We are lucky because when we ordered the house we had a loop made for our soft water filter. That''s why I was able to easily hook this up without a problem, I also have decent amount of plumbing knowledge. If you do not have a water loop you will somehow have to find out where your water lines are in your house and open up the wall and make a loop, if that is to much for you either get a plumber to do it or just go for a under the sink filter if you only want it for drinking purposes.

I am very pleased with this filter since my hard water conditioner doesn''t take out any of the bad stuff. You can feel it when you are taking a shower, our clothes come out without a smell after washing them, and our dishes do not spot anymore. I still have our RO filter hooked up to our sink but that''s mainly for taste and to catch what this filter might not catch.

I do not recommend this if you are not able to hook this up and don''t want to pay a plumber to attach it. If you can hook it up get it, you wont be sorry.

It does make for good tasting water but it does require plumbing knowledge, my husband was able to install this without too much trouble since we have had whole house filters already plus one at the sink too. I don''t like the flow restriction this puts on the household water but I do like the cleaner water.

The one problem I have is trying to find the filter for this, Amazon doesn''t seem to carry it unless I just haven''t found it yet? I have to check at Lowes when I get the chance to see if they carry this filter and how much it is. I dropped a couple of stars because the page should link to filters or at least mention what the filter number is which I have not seen yet. The replacements are as important as the main unit because if I can''t find the replacements then the filter is no good to me.

Out of the box, this thing is heavy, well built and by looks alone seems to mean some serious business. I am neither a plumber nor mechanically inclined BUT suffer from extremely hard water. The filter on our fridge was going out every 6 months and this Filter system looked like a good idea. I was dismayed to realize our water pipes run UNDER and thru our concrete pad and as such can not be easily accessed for a conventional install. INSTEAD , we opted for a few fitting adapters and a handyman''s skill and we ended up with this filter in place and working UNDER our kitchen sink. Finally, the water is drinkable. I know this type of installation is not what it was designed for, but filtering water is what it does and what we are using it for.

I was told that since we are using this filter set-up ONLY for our sink feed that the 2 year time span may be significantly increased for this filter. Before installation our tap water smelled like the swimming pool at the local "Y" . As of now, it tastes virtually the same as our bottled Arrow Head.

Redoing your plumping to incorporate a water filter may seem a bit drastic, but when you have such poor water quality it seemed a natural thing to do. If it keeps working and is still going strong in 2 years time (or longer) it will be well worth the time, effort and expense and save US the trouble of lugging in pallet after pallet of bottled water. Also, with the installation under the sink, getting at the unit for filter replacement will be a simple matter at least in our case.

Bottom line: If you are unsure whether or not this will work for you, talk to a few people down at Lowes or Home Depot and do a bit of online research. Also, our install took less than an hour but cost almost $100 so bear that in mind.

First, depending upon what type of piping you have in your home, you have to buy connectors to install the filter. After that installation is fairly easy. The filter works as advertised and does a good job in filtering your water supply. While out shopping one day I checked to see what a replacement filter costs.... this is where this product moves into the "not so good" catagory. The replacement filter is basically a complete new system, You won''t have to buy any of the pipe connectors again, but the replacement filter consists of just about everything you get with the origianl purchase... and you pay for that... you really pay for that. If you don''t mind spending big money for filtered water, this is nice, but if you are more conservative there are cheaper units out there that work well and the replacement filters are only about 15% / 20% the cost of this replaceent filter.

I am not very handy with plumbing issues so I had to hire a plumber to hook this up because there is pipe cutting involved. Once installed I could tell a difference in the softness and taste of my water. It was definitely a good move since I live in the country and our water always had a little twang to it. Now we can drink the filtered water more often rather than buying the bottled water. I do love that it has a 12 month filter, hopefully it does last that long. It has only been a few months but everything is working good so far. I will update the review if I have any issues.
