Have purchased several of these for RV and always carry one as a spare. Does the job quite well. We think that it helps filter out a lot of unknown bad stuff at any location while traveling. Water always tastes good coming out of filter.

Franke FRXS2 (FRX-S2) Triflow Filtration System

Franke FRXS2 Triflow Filtration SystemThis replaced an older version of the same that had what appeared to be a PVC-based filter holder and cheap plastic hoses. The new version of this is a much sleeker, stainless steel filter holder and stainless steel (at least on the outside) hoses. It also comes with one filter (which is what the picture on Amazon is of). The only thing it doesn''t come with is teflon tape, which is a dollar or two at any hardware store. Five stars for the higher quality kit, and reduced worries of leakage (our last one eventually burst a tiny hole in the PVC-based filter holder), and it appears we had some dripping from the cheap hoses.

Cuisinart CHW-12 Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Save 55% Off

Cuisinart CHW-12 Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/StainlessSince we don''t usually need a full pot of coffee except on weekends -I typically just grab a Starbucks "Via" instant coffee on the way to work in the morning (a pretty remarkable innovation, by the way) -I was attracted to the hot water dispenser on this coffee maker. I like it particularly because of its 58-ounce capacity -meaning that you don''t have to keep refilling it if you''re just using it once each morning to fill a car mug. My wife prefers tea to coffee, and she loves being able to get a cup of really hot water whenever she likes. (We fill it with spring water, and the results are superb.) I haven''t had any problem with the "add water" light, as another reviewer apparently did. I was concerned about squandering energy by keeping a reservoir of water constantly hot, but it doesn''t. It keeps only about 13 ounces of water at serving temperature; the rest of the reservoir is unheated. It doesn''t take all that much energy to keep 13 ounces of water hot. And if you know you won''t be wanting hot water for a while, you can just turn it off with the on/off button. I had expected it to heat water instantly through some kind of coil system -much like an under-sink unit does -but not so. As a result, if the unit hasn''t been on, there''s about a 3-minute wait for the water to reach the right temperature. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish the hot water dispenser were programmable in the way the coffee maker is, but it isn''t. You have to start it manually. (No you can''t use an outlet timer because the unit has an electronic on/off switch.) I also wish the hot water dispenser had a temperature adjustment (the coffee maker does); the water it dispenses is so hot that I have to wait for several minutes before I can drink any beverage I make with it. Finally, some Cuisinart coffee makers have a strength adjustment but this doesn''t. But these are minor quibbles; it''s still a great appliance. The coffee maker itself works as well as an automatic drip coffee maker can -always a function of trial-and-error at the beginning (what kind and how much coffee you use). It uses a cone filter (#4) -which in my humble opinion always delivers better coffee than the flat filters used in so many other coffee makers -including a lot of Cuisinart models -and the water is sprayed onto the coffee by a showerhead array in the reservoir lid. (Tip for review "Me2": Pour water into the coffee maker by putting the lip of the carafe on the rear LEFT corner and pour it in that way. It''s a lot easier and you won''t spill any.)

I looked at a LOT of different coffee makers before deciding on this model. Buying a coffee maker has to be one of the hardest things to buy. The problems come in because everyone has a different take on what coffee is supposed to taste like and unfortunately many of them are dead wrong. The most important thing for anyone that really enjoys coffee the way it is supposed to be made is that the water heats up to a sufficient temperature (greater than 190 degrees). This allows for the best flavor to be extracted from the coffee ground without that bitter taste that you get when the temperature is too low. Since most people don''t know that you don''t find that information in most reviews. I found that information in the good reviews for this product and it had an overall rating of 4.5 at the time that I purchased it but I was a bit concerned with some of the bad reviews. They pointed to things like the carafe leaking, the hot water dispenser side leaking or not functioning correctly, bad tasting water, etc. Well, I''m happy to report that I have not seen any of these problems.

Pros

1) Hot water dispenser heats water to 185 degrees. This is perfect for anything you might want to use it for.

2) The coffee maker side heats the water to about 200 degrees. This is GREAT for making a really good cup of coffee.

3) The coffee temperature allows the coffee too stay warm even after I add half & half.

4) The lid on the carafe is NOT hinged which means that it doesn''t flop around when you''re pouring and it doesn''t have a flimsy hinge to break.

5) The hot water dispenser side is HUGE, much larger than it looks in the pictures. That is why I''ve uploaded some pictures with mugs sitting on it and my tape measure showing the actual size. It fits both very wide and very tall mugs.

6) The auto-off setting is adjustable from 1-4 hours. This is great for my mom who likes to brew a pot and drink it all morning.

7) The indicator lights on the hot water side that let you know when the water is ready and when you need to add water are great.

8) Indicator light lets you know when it is time to clean the unit.

Cons

1) I''m not really sure how much safer the safety lock is on the hot water side. Anyone that can reach the lever can EASILY slide that safety lock to the left.

2) This is a small nitpick but pointing out small things like this show how much I really like this coffee maker. In order to set the clock you switch the switch to Clock and then hold down the HR button until the time starts blinking. What else am I going to do while I have the switch set to Clock? Why do I have to hold down that button too? The only reason this actually bugs me is because if you hold it down a split second too long it will begin to change the hour. So if you only wanted to change the minute it can be annoying.

3) This is only a con at first. The first time you pour water into the coffee side the angle of where you have to pour it makes you feel like you''re going to spill it. Not to worry though. The design of the carafe and the fact that the flipped up lid will catch the water if you go to far make it really easy. Just don''t hesitate and you''ll find that it is as easy as pie to pour the water in.

Finally, this thing makes a GREAT TASTING cup of coffee. I can''t believe I finally have a drip coffee maker that I enjoy using. Prior to this any time I wanted a good cup of coffee I would break out my French Press.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I''ll be glad to check it out and get back to you.

This machine was to make both the coffee hound and the tea lover in our family happy in the morning. Only one of us is happy.. No complaints at all with the coffee maker..

The hot water dispenser has a strong bad taste that I cant get rid of with repeated vinegar or the 1 cup of lemon juice suggested by the customer service representative.. She had heard my story many times before..

The taste is similar to drinking out of a garden hose. The customer rep assured me that the insides are stainless steel and not plastic. I think there may be some quality control issues...

Even if I could get the bad taste out, the dispenser will only release 16 oz of water for the 32 oz you must put into it. This leaves 16 oz to sit until the next day to be reheated when you add 16 oz of new water.

You must always put in 32 oz to get out 16 oz. If you put in any amount less than 32 oz, the "add water" light will come on after only 6 oz drawn out..The machine will not let you take more than this out--even thought there is plenty more inside of it.

Consequently the new water put in always mixes with the old water that is both stale and bad tasting. Who wants day old water that has the taste diminished further by reheating?

I see this as a big design flaw that requires you to take the entire machine to the sink, pull the very ergonomically incorrect and difficult plug out of the bottom and manually drain it... The manual tells you to do this if the water has been in the dispenser a week or more...

There always will be water in the dispenser a week or more.. yuck..

I say back to the drawing board with this item..

Not what I expected from Cuisinart...

My last old Cuisinart bit the dust so I was in the market for a new one. I had also been in the market for a water kettle but really did not like the idea of having one more appliance on my counter top. When I checked out the Cuisinart web site to see what was new I was blown away by the idea of this coffee maker that also dispensed hot water!! I was so excited about it I had it sent overnight.

I have only had it for a day but oh what a wonderful cup of coffee I had this morning and right now I am loving the convenience of having hot water available for my tea drinking!

Pros: Everything!! In perfect working order and I was able to follow the manufacture''s instructions on hot water without any problems at all! Best cup of coffee I have had even counting my old Cuisinart!

Cons: Only 1 negative so far. It is awkward pouring water into the coffee maker side and I guess I will need more practice at this to keep from splashing water all over everything.

So far extremely pleased with my purchase!!

This is really a great unit. Coffee brews perfectly. As far as the water dispenser, mine works fine. It notices water levels etc. The only thing is that the water will start to smell bad (metallic) if it is left in the resevoir too long. I would say follow the instructions. It says to empty the water resevoir fully if you do not plan to run the water function for more than a week, or to store the unit. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the unit (who knew)... I drained it and refilled it, flushed a couple of times and the water is much better. No more metallic taste/smell... OK, Just an FYI...

Genuine 5 Stage Replacement Filter for Zen Water Systems

Genuine 5 Stage Replacement Filter for Zen Water SystemsI can''t write a very detailed review on the replacement filter except to say that it got here in one piece and works just fine. The Zen water filter is great though and you can''t beat it for the price. It''s so nice to have drinking water that doesn''t taste awful.

WE have terrible tasting well water, but this filter makes it taste awesome. Our hardness level is off the scale, but this takes care of it.

Krups XP2070 Programmable 10-Cup Coffeemaker/15-Bar Pump Espresso Machine

Krups XP2070 Programmable 10-Cup Coffeemaker/15-Bar Pump Espresso MachineI was and still am deeply suspicious of these combo units, but this one has been a pleasant surprise. All of the basic functions work admirably and it does a wonderful job of frothing even low fat milk. The espresso maker is a little less forgiving of your tamping skills than other machines I''ve used, but when you get it right the crema is beautiful.

I have only had this for 3 months, so I can''t vouch for longevity of the machine, but it seems to be sturdy and well made.

The problem I have is with the computer program that operates everything. It is perhaps the most non-intuitive, least user-friendly design I have ever come across on any home appliance. The functions themselves should be fairly straightforward -push a button -but require you to learn the secret code of whomever designed it.

Add to that the fact that the instructions are WRONG. I can handle them being written by a non-English speaker, I''m used to that. But they can at least be accurate. Helpful tip when frothing milk, after the steam has built up and the flashing light begins to glow continuously, DO NOT push the "steam" button again as the instructions indicate. Push the "Valid" button instead.

However, once you get the secret code down, this machine works well. Compared to other combo units I highly recommend.

My husband and I registered for this at Crate & Barrel and have been thrilled with it for 9 months now. I did immediately notice, however, that the carafe is made from very thin glass and was always scared I would break it. Other than that, the only problem I had with it was when pouring a cup of coffee, 9 times out of 10 it would leak over the sides and onto the counter if you didn''t pour very slowly and sometimes even that didn''t help. I just made a mental note that our next machine might be an upgrade from Krups or something like that, but still LOVED this machine. Imagine my horror when today, after our morning pot of coffee, it just completely stopped working! I unplugged it, changed outlets, nothing. The led display is just dead. The machine is dead. I''ve checked it every hour or so today. Nada. After doing some research online, I now see that is a common theme with this machine among people who''ve had it a while (the earliest I read of it happening was 5 months). I descaled it with vinegar every 3 months or so. Nothing in the manual addresses this situation. So, here I sit with a cup of Starbucks, writing this review. Starbucks just doesn''t measure up anymore to having my fresh ground Kona coffee and espresso (not to mention lattes and cappuccinos!) each day....very disappointed.

UPDATE (7.11.08): We called, found we were within 3 days of waranty expiring, so sent it in to a local, authrized Krups repair shop..it came back in about a week, worked for 2 pots of coffee, then broke again. We called the shop and were told to send in again. This time it''s worked (still working) for 3 weeks..now the black plastic lid above the filter area is warped and sticks/pops when you open it to put water/coffee inside. I should also mention that when they sent it back to us, they wrapped it with a plastic film and it apparently had moisture inside because now the machine has water stains all over it and looks pretty bad. I think we''re giving this machine away when we move next month..did I say how it smokes and huffs/puffs when it''s brewing (and it''s descaled regulary)? It''s too bad, because this machine looked great to start with and had such great potential!

I bought the XP 2070 with the hopes of having better coffee and the espresso option. Within one week of purchase (one round of capuccinos), I am unable to turn on the espresso maker. I called customer service, and they asked me to ship the machine back and wait a month-and-a-half because "the warehouse has closed," even though this is the newest model. Very reluctantly, they threw in a few free coffee filters in the deal. I wish I had read other Amazon customer posts, that indicate that not even the CEO responds to customer service complaints.

They also said they had no information on troubleshooting the machine "because we just introduced it." It seems that any decent machine testing would check to see that you could turn on the machine. Please do not make the same mistake I did, especially with a holiday gift!

This machine is absolute garbage. There are not enough pejoratives or expletives in the world for me to describe my feelings for this device with anything like the right level of detail.

The user interface is like trying to decode an alien artifact. The manual is terrible. The customer service and support is unbelievably bad. It is unreliable and expensive.

Get a different espresso machine, go to a coffeeshop, heck, boil coffee in a 55 gallon drum over a pile of oily rags any of these is a much more satisfactory way to get a coffee drink than using this (insert chain of imaginative diminutives) thing.

Want Krups XP2070 Programmable 10-Cup Coffeemaker/15-Bar Pump Espresso Machine Discount?

I must echo the comments in previous reviews. This is a fine machine at first -does the job and does it well -but the instructions were very complicated, the pot is poorly designed & you end up pouring just as much coffee on the counter as you do in your cup, and after 4 months of use, mine just stopped working. I really thought this $300 machine would be the last coffee maker I would have to purchase for awhile considering my $50.00 "Mr Coffee" machine worked for 5 years and is now being used as my "backup" while I try to get a resolution with Krups. (Thank goodness I decided to hold onto it!!)

Think twice before sinking so much money into this product.

We have had this unit for about a year and a half and have carefully replaced the filters four times. We initially loved the "easy snap in" change and all was well the 4 level filter seems to do a great job and we didn''t notice much restriction; each lasted about 5 months. This week''s replacement was different, though we woke up to a HUGE flood in our kitchen with a ton of damage. Came back here and saw a number of other people have had the same problem. I can''t quite see if it''s the main part or the filter, but it sounds like it might be a breakdown of the base (although we don''t see any cracks, but can see the leaks and drips all around the top part.) This should not be happening after only a year and a half.

Has anyone contacted Culligan? I have emailed them and will update this review if I hear back.

Blueair 650E GO SMOKESTOP Air Purifier Save 8% Off

Blueair 650E GO SMOKESTOP Air PurifierI purchased the Blueair 650e Smokestop from Sylvane through Amazon and it arrive quickly. The air purifier works great and I simply put it on auto. The sensers in the unit occasionally turn the fan on high, but 95% or more of the time, it runs quietly on low or medium speed neither are very noisy. Even the high speed is not objectionable in the bedroom, since we know it will slow down in 10 or 15 minutes. I''d estimate the high speed noise as about the same as a window airconditioner running on high, but without the low frequency rumble of the airconditioner''s compressor. I''ve had asthma in the past and bought the Blueair purifier when I stopped taking Advair. I''ve had no issues since making the switch and feel better than ever.

I''ll also say I think the sensors are very much worth it. Otherwise, I''d never know when I can turn the unit down. With the sensors, I leave it all to the machine and it works perfectly. Typically, our two Great Danes come in the bedroom with us at night and the unit kicks on high speed for about 10 or 15 minutes. The rest of the night, it runs on low or medium and we never notice it.

When the unit arrived, it did not come with the Smokestop filters as described in my original purchase. I contacted Sylvane and they immediately notified me by e-mail and voicemail that the Smokestop filters would be shipped to me free of charge. The filters arrived a few days later. I''m very happy with my purchase from Amazon and Sylvane.

Definitely worth the price. We have several of them. If there is a smoker in your house, make sure you order the special smoke stopper filters. This is definitely a case of you gt what you pay for. Buy Blueair 650E GO SMOKESTOP Air Purifier Now

We purchased the Blueair 650E for our home after extensive research. We read reviews on Amazon of many air purifiers. We looked at informational sites on the internet. We looked at manufacturer web sites, independent web sites, and educational web sites. We read Consumerʻs Reports. We researched all types of air purifiers at all price levels, learning about those designed for home use as well as commercial use (doctor offices/restaurants). While we are buying for a home, we wanted to understand the technologies used for the "bigger problems".

We evaluated positive and negative reviews to determine if the information was valid. In addition to the units themselves, we evaluated the manufacturer for both quality and customer service. We were not interested in cheap junk that wonʻt work or wonʻt be supported or wonʻt have filters available. We quickly realized that we would need to spend more money that we had initially budgeted, but decided breathing better air is worth it. We also realized why the under $300 units weʻd previously purchased were not satisfactory. After comparing our needs to quality units, we narrowed our search to IQ Air and Blueair.

We decided on the Blueair 650E for several reasons: itʻs quieter and easier to change filters, and seemed to fit our needs better. It has easy to use electronic controls, remote, as well as an auto mode. The auto mode is well worth it and one of the best features, since it automatically ups the speed when needed, them back to low speed a few minutes later.

Prior to purchase we contacted Blueair customer service for some information, and they were very responsive and helpful.

You can purchase filters in the regular version or Smokestop version. Smokestop does not just mean smoke, but all odors and allergy issues. Blueair also has other smaller models, with various configurations to suit different needs.

After buying and using it we couldnʻt be happier. In fact, we are planning to purchase another unit for a separate part of the house.

expensive but I''d have to say this is state of the art in air filtration.

if you are going the trouble of mitigating a problem or concern with the air in your home not buying the best product available is wasting what ever is spent on a lesser product.

the added expense of this model is clearly value added in the controls, noise levels, and design of intake and exhaust.

the replacement filter cost is comparable to the single filter 400 series.

this is my second blue air purchased. my 400 ran flawlessly if loudly for 12 years and was still working when donated it to the local hospice''s thrift store

Don''t just look at Amazon reviews for this product. Check out other web sites. There are two product listed as the best in the *world* for air purification, and this one is one of the two. Top of the list. The other one costs over $1,000+.

The review about this item generating so much ozone that it killed their pet is nonsense. A little research also reveals that this item does not generate much, if any ozone at all. Definitely nothing that anyone should worry about and definitely not more than any other purifier of such high quality out there.

I ended up buying this device after moving into a new apartment on a major downtown street as well as a sewage treatment plant next door, and ended up with numerous health problems that were affecting my neurological health. Aside from no longer leaving my balcony doors open, I decided to clean the inside air as much as possible, and this was the best one on the market. I have improved since day 1 using this device. I put it in my bedroom at night and close the door, as well as in the living area during the day. It emits a very pleasant, cooling sound. Nothing like the other air blower type filters that roar, and blast air all over the room.

The wheels on the bottom are a great help in moving the device, and it comes with a remote control. Absolutely satisfied with my purchase. Highly recommend.

Austin Air Jr. HealthMate Air Purifier HM200 Save $0.01 Off

Austin Air Healthmate Jr. Air Purifier - SandstoneI got the Austin Air Healthmate Junior air purifier when I moved into my new house. The previous owner was a smoker. Although I''d replaced the carpets, painted the walls, and cleaned the ducts, I still needed something to help cut down the residual smoke smell. After extensive research, I chose the Healthmate Junior.

It did the job. It''s nice and quiet on the low setting. On the high setting it''s a bit noisier, but I just set it in a corner and it''s fine. (Not right up against the wall though, because you have to leave a few inches of space around it for it to work right.) I left it running for over a year. The smoke smell is gone from the house now. Even my mother, with her super-sensitive nose, can''t smell anything when she comes to visit.

I did buy a new filter after about nine or ten months. The air coming out of the Healthmake Junior started to smell a bit acrid. I called Austin Air and asked about it, because I thought the filter should last longer. They said it depends on the quality of your air. That makes sense. They gave me a discount on the new filter because it had been such a short time.

I''m quite pleased with it. It looks nice, it''s relatively light, it''s simple to use, it''s quiet, and it works.

Allergies, along with issues from the four pets, created a significant breathing problem. Someone suggested this purchase, and I was skeptical but was in desperate need of relief. An air purifier has made all the difference in my ability to breathe. I only have one for the bedroom, but will get one in the future for the downstairs, too. The company I used to order, Best Filters, was also quite accommodating. Austin sent the wrong color, but BF corrected the problem immediately (within two hours of my email) arranging for the correct color, and then easy pick up of the other unit. I would highly recommend both!

I''m entering my fifth year on my unit and the fan motor died.

Last year it was slowing down and would only operate on the highest speed.

I keep it running all the time.

I like the air quality it produces. The noise level is great.

But don''t expect to have the motor live long enough to need a filter change after five years.

Its now a giant piece of landfill.

Summary: clean air in two rooms for $75 per year plus the cost of electricity.

This should be the comparison figure on all air filters.

I have birds and I was looking for something that helped not only with cleaning the air, but with odors. I have to say, I used to love my Honeywell and was concerned after reading some of the reviews of the other Austin Air models, but I can honestly say I LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY! It''s small and sits out of the way. On low it is not as noisey as the Honeywell was and it really gets the job done. I am very happy. The only drawback and why I hesitate on giving it 5 stars is because it pushes out cold air from the side vent, which wasn''t talked about in anyone''s reviews. It was quickly taken care of by putting a vent diverter, but for a few days I couldn''t figure out where the cold draft was coming from. And with birds, one needs to be careful with that. Well worth the money.

My husband and I have 5 idoor cats and we keep two large litterboxes in the living room. Our living room is fairly large and opens up to the kitchen with vaulted ceilings. The litter boxes are placed behind a long couch next to a wall, this way they are out of view while you are lounging in the living room. Even though I cleaned the boxes daily, the litter would still get funky rather quickly whith five cats using it, and when my husband and I would sit on the couch watching a movie we would catch whifs of the boxes every now and then. And forget about sitting on the long couch behind which the boxes where placed. Another problem with the litter was all the dust it produced. We always worried that if people came over they would smell the boxes and get grossed out, not to mention we didn''t exactly enjoy smelling it either. So I started my research on air purifiers. I finally settled on this one because it seemed to be the best value for the money, you only have to replace the filters every 3-5 years and it filters gas fumes (such as paint or ammonia). We bought this unit about 1 1/2 years ago and I have to give it 5 big stars! I put the unit next to the boxes and have run it at the low setting continuously since we bought it and the air has been wonderful to breathe ever since. I run it on high when I am cleaning or changing the boxes and this really helps with the dust. So About a month ago I started to smell that litter box funk so I became worried that the unit was no longer working, but when I checked the unit I realized that I had accidentially turned it off instead of on low... so I turned it on and within 10 minutes the air was nice again. I received the biggest compliment recently. An aquantance came over yesterday and after talking for a while in the living room she said, "you know, your house smells so clean. In fact, I would never even guess that you have ANY animals, let alone 5 indoor cats and a dog. What kind of litter do you use??" So I pointed out the Healthmate Junior and told her that was my secret weapon. It made me so happy to hear that that I just knew I had to come on Amazon and share my story. I highly, highly reccomend this product to people with indoor animals. The only bad thing is that it works so well that sometimes I slack on cleaning the boxes because I don''t smell them anymore and I don''t think about it as much.

Sunbeam 1.7-Liter Electric Kettle (1500-Watt) Save 7% Off

Sunbeam SEK17 1.7-Liter Electric Water Kettle, 1500-Watt, WhiteI just bought this tonight at an army PX. When I took it out of the box, I read the directions (6-pages, people, including all the safety mombo-jumbo junk). I cleaned out the kettle like the directions said and plugged it in. As it was heating up, I went online to read when the product actually turns off automatically (since there is only a blurb in the user manual that states: "Ensure the ON/OFF switch is clear of obstructions and the lid is firmly closed. The electric kettle will not turn off automatically if the ON/OFF switch is constrained, or if the lid is left open."). In the time I came online to find this product, there was a "pop" from the kitchen that sounded like a muffled circuit break. When I went out to the kitchen, I found that the kettle did indeed automatically turn off. I turned it back on, and immediately the water boiled for about 10 seconds before it turned off again. I did not see any chemicals on top (like the one review says), and I did not smell any odor. I felt the need to write this review because I felt the others were unfair. Had the other reviewers that rated this poorly read the directions, they would have seen that you are supposed to clean it twice before its first use (which may have eliminated many of their complaints). Either way, I don''t care if you buy this product or not, since I have no stake in it, but felt obligated to write a review that seemed more fair.

To be fair: My wife and I used the kettle only once for a cup of tea and it turned out fine. I did not give it 5-stars because I only have had it for a few hours and am not able to comment on its longevity. If this product still performs well in a few years (as I expect appliances to do), I would rate it one more star. Also, I am a stickler and hardly ever rate ANYTHING in life perfect (except my wife), so that is why it received 4-stars, in case you were wondering.

Update (30 January 2012): We use this at least once and sometimes twice a day. Longevity has proven this product worth 5-stars (although I waited less than a year, I am none-the-less impressed).

We bought one of these on sale at Target about 5 months ago.

It has performed as well as advertised, meeting all of our expectations.

I''m not sure why the other posters had bad experiences (though I see they appear to have posted on both versions of this kettle).

As for quality of the water, we''ve made tea, cocoa mixes and my French Press coffee (that I''m very particular about -French press vs drip coffee), all with no complaint. The manual does provide specific instructions for flushing the kettle prior to use -perhaps the posters failed to follow those instructions.

We use it 5 to 7 times a week, and have never had an issue with the auto shut off not functioning.

It does sound like heavy boiling, then appears to taper off some before it shuts off. Perhaps the other users didn''t wait long enough for the full cycle. Opening the lid will definitely subject you to dangerous steam -it is boiling water.

I highly recommend this kettle, and will likely buy some as gifts for family. The convenience and water quality are far better than our stove top kettles of the past 20 or so years.

Terrible odor makes the water undrinkable. They treated the inside with some chemical that even after frequent washing still does not come out. No, the odor is not from the water as I used the same faucet with the previous kettle I owned but replaced with this when the top broke off the other kettle. The problem is this Sunbeam. This company used to make decent products then went south and I have now been disappointed for the last time. I sent this back for full refund.

Faster than any other way to boil water. If you heat water for anything you need this product. I have tried other water boiler, but this is by far the best one I have ever used.

I also bought this kettle on sale at Target for $13. It lasted for about 4 months, and just broke today. The "automatic shutoff" was faulty and didn''t always shut off, and it had a strong plastic taste (and I''m honestly not that picky about the taste of water).

In short, I''d recommend going with something a little pricier that actually works!
