water chamber from the top. It is a little bit of a pain to have to take the tank off, turn it upside down before getting it too far away from the unit so you don''t drip water all over the floor or furniture, find a sink deep enough to be able to fill it to the top, then haul the now heavy reservoir back to the base unit, then flipping it back over the unit to install back on the base. It would be so much easier to have a top fill and just bring the pitcher of water to the unit.

I have had quite a few cheaper ultrasonic humidifiers, and there''s no comparison. The mist particles are so fine that they bounce off my hand, and my hand stays dry (slight dampness to the hand when on high). This means I have no problems with condensate sequestering on the things directly around the humidifier.

I''ve had ZERO issues with any mildew or bacterial films building up in the chamber(s). It really is clean.

The night light is retro... very different, and just plain KEWL! I rarely use it, though.

Having the warm mist option is nice for winter use.

It''s definitely a work horse, but I still find I don''t need to fill the reservoir nearly as often as other humidifiers.

I live in a very arid, dry, climate, and this machine has been the best! I get nose bleeds when things are too dry, but with this humidifier... nada.

The 3 year warranty is nice too... I''ve never had cheaper ones last more than a year or two before.

I wanted a humidifier for a large nursery that was quiet, good quality and didn''t require filling often. This fit the bill perfectly. It keeps a large nursery humid for what we want when run on low and it has adjustable settings to humidify much more quickly. I didn''t give it 5 stars because it has a power usage indicator 1 light for low power usage, 2 lights for high power usage and no matter what I do, it always shows 2 lights (which is not a problem from a power usage point of view (I hope!), but just that this feature doesn''t seem to work). I would recommend this.

So far I love this new humidifier. No filters to replace which is great. It''s kinda quiet but the blue light on the front when it''s on bothers me. Can''t turn it off. There is also a blue nitelight on it but it has a off button. Overall it''s so easy to clean and puts out as much humidity as you like.

Jura-Capresso 13936 Impressa S9 Fully Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center

Jura-Capresso 13936 Impressa S9 Fully Automatic Coffee and Espresso CenterA couple of previous reviews complained about blockages that quickly developed in their machines. I had the same problem after less than a month of use, where the brewed coffee would drip out very slowly, threatening to cease altogether. I told my wife she should return the machine, but she called Jura''s customer service number, which is printed on the cover of the instruction booklet. The representative gave her a fix which is not mentioned in the troubleshooting section of the manual. It''s difficult to describe, but it involves removing the grounds tray, poking a finger up through the chute and finding damp grounds that are stuck by a screen there. They can be wiped away with a paper towel and that should clear up the problem.

Otherwise, I recommend reading fhimas88888888''s review for realistic advice, especially about the lifespan of a machine. This is my second super-automatic espresso machine, as a Saeco awaits repairs before becoming an office machine for my wife. They make very good coffee and espresso with relative ease and convenience. They''re also great conversation pieces, although by now I find it tedious to demonstrate the machine for awed guests. If you love espresso, lattes, etc., the price of a super-automatic machine is worth it, although you can find one for less than half the cost of this Jura. I give the machine four stars because I wouldn''t want to live without it, but I''m withholding a fifth star because I suspect competing machines are virtually as good.

This machine boasts A LOT of features! It has a dual boiler system that allows you to go back and forth from brewing to steaming without a wait time (although you can''t do them at the same time). It has a bypass doser which allows you to add preground coffee. It has a rinse cycle that comes on when you turn the machine on. You can also program the machine to certain amounts of water to go through the coffee when you press a certain button. You can also have it turn on at a certain time and turn off at a certain time. There is a stylish blue backlight that looks wonderful on the machine. The machine also has a wonderful milk steamer that with the automatic frother and with the steamer itself allows wonderful steaming with ease.

Now my complaints. The steamer cannot get the milk anywhere as hot as my Expobar Office Control (semi automatic) or my old Rancilio Silvia (semi automatic). Also the froth quality is very bad with the automatic air injectors. This machine can only get the milk up to around 160, and after that the foam quality decreases.

The machine is HUGE! Before you even think about buying the machine (and if you do buy this machine, buy it online without tax) go to a place like William Sonoma and see the machine. Also it is helpful to try the coffee that is produced by the machine. The machine looks much different up close then in the Capresso glorified pictures.

The espresso quality is uncomparable to espresso from a semi automatic. I have an Expobar Office Control that was bout 800 dollars. This machine is very similar to the ones that you see at your cafe, with the programmed buttons but with a portafilter where one must grind and tamp the coffee themselves. This machine I get much superior crema, aroma, and espresso quality. When I went to try the coffee at Williams Sonoma from the S9, it was uncomparable.

Finally, the price. This machine is way overpriced for what you are getting. Although it does have some nice features, all of them can be seen on the S7, which is exactly the same machine, just is black and doesn''t come with the automatic frother, which can be purchased for about 80 bucks.

In conclusion.... This is a great machine and can produce a good cup, not a great cup, but a good cup. Spending the big bucks doesn''t guarentee better coffee. Any super automatics in the 500 and up price range will produce the same quality coffee, just some will have more features. If you are looking for a good machine, the Gaggia Syncrony Compact can basically do everything that this does minus a few things (and is MUCH smaller) and goes for about 1500 less. Remember, all super automatics can only last about 5-7 years depending on their usage and care, so remember that before buying. This machine will not last anywhere near a lifetime. Don''t get me wrong, this is a great machine, but there are many others out there that can give you the same convenience, reliability, and a price tag much smaller, that will still give you the same quality cup of espresso.

I purchased this machine''s predecessor, the Jura S90, about 4 years ago. Since no one''s owned an S9 for that long, it''s hard to say for certain what the maintenance costs for the S9 will be, but I thought those considering buying it might appreciate knowing that it will likely require a certain amount of annual or biennial maintenance.

The S90 has one part that needs replacing after approximately every 2000 shots, which in my house means about once every 18 months. There are also seals and similar parts that again will need service periodically. This machine appears to be mechanically very similar to the S90, so it will likely have similar maintenance characteristics.

Over the last 4 years, I''ve had the machine serviced twice by Jura, and once by a local repairman. The cost of repairs was around two hundred dollars including parts each time... My front panel switches are also starting to misbehave, though, so the next repair may be more expensive.

This machine costs enough (and is good enough) to be worth repairing, but if you''re expecting a machine to last the ages without any repairs, you''ll likely be disappointed.

I can''t really fault the machine for needing periodic maintenance, though. You could get a commercial machine with heavy-duty parts for 2-3 times the price, and that would need periodic maintenance, too (though the parts would last longer). Just be aware that by buying a high end machine, you''ve moved out of the "disposable" machine range and into the "pay to fix it" range. "Never needs fixing" doesn''t exist.

As to the quality of the coffee, I''ve tried this one, and the quality is the best I''ve tasted from a super-automatic.

We''re among three people we know who own these now, plus our local cooking supply store; their praise for this machine is universal. The quality of coffee it makes far exceeds any other method or machine I''ve ever used. Why?

Inspecting the grounds that I have to empty about twice a week gave me an extraordinary insight; the grounds have virtually no smell at all! The machine apparently extracts every bit of flavor and aroma from the bean and leaves grounds that might as well be vaguely damp, black sawdust. If it''s in the beans, in other words, it ends up in your cup, and you get the complete experience promised by your favorite bean and roast.

Every cup (and we make mostly "standard" cups of coffee) is graced with a crema that makes the first two or three sips a true guilty pleasure. Every cup is perfectly fresh, and since you make each cup one at a time there''s never leftover coffee thickening at the bottom of the drip coffeemaker. Every coffee bean that passes through the S9 shows its individual character in ways that drip and percolators could never let you experience. The steam wand uses a venturi effect to draw up cold milk and mix it with raw steam to make good, hot foam and steamed milk it''s a strong feature that works very well.

Sure, if you don''t use the included water filters the machine will nag you after every 200 cups to run an automatic cleaning cycle. But the machine cleans itself, for crying out loud, taking all of about 15 minutes every month or two. And every 2000 cups, as I recall, it asks for a deeper cleaning to remove any lime or calcium buildup down deep inside also essentially automatic.

The downsides are few but must be noted in fairness. It''s very loud and the sounds are somewhat harsh; surprising at first. It''s big. It costs a lot of money. Worst of all, once you start drinking this stuff it''s impossible to completely enjoy coffee at a restaurant or local coffee bar. The restaurant probably makes drip, and the coffee bar using a big espresso machine rarely uses the high quality of beans that you''d use at home. Buyer beware: you''ll get spoiled.

And I''m ready to buy a second one for my office.

At first, we were very pleased with the machine. It makes very flavorful coffee and is easy to use. After less than one year, it developed a blockage so we had to return it for repair. This first repair was under the warranty period so we weren''t terribly disappointed. Now, one year later, it has developed the exact same blockage and the minimum cost to repair it is $150. When trying to reason with the Capresso service rep. saying that it has developed the same blockage, the reply was, "sorry mam, it will be $150."

We originally bought the machine when it was $2400 and expect better performance than this. It appears that the cost is the upfront investment plus $150 per year to keep it working. We will not be buying any Capresso products in the future!

Reliable V100 Digital Velocity Steam Iron

Reliable V100 Digital Velocity Steam IronI ordered this iron to replace my piece-of-junk Rowenta DX8900. I sew and quilt alot, so I was thrilled that Reliable was offering an iron that had the option to disable the auto-off function. I also love the dual heating element feature that allows for the production of steam at any temperature setting, and the water reservoir is huge. That being said, I have found the iron to have two major design flaws in my opinion.

1. The controls are poorly located and it''s too easy to accidently change the settings while ironing.

2. The steam function has auto-shutoff. After a few seconds of ironing the steam turns off unless the iron is kept in constant, vigorous motion. It isn''t a problem when ironing, but it''s a royal pain when trying to press open a seam and other sewing tasks that use long straight motions of the iron. I have to constantly pick up the iron and shake it as I go. I don''t understand the point of the offering the auto-off disable feature for sewers/crafters and then having the steam shut off automatically. They must not have had sewers test the iron.

Unfortunately, there are very few quality irons on the market designed specifically for sewers who don''t want an auto-off iron. The Reliable V100 comes closer than any other on the market right now. Overall, I like the iron, but I really wish that someone would design one that simply stays on, keeps steaming, and doesn''t assume it knows what I want it to do.

Although the publicity states that this is made by a Canadian company, it is actually made cheaply in China. Although it ironed as well but not better than my Rowenta 8800 I returned it to Amazon because:

1. The sole plate is made in China from cheap Chinese stainless steel, the kind that stained right away and spread the stain on my trial pieces. Stainless steel is not all the same quality; this one is low quality. I don''t know where the stains came from but they were difficult to remove because unlike the Rowenta, it has a satin finish sole instead of a polished stainless sole. I also did not like the filler, awkward to use and cheaply built like the rest of the iron.

2. It is supposed to have a very precise digital control allowing the user to select high steam but low sole temperature so that the iron will not shine or burnish your clothes. It does have those controls, just like on the expensive steam generators but even on the lowest sole temperature setting with high steam selected, it immediately put a shine on my trial silk and linen pieces, even on cotton the temperature was too high when set on the lowest setting.

3. It spits, very impolite.

4. It is one pound heavier than the Rowenta and it is big.

So it would be a nice $55.00 iron but it certainly is not worth the retail price.

Buy Reliable V100 Digital Velocity Steam Iron Now

I bought this iron because I liked the idea of being able to get steam at any heat setting. It was way more expensive than most irons but the iron it replaced ran super hot and wound up damaging clothes. I was hoping that by spending more, I would get a better made, more reliable (no pun intended) iron.

This iron turns on automatically when you plug it in. Steam generation though does not turn on automatically and you must turn it on manually. Thats really not a problem for me. There is a digital display that shows temperature setting and steam setting (medium or high are the only two choices) but it does not show whether steam generation is on or off. I found that to be really annoying. The only way you really know is when you start to iron, you can hear the steam generator buzzing. The amount of visible steam is much less than other steam irons I have used so it is hard to tell if it is working otherwise.

There is also a way of turning off the automatic turn off feature. I found it worked sometimes and other times not. In addition, the iron is very slow to heat up.

I am hoping over time I will get used to the lack of a steam on indicator. Ironing was easy enough, the water tank is huge and the iron seemed to work well otherwise. Not sure if it is worth the extra money yet.

As an avid quilter I use my iron daily. This is hands down the best yet. For ironing fabric yardage just out of the drier it is a dream. The irons weight seems to melt the wrinkles right out. My husband irons his own dress shirts using the steam feature. He said the water well is big enough that the need to refill is cut down. No leaks. He had done the research and selected this make and model. We used Amazon to find the best price. I am very happy.

UPDATE: 2012 and the rubber of the hand grip is Disintegrating? Do I grip to tightly? I think not. The tiny black crumble dust must not be ironed into you clothes. It melts. For the price of this iron, I did not anticipate it to fall apart.

Want Reliable V100 Digital Velocity Steam Iron Discount?

Got this iron for Chrismas. The thing works great but...the heat and steam controls are placed on the handle directly below where the hand rests when ironing. I found that I was constantly checking to see if I was still at the right setting. The controls are easy to push and I just feel like there is potential for ruining fabric if the temp is inadvertantly switched hotter than the fabric allows. Oops there goes the polyester or silk in the trash. Oh and the iron is super heavy, just shy of 4 pounds. Rather hard to iron for a long time.

I really liked the rubber feet that are on the heel of the iron. I did not drop the iron ever like I have with my rowenta which is top heavy and tips easily. This one stayed upright with out difficulty.
