TotalPond MF13015 Mechanical & Biological Filter For Up To 500 Gallon Ponds With PumpI have a 350 gallon outdoor pond with 3 turtles and a couple dozen minnows. The filter works very well to keep the water clean. It''s a biological filter and needs a few weeks to allow for the build up of good bacteria. Once the bacteria blooms, the water stays clear.

I clean the filter pads about once every 3 months and clean out the entire filter once every 6 months when I move the turtles from their outdoor pond to their indoor pond and vice versa.

This filter coupled with a UV filter to kill algae (what causes the water to turn green) has kept the pond water crystal clear. If the pond wasn''t in full sunlight, the UV filter wouldn''t been needed.

I have had this setup for over 2 years and have been very happy with it. Since the turtles are getting larger, I will be going with a larger pump, but the setup will remain the same.

I have a very small fish pond in my backyard that has become very green and looks nasty. I haven''t seen my fish for months. My aunt has a fish pond and it has a filter with bio balls in it and her pond is crystal clear so I thought I would try one. I am not sure if there is a difference in filters, but this one is not working for me. I hate to think my little pond is beyond repair, but I am not sure what will turn it around. I have had the filter for 3 weeks now and I clean the filter pads every 2-3 days and there has been no change to my dirty green water. Hoping it will clear things up soon but I am highly doubting it.
