Live in a rural area, have my own well. I have been using these filters for almost 15 years and they work good for removing silt and sand. Your water heater and washing machine will last longer. Moved into home that had a well pump. Was told that there was not maintenance on the well. That was bad advice. The filter should be changed 2-3 times a year. Our filter broke and we had all kinds of dirt in the water when bathing. Ordered new filter and gasket on amazon and had it day and 1/2 later. New one works great. After I found that it fit our system perfectly I have signed up for the subscription so I should be getting a new one every 6 months. I also ordered a backup one to put on the shelf in case I need one sooner.

We use alot of well water in the summer for yard sprinklers. The larger 50 micron filter lasts longer than the GE products for a lower price.

I tried this 50 micron Culligan filter as a replacement for the 30 micron filter (GE FXHSC) I used before. The GE filter used to work but clogs up in about 2 months. This filter did not clog up, but I started seeing fine sediment at the taps i.e., the filter holes in Culligan are too wide. Although 30 and 50 micron seem close in size, one has to remember that the size of the holes in the filter are proportional to the square of the width of the hole thus a 50 micron filter''s holes are about 2.5 times as large as those of a 30 micron filter. I cant blame the filter, but it doesn''t work for my well. The upshot is I went back to the original GE filter. If you want to try it out as an alternative to the GE filter, order one first ...
