I installed this only to find that the filter needed to be removed as I was tasting plastic. When I took the filter out it showed dark brown in the center and smelled burntthe same as I was tasting in the water. I took the cheap filter out and put a cover on the outside of the canister (as UV light is dangerous for eyes) That seemed to
be fine and seems the UV is cleaning the water for backteria. I have a undersink nice RO system so am using this as post treatment for the holding tank as over time the tanks
need to be sanitized-using UV to make sure if any bacteria in older holding tank (bladder) that the UV would take care of it. I don''t know why they don''t sell this with
a strong ceramic filter that won''t melt with the UV light but my experience is the light was too strong for the cheap poly. filter supplied with the unit.
