I originally purchased a big berkey with black carbon filters which ultimately broke apart at the base (cheap poxy). After looking i cautiously bought this combo about 4 months ago. I have not been disappointed. It filters wonderfully and is of better quality than the black carbon filters (in my experience).
The ceramic filters are superior to other filters in that they will last for many years.unlike the OTHERS that will only last months.
We are filtering well water as well as lake water.

I has originally purchased the black Berkey filters (made in U.S. I believe) After a few weeks of service the glue on the base of the black fliters let go and the filter media separated from the base. I complained to the Berkey seller here but no response. (Even though I had only used for a few weeks, I had bought them over 6 months ago so they were out of warranty however this is obviously a manufacturing defect. I have read that this has been a common problem with the black Berkey filters. They should have stood behind the product.) So I have purchased the white British Berkey filters. They seem better quality and so far so good. (Of course the fluoride filters between the two filters are not compatible so I had to buy two more fluoride filters.)I believe the British filters to be good quality I believe the silver technology has been proven around the world although I haven''t had the water tested.
