I have been using this filter for the past four years, and just ordered my third pair from FiltersFast.com today. This is a replacement cartridge for the QC10 undersink filter system. It has proved to be reliable and long lasting; I usually change filters about once a year, but the one now in place was installed in May, 2011 and still does a decent job of removing all the bad tastes except the chloramine the water department is now using to chlorinate the water.One very nice feature is the quick connect-disconnect feature. No need to turn off the water supply, just twist the old cartridge off and the new one on. This is a carbon block filter, and does a much better job of removing undesirable tastes than granular carbon, and also is longer lasting.
Our water comes from deep wells in basaltic rock, and contains quite a little hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg gas). The water department does a fair but not perfect job of removing it. This filter takes all that out, along with chlorine and most other nasties that might be present. I''m disappoointed that it doesn''t remove chloramine, but then I know of no low cost filter system that does.
The other slight inconvenience comes from the 0.5 gallon per minute flow rate, which can be frustraing when filling large containers. That is a consequence of using the carbon block filter, and the good aspects far outweigh that slight inconvenience. Of course, one could always improve flow rate by installing two systems in parallel, a step I have not convinced myself would be worth the trouble and expense.
