My main sewer line was plugged enough that we suddenly had sewage backed up into the shower in the master bath at the rear of our house. My experience had always been that if the off the shelf products worked half as well as advertised that plumbers would be a lot more idle. At my wife''s prodding and, when the plumber I contacted the day before hadn''t even called by 1:30 that afternoon I reluctantly looked online for recommended products and found this one that was available at the big box home store near my house. We''ve been having ''plumbing probs since we''ve moved into this house, but lately it''s been so bad that whenever we did a load of laundry had to jump up during the draining process and continually open the washer lid or it would back up into kitchen sink then overflow out of washer pipe end. By now, Hubby is convinced that we either need to go to the home improvement store and buy some expensive machine to clean out the pipe,spend loads of money to replace the pipe (thats galvanized steel instead of pvc when apparently shows the age of house), or just call a plumber...I suggest that before going the expensive route, we go back to the home improvement store, explore our options, then decide.

We get to the store and look around...Hubby doesn''t think that any type of ''chemicals'' will work but all the things he thinks we will need are super expensive and taxing so I start reading the back of the chemical containers as he goes off to ask an associate for assistance...The guy comes back with hubby and we explain the problem and he suggests....dah dah! chemicals! We later go back for another gallon just to be sure as it says on the back that 2 gallons may be needed for severe clogs.

Finally get this stuff in the sink drain and washer drain last night and let it soak overnight per the directions then rinsed out with hot water this morning again per the directions...Woot! not only is it not backing up anymore but the water from the washer is flowing better than it ever has in the almost 3 years since we''ve been here! We''ve lived in our house only 3 years and already I''ve spent over $1000 on two incidents of a clog in a waste pipe where the master bath drain comes down and meets with the kitchen waste line. I purchased two gallons of this product in December to remove a clog from my main line. I applied the product in the lowest drain in the house, last thing before bed. I even shut off the water lines to all of the sinks and toilets in the house to give it every chance to work for eight hours uninterrupted. Nothing. I suspect that root growth in the line was causing the problem, so I''m not surprised dumping a bunch of lye down there didn''t work. At any rate, Scotch Corp. did refund the full cost of both of the bottles I bought, though it did take several weeks to process.
