Capresso Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, Stainless Steel/Black, 10-CupI purchased a capresso coffemaker in the 1990''s and loved it. However it was used so much that it wore out. It lasted about 10 years. However I could never find one to replace it that I liked. Well now Capresso has finally come up with a model that is better than the one I used to own. It makes a wonderful HOT cup of coffee and it tastes so great! It''s very easy to use, especially filling the tank and I just love it. Thank you Capresso.

Looks nice on the kitchen counter. Fairly easy to fill. Removable filter holder. Comes with a gold filter or you can use #4 paper cone filters. Carafe has comfortable handle and pours easily. Construction quality seems good. Replacement carafe and other parts available from Capresso. Replaceable water filters available (which don''t work well, at least for me, a lot of spitting and steaming). I use water from a Brita filter. Makes good, hot coffee. Worth the money?....see follow-up remarks....

Follow up December 2010: Still enjoying the coffee maker.

01-31-2012: Died wouldn''t work. Came back to life on 2-1-2012. A few days ago I forgot to put the top down after filling with water and ended up with water all over the machine and counter top. I think the electronics got damp. There should be a cut out switch that prevents starting unless the top is down.

Cut one star for the flaky replaceable filters and the water problem if you leave the top up. However, the price today is about thirty bucks less than I paid originally!

08-30-2012: some rust is showing up from the base near the carafe tray. Still working okay.

02-16-2013: Three years old and still working with daily use. But -in addition to the rust on the base the black paint on the carafe tray has worn off. The unit no longer looks good on the counter (unless it has coffee in the carafe). My long-term opinion is three stars due to the rust and worn-through paint.

I bought this one after a long search to replace my Braun FlavorSelect that made an awesome cup of coffee and had no weird problems, but lasted for 8 years and then died. I first bought a Bunn and a Cuisinart and literally gave them away to Salvation Army because they didn''t do the one and only thing a coffeemaker should do that''s to make a good cup of coffee.

Yes, the reviewers are right, this unit makes a great cup of HOT coffee, but now hear the rest... I exchanged one to find that it''s a design flaw and not a defect of the first unit. Toward the end of the brewing cycle water caught between the 2 filter holders streams down the right side of the pot and onto the burner sizzling. That''s very bad for the burner and will distroy it in no time. The second problem is that it literally brings the coffee to a simmering boil immediately after it''s done brewing. It''s easiest to see when the coffeemaker is brand new and you brew water 1st time to clean the unit from the factory stuff. I hoped it was the defect of the 1st unit being cranked up too high but it''s not. So no wander the coffee is "HOT"! Everyone knows that coffee should never be boiled and here we have the coffeemaker doing it. There is no way to turn down the temperature either, so be ware, even for those of us who insist on hot coffee we''ll probably get our mouth burned. The third flaw is that the unit slurps loudly, my 1st unit didn''t know when to stop and the new one stops when the water is gone. There is no beep to let you know when the coffee is ready, but maybe one doesn''t really need it; once the loud slurping stops you know it''s ready.

They just don''t make them like they used to (:( But after so much money wasted on other higher end coffee makers that could not make a good cup of coffee, i''m going to keep this one and keep putting a wadded up paper towel between the filter unit and the pot to sop up the stream of steam and i''ll have to turn the pot off immediately before the coffee gets totally boiled. A pain really but what choice have i got; they stopped making the FlavorSelect years ago...

I purchased this after returning the Cusinart Thermal Carafe Maker(due to the fact it made lukewarm coffee). This Capresso machine was more expensive, however, not much better. The coffee is a few degrees hotter when poured into a cup, but not hot enough to stay hot after cream is added.. The machine itself is not well made, thin plastic and barely room for the carafe to sit on the plate. It is slightly awkard to pour the water into it, and see the number of cups(for smaller amounts of coffee. Quality of brew is no better than the Cuisinart. Very disappointing.
