Black & Decker DCM2500B SmartBrew Coffeemaker

Black & Decker DCM2500B SmartBrew CoffeemakerBecause we''re serious about our coffee, we sold our old $100+ Cuisinart coffeemaker to be replaced with this much better designed and much easier to use coffee maker.

A motel room we stayed at had this model coffee maker. We used it twice a day for 10 days. The coffee was delicious and we found no minuses at all, so I bought one. We''ve been using it daily now for about three months.

The carafe is made of heavy duty glass and doesn''t drip at all. The hole to pour water into is large and easy to get to. There are convenient and accurate water level windows on both sides of the unit. The controls are convenient, easy to understand, and easy to use. The basket is easily removed for cleaning, easy to position, and uses standard flat bottomed filters. The time and function displays are large and bright. All of these are comparative problem areas in the Cuisinart.

Programming works perfectly and is so simple to use we didn''t need the manual. To set the time of day press the "Hours" button until it reaches the current hour and then the "Minutes" button. To set the "Auto on" time, press the "Program" button, and then set the start time the same way. Press the "Program" button again to go back to time of day. For auto start, press the "Auto on" button, which lights up. That''s it.

In addition, the water enters the drip chamber in a shower rather than a stream, resulting in consistently smooth and uniform tasting coffee. I can''t comment on the warming plate because we put what we don''t drink immediately into a Thermos for all day use. The warming plate shuts itself off after two hours if you forget.

The negative reviews are a puzzle to me. We found none of the problems mentioned.

This is an addendum in mid Nov, 2007. The coffeemaker still makes perfect coffee and everything works like new. The only negative I''d add is that the warming plate is quite rusty, probably because I put a pot of tap water on it at night to have chlorine free water in the morning. Often the pot is damp. When we need to replace this coffeemaker, I''ll paint the new warming plate with bar-b-cue paint before the first use, for rust protection.

This is an update, dated 11/20/07. The coffeemaker still works perfectly and still looks good. I sanded the rust off of the base plate, painted it with bar-b-cue paint, and as expected there is no more rust problem. I don''t think the rust would occur for most people. I caused it by putting a wet pot on the plate overnight seven days a week.

I drink lots of coffee in lots of places. I''ve had the terrible plasticky coffee from the $10 drippers and very fine pressed coffee from the shops.

This is my third Black & Decker (more on that later) and continues to benefit from design upgrades and improvements. I found this dripper to be the top of the line inexpensive coffeemaker. Mine came with the resusable filter, but I find that using the disposable filters (for me) makes a slightly stronger and better coffee.

The program feature was a little counter-intuitive for me, but only took 30 seconds once informed to master. Wake up to my coffeemaker''s aroma. Warning: The first time I tried to make coffee, the carafe didn''t push the sticking, new drip basket arm in and I had a little overflow. Apparently, it was because the machine was new and it now works flawlessly. But you might want to make sure it drips properly the first time or two you use it.

I mentioned earlier that this is my third machine from this family. It''s not Black & Decker''s fault that I live in an area with extremely hard, unprocessed well water. All water processing appliances (like my water heater) get clogged up with time, even with proper maintenance. These machines have lasted better than the old, bottom line machines I started out with, and longer than a more expensive one I bought.

Since the trend seems to be the production and purchase of items that make phone calls, play mp3s, serve as calulators, take pictures, play movies and change the cat litter box, this coffeemaker may not impress some people. It just makes coffee. It uses normal coffee filters (the flat bottom type), brews the coffee and turns off the warming plate after two hours. It does not do anything else. I, personally LIKE that. After all, how many mp3 players does one need? What kind of tech-crazy person wants to make phone calls on their coffee maker? Who can talk before they have had their first cup of coffee in the first place?

If you are looking for a coffee maker that just makes coffee and does it rapidly and without any complicated instructions that must be followed (who can follow complicated instructions before their first cup of coffee, either?) then this would be a good choice. If you want to film a movie with your coffee maker, this is not the coffee maker for you.

We have used this maker daily for about three years. The Good:

Timer, decent coffee (once you get the balance, keeps coffee hot, Pour and serve and reliable. The Bad: Steam leaks onto the burner which has rusted, takes more coffee than others on the market, overflows if you grind your coffee too fine or if basket is not aligned correctly. Overall we are happy with the coffee maker and it is still serving us well.

I agree with the reviewers who have said "what is the fuss about?". This is a GREAT coffee maker. I have had no problems at all so far and having owned several different brands previously, I would say this one is the best I''ve owned for being so inexpensive.

The automatic setting is really fantastic as you can set the maker to make coffee whenever you need it to. You don''t have to use this feature and if you want to, you can make coffee in the pot even if you have it set on the automatic feature and the automatic settings won''t be disturbed.

The coffee stays hot in the pot for a long time and doesn''t get any of the overdone or burnt flavor that I''ve experienced with some other makers.

I haven''t had a single problem with drips from the pot and think that it does a really fine job when you pour. I don''t know what some people''s problem is with this feature. I think maybe it says more about the sloppiness of those pouring than the design of the coffeemaker!

I can''t say I''ve used the interrupt feature because this machine doesn''t take long at all to brew a pot and I have not needed to interrupt it in order to grab a quick cup.

I honestly don''t know what the negative reviewers were expecting. This is a fine machine that does the job and is a great value for all of its features. It also looks great in the black model and fits very nicely in my stainless kitchen.

I highly recommend this coffeemaker! I am so glad I ignored the negative reviews because this machine works great and was a bargain.

KRUPS FMF514 Programmable 10-Cup Coffee Maker

KRUPS FMF514 Programmable 10-Cup Coffee Maker with Double Wall Thermal Carafe and LED control panel, BlackKrups FMF5-14 10-cup programmable coffee machine, black.

I just don''t understand all the negative reviews about this Krups Coffee Maker. Was there a plastic smell while brewing? Yes, but only the first time running only water through the machine & not at all since. Were there air bubbles in the gauge that tells you how many cups you are brewing? Again yes the first time I used it with water only. All I had to do is remove the plastic indicator, blow through it and presto no more bubbles. It really isn''t rocket science.

I am not a a light coffee drinker & I have about 3-4 mugs a day, my coffee is very important to me, so when I read all the negative reviews about this coffee maker I panicked. I went out and bought a Cussinart Thermal Coffee Maker instead, that was a mistake.

I used to belong to the Gevalia Coffee Club & when I joined I got a free 12 cup non-thermal coffee maker. It made/makes great coffee. It is the one I have been using for over 8 years. I had learned years ago that even though it had the Gevalia name on it, it was actually made by Krups. I should of ignored the bad reviews of the Krup FMF5 Thermal Coffee Maker & go with a brand I know works great.

I returned my Cussinart, got this coffee maker & couldn''t be happier. This Krups makes great coffee, keeps it hot for hours & is hassle free. It also has some nice features like a water filter in the reservoir & an empty reservoir warning just to name a few. There is no plastic taste in the coffee.

So just follow the simple instructions & recommendations, sit back & enjoy a great cup of coffee. Come back in a few hours & you can do the same.

This is my first Thermal Coffee Maker. I hate the burnt taste of old coffee but heard the thermal ones aren''t hot or are slow or noisy. This one is outstanding. It is quiet, programmable and brews very quickly. Morning coffee is actually hot and fresh at lunch (I did NOT have to prewarm the pot that would be hard the night before!). It is not too tall, easy to clean, and seems reasonably priced. The fill line is easy to see. You can fit a #4 golden filter easily. It is programmable for 1-3 cups, I bet they don''t stay hot as long if not pre-warmed. It comes with an optional filter insert which we don''t use since we have a Brita on our faucet. Only potential draw back is the 10 cup capacity (I had a 12 cup one before). Yeah, no more broken glas pots!

I bought this Krups to replace a beloved Krups thermal carafe that sadly passed on. This new model features too many flaws. For one, the swing-open filter door doesn''t always engage. Minor issue. If you pour your water into the machine too quickly, bubbles can form in the window, so you''re never quite sure how much is in the machine. Further, my model always seems to leak both water and brewed coffee from the bottom of the machine. Granted, it''s only the size of a quarter or half-dollar, but you don''t expect this from a Krups. Finally, the carafe, itself, pours so broadly that leaks are inevitable. Sadly, this product does not live up to the Krups'' reputation.

Like many others, I purchased this POC to replace a previous Krups machine that I was very happy with. I read the mixed reviews on Amazon but decided to give it a shot since my history with Krups had been successful. That was a mistake.

I have three main beefs with this machine:

1. Water guage

2. Poor carafe design

3. Lukewarm coffee temp

The previous reviews about the water guage are true. I always measure the coffee grounds to water ratio when making my coffee. 9 times out of 10 when you pour water into the machine, the guage immediately bubbles up and renders it useless. It may as well not even be included in the machine.

Like other reviews mentioned, pouring coffee out of the carafe can be messy. The coffee doesn''t pour smoothly and consequently leaves the top of the carafe wet with overspill. I''m not sure how this got past Quality Control being an obvious flaw.

Lastly, the temperature of the coffee simply is not hot enough. I enjoy my coffee hot and find myself having to either pour small cups or quickly drink it before it gets too cold. This was surprising considering that I never had this issue my previous machine.

For the money, look elsewhere and don''t make the same mistake I did.

This Krups family of FME / FMF coffee makers I bought to replace an old Braun coffee maker of very similar style which, while it still worked, had a bad habit of spilling over the top of the filter every few weeks. And, I wanted the program ahead and insulated carafe features, so I was looking forward to this model.

Like some other new electrical kitchen appliances I have bought, I was amazed when some aspects of the new machine did not work as well as the older model I was replacing. In this case, it is the fact that when you remove the filter holder, it cannot sit by itself on the counter while you open the filter and insert it, and fill it with coffee. This may be a small thing, but it daily makes my task of making coffee more complicated.

Several other reviewers complain about the quality of the coffee made by this machine. I am an ''8 o''Clock'' cheap brand coffee drinker from way back, so all I can say is that with this very ordinary coffee, it seems to do about as good a job as the old Braun. It does seem a bit weak, but that may be due to the water filtration gizmo. Meanwhile, I really like the automatic shutoff and keep warm carafe features. They work as advertised.

I am thoroughly pleased with this shower head. Our water has so much chlorine in it, I felt like I was in a public pool everytime I took a shower. I started to have health problems and always felt sluggish after I got out of the shower. I did extensive research on dechlorinating filters and this one looked the best because it worked well with hot water when the others didn''t. My hair and skin feels great and my health has gotten better since i''ve used it. I''ve had it for about a year now and right now i''m looking to buy another relacement cartridge. Its easy to install and its nice being able to take it out of the holder and reach everywhere. Its got 2 different settingsa jet and a nice drenching shower-basically all you really need.

Fleck 5600 SXT Timer Coconut Shell Carbon Filter 10'' x 54''; 1.5 CFI wanted the best, so I bought this water system from a local water Supply Company that use it themselves. Only later did I find it here on Amazon, and at a much lower price, including shipping. However, I have it and it''s Great!!! I was told it could last 25 years easily because of the back wash. I installed a long hose where the back wash waters my yard plants.

Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Save 20% Off

Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric KettleWe''ve had ours for one month after the cheapo plastic one died. I investigated multiple other high-end electric kettles, including Cuisinart, Chef'' Choice, Krups, Braun by reading reviews on-line and comparing them @ the local bricks & mortar stores. The Breville is clearly the best designed one for the money.

Pros:

clean, beautiful design which is also easier to clean.

hefty, substantial base unit with place to wrap around the cord

boils quickly in 4 min. for full 1.5 L

more substantial kettle than more expensive models by Chef''s Choice or Cuisinart. The Chef''s Tools electric kettle @ the same price point looked flimsier. In fact, the floor model Chef''s Choice kettle was no longer closing or opening its lid properly-always a bad sign when a floor model falls apart.

modest yet easily audible "ping" sound when the water has come to a boil, and the kettle shuts off automatically.

the outlet is easy to pull due to the hollow center design

Cons:

heavy kettle.

occasionally, there''s a metallic taste in reboiled water if the water was left inside the kettle for several hours. However, the water tastes fine if you boil a pot from freshly filled water.

Overall, clearly the pros outweigh the cons. We''re heavy users of the electric kettle, especially in the winter, boiling water for teas, soups at least 4-5x per day. We''ll report back again in a yr after the warranty expires.

UPDATE > 1 yr after post (4/6/08): The Breville Ikon is still going strong. The water seems to be taking a slightly longer time to boil. We still use it 3-4 times per day, and it works well.

UPDATE 12/19/11: Kettle still going strong. We still use it 2-3x/day, and it still works great. Wow. Worth every cent.

While there is typically little difference between any two electric kettles, this one is at least at the top of the spectrum.

1. Being an extremely convenient home appliance "discovered" by the Europeans decades ago, and later in the USA, the electric kettle always left one concern: compared to its mundane predecessor it was typically made of plastic inside and out. Which could potentially mean various unhealthy substances emanating into the water from the plastic sides, especially at high boiling temperatures. This one is made of stainless steel and doesn''t cause any such concerns.

2. The kettle can be rotated on its cordless base, which makes it easier to put it back on the base than some other models.

3. It has a transparent wall segment to measure water level. While this "window" is not located optimally (somewhat shadowed by the handle) and hasn''t got a bright floating level marker, this design is sturdier than some others, and is less prone to leaks.

4. Blue back-light that goes on and lights this "window" when the kettle is switched on, is a nice touch. It both attracts attention and simplifies reading the water level.

5. It''s easy to open the lid, and the opening is wide to add water with no problems or dripping. (In some models the handle partly covers the lid, making it hard to open and/or add water.)

6. Like in most up-to-date models, the heating spiral is NOT located inside the boiling case, but rather underneath it, which makes the design more relaible, and it is also much easier to wash the kettle inside if need be.

7. Time to boil is reasonable and not worse than average.

Buy Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Now

Truly a top notch product. I was tired of lukewarm water "nuked" in the microwave for tea or hot chocolate at the office so, after consulting other customer reviews for products under the "electric kettle" search, I took the plunge. A bit expensive, but worth it.

Pros:

1. Stainless inside and out. No plastic taste or chemical worries.

2. Very comfortable handle, nice curve to it, and totally insulated.

3. Cord minder on the base bottom; allows you to tailor the cord length to your needs. Cord very sturdy.

4. Separate base contains the cord. The kettle itself reminds me, from the standpoint of heft and size, of an "old fashioned" stove top percolator

5. The removable kettle itself; also, you can turn the kettle around to any point on the base; it doesn''t have a notch or fixed position

6. Construction appears to be quite solid. Push a button and the top opens up automatically (not just a cheap spring, either). Glass center insert on top so you can see in; top is also domed to direct condensation back into the pot; haven''t had any problem with water dripping onto the counter (or hand!) when opened.

7. Quick; heating just one mugful of water to boiling is easily faster than the microwave (same time in microwave will leave you with hot, but not boiling water).

8. Easy to clean; the opening is wide enough to get your hand in, and the top opens up to 90 degrees. There is a rod that runs up the inside, part of the temperature sensing system, but there''s room enough to get a soft cloth behind it, you''d just need to avoid too much force. Cleaning, however, is not a big deal overall if you use it for its purpose heating WATER only (don''t heat your soup in this; it''s not made for it).

9. Looking at other reviews, it seems that some people like to fill the kettle via spout rather than main opening spout is nicely sized to easily allow this, if you want.

10. The water gauge is big, well marked and very nicely lighted, thus easy to read.

11. Automatic turn-off at boiling temp, and also has a function to avoid boiling dry (The boil turn-off feature kicks in about 30 seconds after you can see the water boiling; I haven''t personally tried to boil it dry, so can''t comment on that feature). There''s a nice, but soft, single "ding" that it makes when it turns off. You might not hear it from another room, but it shouldn''t damage itself by boiling dry, so even if you miss the ding, it''s not a big deal.

12. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to mine its lines are clean, simple and elegant. Should fit with just about any decor. Fingerprints on the outside stainless haven''t been a big issue; wipes clean with damp cloth.

Comments (not "Cons"):

1. Regarding another reviewer''s comments about weight, it does have some "heft," but on the other hand, it has a good capacity! To heat one or two cups, it''s handy enough. Stainless steel will be heavier than plastic, so if weight is an issue for you, you may wish to consider this point.

2. I wish the otherwise nice switch wasn''t directly at the bottom end of the handle, but this really isn''t a big deal.

3. I''ve seen reviews indicating that stainless steel pots get hot on the outside. This one probably does, too (if you put your hand near it after boiling, you can sense the heat). Well, the handle is perfectly insulated, and this is NOT an insulated device. I wouldn''t put my hand on the outside of any "regular" metal pot or pan (steel or aluminum, like those found in any kitchen for daily cooking)that had a boiling liquid in it, so I wouldn''t do that with this type of device, either!

4. Reviewers of other kettles have suggested that the device may leak if water is left overnight. Have not had that problem with this, but then again, we empty it at the end of each day.

5. Have not had any problems with rust, as has been noted with competing products, but see comments in #4, above.

Before purchasing, I looked at the competition in stores, and a friend has "another leading brand" competetor; this seemed superior to the others in virtually every way (particularly build quality, the others I''d seen seemed rather "cheap" despite their price). Definitely recommend; this is a winner in our office; several people have already bought their own!

First off, Amazon''s part in this was excellent. The product arrived in good shape and ahead of schedule. The kettle itself was well-designed and of excellent quality. There, however, is where the problem started. On opening it, there was a heavy, oily smell. This is not unusual for steel items, so I went about boiling a couple of kettles as recommended in the instructions. After the sixth time, the oily smell was still present, and was strong enough to contaminate the tea. I even tried boiling a water-white vinegar solution and leaving it overnight according to the instruction to no avail. Finally sent it back a process which was painless and quite easy, by the way.

Want Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7-Liter Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle Discount?

I bought the Breville SK500XL two months ago and use it several times a day; it is indeed a nice looking, high quality electric kettle, and I am satisfied with my purchase. Here are several additional points and issues, beyond what was given in Amazon''s product description:

1. The main complaint I have about this kettle is that the automatic shut-off mechanism, which detects that the water boils and shuts the power off, has a very slow response. I usually boil only one or two cups of water, and by my estimate the kettle shuts off about 30 seconds too late, after the water has boiled. This not only wastes electricity, but also sends considerable amount of steam up the air. The reason for the slow response may be the very wide spout, which lets the early steam out and keeps the sensor cool longer; when I covered the spout the kettle turned itself off much sooner.

So If I happen to stand near the kettle when it starts boiling, then I turn it off myself (it''s a little nuisance; the power switch is small and located at the bottom, under the handle).

2. There is a secondary shut-off mechanism, which kicks in if you turn the kettle on with no water inside. I decided to test it it works!!

3. The kettle''s top cover is clear, but you can not see through as it is always covered with condensation droplets.

4. The power cord has an unusual and helpful plug it has a finger hole in the middle, so you can pull that plug out without pulling on the cord like many people often do.

5. The water level is illuminated in blue, which looks nice in the dark (if you like boiling water with your lights off :-) However the level is located under the handle, which obscures the water level somewhat.

6. When the water gets hot, so does the kettle''s metal body.

Neoperl 0.35 Gpm Super LOW FLOW / Multiple Laminar Spray Stream Bathroom Faucet Aerator Save 42% Off

Neoperl 0.35 Gpm Super LOW FLOW / Multiple Laminar Spray Stream Bathroom Faucet AeratorThis is the lowest flow aerator I was able to find anywhere. While it does a good job regulating the water flow, they simply used the same aerator housing as the 0.5 and 1.0 gpm models. The 1.0 gpm model shoots the water out too hard, and it ends up splashing water everywhere, while the 0.5 gpm model has good output.

There are too many holes for the water to come out of, thus all the streams are very weak. This also causes the streams to link and merge with each other, which looks bad, as if your faucet was very low end. Although there''s 18 holes, sometimes you''ll get three lumped up streams out of this aerator.

The combination of having the lowest water flow and very weak outgoing pressure seriously slows you down when it comes to washing your hands and brushing teeth. While 0.15 gpm may not seem like much, the 0.5 gpm models allow you to wash significantly faster.

If you really want to use water as efficiently as possible, you''re patient, and you aren''t concerned with the appearance of the water streams, then this is a product worth considering. But for most people looking to conserve water, the 0.5 gpm model already limits the flow to a tiny fraction of a standard aerator while still allowing for time efficient washing.

This low flow aerator helps us save water when Overnight RV parking. It shipped quick and installed easily. I highly recommend this for avid boondocking RV''rs.

Big Berkey Water Filter System With 2 9" Ceramic Filters & 2 PF-4 Fluoride Filters

Big Berkey Water Filter System With 2 9'' Ceramic Filters & 2 PF-4 Fluoride FiltersThis is the fifth Big Berkey unit that I have purchased over the past ten years. I keep one at home and at work and they are in constant use in both locations. The others have been given to our kids and family around the country.

They have all been very well made, bullet-proof, and deliver clean good-tasting water. All have been fitted with the second set of membrane filters in the lower chamber to remove fluoride and heavy metals, too. Though these filters can be easily moved about within a home or office, they are large and need a dedicated area for their location.

Highly recommended!

The product that was recieved was very basic. Made up of a metal framework and rubber washers and stoppers, it was a portable design. However there seems to be a lot of leaks with this design since even though i loosen it and tighten it back up, some water still seeps through the cracks. My main pet peeve is that the place where i pour water is leaking and i have to have my pet''s bowl of water and a towel underneath. Other than the leaking which doesn''t bother me THAT much, the water is fantastic. The 4 filters i have set up with this system makes my water taste so refreshing that i can drink cup after cup and never get that "This isn''t water" feeling. If you drink regular tap water you know what i''m talking about; you drink a little bit of it and stop because of either the taste or how it makes you feel. With this water, you won''t notice that and you''ll continue drinking it. My family replaced tap water with juices, and bottled water from all sorts of brands(Smart water being one of our favorites) and this water will save you hundreds and will pay for itself within a few months. Maybe your system will work better than mine without the leaks, but the water it produces is well worth the puddles.

I have had my portable "Go" Berkey for several months now and take it with me everywhere I travel. Hotels in the US, friends houses, foreign destinations everywhere! In fact, I like it so much, that I then purchased the "Big Berkey" that holds 2.25 gallons. I was so impressed with this, that I then purchased the Colossal "Crown" Berkey that holds 6.5 gallons! My 6 member family is happy with all three and they are an indispensable part of our lives. We emphasize copious water consumption and these the most logical, efficient and cost effective means of accomplishing this.

We have missionary friends in primitive areas of India and Africa who have also found the Berkey system to play a critical role in their lives. Everyone is happy with its performance.

Regarding those who say it "leaks", I can authoritatively say that the spigot only leaks for those who don''t know how to "screw a lid on tight" or don''t know how to properly connect a hose onto a faucet. The only "leak" issue that potential purchasers will need to be prepared for, is that it can be overfilled, causing the water to leak out between the upper and lower chambers.

Obviously, if the upper chamber is overfilled, it will cause the lower chamber to overfill, resulting in a overflow between the two. This is only a problem for those who are unprepared.

Screw on the spigot well and don''t overfill, and you won''t have any problems.

This is truly a professional product, that is NOT just a water filter it is a very sophisticated water purifier. It does what it is supposed to do and does it very, very well. It is exceptionally well built and performs flawlessly.

Don''t be misled by those who are misinformed and don''t know the basic fundamentals of how to screw on a faucet. I now own three of them and have no regrets.

It''s operation is simple. It''s performance is stellar. It''s quality is unrivaled. And the end product is truly life saving!

Buy it with confidence. Use it with unbridled trust. Foreign workers all over the world depend on it and you can too!

My wife and daughter were very skeptical about using a filter for our tap water as opposed to drinking bottled water. The first thing that I did after putting this together was taste the bottled water that we had in the house and then immediately taste this water right after. I immediately noticed that the Berkey water felt much softer on the tongue and had no aftertaste what so ever. It was weird because I had never noticed that bottled water had an aftertaste because my only reference before this was tap vs. bottled. Later that day I gave my wife and daughter the taste test. Both of them chose the Berkey filtered water hands down. I now have water for my family that I don''t have to worry about fluoride or bisphenol a leaching from the plastic bottles into our bodies. One of the best purchasing decisions I have ever made!

Want Big Berkey Water Filter System With 2 9" Ceramic Filters & 2 PF-4 Fluoride Filters Discount?

The water filtered by this unit tastes great. I had the filter sent to a family member living in a city that dumps in both chlorine and fluoride. The multiple-step filtering process takes a while, but it is worth the wait to have the toxic waste and any other contaminates out. The stainless steel unit is attractive and small enough to fit in limited space.

Brita Water Pitcher Replacement Filter Save 53% Off

Brita Water Filter Pitcher Replacement Filters, 4 CountWe always kept two boxes of these on hand as replacements when we used our Brita filter pitcher (we went to an in-line because we drink so much filtered water --we''d go through 40 gallons in no time, but that is a LOT of water.) There are three "gotcha''s" on these filters to be aware of:

1. Do not let the filter dry out. When the pitcher is empty, you should refill the reservoir right away. When the pitcher is full or partly full, the bottom of the filter is in the water and keeping moist.

2. The filter needs to be soaked and flushed exactly according to directions. Some of the charcoal packing comes off in the flushing process, and if you don''t take care of it, you will have specks in the water. This is no big problem, just something to be aware of.

3. Never put overly warm or hot water through the filter.

If you follow the directions, you will have, as we did, gallons of water that cost a lot less and taste as good or better than the water you buy in plastic containers in the supermarket.

I have been using Brita filters for over six years now and I have nothing but the best to say about them. Living in a part of the country where the tap water contains impurities resulting in poor taste, at first I resorted to bottled water. Besides being hard on the old wallet, I found that some brands had a burnt aftertaste to them. So I tried Brita. I was amazed at how it improved the taste of ordinary tap water. It tasted better than some bottled water I had been purchasing and it was crystal clear. I have been using Brita ever since. The only drawback initially is the cost of the pitcher, but once you have it the only other cost are the filters that are readily available at most stores. Each filter lasts about 40 gallons, which translates into getting bottled water quality for seventeen cents per gallon.

In California the water tends to be very hard. I purchased an under the sink two stage water filtration system and thought the problem would be solved. The water still tasted bad so I bought a Brita pitcher filter. Unbelievable! It tasted so good. I think it''s because each filter has silver oxide particles mixed in with the charcoal and it softens the water very well. I wish I would have tried this filter first.

Since moving to the east coast I still find that these filters do a great job at making the water taste as good or better than bottled water at a fraction of the cost.

The Brita pitcher water filtering system is a good idea if you have problems with your tap water. Filtered water is a much lower cost than bottled water and as long as your tap is running, you can have an almost endless supply.

I live in New York City. The water quality is variable at best. The city constantly monitors water and "adjusts" additives to combat bacteria and other pollutants. Often, especially in the summer months, the chlorine level is very high.

The Brita filter takes care of the chlorine problem and removes other additives, as well.

The result is clear, fresh & pure tasting water that is excellent for drinking, cooking, beverage making and ice cubes (bad ice cubes can ruin a drink.)

Heed the instructions about filter replacement. The filters are rated at 40 US gallons each. If you exceed the recommended filter "life", you will definitely notice diminished results. This is especially noticeable with chlorinated water. The smell returns and the filtered water does not taste as good any more.

All-in-all, this is an excellent filter, but it''s no speed demon.

The only real problems I''ve noticed are with the pitcher timer breaking and the poor results if you leave the filter in the pitcher too long (beyond the 40 gallon estimated limit.)

Also, do not allow the filter to dry out once you''ve started using it.

Buying the larger packages of filters saves money and is worth it, in the long run.

I noticed that the Brita cartridges did not take out a lot of color from the water I put in. Later I found out that it was rated Class 5 on NSF''s scale by looking up the NSF site, Class 5 means 85% reduction of particles between 30 to 50 microns. The scale is a 6-step scale with Class 1 being the best. After checking with the Greater Vancouver Water District, our sediment particle size in the water averages 2.5 microns No wonder the water coming through the cartridges is still yellowish brown in color!

Dettol Antiseptic Liquid from England 750ml Bottle Save 22% Off

Dettol Antiseptic Liquid from England 750ml BottleAfter using it for 14 days, this is my review. It is very easy to use mix with water and fill it in a spray bottle. I use it for cleaning the floor with Swiffer and much more.

I''ve used Dettol since I was a small girl and now I''m just thankful that I can purchase it in USA. I use it for cleaning everything. From itches on my legs/feet (after a hard & happy day''s work in the garden) to cleaning all the sinks, counter tops, bathrooms, kitchen and the floors. Use the strength as per directed, when mixing it with water. Once mixed, the water will turn milky colored and you can smell it (the clean and healthy smell of my old home) but if you don''t like the smell, don''t worry. It dissipates quickly after awhile.

Just wish that they have the stocks in USA. Thank you, Dettol!

I swear by dettol.

Be it cleaning the toilet, bathtub, washing clothes, bubble bath with it or even skin/surface cuts, burns or rashes. It''s just a great multi-purpose antiseptic solution!

I''m sure there''s nothing that is better than Dettol. The next closest thing I can find would be Walch but the scent of Dettol is slightly better =)

4/5 stars because the price could be lower =)

this product is awesome! does have a strong smell but just opened windows and turned on fans. you have to mix it in water. i wish it came mixed already. it turns white when you mix it. it''s kinda cool. have folliculitis and my doctor said to try to the bacteria levels down on my body. (i know that''s gross but i am a nurse... it''s unavoidable). this actually helped my skin to start to heal after one use. it''s a very good product!

I like dettol and have used it since childhood... I however never saw a dettol bottle without sealed cap... until now. There was a sellotape on the plastic cap. That''s it. No other ''twist-to-break'' seal or seal inside the cap. Disappointing.

Update : I have been dealing with skin disease (fungal infection) as a result of using this for more than a year. I never had this issue in my entire life and I wish I had never bought this. I do not recommend using it other than as disinfectant in mop bucket or some other similar cleaning use.

I have had the Mighty Mite system for about a year now and I can taste the difference in the water with this system installed. I have added a DL filter as an extra precaution to the system to deal with the arsenic issue. I even use the M.M. to filter the dogs water.

If you are a prepper I advise you purchase the Mighty Mite system as it is portable.

I can barely find these in the store anymore, and when I do find them they are considerably more expensive that the ones I purchased here. They do an awesome job of filtering out the impurities in the water, and make it taste equal to the best bottled water I''ve had.

I live in the panhandle of Florida where the water that comes out of my tap is the worst tasting water in the country. I purchased a Brita Aqua View Filter System several years ago and it has made a world of difference in my life. Like everyone else, I couldn''t find one of these filters in a store anywhere and was elated to find one on Amazon. I hope Amazon continues to keep this filter in stock because the last one I ordered was in 2009 and it is still going strong today. Therefore, I don''t mind paying $30.00 for a filter that lasts over 2 years.

After learning that Brita discontinued the Aqua View line and replacement filters, I was happy that Amazon.com matched me to a merchant that still had some in stock. It has been the best Brita filter (attached to my kitchen faucet) I''ve owned, so I''m pleased that I can continue using it for at least one more year (and keeping my fingers crossed that Brita will bring it back). Unfotunately for others, I think I bought up their last three filters.

Keurig B31BLACK K-Cup Single Cup Coffee & Tea Brewing System Save 18% Off

Keurig B31BLACK K-Cup Single Cup Coffee & Tea Brewing System, BlackWe love this brewer. The best benefit is a fresh, just-brewed cup of coffee every time. The k-cups are more expensive than buying bulk coffee but we were throwing away partially brewed pots of coffee every day with our old brewer. Plus, the savings in time not having to clean the carafe and dump the filter of grounds and then cleaning that is well worth it. Also, you can purchase a reusable filter for it if you want to continue to use non-kcup coffee. Believe me, it is still WAY less expensive than what you pay in the popular coffee houses and the coffee is just as good, or better.

It won''t accommodate a tall cup but it is simple to brew into a glass measuring cup and then pour that into your tall cup or travel mug.

Helpful tip: We did have a clogging problem at first. The manual doesn''t tell you that there is a "top needle" that can get clogged. Just remove the gasket and take a straightened paper clip to unclog it. If you use your own coffee, use a coarser grind to avoid that problem. HOWEVER, we were leaving the k-cup closed up in there and the grounds were getting cold and stayed stuck in the needle. We found that if you remove the k-cup right after brewing, it doesn''t get clogged EVER. Have not had it happen since we discovered that. By the way, Keurig''s customer/technical service is absolutely top notch! They stand behind their product and more than make up for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

For those of you who are confused about the amount of water to pour in, we just take the cup we are brewing it in, fill it with water and pour it in. We never worry about seeing where the water level is.

A trend I have noticed in many of the negative reviews of the smaller Keurig brewers (both here and elsewhere on the internet) is that I think people are unfairly rating down the product due to issues that aren''t really the brewer''s fault. Note: I''m not saying that Keurig machines are some sort of holy, blameless things that never fail...I''m sure people have had problems with them, but it seems some people are being very unreasonable in spreading bad word of mouth about them. A few things:

1. People having overflow problems This seems really weird to me. The fill-level indicators are pretty darn accurate in my experience, but I get the feeling some people are just FILLING the reservoir with water completely. (which you''re not supposed to do) and then taking off, leaving the machine to do it''s thing and then winding up with a mess. Important note: the reservoir holds probably around 15-16 oz of water, but the machine is not made to properly brew more than 10oz at a time. I think they stress this in the manual for a reason. Fill your mug with water first, and use that as the measurement. Pretty simple.

2. The coffee not being strong enough Given the fact that there''s something like 180 types of coffee for the machine, this seems like a really vague comment. I mean...are you brewing dark roast or extra bold k-cups? When I''ve tried those, I definitely get a damn strong cup of coffee. Are you brewing breakfast roasts? Then, yeah, it''s going to be pretty light. If you are making dark coffee and it''s coming out weak, then yes, there may be a problem with the brewer, but I''m guessing people are putting in blends that aren''t stronger cups and expecting the kind of paint-stripper coffee they''re used to making by hand. If the bolds really aren''t doing it for you, may I recommend brewing an 8oz cup, then brewing a second 8oz cup with the same k-cup and combining them. Alternately, get the reusable k-cups and put stronger coffee in at a higher fill rate (say 3 tbps).

3. The coffee is not hot enough Again, this seems vague and personal preference-ish, yet people are rating down the machine because the near boiling temperature the coffee dispenses at apparently isn''t insanely hot enough for them. Yes, in some circumstances, the heater may not be working, but I know people who like coffee hotter than the sun for some reason. Here''s the thing: maybe you DO like scalding hot coffee. But just-at-boiling/just-under-boiling temp is generally considered the proper brewing temperature for coffee, at any roast. Also, using cold water will generally get you a crappy cup of coffee, in ANY machine. Chilled water generally wreaks havoc with the thermostats in coffee makers and in some instances the machines will simply heat to compensate for the temperature, but not actually boil the water. Use normal tap water for better performance (purified, preferably).

4. There are dry grounds in the k-cup or reusable k-cup This is something that people need to be very sure about. When coffee grounds are brewed at very high temperatures at high pressure, the grounds do NOT end up looking the same as the grounds do when you use a drip process (which results in a kind of brown sludge). If the grounds are being brewed right, they tend to bunch up and almost crystallize, with the high-heat, steam, and pressure almost "drying" them out for lack of a better way to put it. The grounds almost go through a kind of "spin cycle" like laundry does in a machine. So, the leftover grounds will NOT look like the wet, brown mess you get in drip filters. Are you SURE the grounds are dry and not being brewed or are they simply looking like the way high heat/pressure used up grounds tend to look? Does the coffee seem definitely weak and not brewing right?

About every 10-12 cups of coffee I suggest making sure the bottom k-cup assembly is clean and the needle is clear, then also clean the upper assembly and needle. Run the brewer every now and then with water, but no k-cup, which should help clean the top part. You shouldn''t have to descale except maybe once every 5-6 months, and if you''re using filtered water even then it shouldn''t even be much of an issue.

I''m not saying Keurig brewers are perfect..I know some people have legitimately had bad experiences with them (and many have pointed out that the quality of water pumps they use are not exactly top of the line), but I think it''s unfair to 1-star the product when many of the issues are not quite what they seem.

I recently purchased both the Keurig B31 and Bosch Tassimo T45 personal brewers. My initial search was for a personal brewer for my office since the coffee provided at work is terrible. This review is written from the angle that I needed a brewer for my office cubicle, however I will add some insight for those looking to purchase for home use. My 3 main factors were 1)Convenience/Ease of Use 2)Price & 3)Coffee Quality. I opted with the Keurig for work and the Tassimo for home.

CONVENIENCE/EASE OF USE:

The Keurig wins for this factor since it is MUCH quieter than the Tassimo. As stated before, I sit in a cubicle at work so I didn''t need a loud machine to disrupt my co-workers. We have `white noise'' in our office and you can hardly hear the B31 as it brews. The Tassimo at home is louder and would definitely disrupt my co-workers sitting next to me. However, it is not so loud that it would wake someone up who is sleeping in the house. There are some good videos on YouTube of sound tests of the B31 and T45. I found the videos made the B31 sound louder than it actually is, while the Tassimo''s are pretty accurate.

The Keurig brews a little faster than the Tassimo which gives it a little edge as well, but both are right around 2 minutes.

PRICE:

Since the coffee at work is free, price was a big factor for me as well. I didn''t need something that was going to greatly increase my weekly spending. The Keurig B31 ($99.99) is cheaper than the Tassimo ($169.99). However, Bosch currently has a $50 rebate on the T45. Couple that with a 20% of BBB coupon and you have greatly reduced the price of the Tassimo machine.

The k-cups are also cheaper than the t-discs. I found the k-cups to be around $0.50/cup. The t-discs will run you $0.60 $0.80 for regular coffee and $1.25 for the cappuccinos and lattes. Depending on how much coffee you drink, this could get expensive.

Since I use the Keurig every day at work and the Tassimo only on the weekend, this made it the better choice for my desk.

COFFEE QUALITY:

The Tassimo wins this hands down. I found the Tassimo coffee (specifically Seattle''s Best and Gevalia) to be much better than the k-cups. The flavors out of the Tassimo seem richer and fuller and the aroma that comes from the machine when brewing is much stronger. The k-cups do produce a good cup of coffee, but I found the t-discs better. I have been able to get close to the flavor of the t-discs by trying different brands of k-cups, but haven''t found one that matched it in flavor exactly.

Conclusion:

I found the Keurig B31 to be the best option for my cubicle at work based on convenience and price. I would recommend the Tassimo for those who are using it at home. Or you could purchase both and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Like many on here I could have written a glowing review on this mini and heck I may have but can''t remember. You add water with each cup being careful not to overfill it, you buy pricey pods no secret there, it makes a great, hot cup of coffee, etc, all of the things it is SUPPOSED to do. I learned all of the little tricks, tips, paper clip cleaning of the needle and so on and so forth BUT how much time do you really want to spend cleaning the machine and unclogging the needle? I''ve been on the phone with Keurig when it didn''t brew and their service department is excellent (shouldn''t you always develop a relationship with CS within what 2-3 months of ownership?). I know this little machine inside and out. Like I said it makes great coffee but only when it feels like it! I swear this thing has a mind of its own. It randomly leaves water inside the heating element quick fix by turning off the machine, holding down the on button and pumping the water out. It randomly explodes the pods at the seams sending coffee grounds all through the pod housing this trick is usually discovered once my coffee appears with a multitude of floating grounds no biggee you just pull out your handy dandy fine sieve and filter it into another cup. Don''t we all want to mess with that in the morning? This morning prior to the explosion it just didn''t work at all...turned it off, pulled the handle, etc. and finally it was ready. I''M DONE. Sorry Mini I wanted to love you but you will be going back from where you came before I''m no longer under the return window. You''d looked cute sitting there on my counter top and 75% of the time you were great but the other 25% with your finicky self has just ruined this relationship.

I wish I would have read the reviews before buying the Mini! Mine died after to months of average use. Currently it makes about 1/4 cup or less. After reading what others have gone through I am not going to bother fighting with it or costumer support but because I love the product and convenience I am sizing up to a model that has better reviews and is more long lasting. I am giving this company a second chance only once. Don''t bother getting this model because in a few months you will need a new one.
