The instructions were easy and were followed as written; making sure all lines/tubing were installed correctly; slowly turning water on; etc., etc. After about 5 seconds of turning on the water valve; WATER, WATER, WATER leaked everywhere under our kitchen sink cabinet!
The brochure lists a "Troubleshooting" section. This list only Troubleshoots for water leaking ''from the Tubing''; suggesting maybe tubing is not inserted far enough into the unit.
This was not the issue we were having. We were experiencing the Gushing Leaks from the TOP of "Filter #1" where it meets the Main Plastic "Head Unit".
After going back over the instructions to make sure we follow step by step including an hour of inspection of unit we discovered a Crack inside the plastic base where Filter #1 attaches to the Main Unit.
Giving the benefit of a doubt (being a well known maker; Whirlpool) we took the unit back and return for another one.
It''s such a let down to say; that unit was if not just as bad worse than the first one. This time we again experienced cascades of Water Everywhere! The Second unit; just as before had a hairline crack inside the Main plastic Head Unit where Filter #3 attached. Only this time the crack was in the inside Top of the Main plastic Head Unit itself.
Agitated; frustrated and thoroughly disappointed in this product we''ve returned it again but, Will Not purchase another. The manufucturer needs to evaluate and resolve many, many issues in the structure of the WHEMB40 Water Purifier System.
Our water purification/filtration system will be purchaced from Another Manufucturer.
Sorry Whirlpool.

Evidently the reviewer that gave this 5 stars did not fully read the 1 star review, which stated their filter had cracks in the housing. This is not an installation problem but a manufacturing one. For the record mine also came with hairline cracks right out of the box. They were practically invisible until the unit became pressurized. Then it was water everywhere! Obviously the weight of the filters was more than the flimsy plastic head unit could survive in shipping. If you have a good one be thankful and don''t twist those filters too hard when you replace them. This product needs a beefier head unit.Read Best Reviews of Whirlpool WHEMB40 Undersink Water Filtration System Here
We live in the country with water that tastes great and has always passed every annual battery of tests. Nonetheless, after a kidney transplant, I was advised not to drink untreated well water. I consulted with water professionals all of whom wanted to install softeners, reverse osmosis, etc. at high cost. I also trudged gallons of water from the grocery for a while. This filter system is a bargain (lets hope Whirlpool''s testing is valid and reliable.)We''ve had the filter for a couple years. Here are key points:
1. The faucet: It looks fine, works fine, but it''s cheap plastic. Someday I may replace it.
2. Installation: It took a couple hours primarily because I chose to install it in a difficult place, not because it''s difficult to install.
3. Leaking filter: I''ve changed the filters 2-3 times now. The last time, when I turned the water back on, one of the filters was leaking badly at the top. I turned off the water, removed the filter, then reinstalled the filter making sure to do it properly. Voila -no leak.
4. A savings idea: We only use this for my drinking water, coffee, etc. I hooked-up our refrigerator water line to the filtered output line, negating the need to buy fridge filters every six months. That''s a BIG savings. It turns out that all I had to do is remove the refrigerator filter, and the refrigerator automatically operates without it. Your refrigerator may or may not do the same check the instructions.
5. A WARNING: Don''t trust the little light on the faucet that tells you when to buy new filters. Mine turns on at the end of four months, not the six months recommended in the instructions.

This filter was so easy to set up, quite literally 3 snaps and the filter is hooked up. The long part was cutting and sweating the copper, shut offs, and male adapters. After all the nessecary plumbing was hooked up you connect three shark bite type pex connectors, and your ready to use! Never had one leak from the unit and it flows like a champ! No resiviour to deal with like a reverse osmosis system, just clean purified water when you need it.
