Capresso 485.05 MT600 Plus 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Save 1% Off

Capresso 485.05 MT600 Plus 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Thermal CarafeI bought this to replace a KitchenAid 10 cup that unfortunately had an untimely death after a broken carafe. This was the second KitchenAid that I had to throw away because they stopped making replacement parts. I decided to go with a thermal carafe and bought this Capresso and a Melitta (Melitta 10-Cup Thermal Coffee Maker) based on reviews. They both make great coffee and I''ve had no problems with dripping as another reviewer posted. I do like the concept of the permanent gold filter, but for whatever reason, I find my coffee is better tasting with paper filters. I noticed the Melitta seemed to have a more robust flavor and it doesn''t use the gold filter. As a result, I''ve put the gold filter in the cabinet and am using paper filters. Also, using a lab grade thermometer, my coffee brews at about 180 degrees F. Too hot for me to drink before allowing it to cool, so I''m pleased with temperature.

Comparing to the Melitta thermal brewer, the Capresso seems to be "better equipped" with the gold permanent coffee filter and a water filter as well. The Melitta seems to make slightly better coffee when both are using paper filters. The Capresso seems to brew faster, which may be one of the reasons the Melitta had a more robust coffee flavor. For now, I''m going to continue to use the Capresso as my daily coffee maker and use paper filters. The Melitta is going to serve time at another location due to it''s slightly challenging colors (it has a big red band around the carafe that is less than appealing). If I had to choose one, I''d probably give the nod to the Melitta.

I purchased this coffeemaker a month and a half ago. I was initially hesitant after reading several reviews of previous and similar models, specifically about coffee not staying warm and high spill rate during brewing. So far I have had no issues with any of that.

This coffeemaker has been great, with easy to brew, easy to program, quick to brew, hot and tasty coffee. I would definitely recommend it to friends looking for a new one.

Brewing:

Takes less than 10 minutes to brew a full pot. Easy to start, auto-shutoff, and drip-stop for pouring while in the middle of brewing works well.

Carafe:

The carafe keeps our coffee hot for a good amount of time (a couple hours) and warm even longer (another couple hours). I''ve poured myself a cup after 4 hours and still had a cup that was acceptably warm in my book. I''ve had no issues with coffee leaking while brewing, and we have not been overly cautious when placing the carafe. We make sure the lid is on, pop it on the holder, and go. We''ve had no leakage problems of any sort while pouring; it has seemed intuitive to my wife and I that to pour you line up the line on the lid with the pour spout. To me it''s reminiscent of a simple lemonade/punch/kool-aid pitcher with a lid that you turn to pour. Another complaint I''d read about this and other similar models is slow pouring. I''ve not noticed any issues with this, though I''m not used to serving my coffee at water-bucket speeds either. It pours at a medium pace, not a gush, not a dribble. Last note on the carafe: the opening is a bit small, so it may be difficult for some individuals with above average hand size to clean without a brush of some sort.

Filter:

The filter was easy to install and replace, and I definitely noticed a difference in flavor immediately. I dislike the (chlorine-like) taste of our local water, and this filter does a good job of removing that.

Reservoir:

The water reservoir is a slight bit awkward to fill, as it is narrow and the water fill meter is off to the right, and if you turn the base to look at it then the grounds holding portion will be in your way if pouring with your left hand, and the reservoir lid is in your way if you pour with your right hand. Mostly just a slight inconvenience, though every time I fill it I do wish the water fill meter was on the front instead of the side.

Controls:

Because the controls lay flat, they and the display are a little difficult to see unless you pull the coffeemaker right in front of you. That being said, I generally only use the "make coffee" button, and it''s easy to see/ press at arms length away. We''ve only used the programmed start time on a couple occasions, but it worked well.

Gold-toned Filter/ Permanent Filter:

This coffee maker comes with a "Reusable GoldTone Filter". I don''t like it, and don''t generally use it. It may be convenient for those times you run out of paper filters, or if you''re trying to be environmentally conscious to reduce your paper waste. The filter doesn''t do nearly as well at keeping grounds out of the coffee -grounds dust made it into every pot we brewed using it, and left whomever got the last cup (and some in-between) a wonderful surprise gulp at the end. However, this wasn''t a feature we bought the coffeemaker for, and it accepts the standard #4 conical filters.

Cleaning:

Cleaning has been a breeze. Most of the pieces that are in direct contact with the coffee are removable and easy to wash. The instructions give simple to follow guidance on how to clean your system if you get any mineral buildup. The fingerprint-less stainless steel seems to be just that, at least for normal situations.

I had a previous Capresso which died after 5 years. This one works even better easy to program, easy to replace the water filter. Took me a bit to figure out how to line up the lid so the coffee doesn''t spill as they don''t tell you in the manual about lining up the little groove on the lid with the spout so I spent a week spilling coffee until I figured that out. But.. besides that.. it just works and coffee stays warm and tastes great. What more can you want in a coffee maker?

I have had the older version of this machine for about 8 years now. It is our favorite coffee maker and we are a bit picky about our coffee. The old machine had a rubber gasket start leaking water, so we decided to replace the machine with a new one.

I will note that the old machine was a bit more expensive, and was made in Portugal. Capresso was bought out by a competitor who now is selling the machine a bit cheaper, presumably because they make it in China now.

But while it used to be worth the money, now it is not.

Right off the bat, during the first water-only brew I noticed issues that prompted me to return the machine.

1) The machine itself appears to lean backward maybe a millimeter or two. I would have not noticed that (who would), but this causes a problem with the carafe -the coffee no longer goes straight from the machine into the carafe through an opening in the middle of the lid. Instead it flows on the side of the lid, running about 1/2" through open air -clearly a good way to cool it down. It seems that this is a common problem, as the lid is redesigned now, with the only apparent advantage of being able to catch this kind of spill.

The 8 year old machine is as straight as the first day and the coffee pours into the carafe.

2) The second issue is with the coffee machine lid -it is made from softer plastic. During the first brew, the plastic expanded and warped, popped semi-open and steam was leaving on the sides.

The old machine does have a bit of the same problem, but only because I cracked it and is no longer closing properly.

I have posted a composite picture to illustrate these problems. I would have paid 2x for the same machine if it actually worked.

It may go without saying, but I think the strongest feature of this coffee maker is the thermal carafe. Having a sealed carafe really helps keep the coffee fresh, and prevents oxidation and bitterness as the coffee sits post-brewing. I have to say, it seems to work we''ve had this coffee maker for two or three weeks now and the coffee seems to be consistently smooth with no nasty acidity.

Overall, it works well and seems well-made. The carafe is solid, a nice stainless steel with a sturdy plastic handle. The lid screws on tight and locks in position when the notch is pointing at the handle. In order to pour, you simply unscrew the lid 180 degrees so the notch points towards the spout. A sealed carafe necessarily requires a locking lid, and it seems some users who had difficulty pouring failed to read the directions. It''s very easy to figure out the lid and pours well when used properly.

I would recommend pre-heating the carafe as explained in the instruction manual that is, swirl some hot water from your faucet around inside the carafe, dump it out, and then lock the lid on and brew. A pre-heated carafe will ensure you minimize heat loss in your brewed coffee.

At least one reviewer complained about the water from the drip spout not hitting all of the coffee grounds in the filter during brewing, but I''ve had no such issues. The grounds are always fully soaked after brewing.

Overall, this machine performs well and I have no complaints. I''m not exactly sure why it''s so expensive, but that said, it was a wedding gift so the price wasn''t a strong factor in our purchase. Most of the low reviews on here can fairly be attributed to user error so don''t let those deter you; a quick read of the instruction manual is all it takes to get the most out of this machine. Hoping we get many years of use from it.

Frigidaire FRIGIDAIRE 241521304 WATER FILTER CUP AND HOUSING ASSEMBLY

Frigidaire FRIGIDAIRE 241521304 WATER FILTER CUP AND HOUSING ASSEMBLY
  • WATER FILTER CUP AND HOUSING ASSEMBLY. INCLUDES "O" RING *FILTER NOT INCLUDED. FRIGIDAIRE
  • Works with the following models: Frigidaire FRS26R2AQ0

We couldn''t figure out why water was leaking into the refrigerator. The problem seemed to coincide with the food in the refrigerator freezing. Once we thawed the food and lowered the cooling setting on our refrigerator, the leak started. Finally figured out it was a cracked housing on the water filter. I am guessing that the water froze in the filter and expanded enough to break the housing. I ordered the replacement part online, it showed up in a few days, easy to replace, problem solved.

I had to replace this filter because it froze up and cracked as some others have experienced. Like Jeff''s Advice said, the inlet and outlet tubes are oriented 90 degrees from the original which meant that one tube had to be pulled out a little more. I don''t understand a FSP part not being the same. I just needed the mounted housing and not the filter cup but it''s probably best they are as a pair due to any manufacturing variances due to production dates. Overall, everything worked out as it should. The filter assembly was priced very reasonably and the shipping was fast as it arrived before the expected delivery date. I''m very satisfied and even more pleased with the savings from not having to call a repairman. This is an easy do-it-yourselfer. Thanks.

The first thing I noticed was the inlet and outlet stubs are not oriented the same as the original. I installed it anyway and it seems to work fine but had to slightly expose one of the lines from the cover to make it reach. I''m the only one that notices it and who cares.

Not sure why the plastic filter assembly cracked in our Frigidaire refrigirator, but it did. With help from my son we found the replacement assembly on line and took about 8 minutes to remove & install the new housing. For less than $30.00 the system was repaired and operating again. This is a great replacement part that was easy and quick to install. Really nice to have ice and cold drinking water again. Thanks for all your help...........Jack

This was a perfect fit! I saved myself 15 dollars, it was 40 at Sears.

The item arrived sooner that expected. Very happy with my purchase.

Sodastream Pure Starter Kit Save 13% Off

SodaStream Pure Starter Kit, Black/SilverIt''s a nice machine, works as advertised, and I find the Diet Cola is very close in taste to Diet Coke. The other flavors are variable in quality and in how closely they replicate the flavor of the market leaders.

However, you will not save money. I''ve put all the math below. For startup costs I''ve assumed you''ll want at least two additional bottles, and two additional canisters. This is probably conservative, since the whole point is to save trips to the supermarket, and the bottles will definitely wear out over time. I''ve amortized these startup costs over 3 years, with four family members each drinking 45 gallons per year of soda. The Diet Cola flavor sells for $8.32 here on Amazon as of today, and refills on the canisters cost $15 each.

Put all this together, and it comes to $1.04 per liter. Average retail on Diet Coke is $0.70. So you won''t save money.

What you will save is your time, your gas, your back and your fridge space. It''s nice to be able to whip up soda any time without having to lug big slabs of cans or heavy bags of bottles in from the supermarket. It''s nice not to have to fill up a whole shelf in the fridge with soda. That''s the real benefit to this. I think they have actually priced this out accordingly, so the slight premium you pay per liter offsets the hassle factor of buying soda the regular way.

Here are the calculations. (No, I didn''t factor in cost-of-capital. I''m keeping this simple.)

This is a good product sold by a company that has sleazy business practices. Their practices should be known before committing to buy anything from them, because you are locked into dealing with them (and only them) forever.

The company is misrepresenting the exchange situation in an almost criminal manner. They told me that if I bought 2 more spare bottles for 100 dollars, I would have free shipping for life as long as I ordered two exchange bottles at a time.

Not too long after, they reneged on that, and started charging me for shipping.

In addition, their site says, "Exchange locally to avoid shipping charges". That was true for me when I bought it. It did not last long. Fewer and fewer places have exchange bottles, and some have really high prices. Today, a local exchange for my (formerly) standard size 130 liter bottle is not possible in 99% of the US. Only the smaller 60 liter bottle is available in my state, as well as several neighboring states. I suspect this is a scheme to force me to convert to the smaller bottle, which will increase my costs and their profits considerably.

To add insult to injury, their site trumpets "Now available at thousands of retail locations." A quick check reveals that there are a couple hundred retail locations that will sell you the equipment, but far fewer who will exchange your small bottles, and about three nationwide that will exchange the large 130 liter bottle.

It would seem that they are far, far more interested in sales than service. This is particularly onerous, since their product requires constant refill service, and it is only available through them, at whatever price they charge, both for the refill and the shipping.

It is also worth noting that a 130 liter carbonator will not come near making 130 liters of decently carbonated water. The only way we can get 130 liters out of a refill is to make the carbonation so weak that the bottle goes flat before half of the water is consumed. This, of course, defeats the purpose of making one''s own carbonated water. You are at their mercy when it comes to how much CO2 they put in a refill, how much they charge you for it, and how much they charge you for shipping. And, that includes constant increases in their charges.

So, do your homework before you commit to this company. The deal will change.

I recently placed and order for refills, and they took a week to even get them from their facility to UPS, so plan on ordering well in advance.

The have built a booby trap into their bottles so they cannot be refilled by anyone but them, so local refilling at reasonable prices is not an option for me.

I initially bought the Penguin version of this soda maker (same maker, and also sold on Amazon), and it has quickly become the most used appliance in my kitchen next to the microwave. It makes flawless carbonated water and does so in a matter of seconds, from cold tap water without the use of any electricity. The carbonated water it produces lasts far longer in my fridge, in terms of bubbles and fizz, than any carbonated water I''ve gotten from the store, including Pellegrino.

I use my Penguin soda maker with a PUR 2-Stage water filter PUR DS-1800Z 2-Stage Water Dispenser, which sits in my fridge and dispenses cold water that can go right into the soda maker carafe/bottle.

I was skeptical before buying the soda maker as I could not fathom how such a small product could produce carbonated water almost instantly without electricity. But it surpassed all expectations and continues to amaze me every time I use it, which is basically every day.

I have not used any syrups with the soda maker but typically mix the sparkling water with natural juice, about 20% juice to 80% water, and it tastes amazing and is healthy too.

I saw this classic SodaStream version of the soda maker at a friend''s house and he raved about it, so I just purchased it for a friend. It seems to work like the Penguin except that you screw the bottle in at the top to attach it to the machine, rather than slip a carafe into a holder like you do with the Penguin. I think the Penguin design is slightly less cumbersome but I thought the look on this one was more elegant and simple.

In any event, I highly recommend this product or the Penguin, without reservations. There is simply nothing wrong with it it''s perfect in every way and pretty darn ingenious (for me, anyway!).

While the general idea of this product is solid, consumers should understand that they are grossly overpaying for SodaStream carbon dioxide refills. In fact, the prices charged are sixteen times (16x) wholesale costs or many, many times more expensive than the prices a restaurant would pay. In Europe, frugal consumers are aware of such markups and actually purchase their own restaurant-sized CO2 refills. In the US, we aren''t so frugal.

Other than the outrageous costs for the CO2 refills, there are other issues with the SodaStream Fountain Jet. One is the construction quality is quite low with very thin molded plastic and little weight. Additionally, the taste of generic soda flavors do not match that of the brand name products.

Below is the calculated cost per two liter for the output of SodaStream soda. This includes the cost of the consumables AND the equipment costs. I have used very generous assumptions, including a low discount rate (i.e. cost of money).

Transportation costs were not factored because 1) purchases of typical groceries should more or less overlap with soft drink purchases 2) grocery delivery has long been available in many areas 3) most people live closer to a grocery store than to a home furnishings store (I walk 100 ft. for groceries and drive one mile for BB&B) 4) the reverse logistics for the CO2 refills is an extra expense for the retailer that has to be factored into their profit margin and will ultimately be borne by the consumer.

One of the reasons Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy''s and Crate and Barrel choose to carry SodaStream is that they want the consumer to make MORE FREQUENT trips to their establishments for consumables. Instead of going to such establishments once every 3 to 6 months, customers will now visit once every 1 to 2 months. That makes an enormous difference for generating impulse purchases at such retailers. One could argue then that transportation costs could increase for the individual consumer.

Want Sodastream Pure Starter Kit Discount?

After growing up with something similar in the late 80''s (which was discontinued do to shipping co2 through the regular mail, I believe) I knew I had to have this soda machine as soon as I saw it in skymall magazine. After doing some research on ways to retrofit this device to use a regular 20lb co2 tank and purchasing an adapter which makes the sodastream easily connect to said tank we ordered this machine. The Chrome/Stainless finish was the best looking design IMO when we ordered this machine in March 2011. There might be more attractive options available now but no matter the finish it still has a relatively small footprint on the countertop. I love club soda and drink it regularly. Since the water in Las Vegas has a mineral taste, having the added carbonation is enough to mask that taste and make drinking local tap water enjoyable again.

We ran through the included TINY tanks of co2 pretty fast but then hooked it up to our large tank through a hole we drilled in the countertop. Keep in mind that by forcing you to use their "proprietary" co2 mail ordering service the manufacturers of this product are forcing you to pay well over retail for co2 gas and it kind of seems like extortion. We have our 20lb tank filled at a local hydroponic gardening store for around ten bucks and we have only had to fill it once so far (we''ve had it about 10 mos.) I use the machine about 2-3 times a day (make 2-3 full bottles of carbonated water) and then just dump it into a nalgene bottle and mix in some raspberry ice crystal light powder (which tastes like jello). So far all of the crystal light flavors are pretty good carbonated *except ice tea which is TERRIBLE*. I tried the sodastream brand of diet rootbeer (i think all of their syrups are diet) and was pretty disappointed as it just tasted like diet coke. We have used the sodastream brand "energy drink" which tastes and smells pretty much exactly like diet redbull/ rockstar. I sometimes also mix mine with fruit juice which is light and refreshing.

My husband uses it 1-2 times a day and mixes his with Coke brand syrup which we purchase at our local business Costco and pour into pump bottles my dad found which fit perfectly into the door of our fridge. My parents didn''t have the space underneath their counter for the large co2 tank so my dad opted for a different retrofit option where he fills the smaller bottles himself with a large tank he keeps in his garage. His solution is slightly more annoying but not as annoying as mailing them across the country and paying exorbitant amounts for CARBON DIOXIDE which is readily available everywhere! After the purchase of the machine, adapter, syrup, tank and gas we have invested around $300 on this but I''m pretty sure we''ve already saved close to that amount or more by not purchasing drinks when we eat out nor 2 liter bottles/canned soda at the grocery store. Not to mention the environmental impact of all of that plastic from the 2 liters we have avoided!

Samsung 24 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator Save 26% Off

Samsung 24 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator - RSG257AARSThis model is newer inside than the larger, non-counter depth model RS275ACRS. I returned that model to get this one and am very glad I did.

1. This model has interior LED lights when you open the refrigerator instead of the hotter old bulbs like the 275.

2. I am somewhat compulsive about temperature control. I have two precision thermometers, one in the fridge and one in the freezer compartment. On the RS275ACRS, the temperatures were nowhere near what the external display was reporting them as. On this model, however, the refrigerator is usually within 0.2 deg F of the reported temperature (at coldest setting of 34F, thermometer reports 34.1 whereas the 275 would be all over the place, never lower than 37 or so). In the freezer, this model is rock solid at -10 F when the external display is -14 F. I consider this excellent, as most freezers can''t get this low. The 275 was lucky to get to -7 F with the display at -14 F. And yes, I allowed plenty of calibration time and took multiple readings over weeks. So, in my testing anyway, they have definitely upgraded the innards since the 275.

3. This model has the icemaker on the freezer door, not hogging the upper shelves of the freezer, which I love.

4. It is, obviously, slightly shallower than the RS275ACRS, but the markedly improved performance is well worth it to me.

5. Fridge very quiet.

6. External display slightly improved vs RS275ACRS.

We purchased the Samsung RSG257AARS a week ago to replace our old Whirlpool (around 25 years old) that chugged along like a locomotive and sounded like one too.

It''s still early, but thus far I have to give the Samsung a big thumbs up.

Pluses:

1) Very attractive design inside and out.

2) The interior theatre lighting is a nice touch.

3) Very effective cooling.

4) Exceptionally quiet.

5) Simple-to-use controls

Minuses:

1) The shelving has limited adjustment capability.

2) The crisper drawers pull out only half-way, so access is a little compromised.

3) The freezer should have a special slot for pizza boxes to be stored upright.

Side note: This model has a stainless steel finish and a great cleaner to use is Weiman''s Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish.

EDIT: (7/18/12) We''ve now owned this Samsung for nearly three years and are very happy with the purchase. The 5 stars rating remains accurate insofar as our experience is concerned. We''ve had zero problems with this product. It''s super quiet. Keeps food consistently cold. And, for us at least, the ice maker works well.

Just got this after my old whirlpool died. It is very attractive, shallow in depth, and I love the inside LED lighting. The only thing I don''t like so far is that the produce bins don''t open all the way. You can lift the bin and pull it out more but then you risk the entire bin falling out.

I am really impressed with how much storage space there is inside this counter depth refrigerator.

UPDATE: The ice maker is SUPER slow. I run out of ice all the time if I have more than 4-6 people over for dinner and drinks.

I really wanted a counter-depth side-by-side refrigerator. After researching a few minutes, I realized that Counter-Depth units are rare and cost much, much more for the same quality. Everything I put my hands on at the retailers (in my price range) felt like garbage, until I found this Samsung (one of the few brands I didn''t research). The local store offered me a killer deal, so I had it delivered.

After going through all the procedures in the manual, and procedures on the phone with tech support, the icemaker didn''t work. I have no issues with the water line, and my old, cheap refrigerator quickly churned out buckets of ice (old school interior style with no exterior dispensor) until the moment they hauled it off for this Samsung. I researched online and found all the Samsung icemaker horror stories. Many brands have icemaker issues but Samsung models seem to have quite a bit more?

I called the repair center and they said the first available time for a tech to arrive was 2 weeks. I did not want to get into the endless loop of "wait for repair wait for part to arrive wait for repair with part wait to see if part works rinse and repeat", so I called the local store I bought it from, and returned it. Plus, I believe that when you buy something new, and spend this much money, it should work. If not, they should send someone out immediately so you at least get up-and-running with what you paid for.

I gave up on the "counter-depth dream" and decided to buy a standard depth (in another brand) and will have to deal with the extra bulk. The price jumps too high for reasonable quality.

On the bright side, I will say that this Samsung model is beautiful and has rock solid feel to it (like the 3000-4000+ models). The LED tower lighting is amazing. Tons of space and features. I love the computer and it cooled super fast to requested temps. To me, it was like an expensive, high-end fridge and very impressive. Aside from a few minor flaws, I was blown away at the quality/price ratio. If they could only get the icemaker on par with the rest, it would be the best deal around (assuming you know how to haggle for a great deal).

In the year 2010, what is so difficult about making something as simple as an icemaker? Don''t they know that this is what typically makes or breaks a refrigerator?

Want Samsung 24 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-By-Side Refrigerator Discount?

We''ve had the refrigerator for 2 years now and I don''t agree with most of the negative reviews. It''s a perfect size for a frig that fits flush with your kitchen cabinets. The lighting in this model is perfect on ever shelf. It''s cold on every shelf and bin. The ice dispenser is a bit slow but nothing to truly complain about. The stainless steel doors are a bit of a hassle with fingerprints, but every stainless steel appliance I''ve ever own shows prints. it''s a beautiful design and super quiet.

Bryant/Carrier Humidifier Water Panel P110-3545 - 2-PkDecent price, quick shipping. I had trouble determining if this would fit in my Bryant HUMBBLFP1418. One other website suggested it would. It does.

You need a new one of these every year, and this is a good, cheap way to buy them. It''s a quick ship and they come undamaged.

One thing I would counsel you about is to notice there in the picture the red dot on one end of the filter. That red dot has to go up when the filter is installed. These filters have a clear red dot. Another brand I purchased did not, and I guess I installed it upside down and it made one heck of a mess. You want the ones with the red dot clearly marked.

One final thing: these things are a bit prickly. I don''t use gloves to install them, but I am careful. If you drop one of these on your bare leg, you''re going to cut yourself all up. Be careful.

Culligan RDSH-C115 RainDisc Showerhead with Filter Save 38% Off

Culligan RDSH-C115 RainDisc Showerhead with Filter, Chrome Finish
  • Reduces 97 percent chlorine, sulfur odor and scale from water
  • Easy -to-install, no tools required
  • Each WHR-140 filter cartridge filters for a full 10,000 gallons or 6 months
  • System tested and Certified by NSF International against ANSI Standard 177
  • Optional REA-150 RainDisc shower hi-lo arm available

We ordered the Culligan RDSH-C115 RainDisc Shower Head with Filter, and two additional WHR-140 filter cartridges and have been using it for about a week. The instructions say to remove the black rubber water saver if the flow is too low, which was the case with us. The filters are good for 10,000 gallons which I calculated as two showers a day for about 6 months. Since we removed the water saver, which seems to double the flow, I figure a filter should last about 3 months.

Installation was fairly simple. I removed the old shower head and left the old thin plumber''s tape on the threads of the water pipe. I removed the six screws from the face of the shower head to open it. I removed the stickers from both sides of the filter cartridge and pressed it in to the shower head about 1/4 inch. I replaced the 6 screws and screwed the shower head on to the water pipe. When I ran the shower I felt the flow was not strong enough so I unscrewed the shower head from the pipe and (as per the instructions) pulled out the small black rubber water saver plug from the pipe end of the shower head (using a scissor). I screwed the shower head back onto the water pipe and tightened it with pliers.

The flow without the water saver is large and feels like a water stream from a large pipe.

There''s no needle like spray, just a soft large volume of water falling on you.

The chlorine remover really works. After just a couple of uses, skin and hair are noticeable softer and soap or shampoo seem to rinse more thoroughly and quickly. In summer the chlorine smell in our NJ hard water is quite pungent, and this removed it completely.

Happy with the product. I have an automatic water pressure pump (switches on automatically when you open a tap or use any water outlet in the house). The pump combined with this rain shower head, makes for a great soaking shower without having the water pierce the skin.

Water stream flows evenly and comfortably, however like others have stated, to actually get an enjoyable shower, you would need to remove the black water saving rubber piece in the top of the shower head.

I can also confirm that the correct filter for this item is indeed Culligan WHR-140, which although in the picture listings on Amazon looks huge, it actually fits just right.

My only minor issue with it, and it is the reason for giving it 4-stars, is that it is made of chrome plated plastic and not Chrome as is stated in the product description on Amazon. This does not affect the showering experience, but if Im buying chrome, I expect to get Chrome, not 90% plastic and 5% Chrome.

I certainly reccomend this product.

This product claims to remove 97% of chlorine so I decided to try it. The tests were done with Extech CL200 Chlorine Meter. After installing filter, i let shower run for 7 minutes before taking test. The water coming out of the faucet without filter installed showed .38mg/liter of chlorine @ 87F. With filter installed i had .27mg/liter of chlorine @ 84F, which comes to 29% reduction in chlorine. My drinking water filter showed .01mg/liter of chlorine. This shower filter might do better with cold water (that''s probably how it''s been tested by manufacturer) but you probably don''t want to take cold shower anyway. I''ll try to test other shower filters but from what i read its hard to remove chlorine from hot water and some shower filters actually change free chlorine to a less active form(I don''t know if its the case with this filter). If you want chlorine free shower, your only option is to install whole house filter.

I love this product! We have no chlorine problem with my well water; however, we do have lots of minerals which leave my hair feeling awful. No matter which expensive products (clarifying shampoos, leave-in conditioners, believe me EVERYTHING), I used on my hair, it still looked course and frizzy, I live in Connecticul and noticed that whenever I stayed over in Manhattan, my hair looked great....it dawned on me that the water really did make a difference in the texture of my hair. I was all set to install an expensive home filtering system when I decided to try the Culligan Raindisc and I am telling you that this is the best thing that has happened to my hair in years!

So, the Raindisc is not chrome and yes, the flow is not as strong as I am used to. I really don''t care.....it does exactly what I bought it for removing all the nonsense which prevents my hair from being easy-to-manage. This is a miracle for me.......thank you so much.

It''s gentle like rain, not high-pressure. It did not work at all when I first installed in until I took out the black flow regulator like another reviewer mentioned. I don''t see how it would even work with one, but, it works great without it. It''s not high-pressure, so you pretty much have to stand directly beneath it. But it''s soft in pressure and makes the water soft, which feels awesome, like bathing in soft rain. I can''t believe how much nicer the water feels. Very good product.

We owned an Amana refer for over 15 years until it stopped cooling in the refer and the freezer wouldn''t defrost. I checked on getting it repaired but tech said would be better off buying a new one.

So ...since we had good luck with Amana in the past we bought the one listed here.

Big mistake. The same thing that happened to our 15 year old refer hit the new one after only 2 years. Of course it is out of warranty now so I guess we have to pay 200 or more to get it fixed or buy a new fridge every 2 years. The freezer coils get covered with ice and the fridge is warm ....inexcusable for an appliance this new.

I haven''t had this long at all, so I can''t speak for longevity. I love it so far, though. I ordered it on January 20th (a Friday), and it arrived on the 25th (the following Wednesday) at 8am! The delivery company already had it unpacked and ready to go, they rolled it right into my kitchen in less than 5 minutes. After hooking up the water and power lines, everything worked flawlessly. It''s cooling both sides fine on medium settings and the ice/water maker/dispenser is great! I can barely hear it running when the compressor kicks in. For the price I am very satisfied.

I have been using this fridge for a little over two months now and it is so far keeping everything within it good and cold and/or frozen. Our prior fridge was a Frigidaire that was around 30 years old. It was making extra noises, ran almost constantly and had a few less cubic feet, but still worked. We have noticed that our electric bill took a drop after starting to use this Amana, so it is more efficient. The two plastic drawers within the Amana look a bit flimsy. I hope they do not break as they are expensive to replace. The three drawers in the Frigidaire were much more sturdily made. The bottom drawer was for meats and stayed a little colder. The Amana does not have a place especially for meats.

We had to add plumbing to the house to get water for the ice maker. Just got that done within the last few days. The ice maker is now doing its job. Every few hours we hear it dropping ice. As the instructions stated, I threw out the first several batches of ice.

I would have liked to have greater control over the spacing of the shelves. This Amana is suppose to have several cubic feet more space than the Frigidaire, but it doesn''t seem to hold any more than the Frigidaire did. Appears to me that there is a lot of space within the Amana that is not able to be used. I do like the tempered glass shelves that will stop small spills from going clear to the bottom of the fridge. The door could have used one more tray and a place to keep eggs where they could be accessed easily.

So far, I am liking this Amana. Other than the inefficient use of space and the flimsy looking drawers, it seems to be working well so far. Knock on wood. I hope it keeps up. I am giving it four stars. Will update in the future if needed.

This refrigerator, which was purchased from Amazon, was delivered by a truck, unpacked by the driver, and then wheeled into the house and placed where it was requested. The outside packing material was removed by the driver. Very good service by Amazon.

March 9, 2013.

Have been using this refrigerator for around fifteen months now and it continues to work quite well. No problems with it whatsoever. The ice maker also continues to work quite well. There are only few complaints I might make so far. One is that the glass shelves are dirt magnets. Every few weeks I find that I have to clean a shelf or two. The other is it looks to me as though the shelves could have been several inches deeper front to back. It looks as though there was enough space for that and it would have added a little more storage capacity. I would recommend a couple of wire baskets for the freezer section to keep smaller items in. They keep small items from falling out. I like the Spectrum 47970 Medium Storage Basket.

This refrigerator is great for any kitchen, especially if you want a black refrigerator, quite unique because most are white, but never the less energy efficient and up to date with today standards

Jura 13332 Impressa J5 Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center

Jura 13332 Impressa J5 Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center, Matte BlackI have had 3 cappuccino makers prior to the Jura J5 and have always wanted to own the Impressa J5. Well, this year I went out and got one and, as far as I''m concerned, that was my biggest mistake. It makes a good espresso, that I must say; and I love the cleaning process, but the milk steamer/frother system is definitely a design flaw. The second time I used the dual frother, the wand blew off and sprayed me with steam and milk. I called customer service and they told me that the frother needs to be properly cleaned (taking the frother nozzle off to clean it) and soaked in the cleaning solution each day after it is used. Well, I have been cleaning, soaking and rinsing that frother for several months now and it still blows off intermittently when I steam coffee, blowing milk and steam everywhere. I went to a local distributor and asked them about it and they told me that they have the same problem. Surely there has to be a better frother system for such a nice cappuccino maker?

I had a Capresso C1500 for about 6 years. It started leaking and making weak coffee. So, I got the J5 as an upgrade/replacement. I have now own the J5 for about 2 months. It is definitely an improvement over the C1500.

Pros

It makes really hot beverages

Two types of frothing method: 1. Traditional way; 2. FrothXpress way

Programmable everything (e.g. water temp, strength of coffee, amount of water..etc)

Self-rinsing before startup and before shutdown.

Convenience.

Cons

Cheap Plastic Shell (Especially for a machine costing $1800!!)

Extracting the espresso too fast. (But this is with all Super-autos)

Does not have a traditional steam wand. (the wand came with it is not really a traditional one you find with other machines)

Cleaning the wand properly after use. (You really have to soak it and make sure the little holes on the wand are clean. Or else it will not steam properly)

I think maybe because now I am a bit more experienced in making espresso and understand the details that goes into it that I find I am looking for more in a machine. Yes, this is a very good machine that produces good coffee/espresso. But now I am wanting to go a step higher and get a "God" shot of espresso. The J5 (actually all super-autos) will not give you that.

What this machine will give you is convenience. The shots are hot and are good. It will give you good froth but not the true micro-foams you find in traditional semi-auto machines. I still love the machine and feel that the espresso it produces is better than 80% of the retail coffee shops.

I would recommend this machine to people who are into coffee/espresso and knows at least that good espresso does not need to taste bitter. This machine will satisfy probably 90% of the coffee drinkers out there. For the other 10%, the coffee snobs, this machine probably will not do. It does not produce "tiger stripes" shots (at least I am not able to do it). You can not control tamping. The steam wand is not traditional and in my opinion not that powerful. Does this mean I am a coffee snob?!?

But really, I can not complain too much it is still a wonderful machine. I am starting to contemplate more of a prosumer type of espresso machine. One that is semi-automatic and you really need the end user''s experience/input to produce that "god" shot (e.g. Tiger Stripes crema). Well, I will use this until it dies. Then I will go the next step....

Buy Jura 13332 Impressa J5 Automatic Coffee and Espresso Center Now

Where to begin? This machine can do it all, from a strong shot of espresso to a flawless cappuccino, all in under minute. If you can tie your shoes, you can use one of these machines.

I looked in to this machine after using an older Capresso model at a friend''s house. I was always impressed by how easily and quickly he could make a variety of drinks for guests, not to mention the quality of their appearance and flavor.

This machine comes with two different frothing systems, one is a more traditional bullet style frother, while the other can automatically steam or froth milk. This is where the J5 really shines. In no time you can froth yourself milk that would make the most seasoned barista jealous, and then push a single button to instantly brew piping hot coffee.

The machine starts with whole beans of your choosing and grinds them just for the drink you are making. This ensures that you''ll get the freshest tasting coffee cup after cup.

What I like most about this machine though is the variety of drinks it can make. If you have a guest over who isn''t a big coffee drinker you can use the machine to make instant hot water for tea, or my favorite trick: run chocolate milk through the steamer for instant hot chocolate. Of course for the rest of us, the pressure brewing system in this machine will allow you to say goodbye to expensive coffee drinks, and become your own favorite barista.

We have had several of the Jura-Capresso machines. We currently have the Impress J5.

We love the coffee and lattes it makes but there is one very annoying and potentially dangerous issue.

The frothing tip on the machine flies off intermittently and sprays hot milk on us and all

over the cabinets and floor. We make a point of blowing steam through the tip for about 30 seconds

after we make each latte to make certain no milk remains in it to clog it and we also clean the

tip in solution as directed -but the problem continues. We had this issue on other Jura-Capresso

machines as well so we don''t understand why they don''t have screw on tips to easily solve this problem.

Making lattes has become a stressful event!

This machine is utterly fantastic, period. I have wasted through endless Cuisinart Grind & Brew machines to no avail and spent way too much on Starbucks. This literally makes the perfect cup of coffee or espresso. The milk frother creates perfect cream. I set it to ''wake up'' before I do so its ready to go. Its as easy as pie to clean and the machine tells you to do everythingadd water, beans, clean out grounds, etc. Its even Energy Saver. What else could you want?

I came across some shocking research findings on the negative effects of chlorine in tap water, and I decided to test the chlorine levels at my house. I got a chlorine test kit from the swimming pool store for $10.99. It should last for years. I was surprised to find that the level of chlorine in my tap was exactly the same of the level coming from this shower filter! In other words, it is not filtering chlorine at all! I wondered if it has EVER filtered chlorine in its 8 months of use, and if so, by how much and for how long!?

So, I decided to do a test. I just bought one more of these filters today. This time I am going to test it immediately when I install it, and then once a week until it no longer filters chlorine. I will do a cold water test and a hot water test.

I have been using this product for only 8 months, and it is only me using it! It is supposed to last one year with one person using it, so I have my doubts about it already, but I want to approach this scientifically.

I have recommended this product to 5 of my friends, and last night I had to write them an email letting them know my disturbing findings on the product''s filtering, or lack thereof.

Stay tuned for my experiment''s results...

Jeremy

*****

RESULTSDay 1: July 17th, 2012. The new filter just arrived today and I tested it just now.

ppm is "parts per million"

----With No filter (straight tap water):

Hot water: 0.5 ppm chlorine

Cold water: 1.5 ppm chlorine

----With the brand new filter

Hot water: between 0 and 0.5 ppm chlorine

Cold water: between 0.5 and 1 ppm chlorine

SO, it does appear to filter out SOME of the chlorine when it is brand new, but for how long does this filtering last? If the unfiltered chlorine level was high, unlike at my house, i wonder if this filter would even put a dent in the chlorine amount!!! Stay tuned for my weekly result posting. Keep in mind that the filter will be used about once a day by me, and rarely is anyone else using it, so over time we will see just how effective this thing is and how many showers until it is just wasting space.

I bought this product due to its practicality, and non cartridge function. It fits the standard shower unit in my bathroom. I love that the filter unit is medium in size (compared to large shower filters that stick out) and that the filter last several months, before its time for a new one.

We''ve been happy with this product. It seems like it has lasted a while, though it IS hard to tell when you need to get a new one. I do think I might now buy one made with a cartridge so I can just switch that out when the time comes. This has been a good filter though.

Full Circle Reach Bottle Brush, FC10112

Full Circle Reach Bottle Brush, FC10112I use this on my coffee mug I take in the car, my water bottle for the gym and my baby bottles. This is one handy brush! It works better than other bottle brushes because it cleans inside and out at the same time. You can squeeze the handle and really get some leverage around the rim to clean off coffee and lipstick stains. I love that this is dishwasher safe as well. It has lasted forever! I highly recommend this brush.

I found the brush to be very useful and very well made. You can mold the wires holding the bristles enough to get a good cleaning but they aren''t so flexible they provide no scrubbing power. The bristles are harder than a baby bottle brush but softer than the pan scrubbing brush I own, so it''ll get out stuck in residue but shouldn''t damage typical coffee mugs and bottles.

Buy Full Circle Reach Bottle Brush, FC10112 Now

I have only used this for baby bottles, but I think the issues I have would be frustrating for any use. The number one issue I have is that the longer brush unscrews from the handle when you use it. I have to screw it back in between each bottle. Secondly, the bristles have flattened after only moderate use. Lastly, because of the two sided design (which doesn''t really help, I still wash the outside of the bottles with a sponge), you can''t angle the brush to clean one side or the other. I''m not sure if that makes sense, but its annoying.

I got this product because it claimed to be compatible with the original LG. The only issue I had is that its diameter is a bit smaller, so it doesn''t fit snugly in the filter compartment. Other than that I didn''t notice any problem. It''s hard to tell if the quality of the filter is the same, but I didn''t notice a difference in taste.

We purchased this product several months ago. This is a good product, at a cost-effective price. Easy to install. Better that the original.
