Stainless Steel Coffee Maker Save 30% Off

Presto 02811 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffee MakerFirst of all, the reason we bought this is because, in general, percolators make great tasting coffee. They can turn even the worst quality beans into a good cup of coffee. Initially, the Presto lived up to our expectations. And after doing the following, it is once again making great cups of coffee.

Tip #1 Grind your coffee using the appropriate setting.

After some usage, we would at times get a mouthful of grinds. We realized it was important to use the percolator setting on the coffee grinder at the supermarket. Since then, an occasional coffee grind finds its way into our cup.

Tip #2 Clean the filter basket with a brush.

Despite cleaning the pot before each usage, the coffee was gradually getting weaker each day. We then realized that the holes in the bottom of the filter basket were clogged. We could not unclog them using a sponge so I started poking each one individually with a toothpick before deciding there was no way we would have the time or patience to do it every day. So, we tried a brush with plastic bristles and, within seconds, the basket was completely unclogged. So, we bought a small brush with a long handle and use it to clean the filter basket and the bottom of the pot.

I thought my Hamilton Beach percolator was decent for the price, I even wrote a review about it in December, 2006. One week later, this 1-year old coffee maker was barely keeping the coffee hot. Then I visited my son in Alaska at Christmas and noticed that his 6-yr old Presto percolator was still delivering great, hot coffee in record time. I returned home, ordered my Presto 12-cup percolator and am highly impressed. It''s lighter, easier to load, easier to pour, easier to clean, perks ultra-fast and makes a great, hot cup of coffee. Because of its lighter stainless steel pot, it cools down faster if you want to make a second batch of coffee right away. (We make two pots and pour the first batch into a thermos for back-up when company comes) Based on its performance, I''m surprised the price is so reasonable.

I''ve used every type of coffee maker around. I look for all stainlessthat means NO plastic or aluminum contacting the water----this has been a great product for me--I love perked coffee. When I''m not using this I use a Cona glass vacuum maker-- I''m a purist about materials and coffee making. Presto has been the most reliable of all my electric percs. It''s all stainless.

I am a coffee drinker, and have been for decades. I have tried most systems out there-French Press, Filters of all kinds, stovetop espresso pots, etc. Of all of those, French Press makes pretty good coffee. But this Presto percolator extracts more flavor than any of them to my taste.

Here are some clues. The kitchen fills with the smell of coffee brewing. It''s nice, and I haven''t smelled that wonderful, welcoming smell in a long time. The coffee comes out rich and thick. For those of you that use cream or milk, you will still have a decent coffee flavor after the addition.

The pot itself is a fairly simple device. I am sure there is a micro-processor thermostat under the black base, but still a simple device. All parts are Stainless Steel. The pot, the basket holder, the basket and the basket top. No plastic touches the coffee. Parts, should they become damaged for any reason are easily available from the Presto site. But with reasonable treatment these are sturdy, workable pieces of coffee brewing goodness.

The brew cycle is regulated by the amount of water in the pot. I have tried making four cup, six cup, eight cup, and ten cup batches. Following the directions that come with the pot or that area available on the Presto site will yield weaker or stronger brews according to your taste. One just has to experiment a bit to get a feel for it.

The brew cycle ends with a flourish of percing. Then the light on the front goes off. Here''s what they don''t tell you. Wait another minute or so till the last batch of water filters through the basket, then open the top take out the basket top and then the basket and brewpipe. Pop the top back on. The coffee will stay hot for as long as you leave the pot plugged in. And at a good hot temp, too.

This holding part of the cycle is a double edged sword. Coffee definitely looses its full flavor after a while, but the coffee will stay hot for as long as the pot is plugged in. I recommend making several smaller batches over the day rather than just brewing a big one. That hassle aside, I haven''t yet let the pot burn with no coffee in it.

All in all, this Presto pot brews a great cup of coffee in batches from four to twelve cups. Best purchase to my quality of life I have made in some time. Highly recommended.

Want Stainless Steel Coffee Maker Discount?

I originally purchased this percolator to throw in my suitcase for business and vacation travel because I can''t stand those funky hotel coffee brewers and cheap single-serving coffee packets. But, this Presto percolator is such a fast brew, the coffee is so much better, and it is so easy to take care of, that it has become my daily brewer, even when I am home. There are no gaskets to remove (stove-top espresso makers), there is nowhere for mold to build up (have you ever looked at the area where the coffee comes out of the electric coffee makers after a few days?), and all of the parts are stainless steel or plastic. Plus, it doubles as a teapot while traveling; just wash it, add water, and plug it in! In less then 5 minutes, you can have a hot cup of tea in your hotel room. The parts are all solid, sturdy, and fit together perfectly, too.

Surround Air XJ-3800 Large Intelligent Air Purifier Save 37% Off

Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier with Photocatalytic Filter HEPA/Carbon Filter and Germicidal UV LampA little research pays off! This was my first air purifier purchase. Originally, I was going to buy an ionic one. But, I was amazed once I started researching how little I knew!

In case you''re in the same boat, Here''s the criteria I ultimately set, ratings for this model on the criteria, and my experience with it:

CRITERIA #1: Must noticably reduce our allergies, clear smoke and odors: 5+ Stars!

Have had it two months with a smoker, a hairy dog, and allergy season in full bloom. Reduced allergies and no breathing problems at home since we got it. Noticable quick removal of odors and smoke!

(NOTE: More power than I even intended. You may be able to get a cheaper model if you don''t want all this one has:

A) Electrostatic/Ionicattracts pollutants from a wide area, but not odors and allergens

B) Carbon clears smoke, odors and pollutants but not germs and allergens

C) HEPA traps even the smallest of allergens, but nothing else

D) UV destroys bacteria and germs, but not allergens, pollution or smoke cheaper models offer only HEPA and UV filters.)

Best Added Feature: The sensor lights that let you know the status of your air quality and then watching them go off when it''s corrected the problem.

CRITERIA #2: Low/No ozone model! 5+ stars.

I found that the old sharper image-type ionic-only models (many still on the market at reduced prices) only clean pollutants, but not odors and allergens. Worse, they generate ozone at a level that can exacberate asthma problems. The electrostatic filter combined with the ionic one in this model eliminate that problem. Look for one that has this!

CRITERIA #3: High area coverage: 4.5 stars.

I found an obscure site that lists air purifiers and their coverage areas and particle levels. This one seems to cover about 1,200 sq. ft. or more than double what is listed. But, even with what was listed, proved to be the best ranked in comparison with price levels.

CRITERIA #4: Low Noise: 4-stars.

We keep it in the living room mostly on auto. On low and medium, it''s very quiet. On automatic mostly very quiet, unless it''s under attack from something like cooking or opening the door frequently. On high, it makes a noticable "white noise". But, it''s OK good for falling asleep and not so loud you can''t hear the TV. Wouldn''t put it on "high" regularly though.

CRITERIA #5: Price/Value including maintenance: 4.5 stars

My budget was $200. I went over that slightly. But, the filters on this one are so much cheaper than the models I compared it to that the extra $40 should more than pay out.

BOTTOM LINE: I chose this one based on research, but I highly recommend it for quality and value! If you want to cleaner, fresher air and reduced home allergies without intrusive noise at the price, I''m not sure you can do better.

Given that there weren''t many reviews out when I bought this purifier, I figured I''d take a minute and give a brief review of it after having used it for a few weeks.

Out of the box:

It''s a very lightweight machine that has a very elegant/professional look to it. The "Flow, Timer, and Power" buttons feel a little like cheap plastic, but it''s really not a big deal, nor does it diminish the look of the purifier.

In Action:

When I first started it up, I heard a little bit of "static" noise coming from the ionizer, as it was possibly collecting the dust that was in the packaging that it was shipped in. Within a minute, that noise was gone, and it has been operating very smoothly and quietly for the last few weeks. I live in a house with central air, and the air quality is pretty good, but since I have bad allergies, I wanted to get a purifier. To be honest, I''m not sure if I can tell the difference, if any, it has made in improving the air quality in my room, but I always keep it on (Auto setting) and it gives me comfort to know and "see" (the indicator) that my air is clean. Interestingly, the sensor in this purifier that determines the air quality and revs up its engines as soon as the air quality becomes worse is quite sensitive. It even knows that the air quality has changed/worsened (ever so slightly) whenever I peel an orange! this also happens if you spray some cologne while you''re in the room. Just a few minutes ago, I opened my window to my backyard and noticed the machine''s air quality indicator shoot to its highest setting, signifying that the air needs to be rapidly cleaned. It was right! I know that there is a ton of pollen outside today, and that''s what came into my room. My Intelli-Pro picked it up quickly and adjusted appropriately.

One small thing I don''t like about the Intelli-Pro is its always-on blue light, which tells you that the UV light is working. I don''t like sleeping with a night light, and even if you do, this light might be too bright to sleep with. For now I just angle the purifier away from my bed and that solves the issue. I may eventually want to put a small piece of tape over it but obviously that would ruin its beauty.

I have not yet looked into how difficult it will be to clean the different filters, but there are decent instructions in the manual provided and I don''t anticipate it taking more than 15-20 mins.

Overall, I''m very impressed with the different air-purifying technologies that this company has incorporated into quiet, yet powerful Intelli-Pro air purifier (look into the product details/description for the specifications). I would definitely recommend this other consumers in the market for a reasonably priced, high-quality air purifier. I''m sure you will like it!

It''s bigger than it looks in the pictures: Stands about thigh-high. This put me off at first...but then I plugged it in.

First impression: It''s not doing anything.

After two days: I want to have it''s babies.

I have allergies...miserable miserable allergies, and I just moved back to maryland during the worst allergy season I''ve seen in years.

To a house with three smokers. And Two Dogs. And Two Cats. This house has clutter (re: dust) and mold and four plants in the livingroom and old carpets. It has old furniture and crummy filters but it DOES have ceiling fans!

This house is allergy hell.

and this purifier?...Ah...I swear I can breathe again. It cleans up the air (auto setting rocks!) of the entire 500 sq/ft first floor from *awful* to *clear* in roughly 20 minutes, and if it''s running constantly, it never gets intolerable. In fact, it barely ever gets to worse than "do you smell something?" for more than a minute or two, even if there has been cooking and smoking and the dogs were in the rain.

Even if it only lasted 6 months before it totally broke down, it would be worth the price to pay every six months to get another one.

I am in love.

Make more of these.

Buy it. Buy ten and give them to your friends. Send this link to anyone with allergies. Or gas.

OK, In order for you to develop some since of discernment with me, let me give you a flavor of my personality and background: By profession, I am a technical writer in the engineering field which is not really saying much... everyone knows engineers can''t communicate very well and stink at writing; but give us a problem and will solve it for you three different ways and confuse you trying to explain each one.

When I look at reviews to buy a product, I don''t read all the 4 and 5 star reviews because I''m thinking most people are too proud to admit they bought something that doesn''t work... you feel better about your $200 purchase when you tell everyone else, "It''s wonderful!" No, what I do is click the sort button to show me the 1 and 2 star reviews because I want to hear what the unhappy buyers have to say. For this product, the 1 and 2 star reviews represent about 15 percent of the total number of reviews, and 78% represent 4 and 5 star reviews. Apparently, not a bad product according to customer reviews.

In the bad reviews I read things like,

"...it gives off a foul burning plastic smell when you first turn it on...", or

"...the ''AUTO'' mode doesn''t do anything when I shake a bunch of dust in front of the intake vents...", or

"...the ''clean metal grid'' and ''replace filter'' lights come on much faster than hoped or advertised", or

"...I am a senior citizen and I broke the metal wires trying to clean them...".

And then there were those who warned that you''d be sorry if you bought the item because all the positive reviews fail to tell you certain things which are important about this horrible product (in their opinion)!

I just about decided not to buy the XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro based on what I was reading, but in all fairness I scoured through the 4 and 5 star reviews. I wanted to see if there were enough people giving intelligently informed opinions rather than just stating that they loved it and that it has a bunch of bells and whistles that seem to indicate that it''s working. After much reading, I allowed the positive reviews to help me overcome my skepticism and purchased the unit.

My unit arrived in less than a week. Upon unpacking the unit, I remembered that almost everyone expressed a little bit of surprise with the size of it. With me, I''m thinking, if this unit is going to take care of a 20 by 30 room (600 sq. ft.) and be able to do so quietly and efficiently, it''s going to have to be larger than your typical bookshelf speaker; otherwise it''s just not going to be efficient or fast enough at cleaning up the air when contaminants are introduced (smoking, odors, pollen, mold, etc). Now engineering physics tell you that you can do the same job with a smaller sized unit, but then you have to have a faster fan speed to move the same volume of air. Faster fan speed would translate into more fan noise, so I guess the trade off here was to go a little larger in size and opt for quieter operation. I''m good with that.

For the operating display, the unit has a power button, and an airflow control switch which can be set to AUTO, QUIET, LOW, MED, and HI speed. The AUTO mode allows the unit''s sensors to determine the necessary fan speed based on the quality of the air in the room. The sensors are suppose to throttle the fan speed up and down accordingly as needed to clean up the air. The display also has a 4-light indicator labeled, "Clean Air Monitor" which is interpreted as follows: 1 light on no pollution detected; 2 lights some pollution detected; 3 lights moderate pollution detected; 4 lights severe pollution detected. Next there is a UV/Negative Ion indicator lamp which just simply tells you the UV lamp is working. This UV indicator light is suppose to cycle faintly between dim and bright. Many people have complained that the light is an eye sore and cover it with black tape if it is being used in the bedroom where they sleep. Personally, I found it no more obtrusive than a very dim night light or the LEDs on your cable or satellite DVR. The light oscillations were very faint such that you really don''t notice it unless you intensely stare at it. Next it has sensor lights for ODOR detection, DUST detection, and ALLERGEN detection pretty straight forward. It also has a Power ON timer, which can be set to 1 Hr, 2 Hrs, or 8 Hrs. I think I would have rather seen 2, 8, and 12 hour timer choices for my needs. And finally, there are indicator lights that tell you when to clean the metal grid filter and when to replace the HEPA filter. No doubt this is a thoroughly designed unit if everything works properly.

I have had the unit now for about 2 weeks, and the following are my impressions after using the air purifier during this short amount of time:

First, the instructions clearly say to place the unit in a large room initially where you can create outside fresh air exchange by opening windows and doors assuming the outside air is relatively clean. You are to operate the unit for several hours in that room before using it in its intended space. I suppose this is to help alleviate any potential smells from the unit while it is new and freshly unpacked. But the interesting thing is that the unit I received did not seem to have any objectionable odors during initial operation, even when I bent down and sniffed the purified air exhaust in the back of the unit. Well that''s all good, but why are other buyers saying different? My presumption is that probably 5% of the units sold have a problem due to quality control, in assembling or packaging resulting in unusual off-gassing. Asking for a new replacement unit immediately if this occurs would solve that problem and that is where Amazon shines.

During initial operation in "AUTO" mode, I began to worry that this unit was more of a conversation piece rather than an air cleaner because of all the pretty lights, buttons and futuristic looks. I worried that the unit was doing nothing more than acting like a small air blower. So I decided to get out our 12 year old vacuum cleaner and started vacuuming in the area near the purifier. Within less than a minute, the "DUST" light came on, the clean air monitor indicator moved to 4 lights (indicating severe pollution detected) and the fan speed immediately shifted into "HI". The fan noise was not objectionable; in fact not even near as loud as a normal oscillating house fan running at a moderately high speed. With bright sunlight light coming in thru the large living room window, I could see particulate dust matter floating around in the area where I had just run the vacuum. Within about 5 to 8 minutes, the particulate matter had cleared and the unit began to cycle back down to "MED", then "LOW", and then the "QUIET" fan speed. At that point I was thinking, hmm, nice!"

I had remembered reading one fella''s review who wrote that when he expelled some personal gas near the purifier, he laughed when the "ODOR" light came on. I thought, funny, but naaaah. So I went to take a shower while the unit was in its initial operation for several hours. When I got out, I decided to take my roll-on deodorant and apply it to my underarms while near the purifier. Sure enough, the "ODOR" light comes on (I assume from the deodorant `cuz I''m not gettin'' back in the shower, lol), the fan speed ramped up, and stayed this way after I had left the room and gotten dressed. When I came back 15 minutes later, the odor light was still on but I ignored it and left the room again. Came back about 2 or 3 minutes later as I was leaving the house and the "ODOR" light was now off and the fan speed was back to "QUIET".

Now just to give you a little heads up, neither my wife or I are smokers, and we don''t have any inside pets, but we do live in an area of the country where outdoor mold spores and pollen counts can rise moderately high at times. Our home is only about 12 years old, and we mostly use a propane ventless space heater to heat our lower basement office areas in the winter. This is where I spend most of my days and where I want to use the purifier.

Well after initial operation, the instructions say to unplug the unit from the wall in order to reset the sensor data memory and move it to the space of intended use for normal operation. I did this. After plugging the unit back in and powering up, the unit shifted into "MED" speed and the clean air monitor lights went to Defcon 2, lol. I guess it was finding that my office space had contaminated air. As an interesting contrast on the odor detector, my wife decided to do her fingernails one evening in the room next to my office. The chemical was that strong smell of acetone fingernail polish remover, which permeated the whole downstairs. I closed my office door and looked over at the XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro and it had already ramped up to the next to highest fan speed, with 4 lights showing on the Clean Air Monitor, and the ODOR light was on. It took the unit about 10 minutes to clean up the air in my 15 by 15 office with the door closed. When I again opened my office door, the unit ramped up again to clean the rest of the air in the basement area. It finished that area in another 30 minutes.

I have to say that I am pleased with this unit and would buy it again with the short experience I have with it. I am not sure what kind of life I''ll get out of the UV lamp, HEPA filter, or "wires" that will eventually need to be cleaned, but the instructions give you step by step procedures with pictures so I am not too worried. Now what about all the other good folks out there who have not had a positive experience? Well the discernment that I believe is needed here would include the following:

* Do you have a highly contaminated interior area that includes, frequent smoking, indoor pets, damp and musty basement areas, older construction homes (20 plus years), carpet or upholstered furniture that has not been replaced in more than 10 years, wood burning fire places where ashes and soot can become airborne, inadequate outdoor air exchange rates (ASHRAE codes recommend a complete fresh air exchange through mechanical ventilation every 3 hours, minimum)? All of these can create an interior space that will require an air purifier to work harder and longer, and shorten the life of the filtering system.

* If your home is naturally ventilated from open windows, screen doors, loose door and window seals, etc. then your home will experience 3 to 5 air changes per hour or more. If you have high mold spore and pollen counts outdoors, high humidity levels, high industrial or transportation pollution nearby, and windy conditions, this can be bad for the inside of your home and can shorten the life of your purifier''s filters.

* Some people (and I really should say most people) don''t like to read instructions. They unpack a product, plug it in, and then throw their hands up in the air when it doesn''t work the way they had hoped. A good manufacturer includes helpful instructions to make sure you have a successful experience with their product. They know that if the unit works properly, you will tell your friends and you will buy another. Therefore, they go to great lengths to tell you how to get the best operating experience out of their product. Read the instructions before turning the unit on. I think this may be the downfall to some, not all, who experience disappointment with this unit.

* And finally, some of these units probably are lemons out of the box. Based on the reviews, and taking exception for operator error, I am guessing the lemon rate may be as high as 5 percent. That''s probably 4 percent too high. But even with this high of a faulty rate, Amazon will be your ace in the hold to insure your satisfaction.

Therefore, I have given this product a 5 star review and would recommend all to buy it from an Amazon sponsored dealer in order to protect your purchase.

Wow, this machine is amazing. I actually picked it up at a second hand store for $15.00 dollars. It only needed a new $36.00 HEPA filter. I have two dogs and it took the dander smell right out of the air. I can also walk up to this machine and fart, the machine will detect the odor and the Ordor light will turn on. Too Funny!!

Jura Impressa Z7 One-Touch Automatic Coffee Center Save 3% Off

Jura Impressa Z7 One-Touch Automatic Coffee CenterI previously owned the S8 for about 7 years and after it broke, I decided to upgrade. I love the way Jura will repair a broken super automatic for 275.00 including round trip shipping no matter what the problem but I still wanted a newer model. I did a great deal of research on superautomatics and even bought a Saeco Xelsis. Unfortunately I had to return it as the latte temp never got above 120 degrees despite calling Saeco and working with their support line. I then bought a Jura Z7 as the manual stated that the milk could be heated up to 159 degrees and the espresso/ coffee up to 197 degrees. I love hot coffee/latte. After trying out the Xelsis, I wanted to buy a sure thing that I knew would make me happy. However, the milk at first came out about 130-140 degrees. It took three calls to Jura to figure out how to get the milk to the temp to what they advertise. One helpful person told me to pinch the tubing exiting the milk container before it enters the machine. This slows the stream of milk and increases its exposure to the heating elements but who wants to spend 3 grand on a machine and have to jury with it to get the milk hot enough. Finally, I was told of two things to do to get the milk temp up and how to keep the temp up in the cup. First, when putting the empty cup under the cappucino spout, press the milk button while the cappucino dial is set on steam water. This will spray very hot steam out of the cappucino spout into the cup. This heats up the tubing in the machine and heats up the cup. The third and most important thing is to align the notch in the cappucino spout dial on the border between the steam water icon and the steam milk icon. After flow begins, turn the dial counter-clockwise until the notch is actually into the steam water section but not so far that it stops the milk flow. By doing this I was able to get my milk temps up to the 180s (checking the temps as the milk exits the spout and before it hits the cup). NOW, I could not be happier with the taste AND and the temp of my lattes. Go Jura!!!

I don''t write many reviews, but just this week, we decided to call it quits with our 4 year old Jura, which was about as expensive as the one Amazon is selling. During long stretches, the coffee was great, as was the frother. But during the 4 years, we had to ship it back to Jura for repairs 5 times, and every time, it was for the same problem. According to Jura''s customer service agent, "an air bubble gets trapped in the line and the machine must be disassembled to fix it." Last time, I got pretty annoyed, and the service guy told me quietly that lots of machines have to be serviced more than once for the same reason..For Hello? How about manufacturing a new part, or finding some other way to deal with this design defect? Nope. Instead, it was better for them to keep fixing the machines. After the warranty ended, the cost of the repair, plus professional packing, shipping and insurance was about $300 each trip,

Jura makes beautiful machines, but I"m not going to buy another one. The company doesn''t care about its customers once they get your money.

Bought this capuccino maker about 7 months ago, so we know it well. The initial rationale was that we would save 8 dollars a day and countless wait time both of us stopping at starbucks every day. That has happened. I have been to starbucks twice since I bought this. It makes a pretty good cappuccino, I would say is on par with starbucks, my gold standard. The coffee setting tastes different, since it is really a cup of watered down espresso, but you aren''t buying this to brew coffee.

In spite of having the tallest spout on the market (at least at the time of my purchase), I still cannot fit my travel mug under it. You know the stainless steel, 16 oz mug you would want to fill up giving you a vente latte on the way out the door. Maybe they dont use these travel mugs in Switzerland, but we all do here... (In fact, I had to build my own wooden holder that holds a tilted travel mug under the spout.)

Well not only does the standard version of such mug not actually fit, (most are about .5 to 1 cm off), it brings up my second point, its almost hot enough. Well if you have prewarmed your cup in the microwave, and sat down to sip you cappuccino right then, the temperature will be a barely "ok". But if you are used to ordering your starbucks extra hot, your definately going to be found wanting. And if you have to dispense your drink into a cup, and then transfer your drink to your tall travel mug because it wont fit, your really going to be dissapointed in the temperature.

A few other gripes: the thing will only stay on 2 hours, IE it will always turn off, kudos to their green power saving. Problem is, it takes a solid 3 minutes or so to warm up. Then each type of drink you make only contains one shot of espresso. If you want 8 oz of milk with three shots of espresso, you have to turn it on, stand there for 3 minutes for it warm up, then push a button to put an 8 oz cappuccino in, wait another 2 or 3 minutes, then push the button for another shot of espresso, another 1-2 min, then push for another shot of espresso in, another 1-2 moinutes. Does that sound "one touch" to you? For me, it is stading next to a machine for 10 minutes, which is exactly what I am supposed to not have to do. (Not to mention, in the middle of all this you might run out of water, need to empty the tray, or add beans. The chances of one of these lottery wins in your 3 button oddessey are probably 25%)

What this machine needs are:

Taller spout

The milk needs a temperature setting, its not hot enough for me.

The machine needs a timer, so it can turn on in the morning and warm up.

Programmable drinks with multiple shots.

Larger bean bin, it probly cooks up only a dozen shots or so per bin.

For three grand, these things should be a given!

There are so many problems with this product I scarcely know where to start. The first sign of trouble is the manual: it is all but incomprehensible and only describes some of the maintenance required to keep the unit functioning. In other words, after diligently completing all the maintenance requested by the manual, the unit would still break down every couple of months; when I''d call customer service, I''d learn that far more maintenance is needed if you want to keep the unit functioning for long. Unfortunately, experience has taught me that even the most extensive maintenance will only delay but not prevent the unit from breaking down.

The need for endless maintenance is annoying since the main advantage of the unit is its ostensible convenience: in other words, it is true that you can make a cappuccino with one touch -but what they don''t tell you is that after that one touch you''ll need to complete half a dozen or a dozen steps before making another one. This obviously isn''t very convenient, nor is it inexpensive: I''ve spent countless hours and hundreds of dollars on cleaning fluids, cleaning tablets, filters, and decalcifying tablets in an attempt to keep it functioning, but all this has only delayed the inevitable breakdown.

And this is where things get ugly: after the unit failed completely recently, I contacted Capresso and was told I could get the unit repaired for a $300 fee. I sent the unit in, and to their credit, it was returned promptly; unfortunately, I could see no evidence that the unit had actually been repaired: when I started it up and filled it with water, the unit proceeded to dump the water all over the counter. I thus contacted Capresso and asked them to send out shipping labels so I could return the unit and have them correct the repair. I received no response. After waiting three business days, I asked again; still no response. After waiting three more days, I let them know that I had contacted my credit card and would be refusing the charges until such time as the unit was actually repaired; within the hour I received an email apologizing and letting me know that the customer service manager was out of the office and would return the next day. I thus waited three more days but never heard anything from the customer service manager. I then wrote to the company president asking him to intercede and address the problem: after a month, I still haven''t heard anything from him.

But the extraordinary inability to provide even the most basic level of customer service isn''t my main complaint with the product: my main complaint is that it doesn''t make very good espresso. I say this, not because I consider myself an expert when it comes to evaluating espresso, but because the unit simply does not work with pre-ground espresso. In other words, I''ve tried pre-ground espresso from each and every brand I can find; they all cause the unit to clog and thus leak. Worse, when I called to ask about this, I was told it was "normal" and that I would need to use the grinder instead. At that time, I didn''t realize that if the unit couldn''t process pre-ground espresso, then it presumably wasn''t grinding the beans to the same level of fineness as pre-ground espresso. As a result, what Capresso calls espresso is quite different from what I''m used to: its quite thin and watery and I''ve never found a way to make it any thicker. If you''re a fan of espresso, I''d encourage you to find the unit in a store and see if their version of espresso is to your liking. Of course, this may prove hard to do: Williams-Sonoma no longer carries Capresso products, and I''m not sure if you''ll be able to find anyone who still does. Given my experience with both their customer service and the quality of the products offered by Capresso, I''m sorry to say I simply don''t find this surprising.

We purchased this machine in May 2012 for use in a small office. We probably make 2 or 3 cups of cappuccinos and an espresso each day. The original machine started giving an error message to "add beans" even though the bin was full of beans about 4 weeks after purchase. We were told to remove all the beans and `air out'' the machine because there might be an oil build up (oil from the beans). We scooped out the beans and let it `air out'' over the weekend and it still didn''t work on Monday. I called customer service again and did everything they told me to do but it still didn''t work. So we shipped back the machine and they shipped us a new Z7. After about 4 weeks the 2nd machine stopped making froth for the cappuccino. Customer service told us that it could be the froth dial. We could not use the machine but they sent us a new froth dial and it worked. 8 weeks later, here we go again we''re getting a "add beans" message on the 2nd machine. To make matters worse, even the hot water sprout stopped working so we can''t even make a cup of tea. The machine does nothing. We called Customer Service and were told, AGAIN, to remove all the beans and `air out'' the machine because there might be an oil build up, etc. We scooped out the beans and let it `air out'' over the weekend and it still hasn''t worked for 5 days. This time because we''ve had the machine for over 3 months JURA won''t send a replacement. We have to find a box and ship the 2nd machine back to them. JURA doesn''t even pay for UPS to pick-up the machine they send a receipt but you have to carry the machine to a UPS drop off location. I have a bad back and the machine weights approximately 40 pounds packed this is inconvenient and is a big deal to me. It''s too late to get our money back so we are stuck with the JURA Z7 but we are not pleased with it at all. I would NOT purchase this machine again ever. For $3,000 I expect a machine that works for more than 4 weeks before needing to be repaired. Do not purchase if you want a machine that works.

Honeywell #V400 1.5GAL Mist Impeller Save 11% Off

Honeywell #V400 1.5GAL Mist ImpellerDuring the winter, the air in our home is VERY dry so I was not turned off by reviews of this humidifier producing too much moisture. Boy was I wrong! After 3 consecutive days of overnight use, the carpet was drenched AND there was this odd white dust on everything within a 2-3 foot radius of the humidifier! I''ve used it on and off for the last few months and the results were ALWAYS the same....wet carpet and white dust. Needless to say, I am in the process of looking into humidiers that don''t drench carpet or produce white dust.

I read all the other complaints. I can honestly say that I never had any problem with this item. In fact, it was easy to use and easy for me to clean. I never had excess water in the air, on the floor, too much noise, mold, or any of the other plethora of complaints. I never had a defect in it and it worked fine from the first day that I got it. I bought it because my daughter had a horrific congestion problem and the air in my house is pretty dry. I fully expect a humidifier to send water into the air. I never had any white film and I have a whole house water softening system. I used the Vicks menthol gel on the inside to give it more of the eucalyptus scent in the air and to ease her congestion and it worked very well. I used it for a long time, stored it, and brought it out again and had no problem. In all, I really like this product. It was economically priced and easy to use. I would buy another one if I needed it.

This humidifier is horrible. I registered for it without reading the reviews and I actually got it. Anyhow, my daughter got a stuffy nose and the pediatrican recommended using the humidifier, so I drug it out of the closet (should have kept it there). The first couple of nights I used it I would notice the water build up on the top of the humidifier and then I noticed that it dripped onto her dresser. I went out an bought a vinyl placemat. Then about a week later I noticed that the carpet was wet. I thought that maybe it just dripped off the dresser, but that wasn''t the case. The carpet was wet beyond the dresser. I read the instructions and it basically said that if is does that then it needs to be cleaned. So, I cleaned it again and again. I never had such a product that needed to be cleaned so often in order for it to work properly. The filters are also very hard to find. I did finally find them at CVS. This is another product that if you decide to go against the reviews and try it for yourself, you better SAVE THE RECEIPT!

I wish I had the option for 0 stars. This humidifier SOAKS the carpet. I have to use a shower curtain liner to protect my floor, and a towel to soak up all the water. Needless to say, this is very inconvienient. Plus, it makes the room smell funny, and it leaves a white dust over everything. Only this was not warned on the package, only in the manual. I''ve had it less than a month and it is already making a loud racket. After spending $30, we have to buy something else.

Want Honeywell #V400 1.5GAL Mist Impeller Discount?

Our climate is normally humid, and we have had to put a towel underneath, it to protect any furniture. I would do this anyways, even if it didn''t spit out water. The rooms in our house run medium to a large open space. We have not had the problem others have mentioned, of it pooling on the floor. Nor have we seen any of the white dust other reviews mention, either.

I have, however, received the benefit, or rather, my children have, of this humidifier. Last year, my child had a bad cough. I had this brand humidifier and ran it 24/7. The pediatrician said it was good thing I had, otherwise, the cough could have become something more serious.

This year, I have two in school. I have had the occasional need to run it, when one of them starts sniffling. There have been many times, they are fine the very next morning.

The humidifier is not silent running, however, as someone else mentioned, the sound of it running does not bother my children, and it does lull them to sleep.

I also set one up in our living room, this past Christmas, because we had a live tree. I could tell a difference from doing that this year, and not having done that in previous years. Either we just lucked up on a really good tree, or the humidifier made a big difference.

We''ve been using this brand for at least two years and other than the occasional pooling around the opening, we have not had any major problems.

The phone number to re-order filters is on the back of the filter itself (the top of the frame, you may need to hold it under the light to read it). Also, I spoke to the manager of the parmacy we got the humidifiers from, and the manager keeps the filters in stock for us. If I don''t feel like going in person to the store, I order them online.

I have tried other brand humidifiers and not had as good a result in using them, as we have this brand and model. The others just did not raise the level of humidity to where it needed to be.

I give this one a four, because of the fact, yes it does spit water out around the opening. But it has not been a major problem for us.

So one fine day our Kenmore Refrigerator''s water dispenser stopped working. So we called Sear and they took 3 weeks to get to your home. When they came , they said that they needed to replace this part and that the total cost of all labor and parts would come too $350. That was ridiculous as all I had to do was add another hundred bucks or so and get a brand new fridge. So we went online and purchased this from amazon.com and then replaced the faulty part ourselves. Mind you we have never done anything like this before and we were so proud of ourselves. The instructions are very clear and it is very easy to replace it.

This doesn''t have the smaller part shown in the picture but luckily i did not need it. Works good but if you happen to need that small part, this will not work for you.

I was under the impression that this kit came with everything pictured. The front water inlet valve did not come with this kit. just the rear part of the valve with the 2 that goes to the water dispenser and ice maker came with the kit. I was surprised that it only took 2 days to deliver, we also have prime though.I will have to try and rig it together and see how it goes

Kaz Incorporated V3900 Germ Free Cool Mist Humidifier Save 62% Off

Kaz Incorporated V3900 Germ Free Cool Mist HumidifierWe used to have a Crane duck humidifier (that worked really well) in our toddler''s room, but it broke when I dropped it earlier this winter. I bought this Vick''s humidifier as a replacement because it "Sanitizes the water with UV Technology while reducing up to 99.9% of bacteria, mold, and spores". This was a big selling point for me, and I thought it would be worth the cost. We have been using this humidifier for 2+ months, and I am very disappointed for the following reasons:

1. We need a humidifier because the winters are very dry here. My son''s skin tends to be dry, his nose especially. It does not seem like this humidifier is helping at all. His skin and nose are just as dry. This humidifier puts out "invisible, moisture-balanced air", so it just feels like a cool fan blowing, and you can''t actually see the mist. I''m not sure if being able to see (or not see) the mist makes any difference, but something isn''t working because it is still too dry in his small room.

2. There are three levels: High (max moisture), Medium (moisture maintenance mode), and Low (sound sleeping mode). So yes, this humidifier is pretty quiet, but only on the "Low" setting. I thought I could just crank it up to "High" to put more moisture in the air, but on that setting the humidifier is too loud and my son is unable to sleep through it. So I tried "Medium", which is a little loud, but still not helping with the dryness. I have tried "High" during the day/"Low" at night, and also "Medium" all the time, but it is still too dry in his room.

3. We use a sound-only baby monitor in our son''s room. When the humidifier setting is on "Medium" or "High", we are unable to hear anything through the monitor except the humidifier. It''s not that big of a deal for us (because we don''t really need to use the monitor for our toddler), but take this into consideration if you are buying this for an infant''s room.

4. This 1-gallon tank is supposed to last for up to 24 hours. It does, but only if you leave it on "Low" all of the time. When left on "Medium", it has to be refilled every 16 hours, approximately.

On the plus side, it is easy to fill, and the reservoir does seem to stay cleaner than the Crane did. These are the only reasons that I did not give it 1 star. I really wished that this worked better for us because the idea of a humidifier that helps to reduce the amount of bacteria in the air is really appealing.

When I received this humidifier, I was very pleased with the design, how efficiently it used water, and the fact that the UV light killed 99.9% of the germs. The noise emitted from the humidifier was minimal, but I found the blue light on the dial annoying. Still, that complaint was minor. All things appeared well until I awoke this morning to find that the towel the humidifier was sitting on was soaking wet. I''ve always been careful with placing a humidifier on furniture and never had a problem with one leaking. That all changed with this unit. Not only do I have a faulty unit, but now the top of my good wood furniture is ruined! I believe this humidifier hasn''t been out too long, and I would recommend waiting to purchase it until all the kinks have been worked out!

Bought the Vicks 3900 humidifier (with the UV light) and used it every night. The instructions suggest replacing the filter once every 1-3 months. The filter developed mold and dirty buildup within about 1 month. The unit began to to emit a moldy smell soon after. The humidifier basically becomes a mold growing and spraying unit unless you keep up with cleaning and buying new $12 filters every few weeks.

Bought one of these for baby''s room, had it for a year, no problems. Just bought 3 more. Have a humidistat, these do in fact raise the humidity, I''ve measured it. Though keep in mind a humidifier is not going to cure your baby''s nasal/respiratory completely and may not help at all...but these do provide humidity. Never had any problems. Some reviews mention "leaking"...the only way this will leak is if you somehow get water in the fan assemble inside, then it drains out some holes on the bottom(did this accidentally while cleaning it--there are signs telling which way to drain it to avoid this), otherwise there is no logical way these can leak...it has to be user error.

Recieved today. I like it. I really like the fact that it is germ free... The noise level is good for the type of humidifier it is. If you want very quite go for an ultra sonic.....I like the fact that you can use vicks tabs if you want to, but it is completely optional. The only thing I dislike, is that the vents are on the bottom and are angle to blow down...I would rather them blow up, or even better just make them adjustable. Overall, would buy again.

I have had my coffemaker for over 2 years and in that time I have known that I needed to buy new filters. And after much searching I knew that the only place to find these filters is here at Amazon. But I kept putting off the purchase because I felt that $10 was a little excessive for only 2 filters and that there was no need to have another pod holder when the one that came with the coffepot was still good. Well I finally broke down and purchased the new filters and now I am glad I did. The filters do actually help improve the taste of the coffee. The first batch of coffee I made with the new filter tasted much better than the coffee I had made the morning before. It is just a shame that the filters only last 60 days. All I can say is that if you can afford to do it, buy these filters and enjoy a great tasting cup of coffee.

I agree with the rest of the reviews...this is pretty expensive for a tiny little filter, and providing an additional handle/holder for it is unnecessary...In fact, I have the new BrewMaster Deluxe model and the replacement handle is too long...I only discovered this after I threw out the other one, and had to go back and dig through the garbage to retrieve it. I''m going to end up with a kitchen drawer full of them!

Bialetti Moka Express 9-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Save 9% Off

Bialetti Moka Express 9-Cup Stovetop Espresso MakerThis unit is a great little device for making strong coffee (somewhere between espresso and regular coffee, closer to the espresso side) in an elegant way, and it''s designed to last a long time.

The coffee produced is extracted using steam that is generated when the bottom part of the pot gets heated from placing the unit on a stove top. You have to experiment to find the right low-to-medium heat to get the best results. Too low and it will not boil, but you probably want it just above that and not too hot. I have found a setting where it will boil in 5 mins, and then the coffee comes up in 1 minute or less. So, a total of 6 minutes, which is not bad at all. As mentioned, what''s produced is close to what we call "espresso" in the US, but it is not the same thing. It is not as strong and with not quite the same taste as full-blown espresso created using an automatic or semi-automatic espresso maker. It''s much stronger and more flavorful than regular coffee, though. I used the same Intelligentsia Coffee House Blend (a great coffee) through my French press and then the Moka pot, and the taste difference was eye-opening. Apparently, these stove-top coffee makers are the norm in Italy, and practically everybody has one.

If you enjoy taking your time making your coffee, this is a beautiful unit that creates great coffee (and apparently it gets better over time, as the coffee oils seep into the aluminum). And as mentioned, it''s actually not that slow. It''s a nice "coffee ritual." It''s made in Italy. It only has three parts, which are easy to clean and look virtually impossible to break, so it will last.

The only potential downsides are:

(a) you need coffee ground to the correct size. Either you should get pre-ground Illy Coffee or else you should get a good grinder that can grind to just above espresso fineness. When using whole bean coffee, our old blade grinder does not work well at all with this (sometimes it''s acceptable, sometimes hardly any coffee comes out), but we have a Vario on the way, so all is good... But it is a given that a grinder is extremely important regardless of what method of coffee brewing you use. So -get a good grinder!

(b) you can only make the same amount of coffee each time. For example, we have the version that says 6 on the side (6 cup?) and it makes just enough for my wife and myself. (It doesn''t actually make 6 cups, as far as I can tell -it''s more like 2 cups for us). That is, you cannot just put in less ground coffee and less water to make less coffee. If you do that, the mechanics of the steam don''t work and you won''t get proper coffee as a result. So, make sure you get the correct size for your use.

This thing is so cheap and well-made that anyone who loves coffee should have one around to try out or for occasional use. Ours will get regular use, alternating with our French press. I was very happy to find this.

The Bialetti Moka Express 3-Cup Coffeemaker is fantastic. I enjoy it immensely. Word of warning, don''t forget to put water in it before placing on the stove! And if you have a gas stove with an open flame, do not use a flame that exceeds the size of the coffeemaker. The handle will melt.

Buy Bialetti Moka Express 9-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Now

Too many words would ruin the simplicity and elegance. It simply makes delicious espresso, quickly and with a minimum of effort. Cleans up in about 2 minutes...I take mine camping.

The "cup" ratings are for small, traditional sized espresso cups. If you like to pour a mug full of espresso, then divide the cup rating by 4 to arrive at an approximate size for your "machine". My nine cup maker gives me 2 full sized mugs of rich coffee. For you "crema" people...there is none.

It is inexpensive, relative to plug in type machines, so it is as nearly a risk free purchase as you can make. Enjoy.

Been using these stovetop espresso maker''s for 20 years. I was shocked to take my latest one out of it''s box and discovered it has all the substance of aluminum paper. I have older ones to compare it to. Not just insubstantial metal, but the quality of the threading between the top and the bottom you can hear crackly sound of bad metal and poor tolerances. How sad to see a classic so undermined by cost cutting.

Want Bialetti Moka Express 9-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker Discount?

I own the 3 cup model, and it is great!... but it was a bit small, so I wanted a larger capacity maker, so naturally I went to the 9 cup model. Big mistake! My 3 cup holds just over 1 US cup of water ( about 9 ounces) in the chamber, and I get about 8 ounces of finished product. Not a bad return!

The 9 cup model ( which should be three times larger) only hold about 2 US cups of water in the chamber ( 16 ounces) and because of the larger basket, and using three times more ground coffee, only produces one cup ( 8 ounces) of finished product ( about one cup of water is held in the coffee grounds).

Don''t bother.

I''m keeping my 3 cupper and returning the 9 cup.

Two weeks later, the lights stopped working, I started to freak out, but i unscrewed the whole thing and waited a couple of days and put it back on, and it began working great again. The shower head works but I wouldn''t drop it. The plastic outer cover (the one where the water goes through) is loose and the water comes out the sides. I''ll probably have to use glue or Teflon tape to hold it in place.

After having to buy additional hard ware to install and an additional hanger for the shower head we got it installed. It worked great for about a week or two, then the light stopped working. Great disappointment, seeing as how we had to make the additional changes to our shower to accommodate the shower head. Also, if you aren''t that handy and need good directions and a list of what else you need to make this product work, don''t get this. The directions to install are about 1/2 a page and you can only find the addition pieces after much searching. Definitely would not recommend this to anyone.

The product works as advertised. There''s a slight noise problem, but that''s to be expected when the shower head contains a turbine generator. What I didn''t expect was the low pressure of the water that comes out. Yes, the product text says it does reduce flow a bit, but most shower head manufacturers fix that by mixing in air, or reducing the diameter of the jets in order to keep pressure up. If that was done here, it would be a truly excellent product.

I read the reviews of others, I have to say I did not have their issues. I like it, I have no problems with it. It works just fine, hard to believe at that price. It is really cute. I have had it for more than a month now and everyone in the family thinks it is neat.

I used some teflon tape when I attached my existing hose and had no leaks at all. At first glance I thought the threads could be a little smoother but actually it was no problem at all and I did not do anythng special to the threads. Just screwed it on.

Also the temperature feature where the LED''s change color with the temperature works spot on, as a product development engineer I was tracking that feature.

Ettore 30116 Squeegee Off Window Cleaning Soap

Ettore 30116 Squeegee Off Window Cleaning Soap, 16-OunceI''ve been using the Squeegee Off system for over a year on many large and medium windows around my home. I''m impressed by consistently high quality results. Best of all, it takes most of the work out of washing windows. I can do a big window in about three minutes or even less. A medium window takes about a minute. I''ve tried a lot of systems but this one works: its easy to set up, its fast and I get extremely clear glass.

I bought a bottle of Ettore concentrate in 1993 (!!!!!), and am still using the same bottle and I am a major clean freak when it comes to glass. My neighbor, whose son had the window cleaning contract for the World Trade Center (sniff...), said his workers used it on the towers, and made his mother use it. She in turn recommended it to me...WOW! The product is amazing--such a small amount does so much. I can do the exteriors of four rooms of floor-to-ceiling sliding doors in twenty minutes--total--then come in and do the interiors in the same amount of time! All these years laters, I am still always surprised at how easily this works and how satisfied I am with the results.

We have a lot of windows which are high off the ground. We use long extensions poles, one for washing and the other for the squeegee. There is no good way to rub out streaks, so this product is great since it doesn''t leave streaks.

We got a bottle of this years ago and just finished it off. (We only clean the outside windows with it.) We used to mix up a gallon to use, but didn''t need that much, so now we only mix half a gallon. That''s 32 window cleaning sessions per bottle, which lasts us about 8 years (every other month when it''s not too cold).

Hario VKB-120HSV V60 Coffee Drip Kettle Buono Save 22% Off

Hario VKB-120HSV V60 Coffee Drip Kettle BuonoThings you need to know before buying:

I used a regular pot with a pour spout 3 months before I purchased this kettle. The following points are based primarily on the differences I noticed between the regular pot and the kettle.

1. The pour control with the kettle is VASTLY superior to the control you get with a product with a normal "spout" area. The kettle''s thin spout and long distance the water has to travel gives you a small, smooth stream in which to pour on your coffee grounds.

2. Because of the points in #1, the kettle allows you to pour water over the coffee smoothly and at a consistent pace, therefore giving you an EVEN extraction of your coffee, which translates to a nice, consistent taste in your cup. This is what you''re going for.

3. The kettle holds enough water for about 5 regular cups of coffee (i.e. it holds ~40 ounces of water). I own the 40oz Chemex coffee maker, so for me, a full kettle = a full pot of coffee.

4. The kettle is SAFE to boil your water with. However, the conductivity of the kettle''s metal is not as good as a standard pot, so it will take you roughly twice as long to boil water in the kettle versus boiling it in a pot. (I bought a separate water kettle for this reason.)

5. As mentioned in other reviews, this kettle is hard to clean. The opening is hard to get your hand into, and the small spout makes everything but a pipe cleaner impossible to clean the inside. If you live in an area with hard water (like I do), then you''ll want to filter your water before using this kettle to cut down on the deposit build up.

Hands-down, this kettle gives you the control you need to make an excellent cup of coffee. If you brew your coffee through a pour over method (such as the Chemex), then this is the kettle for you. Other than the cleaning difficulty and long(ish) time it takes for this kettle to boil water, I highly recommend this product.

If you found this helpful, click the little box below!

I knew what every review said about this product, but I couldn''t justify the price. So instead for my pour over (either hario v60 or chemex) I would pour out of a 12 ounce frothing pitcher with a good spout on it.

Let me tell you. The Buono kettle is in a whole different league. The amount of control is amazing. I didn''t really think it would make that big of a difference. But I am now a true believer in what all the reviews say. I would almost go as far as recommending saving up to buy this kettle first, then buy your V60 or Chemex pour over brewing device second (not really...but you get what I am saying).

The only comment I would give, the kettle is pretty thin metal. The bottom is not like a regular kettle''s thickness. So I hear and think it is fine to put on a gas stove, but since I do not have to, I am going to hold out.

Also the kettle holds a constant temperature pretty well. Starting with a not preheated kettle. I poured boiling water in, put the lid on a 30 seconds later the temp was 206. Once it got down to 203 I started my pour. 2 minutes into my pour my temp was 200 and at the end of my pour it was down to about 198.

This product has one thing--and only one thing--going for it: its spout, which allows you to control the flow of water when brewing coffee using the pour-over method.

Otherwise, it has a few things going against it:

1. The price: it simply costs too much for what it offers.

2. The quality: it is very light-weight, flimsy stainless steel, and it rusts on the bottom (which is inexcusable for a tea kettle costing this much).

3. The design: It narrows toward the top, making it very inconvenient to wash and dry the inside (my had cannot fit through the top, and water gets trapped in the edges of the much wider base). If you fill the kettle and bring it to a rolling boil, water will actually boil out of the spout. Finally, it does not have any calibration lines on the inside indicating how many cups of water are in the kettle, which would have been handy.

Unless Hario happens to hold a patent on a kettle with a spout like this, there is room here for another company to design a much more solid, better designed product, in my opinion. Ideally, someone would make an electric kettle of this design (all stainless steel, no plastic of any kind anywhere, a narrow pour spout) that allowed you to set the temperature you want the water to reach and maintain. Hard to believe this is unavailable at any price, but I have yet to find it (please let me know in comments if you know of one!).

For now, we''re stuck with the Hario, which does the job adequately, if a bit expensively.

UPDATE: Our wait is over, folks; the perfect kettle has arrived: Bonavita 1-Liter Variable Temperature Digital Electric Gooseneck Kettle

I love this kettle, it is perfect for pour over coffee and it feels wonderful in the hand. There is one HUGE problem and that is RUST!!! On the inside of the kettle, around the seams at the base, rust has developed. Not a lot of rust, but after two weeks this should not have occured. Mind you, when I am finished using my kettle in the morning, I always wipe it down inside and out. I think Japanese made and that usually means impeccable quality, but somehow this kettle fails to perform. I love the design and feel of this kettle, but where is the quality control???

UPDATE 2-17-2012: I checked at my local coffee shop, Catalina Coffee, and their Hario kettles are perfect with no rust. Maybe in their rush to make new kettles due to the popularity of the pourover, Hario''s quality control slipped a bit.

UPDATE 2-23-2012: I tried to return this with the company I purchased with on Amazon called M Deals, here is a segment of their response to me about my return request: "Unfortunately, we cannot accept return at this moment. You have been using this kettle for 3 weeks. The item you carry is exactly same item with the one from your local coffee shop. Hario kettle we are selling is the original made in Japan product. You need to use drinking water and clean it after each use. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you for contacting M Deals." WHAT?????!!!!!! I have used it for 3 weeks and it developed rust, and that''s acceptable to them? I need to use drinking water????!!!!! What do they think that I have been putting in there to make my coffee?? Unfortunately you run into a bad vendor on Amazon, and M DEALS DOES NOT STAND BEHIND WHAT THEY SELL and they do a horrible job of taking care of their customers. Buy the Hario kettle from anybody but M Deals!!!

UPDATE 5-20-2012: In March, I purchased a new non rusting Hario kettle from the nice folks at Seattle Coffee Gear. I love it!! My other rusting Hario kettle has been reassigned to watering herbs in my garden and for watering my Bonsai trees. It performs like a champ in its new job!!

Want Hario VKB-120HSV V60 Coffee Drip Kettle Buono Discount?

Purchased both Hario V60 and Bonavita BV3825ST non-electric gooseneck kettles from Amazon.

Country of Origin:

Hario: Made in Japan.

Bonavita: Made in China.

Capacity:

Hario: Practical capacity: .8 liter. Full capacity 1.2 liters.

Bonavita: Capacity: 1 liter.

Spout:

Hario: Gooseneck spout attached to body at lower point. Less water remains pooled at the bottom after complete pouring.

Bonavita: Gooseneck spout attached to body at higher point. More water remains pooled at the bottom after complete pouring.

Ergonomics:

Hario: Straight handle. Ergonomics not optimal.

Bonavita: Curved handle. Ergonomics better.

Product Material:

Hario: Stainless steel heavier and thicker. Seems higher quality steel. Handle good.

Bonavita: Stainless steel lighter and thinner. Handle good.

Quality of Construction:

Hario: Spout and handle attached with quality hardware. Seems more secure.

Bonavita: Spout and handle securely attached, but hardware appears to be less durable.

Design:

Hario: Lid does not fit tight. Will fall out when tipped at certain angle.

Bonavita: Lid fits tight. Will not fall out when tipped at certain angle. Handle has two screws located on underside at top, which impact finger comfort. Body has unfinished/uncurved inside top lip, which impacts hand comfort when cleaning inside body.

Appearance: Both look nice. Bonavita sits about an inch taller because of the design of the lid.

Pour Rate: Practically the same.

Recommendation: Both Hario and Bonavita will get the job done. I chose to keep Hario, because of the quality. But if money or style is a factor, Bonavita will work just fine. An alternative to these kettles, which I have not tried but appears to be of a very high quality, is the Kalita Wave Pot Kettle from Japan, priced at $107.Kalita 52073 Wave Pot Kettle

Want GE Smartwater Water Filter Adapter Discount?

Some time ago I bought a house which had no fridge, and I couldn''t afford new so wound up with a 12 year old GE Profile with ice maker/dispenser. The filter that was still in it was an old metal FXRC type, dated June 2000. (Yuck...) I just ran the water line, then found and ordered this adapter along with a new MWF cartridge and--voilà! Clean fresh water and ice, no leaks...perfect. It mounted above the upper shelf to the right and in the back. There was plenty of clearance for the filter/adapter combination.

My refrigator went out and had to get a replacment fast so got a used refrigator to hold us till we decided on which new one to purchase. well it didn''t come with a water filter and we couldn''t find one any where. Till I came across the Smartwater filter adapter and order it, when it arrived I put it on and it has worked out great. So now I can replace filter easly with filters sold at local hardware stores using this adapter.
