Whirlpool 4396841 PUR Push Button Side-by-Side Refrigerator Water Filter
  • NSF certified refrigerator water filter retains beneficial fluoride in water while reducing chlorine taste and odor
  • Also reduces particulates, lead, and mercury
  • This model (4396841) can be used to replace filter models 4396842 and 8212650
  • Does not reduce the amount of fluoride
  • Replace every six months

We purchased a new Whirlpool refrigerator earlier this year. The new refrigerator has all the marvelous improvements developed in the last ten years for refrigerators, including a water filter.

The water filter really does deliver better water. However, the water filter seems quite expensive to me. Whirlpool, and other manufacturer''s that use this type of filter, recommend the filter be replaced twice a year, whether you need to replace the filter or not.

The filter is relatively easy to replace, but be aware of what happens when you pull the filter. To remove the old filter you push a button next to the filter, typically to the left of the filter. Then pull on the cap covering the filter and pull the filter out. Make a note of how the filter was oriented when you pull it out.

The filter will now begin dripping water, so have a paper towel or small bowl available to let the water drip into. You can either let the filter finish dripping into a sink, or throw it into a plastic bag that you can seal to keep the water from dripping out of the bag. Be sure you remove the cover from the filter before you toss it. On our Whirlpool the cover twists counterclockwise for removal.

Install the filter cover onto the new filter. It takes just a twist to lock it into place. Holding the filter so that the two straight pieces on the end of the filter are vertical, with the open portion of the filter cover oriented on the bottom, slide the new filter straight into the filter cavity until the button on the left clicks to let you know the new filter is locked into place. Note that these instructions are for a Whirlpool, but I believe most other refrigerators are similar. You should be ready to go!

Had I known refrigerator water filters were so expensive I might have gone with a refrigerator without one, though our local water has a lot of chlorine in it (which is filtered out by the filter).

As with many modern conveniences, this water filter represents a convenience that you did not know you needed until you had it. Now that I have it, I am wondering whether I want it since I have to spend a chunk of change each year in filter replacements. Oh well. I guess I can sleep more soundly knowing that the water filter is now removing a bunch of stuff from my water that my body either did not want or need.

Good luck!

Overall we have found this to be a great water filter. But we have had our water tested by a professional, both at the tap, and at the filtered tap on the refrigerator. Both waters tested the same for chlorine content, however, the particle contaminants were greatly reduced by the filter on the refrigerator.

Something to note on your water filter.

The light is merely a timed indicator of when they want you to replace the filter. Think of it as a "countdown timer" that starts as soon as you reset it. It is in no way measuring the amount of water you are consuming... Personally, I used to change out the filter every 6 months when the indicator light came on, but we rarely use the water/ice now, so I haven''t changed it (or reset it) in over a year although I probably will soon. I actually cut the first one in half to see how "contaminated" the filter was and to my surprise, it looked like a brand new filter...

The life of a filter depends on a couple of things.

1. The amount of contaminants in your water (well water is typically the worst)

2. The amount of water that passes through the filter

If you have low contaminants and/or use very little filtered water, your filter will last much longer than 6 months. If you pay attention to the amount of water flow and the size of your ice cubes, you can more accurately determine the proper time to replace the filter.

I have county water and we also have installed a "whole house" water filtration system, so I can probably get closer to 2 years out of a filter. Obviously, not everyone has these installed though, just use common sense on when to replace your filter and you''ll be fine.

P.S. Why is it more expensive per unit to buy the 3-pack than it is to buy the 2-pack? Am I the only one that found this odd?

Since I had had previous experience with Pur water filters, we purchased a side-by-side water and ice dispenser Whirlpool fridge over a year ago that uses these filters and they have made a huge difference in the quality of our water. We live in Riverview, FL, a suburb of Tampa, and the water here is so foul that I sometimes wonder if I have an odor from it after I shower. Since it smelled that bad coming from the tap I knew I was not going to drink it, cook with it, nor give it to my cats. So, to save us the expense of buying bottled water, we bought the fridge. Yes, the filters are expensive, but they are Pur water filters which, in my opinion, are better than Brita. I would rather have the expense than get sick drinking nasty water. Since I use the filtered water for just about everything, I have to replace my filter more frequently, but it is well worth the cost.

To save a few bucks, I order my filter online and three at a time; this usually saves me $3-5.00 per filter. Just search for the item number of the filter and you will find several places that sell it either as a single, a three-pack, a four-pack or a six-pack. Obviously, the more you buy, the more you save.

This filter lasted about 7 months for our family of four. It provides crystal clear and very good tasting drinking water. It''s very quick and easy to replace and it can be done in about 30 seconds. The only down side is the cost is a little on the high side and this filter only removes 4 different contaminants. I pay a few more dollars now and get the PUR 4396710 that removes 12 different contaminants including harmful substances like lead, mercury, asbestos. If you want good tasting water then this filter will do the trick. If you want good tasting and healthy water then get the PUR 4396710.

I paid almost as much for this as I would have had to pay in the store, and it has never worked since the day I installed it. I kept thinking that maybe it needed to be in awhile and the bad taste would go away, but it has not. Once in awhile it tastes better for a glass or two, but most of the water and ice are terrible. I had a filter in that came with the refrigerator for two years and never had any bad ice or water, and ever since I changed to this one it has all been bad, so there must be something wrong with the filter. It is supposed to be the exact filter that came with my fridge when it was new according to the website, but it does not work the same. I am not entirely sure if it is even new, perhaps they are recycled or maybe it was just defective, but it is too difficult to try to fix it through the internet and the mail, so now I will be forced to go to the local store and buy another after just paying for a new one. If I were you, I would just get your replacements at a local store, if it doesn''t work right, at least you can take it back easily and exchange it. I will not order one this way again, I will use a hardware store or department or appliance store.

Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Save 20% Off

Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric KettleWe''ve had ours for one month after the cheapo plastic one died. I investigated multiple other high-end electric kettles, including Cuisinart, Chef'' Choice, Krups, Braun by reading reviews on-line and comparing them @ the local bricks & mortar stores. The Breville is clearly the best designed one for the money.

Pros:

clean, beautiful design which is also easier to clean.

hefty, substantial base unit with place to wrap around the cord

boils quickly in 4 min. for full 1.5 L

more substantial kettle than more expensive models by Chef''s Choice or Cuisinart. The Chef''s Tools electric kettle @ the same price point looked flimsier. In fact, the floor model Chef''s Choice kettle was no longer closing or opening its lid properly-always a bad sign when a floor model falls apart.

modest yet easily audible "ping" sound when the water has come to a boil, and the kettle shuts off automatically.

the outlet is easy to pull due to the hollow center design

Cons:

heavy kettle.

occasionally, there''s a metallic taste in reboiled water if the water was left inside the kettle for several hours. However, the water tastes fine if you boil a pot from freshly filled water.

Overall, clearly the pros outweigh the cons. We''re heavy users of the electric kettle, especially in the winter, boiling water for teas, soups at least 4-5x per day. We''ll report back again in a yr after the warranty expires.

UPDATE > 1 yr after post (4/6/08): The Breville Ikon is still going strong. The water seems to be taking a slightly longer time to boil. We still use it 3-4 times per day, and it works well.

UPDATE 12/19/11: Kettle still going strong. We still use it 2-3x/day, and it still works great. Wow. Worth every cent.

While there is typically little difference between any two electric kettles, this one is at least at the top of the spectrum.

1. Being an extremely convenient home appliance "discovered" by the Europeans decades ago, and later in the USA, the electric kettle always left one concern: compared to its mundane predecessor it was typically made of plastic inside and out. Which could potentially mean various unhealthy substances emanating into the water from the plastic sides, especially at high boiling temperatures. This one is made of stainless steel and doesn''t cause any such concerns.

2. The kettle can be rotated on its cordless base, which makes it easier to put it back on the base than some other models.

3. It has a transparent wall segment to measure water level. While this "window" is not located optimally (somewhat shadowed by the handle) and hasn''t got a bright floating level marker, this design is sturdier than some others, and is less prone to leaks.

4. Blue back-light that goes on and lights this "window" when the kettle is switched on, is a nice touch. It both attracts attention and simplifies reading the water level.

5. It''s easy to open the lid, and the opening is wide to add water with no problems or dripping. (In some models the handle partly covers the lid, making it hard to open and/or add water.)

6. Like in most up-to-date models, the heating spiral is NOT located inside the boiling case, but rather underneath it, which makes the design more relaible, and it is also much easier to wash the kettle inside if need be.

7. Time to boil is reasonable and not worse than average.

Buy Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Now

Truly a top notch product. I was tired of lukewarm water "nuked" in the microwave for tea or hot chocolate at the office so, after consulting other customer reviews for products under the "electric kettle" search, I took the plunge. A bit expensive, but worth it.

Pros:

1. Stainless inside and out. No plastic taste or chemical worries.

2. Very comfortable handle, nice curve to it, and totally insulated.

3. Cord minder on the base bottom; allows you to tailor the cord length to your needs. Cord very sturdy.

4. Separate base contains the cord. The kettle itself reminds me, from the standpoint of heft and size, of an "old fashioned" stove top percolator

5. The removable kettle itself; also, you can turn the kettle around to any point on the base; it doesn''t have a notch or fixed position

6. Construction appears to be quite solid. Push a button and the top opens up automatically (not just a cheap spring, either). Glass center insert on top so you can see in; top is also domed to direct condensation back into the pot; haven''t had any problem with water dripping onto the counter (or hand!) when opened.

7. Quick; heating just one mugful of water to boiling is easily faster than the microwave (same time in microwave will leave you with hot, but not boiling water).

8. Easy to clean; the opening is wide enough to get your hand in, and the top opens up to 90 degrees. There is a rod that runs up the inside, part of the temperature sensing system, but there''s room enough to get a soft cloth behind it, you''d just need to avoid too much force. Cleaning, however, is not a big deal overall if you use it for its purpose heating WATER only (don''t heat your soup in this; it''s not made for it).

9. Looking at other reviews, it seems that some people like to fill the kettle via spout rather than main opening spout is nicely sized to easily allow this, if you want.

10. The water gauge is big, well marked and very nicely lighted, thus easy to read.

11. Automatic turn-off at boiling temp, and also has a function to avoid boiling dry (The boil turn-off feature kicks in about 30 seconds after you can see the water boiling; I haven''t personally tried to boil it dry, so can''t comment on that feature). There''s a nice, but soft, single "ding" that it makes when it turns off. You might not hear it from another room, but it shouldn''t damage itself by boiling dry, so even if you miss the ding, it''s not a big deal.

12. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to mine its lines are clean, simple and elegant. Should fit with just about any decor. Fingerprints on the outside stainless haven''t been a big issue; wipes clean with damp cloth.

Comments (not "Cons"):

1. Regarding another reviewer''s comments about weight, it does have some "heft," but on the other hand, it has a good capacity! To heat one or two cups, it''s handy enough. Stainless steel will be heavier than plastic, so if weight is an issue for you, you may wish to consider this point.

2. I wish the otherwise nice switch wasn''t directly at the bottom end of the handle, but this really isn''t a big deal.

3. I''ve seen reviews indicating that stainless steel pots get hot on the outside. This one probably does, too (if you put your hand near it after boiling, you can sense the heat). Well, the handle is perfectly insulated, and this is NOT an insulated device. I wouldn''t put my hand on the outside of any "regular" metal pot or pan (steel or aluminum, like those found in any kitchen for daily cooking)that had a boiling liquid in it, so I wouldn''t do that with this type of device, either!

4. Reviewers of other kettles have suggested that the device may leak if water is left overnight. Have not had that problem with this, but then again, we empty it at the end of each day.

5. Have not had any problems with rust, as has been noted with competing products, but see comments in #4, above.

Before purchasing, I looked at the competition in stores, and a friend has "another leading brand" competetor; this seemed superior to the others in virtually every way (particularly build quality, the others I''d seen seemed rather "cheap" despite their price). Definitely recommend; this is a winner in our office; several people have already bought their own!

First off, Amazon''s part in this was excellent. The product arrived in good shape and ahead of schedule. The kettle itself was well-designed and of excellent quality. There, however, is where the problem started. On opening it, there was a heavy, oily smell. This is not unusual for steel items, so I went about boiling a couple of kettles as recommended in the instructions. After the sixth time, the oily smell was still present, and was strong enough to contaminate the tea. I even tried boiling a water-white vinegar solution and leaving it overnight according to the instruction to no avail. Finally sent it back a process which was painless and quite easy, by the way.

Want Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Discount?

I bought the Breville SK500XL two months ago and use it several times a day; it is indeed a nice looking, high quality electric kettle, and I am satisfied with my purchase. Here are several additional points and issues, beyond what was given in Amazon''s product description:

1. The main complaint I have about this kettle is that the automatic shut-off mechanism, which detects that the water boils and shuts the power off, has a very slow response. I usually boil only one or two cups of water, and by my estimate the kettle shuts off about 30 seconds too late, after the water has boiled. This not only wastes electricity, but also sends considerable amount of steam up the air. The reason for the slow response may be the very wide spout, which lets the early steam out and keeps the sensor cool longer; when I covered the spout the kettle turned itself off much sooner.

So If I happen to stand near the kettle when it starts boiling, then I turn it off myself (it''s a little nuisance; the power switch is small and located at the bottom, under the handle).

2. There is a secondary shut-off mechanism, which kicks in if you turn the kettle on with no water inside. I decided to test it it works!!

3. The kettle''s top cover is clear, but you can not see through as it is always covered with condensation droplets.

4. The power cord has an unusual and helpful plug it has a finger hole in the middle, so you can pull that plug out without pulling on the cord like many people often do.

5. The water level is illuminated in blue, which looks nice in the dark (if you like boiling water with your lights off :-) However the level is located under the handle, which obscures the water level somewhat.

6. When the water gets hot, so does the kettle''s metal body.

Easy to assemble and use.

In 2008, Berkey Light systems were moved to a BPA free material. Yet, they still have the 7 recycle symbol on the bottom.

Search "Berkey Light(tm) systems are now BPA Free":I''ve talked to New Millennium Concepts on the phone. Sometimes they don''t get back to you the same day, but when they do, they will spend as much time answering every question you have about their systems.

Well, we have been using the berkey light water filter for about six months now. The water tastes great. However, my wife put it together when it first came in. Recently, we pulled the filters off to clean the plastic bin. Well, what do you know, there is a #7 on the bottom. I do not suggest buying the Berkey light unless you like adding BPA to your nicely filtered water. After paying 200 dollars I realize I should have gotten the aluminum one.

ProTec Humidifier Tank Cleaning Cartridge Save 24% Off

ProTec PC-1 Humidifier Tank Cleaning CartridgeI''m a medical professional and Mom of 3 kids. I researched this product extensively before using it. I thought I would share what I found: A clinical study was conducted in 2006, which showed this product was extremely effective at killing germs and mold in humidifiers (Journal of Water and Health, vol 4.2, 2006). Also, it''s shown to be very safe and 100% natural (based on natural silver technology...the active ingredient in the cartridge is actually used in many drinking water filters found at the "big box" stores.) One point to mention: it doesn''t remove minerals. If you get stains in your humidifier from iron in your water you''ll need a demineralization product for that (or use filtered or distilled water). I use it and highly recommend it.

After paying well over a hundred dollars for a humidifier, I got so tired of the sloppy job of cleaning slime out of it that I was almost ready to throw the thing away. After replacing its $15.00 filters (every 3 months) that seem to do about nothing, it didn''t seem worth the cost and effort to keep it operating. The unit''s instructions advised me not to use any additives but just clean the thing about every filling and keep replacing those filters as directed. So, since I was going to throw the thing out anyway, I tried one of these cartridges.

It worked. It''s been about a month, and the slime is starting to come back, but that''s supposed to be the effective life of the cartridge. The humidifier survives. I still have to clean it, but the task is now infrequent and easier.

So, it does what it''s supposed to do; does it for as long as it''s supposed to do it; hasn''t harmed the over-priced humidifier; and is good for the environment as long as it keeps this humidifier out of a landfill.

The cartridge costs about $5 and last only 20 days before the filter and the cartridge starting reek. However, I found that Holmes Bacteriastat cost

about $7 and could last for a season and it also extended the life of the filter.

My suggestion is to buy the Bacteriastat.

At the end of the winter season when most of us use a humidifier, we must face the daunting task of cleaning the humidifier before storing it (until next winter).

If you have been conscientious about using a water anti-bacterial additive once a week, then the end of the season cleaning job will not be "too" bad. If not, well, this chore will be more demanding and time-consuming.

This is the first year I have used this product. It is a plastic cage that holds chemicals which promise to keep your humidifier clean. You simply put this thing in your humidifier water tank and the miracle happens. The manufacturer recommends replacing it every month or so. I bought two for our 4 month humidifier/winter season. That seems adequate.

This item looks like something we used to put in our dishwasher to keep the water from spotting... although I am sure the chemicals inside this thing are different.

Anyway, you want to know if it works and is it worth the price.

Yes it works. My humidifier IS cleaner than what it would be without it. Is it worth the price? That depends on the value you put on your time and how hard you are willing to work at the end of the humidifier season to the task of cleaning your humidifier before storing it. I think this "ProTec" product will make the job of cleaning your humidifier very fast and easy. Is that worth $10? That is up to you. What makes this a good investment is knowing your humidifier is being KEPT clean during the months you are using it.

Would I buy this "ProTec PC cleaning cartridge" next year? Yes, I would.

Saeco Odea Giro Plus Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Save 28% Off

Saeco Odea Giro Plus Fully Automatic Espresso MachineI purchased this machine on the "whole latte love" website. It took a week to arrive via ups ground. Upon arrival it was 100% dead. as soon as you turn it on the alarm light turns on and the machine does not do anything. also the optional filter was missing as well. I called the seller that told me to call Saeco, this is their agreement. I called Saeco (Philips) that issued me a promise for replacement

I received this replacement within less then a week, which is great. Initially they "promised" 10-14 days, but changed that after long phone discussions. the second machine arrived and turned on as promised. It made 5 great espresso shots and after the 5th shot the alarm light turned on (again). Nothing helped besides resetting the machine. Every 3-5 cups I need to reset it for the same reasons. The resetting itself takes about 30-40 seconds, but it is pretty unpleasant to need to do this all the time.

In summary, although it makes a good espresso shot and despite good foaming, I would not buy this one again. I think a machine that needs to be re-set every few cups is pretty unreliable.

Also I tried to publish a negative review about it on the wholelatte art website but they did not publish it. i think they filter negative feedbacks so whatever you read there is most likely unreliable as well.

After owning the Saeco Giro Plus for about a month, here are my observations

Pros:

Great tasting coffee! Very strong without tasting bitter. Rich creme.

Affordable price. Paid $400 from a "club" store.

Relatively quiet compared to my sister''s super-automatic Krups.

Cons:

After installing the water filter, the water storage is pretty low, 3 cups of Americano at most.

Machine is very finicky (will go more in detail later)

The "cup warmer" feature is a joke, only thing it can warm are ice cubes.

Here''s a list of stuff that might cause the warning light to go off.

Solid Warning Light:

Steam knob not turned all the way off (need to click in place)

Water is low (20% full is still considered low, sensor goes by weight it seems)

Drip tray is full

Slow Blinking Warning Light:

Brew group not inserted properly (DON''T hold the Push button when inserting, it should click in)

Grounds bin not inserted (the sensor is finicky, sometimes you need to pull out and push in again)

Fast Blinking Warning Light (hot water dispensing light will also be on):

Machine needs to be primed (while the hot water dispensing light is on turn the steam knob on till the red light goes away)

Don''t forget to rinse the brew unit in hot water (no soap) once a week. This will prevent build up of oils and sludge.

This is a review by a Coffee Fanatic who has owned several machines, including the $8000 industrial version. I had the Vienna Plus for 8 months and decided to give that away to get the Odea Go. It does not matter which model you get, all the Odeas have the same BMW mechanics and design. All work the same way. So I''ll give a comparison for your own judgement.

The Vienna Plus had more water in the dredge drawer.. so much that I first thought the machine was leaking!! Found out that IS the way the machine works.. But the machine was bigger than the Odea, so it had room. I had to clean it out every 6-8 cups made.

The Vienna also allowed me to see the water level, so it was easy to refill.

Now for the ODEA:

Doesn''t matter which model Odea you get, they''re the same build. I was impressed by the BMW-designed mechanics, so I bought it for the sleeker look. Smaller unti fitted well on the small kitchen counter I have.

MAKES STRONGER COFFEE than other models of Saeco that I''ve tried/borrowed/owned/tasted. It''s able to extract more flavor.

PROBLEMS:

1. The water container is smaller than the Vienna. And the tank is hidden, so you can NOT see when it''s time to refill. YOU MUST refill before it''s down to 2 cups left, because the light weight will make the sensor stop working. The sensor is not by water, but by weight of water!

2. The coffee lid can''t be opened while the machine is ON. The other models can. This is weird.. because I used to be able to refill the Vienna while it''s brewing.

3. The dredge drawer needs to be emptied for every 3-4 cups of coffee brewed!! Though it''s not really full, the sensor will not let you brew coffee with water in this drawer!! So you will end up cleaning this every 4 cups max.

4. The drawer can''t be seen, the spills can''t be seen, because of the sleek design, everything is covered. And everything is BLACK, so you can''t see whether you''ve cleaned it very well. Coffee grinds may be hidden in places you can''t see... all gray and black plastic!!

WHEN MY NEW MACHINE WAS 5 WEEKS OLD, THE 3 RED LIGHTS FLASHED QUICKLY which means electrical problems. Turning it off and on did not help. Calling the manufacturer, diagnosed over the phone, and ended up to have to replace it with a new one. IT SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING.

Making the story short: I am now on my third Odea -only because they won''t let me get a different one even if I offered additional money to upgrade. And I''m not about to waste over $600 for a couple of months'' use.

I have tried quite a few machines. This is by far my favorite. Every shot is perfect and the crema is gorgeous too. The panarella wand makes perfect froth of microscopic bubbles. I am a latte fanatic and my lattes are gorgeous. When I was researching this machine, I came across a youtube video of a woman that was comparing frothing and showing how to do it on this machine, and basically saying that this machine sucks. She is an idiot. She seriously does not know how to froth milk with a home machine. Maybe her method (no skill whatsoever) works on an industrial machine. Anyway, don''t pay attention to her if you come across that video. The reason I didn''t give her or any of the negative reviews too much credit is because my sister, who is a personal chef, swears by her Saeco, so I just trusted her. I am really glad I did. A couple of my friends have also bought Saeco machines after using mine. I so prefer my Saeco to the high-end machine we have at work. The shot the other one produces is just as good, but the frothing on the Saeco is substantially superior.

So, a few notes: Yes, the machine is a bit finicky. You do learn quickly what the lights mean when they blink or hold solid or whatever. It takes a bit of just looking up the error message and fixing the issue. The issue is never a big deal. Just clean the dreg container or provide more water (it has a kind of small receptacle). Or, fill up the coffee bean container. But, you have to do stuff like that with every machine, unless you spend $$s to hook one up to a water line or whatever.

Anyway, I have had really good luck with my machine and I would buy another one. And, if it does break down, I would take the effort to find a shop to repair it. I did accidentally drop my panarella wand into the disposal and wrecked it. I called the company and they worked with me to get me the right part for a decent price. Good luck with your decision!!

Well, I finally dumped my $2000 Livia 90 after having this unit in place for a few weeks. My wife just hated the Espresso mess of the big machine and grinder (I never cleaned up). This system is fully contained, no mess at all, and it makes a GREAT Espresso. Don''t miss the Livia 90 at all.

You will not be disappointed, but definitively opt for the GIRO over the GO and get the OptiDose selectable Espresso Dose, it makes a difference to get the ''pull'' YOU like. Adding to the selection of volume on the front knob, is a single, double, triple doser selection adjusting 5-10grams of grinds.

CRYSTAL QUEST Mega Undersink Replaceable Double Fluoride Water Filter System Save 8% Off

CRYSTAL QUEST Mega Undersink Replaceable Double Fluoride Water Filter System
  • Eagle Redox Alloy® is a major advancement in water treatment technology that works on the electro-chemical and spontaneous-oxidation-reduction (REDOX) principles. Chlorine is instantaneously and almost inexhaustibly oxidized.
  • Easy to use and install on most sinks.
  • Please note: When considering installation, if current under sink plumbing is hard copper tubing the saddle valve would be used; for flex tubing the T-valve would be required. Saddle valve is sent with order unless T-valve is specified.
  • Dimensions: 10"L x 14"H (10"+4" to change cartridge) x 5"W

I installed the 7 stage under sink fluoride, lead, arsenic filter last weekend and I am very impressed so far.

The installation was easy, but the instructions state that you must be a licensed plumber to do the install or the warranty is void. The system uses a saddle-valve to tap into the existing water line. This type of valve can be risky and are against code in some areas.

The overall quality is great. The faucet we received is different than the one pictured...for the better. It has an actual lever with a variable flow setting...instead of the cheasy-older black levers that you have to hold down.

I live in Minnesota where we have VERY hard water and the city does add fluoride. Please note that our city supplied water goes through a whole house carbon/sediment filter before it reaches the Crystal Quest unit. Nonetheless Our water was slimy and somewhat bitter before the filter was installed..After it tastes great. It tastes exactly like good bottled water. BUT NOT LIKE RO. I recommend against RO due to its lack of minerals and once you get used to it all other water tastes gross.

Overall, very pleased with the purchase.

Didn''t come with all the parts it needed. My son ended up buying parts to install it. Then it started to leak.

The water tasted better with this hooked up. That was the big plus.

Essick Air 1041 Replacement Console WickI am writing this review to counter its current 1-star rating (from a review based solely on a marketplace SELLER and not the actual product).

This product is what it is ~ a replacement wick for some Bemis and Essick humidifiers. We bought this for our Bemis ED11-800 and our Bemis 4D7-800 and it works great. No white dusts. We had tried cheaper replacement wicks and they just didn''t work as well.

Amazon definitely had the best price at the time we got these at under $13 shipping included PLUS a 4 for the price of 3 promo.

I have two Essick humidifiers in my house, and though one is a fairly old model, and the other is brand new, they both continue to use the same exact filter, which is really great because I don''t have to deal with two different kinds of filters.

These filters are meant to last one winter season, and then when Spring comes, they get tossed into the garbage. I have been using this brand, the 1041, filter now for about 10 years. It''s always stayed the same quality, and has never failed in all this time. So, I am very happy with the filter, and can recommend it as a "buy" for those who have need for this model.

Filter is easy to install and remove. Best to change yearly as recommended; managed to stretch it to two years after a year of low usage; would not recommend.
