My wife bought this for me as a birthday gift. I am a coffee fanatic and this is my first dripper and it works great. It''s more than a great conversation piece. It produces coffee that is pure with no acidity. It doesn''t replace the 10 cup drip maker I have for guests, but it''s perfect for my demanding palate! I recommend high quality beans that are ground fine and fresh. Watch the youtube video for easy first time instructions.

I have made a few great jars of coffee with this and a few so-so jars. You need to get used to it and figure out the right balance. Unfortunately, this unit was rendered useless by my losing of the metal filter. Hario does not offer replacements for it, however, every single other part is available, so feel free to break/lose those. This really sucks.

I was cautious about purchasing this product after reading the reviews but decided to go with it anyway. The truth is it makes great coffee once you locate the instructions written in English and then follow them. My coffee shop purchases have gone down and previous coffee makers are shelved. You do have to be proactive because it takes about 5 hours to produce the coffee that then lasts about a week. Somethings, however, are just worth waiting for in life.

Kind of fun to look at, but you know the owner of it is a hipster d-bag.

I received mine as a gift (see first sentence) and wowwhat a gift! First, it''s enormous! 18" tall and 6 inches wide! Taller than most counters can accommodate with cupboards. It''s a tower of plastic. Second, it''s neither pretty, nor easy to use. The coffee it produced is so-so. I suppose if you have an ulcer, chronic heartburn or live in upstate New York then weak flavorless coffee is for you! But if you want a good, bold cup of coffeethen this is an expensive, flamboyant way to make sure you don''t get one. This is like buying an iPad to use as a cutting boardstupidly expensive, wasteful and everyone who sees you using it will instantly hate you forever.

Bottom line: If you want to alienate friends and loved ones and die alone in a gutter, this coffee maker is for you! But if, like me, you want to lead a long, happy and fulfilling life surrounded by friends and family, buy a plastic Melitta cone for $5.00, some filters Melitta 64008 Red Ready Set Joe Filter Cone Melitta Cone Coffee Filters, Natural Brown, No. 2, 40-Count Filters (Pack of 12) and NEVER, EVER pour boiling water over ground coffee! Boil the water, remove from heat, wait till water stops boiling (a few seconds) then slowly pour over ground coffee, stirring a little. That, my friends, is how to make the perfect cup of coffee.
