I did not start using these strips until after my previous batch was used up. Big mistake, I should have tested a new one and an old one on the same water. The first time I used the strips the pH read 6. This was way too low since the old strip read OK the previous week. I tried a strip on tap water and it still read 6. Later the strips started reading low chlorine. I shocked the pool and still the strip read no chlorine. Bottom line: I checked the expiration date and it was 11/10. I bought these from Amazon in June 2011. Also the strips did not have 8490 anywhere on the label. There was a marking of 8270 that had been stamped on the label along with the expiration date.
THESE STRIPS WORK BETTER THAN THE ONES THAT THE POOL COMPANY GAVE US WHEN WE BOUGHT OUR SPA AT HALF THE COST!
