West Bend 54159 Classic Stainless-Steel 12-Cup PercolatorI''ve had a lot of different brands and types of coffee makers, but this is a real gem! I love smelling the coffee waft throughout the house as it''s perking, and it''s easy to use and clean. It takes a little effort to get the right amount of coffee for brewing, but then again, my husband really likes his coffee strong. I love that the percolator brews incredibly HOT coffee! And the added bonus is that it''s easy to take along when we go traveling. No filters needed, cleans up in a snap, and nothing to break!

Best coffee maker I have ever owned. I consider myself a coffee lover!!!! I have photograph of my this coffeepot on my Facebook with the caption "Morning Miracle Maker". The aroma fills the house and the coffee stays fresher longer. You can use less coffee than you would in other coffee makers and still get fabulous taste.

Maybe I got a ''Lemon''. This West Bend 54159 makes great coffee and looks well built with the exception of the really short cord. It worked for only 5 weeks before becoming unusable. It will not stop perking. I am almost 60 years old and have been using a variety of coffee makers since I was 17 and began drinking coffee regularly. I use double filtered water, grind my own beans daily and clean out the pot every day. When I called the Focus Electrics Customer Service Department at (866) 290-1851 I was treated very rudely. The lady had a very argumentative attitude and accused me of not following directions and using poor water. When I told her I didn''t want to argue about it but just wanted to know whether the company would fix the problem she stated that "this time she could replace it but I needed to follow the cleaning directions, use better water and scour the heating well on a regular basis as well as de-calcifying it on a regular basis." She assured me that their product was very well built and she would not even consider whether the product was defective, but just assumed that I didn''t know what I was doing. Instead she chose to give me a lengthy lecture on how to make coffee and care for their product. West Bend has always had a good product and I have used their coffee pots for many years. However no matter how good the product I will not deal with a company that has customer service people with such ''High and Mighty'' attitudes as well as some snotty little teenage disposition.

I previously owned three Farberware percolator units, and immediately noted several West Bend product improvements:

(1) The pour. The west bend 12 pot unit was designed with two holes in the spout. These holes are visible when you''re filling the pot with fresh water. The top hole allows air to enter the unit while pouring. It provides the same affect as piercing a can of liquid twice when pouring.

(2) "cooking" Aroma . During percolation, the West Bend produces a steady cloud of steam much like a tea pot, which carries a rich scent of coffee. This creates a "cafe like" atmosphere in your kitchen. Simply awesome for the coffee lover.

(3) Coffee-level float indicator. There''s a plexi-glass tube embedded in handle. A red ball floats up and down to indicate cups of coffee as the level of coffee rises or falls. It make it very easy to consistently create your perfect mix of water and coffee each morning. Our family generally makes a partial pot each morning (8 cups).

(4) plexiglass top. This is a bonus which doesn''t really make better coffee, but provides a nice visual of your morning brews "cooking" progress. The water color slowly takes on the dark hue of beans, providing an interesting comparison of different beans. You can actually see the difference between light or dark roast beans. (Well, maybe only interesting to me).

(5) Quality. It''s only been one week so I obviously can''t say yet. Our last two Faberware units survived only 23 months. We used it everyday, so I suppose you could argue we got our money''s worth, but i was still irritated since our very first unit had lasted 6 years. This was the number one reason for trying another supplier. I''m very happy we did.
