Old Friend Women''s 441165 Loafer Moccasin

Womens Loafer Moccasin ShoesThese slippers are absolutely fantastic. They are unbelievably comfortable, and the sheepskin is soft enough that they can be worn with socks or without.

The insole is removable and fully washable. It comes out fairly easily if you''re trying to get it out, but the insides of the slippers are fluffy enough that it stays put otherwise.

They might not be the most stylish slippers... but who cares?

When I bought the shoes, I had little knowledge of the brand. My coworker wore a pair of her Old Friends to work, and that''s how I first came in contact with them. Her''s were well-worn and well-loved. She said she couldn''t get rid of them because they were so comfortable. Even with a ripped sole, mashed-down sheepskin interior and a filthy exterior, I knew I''d love them, too.

So I got on Amazon and checked the reviews. There were only 2. One gave it 5 stars, one gave it 1 star. Didn''t bother looking at the good review (it''s good...that''s all I needed to know). Instead, I read the one-star review. Ordered them anyway.

Just got them this morning in the mail, and I''ve just slipped my feet into them. What I can say is this: The person who gave these amazing shoes 1 star must have ridiculously fat feet. They feel like heaven.

I''ve been looking for a shoe that''s comparable to an Ugg (But without the ridiculously overpriced price tag). These are all-that and more (a little homely looking, but definitely worth overlooking once your toes come in contact with the genuine sheepskin lining).

I got the hard outsole so I could "accidentally" wear them to work when I left the house without changing my shoes in the morning. I love the sheepskin lining, I love the removable insole, and I love the fact that the insole is padded. It''s like walking on little puffs of heaven.

No really. It is.

So far my feet haven''t overheated. If I had to come up with a complaint... it''d be that I''d want them to be a little more stylish. And to have a *slightly* roomier toe box. It''s a bit narrow, and I DO have skinny feet. Either way, very happy about my purchase and thinking of giving everyone a pair for their birthday/holiday/whatever present.

Please buy them! You''ll love them!

UPDATE:

So, I have been wearing these slippers almost daily for the last four months, without socks. The slippers are still comfortable, but the arch support has collapsed a bit, which I imagine is normal. Also, unfortunately, the slippers are becoming too smelly to wear! I don''t know if this is because I''ve been wearing them without socks, or because they are closed slippers (not slip-ons), or some other reason. But it is troublesome, and I am considering some open slippers.

----------------------------------------

Ok. I spent a RIDICULOUS amount of time researching sheepskin slippers. Ridiculous. I knew I wanted moccasin-style real sheepskin slippers, preferably with some arch support, and with a sole that wasn''t just a hard layer of rubber. After returning one pair of Smart Dogs, and nearly purchasing a pair of the really expensive ones, I got these today. And... I love them! They are exactly the old-man ugly slippers I was looking for.

One consideration: Several of the reviewers commented on the sizing, that they run rather large. I think this is true-I am a pretty regular size 8, I ordered the size 8, and they were big right out of the box, slipping off the heel. So, if you have a bit of patience and are willing to take the time to stretch them out, then ordering a size down is probably the way to go. Or, as I did, you can tie the laces tighter to accommodate for the larger sizing. It''s really just a matter of preference.

I highly recommend these slippers. They will be one of those items I''ll wear until they are all worn out. An added bonus... I have cracked and extremely dry feet, especially this winter. To my surprise, after wearing the slippers for only 2 weeks, my feet are all soft again and the cracks are about 90% gone. Hope they keep making these.

I love everything about this slipper, I order them every year for both myself & my son. The are very well constructed and have great arch support-I love the cushy insole they added last year-it feels snug at first but quickly conforms to your foot. I solved the problem of the removeable (great for washing) insole slipping out with a piece of 2 sided tape on the bottom-works great! I especially love the way I can go outside in our rainy Northern California winters and not get wet shoes or slip (they have great non skid bottoms)! I have tried other well known brands but never got the quality I find in Old Friend-they are truly my favorites!

MR. COFFEE? Water Filter Replacement 6pk

MR. COFFEE? Water Filter Replacement 6pkSeveral reviews have claimed that these filters are a total waste, blah blah blah. If they feel their water doesn''t need filtration, then I should think they should simply not use a filter and not complain.

Some of us, on the other hand, live in areas where the tap water tastes downright vile--this is certainly the case where I live. I used to buy bottled water for the sole purpose of making coffee. These filters, though, have saved me time and money--yes, they really work! Since I bought the Mr Coffee coffee maker last year, I can use tap water and have coffee without the unpleasant taste of chlorine. This was certainly not the case before.

As to the price, I''ve paid just as much for two filters (as opposed to six) in stores, and what Amazon charges is much more reasonable than any other price I''ve seen for this item on line.

I like my Kona coffee fresh tasting and chemical filled tap water can ruin that.

These little filters do a great job of improving the taste of regular tap water.

Sure, they are pricey, but I''ve found I can go for a few months using just one rather than change it out every month as Mr. Coffee recommends. There are alternatives to them as well, like using pref-iltered water or bottled water, but costs doing it that way can add up as well.

Overall, a decent product if you can stomach the price.

BTW, as of writing this, the 2-packs are actually cheaper to purchase than the 6pk (going by unit cost). But for some reason the shipping is a $1 more for the 2-pack! Solution: Buy 3 2-pack refills in one order and you save yourself about $2 over the cost of buying just the one 6-pack.

I know others say this product does nothing, but IMHO if you have crappy water like we do it really helps. We have really poor tasting water and this filter makes a huge difference. They recommend you use it for 1 month, but we only change it once every three months. Really worth it, you can see the crud collected on the filter too.

When I ordered these Mr. Coffee Water Filter Replacements, I believed that I was getting the identical Mr. Coffee Water filter type that came with the Coffee Maker. What I received was 6 very cheap filters that look like grey cardboard. The company''s receipt states "no returns". What a rip off! I was hugely dissapointed, as it was a complete waste of money.

Product not the same as that provided with original machine. These appear to be sub-standard. They work but are not as durable nor do they seem to be as thick.

Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier with Auto Shut-Off Save 40% Off

Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier with Auto Shut-OffI knew i needed a humidifier, as i''m just not used to the dry air of east coast winters. But after shopping around on amazon for warm mist humidifiers, i was horrified by the reviews. Every humidifier seemed to be loud, leaky, and a hassle. I ended up getting this one because of the relatively low price, thinking that if it was as bad as all the others, at least i wouldn''t have spent too much on it.

I have no complaints.

On the low setting, it''s about as loud as a pot of water boiling in the next room. On the high setting, it might compete with a pot of water boiling in the same room. Every once in a while it gets a bit talkative, but that''s rare and doesn''t last long. I''m a light sleeper, and this unit never wakes me up.

On the low setting, a full tank of water lasts a little over 24 hours. On the high setting, it goes through in about 8 to 9 hours, perfect to run overnight.

The auto-shutoff works just fine, so i don''t even bother turning it off before i leave the house.

It is a bit annoying to clean the unit, but that has a lot to do with the tap water here being less than perfectly clean. We switched to using filtered water, and now the humidifier is actually our way of knowing when to change the filter. When there''s build-up on the heating element, the filter isn''t working as well anymore.

The daily maintenance takes no more than a few minutes. The weekly maintenance takes longer, but that''s mainly because you throw some of the pieces in to soak. It''s maybe 10 minutes of effort, plus however long you want to soak the pieces.

In all, i''m very glad i purchased this unit. (And the water tank isn''t nearly as blue as it looks in the picture.)

I love Amazon because of the reviews. For the most part, the reviews are honest, detailed and very helpful, especially when a true defect or some other "quirk" is described. However, many of the reviews for this item are really...bizarre! I have to wonder what some of these reviewers were actually thinking. Also, are they are realistic in their expectations? It is what it is an inexpensive humidifier. It WILL make some noise, It will NOT humidify your entire house, it WILL require cleaning and care, it will NOT last forever, etc.

1) This item is being shipped from a warehouse to your home. If it arrives broken, cracked, leaking or damaged in any way, contact Amazonthey offer one of the best return policies around. This is an issue with whoever shipped it, not a reason to leave a one-star rating.

2) This is a HUMIDIFIER and uses tap water and electricity to create a heated mist. Should you be horrified to find mold or mildew? NO. Does it require regular maintenance and cleaning? YES. There is no way around it. If you allow water to sit, mold will grow. If you use tap water, there is a good chance you will have mineral deposits. Inspect the humidifier each time you fill it.

When you re-fill the tank, give it a good rinsing out. It if smells, add a teaspoon of bleach, swish it around and dump it out.

If it has deposits around the heating element, pour vinegar into the bottom, let it sit for a few hours, take a small toothbrush to it and rinse it out.

If it has deposits on the plastic pieces, remove them from the unit and soak them in vinegar, same as above. It is not difficult to disassemble at all.

It is a fact of life, humidifiers need to be cleaned and maintained.

3) This is a very INEXPENSIVE humidifier. Is it helpful to compare it to a humidifier that costs 5x as much? NO. That is like comparing a Toyota Corolla (MSRP 25K) to a Bentley Continental (MSRP 175K).

4) This is an electrical device. Like anything that uses electricity, it has the potential to start a fire. Even though it has an automatic shut-off, I wouldn''t bet my house on it. Pay a little attention to it and treat it like any other electrical device.

5) Seriously, having to carry it by it''s handle with the plug on top is a big issue? Would you carry a bottle of water (or any liquid with a screw cap, for that matter) upside down? As for the leaking, screwing the cap on tightly and carrying it by it''s handle would probably help.

6) Will it last for a lifetime? NO. Does any inexpensive product last beyond a few years? NO. Will the gaskets dry out if it is stored for long periods of time? It''s entirely possible. Again, this is an INEXPENSIVE humidifier.

BOTTOM LINE: It is very reasonable priced, does a good job and lasts a couple of years if you take care of it. I am about to make my 4th purchase of this exact humidifier. I read the reviews to see if anything changed or if a better, similarly priced unit was introduced into the market. The answer is NO. This is the best deal for the money.

****UPDATE**** 11/19/2011 Almost one year later, last week I pulled out the humidifiers and gave ''em a nice, thorough cleaning, set ''em up and they are working perfectly. I am going on at least my 5th New England winter with the first one I bought, and it still works like new whisper quiet, zero leaking, couldn''t be happier for the price! From the looks of it, Amazon''s price hasn''t changed much either (although it does fluctuate day-to-day). It''s still the BEST YOU"LL FIND in this price range!

Buy Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier with Auto Shut-Off Now

I purchased the vicks cool mist humidifier (v3100) while visiting my family out west for the holidays. I had a sore throat and that mixed with the heater running and the already very dry air and i was getting up to get a drink 4 times a night. the first night i spent with the humidifier i didn''t get up at all. i decided to leave it there and use it every time i visit, summer or fall. and i liked having a humidifier so much i bought a warm mist one, the v745a for my midwest apartment. here is a comparison of the two.

i bought the cool mist for the desert because it was cheaper and will only be used a few weeks a year but will be both summer and winter. it does blow a lot of cool air and will be especially nice in the summer. some people found it quite loud but i thought it was reasonable and used it on the high setting. but i am also used to sleeping with a fan on during the summer. i liked the fact that its shape is lower to the ground making it difficult to tip over. and the seal for the water tank is easier to open and close all the way to prevent leaks. but even after one week''s use at night the filter is already more yellow than i expected. if i was using it every day i would have to change it very regularly. it also does move a lot of air like i said before, but the vents are low and it seemed like it was blowing all that moist air right under the bed.

i bought the warm mist humidifier for my apartment because i will only be using it in the winter and didn''t want the cold air when my heater is aready working so hard. and i figured it would be more useful during cold season because of the attached medicine cup. it is also for medium/large rooms while the cool mist is for smal/medium so i could move it to my living room if needed. and because i saw the filter on the cool mist got so dirty so fast i liked the fact that this one had no filter, no parts to replace. just weekly cleaning. and the cost difference between this one and the cool mist is about the cost of one filter replacement. it makes very little difference in terms of air temperature, does not heat it up as much as i thought it would, vs the cool mist which did make the room quite a bit cooler. i like the fact that the steam comes out of the top instead of under the bed and it is more quiet than the cool mist even when on the high setting. it does have automatic shut off so i don''t have to worry about it boiling dry. i did some research online about warm vs cool humidifiers before purchasing them, and many recommended cool mist for children because of burn risk from using the warm. even after being on all night the unit is cool to the touch and it has a cooling chamber so even the steam that comes out is unlikely to burn. the only way i think a child could injure themselves with this unit would be if they tipped it over, took it apart and touched the actual heating unit because of the auto shut off. my husband guessed the warm mist might take more electricity to run but we''ll have to see about that.

overall i am a little happier with the warm mist because i need it for winter, it is quieter and needs to filters replaced. but they are both excellent and inexpensive and once you get one you will wonder why you waited so long. (and by the way the cool mist is $29.99 at target and the warm is $34.99, sorry amazon)

Yesterday I went downtown to look for a humidifier for my bedroom. What I thought would be an easy project turned into one of frustration. I wound up going to three different drug stores to try to get an idea of what to buy. Most of the humidifiers I saw were by Kaz (Vicks), who makes many different models. To make choosing a model supposed easier, somewhere along the line the company put a graph on only some of their model''s boxes to indicate which model to buy based on your needs. (I wanted it for colds and flu). This graph was at one point changed and updated. But the problem is that Kaz doesn''t label their boxes too well as to what model applies to the graph. From what I can tell it is these newer graphs that grade their humidifiers as Best, Better, Good or nothing depending upon the purpose intended. But if you are trying to choose between warm or cool all Kaz tells the consumer is some people prefer the warm mist to the cool mist while some don''t. How this is supposed to help the consumer decide I''ll never know.

Anyhow, I wound up with this model (v745A) because it was supposed to be all purpose and being the winter here in the NE I thought warm rather than cool mist would be better. An added benefit with the warm mist is that you can add an inhalant and with my current cold that would help. I did have some concerns about whether this unit would be enough for my 16x16x10 room. Kaz only labels some of their boxes with the size room the unit is good for but this one does not say. All my observances below were made using this unit on the high setting.

BUILD: The unit itself is built OK nothing more (and I didn''t expect more) but seems a little flimsy.

NOISE: OK, the noise. Come on people, this device boils water for steam, hence the name "Warm Mist". You should not expect this to be absolutely silent so stop whining. And for those of you with the "Princess and the Pea" syndrome do NOT buy it. But for those who want an idea of what it sounds like from 3 feet away think of it is like the sound of a rainy day or it is like having an aquarium in the room. It is not loud at all (certainly no louder than a fan on low speed) and could be soothing to those who like white noise.

PERFORMANCE: This unit does humidify my bedroom but it does take a while to have its effect, so I would start it before I went to bed. The amount of mist that comes out is probably not as great as if you were boiling water in a soup pan. [Please do not have unrealistic expectations: your room will not to turn into a steam bath and you will not see the mirrors fog up as they do in the bathroom.] Ideally, two of these in my room would probably suit it better. I can not say that the added inhalant has a great effect. I can smell it in the mist as it is coming out right above the unit but would not be aware of it otherwise. Incidentally, Vicks makes a personal model of these, but I would skip it in favor of this one because you could just breath in the vapors as it comes out of the top of this unit for the same effect.

CONCLUSION: Overall I am OK with this purchase. Frankly, I don''t see how anyone could "love" this device or anything like it. It does what it does. I am not sure if another model would have been better. Kaz really needs to make choosing between these models easier. Having used it now I would only recommend a WARM mist for winter use (when most colds and flu occur). It would be too warm and uncomfortable at other times. I have not had it long enough to test its durability.

I bought this little guy because this winter was brutal for sore throats, nose bleeds, and static electricity in my little home in upstate NY. The rabbit was going around looking like a charged puffball, giving off actual sparks. The cats cringed when I went to pet them, and I was simply miserable myself. I''m probably overworking the poor thing, but the sore throats have backed down, the cats are letting me pet them again.. and although the rabbit still looks like a static charged puffball, he''s at least not giving off any sparks.

When I say "overworking", I mean that I''m using it to humidiate (I know, no such word, but it sounds good!) my entire 900+ square foot house, 24/7. So I don''t expect miracles out of it, but any relief is... well, a relief. I use it on the Low setting, and it is not loud enough that it bothers me. Sounds a little like a muffled pot of boiling water. Had it on High once and it sounded like a slightly LESS muffled pot of boiling water. If you are a light sleeper and bothered by any noises, you might not want it in your bedroom, but I personally find it a rather comforting sound. Then again... it''s not in MY bedroom.

I LOVE the fact that the tank has handles on both ends. I have fibromyalgia, and if there''s a way to drop something, I can drop it. Two handles will cut that chance down just that much more. I also love that parts of it can go in the dishwasher. In fact, that was one of the reasons why I bought it hey, it goes in the dishwasher! That and no filters! They saw me coming!

Down-side only PARTS of it go in the dishwasher. The cooling chamber, medicine cup, and water tray CAN go in the dishwasher. The tank CAN''T. To disinfect the tank, you have to soak it in a bleach/water mixture. They recommend doing that once a week. Also, the water tray and heating chamber need to be soaked in vinegar once a week to remove any scale build-up. THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU HAVE HARD WATER. In fact, I''d recommend it MORE than once a week. I do have hard water, and I saw build-up in just two days. And just soaking and wiping didn''t do it I took a toothbrush to it.

I noticed several reviews saying theirs broke down rather quickly. If they didn''t do the vinegar treatment or didn''t do it often enough, I could certainly see WHY it would break down.

Other nifty things. It has a night-light! Also, on the Low setting, one tank lasts me almost 24 hours. And in case I do forget to watch, it also has an automatic shut-off. Like I say, they saw me coming.

So yeah, I love it. But ya gotta clean it. And probably often. But my cats love me again. And the rabbit? Well... a piece of papaya goes a long way towards making amends with him.

Edited to add:

Here we are, a few years later, and I recommended this to my mother. Warned her about the "YOU HAVE TO CLEAN IT EVERY WEEK. AT LEAST" factor. In fact, I warned her repeatedly.

Granted, she''s always frantically busy, so I can kinda understand what happened next... She called me and told me that it had cracked and sprung a leak three weeks after she had bought it.

She hadn''t cleaned it.

So there you have it. Proof positive. I used my constantly over the winter. Cleaned it every week. No damage.

She had it three weeks. Didn''t clean it. It bled a full tank of water all over her kitchen.

Woe.

It''s coming up winter, and the rabbit is sending off sparks again. Time to dig this out and fire it up. Or is that.. water it up?

  • Provides clean water for the entire home
  • 26,000 -Gallon rating
  • 7.0 gpm recommended flow

We purchased this as a pre-filter for a water softener and for removal of chlorine from our city water supply. It does both well. It was fairly easy to install. Seems larger in person than in pictures. Much bigger than a 10" model. I purchased a large angle bracket from Lowes and lag bolted it to the wall for support. I''m estimating a cartridge lifespan of about six months based on our water usage. We''ve been using it for a couple months now. Our showers and baths no longer smell like a swimming pool. Our skin doesn''t feel as dried out and itchy as before. The replacement cartridges are reasonable (about $45) here on Amazon.

Purenex asked me not to review this until they could make amends. It''s been months now,so I''ll share my experience

This arrived with no instructions,I''ve had 30 years experience in the piping industry, what could go wrong?

The specs say 1" IPS in and out, they neglect to say it is a non tapered pipe thread. So a trip to the hardware store to find a solution, there I found a ten pack of O-rings that worked.

The bracket took a little thought, but became obvious.

In the process of removing the filter housing,I got a little wet,so I had to drill and tap for a pet cock for draining the filter.Of course another trip to the hardware store.

I''m really not sure if it filters my well water yet,I think it has improved some.

For the price,it''s O.K.,but a little bit of instruction could have made this a one day job,but it took much longer. The filter I was replacing came with adapters and installation sheet, these folks should have also.

I did find another use for an O-ring,so some good came of it.

  • Chrome, long-reach, Lead-Free faucet. (Meets CA req.)

It makes me so sad that I have to leave such an awful review, and I''ve contacted the seller many times giving them an opportunity for another solution, but they''ve given me no choice. I purchased this item in August 2010 hoping for floride/chlorine free safe drinking water. When I received the unit, I unpacked it, checked the "easy" instructions and after several hours of frustration, called our handyman. It took him 4 hours and two trips to the hardware store to buy parts. Wasn''t a cheap install.

After installation, I began using the water for drinking, and also used it to fill our fountain. Our fountain immediately rusted and I grew concerned. I contacted the seller and they told me that they wouldn''t recommend the water for contact with metal but that it''s "totally safe" to drink. Really? I ordered a water test kit and found that the PH in the filtered drinking water was 4.5. I emailed the seller, scared to let my children drink the water after doing more research and finding that water with this PH was NOT recommended for drinking! Instead of letting me return the unit, they offered to sell me a part for $119 to rectify the problem. WHAT??? I decided to add minerals and lemon slices to the water and though still frustrated, didn''t want to invest more into this system.

A month later, I noticed that the unit was leaking out of one of the cartridges. I called a plumber out who told me that the unit was defective and to return it. I contacted the sellers and was told that they recall no other correspondence and that they could not accept the return. I had to pay to have the unit removed as it was destroying my cabinetry...more expense. Now, it sits in my garage... I offered to pay for the return shipping and eat all of in installation and uninstallation costs ($400) later plus a ruined fountain...and they simply refused to respond.

Do NOT do business with this company! I also recommend that Amazon no longer allow them to sell.

This seems to be a great RO system once you figure out how to install it... The instructions that come with it are pretty poor. If you aren''t familiar with a modest amount of plumbing, have someone else install it for you.

A few clues to make this go easier for you:

Not all the fittings that come with the system will necessarily work with YOUR current plumbing.

The color coded tubes didn''t match the instructions. This doesn''t matter EXCEPT FOR ONE: there is one tube with a little restricted fitting inserted. This is for your waste line. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO GET THE SYSTEM TO OPERATE! This is what creates the back pressure for the system.

Looking from the front,

Your water input to the filter (from your cold water line) goes to the bottom right fitting (into the first big filter, it is labeled "IN" above the fitting.

Just above that is a "T" fitting, the open port goes to your tank.

They send a shutoff valve that goes on top of the tank that the nylon tube goes into.

On the left side of the membrane (lower horizontal cylinder) are 2 fittings, one used already, the other one goes to your drain (use the saddle valve provided).

The last tube goes on the left side of the top cylinder (your final filter) goes to your faucet.

Tips for your waste line:

IF you use an air gap faucet (required in some places, prevents drain backups from going into the RO system), the drain restrictor won''t fit on the faucet end so turn the tube around and have the restrictor in the fitting towards the RO membrane. To use an air gap faucet, you will need to do some creative plumbing to get the different size tube from the faucet to your drain. There are 3 ports on the faucet (1 on a normal faucet), 1 for clean water from your final filter, 1 normal sized coming from your membrane, and one larger tube to go to your drain. I got my faucet at my local plumbing supply house. (Home Depot didn''t have one). The air gap faucet does "burble" for a while after using the water but I consider it a small price to pay to make sure my system stays clean.

Tips for starting up your system:

When I first connected my system, I connected the water line to the input. I disconnected the tube from the leftmost carbon filter and attached a different tube and ran it into my sink. I turned the water on and flushed the excess carbon out of the filters for 5 minutes. This way all that carbon didn''t get into my tank and RO membrane. I have no evidence, but I believe this will extend the life of my membrane a little. After connecting everything, I turned the system on and nothing came out. It took about 10-20 minutes for the system to build enough pressure to come out of the faucet. I followed the instructions and ran about 10 gallons through the final filter before using the water.

I also added a quick connect "T" in the line going to my faucet AFTER flushing the system of carbon and ran one side to my faucet and the other to my refrigerator so I have clean ice and cold water. I did the flush first so I wouldn''t have to flush the carbon through my ice maker for who knows how long. When I replace the final carbon filter, I will disconnect my fridge until after I flush it again.

Also, since you are stripping your water of most or all of the minerals, please get some good quality liquid trace minerals to add back in with every glass you drink. Our bodies are meant to get a significant amount of minerals from our water.

Enjoy!

UPDATE 10/16/12

My water bills have gone up significantly as of late and this filter unit was the culprit. My bills kept going up over the summer so I thought it was watering but now that watering season is over my bills kept going up, last month $193! It was using almost 500 gallons of water per day. I diagnosed it because I put a really good shut-off valve on the input line and as soon as I cut it off my water meter stopped spinning. I don''t know what the defect is but please watch your water consumption with this filter.

I am pleased with the quality of the filter system and the quick shipping. I was very unhappy with the instructions for installation that were pretty much useless. No hose diagram or explanation as to how to install. I spent two days on the internet looking for a hose diagram and finally found a feedback site for this product and another customer had to get a plumber to explain how to install and he shared the instructions in his review, without his help our filter would still be sitting in the box. Once the filter was installed I was amazed at the difference in our water quality. Happy with the product, UNHAPPY with the lack of instructions for this unit.

5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System With Storage Tank Removes Fluoride

Even though I suspected that this seller has had issues with missing parts in the past, I ordered the item. Mea culpa!

Sure enough, the so-called "No. 1" locking push-cap intended to secure a tube to the No. 1 port was missing. This makes the ENTIRE device inoperable! And, I triple-checked the packaging!

Furthermore, the assembly instructions are poor with no page numbers (required) to which to refer, as one example. Fortunately, I have put a unit VERY similar to this one (All purveyors apparently use the same supplier.) from another source, and so this was not too much of an impediment. A newbie will have trouble.

Failing a VERY quick response, I will discuss this problem with my Credit Card company, read: will demand full credit.

The shipping charge for this product is high; high enough so that the seller has an obligation to provide good Quality Assurance that will assure an ability for me to use the product quickly without this kind of folderol.

Being made off-shore doesn''t help, either.

I will expect the missing part, tout suite, and some monetary compensation for my trouble and delay in using this item. Plan on it!

Finally, Amazon''s excellent reputation has been sullied; it''s time to drum this seller out of the family. Others that sell the same item for slightly more money are apparently better at providing a quality-packaged product.

OK on your agreeing to send the missing part.

When will it arrive? How is it being sent?

What about demanded monetary compensation?

What about other comments?

Your response was not particularly responsive. If you want to garner customers, this is NOT the way to do it.

The 5 stage RO system was from Purenex but nowhere on the unit was any Brand name displayed. The mounting holes had rust around them that look like the unit had been mounted before. The instructions were not for this piece of equipement but were generic in nature. The product was also missing the drain flow restrictor with out which the unit does not operate. There was no contact information with the shipment; no phone no., customer contact, web site...nothing. I found Purenex on the internet and it said it was a 1 man operation in N.Y. I had to go through Amazon to get the contact information and even they didn''t have a phone number. Amazon does allow you to e-mail the seller through them which worked well but was complicated somewhat.

Once I was able to get the message to Purenex they responded the same day with shipping information for the restrictor. The unit was not difficult to install and functions but doesn''t come close to delivering the amount of water advertised. And yes, all the lines are connected correctly and the tank pressure is 7-8 lbs. I would not buy this system again.

Hope this is helpful.

Zero Water ZR-017 2 Pack Replacement Filter

Zero Water ZR-017 2 Pack Replacement Filter
  • Zero Water Filter
  • Meets the FDA definition for purified bottled water
  • Activated carbon infused micron cloth
  • Multi-layer system using activated carbon and oxidation reduction alloy
  • Comprehensive ION EXCHANGE array

I''ve used these for 3 years now. And each filter lasted at least 3-4 months.

Zero Water is now selling a different version (If only I could get the straight ones like these).. they are tapered at the bottom. They last about 1 month.

In addition, even overnight, the water does not filter through I''ve had to hold the tank up and make sure there''s no air bubbles caught in the filter.

Big thumbs down used to be a great product. Now I''m looking for the old type filters (the ones that look like these in the picture) and simultaneously alternatives for filtering water.

When they changed the style of the filter the resultant water flow has decreased. It can now take hours for the water to drain through the filter. We are using the filters in a ZeroWater Bottle filtration system that is supposed to replace 5 gallon bottles. I will be looking for another type of filtration system. I have decided that filtered water that sits in plastic isn''t very good for me anyway, and since this has become frustrating it is time to switch.

I''ve had zero technology for over 10 years on our counter over the years has changed canisters and shape of filters but never lost its worth with us we keep coming back for more and will never get rid of it.

Love these ... will keep getting them for our pitcher. They last longer than other filters so far and works very well.

Jura-Capresso 13187 Impressa E8 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine

Jura-Capresso 13187 Impressa E8 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine, BlackI have to say, I *love* my E8! I tried one at a store and, after a lot of research, settled on Jura Capresso because of the cleaning cycle feature (most others you have to remove the "brew group" once a week or so and manually clean it I was *so* not going to do that!). I settled on the E8 versus other JC''s because of the price and the features... the higher-end models'' extra features (none of which directly affect the quality of a single cup) were worth the additional cost, especially since I live alone.

I''ve no complaint about the temperature of the coffee, as long as I pre-heat my cup. A little hot water out of the spiget does the trick. I use a decent coffee bean from a local store and have excellent results. I did have to play around with the grind settings, but I expected that.

The frother (I don''t have the fancy add-on) does a better-than-decent job of frothing/foaming milk; however, it''s not as good as a coffee-house machine wielded by a pro, with perfect-temperature milk and a cold pitcher. However, it works much better than any home-based espresso machine I''ve encountered, and much better than what one often gets from a disaffected coffee counter person.

The flavor is rich and full like cafe crema or espresso ought to be. While, again, a true barista with a true pro machine and the best beans can indeed produce a better cup, this is far better than what I typically get in a high-end coffee shop. That''s part of what originally sold me on it I found out the store that I sampled it at used "cheap supermarket beans" (as they put it).

One does have to be careful with the beans; if they''re oily, they''ll cling to each other and not make their way down the hopper. The solution? Stick your finger in the beans and swirl once, or don''t use oily beans (oily doesn''t necessarily mean more flavor). I like the beans I use but they do stick slightly, and a little touch with my finger fixes the ''problem''. The manual, video, web site, and talking chicken that came with the product makes this very clear.

Cleaning is a breeze every couple of days I empty the hopper that catches the pucks (grounds). Once a week or so I rinse out the drip tray. Every once in a while it alerts me that I need to run a cleaning cycle: in goes the tablet and that''s it.

My only complaint and I knew this going in is that for $1000 it ought not be 100% plastic. The spigot that the coffee comes out is plastic, and raises/lowers. I''m always careful, because if something that I have control over is going to break, it''s going to be this piece. More expensive models have metal for this piece, but I couldn''t see adding $500+ dollars for this.

I was originally concerned not having a cup warmer might be an issue. It says it has a passive cup warmer in some of the online literature, but that''s baloney the top doesn''t get any warmer than rooom temperature. However, it is no inconvenience (and I''m pretty lazy) to release some water from the spigot into the cup, and let it sit for a few seconds.

This is just about the best thing ever! I used to go to coffee shops and drop $7 $10 a day. I figure I''ll make that back after costs in about a year. It''s not expensive it''s economical in my book!

OK, this thing ain''t cheap. I mean, how can you ever justify spending $1000 on a coffee maker?? I named mine Miss AnniBirthenTine. She was so expensive, that she was my ''Anni''versary, ''Birth''day, and Val''enTine''s day gift all rolled into one item! That being said, I admit I have a bit of an unhealthy relationship with my coffee maker. I love her. Fine. I said it.

One thing I have noticed is that Miss Anna is smarter than I am. She tells me when to clean her, fill her with water, etc. And, I love that. She''s clean and polite never demanding. Here and there she does some things I am not sure of, but nothing has been serious. For instance, I also experienced what the reviewer who gave one star said intermittent coffee part way through she would just turn off. I did not call customer service, but instead did some troubleshooting on my own. I came to the conclusion that the beans I bought were a bit oily (which is warned against in all the manuals and videos) and were jamming the works. I ran it through a clean cycle with a tablet and she has been a happy coffee maker since.

Miss Anna has been a part of our family since early Jan 2005. I drink Capuccinos every morning and use the hot water a lot during the winter for tea and soup. When I am feeling rather saucy, I even make espresso with half and half. YUM. You would have to rip this thing out of my cold, dead arms to get it away from me. I love Miss Anna. When I am away on vacation, I am sad about the mediocre swill people call coffee that I have to settle for until I return home. As long as I don''t think about the money, I love this thing more than I can describe.

I think I am a bit of a coffee snob. I have had this machine for a few weeks now and it''s going strong! I absolutely love it! I was concerned reading other reviews about Starbucks coffee not working so good in the machine, but the ''espresso'' roast is working fine in my machine and I have had no problems yet.

The crema on this machine is wonderful! We''re making coffee all the time. My guests are in awe of the machine, marveling at how quickly it brews fabulous coffee drinks! I made 6 different drinks the other night in just a few minutes and everyone loved them. It''s great for entertaining.

My only issue so far is finding the right milk to froth. The fat free, lactose free milk that we normally drink doesn''t yield much froth (it''s barely milk to begin with). So, I''m going to try 2% and see how that works.

I really can''t say enough good things about this machine. It does everything it''s supposed to do and so far, has impressed the most discriminating coffee snob....ME!

Buy it, you won''t be disappointed. It''s worth every penny. I am going to name it I like it so much!

We have had this machine for over 4 years and it has been great. I''m not kidding when I say its the machine we value most in our house a good cup of coffee is important to us and we couldnt live without it. In fact whenever we are away on a trip its the thing we miss the most.

Anybody who thinks this is expensive should do the math. My wife and I used to go to stabucks every morning and spend $3.75 for a grande latte. If you add it up, thats $2,000 per year. This paid for itself in less than a year and we have had it for four.

It will break and has done so twice over 4 years. But you can send it in and get it repaired for $100 or so. Still a great investment.

Anybody who goes to starbucks would be alot better off (not to mention saving time waiting in line) buying a Jura. Its a no-brainer.

I bought this machine about two years ago. At the time I thought it was pricey, but decided that in the long run, it would pay off. It has.

PROS:

CONVENIENCE. There is nothing like coming down in the morning, pressing a button, and having a good coffee, which is freshly ground for you while you wait. The separate boilers allows you to immediately switch from foaming milk to producing espresso.

EASE. My partner and parents (who wouldn''t touch my Gaggia classic because it was too complicated) all use this machine without hesitation.

DURABILITY. After two years, our well-used machine (2-3000 cups) has not needed a repair.

VERSATILITY. The coffee bypass is extremely convenient, given that my partner and I frequently prefer different roasts it is very simple for one of us to grind our own and use the bypass to produce our preferred cup.

ECONOMY. The initial price tag for this machine is high. But when you compare it with the cost of buying 1-2 cappuccinos per day from your local barista...you can quickly see that the machine pays for itself.

CONS:

COFFEE QUALITY: Very very good, but I suspect that the pressures are just not quite high enough to make the coffee of nirvana. Still very good.

FOAM QUALITY: We''ve never been able to produce the perfect foam from this machine, but again the quality is high enough, and the convenience makes it worth it.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE: The machine does require regular (about every 5 wks) cleaning and descaling, using tablets purchased from the manufacturer. It''s a slight inconvenience, but the procedures are easy to follow and take about an hour each.

*****

UPDATE THREE YEARS AFTER PURCHASE: After three years of use, our Jura has started giving us an "Error 8" message and its first major repair, which is to replace a large chunk of the brew group. The repair guy claims that this is a common error for this machine, and is expected to cost us ~$150. We also estimate that we pay about $100/year for cleaning tablets. I still really love this coffee machine (we use is several times every day) but thought that these additional maintenance costs would be useful to see in a review.

Austin Air Pet Machine Air Purifier

Austin Air Pet Machine Air Purifier - Black - A16242 03I purchased this machine about six months ago. I have four small pomeranians who are house dogs and are inside while I am at work. I put down pee-pads for them while I am away at work, so you can imagine, I really wanted an air purifier to keep any odors out of the air. I am very happy with this unit''s performance.

It is heavy but can be wheeled from room to room on its casters.

It is not the quietest machine however, for those of you who sleep with fans on or white-noise machines, you can throw those out as this until will replace them and put you to sleep in their place. It does put out a LOT of air volume on high again if you sleep with a fan on for air flow and want this in your bedroom, you can dispense with it and save on your electric bill by not running both machines.

I have not had to replace the filter yet which carries a hefty cost but I consider it an investment in health and quality-of-life so to me it is worth the cost.

It took about two days to really kick in but now when I come into the room, there is definitely a sweet smell in the air. Not sweet as in perfumery but sweet as in fresh-air smell.

I definitely will buy another one of these units when I can afford to, for the living room.

Buy Aqua-Pure AP200 Under-Sink Water Filter System Now

I wanted to give the Aqua-Pure a try before spending a fortune on a reverse osmosis system that would also take up all the space under the sink. To my relief, and a bit of a surprise, it actually works. I can compare the unfiltered to the filtered and there is a huge difference. And, it takes up little space.

Water companies have different issues to deal with in various areas of the country. Not far from here, my mother had a terrible iron problem, and I have none to deal with. I would imagine that a simple system like the AP200 might work in some areas and not others. If the water is really terrible, then perhaps only a more complex system would work and maybe not even then.

So, it works perfectly for me, but I do have issues. First, it is really expensive for what it is! This is a simple plastic device, two pieces and a gasket. $92 is a lot for that.

The filter screws into the housing. Since it is plastic, I have always been careful, but once I did find that the filter had broken off at the threads. This required taking everything out and doing something clever to remove the broken-off part from the housing.

Did I screw it in too tightly? Hmmm, I''m pretty careful about such things. I would hate to think it broke from normal water pressure or some sort of surge. I have no water hammer problem. In any case, it isn''t very durable and takes too much care to install the filter cartridge.

The better news is that the filters come two in a box. Amazon''s description makes it seem like you are only getting one for almost $50. Since they last me at least a year, that is only $25/year, which isn''t too bad.

As with any filter, you do have to tap into the plumbing under the sink. That gets you into the world of plumbing and those who have been there know that there is little standardization and lots of options.

Again, as with any filter, you really have to use a separate faucet. Running all your cold water through this filter would shorten its life considerably and at only 2 GPM, the flow would be really slow.

I put my system in when I changed the sink and I bought one that had a hole in it for a separate faucet. Some homes have the faucets coming through the counter, but drilling would still be necessary.

In my area, and my circumstances, the Aqua-Pure turns out to be a fine option. We don''t buy bottled water, the coffee and ice cubes are better and we use it to cook in. The regular water goes to the dishwasher and for sink duty.

So, I think it works just fine in most situations, takes up little room and is easier to install that some other systems. It is too expensive and fragile to get the coveted five stars, so it gets three.

I agree that the statement of 2 gal per minute is slow, which is why I use the AP in bathroom sinks and allow all the cold water to go thru the filter. They still last about a year. According to CUNO, technical service, it is time to replace the filter when you see a drop in the flow. That shows the filter is blocked. In my kitchen I have mounted a Whole House Filter. This gives me a flow rate of 5 gal per minute, which is higher than the faucet allows you. Standard Faucets are set to 2 1/2 gal per minute. I inserted a charcoal filter in my housing, available both thru CUNO or Home Depot Lowe''s etc. Again the filters last at least a year. I used to live in New York City in a building that was made with galvanized pipes and was 100 years old. The pipes had lots of rust in them and dirt, The Whole House Filters took out everything and lasted more than a year. I would change them every January just out of guilt so to speak. They filters are so cheap why not change them? I now have them in my home under both my sinks in my kitchen. One I have plumbed to filter all the water going to my Instant HOT and also to the cold water side of my faucet at the same time. This way when I want a drink of water it is filtered when I cook pasta it is filtered when I make coffee or tea it is filtered. etc. I also put a whole house filter with a dirt and sediment filter (not charcoal) in the line feeding my hot water tank. This keeps the tank clean and that will make the tank last a lot longer than if I did not filter out the water going into the tank. That is why manufactures suggest you drain the tank once a year to get rid of the sludge found in the bottom of the tank, I used to drain it but now there is nothing in the bottom of the tank due to the filter. I do not work for CUNO, I just like their products. And I was a contractor for 27 years. I installed them in the 600 kitchens and baths I did all over NYC.

Aqua-Pure AP200 Under-Sink Water Filter System Very good under sink filter. Good price. Large openings and 2 GPM flow. Activated charcoal and fiber filter. Should last > 1 year. Easy filter replacement. Easy to install. Difficult to get proper fittings between filter, supply and sink. Fittings not included. Tightly threading metal fittings into plastic threads on filter are worrisome. Could be better it that respect. Given the chance I would certainly purchase this product again.

I bought this to use for cheese making, and it has fulfilled all my expectations, including the ability to check the pH of the cheese itself, rather than just the whey as most other meters are limited to.

I can only hope that it will prove as reliable in the long run as it has in the short run, providing reliable information to 2 decimal points, which comes in very handy.

I love it and would recommend it to anyone needing such accuracy and reliability.

Good:

The PH110 is accurate and cheap. I am able to get repeatable flavor and texture when I make cheese, because I can hit all my markers.

Bad:

The PH110 requires fiddling every time I want to use it. It requires at least one calibration when I take it out of the cabinet. Then if I wait more than a couple of hours between uses, it requires another calibration. Calibration isn''t difficult, but it can get pricy because you have to buy pouches of calibration solution. I put the solution in a tupperware bowl and reuse it for a day or two.

Ugly:

A couple of times, I had to remove the batteries to reset it because it locked up during a calibration.

Black & Decker Water Coffee Filter

Black & Decker Water Coffee FilterI ordered this for my Hamilton Beach coffee pot. The filters for Hamilton beach are ridiculously expensive and I am not willing to pay $10 for one tiny filter.

I figured I''d give these a try even though they were not made for my coffee pot. They are a little bigger than my filters, but I was able to get them to fit with not much work.

These actually do make coffee taste better! A helpful tip is to run vinegar through your coffee pot every month or so, it will clean it out and make your coffee better.

I''m still on my first filter after a couple of months and the coffee still tastes just as good as the first day. I will definitely be getting more of these.

These are inexpensive filters for my Black & Decker coffee maker. I definitely can tell the difference in the purity of the water. I use normal sink water and the coffee tastes much smoother when using a filter. I usually replace them every 3-4months so a pack can last you a year.
