It took me a while to find this product again, if you have any problems with your water leaving ring or streaks in your toilet, this product is the only thing that works, I have tried them all. Buy this product and try it, look in the water closet before you put it in there and see how much rust is in there, then look again two weeks later, it is unbelievable. If you have had rings and streaks for a while, it may take a cycle or two, but then if you use it regularly you will never have them again. It really helps up under the rim, where it is hard to scrub. I buy this stuff by the case now that I cant find it locally.
Put one each on two separate tanks, been watching-they are steadily getter whiter again as the rust stains slough off. The standing water looks clear in one. Toilet bowl also very clean-no rust. Will update. Great product. Each lasts about 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer.
Update: After many months & regular use, the tanks are now white with just a small rust line at the top where the water doesn''t really go. The water went from rusty dark brown-black to perfectly clear. Use ''em now as maintenance, to keep the bowls very clean. (Got better things to do than scrub away at rust with pumice!).

If you are looking for a painless fast acting product to get rid of rust, hard water deposits for your toilet, look no further! I have been using these drop-ins for a number of years now and I haven''t found anything that even comes close to the effectiveness of these mighty little miracles. Easy to use, just open the package and drop one into the back of the tank and let it do it''s job! I used to be able to get these at the larger chain grocery stores, but I guess in there infinite wisdom, they don''t stock these anymore and opted to push other products that don''t work as well as these do. I have used this product in a high-iron-content "hard water" area (i.e. Great Lakes area private wells) for many years now, both in my private homes and in several commercial/quasi-commercial applications (where it has saved us a HUGE amount in cleaning time/costs).WHEN it is used appropriately & correctly -THEN it is an EXCELLENT product and well worth the additional cost. In regard to the "dissatisfied" reviews here, it is important to keep in mind several things about this product:
1. It is (emphatically) NOT intended for "continuous" use like the "blue" tablets.
2. It is NOT necessarily ideal for use in "high sulfur content" water (if there is also high-iron content, it will work, but it MAY temporarily create a somewhat unpleasant "rotten egg" smell in those applications, sorry folks that''s not really the product''s fault, it''s a "feature" of your sulfur-laden water); and likewise it is also NOT necessarily ideal for "colored" porcelain toilets (with repeated use, it may tend to "bleach" the color from the inside of the tank and even the bowl below the water line).
3. But what it IS intended for -and where it EXCELS -is in "occasional" use to remove/remediate the "rusty" stains from hard (mainly) high-IRON-content water systems with WHITE porcelain tanks/bowls.
4. Exactly how long each tablet "lasts" and how frequently one should/needs to use them will be VERY much dependent upon just how extensive/thick the rust stains/caking are in a tank (I have seen some "doozies" where rust caking is MEASURABLE) and of course, how hard/high the iron content is in the water in your specific system.
5. As an INITIAL use -in a toilet that has accumulated YEARS or even a DECADE of "rust" buildup (especially in the back tank, hidden from view) -the first tablet may very well "disappear" within a day or two (but the absence of the tablet itself -or it''s transformation into a "gooey blob" does NOT mean it is entirely done doing its "work", nor that anything is wrong) -patience and (if the buildup is extreme/thick) a SECOND tablet placed in a week or so later may be needed to "complete" the removal.
6. Once the back tank is "clean" (ideally it should appear nearly "new" and "white" below the water line (some rust/stain may still be present in a "ring" above the water line in the back tank, that is normal and is NOT problematic) -THEN (and this is IMPORTANT, indeed critical) a re-application of another tablet need not, indeed SHOULD NOT be done until some time has passed, and some (slight) rust-colored stain reappears ... typically anywhere from one month to six months, and possibly even a year (again this is dependent upon many factors, how frequently the toilet is flushed, how "hard" and how much iron content is actually in the water system, what filtration and/or whether a salt-ion softener or iron-remover are part of the system, etc.)
7. In between use of this product, one can/should THEN make use of standard toilet bowl cleaners and/or toilet tank "blue" tablets or "blue liquid" dispensers to maintain a nice "clean" tank & bowl. Additionally, how quickly the rust returns will depend on how hard/ how high the iron content is in your water, and whether or not you have appropriate filters, softeners and/or iron removal systems -these tablets cannot do everything.
8. BUT CAUTION IS NEEDED, putting a bleach-based or blue tablet/liquid cleaner in TOO SOON after this product is used... WILL lead to some "weird" gooey "gunking" in the tank (that isn''t really problematic, as it doesn''t harm anything it is just less than ideal) -this is due to an "interaction" of the products, and it is an indication that the "Rust Guard" product is STILL PRESENT, even though the actual "tablet" may appear to be gone -the answer is to WAIT a week or couple of weeks AFTER the Rust Guard tablet is gone BEFORE using the "blue" products).
9. Again, I have used this (IMO wonderful) product for many years now; and (despite the claims of a few plumbers) have NEVER seen it "damage" any toilets or seals or anything else that is in well-maintained condition (what it CAN do is make pre-existing damage obvious/problematic, toilet components that may have been "broken" previously but were only being "held together" by the "crusty-rust-buildup" will suddenly "fail" when that rust-buildup is "tada!" suddenly removed -IMO the components would have "failed" soon anyway, and needed replacing.)
10. Finally, as far as cost -yeah these tabs are a bit more expensive than the "blue" kind -but they have a specific use that is distinct and different from those products. The "blue" products will NOT clean away buildup (they aren''t intended to -they are meant to be used to reduce/delay additional buildup and/or staining -and they function fairly well at that). By proper use of THIS product, I have saved countless hours and hundreds of dollars in cleaning time/costs (especially in public/quasi-public facilities with multiple toilets) -rather than having cleaning personnel need to use "harsh" toilet bowl cleaners multiple times per week in a vain attempt to control "bowl-staining", we have frequently been able to reduce the use of those cleaners to a once-per week or even once-every-two-weeks basis, and yet maintain nice "porcelain white" bowls.
