American Comfort ACW200CH 8,000 BTU Portable Room Air Conditioner & Heater Save 11% Off

American Comfort ACW200CH 8,000 BTU Portable Room Air Conditioner & HeaterI understand this company merged with AMCOR and THIS model looks exactly like my AMCOR 12000 btu which lasted me 5 years cooling 3 large rooms 15x15, 17x20 & 12x8 all open to each other & with cathedral cielings. My house is old and has no insulation in the cielings so, whatever temp it is outside it''s always 15-25 degrees HOTTER inside.

The AMCOR which in essence is this new companymine was black with silveris the best portable air conditioner I have ever had and it is my 4th! It is quiet, it drains the water out the tube so you NEVER have to empty the tray no matter how humid or hot it gets & I like my house to be COLD like a refridgerator in the Summer cuz I get dizzy if it''s hot. It''s quieter than all the other brands I had and so far and has lasted twice as longI''m thinking it''s on the way out since the comp light just started blinking, soI came on here to order another one! Then I found out it merged with this co. It has a smaller footprint than all 3 other air conditioners I hadIt blends in very well & when not in use I like the flat top cuz I can put a plant on top of it. To get it to work in a casement window which is all I have in all 3 roomsI purchased a plywood board cut to fit inside the casing and made a hole for the openingthis works great & when summer is over I just take the board outta the window & store it behind the couch. I love the cool, fan or dehumidify functions features. The filters are GREAT they slide out and you just rinse them out, dry them & put em backeasy! I only need to do this 2x per year and my house is DUSTY with 4 dogs! Even when it''s 90 degrees outside this cools, the key is if you KNOW it''s supposed to be a hot day & you have a huge area to cool (mine is 4 times bigger than it''s supposed to cool PLUS with the super high cielings)

I turn it on BEFORE it starts to get too hot. If you buy one the right size for the room you don''t need to do thisBut I would need a 24,000 btu unit & my plugs or electric wont handle that load. I had bought a 14,000 btu different brand & it broke the 3rd time it was used because the plug couldn''t handle the wattageso, it kept tripping the units ground fault interuppter thingy-(I HATE those)Not being able to afford a whole house electric upgrade I finally figured out this way around itbuy a smaller BTU AC, & start it before it gets above 80.

of the 3 other brands I had,one died in 3 days= 14,000 btu. one lasted 2 years but leaked the WHOLE time that was a 10,000 btu, I had to sit it on glass blocks in a plastic cement trough to catch the water & manually empty the water that had leaked outevery day! NOT FUN! The 3rd one lasted only 1 1/2 yearsI live in the Northeast where ACs are only used for 3 months out of the yearso, I can''t IMAGINE how soon they woulda died if I lived in say, Nevada. I don''t understand how come the technology can''t get the price down on this type of air conditionermost cost twice as much. Don''t go with the non name brandsthose are the ones that broke soon on me.For the price & features this is the best portable ac all around, cools great, quiet & LASTED me at least 5 years.

I am saddened that I have to give such a good unit such a bad review, but it seems Amazon or UPS cannot get this to my house without breaking it. If you are considering buying this unit be warned:

I ordered this unit a couple weeks ago and it arrived at my house. It was in the factory box with only the factory packing foam. After opening the box I discovered the entire compressor for the unit had broken completely through the plastic housing at the bottom and was dragging the floor. I set up a painless exchange Amazon as I understand these things happen from time to time. After a couple days the new unit arrived, this time in a shipping box. Unfortunately that improvement went down the drain quickly as I opened the box to discover only a single ribbon of packing paper which accomplished nothing as far as protection. After opening the box to the actual unit, I found the compressor has broken the plastic housing in the exact same way as it did on the first unit. Fortunately this time one of the three bolts held. I was going to exchange this with Amazon but they could only offer a refund as they were out of stock. I applaud the ease in getting a refund, but I did actually need a AC unit to cool a small computer room I was building. Due to constraints in time, I was forced to partially repair the cracked housing enough to get the unit working. Functionally, it was fine, but I was quite annoyed that I was forced to spend $400 on a broken item.

Amazon needs to take more care in packing this item to prevent damage for future customers.
