Marella Kompakt 5-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher

Marella Kompakt 5-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher, BlueI''ve used all 3 of the major brands (Pur, Brita and Mavea) so here are my comments on my Mavea:

Pros:

1) Convenient opening on top. You can add water without having take off the whole top.

Cons:

1) The seal between the filter and the pitcher is not good. A little bit of water always falls into the no-mans-land cavity that is between the filter and the exit to the bottom. I have to take the filter out once in a while to get rid of this water. This is not a good design.

2) The lid that covers the spout causes the water to drip a little after pouring. This is not a good design.

3) The water from the Pur pitcher tastes better, it''s more sweet. This water is a little bit more metallic tasting.

I haven''t decided if I''ll keep this pitcher yet. Right now, we''re using this as a secondary pitcher near the bedrooms so people don''t have to keep going down to the kitchen to get water. But so far, I prefer the Pur pitcher.

Update:

1) The water tastes better now after 5-6 pitcher''s worth (and that''s after discarding the 1st 2).

2) I really like the convenient opening on top, everyone complains about having to pry up the Pur pitcher''s lid.

So so far it''s 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of another. I''m keeping this.

Update 2:

1) I''ve examined at the pitcher closely and discovered that there isn''t a leak between the filter seal and the exit, it''s the way it''s designed. The water from the top goes down through the filter, then it goes into a small compartment with a lip. When the water in this compartment rises above the lip it drops into the reservoir below. It looks like what this does is to prevent water in the reservoir from backflowing up to the top when pouring. So the only con of this pitcher is that it drips a little when pouring, a minor issue.

This filter is great!! I have used Brita, Pur and the Mavea is easilly my favorite. I got this one because I thought it would be more space effiecient, which it is but not by much. I really enjoy this thing! You don''t have to take the lid off, and the water from the top thats filtering down doesn''t spill out into your cup when you pour the filtered water! GENIOUS! It''s like the fixed all of the design flaws from Brita, including the black specs that look like pepper and get in your drinking cup, and I have no problem with Pur, but the mavea has an ace, and its not even up their sleave! its called meavea Filter Take-Back and Recycle Program (probably a more attractive name before translated from German). Basically, you will only have to buy 6 Filters for life. You have to buy 6 because they want to reduce their carbon footprint, so you can''t send 1 at a time. It is still awesome, and I have gone through 3 filters so far without issue. Will buy my last 3 Mavea 1001122 Maxtra Replacement Filter for Mavea Water Filtration Pitcher, 3-Pack for life! pretty sweet if you ask me! The tase is the same as filtered water, not exactly a 7 on the hp scale, but pretty dang close. ( AKA doesn''t taste like Fresh Spring Water with 7 different stages of filtration, and reverse osmosis, but it tastes like tap water that was filtered really nicely by a good filter, such as a Pur or Brita. I prefer the Mavea to those, mailny because of the recylcing, but also I dislike Brita because of the black specks. Looks like popeye seed water. in summary:

PROS:

1:The lid doesn''t allow water to spill from the filtering section into the filtered section.

2:There is a hole in the lid that can easilly be lifted with a lever at the back of the lid that allows water to be poured in without removing the lid.

3:Like the Pur that I am familiar with, there is a water filter timer. It lets you know when you need a new one.

4:Meavea Filter Take-Back and Recycle Program.

5:Water tastes great!

CONS:

1:none so far.

I love Germany. I know, I know, we need to support our Economy, and spending on anything not made here makes it harder, but we gotta make some better quality stuff! We make guns and knives really well though xD. Seriously, Germany is a well oiled machine when it comes to production. They make high quality stuff like the Proxxon rotary tool and the Mavea water filter.

Buy Marella Kompakt 5-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher Now

I''m very pleased with the Marella Kompakt from Mavea thus far. I''ve had it for a little more than 2 months. I''ve actually gone through 1 filter cartridge already, according to the handy digital readout on top of the pitcher lid. I was expecting a cartridge to last me 3 months, but I do use the pitcher a lot. I pretty much only drink water, coffee, and tea, and I use the Mavea for all 3 needs.

The water tastes good. The filtration is fast. I fill it up, mess around with something else in the kitchen for a few minutes, and it''s done by the time it has my attention again. The size is perfect for one or two people. I got the green color it''s a lovely springy leaf hue. Lastly, I''m excited about Mavea''s filter recycling program. They take back & recycle their own cartridges when you''ve used them up. I think the minimum to ship back to them is 6. I love that they do that at all!! It''s good to see more responsible companies available on the mass market.

I would buy this again.

I needed a new filtration for water pitcher and this one really works great. It works much better than the one I had.

love this so far and it uses same filter as my bosch tassimo coffee maker. One design flaw is the water that catches around the bottom of the filter. Not a deal breaker though. Fits perfectly in the refrigerator.
